This study compares the beliefs and practices of Me xican university students with conventions of resume writing in English. Due to the nonexistence of a single definitive source on resume writing and the differences between conventions in English-speaking countries and in Mexico, students may make incorrect assumptions. Forty up-to-date, credible sources were surveyed to establish these conventions. A questionnaire on student beliefs and practices was given, and two student resumes were analyzed, one collected before a presentation of the conventions, and one after.The results show a lack of knowledge as to what constitutes an effective resume in English. The students were taught in school wrong elements and included them on their first resumes. However, these results must be interpreted according to the survey of forty sources, which revealed that English resume conventions are not as straightforward or uniform as one might expect. Students should not only be taught common conventions, but also conflicting viewpoints and the importance of tailoring their resumes to specific job offers. In this way, students can understand that there is no catch-all prescription for a resume, and that their own best judgement should be used for its composition.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many general hospitals have been transformed into designated infectious disease care facilities, where a large number of patients with COVID-19 infections have been treated and discharged. With declines in the number of hospitalizations, a major question for our healthcare systems, especially for these designated facilities, is how to safely resume hospital function after these patients have been discharged. Here, we take a designated COVID-19-care facility in Wuhan, China, as an example to share our experience in resuming hospital function while ensuring the safety of patients and medical workers. After more than 1200 patients with COVID-19 infections were discharged in late March, 2020, our hospital resumed function by setting up a three-level hospital infection management system with four grades of risk of exposure. Moreover, we also took measures to ensure the safety of medical personnel in different departments including clinics, wards, and operation rooms. After all patients with COVID-19 infections were discharged, during the five months of regular function from April to September in 2020, no positive cases have been found among more than 40,000 people in our hospital, including hospital staff and patients.

This article presents some reflections resulting from a broader research that sought to analyze the repercussions of Prova Brasil on the curriculum and teaching work in schools in the municipal networks of Campina Grande-PB and Pelotas-RS, understanding that external evaluations they have become one of the main technologies of reform and "modernization" of the State, in the service of the materialization and strengthening of neoliberal and neoconservative measures in the field of education. As a qualitative research, bibliographic review and documentary analysis were used, in addition to field research covering observations and semi-structured interviews with professionals working in each of the municipalities involved. As main results it was found that both municipalities have put in place policies of a managerial nature, which includes significant changes in the management of networks, with the active participation of actors from the private sector; under the justification of improving the results in external evaluations, especially Prova Brasil, they have been adopting their own evaluation policies in order to improve their performance at Ideb. This has opened up more space for the private sector, which provides advisory services, especially the Lemann Foundation. It was also observed that this process has intensified since the approval of the BNCC, which induces the alignment of management, evaluation and curriculum policies, with the necessary adaptation of schools and professionals to the standards imposed by it, reducing the spaces of autonomy and hindering the consolidation of democratic management in schools. In the text, the author's speech is systematized in a work table at the IX Curriculum Curriculum and Practices Colloquium promoted by the Curriculum Policies Research and Research Group (GEPPC) of the Faculty of Education of the Federal University of Paraíba in November 2020 The theme of the intervention was the implantation of the National Common Curricular Base - BNCC in Santa Catarina - a movement that in the state is being called Implementation of the Base Curriculum of the Territory of Santa Catarina. The points that stand out and guide the organization of this article are, respectively: a brief analysis of the Brazilian and Santa Catarina curriculum policy, both seen as aligned with the internationalizing discourses of a reformist transnational agenda; the mobilization of international privatist thinking in the production of BNCC in Brazil, and finally aspects of the recontextualization of BNCC texts in Santa Catarina. Santa Catarina is said to efficiently carry out its institutional / normative task, embracing the logic of national curricular policy, with some manifestation of criticism and resistance arising especially from academia and union spaces. Objective: The purpose of this commentary was to critically appraise the patellofemoral pain clinical practice guideline published by the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy in 2019 and to summarize their recommendations for chiropractic practice. Methods: Quality and reporting of this guideline was assessed with the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) instrument. Three reviewers independently scored between 1-7 (strongly disagree-strongly agree) for 23 items organized into six quality domains. Results: AGREE II quality domain scores ranged between 57%-98%, with overall quality of the recommendation rated 89%. The guideline contained evidence summaries and/or recommendations for three topics: impairment/function-based diagnosis; examination; and interventions. Conclusion: Based on its methodological quality, we recommend the use of this guideline for the examination, diagnosis, and management of patellofemoral pain in chiropractic practice. A summary of recommendations from this guideline is presented for use within the scope of chiropractic practice in Canada. