Olaquindox (OLA), a potent antibacterial agent, has been widely used as a feed additive and growth promoter in animal husbandry. Our previous study has shown that OLA administration in female mice could markedly cause sub-fertility. Here we established the model in male mice to investigate the toxic effects of OLA on mammalian spermatozoa quality and fetal development. After continuous 45 days of OLA gavage, the dosage of 60 mg/kg/day (high dose) significantly affected body weight, organ weights and coefficients, and the morphology of the testis seminiferous tubule in male mice. Dosage of 60 mg/kg/day also reduced sperm count, motility, and viability. OLA at both low-dose (5 mg/kg/day) and high-dose induced peroxidation, early apoptosis, and abnormal mitochondrial membrane potential in sperm. Significantly, high-dose OLA impaired in vitro fertilized embryo development, indicated by the decreased percentages of 2-cell and blastocyst formation. Surprisingly, the natural fertility of males was unaffected after OLA gavage, which was indicated by the comparable litter size after mating. However, paternal gavage of OLA significantly decreased the survival rate of the offspring from the age of 4 weeks. In sum, our study showed that OLA gavage in male mice damages sperm quality and offspring survival, illustrating the use of OLA as a feed additive should be strictly restricted.

Abstract We assessed whether comparative efficacy and safety of biphasic insulin aspart 30 (BIAsp 30) plus metformin versus BIAsp 30 monotherapy differed for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) inadequately controlled with oral antidiabetic drugs with different cardiovascular risk scores and different body mass indexes (BMI) by performing a post hoc analysis of the randomized controlled MERIT study. In the MERIT study, eligible patients were randomized 1:1 to receive BIAsp 30 plus metformin or BIAsp 30 for 16 weeks. Patients in the 2 treatment groups were classified into “low” and “high” risk subgroups based on their GloboRisk scores and into “BMI ≤ 26 kg/m2”and “BMI > 26 kg/m2” subgroups. Primary efficacy endpoint was between-treatments comparison of HbA1c changes from baseline for these 2 sets of subgroups. Between-treatments comparisons of secondary efficacy and safety endpoints were also performed. We found that BIAsp 30 plus metformin led to significantly higher percentage of high-risk patients achieving HbA1c target

To explore the independent and combined effects of ESRα methylation and progesterone on impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), a case-control study including 901 subjects was conducted. Generalized linear models were performed to assess the independent and combined effects of ESRα methylation and progesterone on IFG or T2DM. Methylation level of cytosine-phosphoguanine (CpG) 1 in the estrogen receptor α (ESRα) gene was positively related to IFG in both men (odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval (CI)): 1.77 (1.05, 3.00)) and postmenopausal women (OR (95% CI): 1.82 (1.09, 3.04)), whereas the association between CpG 1 and T2DM was not significant. Positive associations of progesterone with IFG and T2DM were observed in both men (OR (95% CI): 2.03 (1.18, 3.49) and 3.00 (1.63, 5.52)) and postmenopausal women (OR (95% CI): 2.13 (1.27, 3.56) and 3.30 (1.85, 5.90)). Participants with high CpG 1 methylation plus high progesterone had an increased risk of IFG and T2DM, both in men and postmenopausal women. ESRα methylation and progesterone were positively associated with IFG, and the positive association between progesterone and T2DM was also found. Importantly, we firstly found the combined effects of ESRα methylation and progesterone on IFG and T2DM.

