Objective: To systematically review the efficacy and safety of nonsteroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) in chronic kidney disease (CKD).Methods: We systematically searched six databases to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) about nonsteroidal MRAs for CKD, from inception to 22 August 2023. Two reviewers independently screened the retrieved articles, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias of included RCTs using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. We then conducted meta-analysis of the data using Stata 17.0 software.Results: 11 RCTs (n = 15,817) were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with placebo, nonsteroidal MRAs significantly reduced the proportion of patients with ≥40% decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) from baseline [RR = 0.85, 95% CI (0.78, 0.92), p < 0.001], although the magnitude of eGFR reduction was greater [WMD = −2.83, 95% CI (−3.95, −1.72), p < 0.001]. The experimental group also had lower incidence of composite renal outcome [RR = 0.86, 95% CI (0.79, 0.93), p < 0.001] and greater reduction in urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) from baseline [WMD = −0.41, 95% CI (−0.49, −0.32), p < 0.001], as well as reduced cardiovascular events [RR = 0.88, 95% CI (0.80, 0.95), p = 0.003]. MRAs did not increase any adverse events compared to placebo [RR = 1.00, 95% CI (0.99, 1.01), p = 0.909], but had higher incidence of hyperkalemia [RR = 2.05, 95% CI (1.85, 2.280), p < 0.001]. Compared with eplerenone, there was no significant difference in the proportion of patients with ≥40% decline in eGFR [RR = 0.57, 95% CI (0.18, 1.79), p = 0.335] or hyperkalemia [RR = 0.95, 95%CI (0.48, 1.88), p = 0.875].Conclusion: Nonsteroidal MRAs can reduce the incidence of end-stage renal disease and cardiovascular adverse events in patients. Although there was still a risk of hyperkalemia compared to placebo, there was no significant difference in any adverse events compared to either placebo or eplerenone. It has become a new option for drug treatment of CKD patients, but more clinical trials are still needed to verify its efficacy and safety. Especially further direct comparison of the nonsteroidal MRAs to eplerenone in view of the relatively small number of patients reviewed are needed.

BackgroundRecent studies have revealed a significant decrease in serum fetuin-A levels in atherosclerotic aneurysms, indicating that fetuin-A may play a protective role in the progression of arterial calcification. However, the specific mechanism behind this phenomenon remains unclear. We aimed to examine the association between fetuin-A levels in thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs) and risk of TAAs and to evaluate whether this association was causal.MethodsA total of 26 SNPs were selected as instrumental variables for fetuin-A in 9,055 participants of European ancestry from the CHARGE consortium, and their effects on thoracic aortic aneurysm and decreased descending thoracic aortic diameter were separately estimated in 353,049 and 39,688 individuals from FinnGen consortium. We used two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to examine the causal association. At the same time, we employed various methods, including random-effects inverse variance weighting, weighted median, MR Egger regression, and MR PRESSO, to ensure the robustness of causal effects. We assessed heterogeneity using Cochran’s Q value and examined horizontal pleiotropy through MR Egger regression and retention analysis.ResultsFetuin-A level was associated with a significantly decreasing risk of thoracic aortic aneurysm (odds ratio (OR) 0.64, 95% CI 0.47 - 0.87, P = 0.0044). Genetically predicted fetuin-A was also correlated with the decreased descending thoracic aortic diameter (β = -0.086, standard error (SE) 0.036, P = 0.017).ConclusionsSerum fetuin-A level was negatively associated with risk of TTAs and correlated with the decreased descending thoracic aortic diameter. Mendelian randomization provides support for the potential causal relationship between fetuin-A and thoracic aortic aneurysm.

The intestine is the largest mechanosensitive organ in the human body whose epithelial cells, smooth muscle cells, neurons and enteroendocrine cells must sense and respond to various mechanical stimuli such as motility, distension, stretch and shear to regulate physiological processes including digestion, absorption, secretion, motility and immunity. Piezo channels are a newly discovered class of mechanosensitive ion channels consisting of two subtypes, Piezo1 and Piezo2. Piezo channels are widely expressed in the intestine and are involved in physiological and pathological processes. The present review summarizes the current research progress on the expression, function and regulation of Piezo channels in the intestine, with the aim of providing a reference for the future development of therapeutic strategies targeting Piezo channels.

Summary: Fenton or Fenton-like reactions have been widely used in various fields, including solar energy conversion to generate hydroxyl radicals, environmental remediation, biology, and life science. However, the slow Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle and narrow applicable pH range still present significant challenges. Here, a heterostructured CoFe-layered double hydroxide/MoS2 nanocomposite (CoFe-LDH/MoS2) was prepared via simple electrostatic interactions. The heterostructure establishes a robust interfacial contact, leading to an abundance of exposed Mo6+ sites. Consequently, the developed CoFe-LDH/MoS2+H2O2 system exhibited superior performance in the degradation of tetracycline (>85%) within 60 min across a wide pH range from acidic to basic. Moreover, the CoFe-LDH/MoS2 heterojunction catalysts exhibited exceptional resistance to common anions and efficiently degraded various organic pollutants. The mechanism study verified that the CoFe-LDH/MoS2 had high efficiency in producing 1O2 and ‧OH to degrade various organic pollutants. The present study will serve as a foundation for creating efficient catalyst systems for related environmental remediation.

Amylopectin and amylose components are natural polymers within rice starch granules, intertwined in specific conditions to form gel polymerized with pore crosslink network, has potential printing properties. In this study, a rice starch gel preparation scheme is proposed for stable properties, and starch granule phase transition mechanism is analyzed based on RVA test during preparation, it can be divided into four-stage, swelling, reacting, homogenizing and self-assembling stages. Gel surface tension and contact angle tested with starch concentration effect, a correlation is developed, reflecting a competition result to gel droplet macro-morphology between the intermolecular cohesion and crosslink network. SEM is used to reveal typical crosslink structures of different starch molecular component proportions, providing objective support for starch gel rheologic property change. Results indicate gel interior crosslink network formed under concentration 12 %, the gel with amylose 4.475 % presents better printing accuracy. Gel shear modulus positively correlated with amylose proportion. Japonica gel under 20 % is of higher viscosity and rapid reassembly ability after interior crosslink network is broken. Max dynamic viscosity is positively correlated with starch concentration. The study aims to provide theoretical and practical support for in-depth analysis of rice starch material application in direct-write 3D printing.

