The formation and properties of star clusters formed at the edges of H II regions are poorly known. We study stellar content, physical conditions, and star formation processes around a relatively unknown young H II region IRAS 10427-6032, located in the southern outskirts of the Carina Nebula. We make use of near-IR data from VISTA, mid-IR from Spitzer and WISE, far-IR from Herschel, sub-mm from ATLASGAL, and 843 MHz radio-continuum data. Using multi-band photometry, we find a total of 5 Class I and 29 Class II young stellar object (YSO) candidates, most of which newly identified, in the 5'$\times$5' region centered on the IRAS source position. Modeling of the spectral energy distribution for selected YSO candidates using radiative transfer models shows that most of these candidates are intermediate mass YSOs in their early evolutionary stages. A majority of the YSO candidates are found to be coincident with the cold dense clump at the western rim of the H II region. Lyman continuum luminosity calculation using radio emission indicates the spectral type of the ionizing source to be earlier than B0.5-B1. We identified a candidate massive star possibly responsible for the H II region with an estimated spectral type B0-B0.5. The temperature and column density maps of the region constructed by performing pixel-wise modified blackbody fits to the thermal dust emission using the far-IR data show a high column density shell-like morphology around the H II region, and low column density (0.6 $\times$ 10$^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$) and high temperature ($\sim$21 K) matter within the H II region. Based on the morphology of the region in the ionized and the molecular gas, and the comparison between the estimated timescales of the H II region and the YSO candidates in the clump, we argue that the enhanced star-formation at the western rim of the H II region is likely due to compression by the ionized gas., 12 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables, Accepted for publication in New Astronomy

We have identified stellar and substellar members in the nearby star cluster Coma Berenices, using photometry, proper motions, and distances of a combination of 2MASS, UKIDSS, URAT1, and {\it Gaia}/DR2 data. Those with {\it Gaia}/DR2 parallax measurements provide the most reliable sample to constrain the distance, averaging 86.7~pc with a dispersion 7.1~pc, and the age $\sim800$~Myr, of the cluster. This age is older than the 400--600~Myr commonly adopted in the literature. Our analysis, complete within 5deg of the cluster radius, leads to identification of 192 candidates, among which, after field contamination is considered, about 148 are true members. The members have $J\sim3$~mag to $\sim17.5$~mag, corresponding to stellar masses 2.3--0.06~$M_\odot$. The mass function of the cluster peaks around 0.3~$M_\odot$ and, in the sense of $dN/dm = m^{-\alpha}$, where $N$ is the number of members and $m$ is stellar mass, has a slope $\alpha\approx 0.49\pm0.03$ in the mass range 0.3--2.3~$M_\odot$. This is much shallower than that of the field population in the solar neighborhood. The slope $\alpha=-1.69\pm0.14$ from 0.3~$M_\odot$ to 0.06~$M_\odot$, the lowest mass in our sample. The cluster is mass segregated and has a shape elongated toward the Galactic plane. Our list contains nine substellar members, including three new discoveries of an M8, an L1 and an L4 brown dwarfs, extending from the previously known coolest members of late-M types to even cooler types., Comment: Accepted by Astrophysical Journal

High utilization is one of the design goals for MPCP-based dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithms in Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON). However, utilization is sacrificed in order to meet the delay limits of the applications in most DBA design schemes. This paper proposes a dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm based on sorting report messages with additive-polling thresholds (AP-Sort DBA). This has the characteristics of high utilization and low delay during medium network loading. AP-Sort DBA is an extension of the adaptive dynamic bandwidth allocation algorithm with sorting report messages (Sort-DBA) and promotes utilization by reduction of unused slot remainders (USR) and distribution of excess bandwidth. For performance evaluation in terms of average delay, average queue size, loss rate and utilization, five DBA schemes are simulated, namely AP-Sort DBA, interleaved polling with adaptive cycle time (IPACT), dynamic bandwidth allocation with a modified grant table generation algorithm and fair-excess allocation (DBA2-FE), Sort-DBA and double phase polling algorithm (DPA). Self-similar traffic and OC-3 packet size distribution are used for frame generation. The results show that AP-Sort DBA can achieve up to 99% utilization, which is the highest among the tested alternatives, with up to 60% improved delay compared to the IPACT. Technical analysis is presented for further proof of the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Commission 25 (C25) deals with the techniques and issues involved with the measurement of optical and infrared radiation intensities and polarization from astronomical sources. As such, in recent years attention has focused on photometric standard stars, atmospheric extinction, photometric passbands, transformation between systems, nomenclature, and observing and reduction techniques. At the start of the trimester C25 changed its name from Stellar Photometry and Polarization to Astronomical Photometry and Polarization so as to explicitly include in its mandate particular issues arising from the measurement of resolved sources, given the importance of photometric redshifts of distant galaxies for many of the large photometric surveys now underway. We begin by summarizing commission activities over the 2012-2014 period, follow with a report on Polarimetry, continue with Photometry topics that have been of interest to C25 members, and conclude with a Vision for the Future.

