BackgroundAbout 20% of on-treatment patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) experienced low-level viraemia (LLV), which is associated with persistent low-grade inflammation, fibrosis progression, and increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. We aimed to investigate the high-risk factors related to LLV.MethodsIn this retrospective study, patients receiving entecavir (ETV) treatment from January 2018 to January 2023 were enrolled, and were divided into a LLV (HBV DNA 20-2000 IU/mL) cohort and a complete virological response (CVR) (HBV DNA < 20 IU/mL) cohort according to the virological response at week 48 posttreatment. Treatment baseline characteristics were retrieved from electronic medical records. Multivariate logistic regression was performed.ResultsTotally, 1653 patients were enrolled, male patients accounted for 73.0%; the median age was 44 years; the mean HBV DNA level was 5.9 Log10 IU/ml. Among them, 472 (28.6%) experienced LLV. Multivariate analysis showed that HBeAg positivity (OR = 2.650, 95% CI: 2.000-3.511, p < 0.001), HBV DNA ≥ 6.0 Log10 IU/mL (OR = 1.370, 95% CI: 1.054-1.780, p = 0.019), qHBsAg ≥ 9000 IU/mL (OR = 4.472, 95% CI: 3.410-5.866, p < 0.001), cirrhosis (OR = 1.650, 95% CI: 1.234-2.207, P = 0.001), LSM ≥ 13.0 kPa (OR = 1.644, 95% CI: 1.203-2.246, p = 0.002), and PLT < 100×109/L (OR = 1.450, 95% CI: 1.094-1.922, p = 0.010) at baseline were related to the development of LLV.ConclusionsHigh HBV DNA/HBsAg quantification/LSM, low PLT, HBeAg positivity, and liver cirrhosis were high-risk factors associated with LLV in patients receiving entecavir treatment.

Abstract Photonic and plasmonic hybrid nanostructures are the key solution for integrated nanophotonic circuits with ultracompact size but relative low loss. However, the poor tunability and modulability of conventional waveguides makes them cumbersome for optical multiplexing. Here we make use of two‐dimensional molecular crystal, α‐Sb2O3 as a dielectric waveguide via total internal reflection, which shows polarization‐sensitive modulation of the propagating beams due to its large polarization mode dispersion. Both experiments and simulations are performed to verify such concept. These Sb2O3 nanoflakes can be coupled with plasmonic nanowires to form nanophotonic beam splitters and routers which can be easily modulated by changing the polarization of the incidence. It thus provides a robust, exploitable and tunable platform for on‐chip nanophotonics.

Background and purposeCurrent studies have substantiated the sparing effect of ultra-high dose rate irradiation (FLASH) in various organs including the brain, lungs, and intestines. Whether this sparing effect extends to esophageal tissue remains unexplored. This study aims to compare the different responses of esophageal tissue in histological and protein expression levels following conventional dose rate irradiation (CONV) and FLASH irradiation to ascertain the presence of a sparing effect.Methods and materialsC57 female mice were randomly divided into three groups: control, CONV, and FLASH groups. The chest region of the mice in the radiation groups was exposed to a prescribed dose of 20 Gy using a modified electron linear accelerator. The CONV group received an average dose rate of 0.1 Gy/s, while the FLASH group received an average dose rate of 125 Gy/s. On the 10th day after irradiation, the mice were euthanized and their esophagi were collected for histopathological analysis. Subsequently, label-free proteomic quantification analysis was performed on esophageal tissue. The validation process involved analyzing transmission electron microscopy images and utilizing the parallel reaction monitoring method.ResultsHistopathology results indicated a significantly lower extent of esophageal tissue damage in the FLASH group compared to the CONV group (p < 0.05). Label-free quantitative proteomic analysis revealed that the sparing effect observed in the FLASH group may be attributed to a reduction in radiation-induced protein damage associated with mitochondrial functions, including proteins involved in the tricarboxylic acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation, as well as a decrease in acute inflammatory responses.ConclusionsCompared with CONV irradiation, a sparing effect on esophageal tissue can be observed after FLASH irradiation. This sparing effect is associated with alleviated mitochondria damage and acute inflammation.

Abstract Outstanding charge transport in molecular crystals is of great importance in modern electronics and optoelectronics. The widely adopted strategies to enhance charge transport, such as restraining intermolecular vibration, are mostly limited to organic molecules, which are nearly inoperative in 2D inorganic molecular crystals currently. In this contribution, charge transport in 2D inorganic molecular crystals is improved by integrating charge‐delocalized Se8 rings as building blocks, where the delocalized electrons on Se8 rings lift the intermolecular orbitals overlap, offering efficient charge transfer channels. Besides, α‐Se flakes composed of charge‐delocalized Se8 rings possess small exciton binding energy. Benefitting from these, α‐Se flake exhibits excellent photodetection performance with an ultrafast response rate (~5 μs) and a high detectivity of 1.08 × 1011 Jones. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the charge transport of 2D inorganic molecular crystals composed of electron‐delocalized inorganic molecules and pave the way for their potential application in optoelectronics.

