Demand responsive industrial loads with high thermal inertia have potential to provide ancillary service for frequency regulation in the power market. To capture the benefit, this study proposes a new hierarchical framework to coordinate the demand responsive industrial loads with thermal power plants in an industrial park for secondary frequency control. In the proposed framework, demand responsive loads and generating resources are coordinated for optimal dispatch in two-time scales: (1) the regulation reserve of the industrial park is optimally scheduled in a day-ahead manner. The stochastic regulation signal is replaced by the specific extremely trajectories. Furthermore, the extremely trajectories are achieved by the day-ahead predicted regulation mileage. The resulting benefit is to transform the stochastic reserve scheduling problem into a deterministic optimization; (2) a model predictive control strategy is proposed to dispatch the industry park in real time with an objective to maximize the revenue. The proposed technology is tested using a real-world industrial electrolysis power system based upon Pennsylvania, Jersey, and Maryland (PJM) power market. Various scenarios are simulated to study the performance of the proposed approach to enable industry parks to provide ancillary service into the power market. The simulation results indicate that an industrial park with a capacity of 500 MW can provide up to 40 MW ancillary service for participation in the secondary frequency regulation. The proposed strategy is demonstrated to be capable of maintaining the economic and secure operation of the industrial park while satisfying performance requirements from the real world regulation market.

Microgrids have become increasingly popular in the United States. Supported by favorable federal and local policies, microgrid projects can provide greater energy stability and resilience within a project site or community. This paper reviews major federal, state, and utility-level policies driving microgrid development in the United States. Representative U.S. demonstration projects are selected and their technical characteristics and non-technical features are introduced. The paper discusses trends in the technology development of microgrid systems as well as microgrid control methods and interactions within the electricity market. Software tools for microgrid design, planning, and performance analysis are illustrated with each tool's core capability. Finally, the paper summarizes the successes and lessons learned during the recent expansion of the U.S. microgrid industry that may serve as a reference for other countries developing their own microgrid industries.

IntroductionLow physical activity (LPA) is associated with several major non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and premature mortality. In this study, we aimed to assess the global burden and trends in disease attributable to LPA (DALPA) from 1990 to 2019.MethodsAnnual age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and death rates of DALPA [all-cause and five specific causes (ischaemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus, stroke, colon and rectal cancer, and breast cancer)] by sex, age, geographical region and social deprivation index (SDI) score from 1990 to 2019 were available from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2019. The estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were calculated to quantify the changing trend. A generalized linear model (GLM) was used to explore the relationship between DALYs/death rates of DALPA and sociodemographic factors.ResultsGlobally, in 2019, the age-standardized DALYs and death rates of DALPA were 198.42/100,000 (95% UI: 108.16/100,000–360.32/100,000) and 11.10/100,000 (95% UI: 5.66/100,000–19.51/100,000), respectively. There were 15.74 million (8.51–28.61) DALYs and 0.83 million (0.43–1.47) deaths attributable to LPA. Overall, age-standardized DALYs and death rates presented significant downward trends with EAPCs [−0.68% (95% CI: −0.85– −0.50%) for DALYs and −1.00% (95% CI: −1.13– −0.86%) for deaths] from 1990 to 2019. However, age-standardized DALYs and death rates of diabetes mellitus attributable to LPA were substantially increased [EAPC: 0.76% (95% CI: 0.70–0.82%) for DALYs and 0.33% (95% CI: 0.21–0.51%) for deaths]. In the 15–49 age group, DALPA presented significant upward trends [EAPC: 0.74% (95% CI: 0.58–0.91%) for DALYs and 0.31% (95% CI: 0.1–0.51%) for deaths]. The GLM revealed that higher gross domestic product and current health expenditure (% of GDP) were negatively associated with DALYs and death rates of DALPA.ConclusionAlthough global age-standardized DALYs and death rates of DALPA presented downward trends, they still cause a heavy burden worldwide. These rates showed upward trends in the diabetic and 15–49 age groups, which need more attention and health interventions.