Outdoor optical fiber cabinets are generally installed along roadsides where environmental conditions, such as sun exposure, rain, and dust, can cause damage to the cabinets. Furthermore, high temperatures and unexpected impacts that cause cabinet deformation may damage the network equipment inside the cabinets, affecting the quality of communications. This paper developed an optical fiber sensing system for real-time monitoring of the temperature variation and external forces exerted on outdoor cabinets using fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs). This FBG sensing system was established in the network management center, and was linked to the outdoor cabinets at the remote end through optical fibers in order to monitor the impacts and temperature changes of the cabinets. Experimental results revealed that exerting an external impact force of 297 N on an outdoor cabinet severely dented the impacted cabinet surface. When the monitoring system detects external impacts exceeding 297 N or cabinet temperatures greater than 65 °C, the network management center can then immediately send maintenance personnel to check for any network impairments.

Berkeley 59 is a nearby ($\sim$1 kpc) young cluster associated with the Sh2-171 H{\sc ii} region. We present deep optical observations of the central $\sim$2.5$\times$2.5 pc$^2$ area of the cluster, obtained with the 3.58-m Telescopio Nazionale Galileo. The $V$/($V$-$I$) color-magnitude diagram manifests a clear pre-main-sequence (PMS) population down to $\sim$ 0.2 M$_\odot$. Using the near-infrared and optical colors of the low-mass PMS members we derive a global extinction of A$_V$= 4 mag and a mean age of $\sim$ 1.8 Myr, respectively, for the cluster. We constructed the initial mass function and found that its global slopes in the mass ranges of 0.2 - 28 M$_\odot$ and 0.2 - 1.5 M$_\odot$ are -1.33 and -1.23, respectively, in good agreement with the Salpeter value in the solar neighborhood. We looked for the radial variation of the mass function and found that the slope is flatter in the inner region than in the outer region, indicating mass segregation. The dynamical status of the cluster suggests that the mass segregation is likely primordial. The age distribution of the PMS sources reveals that the younger sources appear to concentrate close to the inner region compared to the outer region of the cluster, a phenomenon possibly linked to the time evolution of star-forming clouds is discussed. Within the observed area, we derive a total mass of $\sim$ 10$^3$ M$_\odot$ for the cluster. Comparing the properties of Berkeley 59 with other young clusters, we suggest it resembles more to the Trapezium cluster., 14 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in the Astronomical Journal

The variability of young stellar objects is mostly driven by star-disk interactions. In long-term photometric monitoring of the accreting T Tauri star GI Tau, we detect extinction events with typical depths of $\Delta V \sim 2.5$ mag that last for days-to-months and often appear to occur stochastically. In 2014 - 2015, extinctions that repeated with a quasi-period of 21 days over several months is the first empirical evidence of slow warps predicted from MHD simulations to form at a few stellar radii away from the central star. The reddening is consistent with $R_V=3.85\pm0.5$ and, along with an absence of diffuse interstellar bands, indicates that some dust processing has occurred in the disk. The 2015 -- 2016 multi-band lightcurve includes variations in spot coverage, extinction, and accretion, each of which results in different traces in color-magnitude diagrams. This lightcurve is initially dominated by a month-long extinction event and return to the unocculted brightness. The subsequent light-curve then features spot modulation with a 7.03 day period, punctuated by brief, randomly-spaced extinction events. The accretion rate measured from $U$-band photometry ranges from $1.3\times10^{-8}$ to $1.1\times10^{-10}$ M$_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$ (excluding the highest and lowest 5% of high- and low- accretion rate outliers), with an average of $4.7 \times 10^{-9}$ M$_\odot$ yr$^{-1}$. A total of 50% of the mass is accreted during bursts of $>12.8\times10^{-9}$ M$_\odot$ yr${^{-1}}$, which indicates limitations on analyses of disk evolution using single-epoch accretion rates., Comment: 15 pages, 17 figures