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recruitment is a primary method of employing candidates for a job position and is a prime process of any organization. While this method is still the major process, it still lacks speed and accuracy of candidate choice due to the bulk and piles of resumes which are submitted for any job position. Consequently, a large number of resumes are either ignored or misplaced and only a fraction of them gets noticed. This research is aimed at developing a model to summarize the resumes by extracting important details which are essential to the recruiter and lists them in a file. The paper entails the details of the model for the summarization process and compare it with the previous methodologies. The comparison of the proposed methodology with the previous methodologies indicates the differences in the design and percentage improvement in the performance of the summarization process. Advanced practice nurses (APNs) now have great opportunities to serve in leadership positions for organizations, institutions of higher education, community and public agencies, and more. The need exists for APNs to have a full set of professional business documents readily available. Such common documents would extend beyond the professional business card and professional photograph to include the curriculum vitae, the resume, and the National Institutes of Health Biographical Sketch (biosketch) and a professional biosketch. In a society that communicates and connects through text, strengthening writing skills becomes a fundamental aspect in school. The purpose of this article is to identify the factors that allowed a Center for Digital Writing (CED) to operate as an institutional strategy to strengthen the academic writing. The method used was the case study. Two secondary education institutions participated, one public and one private, in the city of Medellín, Colombia. Questionnaires with open questions were applied to students, teachers, and tutors. In the results, the categories of academic writing counseling, institution integrated services, institutional projection and identity, promotion of services and curricular integration were addressed. In a CED, the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) goes beyond the teaching of tools usage, it entails strengthening the digital literacy processes from the areas and subjects of the school curriculum, where management, teachers, students and parents are involved. The conclusions confirm that recognizing the CED as part of the educational community generates actions aimed at its maintenance and sustainability, as a component of the institutional educational project. In addition, the integration of the CED with the directive and academic management is a factor that contributes to the institutional differentiation and sustainability of the strategy over time. In this article we present and discuss the value of the ethical dimension present as articulator in the organization of pedagogical work. Whereas Ethics is disfigured by the events and understandings of today's society, in which teachers hide behind masks as proletarians of unnecessary knowledge and useless to capital, analyze the ethical dimension and its importance for the process and educational practice presents itself as an appreciation of the human being and all its manifestations. Understanding the School as a space for interactions, the curriculum becomes a cultural artifact for the teacher to achieve his goal with a humanizing education that aims at the emancipation of the human being. Background Occipital lobe strokes are characterised by a visual field deficit (VFD) and the absence of a motor deficit. A persistent VFD may have significant long-term implications for a patient and their lifestyle. Our aim was to assess the overall impact of these events particularly patients' ability to return to driving. Methods All patients admitted with an acute occipital lobe stroke to a Dublin teaching hospital in 2017 were identified. Case notes were retrospectively reviewed to identify patients' pre-stroke function, stroke pathology, neurological losses and further vascular events. A follow up phone call was made 18 months after the event to assess if previous drivers had returned to driving and required the installation of formalised home supports after discharge. Results In 2017, 37 of 311 stroke patients admitted had a confirmed occipital lobe stroke. 33 of these patients (89.1%) had ischemic events. The median age was 76 (50-93) years old. Twenty-nine patients were able to undergo formal cognitive testing; the median Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) was 18 (2-29). 15 patients (40.5%) had underlying Atrial Fibrillation with one (6.7%) of this cohort being identified post discharge; 14 (85.7%) of those patients with ischemic strokes were anticoagulated for atrial fibrillation. The median length of stay was 33.9 days, with a range of 2-391 days. Further vascular events occurred in 2 (5.8%) of the patients. A follow up phone call was made to the 15 patients who drove prior to their event. 12 patients (80%) could not resume driving due to persistent VFD. One (7%) of the previous drivers had a home care package installed since discharge. Conclusion A persistent VFD results in long term problems including an increased risk of further vascular events, a reduction in overall independence and quality of life following an occipital lobe stroke. This study investigated the résumé factors that predict candidate selection for job interviews. To determine the key factors, 200 qualified résumés for a position from a pool of more than 1,000 résumés were randomly selected and analyzed. Regression analyses determined the factors that led to actual candidate interviews. In order of importance, findings indicate that candidates with (1) relevant, current, and continual work experience; (2) a college degree or enrollment in college; and (3) achievements listed on their résumés were more likely to be selected by hiring managers for employment interviews. Abstract With the success of the electronic recruitment, now it is easier to find a job offer and apply for it. However, due to this same success, nowadays, human resource managers tend to receive high volumes of applications for each job offer. These applications turn into large quantities of