Abstract

Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) remains a refractory rejection after donor-specific antibody (DSA)-positive or blood-type incompatible liver transplantation (LT), even in the era of pre-transplant rituximab desensitization. This is due to the lack of not only effective post-transplant treatments but also robust animal models to develop/validate new interventions. Orthotopic LT from male Dark Agouti (DA) to male Lewis (LEW) rats was used to develop a rat LT-AMR model. LEW were pre-sensitized by a preceding skin transplantation from DA 4–6 weeks before LT (Group-PS), while sham procedure was performed in non-sensitized controls (Group-NS). Tacrolimus was daily administered until post-transplant day (PTD)-7 or sacrifice to suppress cellular rejections. Using this model, we validated the efficacy of anti-C5 antibody (Anti-C5) for LT-AMR. Group-PS+Anti-C5 received Anti-C5 intravenously on PTD-0 and -3. Group-PS showed increased anti-donor (DA) antibody-titers (P <0.001) and more C4d deposition in transplanted livers than in Group-NS (P <0.001). Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), total bile acid (TBA), and total bilirubin (T-Bil) were all significantly higher in Group-PS than in Group-NS (all P <0.01). Thrombocytopenia (P <0.01), coagulopathies (PT-INR, P =0.04), and histopathological deterioration (C4d+h-score, P <0.001) were also confirmed in Group-PS. Anti-C5 administration significantly lowered anti-DA IgG (P <0.05), resulting in decreased ALP, TBA, and T-Bil on PTD-7 than in Group-PS (all P <0.01). Histopathological improvement was also confirmed on PTD-1, -3, and -7 (all P <0.001). Of the 9, 543 genes analyzed by RNA sequencing, 575 genes were upregulated in LT-AMR (Group-PS vs. Group-NS). Of these, 6 were directly associated with the complement cascades. In particular, Ptx3, Tfpi2, and C1qtnf6 were specific to the classical pathway. 130. Nocebo response in dentistry : A systematic review and meta-analysis of adverse events in analgesic trials of third molar removal

Abstract

BackgroundThe nocebo response refers to the phenomenon where non-specific factors, including negative verbal suggestion and treatment expectations, cause adverse events (AE) following a placebo treatment. Non-specific factors are also likely to influence AE occurrence following administration of active pharmacological treatments. ObjectiveThis meta-analysis aimed to estimate the nocebo response in dentistry by assessing the AEs prevalence in placebo- and active arms of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) assessing analgesic treatment following third molar (M3) surgery. MethodsA systematic search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Eligible studies had to report the number of patients experiencing at least one drug-related AE (patients with AE >= 1) separately for the active and placebo arms. The proportion of patients with AE >= 1 and drug-related dropouts were pooled, and risk differences (RDs) between patients in the placebo- and active arm were calculated. ResultsIn 50 independent RCTs of 47 identified articles, the pooled rates of patients with AE >= 1 were 22.8% in the placebo arm and 20.6% in the active arm. The pooled rates of drug-related dropout were 0.24% in the placebo arm and 0.08% in the active arm. There were no significant RDs in patients with AE >= 1 and drug-related dropouts. ConclusionThese results show that patients in the placebo arm reported AEs to the same extent as patients receiving active treatment, suggesting that most AEs in analgesic medication following M3 surgery may be attributed to the nocebo phenomenon.

Abstract

In recent years, there has been growing demand for processes to form electromagnetic shielding films on the periphery of semiconductor packages, and shielding films are increasingly being formed by sputter deposition methods with stable processes. However, little consideration has been given to the adhesion mechanism between the mold resin and sputtered Cu film formed on the semiconductor devices. In this study, Cu films were sputtered on mold resin with different etching conditions, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to analyze the state of the interface, which affects adhesion. The color difference of the mold resin surface under different Ar and N2 etching conditions was also evaluated. Excellent adhesion between the mold resin and sputtered Cu was achieved under a high flow rate for Ar + N2 etching. The amount of Si (SiO2) exposed on the mold resin surface was correlated with the color difference. We proposed a mechanism in which amino groups in particular were formed on the surface of the mold resin, the resin etching rate increased, and the amount of SiO2 exposed increased. Functional groups, especially amino groups, were also formed on the SiO2 surface by N2 plasma. Abstract

Two-dimensional arrays of single-molecule magnets (SMMs) are a prerequisite for the construction of devices with ultrahigh-density magnetic memory based on molecular spintronics. The advantage of using such molecules in inorganic-based materials is the facile tuning of the accumulated structures and the resultant magnetic properties upon chemical modifications. In this study, we report the systematic modification of two-dimensional SMM-based metal–organic framework (MOF) structures via Langmuir–Blodgett methods and the chemical modifications of SMMs. A series of phthalocyaninato–porphyrinato terbium(III) double-decker SMMs substituted by four pyridyl units of the porphyrinato unit and alkoxyl chains of different lengths on the phthalocyaninato unit were synthesised and reacted with Pd2+ ions at the air–water interface to obtain the two-dimensional SMM-based MOFs. The MOFs exhibit perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, a promising aspect for the application of information storage. X-ray structural and surface pressure analyses revealed that the introduction of bulky alkoxide groups induced structural changes from densely to loosely packed structures. Furthermore, the magnetic structure of the thin film formed on water changed from in-plane to perpendicular magnetic anisotropy by increasing the alkoxide chain length. Our results suggest that the structure and magnetism of the thin films can be systematically modulated by introducing appropriate substituents. Our strategy for making SMM nanosheets is promising compared to previous methods from the viewpoint of the high concentration of SMMs, structural regularity, designability, and controlling the molecular arrangements based on molecular modification and solution-based processes.