Investigating variability at the earliest stages of low-mass star formation is fundamental in understanding how a protostar assembles mass. While many simulations of protostellar disks predict non-steady accretion onto protostars, deeper investigation requires robust observational constraints on the frequency and amplitude of variability events characterised across the observable SED. In this study, we develop methods to robustly analyse repeated observations of an area of the sky for submillimetre variability in order to determine constraints on the magnitude and frequency of deeply embedded protostars. We compare \mbox{850 $\mu$m} JCMT Transient Survey data with archival JCMT Gould Belt Survey data to investigate variability over 2-4 year timescales. Out of 175 bright, independent emission sources identified in the overlapping fields, we find 7 variable candidates, 5 of which we classify as \textit{Strong} and the remaining 2 as \textit{Extended} to indicate the latter are associated with larger-scale structure. For the \textit{Strong} variable candidates, we find an average fractional peak brightness change per year of |4.0|\% yr$^{-1}$ with a standard deviation of $2.7\%\mathrm{\:yr}^{-1}$. In total, 7\% of the protostars associated with \mbox{850 $\mu$m} emission in our sample show signs of variability. Four of the five \textit{Strong} sources are associated with a known protostar. The remaining source is a good follow-up target for an object that is anticipated to contain an enshrouded, deeply embedded protostar. Most protostars have luminosities that are fainter than expected from steady accretion over the protostellar lifetime. The solution to this problem may lie in episodic mass accretion -- prolonged periods of very low accretion punctuated by short bursts of rapid accretion. However, the timescale and amplitude for variability at the protostellar phase is almost entirely unconstrained. Blazar emission is dominated by non-thermal radiation from a relativistic jet pointing toward us, therefore undergoing Doppler beaming. This is responsible for flux enhancement and contraction of the variability time scales, so that most blazars appear as luminous sources characterized by noticeable and fast flux changes at all frequencies. The mechanisms producing their unpredictable variability are debated and include injection, acceleration and cooling of particles, with possible intervention of shock waves or turbulence. Changes in the viewing angle of the emitting knots or jet regions have also been suggested to explain flaring events or specific properties such as intraday variability, quasi-periodicities, or the delay of radio flux variations relative to optical changes. However, such a geometric interpretation has not been universally accepted because alternative explanations based on changes of physical conditions can also work in many cases. Here we report the results of optical-to-radio monitoring of the blazar CTA 102 by the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope Collaboration and show that the observed long-term flux and spectral variability is best explained by an inhomogeneous, curved jet that undergoes orientation changes. We propose that magnetohydrodynamic instabilities or rotation of a twisted jet cause different jet regions to change their orientation and hence their relative Doppler factors. Less offspring and aging are global issues that will be a bad news for cleaning work that requires a lot of manpower; the nightly cleaning jobs for large-scale indoor spaces introduce workers' overwork/fatigue problem. This study proposes a robot suitable for night time cleaning, which uses the industrial computer as the software control core, the AVR MCU for the control hardware part, the various obstacles avoidance sensors, and the cleaning mode algorithms. In the section of mechanism design, with a rotating space detection capability, the robot can safely avoid the steering into the corner. Users can utilize the interface for remote control and remote monitoring, allowing users to see the details of the cleaning and handling of goods transportation; remote monitoring can provide the video of robot's cleaning, so that users knows the cleaning status. Large-scale space cleaning robots used in the late night hours manage to transfer the original late-night cleaning manpower to the peak hours, not only solve the problem of late-night work but also solve the problem of lack of manpower during peak hours.

Aims. We studied the r ′-, z ′-, and y ′-band images of merging galaxies from the observations of the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS). The merging galaxies were selected from our merging catalog that was created by checking the images of the Red-Sequence Cluster Survey 2 from the observations of the Canada France Hawaii Telescope.Methods. By using the homomorphic-aperture, we determined the photometric results of these merging systems. To obtain accurate photometry, we calibrated the Pan-STARRS r ′-, z ′-, and y ′-band data to match the results of Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 9. We also investigated the stellar masses of the merging galaxies by comparing the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer 3.4 μ m emission with the calibrated y ′-band data.Results. We present a catalog of the r ′-, z ′-, and y ′-band photometric results for 4698 merging galaxies. For extended sources, our results suggest that the homomorphic-aperture method can obtain more reasonable results than the Desktop Virtual Observatory photometry. We derived new relations between the Pan-STARRS y ′-band luminosities and the stellar masses of the merging galaxies. Our results show that the stellar masses of the merging galaxies range from 108 to 1013 M ⊙ ; some of the dry mergers could be as massive as 1013 M ⊙ .

W4 is a giant H{\sc ii} region ionized by the OB stars of the cluster IC~1805. The H{\sc ii} region/cluster complex has been a subject of numerous investigations as it is an excellent laboratory for studying the feedback effect of massive stars on the surrounding region. However, the low-mass stellar content of the cluster IC~1805 remains poorly studied till now. With the aim to unravel the low-mass stellar population of the cluster, we present the results of a multiwavelength study based on deep optical data obtained with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, infrared data from 2MASS, $Spitzer$ Space Telescope and X-ray data from $Chandra$ Space Telescope. The present optical dataset is complete enough to detect stars down to 0.2~M$_\odot$, which is the deepest optical observations so far for the cluster. We identified 384 candidate young stellar objects (YSOs; 101 Class I/II and 283 Class III) within the cluster using various colour-colour and colour-magnitude diagrams. We inferred the mean age of the identified YSOs to be $\sim$ 2.5 Myr and mass in the range 0.3 - 2.5 M$_\odot$. The mass function of our YSO sample has a power law index of -1.23 $\pm$ 0.23, close to the Salpeter value (-1.35), and consistent with those of other star-forming complexes. We explored the disk evolution of the cluster members and found that the diskless sources are relatively older compared to the disk bearing YSO candidates. We examined the effect of high-mass stars on the circumstellar disks and found that within uncertainties, the influence of massive stars on the disk fraction seems to be insignificant. We also studied the spatial correlation of the YSOs with the distribution of gas and dust of the complex to conclude that IC 1805 would have formed in a large filamentary cloud., Accepted for publication in MNRAS; 34 pages, 10 figures