documents, known as résumés or curricula vitae, that need to be processed quickly and correctly. To reduce the time necessary to process the résumés, human resource managers have been working with the scientific community to create systems that automate their ranking. Until today, most of these systems are based on the comparison of job offers and résumés. Nevertheless, this comparison is impossible to do in data sets where job offers are no longer available, as it happens in this work. We present two methods to rank résumés that do not use job offers or any semantic resource, unlike existing state-of-the-art systems. The methods are based on what we call Inter-Résumé Proximity , which is the lexical similarity between only résumés sent by candidates in response to the same job offer. Besides, we propose the use of Relevance Feedback, at general and lexical levels to improve the ranking of résumés. Relevance Feedback is applied using techniques based on similarity coefficients and vocabulary scoring. All the methods have been tested on a large corpus of 171 real selection processes, which correspond to more than 14,000 résumés. The developed methods can rank correctly, in average, 93% of the résumés sent to each job posting. The outcomes presented here show that it is not necessary to use job offers or semantic resources to provide high quality results. Furthermore, we observed that résumés have particular characteristics that as ensemble, work as a facial composite and provide more information about the job posting than the job offer. Using data from 88 students, 20 advisers, and 24 hirers about U.S. résumés, this article focuses on face of the company, the concept of employers' evaluating how well applicants might represent a company. The results of applying rhetorical listening's identification–disidentification to "face" suggested two outcomes and their implications. First, primary audiences invoked secondary audiences to the point in which they conflated, suggesting that résumés should incorporate secondary audiences. Second, hirers sometimes violated their own beliefs about diversity hiring because of audiences they invoked, suggesting that because invoking audience can perpetuate inequitable hiring practices, hirers should be more nuanced about the audiences they choose. ZB MED – Information Center for Life Sciences is the largest library worldwide in the field of life sciences. From October 2016 to June 2018 Dietrich Nelle was its interim managing director. In this interview, he informs about ZB MED’s evaluation, realignment and cooperations. Furthermore, he speaks about open access, German Medical Science, research data management and research activities at ZB MED. Moreover, Nelle explains the position paper “Academic libraries 2025”, which he co-authored, and gives insight into his motivation to become provisional head of ZB MED. Finally, he drafts a possible way for the instituion’s resumption into the Leibniz Association in January 2022.

The spontaneous elimination rate of ureteral stones decreases with their size, but also in function of their location. The objectives of stone surveillance are to detect the occurrence of a complication (e.g., fever, clinical tolerance) and to verify the potential stone migration/elimination. The use of urological procedures and the choice of technique are based on many different factors. Kidney stone surveillance is proposed mainly to people with low risk of progression or complications (size<4mm and/or lower calyx location and non-infection stone). Surveillance may be extended to patients with larger stones, in function of the clinical context and comorbidities. Conversely, a urological procedure may also be proposed to patients with stones<4mm for professional (e.g., soldier, pilot, expatriate) or social reasons or if travelling is planned. The choice of technique is based on the stone composition (if already known) and density, the advantages and limitations of each technique, and also the clinical context, while trying to choose the least invasive procedure for a stone-free objective. METHODOLOGY: These recommendations were developed using two methods: the Clinical Practice Recommendations method (CPR) and the ADAPTE method, depending on whether the question was considered in the European Association of Urology (EAU) recommendations (https://uroweb.org/guidelines/urolithiasis) [EAU 2022] and their adaptability to the French context. Due to its key role in the diffusion of knowledge in the academy, the abstract has been studied regarding aspects such as its lexical-grammatical performance and rhetorical organization. However, the ordering of these findings has not been made from the disciplinary view of biology. The objective of this study is to contribute with information regarding the writing of the abstract in the discipline of biology; in particular, regarding the rhetorical organization of the discursive genre, the author's positioning and the coherence relations. For this purpose, an articulation of the results of several empirical studies is presented. As a result of this bibliographic review, a synthesis of the characteristics of this genre in biology is presented, among which the mandatory moves of "method" and "product", its frequent writing in the first-person plural and the use of subordinated clauses to express author´s subjective evaluations. The paper deals with the features of selection of lexical and semantic means of forming semantic cohesion of the genre of résumé in the German and Russian linguistic cultures. Officially, résumé as a genre of business discourse is characterized by a certain thematic field formed around a specific thematic dominant. Particular attention is paid to the definition of the dominant thematic nomination of résumé, as well as to the identification of lexical units that form the subject field of the genre. Detection of the major thematic nominations is made with the help of computer program for linguistic analysis and processing of texts. The paper also presents the analysis of thematic nominations based on their discursive, stylistic, morphological and semantic characteristics. The analysis indicates the existence of different ways of updating the semantic values that characterize the features of professional and labour activity and forming the overall thematic genre field of résumé in the German and Russian linguistic cultures.

