Data-driven approaches offer novel opportunities for improving the performance of turbulent flow simulations, which are critical to wide-ranging applications from wind farms and aerodynamic designs to weather and climate forecasting. While conventional continuum Navier-Stokes solvers have been the subject of a significant amount of work in this domain, there has hitherto been very limited effort in the same direction for the more scalable and highly performant lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), even though it has been successfully applied to a variety of turbulent flow simulations using large-eddy simulation (LES) techniques. In this work, we establish a data-driven framework for the LES-based lattice Boltzmann simulation of near-wall turbulent flow fields. We do this by training neural networks using improved delayed detached eddy simulation data. Crucially, this is done in combination with physics-based information that substantially constrains the data-driven predictions. Using data from turbulent channel flow at a friction Reynolds number at $5200$, our simulations accurately predict the behaviour of the wall model at arbitrary friction Reynolds numbers up to $1.0 \times 10^6$. In contradistinction with other models that use direct numerical simulation datasets, our physics-informed model requires data from very limited regions within the wall-bounded plane, reducing by three orders of magnitude the quantity of data needed for training. We also demonstrate that our model can handle data configurations when the near-wall grid is sparse. Our physics-informed neural network approach opens up the possibility of employing LBM in combination with highly specific and therefore much more limited quantities of macroscopic data, substantially facilitating the investigation of a wide-range of turbulent flow applications at very large scale.

Open-source large language models (LLMs) have gained significant strength across diverse fields. Nevertheless, the majority of studies primarily concentrate on English, with only limited exploration into the realm of multilingual abilities. In this work, we therefore construct an open-source multilingual supervised fine-tuning dataset. Different from previous works that simply translate English instructions, we consider both the language-specific and language-agnostic abilities of LLMs. Firstly, we introduce a knowledge-grounded data augmentation approach to elicit more language-specific knowledge of LLMs, improving their ability to serve users from different countries. Moreover, we find modern LLMs possess strong cross-lingual transfer capabilities, thus repeatedly learning identical content in various languages is not necessary. Consequently, we can substantially prune the language-agnostic supervised fine-tuning (SFT) data without any performance degradation, making multilingual SFT more efficient. The resulting UltraLink dataset comprises approximately 1 million samples across five languages (i.e., En, Zh, Ru, Fr, Es), and the proposed data construction method can be easily extended to other languages. Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection aims to detect testing samples far away from the in-distribution (ID) training data, which is crucial for the safe deployment of machine learning models in the real world. Distance-based OOD detection methods have emerged with enhanced deep representation learning. They identify unseen OOD samples by measuring their distances from ID class centroids or prototypes. However, existing approaches learn the representation relying on oversimplified data assumptions, e.g, modeling ID data of each class with one centroid class prototype or using loss functions not designed for OOD detection, which overlook the natural diversities within the data. Naively enforcing data samples of each class to be compact around only one prototype leads to inadequate modeling of realistic data and limited performance. To tackle these issues, we propose PrototypicAl Learning with a Mixture of prototypes (PALM) which models each class with multiple prototypes to capture the sample diversities, and learns more faithful and compact samples embeddings to enhance OOD detection. Our method automatically identifies and dynamically updates prototypes, assigning each sample to a subset of prototypes via reciprocal neighbor soft assignment weights. PALM optimizes a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) loss to encourage the sample embeddings to be compact around the associated prototypes, as well as a contrastive loss on all prototypes to enhance intra-class compactness and inter-class discrimination at the prototype level. Moreover, the automatic estimation of prototypes enables our approach to be extended to the challenging OOD detection task with unlabelled ID data. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of PALM, achieving state-of-the-art average AUROC performance of 93.82 on the challenging CIFAR-100 benchmark. Touchscreen-based electronic devices such as smart phones and smart tablets are widely used in our daily life. While the security of electronic devices have been heavily investigated recently, the resilience of touchscreens against various attacks has yet to be thoroughly investigated. In this paper, for the first time, we show that touchscreen-based electronic devices are vulnerable to intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) attacks in a systematic way and how to conduct this attack in a practical way. Our contribution lies in not just demonstrating the attack, but also analyzing and quantifying the underlying mechanism allowing the novel IEMI attack on touchscreens in detail. We show how to calculate both the minimum amount of electric field and signal frequency required to induce touchscreen ghost touches. We further analyze our IEMI attack on real touchscreens with different magnitudes, frequencies, duration, and multitouch patterns. The mechanism of controlling the touchscreen-enabled