Distant luminous quasars provide important information on the growth of the first supermassive black holes, their host galaxies and the epoch of reionization. The identification of quasars is usually performed through detection of their Lyman-$\alpha$ line redshifted to $\sim$ 0.9 microns at z>6.5. Here, we report the discovery of a very Lyman-$\alpha$ luminous quasar, PSO J006.1240+39.2219 at redshift z=6.618, selected based on its red colour and multi-epoch detection of the Lyman-$\alpha$ emission in a single near-infrared band. The Lyman-$\alpha$-line luminosity of PSO J006.1240+39.2219 is unusually high and estimated to be 0.8$\times$10$^{12}$ Solar luminosities (about 3% of the total quasar luminosity). The Lyman-$\alpha$ emission of PSO J006.1240+39.2219 shows fast variability on timescales of days in the quasar rest frame, which has never been detected in any of the known high-redshift quasars. The high luminosity of the Lyman-$\alpha$ line, its narrow width and fast variability resemble properties of local Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxies which suggests that the quasar is likely at the active phase of the black hole growth accreting close or even beyond the Eddington limit., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures

In 2015 July 29 - September 1 the satellite XMM-Newton pointed at the BL Lac object PG 1553+133 six times, collecting data for 218 hours. During one of these epochs, simultaneous observations by the Swift satellite were requested to compare the results of the X-ray and optical-UV instruments. Optical, near-infrared and radio monitoring was carried out by the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) collaboration for the whole observing season. We here present the results of the analysis of all these data, together with an investigation of the source photometric and polarimetric behaviour over the last three years. The 2015 EPIC spectra show slight curvature and the corresponding light curves display fast X-ray variability with a time scale of the order of 1 hour. In contrast to previous results, during the brightest X-ray states detected in 2015 the simple log-parabolic model that best-fits the XMM-Newton data also reproduces reasonably well the whole synchrotron bump, suggesting a peak in the near-UV band. We found evidence of a wide rotation of the polarization angle in 2014, when the polarization degree was variable, but the flux remained almost constant. This is difficult to interpret with deterministic jet emission models, while it can be easily reproduced by assuming some turbulence of the magnetic field., Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures, accepted by Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

We present CCD light curves of V710 Mon obtained in 2007 and 2013. By using the 2010 version of the W-D code, it is found that the star is a deep (59.5-62.7%) contact binary system, with an extreme mass ratio (0.143-0.183). The period of the system increases with a rate dP/dt = +1.95( +/- 0.06) x 10(-7) days/year. We propose that the system contains a post-main-sequence component which may be in an expanding phase. The time scale of the orbital increase nearly equals to the time for the post-main-sequence star to evolve into a subgiant. The age of the primary is estimated to be 5.34 Gyr. Bright-rimmed clouds (BRCs), illuminated and shaped by nearby OB stars, are potential sites of recent/ongoing star formation. Here we present an optical and infrared photometric study of three BRCs: BRC 5, BRC 7 and BRC 39 to obtain a census of the young stellar population, thereby inferring the star formation scenario, in these regions. In each BRC, the Class I sources are found to be located mostly near the bright rim or inside the cloud, whereas the Class II sources are preferentially outside, with younger sources closer to the rim. This provides strong support to sequential star formation triggered by radiation driven implosion due to the UV radiation. Moreover, each BRC contains a small group of young stars being revealed at its head, as the next-generation stars. In particular, the young stars at the heads of BRC 5 and BRC 7 are found to be intermediate/high mass stars, which, under proper conditions, may themselves trigger further star birth, thereby propagating star formation out to long distances., Comment: 30 pages, 7 Figures, 6 Tables, accepted for publication in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

We report our investigation of the first transiting planet candidate from the YETI project in the young (~4 Myr old) open cluster Trumpler 37. The transit-like signal detected in the lightcurve of the F8V star 2M21385603+5711345 repeats every 1.364894+/-0.000015 days, and has a depth of 54.5+/-0.8 mmag in R. Membership to the cluster is supported by its mean radial velocity and location in the color-magnitude diagram, while the Li diagnostic and proper motion are inconclusive in this regard. Follow-up photometric monitoring and adaptive optics imaging allow us to rule out many possible blend scenarios, but our radial-velocity measurements show it to be an eclipsing single-lined spectroscopic binary with a late-type (mid-M) stellar companion, rather than one of planetary nature. The estimated mass of the companion is 0.15-0.44 solar masses. The search for planets around very young stars such as those targeted by the YETI survey remains of critical importance to understand the early stages of planet formation and evolution.