Sugars Will Eventually be Exported Transporter (SWEET) gene family plays indispensable roles in plant physiological activities, development processes, and responses to biotic and abiotic stresses, but no information is known for roses. In this study, a total of 25 RcSWEET genes were identified in Rosa chinensis ‘Old Blush’ by genome-wide analysis and clustered into four subgroups based on their phylogenetic relationships. The genomic features, including gene structures, conserved motifs, and gene duplication among the chromosomes of RcSWEET genes, were characterized. Seventeen types of cis-acting elements among the RcSWEET genes were predicted to exhibit their potential regulatory roles during biotic and abiotic stress and hormone responses. Tissue-specific and cold-response expression profiles based on transcriptome data showed that SWEETs play widely varying roles in development and stress tolerance in two rose species. Moreover, the different expression patterns of cold-response SWEET genes were verified by qRT-PCR between the moderately cold-resistant species R. chinensis ‘Old Blush’ and the extremely cold-resistant species R. beggeriana. Especially, SWEET2a and SWEET10c exhibited species differences after cold treatment and were sharply upregulated in the leaves of R. beggeriana but not R. chinensis ‘Old Blush’, indicating that these two genes may be the crucial candidates that participate in cold tolerance in R. beggeriana. Our results provide the foundation for function analysis of the SWEET gene family in roses, and will contribute to the breeding of cold-tolerant varieties of roses.

NH3 emissions are an environmental issue that is of wide concern in livestock production. In intensive livestock farming, it is necessary to study outdoor ammonia concentrations under various conditions to maximize the protection of livestock caretakers’ health in and around the facilities. In this study, the ammonia concentrations outside smart broiler chambers in 60 scenarios, with conditions including 4 broiler chamber densities, 3 wind directions, and 5 outlet emission intensities, were simulated based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology. The results show that (1) outdoor ammonia tends to accumulate near the outlet when the wind direction angle is small, while it has a wider range of influence when the angle is vertical; (2) building a smart broiler chamber cluster for intensive livestock farming is environmentally friendly; and (3) keeping the ammonia outlet perpendicular to the local dominant wind direction can effectively prevent high concentrations of ammonia around the chambers. In practical applications, the conclusions of this study can be used to arrange the layout and direction of smart broiler chamber clusters.

Geothermal energy is a type of renewable energy that has rich reserves, is clean, environmentally friendly and has been widely used in the heating industry. The single-well closed-loop geothermal system is a technology with the characteristics of “taking heat without taking water” and is mainly used for geothermal energy heating. Although the heating requirements in the cold region of Northeast China are urgent, the traditional heating mode not only has high economic costs but also causes serious damage to the environment. Therefore, it is of important practical significance to change the heating structure and develop and utilize geothermal energy for heating according to local conditions. In this study, the actual operating single-well geothermal system in the Songyuan area of Jilin Province is used as a case study, and a numerical model is established based on the T2WELL simulation program. The flow production temperature and heat extraction response law of the single-well system in the M1 and M2 wells are contrasted and analyzed under the three key factors of geothermal gradient and injection temperature and flow rate. Based on the simulation results, an optimized development and utilization plan for the M1 and M2 wells is proposed. These results provide a theoretical reference and heating potential evaluation for the promotion of single-well geothermal systems in Northeast China. Taking the geothermal gradient of 4.2 ° C/hm as an example, after 30 years of operation, the heat extraction of the M1 well is 406 kW, and that of the M2 well is 589 kW. Compared with the M1 well, although the M2 well has higher heat extraction, the radial variation in reservoir temperature is more than 50 m under long-term operation, which is not conducive to long-term development and utilization.

In order to effectively carry out the heavy overload monitoring and maintenance of public transformers in the distribution network, ensure the reliability of the distribution network power supply, and improve customer satisfaction with electricity consumption, this paper presents a short-term heavy overload forecasting method for public transformers based on the LSTM-XGBOOST combined model. The model extracts heavy overload feature variables from four dimensions, including basic parameter information, weather, time, and recent load, and constructs a short-term second highest load prediction model based on the LSTM algorithm to obtain the predicted value of the second highest load rate. After aggregating the heavy overload feature variables and the predicted second highest load rate, the XGboost algorithm is employed to construct a short-term heavy overload prediction model for public transformers to judge whether the public transformers display heavy overload. The test results show that this method has high accuracy in short-term heavy overload forecasting, and can effectively assist in the key monitoring and control of heavy overload in public transformers.

