Abstract

In this work, the microstructure and mechanical properties of titanium matrix composites were tuned by introducing graphene and alloying elements. The titanium matrix composites reinforced by graphene oxide (GO) and cobalt elements (GO@ Co/TA1) are synthesized by the spark plasma sintering (SPS) technique. Results show that the precipitated Ti2Co phase is almost reticulate distributed in the tissue, while the in situ TiC particles are discontinuously distributed at the grain boundaries. The ultimate tensile strength and yield strength of GO@ Co/TA1 composites are 160% and 126% higher than those of pure TA1, respectively. In addition, composites show excellent ductility where the elongation of GO@Co/TA1 is around 10.95%. Therefore, such enhanced mechanical properties can be attributed to the synergistic strengthening effect of interfacial‐distributed TiC particles and intragranular‐distributed intermetallic compounds (Ti2Co), which would provide a new idea for the design of metal matrix composite. Abstract

In the paper, in terms of the new developed additively manufactured Ti-6.9Al-6.8Zr-2.3Mo-2.2V alloy, different microstructural design strategies were proposed to tune the morphology and content of α phase to optimize the mechanical properties of the alloy and the corresponding deformation mechanism of the alloy were characterized and analyzed. The results show that after cyclic heat treatment and solution-aging, the best comprehensive mechanical properties (yield strength ∼ l009 MPa, and elongation ∼12%) are obtained. The better comprehensive tensile properties are attributable to the microstructure consisting 16% equiaxed α p and β t structure. The cycle heat treatment can effectively decrease the length-width ratio of lamellar α phase and improve spheroidization of primary α phase. The equiaxed primary α phase has higher ability to coordinate local plastic strain, leading to the activation of extensive prismatic slip and improving the ductility of the alloy. After aging-solution, large amount of fine α s precipitate from β phase. The high hetero-deformation induced stress at α s /β interfaces in β t structure promotes the activation of the pyramidal slip systems, thereby increasing the yield strength. The present findings provide significant guidance for additive manufactured titanium alloy having good combination of tensile ductility and strength. • In terms of the new developed additively manufactured Ti-6.9Al-6.8Zr-2.3Mo-2.2V alloy, different heat treatments were proposed to improve the mechanical properties. Abstract

• Relation of CeO 2 crystal planes, CuO-CeO 2 interactions and CO-PROX was studied. • Stronger interactions between the {1 0 0} planes and CuO promote electron transfer. • Enhanced electron transfer favor anchoring of CuO and stabilization of Cu+. • Interaction and CeO 2 surface properties jointly govern the CO 2 desorption mode. Adjustment of the CeO 2 exposed planes is an effective tool for modifying the metal-support interaction, which is the basis for the excellent CO preferential oxidation (CO-PROX) performance of CuO/CeO 2 catalysts. However, the relationship between the CeO 2 exposed planes, CuO-CeO 2 interaction and reaction performance is still unclear. Herein, we investigated the effect of interactions on the structure of CuO/CeO 2 catalysts and the CO-PROX reaction by modulating the CeO 2 exposed planes (CuCe-NC (nanocubes) exposed {1 0 0} planes and CuCe-NP (nanoparticles) exposed {1 1 1} planes). The results indicate that the {1 0 0} plane exhibits greater CuO dispersal capabilities due to electron transfer caused by stronger interactions produces an anchoring effect on CuO. This promotes increased contact between CO and CuO during the reaction, creating more CO adsorption sites and improving low temperature activity. Furthermore, effective electron transfer between CuO and {1 0 0} planes during reaction maintains Cu+ stability while widening the temperature window. In-situ spectroscopy and DFT calculations showed that the Cu+–CO bond strength is weakened by the enhanced interaction, which together with the excellent surface structure of CeO 2 -{1 0 0}, favours the direct desorption of CO 2. However, forming carbonate on CuCe-NP seems to be preferable. Various CO-PROX reaction pathways are suggested for different exposed crystal planes. Abstract

The hot deformation behavior of powder metallurgy Ti-5Al-5V-5Mo-3Cr (Ti-5553) alloy was investigated by isothermal compression test at the wide temperature range of 7 0 0 – 1 1 5 0 ∘ C, under an intermediate strain rate of 0.1 s − 1 , and with the sample deformation degree of 30%, 50% and 70%. Results suggested that the flow stress was very sensitive to the deformation variables and it decreased with increasing the deformation temperature. Flow localization occurred when the temperature was lower than 8 0 0 ∘ C, accompanied by the dynamic morphology changing of α phase. Dynamic recovery (DRV) features appeared when the temperature was over 8 5 0 ∘ C, while dynamic recrystallization (DRX) took a more important role than DRV for the alloy compressed at 9 0 0 – 1 0 0 0 ∘ C.