IntroductionGranulomas, the pathological hallmark of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection, are formed by different cell populations. Across various stages of tuberculosis conditions, most granulomas are classical caseous granulomas. They are composed of a necrotic center surrounded by multilayers of histocytes, with the outermost layer encircled by fibrosis. Although fibrosis characterizes the architecture of granulomas, little is known about the detailed parameters of fibrosis during this process.MethodsIn this study, samples were collected from patients with tuberculosis (spanning 16 organ types), and Mtb-infected marmosets and fibrotic collagen were characterized by second harmonic generation (SHG)/two-photon excited fluorescence (TPEF) microscopy using a stain-free, fully automated analysis program.ResultsHistopathological examination revealed that most granulomas share common features, including necrosis, solitary and compact structure, and especially the presence of multinuclear giant cells. Masson’s trichrome staining showed that different granuloma types have varying degrees of fibrosis. SHG imaging uncovered a higher proportion (4%~13%) of aggregated collagens than of disseminated type collagens (2%~5%) in granulomas from matched tissues. Furthermore, most of the aggregated collagen presented as short and thick clusters (200~620 µm), unlike the long and thick (200~300 µm) disseminated collagens within the matched tissues. Matrix metalloproteinase-9, which is involved in fibrosis and granuloma formation, was strongly expressed in the granulomas in different tissues.DiscussionOur data illustrated that different tuberculosis granulomas have some degree of fibrosis in which collagen strings are short and thick. Moreover, this study revealed that the SHG imaging program could contribute to uncovering the fibrosis characteristics of tuberculosis granulomas.

Summary: Background: Molecular diagnosis is crucial for biomarker-assisted glioma resection and management. However, some limitations of current molecular diagnostic techniques prevent their widespread use intraoperatively. With the unique advantages of ultrasound, this study developed a rapid intraoperative molecular diagnostic method based on ultrasound radio-frequency signals. Methods: We built a brain tumor ultrasound bank with 169 cases enrolled since July 2020, of which 43483 RF signal patches from 67 cases with a pathological diagnosis of glioma were a retrospective cohort for model training and validation. IDH1 and TERT promoter (TERTp) mutations and 1p/19q co-deletion were detected by next-generation sequencing. We designed a spatial–temporal integration model (STIM) to diagnose the three molecular biomarkers, thus establishing a rapid intraoperative molecular diagnostic system for glioma, and further analysed its consistency with the fifth edition of the WHO Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System (WHO CNS5). We tested STIM in 16-case prospective cohorts, which contained a total of 10384 RF signal patches. Two other RF-based classical models were used for comparison. Further, we included 20 cases additional prospective data for robustness test (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05656053). Findings: In the retrospective cohort, STIM achieved a mean accuracy and AUC of 0.9190 and 0.9650 (95% CI, 0.94–0.99) respectively for the three molecular biomarkers, with a total time of 3 s and a 96% match to WHO CNS5. In the prospective cohort, the diagnostic accuracy of STIM is 0.85 ± 0.04 (mean ± SD) for IDH1, 0.84 ± 0.05 for TERTp, and 0.88 ± 0.04 for 1p/19q. The AUC is 0.89 ± 0.02 (95% CI, 0.84–0.94) for IDH1, 0.80 ± 0.04 (95% CI, 0.71–0.89) for TERTp, and 0.85 ± 0.06 (95% CI, 0.73–0.98) for 1p/19q. Compared to the second best available method based on RF signal, the diagnostic accuracy of STIM is improved by 16.70% and the AUC is improved by 19.23% on average. Interpretation: STIM is a rapid, cost-effective, and easy-to-manipulate AI method to perform real-time intraoperative molecular diagnosis. In the future, it may help neurosurgeons designate personalized surgical plans and predict survival outcomes. PurposeTo examine whether body fat rate (BF%) is associated with cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and whether cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) mediates the association between BF% and Executive function (EF) in young adults.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, 226 college students were recruited from an university. Flanker, 2-back, and odder and shifting tasks were used to assess EF. The incremental cardiopulmonary exercise tests were performed, and maximal oxygen consumption was recorded during test. The body composition measuring instrument was used to evaluate the participants’ BF%.ResultsThe BF% of college students was negatively correlated with each EF, BF% was negatively correlated with CRF, and CRF was negatively correlated with EF (P< 0.001). Structural equation modeling (SEM) and simultaneous analysis of several groups were used to construct mediator model. The CRF of college students plays a partial mediating role between BF% and EF, and the mediating effect accounts for 48.8% of the total effect value. Sex has no moderate effect on the relationship between BF%, CRF, and EF.ConclusionsCollege students with high BF% can improve their CRF by strengthening physical exercise, thereby indirectly improving their EF. Therefore, college students who have a higher body fat percentage should be compensated for engaging in physical exercise in order to enhance their CRF and mitigate the detrimental effects of obesity and overweight on EF.

ABSTRACTIt is known to all that Wnt signaling pathway plays an important role in the early development of tooth. Our previous research found that Wnt signaling pathway played crucial roles in dental development, and mutations in antagonist of Wnt signaling pathway may lead to the formation of supernumerary teeth. However, the expression pattern of Wnt signaling molecules in early development of tooth, especially genes with stage specificity, remains unclear. Hence, we applied RNA-seq analysis to determine the expression levels of wnt signal molecules at five different stages of rat first molar tooth germ. In addition, after literature review we summarized the function of Wnt signaling molecules during tooth development and the relationship between Wnt signaling molecules variation and tooth agenesis. Our research may have implications for exploring the role of Wnt signaling molecules in different stages of tooth development.