There is an urgent need for novel processes that can integrate different functional nanostructures onto specific substrates, so as to meet the fast-growing need for broad applications in nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, and flexible optoelectronics. Existing direct-lithography methods are difficult to use on flexible, nonplanar, and biocompatible surfaces. Therefore, this fabrication is usually accomplished by nanotransfer printing. However, large-scale integration of multiscale nanostructures with unconventional substrates remains challenging because fabrication yields and quality are often limited by the resolution, uniformity, adhesivity, and integrity of the nanostructures formed by direct transfer. Here, we proposed a resist-based transfer strategy enabled by near-zero adhesion, which was achieved by molecular modification to attain a critical surface energy interval. This approach enabled the intact transfer of wafer-scale, ultrathin-resist nanofilms onto arbitrary substrates with mitigated cracking and wrinkling, thereby facilitating the in situ fabrication of nanostructures for functional devices. Applying this approach, fabrication of three-dimensional-stacked multilayer structures with enhanced functionalities, nanoplasmonic structures with ∼10 nm resolution, and MoS _2 -based devices with excellent performance was demonstrated on specific substrates. These results collectively demonstrated the high stability, reliability, and throughput of our strategy for optical and electronic device applications.

Objective: Previous studies found that Wnt7b played a unique and indispensable role in the process of osteoblast differentiation and could accelerate the repair of bone loss. However, what is the role of Wnt7B in osteogenesis? Is it possible to increase the expression of Wnt7b to promote the repair of skull defects? This study intends to provide the basic data for the application of Wnt7b in the treatment of craniomaxillofacial bone repair. Methods: A calvarial defect mouse model that could induce Wnt7b overexpression was established. Three days after the operation, the mice in each group were intraperitoneally injected with tamoxifen (TAM) or oil eight times every other day. There were three groups. The TAMc group (R26Wnt7b/Wnt7b) was injected with tamoxifen. The Oil group (3.2 kb Col1-Cre-ERT2; R26Wnt7b/Wnt7b) was injected with oil. The TAM group (3.2 kb Col1-Cre-ERT2; R26Wnt7b/Wnt7b) was injected with tamoxifen. Four weeks after the surgery, micro-CT scanning was utilized to observe new bone formation and compare the ability to form new bone around the defect area. Results: Four weeks after the operation, bone healing conditions were measured by using micro-CT scanning. The defect area of the TAM group was smaller than that of the other groups. Similarly, the bone volume fraction (BV/TV) significantly increased (p < 0.05), the trabecular number (Tb.N) increased, and the trabecular separation (Tb.Sp) decreased. Conclusions: Wnt7b participates in the bone formation process after calvarial damage, indicating the important role of Wnt7b in osteogenesis.

Picking the reflection horizon is an important step in velocity inversion and seismic interpretation. Manual picking is time-consuming and no longer suitable for current large-scale seismic data processing. Automatic algorithms using different seismic attributes such as instantaneous phase or dip attributes have been proposed. However, the computed attributes are usually inaccurate near discontinuities. The waveforms in the horizontal direction often change dramatically, which makes it difficult to track a horizon using the similarity of attributes. In this paper, we propose a novel method for automatic horizon picking using multiple seismic attributes and the Markov decision process (MDP). For the design of the MDP model, the decision time and state are defined as the horizontal and vertical spatial position on a seismic image, respectively. The reward function is defined in multi-dimensional feature attribute space. Multiple attributes can highlight different aspects of a seismic image and therefore overcome the limitations of the single-attribute MDP through the cross-constraint of multiple attributes. The optimal decision is made by searching the largest state value function in the reward function space. By considering cumulative reward, the lateral continuity of a seismic image can be effectively considered, and the impacts of abnormal waveform changes or bad traces in local areas for automatic horizon picking can be effectively avoided. An effective implementation scheme is designed for picking multiple reflection horizons. The proposed method has been successfully tested on both synthetic and field data.

As an important remote sensing technology, millimeter-wave radar is used for environmental sensing in many fields due to its advantages of all-day, all-weather operation. With the increasing use of radars, inter-radar interference becomes increasingly critical. Severe mutual interference degrades radar signal quality and affects the performance of post-processing, e.g., synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging and target tracking. Aiming to deal with mutual interference, we propose an interference mitigation method based on variational mode decomposition (VMD). With the characteristics that the target is a single-frequency sine wave and the interference is a broadband signal, VMD is used for decomposing the radar received signal and separating the target from the interference. Interference mitigation is then implemented in each decomposed mode, and an interference-free signal is obtained through the reconstruction process. Simulation results of multi-target scenarios demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing decomposition-based methods. This conclusion is also confirmed by the experimental results on real data.