electronic devices with IEMI signals is also elaborated. We design and evaluate an out-of-sight touchscreen locator and touch injection feedback mechanism to assist a practical IEMI attack. Our attack works directly on the touchscreen circuit regardless of the touchscreen scanning mechanism or operating system. Our attack can inject short-tap, long-press, and omni-directional gestures on touchscreens from a distance larger than the average thickness of common tabletops. Compared with the state-of-the-art touchscreen attack, ours can accurately inject different types of touch events without the need for sensing signal synchronization, which makes our attack more robust and practical. Most existing Legal Judgment Prediction (LJP) models focus on discovering the legal triggers in the criminal fact description. However, in real-world scenarios, a professional judge not only needs to assimilate the law case experience that thrives on past sentenced legal judgments but also depends on the professional legal grounded reasoning that learned from professional legal knowledge. In this paper, we propose a LegalDuet model, which pretrains language models to learn a tailored embedding space for making legal judgments. It proposes a dual-view legal clue reasoning mechanism, which derives from two reasoning chains of judges: 1) Law Case Reasoning, which makes legal judgments according to the judgment experiences learned from analogy/confusing legal cases; 2) Legal Ground Reasoning, which lies in matching the legal clues between criminal cases and legal decisions. Our experiments show that LegalDuet achieves state-of-the-art performance on the CAIL2018 dataset and outperforms baselines with about 4% improvements on average. Our dual-view reasoning based pretraining can capture critical legal clues to learn a tailored embedding space to distinguish criminal cases. It reduces LegalDuet's uncertainty during prediction and brings pretraining advances to the confusing/low frequent charges. Side-channel analysis has been proven effective at detecting hardware Trojans in integrated circuits (ICs). However, most detection techniques rely on large external probes and antennas for data collection and require a long measurement time to detect Trojans. Such limitations make these techniques impractical for run-time deployment and ineffective in detecting small Trojans with subtle side-channel signatures. To overcome these challenges, we propose a Programmable Sensor Array (PSA) for run-time hardware Trojan detection, localization, and identification. PSA is a tampering-resilient integrated on-chip magnetic field sensor array that can be re-programmed to change the sensors' shape, size, and location. Using PSA, EM side-channel measurement results collected from sensors at different locations on an IC can be analyzed to localize and identify the Trojan. The PSA has better performance than conventional external magnetic probes and state-of-the-art on-chip single-coil magnetic field sensors. We fabricated an AES-128 test chip with four AES Hardware Trojans. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are widely applied across various domains, yet they perform poorly in deep layers. Existing research typically attributes this problem to node over-smoothing, where node representations become indistinguishable after multiple rounds of propagation. In this paper, we delve into the neighborhood propagation mechanism of GNNs and discover that the real root cause of GNNs' performance degradation in deep layers lies in ineffective neighborhood feature propagation. This propagation leads to an exponential growth of a node's current representation at every propagation step, making it extremely challenging to capture valuable dependencies between long-distance nodes. To address this issue, we introduce Graph Elimination Networks (GENs), which employ a specific algorithm to eliminate redundancies during neighborhood propagation. We demonstrate that GENs can enhance nodes' perception of distant neighborhoods and extend the depth of network propagation. This article presents a comprehensive study on the emerging near-space communications (NS-COM) within the context of space-air-ground-sea integrated network (SAGSIN). Specifically, we firstly explore the recent technical developments of NS-COM, followed by the discussions about motivations behind integrating NS-COM into SAGSIN. To further demonstrate the necessity of NS-COM, a comparative analysis between the NS-COM network and other counterparts in SAGSIN is conducted, covering aspects of deployment, coverage, channel characteristics and unique problems of NS-COM network. Afterwards, the technical aspects of NS-COM, including channel modeling, random access, channel estimation, array-based beam management and joint network optimization, are examined in detail. Furthermore, we explore the potential applications of NS-COM, such as structural expansion in SAGSIN communication, civil aviation communication, remote and urgent communication, weather monitoring and carbon neutrality. Finally, some promising research avenues are identified, including stratospheric satellite (StratoSat) -to-ground direct links for mobile terminals, reconfigurable multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and holographic MIMO, federated learning in NS-COM networks, maritime communication, electromagnetic spectrum sensing and adversarial game, integrated sensing and communications, StratoSat-based radar detection and imaging, NS-COM assisted enhanced global navigation system, NS-COM assisted intelligent unmanned system and free space optical (FSO) communication. ROS (Robot Operating System) packages have become increasingly popular as a type of software artifact that can be effectively reused in robotic software development. Indeed, finding suitable ROS packages that closely match the software's functional requirements from the vast number of available packages is a nontrivial task using current search methods. The traditional