Abstract：: Fog seal technology has the advantages of convenient construction and rapid opening traffic, and it has a broad application prospect in the maintenance of airport asphalt pavement. However, the current evaluation indices of fog seal materials are not relevant enough to reflect their performance strengths and weaknesses comprehensively and systematically. Moreover, there is a lack of research on the non-emulsification class of fog seal materials. This research aims to compare and contrast various types of fog seal materials for airport asphalt pavement and provide suggestions for optimizing the fog seal materials and construction technology to achieve better results. This research tested the material, construction, and road performance of three fog seal materials: A, B, and C. Materials A and B are emulsified asphalt as matrix additive fog sealer, while material C is a special material fog sealer. The content of evaporation residue, surface curing performance, and rejuvenation performance test were optimized. The adhesion performance test was redesigned. Furthermore, the research performed a horizontal comparison of the material properties, construction performance, and road performance of the three kinds of fog seal materials. The key test methods and evaluation indices of fog seal were recommended by using statistical methods and discrimination analysis. The results showed that the emulsified asphalt as matrix additive fog sealer had a high content of evaporation residue and poor adhesion performance under low-temperature conditions, with a spalling ratio of over 75%. However, they had better adhesion performance with the aggregate under high-temperature conditions. The special material fog sealer had a low content of evaporation residue and excellent adhesion performance under low-temperature conditions, with a spalling ratio of nearly 0%. It also had the shortest surface curing time among the three materials. The special material fog seal has better comprehensive performance and better application prospects. According to the results of discrimination analysis, evaporation residue content, residue on sieve, and water dilution stability were recommended as evaluation indices of material performance. Adhesion of the material surface at the construction site and changes in material quality at 20 °C in the laboratory were recommended as evaluation indices of the surface curing performance. Adhesion (impact method) − 10 °C and adhesion (boiling method) amount of sticky sand were recommended as evaluation indices of road performance. This research aims to provide guidance for the optimization of fog seal material and construction technology of airport asphalt pavement.

ABSTRACTMalignant pleural effusion (MPE) is a functional ‘cold’ tumor microenvironment in which the antitumor activity of CD8+ T cells and natural killer T (NKT)-like cells is suppressed and the function of regulatory T (Treg) cells is enhanced. Using flow cytometry and immunofluorescence staining, we detected a distinct subset of NKT-like cells expressing FOXP3 in MPE. Through single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis, we found that the glycolysis pathway and pyruvate metabolism were highly activated in FOXP3+ NKT-like cells. Similar to Treg cells, FOXP3+ NKT-like cells highly expressed monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1) and lactate dehydrogenase B to uptake and utilize lactate, thereby maintaining their immunosuppressive function and hyperlactylation in MPE. Furthermore, we found that MCT1 small molecule inhibitor 7ACC2 significantly reduced FOXP3 expression and histone lactylation levels in NKT-like cells in vitro. In conclusion, we reveal for the first time the altered phenotypic and metabolic features of FOXP3+ NKT-like cells in human MPE.

ABSTRACTEpithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecological cancer, which remains a threat to female health at all ages. Hypotheses for EOC development include the continuous presence of inflammation, in which microbiota and inflammatory cytokines participate in cancer-related signaling pathway activation. Hedgehog (Hh) signaling is prominent for EOC progression, and interacts with inflammation response related to gut microbiota (GM). However, the precise roles of GM during this process are unknown. Here, we showed that the GM from patients with EOC differed from that of healthy women and had GM dysbiosis. We found that EOC modeling may lead to GM changes in mice, and it restored after the administration of GM from healthy controls, while GM from patients with EOC further exacerbated GM dysbiosis. Furthermore, we found that GM from EOC markedly promoted tumor progression and activated Hh signaling; meanwhile, it increased the extent of inflammation and activated NF-κB signaling, but GM from healthy controls improved them. Our results demonstrate how GM dysbiosis promoted EOC progression by activating Hh signaling mediated by TLR4/NF-κB signaling. We anticipate our assay to be a new thought for exploring the role of GM in EOC development. Furthermore, improving GM dysbiosis is a novel therapeutic approach for delaying EOC development.

Friction stir processing (FSP) with high rotating speed were successfully employed to fabricate a novel AZ31 magnesium matrix composites (MMCs) reinforced by biological particles of nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) and nano-magnesium oxide (nMgO). The influences of tool rotating speed on the microstructure evolution, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of MMCs were investigated. In results, high rotating speed not only significantly refined the grains of the stirred zone (SZ) in MMCs due to sufficient dynamic recrystallization (DRX), but also reduced the size of β-Al12Mg17 precipitates and caused them homogeneously distributed. With the increase of rotating speed, the bio-reinforced particles exhibited a larger range with uniform distribution in SZ of MMCs, and the microhardness, tensile strength and corrosion resistance of MMCs were also improved. At high rotating speed of 6000 rpm, MMCs had a maximum tensile strength of 235.5 MPa with cleavage fracture of ductile-brittle mixed mode. Meanwhile, the self-corrosion potential of MMCs (−1.408 V) was 10.4% higher than the matrix (−1.571 V), while the self-corrosion current density (9.328 × 10−5 A/cm2) was 96.4% much lower than the matrix (2.607 × 10−3 A/cm2), indicating that the corrosion resistance of MMCs was significantly enhanced than matrix. And the corrosion morphologies of MMCs presented mud cracking due to relatively uniform corrosion.

Abstract Hypertension is a significant risk factor of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) with high prevalence worldwide, the current treatment has multiple adverse effects and requires continuous administration. The glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor (GLP‐1R) agonists have shown great potential in treating diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative diseases, obesity and hypertension. Butyric acid is a potential target in treating hypertension. Yet, the application of GLP‐1 analogue and butyric acid in reducing blood pressure and reversing ventricular hypertrophy remains untapped. In this study, we combined the therapeutic capability of GLP‐1 and butyric acid by transforming Clostridium butyricum (CB) with recombinant plasmid pMTL007 encoded with hGLP gene to construct the engineered probiotics Clostridium butyricum‐pMTL007‐GLP‐1 (CB‐GLP‐1). We used spontaneous hypertensive rat (SHR) models to evaluate the positive effect of this strain in treating hypertension. The results revealed that the intragastric administration of CB‐GLP‐1 had markedly reduced blood pressure and improved cardiac marker ACE2, AT2R, AT1R, ANP, BNP, β‐MHC, α‐SMA and activating AMPK/mTOR/p70S6K/4EBP1 signalling pathway. The high‐throughput sequencing further demonstrated that CB‐GLP‐1 treatments significantly improved the dysbiosis in the SHR rats via downregulating the relative abundance of Porphyromonadaceae at the family level and upregulating Lactobacillus at the genus level. Hence, we concluded that the CB‐GLP‐1 greatly improves blood pressure and cardiomegaly by restoring the gut microbiome and reducing ventricular hypertrophy in rat models. This is the first time using engineered CB in treating hypertension, which provides a new idea for the clinical treatment of hypertension.