The impacts of land use/cover changes (LUCCs) on groundwater resources are a global issue. The Shiyang River Basin of China is a typical, ecologically fragile area. Focusing on the Wuwei sub-basin of the central plain, this study analyzed typical remote sensing image data for 17 specific dates since 1970. Before the Comprehensive Treatment Program in 2007, the area of natural oases decreased at a rate of 16.25 km2/year, while the area of farmland expanded at a rate of 13.85 km2/year. The farmland expansion preferentially occurred in low-vegetation-coverage oases, where the groundwater depth increased from 4 to 20 m. The consumption of groundwater increased from 7319.5 × 104 m3/year to 12,943.2 × 104 m3/year. During the period 2008–2018, the areas of both the natural oases and farmland decreased at rates of 2.57 km2/year and 8.99 km2/year, respectively. The groundwater level rose significantly in the south and west, as well as near the main river channel. Groundwater consumption has been restored to 7270.4 × 104 m3/year. Only 0.12 km2 of every 1.17 km2 of the original natural oases were restored through the natural farmland–natural oases conversion process. Groundwater depth increased significantly with the continuous expansion of farmland. Since the farmland area was effectively controlled, the trend of groundwater-level decline was significantly improved. These findings provide scientific support for the ecological restoration and reconstruction of oases, as well as an efficient and balanced development of river basin water resources.

Abstract Background Haem is a key metabolic factor in the life cycle of the malaria parasite. In the blood stage, the parasite acquires host haemoglobin to generate amino acids for protein synthesis and the by-product haem for metabolic use. The malaria parasite can also synthesize haem de novo on its own. Plasmodium falciparum-specific histidine-rich protein 2 (PfHRP2) has a haem-binding site to mediate the formation of haemozoin, a biocrystallized form of haem aggregates. Notably, the gene regulates the mechanism of haemoglobin-derived haem metabolism and the de novo haem biosynthetic pathway in the Pfhrp2-disrupted parasite line during the intraerythrocytic stages. Methods The CRISPR/Cas9 system was used to disrupt the gene locus of Pfhrp2. DNA was extracted from the transgenic parasite, and PCR, Southern blotting and Western blotting were used to confirm the establishment of transgenic parasites. RNA-sequencing and comparative transcriptome analysis were performed to identify differences in gene expression between 3D7 and Pfhrp2 - -3D7 parasites. Results Pfhrp2 - transgenic parasites were successfully established by the CRISPR/Cas9 system. A total of 964, 1261, 3138, 1064, 2512 and 1778 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in the six comparison groups, respectively, with 373, 520, 1499, 353, 1253 and 742 of these DEGs upregulated and 591, 741, 1639, 711, 1259 and 1036 of them downregulated, respectively. Five DEGs related to haem metabolism and synthesis were identified in the comparison groups at six time points (0, 8, 16, 24, 32, and 40 h after merozoite invasion). The genes encoding delta-aminolevulinic acid synthetase and ferrochelatase, both related to haem biosynthesis, were found to be significantly upregulated in the comparison groups, and those encoding haem oxygenase, stromal-processing peptidase and porphobilinogen deaminase were found to be significantly downregulated. No GO terms were significantly enriched in haem-related processes (Q value = 1). Conclusion Our data revealed changes in the transcriptome expression profile of the Pfhrp2 - -3D7 parasite during the intraerythrocytic stages. The findings provide insight at the gene transcript level that will facilitate further research on and development of anti-malaria drugs.

