Integration of a vibration absorber and an energy harvester is a promising approach to achieve simultaneously vibration reductions and vibratory energy harvesting. The present work investigates random responses of a nonlinear energy sink (NES) combined with a giant magnetostrictive energy harvester (GMEH). When a structure is modeled as a one-degree-of-freedom oscillator subjected to a random excitation, the structure with the integrated NES-GMEH is governed by two simultaneous nonlinear stochastic differential equations coupled with a nonlinear algebraic equation. The Ferrari formula is applied to decouple the algebraic equations from the stochastic differential-algebraic equations. The resulting stochastic algebraic differential equations are transformed into the steady Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations. A fourth finite difference scheme is used to solve numerically the FPK equations. The FPK equations based solutions are qualitatively verified via Monte Carlo simulations. The parametric effects on vibration suppression and electricity production are examined, where the electricity is indicated by the square expectations of voltage and power. The responses of the structure, the structure with the NES only and the structure with both NES-GMEH are compared under the same Gaussian white noise and system parameters. It is found that the integrated NES-GMEH system achieves the best vibration suppression. It is demonstrated that a properly designed NES-GMEH device can simultaneously suppress vibration and produce electricity under Gaussian white noise excitations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Wohlfahrtiimonas chitiniclastica is an emerging fly-borne zoonotic pathogen, which causes infections in immunocompromised patients and some animals. Herein, we reported a W. chitiniclastica BM-Y from a dead zebra in China. Methods: The complete genome sequencing of BM-Y showed that this isolate carried one chromosome and one novel type of blaVEB-1-carrying plasmid. Detailed genetic dissection was applied to this plasmid to display the genetic environment of blaVEB-1. Results: Three novel insertion sequence (IS) elements, namely ISWoch1, ISWoch2, and ISWochJ, were found in this plasmid. aadB, aacAl, and gcuG were located downstream of blaVEB-1, composing a gene cassette array blaVEB-1-aadB- aacA1-gcuG bracketed by an intact ISWoch1 and a truncated one, which was named the blaVEB-1 region. The 5'-RACE experiments revealed that the transcription start site of the blaVEB-1 region was located in the intact ISWoch1 and this IS provided a strong promoter for the blaVEB-1 region. Conclusion: The spread of the blaVEB-1-carrying plasmid might enhance the ability of W. chitiniclastica to survive under drug selection pressure and aggravate the difficulty in treating infections caused by blaVEB-1-carrying W. chitiniclastica. Oceans are identified as potent sources of atmospheric nitrous oxide (N2O), while the magnitude of its flux and microbial production mechanisms remain uncertain in highly perturbed coastal zones. Here, the first analyses of N2O isotopocule signatures in the East China Sea (ECS) are presented, along with hydroxylamine (NH2OH) and N2O concentrations, to clarify the dominant N2O production processes in coastal water. In the ECS in October 2015, N2O ranged from 6.3 to 33.1 nmol L−1, equivalent to 99%–251% saturation, leading to air‐sea fluxes of 1.6–10.5 μmol m−2 d−1 (4.8 ± 2.5 μmol m−2 d−1) using the W2014 formula. The coexistence of high levels of NH4+, NH2OH, and NO2− indicated the potential for nitrification and/or hybrid N2O formation. In the shallow water (<300 m), the concentration (∼9.3 nmol L−1), δ15Nbulk–N2O (∼6.8‰), δ18O–N2O (∼45.1‰), and 15N site preference (SP, ∼14.8‰) of N2O were close to the isotopic signatures in atmospheric N2O, whereas values in the deep water increased with depth, with N2O reaching maxima of 33.1 nmol L−1, 8.6‰, 54.7‰, and 18.7‰, respectively. From the dual N2O isotopocule mapping approach, almost equal contributions of archaeal N2O production (archaeal nitrification and/or hybrid mechanism, ∼47%) and nitrifier denitrification (or denitrification) (∼53%) to total in situ N2O production were identified for the shallow water, but archaeal nitrification was responsible for ∼83% of the deeper N2O production. Moreover, the far‐field lateral advection from other areas served as a potential physical supply of deeper N2O. Our findings enhance the understanding of N2O dynamics in coastal waters. Plain Language Summary: Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a powerful climatically trace gas, of which the global warming potential per mole is nearly 300 times that of carbon oxide, and it also acts as a significant ozone depletion agent. Coastal seas, which are influenced by anthropogenic perturbations, are identified as potent sources of N2O. Based on the isotopic analysis of dissolved N2O and other environmental parameters in the ECS, a northwestern Pacific marginal sea, we can obtain a further understanding of the N2O biogeochemical dynamics in coastal waters. In the ECS, N2O production in the shallow water was attributed to a mixed pool of archaeal N2O production and nitrifier denitrification (or denitrification) with almost equal contributions, while archaeal nitrification represented the major source of deeper N2O production. The advected supply of N2O‐enriched waters from other regions and air‐sea gas exchange were important physical processes in coastal N2O cycling. Deciphering coastal N2O biogeochemical dynamics would further constrain and predict global climate change. Abstract Background The nursing industry's stability and progress are adversely affected by the high attrition rate and shortage of nurses; therefore, it is critical to investigate the variables that influence the professional stability of nurses. The sense of professional mission and career success have positive significance for reducing nurses' job burnout. The purpose of this study is to explore the potential mediating role of psychological resilience in this relationship. Methods Self-reported questionnaires were utilized by 335 intensive care unit (ICU) nurses to assess their sense of professional mission, psychological resilience, and career success in this cross-sectional study. A structural equation model was developed to validate the relationship between the variables. Results There is a correlation among sense of professional mission, psychological resilience and career success. Significant mediating effect of psychological resilience exists between sense of professional mission and career success. Conclusions In this study, psychological resilience plays an intermediary role between sense of professional mission and career success, which provides support for further understanding the mechanism between sense of professional mission and career success and bolstering the case for devising comprehensive intervention strategies for psychological resilience. Nursing managers should focus on nurses' sense of professional mission and psychological resilience, and implement strategies to enhance nurses' psychological resilience in order to boost their career success.