A class of asteroids, called large super-fast rotators (large SFRs), have rotation periods shorter than 2 hours and diameters larger than ~ 0.3 km. They pose challenges to the usual interior rubble-pile structure unless a relatively high bulk density is assumed. So far, only six large SFRs have been found. Therefore, we present a survey of asteroid rotation period using Pan-STARRS 1 telescopes during 2016 October 26 to 31 to search more large SFRs and study their properties. A total of 876 reliable rotation periods are measured, among which seven are large SFRs, thereby increasing the inventory of known large SFRs. These seven newly discovered large SFRs have diverse colors and locations in the main asteroid belt, suggesting that the taxonomic tendency and the location preference in the inner main belt of the six perviously known large SFRs could be a bias due to various observational limits. Interestingly, five out of the seven newly discovered large SFRs are mid main-belt asteroids. Considering the rare discovery rates of large SFR in the previously similar surveys (Chang et al., 2015, 2016) and the survey condition in this work, the chance of detecting a large SFR in the inner main belt seems to be relatively low. This probably suggests that the inner main belt harbors less large SFRs than the mid main belt. From our survey, we also found the drop in number appearing at f > 5 rev/day on the spin-rate distribution for the outer main-belt asteroids of D < 3 km, which was reported for the inner and mid main belt by (Chang et al., 2015, 2016)., Accepted by ApJS on Jan 24, 2019

With an apparent cluster diameter of 1.5{\deg} and an age of ~4 Myr, Trumpler 37 is an ideal target for photometric monitoring of young stars as well as for the search of planetary transits, eclipsing binaries and other sources of variability. The YETI consortium has monitored Trumpler 37 throughout 2010 and 2011 to obtain a comprehensive view of variable phenomena in this region. In this first paper we present the cluster properties and membership determination as derived from an extensive investigation of the literature. We also compared the coordinate list to some YETI images. For 1872 stars we found literature data. Among them 774 have high probability of being member and 125 a medium probability. Based on infrared data we re-calculate a cluster extinction of 0.9-1.2 mag. We can confirm the age and distance to be 3-5 Myr and ~870 pc. Stellar masses are determined from theoretical models and the mass function is fitted with a power-law index of alpha=1.90 (0.1-0.4 M_sun) and alpha=1.12 (1-10 M_sun).

This paper introduces a die-casting mold design process. On the basis of the shape of Car oil pump support, central of castings’ side face was selected as the mold joint; due to the design requirements of pouring system, we chosen bias running system. Castings’ size was calculated by requirement of die casting machine, then accomplished designs of molding and structure’s components. Discuss how iron, copper and magnesium alloy and rare earth cerium influence the electrical and mechanical properties of aluminum conductor using the orthogonal test, to thereby get the best alloy composition that meets the requirement; through test analysis on the conductivity, intensity and elongation at break of aluminum conductor with the best alloy composition, discuss the influence of different annealing temperature and holding time on their performance. The results show that: the best material composition of the aluminum alloy conductor would be 0.25% Fe, 0.40% Cu, 0.05% Mg, 0.30% Ce, 0.008% B, and aluminum and inevitable impurities. The intensity, elongation at break and conductivity of this aluminum conductor would be 110N/mm2, 30.0% and 62.2%IACS respectively. The best annealing process parameters are annealing temperature of 310°C, and holding time for 30min, direct air cool. The intensity of aluminum conductor processed is 129 N/mm2, and the elongation at break, resistivity, and conductivity are 15.0%, 2.782×10-8Ω•m and 62%IACS respectively. The mechanical properties and conductivity of this aluminum conductor both comply with the requirements of wire and cable conductor cores.

The paper discussed the effects of Ce, Mn, Cr on the microstructure and properties of high-iron eutectic Al-Si piston alloy using orthogonal design. It has been found that Mn and Cr improved the morphology of β phase (Al9FeSi3), becoming the Fe phase that consists of Mn and Cr; Rare earths Ce has a strong effect on refinement of the eutectic silicon. At a high mass fraction of Ce, Ce enter Fe phase that contains Mn and Ce, which improves its morphology greatly and decreases the size of Fe phase, and is able to replace the position of Ni, becoming high-temperature Al-Ni-Cu-Ce phase. The best additions of Ce, Fe, Mn, Cr would be 0.8%, 1.0%, 0.4% and 0.1% respectively and the tensile strength under room temperature (25°C) and high temperature(300°C) would reach 270.3MPa and 136.7MPa respectively, which fully meet the requirements of the use of novel the piston high temperature load.