search methods for ROS packages often involve inputting keywords related to robotic tasks into general-purpose search engines or code hosting platforms to obtain approximate results of all potentially suitable ROS packages. However, the accuracy of these search methods remains relatively low because the task-related keywords may not precisely match the functionalities offered by the ROS packages. To improve the search accuracy of ROS packages, this paper presents a novel semantic-based search approach that relies on the semantic-level ROS Package Knowledge Graph (RPKG) to automatically retrieve the most suitable ROS packages. Firstly, to construct the RPKG, we employ multi-dimensional feature extraction techniques to extract semantic concepts from the dataset of ROS package text descriptions. The semantic features extracted from this process result in a substantial number of entities and relationships. Subsequently, we create a robot domain-specific small corpus and further fine-tune a pre-trained language model, BERT-ROS, to generate embeddings that effectively represent the semantics of the extracted features. These embeddings play a crucial role in facilitating semantic-level understanding and comparisons during the ROS package search process within the RPKG. Secondly, we introduce a novel semantic matching-based search algorithm that incorporates the weighted similarities of multiple features from user search queries, which searches out more accurate ROS packages than the traditional keyword search method., Comment: 24 pages. Segmentation quality assessment (SQA) plays a critical role in the deployment of a medical image based AI system. Users need to be informed/alerted whenever an AI system generates unreliable/incorrect predictions. With the introduction of the Segment Anything Model (SAM), a general foundation segmentation model, new research opportunities emerged in how one can utilize SAM for medical image segmentation. In this paper, we propose a novel SQA method, called SQA-SAM, which exploits SAM to enhance the accuracy of quality assessment for medical image segmentation. When a medical image segmentation model (MedSeg) produces predictions for a test image, we generate visual prompts based on the predictions, and SAM is utilized to generate segmentation maps corresponding to the visual prompts. How well MedSeg's segmentation aligns with SAM's segmentation indicates how well MedSeg's segmentation aligns with the general perception of objectness and image region partition. We develop a score measure for such alignment. In experiments, we find that the generated scores exhibit moderate to strong positive correlation (in Pearson correlation and Spearman correlation) with Dice coefficient scores reflecting the true segmentation quality., Comment: Work in progress

The deployment of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) within Machine Learning as a Service (MLaaS) has opened up new attack surfaces and an escalation in security concerns regarding model-centric attacks. These attacks can directly manipulate the GNN model parameters during serving, causing incorrect predictions and posing substantial threats to essential GNN applications. Traditional integrity verification methods falter in this context due to the limitations imposed by MLaaS and the distinct characteristics of GNN models. In this research, we introduce a groundbreaking approach to protect GNN models in MLaaS from model-centric attacks. Our approach includes a comprehensive verification schema for GNN's integrity, taking into account both transductive and inductive GNNs, and accommodating varying pre-deployment knowledge of the models. We propose a query-based verification technique, fortified with innovative node fingerprint generation algorithms. To deal with advanced attackers who know our mechanisms in advance, we introduce randomized fingerprint nodes within our design. The experimental evaluation demonstrates that our method can detect five representative adversarial model-centric attacks, displaying 2 to 4 times greater efficiency compared to baselines.

The emergence of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) in graph data analysis and their deployment on Machine Learning as a Service platforms have raised critical concerns about data misuse during model training. This situation is further exacerbated due to the lack of transparency in local training processes, potentially leading to the unauthorized accumulation of large volumes of graph data, thereby infringing on the intellectual property rights of data owners. Existing methodologies often address either data misuse detection or mitigation, and are primarily designed for local GNN models rather than cloud-based MLaaS platforms. These limitations call for an effective and comprehensive solution that detects and mitigates data misuse without requiring exact training data while respecting the proprietary nature of such data. This paper introduces a pioneering approach called GraphGuard, to tackle these challenges. We propose a training-data-free method that not only detects graph data misuse but also mitigates its impact via targeted unlearning, all without relying on the original training data. Our innovative misuse detection technique employs membership inference with radioactive data, enhancing the distinguishability between member and non-member data distributions. For mitigation, we utilize synthetic graphs that emulate the characteristics previously learned by the target model, enabling effective unlearning even in the absence of exact graph data. We conduct comprehensive experiments utilizing four real-world graph datasets to demonstrate the efficacy of GraphGuard in both detection and unlearning. We show that GraphGuard attains a near-perfect detection rate of approximately 100% across these datasets with various GNN models. In addition, it performs unlearning by eliminating the impact of the unlearned graph with a marginal decrease in accuracy (less than 5%).

