Abstract

Si3N4 ceramics have been attractive casing materials for electronics devices under the 5th generation mobile communication technology because of its outstanding comprehensive properties. However, single color cannot meet the needs of most consumers. Here, a typical strategy, involving forming core‐shell structures by utilizing Nd2O3‐MgO‐YAG system, is proposed to rich color. Scanning transmission electron microscope‐energy dispersive X‐ray spectrometry results confirm the presence of core‐shell structures in the silicon nitride matrix, and the core is pore and the shell is Nd‐enriched liquid phase. The Nd‐rich core‐shell structure as the color center makes the silicon nitride appear cyan or blue. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Constructing effective electrocatalysts based on ultrafine heterostructures is a promising strategy for boosting catalytic performance by exposing active sites and increasing specific surface area. However, the fabrication of catalytically active heterostructures with elaborate architectures is still poorly developed owing to synthetic challenges, and the intrinsic mechanism of heterogeneous interfaces remains unclear because of insufficient evidence regarding real active sites. In this study, ultrafine homologous Ni2P–Co2P heterostructures (Ni2P–Co2P/C) are created using a topological transformation strategy from a Ni–Co layered double hydroxide/carbon (Ni–Co LDH/C) interconnected structure in a single nanosheet. When employed as catalysts in urea oxidation reaction (UOR), the Ni2P–Co2P/C heterostructures exhibit superior activity and stability, attributed to the optimized geometric and electronic structures of the catalytic sites. Specifically, it takes an ultralow potential of 1.27 V to reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2 with a small Tafel slope of 28.71 mV dec−1. The operando analyses and calculation results reveal that cobalt incorporation can reduce the generation potential of the surface reconstructive active species and optimize the absorption/desorption energy of the intermediates. Overall, this study proposes an efficient and cost‐effective UOR electrocatalyst and offers a new high‐performance homologous heterostructure design for widespread application. Abstract

The environmental pollutant bisphenol A (BPA), used in the manufacture of plastic packaging materials for various diets, is widely distributed in the environment and causes severe hepatotoxicity by inducing oxidative stress. Artemisia argyi essential oil (AAEO), a volatile oil component isolated from Artemisia argyi H.Lév. & Vaniot, has pharmacological effects, especially for hepatoprotective actions. However, the potential effect of AAEO in BPA induced hepatotoxicity has not been characterized. First, we analyzed the chemical composition in AAEO by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Herein, we investigated the effect of AAEO on hepatic metabolic changes in mice exposed to BPA. Results showed that compared with the BPA group, AAEO could reduce the level of liver function enzymes in BPA mice serum, and ameliorate hepatic lesions and fibrosis. Additionally, 20 differential metabolites screened by metabolomics were mainly involved in the reprogramming of glutathione metabolism, purine metabolism, and polyunsaturated fatty acid synthesis. Moreover, AAEO could reduce hepatic ferroptosis induced by BPA, as demonstrated by reducing xanthine oxidase activity, up‐regulating the activities of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), superoxide dismutase, and catalase and the expression of SLC7A11 to promote the glutathione synthetic, while inhibiting transferrin receptor 1 (TFR1) expression to reduce the accumulation of Fe2+ in cells. Therefore, our study identified AAEO as a hepatic protectant against BPA‐induced hepatotoxicity by reversing the occurrence of ferroptosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This work presents an in-situ technique to quantify the layer-by-layer roughness of thin films and heterostructures by measuring the spectral profile of the reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED). The characteristic features of the diffraction spot, including the vertical to lateral size ratio c/b and the asymmetrical ratio c1/c2 along the vertical direction, are found to be quantitatively dependent on the surface roughness. The quantitative relationships between them are established and discussed for different incident angles of high-energy electrons. As an example, the surface roughnesses of LaCoO3 films grown at different temperatures are obtained using such an in-situ technique, which are confirmed by the ex-situ atomic force microscopy. Moreover, the in-situ measured layer-by-layer roughness oscillations of two LaCoO3 films are demonstrated, revealing drastically different information from the intensity oscillations. The experiments assisted with the in-situ technique demonstrate an outstanding high resolution down to ∼ 0.1 A. Therefore, the new quantitative RHEED technique with real-time feedbacks significantly escalates the thin film synthesis efficiency, especially for achieving atomically smooth surfaces and interfaces. It opens up new prospects for future generations of thin film growth, such as the artificial intelligence-assisted thin film growth.