Abstract Background General hospitals in China have been establishing General Practice Departments (GPD). Although General Practice Nurses (GPNs) are an important part of this medical system, their training has not been synchronised. This study explored the working status of nurses in GPDs in general hospitals in Beijing to provide a theoretical basis for the training and development of GPNs in China. Methods We conducted in-depth, individual interviews with outpatient nurses at 19 hospitals in Beijing between March and April 2021. We employed a qualitative analysis to interpret participant narratives and used a codebook thematic analysis to analyse the interview data and extract themes. Results The analysis revealed four themes: (i) a lack of full-time GPNs in GPDs of most tertiary hospitals, (ii) the inability of GPNs to fully express their potential and skills owing to their limited roles, (iii) insufficient standardised patient education provided by nurses in GPDs, and (iv) a lack of systematic and relevant training for nurses working in general practice settings. Conclusions To promote the development of GPNs, GPDs in general hospitals in China should hire full-time GPNs, define their job duties in alignment with their values, and provide standardised training to strengthen their core competencies.

Abstract Background Although stroke is prevalent among Chinese, individuals with stroke may become more disabling if they have concomitant neck pain (NP) and low back pain (LBP). However, the prevalence and factors associated with post-stroke spinal pain among Chinese remain unknown. The current study used the 2018 cohort data from the China Health and Aged Care Tracking Survey (CHARLS) to determine the prevalence and factors associated with increased post-stroke NP and LBP in China. Methods The CHARLS study was conducted on four cohorts of nationally representative samples of individuals aged 45 years and above from 30 provincial-level administrative units in China. We used data from the 2018 cohort of the CHARLS survey to determine the prevalence and factors associated with NP and LBP in the non-stroke and post-stroke populations. Participants aged 45 years or older who reported to have NP, and/or LBP were identified. The study was statistically analyzed using t-test, and ANOVA analysis of variance. A multiple logistic regression model was used to identify factors significantly associated with NP and/or LBP in the non-stroke and post-stroke populations. Results A total of 19,816 individuals participated in the 2018 survey. The final inclusion of 17,802 subjects who met the criteria included 16,197 non-stroke and 885 stroke participants. The prevalence of NP and LBP in non-stroke population was 17.80% (95% CI: 17.21–18.39) and 37.22% (95% CI: 36.47–37.96), respectively. Many cancers exhibit resistance to chemotherapy, resulting in a poor prognosis. The transcription factor NRF2, activated in response to cellular antioxidants, plays a crucial role in cell survival, proliferation, and resistance to chemotherapy. This factor may serve as a promising target for therapeutic interventions in esophageal carcinoma. Recent research suggests that NRF2 activity is modulated by ubiquitination mediated by the KEAP1-CUL3 E3 ligase complex, highlighting the importance of deubiquitination. However, the specific deubiquitinase responsible for regulating NRF2 in esophageal cancer remains unknown. In this study, a novel regulator of the NRF2 protein, Ubiquitin-Specific Protease 35 (USP35), has been identified. Mechanistically, USP35 modulates NRF2 stability through enzymatic deubiquitination. USP35 interacts with NRF2 and facilitates its deubiquitination. Knockdown of USP35 leads to a notable increase in NRF2 levels and enhances the sensitivity of cells to chemotherapy. These findings suggest that the USP35-NRF2 axis is a key player in the regulation of therapeutic strategies for esophageal cancer.