Increasing evidence indicates that inflammatory cytokines are involved in the pathogenesis of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). A wide range of over ten cytokines in peripheral blood of RAS patients have been investigated in different studies. Yet, which of the ones are the most prominent indicators contributed for the process of RAS are uncertain. Herein, a total of 16 eligible case–control studies including 1051 cases of RAS and 616 health controls were summarized. The bubble chart analysis showed that the most prominent cytokines for RAS were interleukin (IL)-6 (646 cases, 308 controls), TNF-α (498 cases, 298 controls), and IL-2 (371 cases, 264 controls). On the other hand, 9 studies on cytokines as therapeutic indicators of RAS were identified. The effect of levamisole and thalidomide on cytokines mainly were IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-8. Collectively, an optimum panel of IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-2 maybe serve as the potential significant indicators for RAS investigations.

The response of dryland vegetation to climate change is particularly sensitive in the context of global climate change. This paper analyzes the characteristics of spatial and temporal dynamics of vegetation cover in the Tarim River Basin, China, and its driving factors in order to investigate the response of vegetation growth to water storage changes in the basin. The Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), the GRACE gravity satellite, and meteorological data from 2002 to 2022 are used to decipher the characteristics of the response of water storage changes to vegetation changes, which is of great significance to the realization of regional ecological development and sustainable development. The results of the study show the following: (1) The vegetation in the Tarim River Basin has an overall increasing trend, which is mainly distributed in the Aksu Basin and the Weigangkuche River Basin and is spatially distributed in the form of a ring. (2) Vegetation distribution greatly improved during the 20-year study period, dominated by high-cover vegetation, with a change rate of 200.36%. Additionally, vegetation changes are centered on the watersheds and expand to the surrounding area, with a clear increase in vegetation in the Kumukuri Basin. Areas with a vegetation Hurst index of

The high prevalence of constipation after fracture surgery brings intolerable discomfort to patients on the one hand, and affects post-surgery nutrient absorption on the other hand, resulting in poor prognosis. Given the acknowledged probiotic properties of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, 100 fracture patients with post-surgery constipation were centrally enrolled and administered orally with L. rhamnosus JYLR-127 to assess the efficacy of probiotic-adjuvant therapy in alleviating post-fracture constipation symptoms. The results showed that L. rhamnosus JYLR-127 improved fecal properties, promoted gastrointestinal recovery, and relieved constipation symptoms, which were mainly achieved by elevating Firmicutes (p < 0.01) and descending Bacteroidetes (p < 0.001), hence remodeling the disrupted intestinal microecology. In addition, blood routine presented a decrease in C-reactive protein levels (p < 0.05) and an increase in platelet counts (p < 0.05) after probiotic supplementation, prompting the feasibility of L. rhamnosus JYLR-127 in anti-inflammation, anti-infection and hemorrhagic tendency prevention after fracture surgery. Our study to apply probiotics in ameliorating constipation after fracture surgery is expected to bless the bothered patients, and provide broader application scenarios for L. rhamnosus preparations.

The accelerated urbanization taking place across Xinjiang in recent years has vastly improved the quality of life for people living in the region. However, to achieve rational urban growth and sustainable regional development, a deeper understanding of the spatial and temporal patterns, spatial morphology, and driving factors of urban sprawl is crucial. Nighttime light (NTL) data provide a novel approach for studying the spatial and temporal changes in urban expansion. In this study, based on DMSP-OLS and NPP-VIIRS data, we analyze the spatiotemporal characteristics of urban changes using the standard deviation ellipse and employ the geographical detector to analyze the impact of natural environmental and socioeconomic factors on the dynamic rate of urban expansion. The results reveal the following. (1) The overall accuracy of urban area extraction is above 80%, and the urban area of Xinjiang has expanded about 9.1 times over the past 30 years. Further, the growth rate from 2007 to 2017 exceeds the growth rate from 1992 to 1997, with the center of gravity of urban development shifting to the southwest. (2) The 5a sliding average temperature and average annual precipitation in the study area in 1992–2022 are 6.08 °C and 169.72 mm, respectively, showing a decrease in the urbanization rate followed by an increase, due to a rise in temperature and precipitation levels. (3) By combining the results of geographical detector factor detection and interaction detection, precipitation is determined to be the main controlling factor, while air temperature and GDP are secondary factors. This study presents new findings on the correlation between urban spatial and temporal changes and climate in Xinjiang, thus providing a scientific reference for future research on urban expansion and natural environment evolution.

Within the rapidly growing urban tourism industry, the development of urban landscapes plays a crucial role in shaping a city’s image and competitiveness; however, standardized and mismatched landscapes often have a negative impact, highlighting the importance of assessing urban landscape perceptions. Although existing studies have discussed this through subjective questionnaires and physiological methods, the underlying neural mechanisms have not been thoroughly explored. The research focuses on Jingdezhen, a renowned historical and cultural city in China, as its case study. Utilized the event-related potential (ERP) method to explore individuals’ perceptual consistency and neural activity toward different types of urban landscapes. We adopted a 2 (landscape type: historical, modern) X 2 (perceptual match: consistent, inconsistent) within-subject design while recording behavioral data and electrophysiological responses. The results showed that, under any condition, there were no significant differences in people’s behavioral data. Neurophysiological results indicate that consistent perceptions of modern landscapes elicited greater P200 responses, suggesting increased attention driven by visual aesthetics and emotional activation. Under conditions of perceptual inconsistency, historical landscapes elicited higher N400 amplitudes than modern landscapes, revealing cognitive conflict and effort. This study demonstrates that P200 and N400 components are effective indicators for assessing urban perception, proving the viability of the event-related potential method in urban landscape research. Additionally, the research reveals the neural mechanisms of urban environmental perception from the early stages of attention and emotional distribution to the later stages of cognitive decision-making, which involve cognitive processes from “bottom-up” to “top-down”. This study not only provides a reference for efficient design planning for those involved in urban science but also inspires the coordination between the developmental needs of historical and modern urban landscapes. Moreover, it offers a new perspective for an interdisciplinary approach to urban perception assessment.