Objectives: To investigate the prevalence of Mycobacterium abscessus complex (MABC), drug resistance characteristics, and the relationship between clarithromycin (CLA) susceptibility and MABC genotype in Chongqing, China. Methods: A total of 434 NTM patient isolates were collected between October 2018 and October 2019. Isolates confirmed to be non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) were tested for minimal inhibitory concentrations of antimicrobial agents. In addition, rrl and erm(41) gene sequences were used to analyze the acquired macrolide resistance and inducible macrolide resistance. Results: Overall, 17 different NTM species were detected, of which M. abscessus (22.6 %, 91/403) was most prevalent. Amikacin, CLA, azithromycin and cefoxitin exhibited potent activities against MABC organisms, but no significant differences were observed in drug resistance rates between M. abscessus and M. massiliense (P > 0.05). On day 3 of culture, the acquired resistance rate against CLA was 7.4 % (9/121). Of 41 MABC isolates with inducible CLA resistant, 95.1 % (39/41) isolates belonged to the erm(41) T28 sequevar, while the remaining 4.9 % (2/41) possessed the M. massiliense genotype. All erm(41) C28 sequevar isolates were sensitive to CLA on day3 and day 14 of culture. Meanwhile, of the 5 erm(41) T28 isolates with acquired resistance, all possessed rrl 2058/2059 mutations, including 3 isolates with A2058C mutation and 2 isolates with A2059G mutation. While 2 of the 4 M. massiliense isolates with acquired resistance possessed the A2059G mutation, and one isolate possessed the A2058G mutation. Conclusion: Erm(41) and rrl gene could serve as useful markers for predicting macrolide susceptibility of MABC complex isolates.

Purpose: Nowadays, the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused an important change in teaching models. The emotional experience of this change has an important impact on online teaching. This paper aims to explore its time evolution characteristics and provide reference for the development of online teaching in the post epidemic era. Design/methodology/approach: The article firstly crawls the online teaching-related comment text data on Zhihu platform and performs emotional calculation to obtain a one-dimensional time series of daily average emotional values. Then, by using non-linear time-series analysis, this paper reconstructs the daily average emotion value time series in high-dimensional phase space, calculates the maximum Lyapunov exponent and correlation dimension and finally, explores the feature patterns through recurrence plot and recurrence quantification analysis. Findings: It was found that the sequence has typical non-linear chaotic characteristics; its correlation dimension indicates that it contains obvious fractal characteristics; the public emotional evolution shows a cyclical rise and fall. By text mining and temporal evolution analysis, this paper explores the evolution law over chronically of the daily average emotion value time series, provides feasible strategies to improve students' online learning experience and quality and continuously optimizes this new teaching model in the era of pandemic. Originality/value: Based on social knowledge sharing platform of Q&A, this paper models and analyzes users interaction data under online teaching-related topics. This paper explores the evolution law over a long time period of the daily average emotion value time series using text mining and temporal evolution analysis. It then offers workable solutions to enhance the quality and experience of students' online learning, and it continuously improves this new teaching model in the age of pandemics.

Abstract Fish scales, considered as low-value by-products, contain peptides and hydroxyapatite that can be applied to produce peptide chelated calcium directly. This study developed a sustainable and one-pot fabrication method for the peptide-chelated calcium from fish scale hydrolysates (FSP-Ca). During pepsin hydrolysis, the releases of peptides (FSP), calcium, and phosphate from fish scales occurred simultaneously, and the chelation was also effectively performed. After a 6-h hydrolysis, the yield of FSP was 46.18%, and the dissolution rate of calcium was 49.53%. Under the optimal conditions (pH 7, chelation time of 25 min, and chelation temperature of 48 °C), a high chelation rate of 86.16% was obtained, with a calcium content of 81.8 mg/g. The results of UV absorption, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed the successful chelation between FSP and calcium derived from fish scales. The –NH2, –COO–, N–H, C=O, C–H, and –OH groups in FSP participated in the formation of FSP-Ca. Graphical Abstract

Abstract As testicular mesenchymal stromal cells, stem Leydig cells (SLCs) show great promise in the treatment of male hypogonadism. The therapeutic functions of mesenchymal stromal cells are largely determined by their reciprocal regulation by immune responses. However, the immunoregulatory properties of SLCs remain unclear. Here, we observe that SLCs transplantation restore male fertility and testosterone production in an ischemia‒reperfusion injury mouse model. SLCs prevent inflammatory cascades through mitochondrial transfer to macrophages. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) released from activated macrophages inducing mitochondrial transfer from SLCs to macrophages in a transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily member 7 (TRPM7)-mediated manner. Notably, knockdown of TRPM7 in transplanted SLCs compromised therapeutic outcomes in both testicular ischemia‒reperfusion and testicular aging mouse models. These findings reveal a new mechanism of SLCs transplantation that may contribute to preserve testis function in male patients with hypogonadism related to immune disorders.

