Abstract

Background and objective Probiotic bacteria can induce immune regulation or immune tolerance in patients with allergic diseases, but the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. There has been a growing interest in the use of beneficial bacteria for allergic diseases recently. This study aimed at exploring whether Clostridium butyricum CGMCC0313-1 (C. butyricum) can reduce ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic airway inflammation in a mouse model. Methods Mouse model of allergic airway inflammation induced via OVA was used in this study. C. butyricum was administered daily by the oral route during or after the sensitization. Airway function, pulmonary airway inflammation, mast cell degranulation, T helper (Th)-specific and anti-inflammatory cytokines, OVA-specific Ig, matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and histopathological alterations were examined. Results C. butyricum significantly reduced lung resistance in the asthmatic mice. Pulmonary airway inflammation, mast cell degranulation, airway remodelling and the expression of OVA-specific IgE/G1 were suppressed by oral C. butyricum. It also reversed the imbalance of Th1/Th2 and increased the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. Conclusion C. butyricum reduces OVA-induced allergic airway inflammation in mice and might be an additional or supplementary therapy for allergic asthma.

Abstract

We designed two near‐infrared (NIR) lanthanide complexes [(L)2‐Nd(NO3)3] (L=TPE2‐BPY for 1, TPE‐BPY for 2) by employing aggregation‐induced emission (AIE)‐active tetraphenylethylene (TPE) derivatives as sensitizers, which possessed matched energy to NdIII, prevented competitive deactivation under aggregation, even shifted the excitation window toward 600 nm by twisted intramolecular charge transfer. Furthermore, benefiting from the 4 f electron shielding effect and antenna effect, the enhanced excitation energies of the AIE‐active sensitizers by structural rigidification transferred into the inert NdIII excited state through 3LMCT, affording the first aggregation‐induced phosphorescence enhancement (AIPE)‐active discrete NIR‐emitting lanthanide complexes. As 1 equipped with more AIE‐active TPE than 2, L→Nd energy transfer efficiency in the former was higher than that in the latter under the same conditions. Consequently, the crystal of 1 exhibited one of the longest lifetimes (9.69 μs) among NdIII‐based complexes containing C−H bonds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Main observation and conclusion: Exploring pyrolysis process is an efficient way to study the relationship between molecular level of the precursor structure and electrocatalytic functional materials in practice. Here, the unique semi‐enclosed sector structure of Salophen ligands with highly symmetric N, N, O, O mode was introduced to construct binuclear Co complex [Co2(salophen)(Cl)2(C2H3N)] (compound 1), which provides preliminary theoretical basis for the efficient coreshell structure electrocatalysts obtained by pyrolysis regulation. Moreover, we adopted TG‐MS to real‐time track the pyrolysis process from precursors of binuclear Co complexes with Salophen ligand to efficient catalytic materials with core‐shell nanostructures. As expected, the 1‐600 sample achieves ultra‐low overpotential of 256 mV at 10 mA·cm–2 and high catalytic stability within 10 h in 1 mol/L KOH solution. This work highlights salophen‐ligated complex as excellent precursor material system for the analysis of pyrolysis evolution process, and provides an opportunity for targeted preparation of efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) nanocatalysts. Abstract

A new pillared-layer coordination polymer, [Co3(pybz)2(pico)2]n(1; pybz = 4-(pyridin-4-yl)benzoate, pico = 3-hydroxypicolinate), contains rare 2D [Co3(pico)2]n2n+layers formed by linear cobalt(II) trimers through the unusual μ4-κN,O:κO′-μ2:κO′′-μ2bridging mode of pico ligands, which are further cross-pillared by exotridentate bridging pybz ligands to form a three-dimensional structure with an unusual uninodal 8-connected body-centered-cubic topology. The bulk magnetic behavior of 1exhibits ferrimagnetic long-range ordering below 2.6 K, which mainly arises from the cooperative magnetic effect of the intra- and intertrimer arrangements in the 2D magnetic system based on the nature of the exchange modes of μ2-hydroxyl, μ2-carboxylate oxygen, and 1,1,3-μ3-carboxylate bridges.

Abstract

Dehydration of (S,S)‐1,2‐bis(1H‐benzo[d]imidazol‐2‐yl)ethane‐1,2‐diol (H4L) to (Z)‐1,2‐bis(1H‐benzo[d]imidazol‐2‐yl)ethenol) (H3L′) was found to be metal‐assisted, occurs under solvothermal conditions (H2O/CH3OH), and leads to [MnII4(H3L)4Cl2]Cl2⋅5 H2O⋅5 CH3OH (Mn4L4) and [MnII4(H2L′)6(μ3‐OH)]Cl⋅4 CH3OH⋅H2O (Mn4L′6), respectively. Their structures were determined by single‐crystal XRD. Extensive ESI‐MS studies on solutions and solids of the reaction led to the proposal consisting of an initial stepwise assembly of Mn4L4 from the reactants via [MnL] and [Mn2L2] below 80 °C, and then disassembly to [MnL] and [MnL2] followed by ligand modification before reassembly to Mn4L′6 via [MnL′], [MnL′2], and [Mn2L′3] with increasing solvothermal temperature up to 140 °C. Identification of intermediates [Mn4LxL′6−x] (x=5, 4, 3, 2, 1) in the process further suggested an assembly/disassembly/in situ reaction/reassembly transformation mechanism. These results not only reveal that multiple phase transformations are possible even though they were not realized in the crystalline state, but also help to better understand the complex transformation process between coordination clusters during "black‐box" reactions. 149. Metal Site Segregation in Chair-Shaped MII4Cluster: Crystallography, Mass Spectrometry, and Magnetic and Optical Properties

Abstract

The flexible ligand 2-[(2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-benzylidene)-amino]-ethanesulfonate (L2–) uses five of its six donor atoms in coordination through meridian, chelate, and terminal modes with MIIX2to form chair-shaped tetranuclear clusters Zn4L2(OCH3)2(CH3OH)2X2[X = Cl (Zn4-Cl) and Br (Zn4-Br)] and solid solutions Zn4-xNix-Bror Zn4-xNix-Cl(x= 0–2). The structures contain butterfly tetramers that consist of segregated six-coordinated metals (Zn or Ni) at the center but only five-coordinated zinc at the ends. Syntheses using different proportions of metal salts (Zn and Ni) gave solid solutions with a substitution rate of two-third times the starting quantity of NiBr2up to a saturation content of 50%, Zn2Ni2L2(OCH3)2(CH3OH)2Br2(Zn2Ni2-Br). The elemental and powder X-ray diffraction follow Vegard’s law. The ferromagnetic coupling between nearest neighbors of 3.7 cm–1and the structural refinement for (Zn2Ni2-Br) confirms the Ni atoms are at the center. This segregation is assumed to be related to the size and coordination number and the softness difference of the metals. The electrospray ionization mass spectra display a series of positive ions ABnor CBn(A = {ZnBr} and B = {ZnL}, C = {Zn(OCH3)}, n= 0–4) and negative ions AxBy(x= 0–1, y= 1–2), but none corresponds to the parent cluster. The luminescence is enhanced from that of Li2Lupon coordination to the metals. Major dependence of the emission and the excitation profile intensity on the concentration in the range 5–500 μM has been observed for Li2Land its metal complexes.