The résumé is a fixture within employment counseling, often viewed as a necessary product for securing employment. Résumés can also be a powerful vehicle for facilitating the development of positive career identities. The complex interplay of negative societal narratives with personal narratives can make the development of a positive identity, and the execution of an employment search, difficult for clients who have work histories complicated by personal and economic challenges (e.g., homelessness, intimate partner violence, histories of incarceration). The authors present résumé counseling as an opportunity for clients to develop stories of strength, reveal stories of difficulty, solidify a positive career identity, and rewrite positive future narratives. This article describes the strength-based narrative approach to résumé and employment counseling, illustrates its application with a hypothetical case, and offers practice recommendations. There is currently much research activity aimed at synaptic plasticity methods for spiking neural networks. While many methods have been proposed, there are few that provide for supervised learning. A fundamental premise of the work reported here is that the network topology is key to defining the network’s capabilities: the topology IS the algorithm. Hence, learning at the level of the whole network is an emergent phenomenon of the learning mechanism operating on individual synapses and the topology. Therefore, the topology and the learning mechanism(s) must be designed together, and evolutionary computation (EC) is a suitable technology for this. We report on initial experiments on a relatively simple test problem, the tonic burster, using several types of learning including supervised. We see that EC can locate seemingly good solutions that actually do not solve the desired task; they “cheat” by simply exploiting the supervisory signals. A simple modification of the train-test protocol can solve this. We introduce an approach we call “artificial neurology” for systematically examining the behaviour of a SNN in order to understand how it achieves its performance. This article presents the results of a comparative study of summaries written by secondary- and university-level students enrolled in either the FL1 or FL2 program in a Canadian province outside Québec. The purpose is to compare the use of connector words in these summaries. To do so, the connector words were categorised according to four types of relationships, specifically addition, causality, opposition, and chronology. The frequency with which these words were used in the summaries was analysed by program and academic level, as well as compared to their use in the source text. The study showed differences in the frequency with which causal and temporal connecting words were used between the two programs as well as among the different academic levels. However, when connector use was adjusted for the length of the summaries, the only statistically significant differences were in the use of connector words for opposition, which increased at the university level. The study also showed that causal linking words were overused in summaries produced by all participants when compared to the source text. The main goal of this research was to explore the ways people portray themselves in resumes, labelled as “unsuitable” after the first review of the recruiters in a manufacturing company in Serbia. The form and the content of fifty resumes were analyzed using qualitative content analysis, inductive approach. Personal life stories described in an intimate and submissive tone were predominantly present in resumes, compared to the description of work experience and competencies. Concerning the content of the resumes, two core categories emerged - I as a worker and Employment needs. Finding support in the literature dealing with postsocialist transformation in Serbia and Hofstede’s theory, results are interpreted as pointing to the opposition of two value systems in Serbia: that of the authors of “unsuitable” resumes, reflecting collectivistic and feminine values and that of the job market in Serbia, reflecting manly individualistic and masculine values. The authors of "unsuitable" resumes display interdependent self-construal, use defensive impression management strategies and their need to work is exclusively financial in nature. Finally, the need for better understanding between job candidates and employers, having different value systems, especially in the context of actual socio-economic changes in Serbia is discussed. Genres represent purposive and staged ways of communicating in a culture and enacting a range of important institutional practices. Genre studies have paved the way for understanding the way discourse is used in academic, professional, and institutional contexts. This paper analyzed the psycholinguistic realization and drew out socio-cultural imprints in the construction of application letter and resume in the Philippine setting. Qualitative and quantitative methods were employed in the analysis of job application documents representing different professions to determine the generic structure and the linguistic features of the moves and strategies that accomplish the communicative functions of the genres. Employers' group survey and job interview extracts were also used to cross-validate and provide snapshots on the interpretations made. A seven-move and a five-move generic structure occurring in a flexible sequence define the composition of job application letter and resume, respectively. The construction of these two types of discourse is influenced and constrained by the applicant's psycholinguistic repertoire, professional background, and socio-cultural milieu. A genre-based pedagogy is recommended to sensitize Filipinos of the existing genres and textlinguistic variations in the workplace.
