111. Degradation of α-pinene oxide and [<F>2H7</F>]-2,5,6-trimethyl-hept-(2E)-enoic acid by Pseudomonas fluorescens NCIMB 11761

Abstract

When submerged cultured Pseudomonas fluorescens NCIMB 11761 was fed-batch supplemented with α-pinene oxide, a rapid formation of 2,6-dimethyl-5-methylene-hept-(2Z)-enal (I) (isonovalal) was observed. Biotransformation and isomerisation of (I) to the (2E)-isomer (II) (novalal) were enhanced by Lewatit OC 1064, a macroporous polystyrene adsorbent. Accelerated isomerisation in the presence of an amino donor (glycine) at pH 7.3 pointed to a merely chemical mechanism. A maximum yield of 48 g of aldehydes l−1 was achieved, but quantitative analysis of the volatile fraction showed that the molar conversion of the pinene oxide substrate reached no more than 67%. To fill this gap of the mass balance, the acidic fraction was isolated. It contained several compounds which suggested a β-oxidation-like catabolism starting from 2,6-dimethyl-5-methylene-hept-(2E)-enoic acid (III) (novalic acid). Using [2H7]-2,5,6-dimethyl-hept-(2E)-enoic acid as a conversion substrate and gas chromatography coupled to atomic emission detection and mass spectrometry a degradation pathway via labelled 3,4-dimethylpentenoic and methylpropanoic acids was evidenced. Abstract

Controversy exists as to whether chin tap force and bite force affect the duration of the electromyographic silent period following the jaw jerk reflex during isometric contraction of the elevator muscles of the mandible. This study demonstrates that statistical trends exist showing increased silent period duration for increased tap forces and decreased silent period duration with increased bite forces. 116. Interactions of 1-methylimidazole with ferriporphyrins; as studied by proton magnetic resonance

Abstract

Proton N.M.R. shifts, spin-lattice, and spin-spin relaxation times on bis(1-methylimidazole) complexes of low-spin ferriprotoporphyrin(IX)dimethylester and ferritetraphenylporphyrin in chloroform at various temperatures (213 K < T < 293 K) are reported. For the temperature dependence of the proton shifts considerable devitaions from normal Curie behaviour have been observed, which are analysed experimentally and theoretically. By comparison of the hyperfine coupling constant extracted from chemical shift data and independently from relaxation times, the non-Curie behaviour has been attributed to a pronounced temperature dependence of the Fermi contact interaction. It is demonstrated that second-order Zeeman mixing to the dipolar and contact interaction does not fully explain the experimentally observed deviations of proton shifts for the present systems. Therefore, an additional dynamic process is postulated and discussed.

Ein analytischer Verfahrensverbund aus Zentrifugation, Ultrafiltration und Elektrophorese ermöglicht die differenzierte Aufklärung der Verteilung von Spurenelementen in Blut. Die Zuordnung der Elementspuren zu definierten Serumfraktionen wurde nach Entwicklung eines präparativen (>-200 mg Protein) Isotachophoresesystems mit physiologischem Trenn-pH und einer speziellen Elutionseinrichtung zugänglich, wobei die native Konformation der Proteine in den getrennten Fraktionen erhalten bleibt.