Abstract [Objective] The diurnal variation characteristics of photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence of greenhouse grape varieties in Hotan area were investigated, and their photosynthetic capacity was comprehensively evaluated, in order to provide reference for the introduction and cultivation management of greenhouse grapes in this area. [Methods] Six grape varieties were introduced into Hotan greenhouse as materials. The photosynthetic active radiation (PAR), relative chlorophyll content (SPAD), photosynthesis, and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters of each variety were analyzed, and the principal component analysis was used to comprehensively evaluate the ability of each grape variety. [Results] (1) The PAR levels of greenhouse in different positions were in the order: Before the shed>behind the shed>middle of the shed, while the overall performance in different trellis was in the order: On the trellis>middle of the trellis>under the trellis. (2) The SPAD values of grape leaves on different trellis were in the order: on the trellis>middle of the trellis>under the trellis, while the order from high to low among varieties: ‘Crimson Seedless’, ‘Summer Black’, ‘Xinyu’, ‘Hutai 8’, ‘Sunshine Muscat’, and ‘Queen Nina’. (3) The diurnal variation of Pn, Gs, and Tr of each variety showed a bimodal curve, and the diurnal variation of Ci showed a U-shaped and W-shaped variation. Fv/Fo and Fv/Fm generally showed a downward trend and then an upward trend. (4) The photosynthetic capacity of the six grape varieties was in the order: ‘Crimson Seedless’ >‘Summer Black’ >‘Sunshine Muscat’ >‘Xinyu’ > ‘Hutai 8’ >‘Queen Nina’. [Conclusion] ‘Crimson Seedless’ and ‘Summer Black’ have higher Pn, Gs, Tr, Fo, Fm and lower Fv/Fo and Fv/Fm, which are able to adapt to the Hotan environment of high temperature and high light intensity.

Abstract Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is characterized by a high incidence and mortality rate. Despite advancements in therapeutic interventions, the prognosis for renal cancer patients remains suboptimal. Of late, methylation modifications have emerged as promising molecular targets for tumor assessment and treatment, yet their potential has not been fully investigated in the context of ccRCC. Transcriptomic and clinical data were extracted from The Cancer Genome Atlas, Gene Expression Omnibus, and ArrayExpress databases, leading to the identification of 57 methylation-related genes (MRGs). Utilizing DESeq2 analysis, Cox regression analysis, and the LASSO regression algorithm, a Methylation-Related Risk Score (MARS) was constructed. Cluster analysis, Gene Ontology (GO) analysis, clinical feature analysis, immune infiltration analysis, and mutation analysis were further employed to evaluate the model. Our investigation identified six pivotal prognostic MRGs and established a risk score predicated on m6A/m5C/m1A/m7G regulatory factors. This score was validated across two external cohorts and can be utilized to assess individual immune infiltration statuses and predict responses to immunotherapy. Moreover, cluster analysis delineated two distinct m6A/m5C/m1A/m7G gene clusters. We have developed and validated a robust prognostic signature based on genes associated with m6A, m5C, m1A, and m7G modifications. This gene signature demonstrates significant prognostic value in assessing survival outcomes, clinical characteristics, immune infiltration, and responses to immunotherapy in ccRCC patients. This finding provides valuable insights for refining precision treatment strategies.

AIM: To investigate the diagnostic value of the difference of binocular biological parameters of the anterior segment in early keratoconus.METHODS: Retrospective case-control study. A total of 183 patients(366 eyes)who visited our hospital from March 2022 to November 2023 were included, including 107 cases(214 eyes)in the control group(patients with simple refractive error), 40 cases(80 eyes)in the subclinical keratoconus group, and 36 cases(72 eyes)in the clinical keratoconus group. All of the patients were examined by the Pentacam anterior segment analyzer to determine the inferior-superior 3 mm of the posterior corneal surface(I-S), corneal posterior elevation of the thinnest point(P.E.), maximum posterior elevation of the best fit sphere(MPE from BFS), the maximum posterior elevation of the best fit toric ellipsoid(MPE from BFTE), posterior aspherical asymmetry index(AAI), central corneal thickness(CCT), thinnest corneal thickness(TCT), pachymetric progression index average(PPIavg), Ambrósio relational thickness maximum(ARTmax), Belin/ Ambrósio enhanced ectasia display(BAD-D), and the binocular difference of each test was calculated separately for each patient. The control group was further divided according to corneal diameter: 21 cases(42 eyes)with corneal diameter 11.8 mm in group C.RESULTS: There was significant differences in the binocular I-S, P.E., MPE from BFS, MPE from BFTE, AAI, CCT, TCT, PPIavg, ARTmax and BAD-D between the clinical keratoconus group and the control group(P0.05), and none of them had correlation with corneal diameter(P>0.05); however, there were statistical significant differences in binocular P.E. and BAD-D in the control group A, B and C(P=0.007, 0.003), while the P.E. differences had no correlation with corneal diameter(P=0.270), and binocular BAD-D differences were negatively correlated with corneal diameter(r=-0.230, P=0.017).CONCLUSION: Pentacam anterior segment analyzer can accurately measure a variety of corneal biological parameters. Difference of binocular corneal I-S, P.E. and BAD-D are sensitive indexes for the early diagnosis of keratoconus. Among them, difference of binocular I-S and P.E. are less affected by corneal diameter, thus being significant for the early diagnosis of keratoconus with different cornea diameters.