Background: Chondrosarcoma (CHS), a bone malignancy, poses a significant challenge due to its heterogeneous nature and resistance to conventional treatments. There is a clear need for advanced prognostic instruments that can integrate multiple prognostic factors to deliver personalized survival predictions for individual patients. This study aimed to develop a novel prediction tool based on recursive partitioning analysis (RPA) to improve the estimation of overall survival for patients with CHS. Methods: Data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database were analyzed, including demographic, clinical, and treatment details of patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2018. Using C5.0 algorithm, decision trees were created to predict survival probabilities at 12, 24, 60, and 120 months. The performance of the models was assessed through confusion scatter plot, accuracy rate, receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve, and area under ROC curve (AUC). Results: The study identified tumor histology, surgery, age, visceral (brain/liver/lung) metastasis, chemotherapy, tumor grade, and sex as critical predictors. Decision trees revealed distinct patterns for survival prediction at each time point. The models showed high accuracy (82.40%–89.09% in training group, and 82.16%–88.74% in test group) and discriminatory power (AUC: 0.806–0.894 in training group, and 0.808–0.882 in test group) in both training and testing datasets. An interactive web‐based shiny APP (URL: https://yangxg1209.shinyapps.io/chondrosarcoma%5fsurvival%5fprediction/) was developed, simplifying the survival prediction process for clinicians. Conclusions: This study successfully employed RPA to develop a user‐friendly tool for personalized survival predictions in CHS. The decision tree models demonstrated robust predictive capabilities, with the interactive application facilitating clinical decision‐making. Objective Methods Results Conclusion To evaluate the safety and efficacy of myomectomy for recurrent uterine fibroids (UFs) after high‐intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation.This was a retrospective study. Patients who underwent abdominal myomectomy (AM) and laparoscopic myomectomy (LM) from January 2018 to December 2021 at the Three Gorges Hospital of Chongqing University were included. Among them, 73 had undergone prior HIFU ablation (Group 1), while 120 had not undergone HIFU (Group 2). Outcome measures included operating time, estimated blood loss (EBL), blood transfusion, postoperative activity times (PAT), duration of hospital stay (DOHS), and complications.The operating time was 90.0 min (70.5, 115.0) for Group 1 and 110.0 min (81.5, 130.0) for Group 2 (P < 0.05). During all AM pathways, there were no significant differences observed between the two groups in EBL, blood transfusion, PAT, DOHS, and complications; however, operating time was shorter in Group 1. The operating time, EBL, blood transfusion, PAT, DOHS, and complications were similar in both groups during LM pathway. During the follow‐up 40 (range: 24–53) months, the rate of relief, recurrence, and reintervention in Groups 1 and 2 was 78.1% versus 74.1%, 14.6% versus 16.4%, and 3.7% versus 2.6%, respectively (P > 0.05).Myomectomy is a safe and effective surgical method for treating recurrent UFs after HIFU. Myomectomy for treating recurrent UFs resulted in a shorter operative and hospital stay, reduced blood loss, faster postoperative recovery, and fewer complications, better symptom relief rates, and lower risk of recurrence or reintervention. In the field of perovskite optoelectronics, developing hole-transporting materials (HTMs) on the spiro[fluorene-9,9′-xanthene] (SFX) platform is one of the current research focuses. The SFX inherits the merits of spirobifluorene in terms of the configuration and property, but it is more easily derivatized and regulated by virtue of its binary structure. In this work, we design and synthesize four isomeric SFX-based HTMs, namely m-SFX-mF, p-SFX-mF, m-SFX-oF, and p-SFX-oF, through varying the positions of fluorination on the peripheral aniline units and their substitutions on the SFX core, and the optoelectronic performance of the resulting HTMs is evaluated in both perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) by the vacuum thermal evaporating hole-transporting