Visible-infrared person re-identification (VI-ReID) aims to search the same pedestrian of interest across visible and infrared modalities. Existing models mainly focus on compensating for modality-specific information to reduce modality variation. However, these methods often lead to a higher computational overhead and may introduce interfering information when generating the corresponding images or features. To address this issue, it is critical to leverage pedestrian-attentive features and learn modality-complete and -consistent representation. In this paper, a novel Transferring Modality-Aware Pedestrian Attentive Learning (TMPA) model is proposed, focusing on the pedestrian regions to efficiently compensate for missing modality-specific features. Specifically, we propose a region-based data augmentation module PedMix to enhance pedestrian region coherence by mixing the corresponding regions from different modalities. A lightweight hybrid compensation module, i.e., the Modality Feature Transfer (MFT), is devised to integrate cross attention and convolution networks to fully explore the discriminative modality-complete features with minimal computational overhead. Extensive experiments conducted on the benchmark SYSU-MM01 and RegDB datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed TMPA model.

As the complexity of logic designs increase, new avenues for testing digital hardware becomes necessary. Fuzz Testing (fuzzing) has recently received attention as a potential candidate for input vector generation on hardware designs. Using this technique, a fuzzer is used to generate an input to a logic design. Using a simulation engine, the logic design is given the generated stimulus and some metric of feedback is given to the fuzzer to aid in the input mutation. However, much like software fuzzing, hardware fuzzing uses code coverage as a metric to find new possible fuzzing paths. Unfortunately, as we show in this work, this coverage metric falls short of generic on some hardware designs where designers have taken a more direct approach at expressing a particular microarchitecture, or implementation, of the desired hardware. With this work, we introduce a new coverage metric which employs not code coverage, but state coverage internal to a design. By observing changes in signals within the logic circuit under testing, we are able to explore the state space of the design and provide feedback to a fuzzer engine for input generation. Our approach, Value-Guided Fuzzing (VGF), provides a generic metric of coverage which can be applied to any design regardless of its implementation. In this paper, we introduce our state-based VGF metric as well as a sample implementation which can be used with any VPI, DPI, VHPI, or FLI compliant simulator, making it completely HDL agnostic. Learning recipe and food image representation in common embedding space is non-trivial but crucial for cross-modal recipe retrieval. In this paper, we propose a new perspective for this problem by utilizing foundation models for data augmentation. Leveraging on the remarkable capabilities of foundation models (i.e., Llama2 and SAM), we propose to augment recipe and food image by extracting alignable information related to the counterpart. Specifically, Llama2 is employed to generate a textual description from the recipe, aiming to capture the visual cues of a food image, and SAM is used to produce image segments that correspond to key ingredients in the recipe. To make full use of the augmented data, we introduce Data Augmented Retrieval framework (DAR) to enhance recipe and image representation learning for cross-modal retrieval. We first inject adapter layers to pre-trained CLIP model to reduce computation cost rather than fully fine-tuning all the parameters. In addition, multi-level circle loss is proposed to align the original and augmented data pairs, which assigns different penalties for positive and negative pairs. Given an object of interest, visual navigation aims to reach the object's location based on a sequence of partial observations. To this end, an agent needs to 1) learn a piece of certain knowledge about the relations of object categories in the world during training and 2) look for the target object based on the pre-learned object category relations and its moving trajectory in the current unseen environment. In this paper, we propose a Category Relation Graph (CRG) to learn the knowledge of object category layout relations and a Temporal-Spatial-Region (TSR) attention architecture to perceive the long-term spatial-temporal dependencies of objects helping the navigation. We learn prior knowledge of object layout, establishing a category relationship graph to deduce the positions of specific objects. Subsequently, we introduced TSR to capture the relationships of objects in temporal, spatial, and regions within the observation trajectories. Specifically, we propose a Temporal attention module (T) to model the temporal structure of the observation sequence, which implicitly encodes the historical moving or trajectory information. Then, a Spatial attention module (S) is used to uncover the spatial context of the current observation objects based on the category relation graph and past observations. Last, a Region attention module (R) shifts the attention to the target-relevant region. Based on the visual representation extracted by our method, the agent can better perceive the environment and easily learn superior navigation policy. Experiments on AI2-THOR demonstrate our CRG-TSR method significantly outperforms existing methods regarding both effectiveness and efficiency. Visual reinforcement learning has proven effective in solving control tasks with high-dimensional observations. However, extracting reliable and generalizable representations from vision-based observations remains a central challenge. Inspired by the human thought process, when the representation extracted from the observation can predict the future and trace history, the representation is reliable and accurate in comprehending the environment. Based on this concept, we introduce a Bidirectional Transition (BiT) model, which leverages the ability to bidirectionally predict environmental transitions both forward and backward to extract reliable representations. Our model demonstrates competitive generalization performance and sample efficiency on two settings of the DeepMind Control suite. Additionally, we utilize robotic manipulation and CARLA simulators to demonstrate the wide applicability of our method.
