104. Effect of Quercetin on Egg Quality and Components in Laying Hens of Different Weeks

Abstract

This trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of quercetin on egg quality and components in laying hens of different weeks. A total of 240 healthy Hessian laying hens at 29, 39-week-old with similar body weight and laying rate were randomly divided into four groups with six replicates of 10 each replicate, respectively. The treatments were fed with basal diet supplemented with 0, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 g · kg −1 quercetin for 8 weeks. The results showed that compared with the control, broken or soft shell rate significantly decreased at 0.2 and 0.4 g · kg −1 quercetin and eggshell thickness significantly increased at 0.4 g · kg −1 quercetin ( P −1 quercetin ( P P −1 quercetin ( P −1 quercetin ( P −1 in the basal diet.

Abstract

[Objectives] To determine the potential for using remote intelligent monitoring systems to monitor pests in apple orchards. [Methods] A double image acquisition system was used to collect clear images of insects which were then transmitted for identification and recording. [Results] After setting appropriate parameters, the remote intelligent monitoring system could automatically trap, kill, photograph, transmit images and collect insects. Manual identification and counting were more accurate and more closely matched actual insect occurrence. [Conclusion] Remote intelligent monitoring systems can monitor a variety of major pests in apple orchards in real time, thereby significantly reducing human and material costs of monitoring. After training, feature extraction, structure building and model evaluation of insect images, computer software can automatically recognize and count insects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Based on the analysis of notch-root stresses and strains in bodies subjected to multiaxial loading, a quantitative relationship between Neuber rule and the equivalent strain energy density method is found. In the case of elastic range, both Neuber rule and the equivalent strain energy density method get the same estimation of the local stresses and strains. Whereas in the case of elastic-plastic range, Neuber rule generally overestimates the notch-root stresses and strains and the equivalent strain energy density method tends to underestimate the notch-root stresses and strains. A modified method is presented considering the material constants of elastic-plastic Poisson's ratio, elastic modulus, shear elastic modulus, and yield stress. The essence of the modified model is to add a modified coefficient to Neuber rule, which makes the calculated results tend to be more precise and reveals its energy meaning. This approach considers the elastic-plastic properties of the material itself and avoids the blindness of selecting coefficient values. Finally the calculation results using the modified model are validated with the experimental data.

124. Low Cycle Fatigue Fracture Properties of 06Cr19Ni10 Steel under Controlled Stress

Abstract

The low cycle fatigue fracture properties are studied based on notch and smooth specimens fatigue tests in this work. The relationship between strain and life and that between stress and energy are observated under different load conditions. The σ-N curve in double logarithmic coordinates for different notch depth and angle is found out by testing specimens. The results show that the greater stress and the deeper incision, the shorter the life of the specimen, but there is no effect on specimen life when incision angle located at 30°-60°. Observations of fracture surfaces show that fatigue cracks source of point and fracture morphology are closely related to stress amplitude. Abstract

In this study, a series of novel ferulic and caffeic acid dimers was designed and synthesised, and their multifunctional properties against Alzheimer's disease (AD) were evaluated. Results showed that our multifunctional strategy was great supported by enhancing the inhibition of Aβ1–42 self-induced aggregation. Moreover, 7b also had potent protective effects against glutamate-induced cell death without significant cell toxicity in mouse hippocampal neuronal HT22 cells and 10c effectively scavenged diphenylpicrylhydrazyl free radicals. Collectively, these data strongly encourage further optimisation of 7b as a new hit to develop multifunctional agents for the treatment of AD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

142. Improvement in thermal stability of soybean oil by blending with camellia oil during deep fat frying.

Abstract

The degradation occurring in soybean oil, camellia oil, and binary blends at five ratios during deep frying of french fries at 180°C for five consecutive days was monitored. The decrease in polyunsaturated and increase in saturated fatty acids during the frying operation was more prominent in soybean oil as compared to the camellia oil and blended oils. Among the frying periods, camellia oil, blend (60:40) and blend (50:50) after frying did not change significantly in the overall fatty acid composition. In addition, results of physicochemical properties of the frying media, namely the free fatty acid, peroxide value, p-anisidine value, total polar components, and color, indicate that camellia oil has the least degradation, while soybean oil has the highest. What is more, these results reveal that increase in oxidative stability is correlated with the increase in camellia oil levels, due to the high content of phenolic compounds and monounsaturated fatty acid. Therefore, the present study clearly indicated that partial replacement of soybean oil with camellia oil can significantly improve frying stability for deep frying of french fries. Practical applications: The results are useful for home cooking, restaurants, or fast foods sellers providing them with newly developed frying stability oils, camellia oil, and camellia/soybean blended oils for deep frying of french fries. Furthermore, discarding time was provided for soybean oil, camellia oil, and their blends when used as media for french fries frying, this suggestion allows preparing safe fried foods for consumers. Abstract

The lateral resolution (LR) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are the essential factors in the applications of scanning probe microscopy in quantitative measurement of surface charge distribution, potential profile, and dielectric properties. We use a model system to comprise Au nanoparticles (NPs) embedded in a polystyrene (PS) matrix to study the effects of various experimental parameters, such as modulation bias voltage, tip-sample distance, and actual tip shape, on the electrostatic interactions between the tips and samples. The results show that LR and SNR decrease when the tip-sample distance increases, while SNR increases with tip modulation voltage. LR is less sensitive to tip modulation voltage, but shows complex dependence on the sample geometric structure. In combination with a numerical simulation based on the integral capacitance model, the electrostatic force interaction between tip and sample was quantitatively analyzed.