layers (HTLs). The HTM p-SFX-oF exhibits an improved power conversion efficiency of 15.21% in an inverted PSC using CH3NH3PbI3 as an absorber, benefiting from the deep HOMO level and good HTL/perovskite interface contact. Meanwhile, the HTM m-SFX-mF provides a maximum external quantum efficiency of 3.15% in CsPb(Br/Cl)3-based PeLEDs, which is attributed to its perched HOMO level and shrunken band-gap for facilitating charge carrier injection and then exciton combination. Through elucidating the synergistic position effect of fluorination on aniline units and their substitutions on the SFX core, this work lays the foundation for developing low-cost and efficient HTMs in the future. Coordination polymers (CPs) are organo-inorganic porous materials consisting of metal ions or clusters and organic linkers. These compounds have attracted attention for use in the fluorescence detection of pollutants. Here, two Zn-based mixed-ligand-bearing CPs, [Zn2(DIN)2(HBTC2−)2] (CP-1) and [Zn(DIN)(HBTC2−)]·ACN·H2O (CP-2) (DIN = 1,4-di(imidazole-1-yl)naphthalene, H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, and ACN = acetonitrile), were synthesized under solvothermal conditions. CP-1 and CP-2 were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Solid-state fluorescence analysis revealed an emission peak at 350 nm upon excitation at 225 and 290 nm. Fluorescence sensing tests showed that CP-1 was highly efficient, sensitive, and selective for detecting Cr2O72− at 225 and 290 nm, whereas I− was only detected well at an excitation of 225 nm. CP-1 detected pesticides differently at excitation wavelengths of 225 and 290 nm; the highest quenching rates were for nitenpyram at 225 nm and imidacloprid at 290 nm. The quenching process may occur via the inner filter effect and fluorescence resonance energy transfer.

The effects of hypereutectic Al-17Si-4Cu-0.5Mg alloy were prepared by semisolid extrusion. The effect of solution time on microstructure and properties of hypereutectic Al-17Si-4Cu-0.5Mg alloy was studied. Results show that spheroidization occurs in the Si phase with the increase of solution time. When the solution time reaches 10 h, the circularity of eutectic Si is 0.72. High concentration of Cu element is enriched around Si phase in as cast state. After solution for 1 h, Cu element is rapidly dissolved into the matrix. As solution time is increased from 1 h to 16 h, the diffraction peak intensity of θ(Al2Cu) and Q(Al5Si6Cu2Mg8) phases on the XRD curve is decreased, and the dislocation density in the alloy matrix is greatly reduced. After aging treatment at 180℃ is performed on the solution treated samples, the θ' and Q' phases precipitate. As the solution time increases, the alloy strength value shows a "double peak" phenomenon. After solution treatment for 1 h, the tensile strength of the alloy reaches 269 MPa and the yield strength is 233 MPa. Compared with the unheated alloy, they are increased by 43.3% and 42.7%, respectively. This is mainly because there is still larger dislocation density in the matrix at the initial stage of solution, and the precipitation has stronger pinning hindrance to the dislocation after aging treatment. When the solution time is 10 h, the tensile strength and yield strength of the alloy reach 311 MPa and 263 MPa, respectively. The roundness of Si phase and the strengthening effect of fine precipitates are the main reasons for the formation of the second strength peak.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common chronic kidney disease. Accumulation of glucose and metabolites activates resident macrophages in kidneys. Resident macrophages play diverse roles on diabetic kidney injuries by releasing cytokines/chemokines, recruiting peripheral monocytes/macrophages, enhancing renal cell injuries (podocytes, mesangial cells, endothelial cells and tubular epithelial cells), and macrophage-myofibroblast transition. The differentiation and cross-talks of macrophages ultimately result renal inflammation and fibrosis in DN. Emerging evidence shows that targeting macrophages by suppressing macrophage activation/transition, and macrophages-cell interactions may be a promising approach to attenuate DN. In the review, we summarized the diverse roles of macrophages and the cross-talks to other cells in DN, and highlighted the therapeutic potentials by targeting macrophages.