Abstract Background While research on substance using youth experiencing homelessness (YEH) is increasing, there is a dearth of information regarding effective prevention interventions for these youth. Suicide is the leading cause of death among YEH and most youth do not access services that may be available to them. Therefore, this study seeks to address this gap in the research literature with the goal to identify an effective suicide prevention intervention that can be readily adopted by communities that serve these youth. Methods Three hundred (N = 300) YEH with recent substance use and suicidal ideation or a recent suicide attempt will be recruited from the streets as well as a drop-in center serving YEH. After the baseline assessment, all youth will be randomly assigned to Cognitive Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CTSP) + Services as Usual (SAU) (N = 150) or to SAU alone (N = 150). SAU includes outreach, advocacy, and service linkage whereas YEH who receive CTSP will also receive ten CTSP sessions and an optional nine booster sessions. Follow-up assessments will be conducted at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months post-baseline. Theoretically derived mediators (e.g., cognitive distortions) will be tested to shed light on mechanisms associated with change, and the moderating effects of sex, race, sexual orientation, and baseline service connection will be examined. In order to ease future dissemination of the intervention to agencies serving YEH, we will rigorously assess acceptability, feasibility, fidelity, and cost associated with the delivery of our intervention approach using a mixed-methods approach. Discussion This study adds to a very small number of clinical trials seeking to prevent lethal suicide among a very high-risk group by addressing suicidal ideation directly rather than underlying conditions. It is hypothesized that youth receiving CTSP + SAU will show greater reductions in suicidal ideation (primary outcome), substance use, and depressive symptoms (secondary outcomes) over time compared to SAU alone, as well as improved risk and protective factors. Abstract Feeding faba beans to freshwater fish could crisp its muscle texture to avoid softening. However, the dynamic crisping mechanism was unclear. Herein, a 120‐day feeding trial was conducted to systemically investigate the textural crisping mechanism of crisp grass carp (CGC) via molecular‐level, gene/protein expression analysis. In the early crisping stage (0–30 days), the total antioxidant capacity significantly decreased (by 16.79%), TUNEL staining and qRT‐PCR results revealed that apoptosis occurred, which was induced by oxidative stress validating by proteomics. Meanwhile, the content of dityrosine and hydroxylysyl pyridinoline rose, thereby substantially increasing the hardness and chewiness of CGC by 37.51% and 40.84%, respectively. With further crisping (30–90 days), Masson staining exhibited collagen gradually filling the gap between myofibrils, the content and cross‐linking degree of collagen further increased, finally elevating the hardness and chewiness of CGC. This study laid a theoretical foundation for producing and supplying aquatic raw materials with different texture characteristics.

Modified guar gum and whey protein were used as raw materials for the preparation of a composite film. It was found that when the mass ratio of modified guar gum and whey protein was 1:0.6, the best mechanical properties, barrier properties, and thermal stability of the composite film were obtained; the tensile strength (TS) of the film was 39.92 MPa, the elongation at break was 31.13%, and the thermal decomposition temperature was 147.85 ℃. The composite film could effectively remedy the defects of the single-component films. In addition, the results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) indicated that the film was smooth and transparent, and the compatibility between modified guar gum and whey protein was good. A modified guar gum/whey protein/rutin composite film (G’/W-R) was prepared by adding rutin to the film. Addition of rutin was found to impart good antioxidant activity to the film. Meanwhile, when applying the composite film to Agaricus bisporus preservation, it was found that G’/W-R could effectively delay the browning of mushroom, maintain high hardness, and inhibit the respiratory rate; the peak respiratory rate was only 2.8 × 103 mL/(kg·h), and the overall mass loss rate was only 25% of the control group. Moreover, this treatment effectively suppressed the levels of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), superoxide anion radical and malondialdehyde (MDA), which was conducive to maintaining the integrity and stability of the cell membrane. Also, it terminated the free radical chain reaction, maintained the activities of peroxidase (POD), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), removed the excess reactive oxygen species (ROS) in mushroom tissues, and consequently the shelf life of mushroom.