Background: Abundant clinical evidences indicate that the increased risk of cerebral palsy (CP) may be associated with the intrauterine exposure to maternal infection. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common cause of CP. However, little is known about the relationship between the intrauterine exposure of the fetus to CMV infection and CP. This study aims to explore the relationships between intrauterine CMV infection and clinical symptoms, classification, intelligence development and brain neuroimaging findings in children with CP.Methods: In this study, 147 children with CP in recent 6 years were retrospectively analyzed (average age: 14.76 ± 3.07months; sex (M/F): 103/44). 148 children had CMV IgG and IgM positive sera identified by TORCH examination were selected as the control group (average age: 15.10 ± 3.21months; sex (M/F): 102/46), which also undergo the examination of CMV-DNA in urine. The age and sex of children in the control group were matched with those in the CP group. CMV-DNA in urine was detected by CMV fluorescence quantitative PCR, and t-test was performed to analyze the number of copies. For the CP group, standardized rehabilitation treatment was performed and the function of gross motor was evaluated by GMFM scale before and after treatment. The Gesell developmental scale (GDS) was used to assess the level of intellectual development. The classification of CP was conducted and the results of magnetic resonance imaging were analyzed. Finally, the correlations between the copy number of CMV-DNA and the clinical characteristics of children with CP were evaluated by the method of Pearson and Spearman correlation analysis.Results: The level of CMV infection was negatively correlated with the developmental quotient (DQ) of children with CP. Negative association was found between the level of CMV infection and the level of the gross motor development. The level of CMV infection was positively related with the occurrence probability of spastic quadriplegia. However, no associations were found between the abnormalities of brain tissue and the number of CMV copies. Moreover, CMV infection might add the difficulty of the rehabilitation treatment.Conclusions: CMV infection is a risk factor for the occurrence of CP in children. Pregnancy examination should be strengthened. Early detection and control of CMV infection may contribute to the rehabilitation of children with CP and reduce the disability and social burden. IntroductionDuring the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, wearing masks not only prevented transmission of the virus but also reduced social anxiety to some extent. With the end of the epidemic, the intention to wear masks to prevent transmission declined, but the effect of social anxiety on the intention to wear masks is unclear. The current study investigated the effects of social anxiety and fear of COVID-19 on mask-wearing intentions in the post-epidemic era, using self-identity, impression management and avoidance as mediating variables.MethodsIn total, 223 college students participated in the current study, and the related variables were measured using the social anxiety scale, the social behavior questionnaire, the self-identity questionnaire, and the mask-wearing intention questionnaire.ResultsThe results showed that social anxiety was significantly positively correlated with avoidance, impression management, and intention to wear masks, and significantly negatively correlated with self-identity. The fear of COVID-19, avoidance, and impression management were significantly positively correlated with mask-wearing intentions, while self-identity was significantly negatively correlated with mask-wearing intentions. Social anxiety affected college students’ intention to wear masks through three main pathways: the mediating role of avoidance, impression management, and the chain mediating role of self-identity and avoidance. The fear of COVID-19 directly and positively affected mask-wearing intentions.DiscussionThe current study reveals the differential pathways of the effects of COVID-19 fear and social anxiety on mask-wearing intentions in the post-COVID-19 era, and the findings have some practical implications for social anxiety interventions.

Abstract Background Ulcerative colitis, a typical subtype of inflammatory bowel disease, can cause many serious complications. Burdock fructooligosaccharide (BFO), a linear inulin with a purity of 99.439% and a molecular weight of 2345 Da, demonstrates anti‐inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. Methods The Kunming mice were divided into two experimental models: a normal pretreatment model and a colitis experimental model. During the experimental treatment period, we assessed changes in weight and disease activity index (DAI), quantified the intestinal index, and determined myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and reactive oxide species (ROS) levels in colitis mice. We also photographed colon morphology to investigate alterations in the integrity of the intestinal barrier function. Finally, we performed ELISA and qRT‐PCR to evaluate the anti‐inflammatory effect of BFO treatment on colitis mice. Result The long‐term oral administration of BFO alone exhibited protective effects by preventing disruption of the intestinal functional structure and increasing the colon index in mice. However, in a dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)‐induced colitis mouse model, BFO administration facilitated quick recovery of body weight and effectively reduced the DAI, especially in the BFO‐H group (500 mg/kg/day). BFO treatment maintained the integrity of the intestinal barrier by attenuating the crypt distortion and increasing the goblet cells count It restored the DSS‐induced colon shortening and reduced the symptoms of colitis. These effects may be attributed to the appropriate concentrations of BFO effectively inhibiting MPO activity, clearing excessive ROS, and relieving spleen abnormalitie. BFO also attenuated the overexpression and excessive secretion of inflammatory cytokines (TNF‐α, IL‐1β, IL‐6, and MCP‐1) induced by DSS, reduced intestinal inflammation, and consequently protected the intestinal barrier function. Conclusion BFO effectively alleviated the symptoms of DSS‐induced colitis by mediating anti‐inflammatory effects and protecting the intestinal barrier integrity, thereby potentially facilitating the utilization of safer and more efficacious polysaccharides for managing chronic inflammatory diseases.

N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) is a modification of cytidine at the nitrogen-4 position, playing a significant role in the translation process of mRNA. However, the precise mechanism and details of how ac4C modifies translated mRNA remain unclear. Since identifying ac4C sites using conventional experimental methods is both labor-intensive and time-consuming, there is an urgent need for a method that can promptly recognize ac4C sites. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive ensemble learning model, the Stacking-based heterogeneous integrated ac4C model, engineered explicitly to identify ac4C sites. This innovative model integrates three distinct feature extraction methodologies: Kmer, electron-ion interaction pseudo-potential values (PseEIIP), and pseudo-K-tuple nucleotide composition (PseKNC). The model also incorporates the robust Cluster Centroids algorithm to enhance its performance in dealing with imbalanced data and alleviate underfitting issues. Our independent testing experiments indicate that our proposed model improves the Mcc by 15.61% and the ROC by 5.97% compared to existing models. To test our model’s adaptability, we also utilized a balanced dataset assembled by the authors of iRNA-ac4C. Our model showed an increase in Sn of 4.1%, an increase in Acc of nearly 1%, and ROC improvement of 0.35% on this balanced dataset. This study aimed to explored the association between depressive symptoms and infertility among U.S. women, and the effect of serum calcium on this association. We used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013–2018), relating to women aged 20–45 years. Depressive symptoms were determined using the nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9 scores ≥10), and interview data were used to identify self-reported infertility. Of 2708 women (mean age: 32.7 ± 7.5 years), 274 were depressed and 12.0 % self-reported being “ever-infertile.” Depressive symptoms were associated with infertility in multivariable logistic regression (OR, 1.62; 95 % CI, 1.11–2.38). Depressive symptoms were associated with infertility among participants who were obese (OR, 1.68; 95 % CI, 1.03–2.74), had not received psychological counseling (OR, 1.60; 95 % CI, 1.03–2.50), were antidepressant users (OR 3.22; 95 % CI, 1.15–9.00), and had high serum calcium levels (OR, 2.05; 95 % CI, 1.25–3.35). A significant interaction between serum calcium and depression was observed for infertility (P = .038, interaction likelihood ratio test). In sensitivity analyses, the association between depressive symptoms and infertility remained after excluding women aged ≥35 years (OR, 1.87; 95 % CI, 1.08–3.23), lowering the cut-off for PHQ-9 scores (≥5) (OR, 1.48; 95 % CI, 1.12–1.96), excluding women with some gynecological diseases (OR, 1.63; 95 % CI, 1.07–2.49), and using inverse probability of treatment weighting (OR, 1.64; 95 % CI, 1.17–2.31). Conclusion: Our findings indicate that depression is associated with infertility among U.S. women and serum calcium may have an effect on the association. Interventions such as serum calcium reduction, weight management and psychosocial counseling for infertility treatment in individuals with depression may be integrated into routine clinical practice. Additionally, more caution could be exercised when using antidepressants.

