107. Regional Investment Risk Assessment from the Perspective of Great Power Competition: A Case Study of Southeast Asia

Abstract

Investment is an important way for regions to optimize their economic structure and participate in globalization. With the evolution of the world's political and economic environment, investment has become an important link to national competition. Including a big power game element is logical to identify investment risks. Simultaneously, in the context of the increasing scale of China's outbound investment, research on investment risk has focused more on identifying the host country's investment environment. In contrast, the impact of significant country-specific competition factors on national investment has yet to be explored. Given this background, this paper adds the concept of geopotential with space power as a measurement factor to the traditional investment environment risk evaluation and establishes a regionally integrated investment risk identification model from the perspective of great power competition. Taking Southeast Asia as an example, we measure the basic investment environment risks of Southeast Asian countries and changes in the geopolitical positions of China and the United States in Southeast Asia. Based on the above, we identify changes in China's investment risks in Southeast Asia in the competition between China and the United States. The results show the following: 1) The basic investment environment risks of Southeast Asian countries show apparent spatial heterogeneity, and the spatial structure is high in the north and low in the south, with Singapore and Malaysia as stable low-risk areas and Myanmar and Laos as stable high-risk areas. 2) The geopolitical positions of China and the United States from 2010 to 2019 show significant regional heterogeneity. The United States has geopolitical advantages in most regions; however, the gap between China and the United States has gradually narrowed. China's geopolitical positions in Myanmar and Laos are ahead of those in the United States. Moreover, the geopolitical positions of China and the United States in Vietnam and Cambodia show intertwined changes. The geopolitical positions of China and the United States in Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Thailand show a parallel evolution. 3) Significant interregional differences in integrated risks based on geographical potential and basic investment environment risks were observed. The spatial distributions of high- and low-integrated risk areas are stable, with Thailand and the Philippines as stable high-risk areas, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam as stable low-risk areas, and medium-integrated risk areas showing expansion to the south of the region. 4) According to kernel density estimation, the spatial gap between China's integrated investment risks in Southeast Asia is narrowing, and a non-polarized development of evolutionary characteristics is observed.

108. Compliance with retainer wear using audiovisual integration and reminder: a randomized clinical trial

Abstract

Abstract Active audiovisual representation of instructions ensures vibrant knowledge acquisition and improves acquaintance needed for self-care with retainer wear. The aim of this trial is to assess the impact of audiovisual instructions with additional weekly electronic reminder messages on improving adherence to instructed wear time of Hawley retainer, periodontal outcomes, and participants’ experiences. Fifty-two participants (mean age 26.1 y) planned for removable retention, were randomly assigned to two parallel groups to receive either (1) audiovisual instructions with an additional weekly reminder, or (2) verbal instructions alone. Each participant received a Hawley retainer equipped with a TheraMon microsensor and was instructed to wear it for 22 h daily. Participants were monitored for adherence to the wear time after 3 (T1) and 6 months (T2), and had their periodontal health and experiences assessed at T2. Overall, the mean objectively measured daily wear time at T1 was 14.9 (± 4.9 h), and 14.3 (± 5.4 h) at T2. After 3 months, no significant differences were found between the groups (p = 0.065), however, a significant difference favoring better compliance with wear instructions was observed in the audiovisual group after 6 months (p = 0.033). A non-significant difference was observed between both groups regarding the gingival (p = 0.165) and plaque index scores (p = 0.173). Participants’ experiences were similar in both groups, except for satisfaction with the way of delivering instructions, being favorably reported in the audiovisual group. Audiovisual instructions with weekly reminders seem to have a significant effect on patient compliance in the longer term. Trial registration: TCTR20230220002.

Abstract

Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH), a key enzyme in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, plays an important role in cellular energy metabolism. When the IDH gene is mutated, the enzyme activity is altered, resulting in an accumulation of a large amount of the tumor metabolite 2-hydroxyglutaric acid (2-HG), causing severe epigenetic deregulation and dysregulation of gene expression, and promoting tumorigenesis. Recent studies have shown that IDH1 and IDH2 mutations are closely related to the occurrence and development of a variety of tumors such as glioma, acute myeloid leukemia(AML) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(iCCA) as well as their clinical treatment. It is of great significance to use IDH gene mutations as molecular indicators for detecting glioma, AML and iCCA tumorigenesis, and developing targeted drugs. This review is focused on the mechanism of IDH mutation, the relationship between mutant IDH and the development of multiple tumors, and the progress of treatment of IDH mutation in basic research and drug clinical trials.

Abstract

A simple and sensitive fluorescent probe for the determination of phalic acid ester (PAEs) in fermented foods was developed based on the fact that the oxidase-like activity of Cu,Fe-N-C nanozyme can be regulated by PAEs. After PAEs were adsorbed on the surface of Cu,Fe-N-C, the catalytic oxidation of the substrate o-phenylenediamine (OPD) was accelerated, thus increasing the fluorescence intensity of the generated 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP). The calibration curve for PAEs showed a good linear relationship in the concentration range of 1.25–50 μg/L. The detection limit of the proposed method was 0.76 μg/L. The recoveries of spiked samples ranged from 88.0% to 104.6%, which meet the detection requirements of the national standard GB 5009.271-2016. This method is simple, stable and rapid, and its detection limit is lower than the national limit for PAEs content in foods.

150. Bayesian Operational Modal Analysis of Structures with Tuned Mass Damper

Abstract

Tuned mass dampers (TMDs) are general used as a common strategy for reducing structural vibration, e.g., to improve structural safety and human comfort under various dynamic loadings. It can operate in a passive manner without active control algorithm or external power. For a given mass of the TMD (which may be determined by practical constraints), the design of TMD involves the specification of optimal natural frequency and damping ratio, which are determined according to the properties (i.e., mass, natural frequency and damping ratio) of the ‘primary’ structure. The latter is better informed by the in-situ modal properties, which can differ significantly from the predictions based on design blueprints. After installation, TMD is susceptible to detuning (i.e., its parameters are no longer optimal as designed) due to deterioration or changes of the system, resulting in degradation in performance. It is therefore desirable to assess the in-situ properties of the TMD and the primary structure under operational state. This thesis aims at developing a Bayesian approach for identifying the modal parameters of a structure equipped with TMD, using only ambient vibration data measured on the primary structure, i.e., ‘operational modal analysis’ (OMA). The work covers formulation, computational algorithms, verification and application. A Bayesian OMA approach provides a rigorous means for making inference about modal properties and quantifying the identification uncertainty. The identification results include the posterior (i.e., given data) most probable value and covariance matrix, informing the ‘best estimate’ and identification uncertainty, respectively. The likelihood function and theoretical power spectral density matrix of ambient data are mathematically formulated, accounting for non-classically damped modal dynamics that is not treated in existing Bayesian formulations. An Expectation-Maximisation algorithm is developed for efficient computation of the most probable value of modal parameters. Analytical expressions are derived so that the posterior covariance matrix can be determined accurately and efficiently. The proposed algorithms are verified based on synthetic data and then applied to field data of structures with closed-mode response attenuated by TMD.