Coronary restenosis is an important cause of poor long-term prognosis in patients with coronary heart disease. Here, we show that lysine methyltransferase SMYD2 expression in the nucleus is significantly elevated in serum- and PDGF-BB-induced vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), and in tissues of carotid artery injury-induced neointimal hyperplasia. Smyd2 overexpression in VSMCs (Smyd2-vTg) facilitates, but treatment with its specific inhibitor LLY-507 or SMYD2 knockdown significantly inhibits VSMC phenotypic switching and carotid artery injury-induced neointima formation in mice. Transcriptome sequencing revealed that SMYD2 knockdown represses the expression of serum response factor (SRF) target genes and that SRF overexpression largely reverses the inhibitory effect of SMYD2 knockdown on VSMC proliferation. HDAC3 directly interacts with and deacetylates SRF, which enhances SRF transcriptional activity in VSMCs. Moreover, SMYD2 promotes HDAC3 expression via tri-methylation of H3K36 at its promoter. RGFP966, a specific inhibitor of HDAC3, not only counteracts the pro-proliferation effect of SMYD2 overexpression on VSMCs, but also inhibits carotid artery injury-induced neointima formation in mice. HDAC3 partially abolishes the inhibitory effect of SMYD2 knockdown on VSMC proliferation in a deacetylase activity-dependent manner. Our results reveal that the SMYD2-HDAC3-SRF axis constitutes a novel and critical epigenetic mechanism that regulates VSMC phenotypic switching and neointimal hyperplasia.

Abstract Background Ribosomal protein SA (RPSA) of human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs) can transfer from the cytosol to the cell surface and act as a receptor for some pathogens, including Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (SS2), a zoonotic pathogen causing meningitis in pigs and humans. We previously reported that SS2 virulence factor enolase (ENO) binds to RPSA on the cell surface of HBMECs and induces apoptosis. However, the mechanism that activates RPSA translocation to the cell surface and induces ENO-mediated HBMEC apoptosis is unclear. Results Here, we show that RPSA localization and condensation on the host cell surface depend on its internally disordered region (IDR). ENO binds to the IDR of RPSA and promotes its interaction with RPSA and vimentin (VIM), which is significantly suppressed after 1,6-Hexanediol (1,6-Hex, a widely used tool to disrupt phase separation) treatment, indicating that ENO incorporation and thus the concentration of RPSA/VIM complexes via co-condensation. Furthermore, increasing intracellular calcium ions (Ca2+) in response to SS2 infection further facilitates the liquid-like condensation of RPSA and aggravates ENO-induced HBMEC cell apoptosis. Conclusions Together, our study provides a previously underappreciated molecular mechanism illuminating that ENO-induced RPSA condensation activates the migration of RPSA to the bacterial cell surface and stimulates SS2-infected HBMEC death and, potentially, disease progression. This study offers a fresh avenue for investigation into the mechanism by which other harmful bacteria infect hosts via cell surfaces’ RPSA.

The Social–Environmental System (SES) framework is crucial in understanding the intricate interplay between human societies and their environmental contexts. Despite its significance, existing SES delineation methods often rely on subjective judgment and struggle with the non-linear, multi-scale nature of SES data, leading to challenges in effective resource management and policymaking. This research addresses these gaps by proposing a novel, reproducible framework for SES boundary delineation that integrates both vector and raster data, utilizing advanced spatial optimization techniques and dimension reduction algorithms like UMAP to manage the non-linear characteristics of SES. The framework also leverages the SKATER algorithm for precise regionalization, ensuring spatial continuity and compactness while allowing user control over region selection and data dimensions. Applied to the Rio Grande/Bravo Basin, this approach demonstrates the practical utility and computational efficiency of the proposed method, offering a scalable solution adaptable to various regions. While focusing on this transboundary area, the study underscores how its framework can be generalized globally for addressing socio-environmental challenges while maintaining flexibility to accommodate local and regional specificities. The framework’s reliance on open-source tools further enhances its accessibility and reproducibility, making it a valuable contribution to SES research and practical environmental management.

Uniform support from the surrounding soil is important for maintaining the stable operation of buried pipelines. For segmented prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP), localized soil voids around the joint due to leakage or engineering activities make the pipe unsupported partially and threaten its integrity and strength. In this paper, the impact of a localized soil void on a pipe joint is qualitatively assessed using a beam-on-elastic-spring approximation model. It further provides quantitative analysis through a nonlinear finite element (FE) model of PCCPs and the surrounding soil. The derived algebraic solutions indicate that a unilateral local void induces shear force and rotation at the joint, whereas shear force becomes negligible when the void spans the joint, leading to increased rotation. Moreover, the rotation angle shows a positive correlation with soil load and a negative correlation with pipe diameter. Numerical analysis reveals that void elongation along the pipe length has a more pronounced effect on structural response than void depth and angle. When the void length reaches 2.5 m, the maximum principal stress on the mortar layer of the PCCP increases approximately eight-fold compared to the scenario without voids. Due to the rigidity and safety factor of the PCCP, small voids in the bedding typically do not cause immediate pipe damage or joint leakage; however, they can significantly alter the stress distribution within both the pipe and surrounding soil. As the void develops, the soil may collapse and compromise support, leading to additional secondary disaster risks and potential threats to pipeline safety. This research emphasizes the importance of effective pipe-soil interactions and provides theoretical insights for developing repair strategies for PCCP.