Background and aimPrevious studies have reported an association between gut microbiota and cirrhosis. However, the causality between intestinal flora and liver cirrhosis still remains unclear. In this study, bi-directional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to ascertain the potential causal effect between gut microbes and cirrhosis.MethodsLarge-scale Genome Wide Association Study (GWAS) data of cirrhosis and gut microbes were obtained from FinnGen, Mibiogen consortium, and a GWAS meta-analysis of Alcoholic cirrhosis (ALC). Two-sample MR was performed to determine the causal relationship between gut microbiota and cirrhosis. Furthermore, a bi-directional MR analysis was employed to examine the direction of the causal relations.ResultIn MR analysis, we found that 21 gut microbiotas were potentially associated with cirrhosis. In reverse MR analysis, 11 gut microbiotas displayed potentially associations between genetic liability in the gut microbiome and cirrhosis. We found that the family Lachnospiraceae (OR: 1.59, 95% CI:1.10–2.29) might be harmful in cirrhotic conditions (ICD-10: K74). Furthermore, the genus Erysipelatoclostridium might be a protective factor for cirrhosis (OR:0.55, 95% CI:0.34–0.88) and PBC (OR:0.68, 95% CI:0.52–0.89). Combining the results from the MR analysis and reverse MR analysis, we firstly identified the Genus Butyricicoccus had a bi-directional causal effect on PBC (Forward: OR: 0.37, 95% CI:0.15–0.93; Reverse: OR: 1.03, 95% CI:1.00–1.05).ConclusionWe found a new potential causal effect between cirrhosis and intestinal flora and provided new insights into the role of gut microbiota in the pathological progression of liver cirrhosis.

As a nature-based solution for climate change mitigation, blue carbon has been highlighted for realizing carbon neutrality in China. China's central and local governments have issued many policies to promote blue carbon protection and development. However, scaling up blue carbon restoration and protection is required for its substantial contribution to carbon neutrality. This study evaluates the characteristics of China's blue carbon policies using qualitative document analysis based on policy instrument theory. The distribution of different policy instruments among blue carbon policies and resources is analyzed. Suggestions for improving blue carbon policy supply are put forward combined with comparative experience from international organizations and other jurisdictions. The following policies should be strengthened to secure efficient blue carbon protection, restoration, and creation: blue carbon protection legislation, marine ecological compensation system, stable investment in blue carbon projects, integrated blue carbon verification system, and inclusion of blue carbon in regulated carbon markets.

Tungsten sulfide (WS2), as a typical 2D layered material, is a promising electrocatalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), while its low electrical conductivity, limited number of active sites, and inadequate intrinsic activity restrict its HER performance. Herein, the reasonable construction of cerium phosphate‐modified tungsten phosphide/tungsten sulfide composite nanosheets with ternary heterostructure on carbon cloth (CeP5O14/WP/WS2/CC) as an efficient self‐supported electrode for the HER is reported. Experimental results and theoretical analysis show that the CeP5O14 can promote the formation of WP to create rich WP/WS2 heterostructures and increase the number of oxygen vacancies in CeP5O14/WP/WS2/CC. Meanwhile, the 3D monolithic construction with more open spaces endows the CeP5O14/WP/WS2/CC with good conductivity, more exposed active sites, and high mass/electron transfer efficiency. More importantly, the synergy of CeP5O14, WP, and WS2 can efficiently tune the electronic state of the WP/WS2 heterostructure, thus optimizing the hydrogen adsorption Gibbs free energy and lowering the d‐band center of the CeP5O14/WP/WS2/CC. As a result, the optimized CeP5O14/WP/WS2/CC electrode exhibits low overpotentials of 105, 154, and 119 mV at 10 mA cm−2 with small Tafel slopes of 52, 78, and 93 mV dec−1 in acidic, alkaline, and neutral electrolytes, respectively, surpassing most of the reported WS2‐based HER electrocatalysts.

Snake robots have great potential for exploring and operating in challenging unstructured environments, such as rubble, caves, and narrow pipelines. However, due to the complexity and unpredictability of unstructured environments, designing a controller that can achieve adaptive motion is crucial. This paper proposes a self-adaptive torque-based rolling controller for snake robots, enabling compliant motion in unstructured environments. First, a controller is designed to modify the torque of each motor by focusing on the different motion states of the rolling gait. Second, an experimental platform is established for snake robots to verify the effectiveness of the controller. Finally, a series of rolling experiments are conducted using the torque-based rolling controller. In conclusion, the self-adaptive torque-based rolling controller enhances snake robot adaptability and mobility.

The occurrence of cracks in brown rice kernels has a substantial impact on grain quality. The timely and accurate detection of rice grains with cracks is crucial for enhancing the overall quality and flavor of processed rice. In this study, we developed an optical observation platform and optimized the original ResNet-18 neural network structure to improve the detection and classification of grain cracks. We established image datasets for japonica and indica rice varieties, and employed image augmentation and model migration techniques during training. In addition, we compared the performance of the optimized model with DenseNet-121 and GoogLeNet. The results demonstrate a notable enhancement in crack detection accuracy for japonica, reaching 96%, which is a 3.67% improvement over the original model. Furthermore, we achieved a substantial reduction in average training time, reduced by 58.66%. For indica rice, after model optimization and migration, the accuracy reached 96.67%. It’s important to note that the optimized model has limitations and is not suitable for mixed datasets with limited training data. This technology offers the capability to accurately identify and detect cracks in brown rice kernels under visible light conditions, presenting a promising solution for enhancing grain quality during processing.

