- Abstract
Muscle strength of older adults is one of the main compromised physical capabilities resulting from the aging process. Although the measurement of muscle strength of lower limbs is commonly suggested as a general criterion for the evaluation of their health, there is a need to use more specific tools to provide simple and objective assessment methods. The purpose of this study was to determine the strength of lower limbs through the Sit to Stand Test in a group of older adults called Historia Viva San Joaquín. Descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional study. Lower limb muscle strength was measured using the Sit to Stand Test in 67 older adults from the Historia Viva San Joaquín group. IBM SPSS 15 and Microsoft Excel 2108 were used for data processing, and then the Pearson coefficient correlated that data. The analysis did not indicate a statistically significant relationship between the number of repetitions and the sex of the participants (r = -0.033, p = 0.789). The relationship between repetitions and age showed a nonsignificant negative correlation (r = -0.192, p = 0.120), showing a slight decrease with age without statistical significance. In regard to the relationship between repetitions and BMI, it is negative and significant (r = -0.238, p = 0.052), and p value is slightly above the threshold.