In this paper, it is demonstrated that the AlGaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) based on silicon wafer exhibits excellent high-temperature performance. First, the output characteristics show that the ratio of on-resistance (RON) only reaches 1.55 when the working temperature increases from 25 °C to 150 °C. This increase in RON is caused by a reduction in optical phonon scattering-limited mobility (μOP) in the AlGaN material. Moreover, the device also displays great high-performance stability in that the variation of the threshold voltage (ΔVTH) is only 0.1 V, and the off-state leakage current (ID,off-state) is simply increased from 2.87 × 10−5 to 1.85 × 10−4 mA/mm, under the operating temperature variation from 25 °C to 200 °C. It is found that the two trap states are induced at high temperatures, and the trap state densities (DT) of 4.09 × 1012~5.95 × 1012 and 7.58 × 1012~1.53 × 1013 cm−2 eV−1 are located at ET in a range of 0.46~0.48 eV and 0.57~0.61 eV, respectively, which lead to the slight performance degeneration of AlGaN HEMT. Therefore, this work provides experimental and theoretical evidence of AlGaN HEMT for high-temperature applications, pushing the development of ultra-wide gap semiconductors greatly.

Background/Objectives: Meconopsis has long been used in traditional Tibetan medicine to treat various inflammatory and pain-related conditions. However, blue-flowered Meconopsis (M. betonicifolia) is becoming increasingly scarce due to overharvesting. As a potential alternative, yellow-flowered Meconopsis (M. integrifolia) shows promise but requires comprehensive characterization. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the anti-inflammatory potential of yellow- and blue-flowered Meconopsis species. Methods: Liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) techniques were used to analyze the chemical profiles of yellow- and blue-flowered Meconopsis. Putative targets of shared constituents were subjected to GO and disease enrichment analysis. The LPS-induced RAW264.7 macrophage model was employed to assess anti-inflammatory effects. Metabolomics was applied to gain mechanistic insights. Results: LC-MS revealed over 70% chemical similarity between species. Enrichment analysis associated targets with inflammation-related pathways. In macrophage assays, both species demonstrated dose-dependent antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities, with yellow Meconopsis exhibiting superior efficacy. Metabolomics showed modulation of key inflammatory metabolic pathways. Conclusions: This integrative study validated yellow-flowered Meconopsis as a credible alternative to its blue-flowered counterpart for anti-inflammatory applications. Metabolic profiling provided initial clues regarding their multi-targeted modes of action, highlighting their potential for sustainable utilization and biodiversity conservation.

ABSTRACT: Bovine mastitis is the most common and costly disease affecting dairy cattle throughout the world. Enterococcus faecalis is one of the environmental origin mastitis-causing pathogens. The treatment of bovine mastitis is primarily based on antibiotics. Due to the negative impact of developing antibiotic resistance and adverse effects on soil and water environments, the trend toward use of nonantibiotic treatments is increasing. Phages may represent a promising alternative treatment strategy. However, it is unknown whether phages have therapeutic effects on E. faecalis-induced mastitis. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the degree of protection conferred by a phage during murine mastitis caused by multidrug-resistant E. faecalis. Enterococcus faecalis was isolated from the milk of dairy cows with mastitis, and a phage was isolated using the E. faecalis isolates as hosts. The bactericidal ability of the phage against E. faecalis and the ability to prevent biofilm formation were determined in vitro. The therapeutic potential of the phage on murine mastitis was evaluated in vivo. We isolated 14 strains of E. faecalis from the milk of cows with mastitis, all of which exhibited multidrug resistance, and most (10/14) could form strong biofilms. Subsequently, a new phage (EF-N13) was isolated using the multidrug-resistant E. faecalis N13 (isolated from mastitic milk) as the host. The phage EF-N13 belongs to the family Myoviridae, which has short latent periods (5 min) and high bursts (284 pfu/cell). The genome of EF-N13 lacked bacterial virulence-, antibiotic resistance-, and lysogenesis-related genes. Furthermore, bacterial loading in the raw milk medium was significantly reduced by EF-N13 and was unaffected by potential IgG antibodies. In fact, EF-N13 could effectively prevent the formation of biofilm by multidrug-resistant E. faecalis. All of these characteristics suggest that EF-N13 has potential as mastitis therapy. In vivo, 1 × 105 cfu/gland of multidrug-resistant E. faecalis N13 resulted in mastitis development within 24 h. A single dose of phage EF-N13 (1 × 104, 1 × 105, or 1 × 106 pfu/gland) could significantly decrease bacterial counts in the mammary gland at 24 h postinfection. Histopathological observations demonstrated that treatment with phage EF-N13 effectively alleviated mammary gland inflammation and damage. This effect was confirmed by the lower levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-6, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-α in the mammary gland treated with phage EF-N13 compared with those treated with phosphate-buffered saline. Overall, the data underscored the potential of phage EF-N13 as an alternative therapy for bovine mastitis caused by multidrug-resistant E. faecalis.