We present the analysis of the morphological shape of Berkeley 17, the oldest known open cluster (~10 Gyr), using a probabilistic star counting of Pan-STARRS point sources, and confirm its core-tail shape, plus an antitail, previously detected with the 2MASS data. The stellar population, as diagnosed by the color-magnitude diagram and theoretical isochrones, shows many massive members in the cluster core, whereas there is a paucity of such members in both tails. This manifests mass segregation in this aged star cluster with the low-mass members being stripped away from the system. It has been claimed that Berkeley 17 is associated with an excessive number of blue straggler candidates. The proposed system is using low-cost Arduino MEGA 2560 Development Board, synthesizing with PLC module, facilitated with QPSK modulating capability. A generic R-type fire alarm system is hereafter constructed, with a master-slave architecture connecting to fire sensors. No extra modification/rehabilitation is needed for those old buildings because the proposed fire alarm system is mounted on buildings' wiring system. Wiring and labor costs are substantially reduced, and the protection of both human and property are assured and guaranteed.

Although the majority of Centaurs are thought to have originated in the scattered disk, with the high-inclination members coming from the Oort cloud, the origin of the high inclination component of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) remains uncertain. We report the discovery of a retrograde TNO, which we nickname "Niku", detected by the Pan-STARRS 1 Outer Solar System Survey. Our numerical integrations show that the orbital dynamics of Niku are very similar to that of 2008 KV$_{42}$ (Drac), with a half-life of $\sim 500$ Myr. Comparing similar high inclination TNOs and Centaurs ($q > 10$ AU, $a < 100$ AU and $i > 60^\circ$), we find that these objects exhibit a surprising clustering of ascending node, and occupy a common orbital plane. This orbital configuration has high statistical significance: 3.8-$��$. An unknown mechanism is required to explain the observed clustering. Protein turnover is an important aspect of the regulation of cellular processes for organisms when responding to developmental or environmental cues. The measurement of protein turnover in plants, in contrast to that of rapidly growing unicellular organismal cultures, is made more complicated by the high degree of amino acid recycling, resulting in significant transient isotope incorporation distributions that must be dealt with computationally for high throughput analysis to be practical. An algorithm in R, ProteinTurnover, was developed to calculate protein turnover with transient stable isotope incorporation distributions in a high throughput automated manner using high resolution MS and MS/MS proteomic analysis of stable isotopically labeled plant material. ProteinTurnover extracts isotopic distribution information from raw MS data for peptides identified by MS/MS from data sets of either isotopic label dilution or incorporation experiments. Variable isotopic incorporation distributions were modeled using binomial and beta-binomial distributions to deconvolute the natural abundance, newly synthesized/partial-labeled, and fully labeled peptide distributions. Maximum likelihood estimation was performed to calculate the distribution abundance proportion of old and newly synthesized peptides. The half-life or turnover rate of each peptide was calculated from changes in the distribution abundance proportions using nonlinear regression. We applied ProteinTurnover to obtain half-lives of proteins from enriched soluble and membrane fractions from Arabidopsis roots.

Astronomy and astrophysics 603, A31 (2017). doi:10.1051/0004-6361/201629540, We present an extensive study of the BL Lac object Mrk 501 based on a data set collected during the multi-instrument campaign spanning from 2009 March 15 to 2009 August 1, which includes, among other instruments, MAGIC, VERITAS, Whipple 10 m, and Fermi-LAT to cover the γ-ray range from 0.1 GeV to 20 TeV; RXTE and Swift to cover wavelengths from UV tohard X-rays; and GASP-WEBT, which provides coverage of radio and optical wavelengths. Optical polarization measurements were provided for a fraction of the campaign by the Steward and St. Petersburg observatories. We evaluate the variability of the source and interband correlations, the γ-ray flaring activity occurring in May 2009, and interpret the results within two synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) scenarios. Aims. The multiband variability observed during the full campaign is addressed in terms of the fractional variability, and the possible correlations are studied by calculating the discrete correlation function for each pair of energy bands where the significance was evaluated with dedicated Monte Carlo simulations. The space of SSC model parameters is probed following a dedicated grid-scan strategy, allowing for a wide range of models to be tested and offering a study of the degeneracy of model-to-data agreement in the individual model parameters, hence providing a less biased interpretation than the “single-curve SSC model adjustment” typically reported in the literature. Methods. We find an increase in the fractional variability with energy, while no significant interband correlations of flux changes are found on the basis of the acquired data set. The SSC model grid-scan shows that the flaring activity around May 22 cannot be modeled adequately with a one-zone SSC scenario (using an electron energy distribution with two breaks), while it can be suitably described within a two (independent) zone SSC scenario. Here, one zone is responsible for the quiescent emission from the averaged 4.5-month observing period, while the other one, which is spatially separated from the first, dominates the flaring emission occurring at X-rays and very-high-energy (>100 GeV, VHE) γ rays. The flaring activity from May 1, which coincides with a rotation of the electric vector polarization angle (EVPA), cannot be satisfactorily reproduced by either a one-zone or a two-independent-zone SSC model, yet this is partially affected by the lack of strictly simultaneous observations and the presence of large flux changes on sub-hour timescales (detected at VHE γ rays). Results. The higher variability in the VHE emission and lack of correlation with the X-ray emission indicate that, at least during the 4.5-month observing campaign in 2009, the highest energy (and most variable) electrons that are responsible for the VHE γ rays do not make a dominant contribution to the ~1 keV emission. Alternatively, there could be a very variable component contributing to the VHE γ-ray emission in addition to that coming from the SSC scenario. The studies with our dedicated SSC grid-scan show that there is some degeneracy in both the one-zone and the two-zone SSC scenarios probed, with several combinations of model parameters yielding a similar model-to-data agreement, and some parameters better constrained than others. The observed γ-ray flaring activity, with the EVPA rotation coincident with the first γ-ray flare, resembles those reported previously for low frequency peaked blazars, hence suggesting that there are many similarities in the flaring mechanisms of blazars with different jet properties., Published by EDP Sciences, Les Ulis