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) can be used to stimulate the lower-limb muscles to provide walking assistance to stroke patients. However, the existing surface electromyography (sEMG)-based FES control methods mostly only consider a single muscle with a fixed stimulation intensity and frequency. This study proposes a multi-channel FES gait rehabilitation assistance system based on adaptive myoelectric modulation. The proposed system collects sEMG of the vastus lateralis muscle on the non-affected side to predict the sEMG values of four targeted lower-limb muscles on the affected side using a bidirectional long short-term memory (BILSTM) model. Next, the proposed system modulates the real-time FES output frequency for four targeted muscles based on the predicted sEMG values to provide muscle force compensation. Fifteen healthy subjects were recruited to participate in an offline model-building experiment conducted to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed BILSTM model in predicting the sEMG values. The experimental results showed that the $\text{R}^{{2}}$ value of the best-obtained prediction result reached 0.85 using the BILSTM model, which was significantly higher than that using traditional prediction methods. Moreover, two patients after stroke were recruited in the online assisted-walking experiment to verify the effectiveness of the proposed walking-assistance system. The experimental results showed that the activation of the target muscles of the patients was higher after FES, and the gait movement data were significantly different before and after FES. The proposed system can be effectively applied to walking assistance for stroke patients, and the experimental results can provide new ideas and methods for sEMG-controlled FES rehabilitation applications.

Abstract Background It has been hypothesized that higher growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) level and lower testosterone/ estradiol (T/E) ratio are associated with major depressive disorder (MDD), yet the underlying effect of serum GDF15 on hinting the T/E ratio imbalance is not fully understood. We observed the correlation between serum T/E ratio and circulating GDF15 in male depressed cohort. Methods The sample consisted of participants (aged 18 ~ 65 years) from the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University with MDD (n = 412) defined according to a Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-V (SCID), and male healthy controls (n = 137). Serum levels of testosterone, estradiol, and depression risk biomarkers (thyroid hormone, lipids, hs-CRP, Tenascin-C [TNC], GDF15, KLF4, Gas6, and sgp130) were measured. The associations among log-transformed T/E ratio and these biomarkers were analyzed using univariate correlation analysis, category analyses, and linear regression adjusting for standard risk factors. Results Of the sample, 36.89% had lower T/E ratio ( 20:1). After multivariable adjustment, T/E ratio was negatively associated with GDF15 (-0.095 [95% CI -0.170 ~ -0.023] standard deviation [SD] change per SD increase in lg[T/E], P = 0.015) and inversely related to TNC (-0.085 [95% CI -0.167 ~ 0.003] standard deviation [SD] change per SD increase in lg[T/E], P = 0.048). Serum T/E ratio was negatively associated with GDF15 level in both FT3, TSH and HDL strata, whereas this association was not observed in TNC. In T/E ratio strata analyses, there is a significant and negative correlation among T/E ratio and GDF15 in depressive patients with sex hormone imbalance, yet this relationship was not investigated in patients with sex hormone balance. Conclusion In our community-based observation, circulating GDF-15 level was greatly and inversely associated with serum T/E ratio, indicating that higher GDF-15 alerts sex hormone imbalance in patients with MDD.

A combined thermionic-thermoelectric refrigerator is proposed. The passive metal conductor in a vacuum thermionic refrigerator is replaced by an active p-type thermoelectric element, so that the Peltier cooling power can be exploited. Complete analytic formulas of performances are derived for the two types of thermionic refrigerators at both maximum cooling power density and optimum coefficient of performance. In employing the ideal material properties as Nolas and Goldsmid have done [J. Appl. Phys. 85, 4066 (1999)], we have proved quantitatively the combined thermionic-thermoelectric refrigerator to be more effective and efficient than a thermionic or thermoelectric device. Abstract Background Aerobic glycolysis has been recognized as one of the growth-promoting metabolic alterations of cancer cells. Emerging evidence indicates that nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) plays significant roles in metabolic adaptation in normal cells and cancer cells. However, whether and how NF-κB regulates metabolic reprogramming in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), specifically hepatitis B virus X protein (HBx)-initiated HCC, has not been determined. Methods A dataset of the HCC cohort from the TCGA database was used to analyse the expression of NF-κB family members. Expression of NF-κBp65 and phosphorylation of NF-κBp65 (p-p65) were detected in liver tissues from HBV-related HCC patients and normal controls. A newly established HBx +/+/NF-κBp65 f/f and HBx +/+ /NF-κBp65 Δhepa spontaneous HCC mouse model was used to investigate the effects of NF-κBp65 on HBx-initiated hepatocarcinogenesis. Whether and how NF-κBp65 is involved in aerobic glycolysis induced by HBx in hepatocellular carcinogenesis were analysed in vitro and in vivo. Results NF-κBp65 was upregulated in HBV-related HCC, and HBx induced NF-κBp65 upregulation and phosphorylation in vivo and in vitro. Hepatocyte-specific NF-κBp65 deficiency remarkably decreased HBx-initiated spontaneous HCC incidence in HBx-TG mice. Mechanistically, HBx induced aerobic glycolysis by activating NF-κBp65/hexokinase 2 (HK2) signalling in spontaneous hepatocarcinogenesis, and overproduced lactate significantly promoted HCC cell pernicious proliferation via the PI3K (phosphatidylinositide 3-kinase)/Akt pathway in hepatocarcinogenesis. Conclusion The data elucidate that NF-κBp65 plays a pivotal role in HBx-initiated spontaneous HCC, which depends on hyperactive NF-κBp65/HK2-mediated aerobic glycolysis to activate PI3K/Akt signalling. Thus, phosphorylation of NF-κBp65 will be a potential therapeutic target for HBV-related HCC.