Abstract The infrared (IR) absorption spectral data of 63 kinds of lubricating greases containing six different types of thickeners were obtained using the IR spectroscopy. The Kohonen neural network algorithm was used to identify the type of the lubricating grease. The results show that this machine learning method can effectively eliminate the interference fringes in the IR spectrum, and complete the feature selection and dimensionality reduction of the high-dimensional spectral data. The 63 kinds of greases exhibit spatial clustering under certain IR spectrum recognition spectral bands, which are linked to characteristic peaks of lubricating greases and improve the recognition accuracy of these greases. The model achieved recognition accuracy of 100.00%, 96.08%, 94.87%, 100.00%, and 87.50% for polyurea grease, calcium sulfonate composite grease, aluminum (Al)-based grease, bentonite grease, and lithium-based grease, respectively. Based on the different IR absorption spectrum bands produced by each kind of lubricating grease, the three-dimensional spatial distribution map of the lubricating grease drawn also verifies the accuracy of classification while recognizing the accuracy. This paper demonstrates fast recognition speed and high accuracy, proving that the Kohonen neural network algorithm has an efficient recognition ability for identifying the types of the lubricating grease.

Abstract With the widespread adoption of mobile multimedia devices, the deployment of compute-intensive inference tasks on edge and resource-constrained devices, particularly in the context of low-light text detection, remains a formidable challenge. Existing deep learning approaches have shown limited effectiveness in restoring images for extremely dark scenes. To address these limitations, this paper presents a novel cloud-based Low-light Attention Enhancement Generative Adversarial Network for unpaired text images (LAE-GAN) for the non-paired text image enhancement task in extremely low-light conditions. In the first stage, compressed low-light images are transmitted from edge devices to a cloud server for image enhancement. The LAE-GAN, an end-to-end network comprising a Zero-DCE and AGM-net generator, is designed with a global and local discriminator structure. The initial illumination restoration of extremely low-light images is accomplished using the Zero-DCE network. To enhance text details, we propose an Enhanced Text Attention Mechanism (ETAM) that transforms text information into a comprehensive text attention mechanism across the entire network. The Sobel operator is employed to extract text edge information, while attention is focused on text region details through constraints imposed on the attention map and edge map. Additionally, an AGM-Net module is integrated to reduce noise and fine-tune illumination. In the second stage, the cloud server makes decisions based on user requirements and processes requests in parallel, scaling with the quantity of requests. In the third stage, the enhanced results are transmitted back to edge devices for text detection. Experimental results on widely used LOL and SID low-light datasets demonstrate significant improvements in both quantitative and qualitative analysis, surpassing state-of-the-art enhancement methods in terms of image restoration and text detection.

Abstract Background Diabetes is a metabolic disorder usually caused by insufficient secretion of insulin from the pancreas or insensitivity of cells to insulin, resulting in long-term elevated blood sugar levels in patients. Patients usually present with frequent urination, thirst, and hunger. If left untreated, it can lead to various complications that can affect essential organs and even endanger life. Therefore, developing an intelligent diagnosis framework for diabetes is necessary. Result This paper proposes a machine learning-based diabetes classification framework machine learning optimized GAN. The framework encompasses several methodological approaches to address the diverse challenges encountered during the analysis. These approaches encompass the implementation of the mean and median joint filling method for handling missing values, the application of the cap method for outlier processing, and the utilization of SMOTEENN to mitigate sample imbalance. Additionally, the framework incorporates the employment of the proposed Diabetes Classification Model based on Generative Adversarial Network and employs logistic regression for detailed feature analysis. The effectiveness of the framework is evaluated using both the PIMA dataset and the diabetes dataset obtained from the GEO database. The experimental findings showcase our model achieved exceptional results, including a binary classification accuracy of 96.27%, tertiary classification accuracy of 99.31%, precision and f1 score of 0.9698, recall of 0.9698, and an AUC of 0.9702. Conclusion The experimental results show that the framework proposed in this paper can accurately classify diabetes and provide new ideas for intelligent diagnosis of diabetes.

In this study, Cu-2.7Ti-0.2Fe (CT-0.2Fe) and Cu-2.7Ti–1Fe (CT-1Fe) alloys were fabricated and underwent multi-stage thermomechanical treatment, and the microstructure and properties evolution of the alloys during aging were investigated. After aging for 60 h at 350 °C, the CT-0.2Fe and CT-1Fe alloys exhibited the yield strength of 1068/935 MPa, tensile strength of 1127/1057 MPa, elongation of 2.54%/2.21%, and electrical conductivity of 20.3/26.4 %IACS, respectively. The relatively higher electrical conductivity of CT-1Fe was primarily attributed to the formation of numerous TiFe particles. Typical modulated structure and β′-Cu4Ti precipitates formed during direct aging in both alloys. However, in the CT-1Fe alloy, the growth of β′-Cu4Ti precipitates was suppressed. During multi-stage thermomechanical treatment, the interaction of the dislocations and precipitates was enhanced, retarding the softening effects of the alloy at the elevated temperatures. The calculation results showed that work hardening and precipitation strengthening significantly contributed to enhancing the mechanical properties of the alloys.