We present monitoring observations of the active T Tauri star RW Aur, from 2010 October to 2015 January, using optical high-resolution (R>10000) spectroscopy with CFHT-ESPaDOnS. Optical photometry in the literature shows bright, stable fluxes over most of this period, with lower fluxes (by 2-3 mag.) in 2010 and 2014. In the bright period our spectra show clear photospheric absorption, complicated variation in the Ca II 8542 A emission}profile shapes, and a large variation in redshifted absorption in the O I 7772 and 8446 A and He I 5876 A lines, suggesting unstable mass accretion during this period. In contrast, these line profiles are relatively uniform during the faint periods, suggesting stable mass accretion. During the faint periods the photospheric absorption lines are absent or marginal, and the averaged Li I profile shows redshifted absorption due to an inflow. We discuss (1) occultation by circumstellar material or a companion and (2) changes in the activity of mass accretion to explain the above results, together with near-infrared and X-ray observations from 2011-2015. In this work we report the detection of seven Neptune Trojans (NTs) in the Pan-STARRS 1 (PS1) survey. Five of these are new discoveries, consisting of four L4 Trojans and one L5 Trojan. Our orbital simulations show that the L5 Trojan stably librates for only several million years. This suggests that the L5 Trojan must be of recent capture origin. On the other hand, all four new L4 Trojans stably occupy the 1:1 resonance with Neptune for more than 1 Gyr. They can, therefore, be of primordial origin. Our survey simulation results show that the inclination width of the Neptune Trojan population should be between $7^{\circ}$ and $27^{\circ}$ at $>$ 95% confidence, and most likely $\sim 11^{\circ}$. We study the multi-band variability and correlations of the TeV blazar Mrk 421 on year time scales, which can bring additional insight on the processes responsible for its broadband emission. We observed Mrk 421 in the very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray range with the Cherenkov telescope MAGIC-I from March 2007 to June 2009 for a total of 96 hours of effective time after quality cuts. The VHE flux variability is quantified with several methods, including the Bayesian Block algorithm, which is applied to data from Cherenkov telescopes for the first time. The 2.3 year long MAGIC light curve is complemented with data from the Swift/BAT and RXTE/ASM satellites and the KVA, GASP-WEBT, OVRO, and Mets\"ahovi telescopes from February 2007 to July 2009, allowing for an excellent characterisation of the multi-band variability and correlations over year time scales. Mrk 421 was found in different gamma-ray emission states during the 2.3 year long observation period. Flares and different levels of variability in the gamma-ray light curve could be identified with the Bayesian Block algorithm. The same behaviour of a quiet and active emission was found in the X-ray light curves measured by Swift/BAT and the RXTE/ASM, with a direct correlation in time. The behaviour of the optical light curve of GASP-WEBT and the radio light curves by OVRO and Mets\"ahovi are different as they show no coincident features with the higher energetic light curves and a less variable emission. The fractional variability is overall increasing with energy. We present results of multi-epoch (14 nights during 2007–2010) V-band photometry of the cluster NGC 1893 region to identify photometric variable stars in the cluster. The study identified a total of 53 stars showing photometric variability. The members associated with the region are identified on the basis of spectral energy distribution, J − H/H − K two-colour diagram and V/V − I colour–magnitude diagram. The ages and masses of the majority of pre-main-sequence sources are found to be ≲5 Myr and in the range , respectively. These pre-main-sequence sources hence could be T Tauri stars. We also determined the physical parameters like disc mass and accretion rate from the spectral energy distribution of these T Tauri stars. The periods of majority of the T Tauri stars range from 0.1 to 20 d. The brightness of Classical T Tauri stars is found to vary with larger amplitude in comparison to weak line T Tauri stars. It is found that the amplitude decreases with increase in mass, which could be due to the dispersal of discs of massive stars.