The high temperature compression is performed by isothermal compression tests using Gleeble 3500 thermo-mechanical simulator at a constant strain rate for the hot-pressed Nb-22.5Cr-2.5Mo alloy. The deformation temperature ranges from 800 to 1200 °C and the strain rate ranges from 0.001 to 0.1 s−1. The high temperature flow behavior and deformation mechanism of the alloy are investigated based on the compression test data and TEM observation of the deformed microstructure. The results show that the ductile–brittle transition temperature of the alloy is about 800 °C, and the flow stress is sensitive to the deformation temperature and strain rate, in which the plastic deformation ability increases obviously with the increase of deformation temperature and the decrease of strain rate. Besides, the hyperbolic sine Arrhenius model with stress exponent of 3.131 and apparent activation energy of 402 kJ/mol is established for the peak flow stress. The value of apparent activation energy is higher than that of Nb metal (246 kJ/mol), which implies the existence of Laves phase NbCr2 makes the deformation of the alloy more difficult. Moreover, it is found that the deformation mechanisms in the Nbss matrix are mainly DRV controlled by the glide and climb of the dislocations and DRX formed by bulging nucleation mechanism, while the deformation mechanisms in the Laves phase NbCr2 particles are mainly twinning and synchroshear of the Shockley partial dislocation.

Abstract Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)—the causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)—has caused a global public health emergency. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is the primary defence against viral exposure in healthcare and community settings. However, the surfaces of PPE materials may trap virus for contact transmission or through laden aerosols generated during removal of PPE, through cleaning or during movement. In this study, the relative efficacy of current PPE materials in terms of virion adsorption to materials and their antiviral potency, has been evaluated on a wide range of PPE for the first time, including four polymer glove types, two types of scrubs, apron material, a mask, visor and a selection of other commercial polymers and products. Although differences in virion adsorption to the test materials were observed, none of the existing polymer-based PPE resulted in more than tenfold reduction in the SARS-CoV-2 titre within either 10 min or 30 min contact period. The wettability and surface chemistry of the test materials were analysed to investigate any correlations with their surface physicochemical properties. While no correlation was found between wettability and viral retention under air flow challenge, one secondary ion of m/z 101.03 (+) and three secondary ions of m/z 31.98 (−), 196.93 (−) and 394.33 (+) in ToF–SIMS data of the test materials showed positive and negative correlations with the viral retention, respectively, which was identified by PLS regression model, suggesting that the surface chemistry plays a role in determining the extent of virion adsorption. Our findings outline the material aspects that influence the efficacy of current PPE against SARS-CoV-2 transmission and give suggestions on the development of novel simple polymer-based PPE for better infection protection.

Abstract A subset of human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are the cause of virtually every cervical cancer. These so-called “high-risk” HPVs encode two major oncogenes (HPV E6 and E7) that are necessary for transformation. Among "high-risk” HPVs, HPV16 causes most cervical cancers and is often used as a representative model for oncogenic HPVs. The HPV16 E7 oncogene facilitates the HPV16 lifecycle by binding and destabilizing RB, which ensures the virus has access to cellular replication machinery. RB destabilization increases E2F1-responsive gene expression and causes replication stress. While HPV16 E6 mitigates some of the deleterious effects associated with this replication stress by degrading p53, cells undergo separate adaptations to tolerate the stress. Here, we demonstrate that this includes the activation of the translesion synthesis (TLS) pathway, which prevents replication stress from causing replication fork collapse. We show that significantly elevated TLS gene expression is more common in cervical cancers than 15 out of the 16 the other cancer types that we analyzed. In addition to increased TLS protein abundance, HPV16 E7 expressing cells have a reduced ability to induct a critical TLS factor (POLη) in response to replication stress-inducing agents. Finally, we show that increased expression of at least one TLS gene is associated with improved survival for women with cervical cancer.

Background Although immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy has shown remarkable benefits in cancers, a subset of patients with cancer exhibits unresponsiveness or develop acquired resistance due to the existence of abundant immunosuppressive cells. Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), as the dominant immunosuppressive population, impede the antitumor immune response; however, the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated yet.Methods Single-cell RNA sequencing analysis was performed to portray macrophage landscape and revealed the underlying mechanism of component 1q (C1q)+ TAMs. Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) of human and mouse was used to explore the phenotypes and functions of C1q+ TAMs.Results C1q+ TAMs highly expressed multiple inhibitory molecules and their high infiltration was significantly correlated with poor prognosis. C1q+ TAMs promote MPE immunosuppression through impairing the antitumor effects of CD8+ T cells. Mechanistically, C1q+ TAMs enhance fatty acid binding protein 5 (FABP5)-mediated fatty acid metabolism, which activate transcription factor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma, increasing the gene expression of inhibitory molecules. A high-fat diet increases the expression of inhibitory molecules in C1q+ TAMs and the immunosuppression of MPE microenvironment, whereas a low-fat diet ameliorates these effects. Moreover, FABP5 inhibition represses the expression of inhibitory molecules in TAMs and tumor progression, while enhancing the efficacy of ICB therapy in MPE and lung cancer.Conclusions C1q+ TAMs impede antitumor effects of CD8+ T cells promoting MPE immunosuppression. Targeting C1q+ TAMs effectively alleviates the immunosuppression and enhances the efficacy of ICB therapy. C1q+ TAMs subset has great potential to be a therapeutic target for cancer immunotherapy.

BackgroundSome eating habits may be related to the development of gastrointestinal diseases, obesity, and related metabolic dysfunctions. Because of long working hours, and shift schedules, physicians are more likely to form such eating habits and have a high risk of developing these diseases.ObjectivesWe aimed to investigate the association between physicians’ eating habits and their health perception and diseases.MethodsBetween 24 June and 5 August 2020, we performed convenience sampling of in-service physicians in hospitals in mainland China. A questionnaire was administered to collect data pertaining to basic sociodemographic characteristics, eating habits, health-related information such as body mass index classification, and prevalence of common diseases. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are known as extracellular fibers networks consisting of antimicrobial proteins and decondensated chromatin DNA released by activated neutrophils. NETosis is a NETs-induced neutrophilic cell death which is unique from necrosis or apoptosis. Besides its neutralizing pathogen, NETosis plays a crucial role in diabetes and diabetes-related complications. In patients with diabetes, NETs-releasing products are significantly elevated in blood, and these findings confirm the association of NETosis and diabetic complications, including diabetic wound healing, diabetic retinopathy, and atherosclerosis. This article briefly summarizes the mechanisms of NETosis and discusses its contribution to the pathogenesis of diabetes-related complications and suggests new therapeutic targets by some small molecule compounds.