Abstract Structural topology optimization has gained widespread attention due to more possibilities of innovative structural design. The current research focus/hotspots, application areas, main research scholars, institutions and the countries involved in structural topology optimization are visually presented through clustering and visual analysis based on CiteSpace. The four metric dimensions of the literatures in this paper are as follows: annual quantity of papers and core countries, core authors and co-authors’ institutions, hotspots and burst terms, and the highly co-cited papers. The results show the research hotspots in this field are concentrated on keywords such as "level set method", "sensitivity analysis", "homogenization", "genetic algorithm", etc. Regarding the research frontier, “moving morphable component (MMC)”, “additive manufacturing (AM)” and “deep learning” are hot topics. In addition, Y. Sui, Z. Kang and O. Sigmund, etc. have high publications. M. Bendsøe and O. Sigmund have high citations. Dalian University of Technology, Technical University of Denmark, etc. are prominent institutions. Moreover, China accounts for more than 34% in the terms of original WOS literatures following by the USA and Australia. Abstract Background The major safety concern of the clinical application of wild type FGF19 (FGF19WT) emerges given that its extended treatment causes hepatocellular carcinoma. Therefore, we previously generated a safer FGF19 variant - FGF19ΔKLB, which have same effects on glycemic control and bile acid production but much less mitogenic activity. However, it remains unclear as to whether FGF19ΔKLB ameliorates intrahepatic cholestasis. Results We found that, similar to that of FGF19WT, the chronic administration of FGF19ΔKLB protects mice from cholestatic liver injury in these two models. The therapeutic benefits of FGF19ΔKLB on cholestatic liver damage are attributable, according to the following mechanistic investigation, to the reduction of BA production, liver inflammation, and fibrosis. More importantly, FGF19ΔKLB did not induce any tumorigenesis effects during its prolonged treatment. Conclusions Together, our findings raise hope that FGF19ΔKLB may represent a useful therapeutic strategy for the treatment of intrahepatic cholestasis.

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), serving as a versatile platform compound bridging biomass resource and the fine chemicals industry, holds significant importance in biomass conversion processes. The electrooxidation of HMF plays a crucial role in yielding the valuable product (2,5-furandicarboxylic acid), which finds important applications in antimicrobial agents, pharmaceutical intermediates, polyester synthesis, and so on. Defect engineering stands as one of the most effective strategies for precisely synthesizing electrocatalytic materials, which could tune the electronic structure and coordination environment, and further altering the adsorption energy of HMF intermediate species, consequently increasing the kinetics of HMF electrooxidation. Thereinto, the most routine and effective defect are the anionic vacancies and cationic vacancies. In this concise review, the catalytic reaction mechanism for selective HMF oxidation is first elucidated, with a focus on the synthesis strategies involving both anionic and cationic vacancies. Recent advancements in various catalytic oxidation systems for HMF are summarized and synthesized from this perspective. Finally, the future research prospects for selective HMF oxidation are discussed.

Background: Azvudine was approved for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in China and has been widely used since the outbreak in December 2022. However, real-world research on the adherence of Azvudine is lacking. Additionally, limited research exists on determining the optimal duration for Azvudine treatment. Methods: We studied adult patients with COVID-19 who got Azvudine or supportive treatment at an outpatient department between December 19, 2022 and January 5, 2023. The enrolled patients were divided into two groups: the Azvudine group, which received Azvudine, and the control group, which only received supportive care. We recorded their information and analyzed it using descriptive statistics. The primary outcome of this study was the compliance of outpatients with Azvudine, and the secondary outcome of this study was the optimal duration of Azvudine. Inverse probability weighting (IPW) was used to address the imbalance between groups when comparing the optimal duration of Azvudine, and Cox regression to evaluate the effect of Azvudine on the 28-day disease progression rate. Results: We enrolled a total of 882 patients, of which 382 received Azvudine. Among the patients, 94.0 % (359) had good compliance, and non-compliance was primarily attributed to dosage errors. Azvudine appeared to have a beneficial therapeutic effect when administered for at least 7 days. Conclusions: Outpatients have relatively good compliance with Azvudine, and optimal therapeutic effects were observed with the recommended duration of at least 7 days.

Lung metastasis of breast cancer is rapidly becoming a thorny problem in the treatment of patients with breast cancer and an obstacle to long-term survival. The main challenges of treatment are the absence of therapeutic targets and drug resistance, which promotes the development of nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment process. Taking advantage of the controllability and targeting of nanotechnology, drug-targeted delivery, controlled sustained release, multi-drug combination, improved drug efficacy, and reduced side effects can be realized in the process of the diagnosis and treatment of metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Several nanotechnology-based theranostic strategies have been investigated in breast cancer lung metastases (BCLM): targeted drug delivery, imaging analysis, immunotherapy, gene therapy, and multi-modality combined therapy, and some clinical applications are in the research phase. In this review, we present current nanotechnology-based diagnosis and treatment approaches for patients of incurable breast cancer with lung metastases, and we hope to be able to summarize more effective and promising nano-drug diagnosis and treatment systems that aim to improve the survival of patients with advanced MBC. We describe nanoplatform-based experimental studies and clinical trials targeting the tumor and the tumor microenvironment (TME) for BCLM to obtain more targeted treatment and in the future treatment steps for patients to provide a pioneering strategy.