We present multiwavelength optical linear polarimetric observations of 69 stars toward the young open cluster Be 59. The observations reveal the presence of three dust layers located at the distances of \sim300, \sim500 and \sim700 pc. The dust layers produce a total polarization Pv \sim 5.5 per cent. The mean values of polarization and polarization angles due to the dust layers are found to increase systematically with distance. We show that polarimetry in combination with the (U - B) - (B - V) colour-colour diagram yields a better identification of cluster members. The polarization measurements suggest that the polarization due the intra-cluster medium is \sim 2.2 per cent. An anomalous reddening law exists for the cluster region, indicating a relatively larger grain size than that in the diffuse ISM. The spatial variation of the polarization and E(B - V) is found to increase with radial distance from the cluster center, whereas the {\theta}v and {\lambda}max are found to decrease with increasing radial distance from the cluster center. About 40 per cent of cluster members show the signatures of either intrinsic polarization or rotation in their polarization angles. There is an indication that the star light of the cluster members might have been depolarized because of non-uniform alignment of dust grains in the foreground dust layers and in the intra-cluster medium.

LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT is a popular system for learning robot science, but the way of remote control and carrying capacity is limited by connection wire length and plastics bricks. This study is to design an intelligent wireless controller that can connect with it. Connecting with touch sensor, accelerometer and gyroscope, the controller can sense the user motion in the three dimensions and then transmit sensor data to it through ZigBee network to drive it. Besides, the weak robot structure of LEGO bricks is strengthened by the TEERIX metal material bricks. The purpose of this research is to inspire the students’ interesting and enhance their applied ability of robot field.

This paper elaborates on the development of elastic combined packing and an integrated device for treating domestic sewage aboard ships, analyzes the growth of combined packing microorganisms, the speed of membrane forming as well as the impact of raw water quality on membrane forming, and conducts a simulation experiment of treating domestic sewage by membrane bio-reactors. Researches show that elastic combined packing features high specific surface area and high speed of membrane forming and that this integrated domestic sewage treatment device performs well and can be widely applied.

Despite drug eluting stents (DESs) have revolutionized the interventional cardiology over the past decade since the first DES became commercially available nearly a decade ago, burst release of loaded drugs and late thrombosis caused by polymer coatings of the stents are high concerned. In this situation, inorganic coatings, such as silica-based hybrid materials, have aroused researcher’s interest. In this study, aspirin (ASA) was incorporated into the sol-gel derived silica matrix with polyethylene glycol (PEG) as an organic modifier to improve the flexibility and extensibility of the inorganic matrices. We also used L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) as a bio-adhesive reagent to enhance interface adhesion between the coating materials and the 316L stainless steel substrate. The results show that the introduction of D-LOPA can greatly improve the coating quality by enhancement of uniformity and adhesion. The loading ASA was slowly released from the coatings and burst release was effectively inhibited owing to the encapsulation of ASA molecules in the silica-PEG matrices.

PG 1351+489 is one of the 20 DBVs ― pulsating helium-atmosphere white dwarf stars ― known and has the simplest power spectrum for this class of star, making it a good candidate to study cooling rates. We report accurate period determinations for the main peak at 489.334 48 s and two other normal modes using data from the Whole Earth Telescope (WET) observations of 1995 and 2009. In 2009, we detected a new pulsation mode and the main pulsation mode exhibited substantial change in its amplitude compared to all previous observations. We were able to estimate the star's rotation period, of 8.9 h, and discuss a possible determination of the rate of period change of (2.0 ± 0.9) x 10 ―13 s s ―1 , the first such estimate for a DBV.

We report variable stars identified in the field of the Galactic open cluster, NGC 7039. In the fall/winter of 2009, imaging photometry has been acquired, mainly in the R band, for eight open clusters using the 81 cm Tenagra telescope in Arizona. We present the results for our first target, NGC 7039. We have found 42 new variable stars and six suspected variable stars. Among the variable stars, there are 14 eclipsing binaries, including one RS Canum Venaticorum-type system, one RR Lyrae, two Cepheid, one β Cephei, three δ Scuti, eight pulsatinglike stars, five variable stars with periods longer than the observation window of 41 days, and eight irregular variable stars. Two contact binary systems could be members of NGC 7039 because of their loci in the color-magnitude diagram and their distance moduli close to that of the open cluster. One of the contact binary systems shows infrared excess in the (J - H) and (H - Ks) diagrams. It could have circumstellar dust. None of the pulsating stars belong to the open cluster.