Delays in infected wound healing are usually a result of bacterial infection and local inflammation, which imposes a significant and often underappreciated burden on patients and society. Current therapies for chronic wound infection generally suffer from limited drug permeability and frequent drug administration, owing to the existence of a wound biofilm that acts as a barrier restricting the entry of various antibacterial drugs. Here, we report the design of a biocompatible probiotic-based microneedle (MN) patch that can rapidly deliver beneficial bacteria to wound tissues with improved delivery efficiency. The probiotic is capable of continuously producing antimicrobial substances by metabolizing introduced glycerol, thereby facilitating infected wound healing through long-acting antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, the beneficial bacteria can remain highly viable (>80 %) inside MNs for as long as 60 days at 4 °C. In a mouse model of Staphylococcus aureus-infected wounds, a single administration of the MN patch exhibited superior antimicrobial efficiency and wound healing performance in comparison with the control groups, indicating great potential for accelerating infected wound closure. Further development of live probiotic-based MN patches may enable patients to better manage chronically infected wounds.

Abstract Background Adenomyosis is a commonly observed benign gynecological disease that affects the quality of life and social psychology of women of childbearing age. However, because of the unknown etiology and incidence of adenomyosis, its pathophysiological mechanism remains unclear; further, because no noninvasive, accurate, and individualized diagnostic methods are available, treatment and efficacy evaluations are limited. Notably, the interaction between the changes in the microecological environment of the female reproductive tract and human immunity, endocrine, and other links leads to the occurrence and development of diseases. In addition, the vaginal microbiome differs in different menstrual cycles; therefore, assessing the differences between the microbiomes of patients with adenomyosis and healthy individuals in different menstrual cycles will improve the understanding of the disease and provide references for the search for noninvasive diagnosis and individualized precision treatment of adenomyosis. This study aimed to explored the data of individuals in different menstrual cycles. Results Differences in the vaginal microbiome between patients with adenomyosis and healthy individuals were observed. At phylum level, the relative abundance of Firmicutes in the adenomyosis group was higher than that in the control group, which contributed the most to the species difference between the two groups. At the genus level, Lactobacillus was the most dominant in both groups, Alpha-diversity analysis showed significant differences in the adenomyosis and control group during luteal phase (Shannon index, p = 0.0087; Simpson index, p = 0.0056). Beta-diversity index was significantly different between the two groups (p = 0.018). However, based on Weighted Unifrac analysis, significant differences were only observed throughout the luteal phase (p = 0.0146). Within the adenomyosis group, differences between women with different menstrual cycles were also observed. Finally, 50 possible biomarkers including were screened and predicted based on the random forest analyse. Conclusions The vaginal microbiome of patients with adenomyosis and healthy individuals differed during menstrual periods, especially during the luteal phase. These findings facilitate the search for specific biological markers within a limited range and provide a more accurate, objective, and individualized diagnostic and therapeutic evaluation method for patients with adenomyosis, compared to what is currently available.

Abstract Background Previous evidence suggests that low-quality embryos may send negative signals to the endometrium and affect the receptivity of the endometrium. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of transferring an additional low-quality embryo with a high-quality embryo on the pregnancy outcome. Methods A total of 1506 fresh embryo transfer cycles between January 2018 and June 2020 were included. The patients were separated into two groups: a single embryo transfer group (SET, patients receiving a single high-quality embryo) and a double embryo transfer group (DET, patients receiving a high-quality embryo and a low-quality embryo). Main outcome measures including multiple pregnancy rate and live birth rate were discussed. Overall, in the primary analysis, patients who receive an additional low-quality embryo improved the live birth by 8.7% and multiple pregnancy rate by 10.0%. In women aged less than 35 years, compared with SET, DET increased the birth rate by 6.0% but resulted in a 13.5% increase in multiples. Women of 35 years above, adding a low-quality embryo increased the live birth rate by only 2.2% but increased multiples by 14.7%. In patients with one cycle of ET, the same results were obtained. In patients with multiple cycles of ET and adding a low-quality embryo, the live birth rate was similar to SET but with a 14.7% increase in multiples. Conclusions Compared to DET, we prefer to transfer a high-quality embryo. Nevertheless, in women 35 years or older or in patients with multiple cycles of embryo transfer, adding a low-quality embryo did not significantly improve live birth but increased the multiple rate.