Background: Primary liver cancer (PLC) is a prevalent malignancy of the digestive system characterized by insidious symptom onset and a generally poor prognosis. Recent studies have highlighted a significant correlation between the initiation and prognosis of liver cancer and the immune function of PLC patients. Purpose: Revealing the expression of PLC-related immune genes and the characteristics of immune cell infiltration provides assistance for the analysis of clinical pathological parameters and prognosis of PLC patients. Methods: PLC-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) with a median absolute deviation (MAD > 0.5) were identified from TCGA and GEO databases. These DEGs were intersected with immune-related genes (IRGs) from the ImmPort database to obtain PLC-related IRGs. The method of constructing a prognostic model through immune-related gene pairs (IRGPs) is used to obtain IRGPs and conduct the selection of central immune genes. The central immune genes obtained from the selection of IRGPs are validated in PLC. Subsequently, the relative proportions of 22 types of immune cells in different immune risk groups are evaluated, and the differential characteristics of PLC-related immune cells are verified through animal experiments. ABSTRACTRecently, Enterococcus has been shown to have gastric protective functions, and the mechanisms by which Enterococcus modulates gastric function are still being investigated. Herein, we investigated how Enterococcus faecium (Efm) and E. faecium-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) (EfmEVs) exert protective effect against ethanol-induced gastric injury by investigating the effect of EfmEVs on gastric mucosal ulcer scoring, histological lesion, mucosal glycoprotein production, acidity, anti-oxidative function, and inflammatory responses in rat. Pretreatment with Efm showed significant reduction of ethanol-induced gastric injury, as evidenced by the lowering of ulcer index, histological lesion, gastric pH, and inflammatory responses and the enhancement of mucosal glycoprotein production and anti-oxidative function. Further functional studies on three bioactive components [inactivated Efm, EfmEVs (EVs), and EV-free supernatants] of the bacterial culture showed that EVs are mostly responsible for the gastroprotective effect. Moreover, EV secretion is beneficial for the gastroprotective effect of Efm. Hence, EVs mediated the protective effect of Efm against ethanol-induced gastric injury by lowering inflammatory responses and enhancing anti-oxidative function and may be a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative strategy to alleviate hyperinflammatory gastrointestinal tract conditions.IMPORTANCEThis study indicated that Enterococcus faecium provided a protective effect against rat gastric injury, which involved improvement of the mucosal glycoprotein production, anti-oxidative function, and inflammatory responses. Furthermore, we confirmed that three bioactive components (inactivated Efm, extracellular vesicles, and EV-free supernatants) of E. faecium culture also contributed to the gastroprotective effect. Importantly, E. faecium-derived EVs showed an effective impact for the gastroprotective effect.

Regionalization has emerged as a crucial research area for the past 50 years, including aggregating smaller areas into larger, contiguous, and/or homogeneous regions. Spatial optimization techniques are advantageous for solving regionalization problems, yet their nondeterministic polynomial-time (NP) hard nature leads to computational complexity and time consumption, especially with extensive datasets. Although regionalization studies play a pivotal role in defining boundaries for multi-scalar analysis and modeling complex socio-environmental systems (SES), current approaches lack integrated consideration of raster and vector data. We introduce a unified, structured framework integrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS), image segmentation, and regionalization to identify and characterize socio-environmental units accounting for various data models and types. We use a public geodatabase of the Rio Grande/Bravo basin, an SES covering diverse cultures, ecosystems, and economies, to demonstrate the functionality of our newly developed method, which effectively identifies spatial units for subsequent SES analysis and modeling. The delineation process accounts for various factors, including administrative boundaries, estimated total quantities, compactness, spatial contiguity, and similarity in socio-environmental characteristics. To make this work reproducible, replicable, and expandable, we developed the approach entirely based on open-source Python packages. Our method is easily transferable to other research using various data formats and spatial scales to delineate spatial unit boundaries effectively and efficiently.

Engineered biomaterials play a crucial role in the construction industry. The study and development of engineered biomaterials with high-strength are necessary to fulfill the construction requirements for medium and high-rise buildings and long-span bridges. Further promoting the localization of high-strength engineered biomaterials is crucial in terms of reducing CO2 emissions, effectively utilizing land resources, and taking into account the unique structure of forest resources in China. The goal of this modification is to satisfy the rising demand for eco-friendly living spaces.