Abstract In the CHY-frame for the tree-level amplitudes, the bi-adjoint scalar theory has played a fundamental role because it gives the on-shell Feynman diagrams for all other theories. Recently, an interesting generalization of the bi-adjoint scalar theory has been given in [1] by the “Labelled tree graphs”, which carries a lot of similarity comparing to the bi-adjoint scalar theory. In this note, we have investigated the Labelled tree graphs from two different angels. In the first part of the note, we have shown that we can organize all cubic Feynman diagrams produces by the Labelled tree graphs to the “effective Feynman diagrams”. In the new picture, the pole structure of the whole theory is more manifest. In the second part, we have generalized the action of “picking pole” in the bi-adjoint scalar theory to general CHY-integrands which produce only simple poles.

In the present study, three types of bimetal composites, Al 6082 sleeve/Al 6082 core, Mg AZ31 sleeve/Mg AZ31 core and Al 6082 sleeve/Mg AZ31 core, were fabricated by drilling and assembling. The rule of mixtures (ROM) for the flow curves and yield strengths during compressive test were addressed. Our results show that the ROM can predict well the experimental flow curves and yield strengths of bimetal composites without bonding, irrespectively of the different strain hardening behavior between the two components.

Abstract Background Temperature is known to affect living organisms and alter the expression of responsive genes, which affects a series of life processes, such as development, reproduction and metabolism. Several genes and gene families have been involved in high temperature responses, such as heat shock protein (hsp) family, Jumonji family and genes related to cortisol synthesis. Gonad is a vital organ related to the existence of a species. However, the comprehensive understanding of gonadal responses to environmental temperature is limited. Results To explore the effects of environmental temperature on genes and gene networks in gonads, we performed acute heat treatment (48 h) on Chinese tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis). Gonadal transcriptome analysis was conducted on females, pseudomales and males exposed to high (28 °C) and normal (22 °C) temperatures. A total of 1226.24 million clean reads were obtained from 18 libraries. Principal component analysis (PCA) and differentially expressed gene (DEG) analysis revealed different performance of sex responses to heat stress. There were 4565, 790 and 1117 specific genes altered their expression level in females, pseudomales and males, respectively. Of these, genes related to hsp gene family, cortisol synthesis and metabolism and epigenetic regulation were involved in early heat response. Furthermore, a total of 1048 DEGs were shared among females, pesudomales and males, which may represent the inherent difference between high and normal temperatures. Genes, such as eef1akmt3, eef1akmt4, pnmt and hsp family members, were found. Conclusions Our results depicted for the first time the gonadal gene expression under acute high temperature treatment in Chinese tongue sole. The findings may provide a clue for understanding the responses of genes and networks to environmental temperature.

Dezhou City is located in northwestern Shandong Province, China, and is rich in geothermal resources. Approximately 30% of the geothermal wells and geothermal heating areas of Shandong Province are located in Dezhou. A doublet-well layout geothermal system was completed by the Lubei Geo-engineering Exploration Institute for local winter heating, which has been in operation for 4 years. The wellbores penetrated the Guantao Formation with a well spacing of 180 m. This study aims to assess the heat extraction performance of the current well layout and predict the temperature evolution and lifespan. Furthermore, larger well spacing schemes were used in a simulation to test the heat supply potential and sustainability. In this study, the thermal conductivity and permeability were calibrated using in situ measured data from a field production test. A relatively high permeability layer was found between the depths of 1468 and 1536 m. The temperature remained stable in the first 6 years and then started to decrease. The recharging (injection) water tended to concentrate along the bottom highly permeable layer and accounted for over 64% of the outflow in the 100th year of the simulation test. The outflow temperature decreased from 53.9°C to 50°C in the 32nd year, making it less viable for subsequent sustainable exploitation. Hence, a larger well spacing is required for long-term operation based on the same geothermal reservoir. It was found that a spacing of 400 m could guarantee an outflow temperature above 50°C over a 100-year lifespan with an 80 m 3 /h pumping (production) rate. Moreover, the sustainability of the 600-m spacing was almost 2.5 times that of the 400 m case. The modeling and analysis method can be useful for the development and optimization of a doublet-well geothermal system under similar conditions.

This study investigated the effects of laser scanning speed on the microstructure, phase transformation and properties of NiTi alloys fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). In this study, the contributions of metallurgical factors under different scanning speeds, such as Ni evaporation, Ni4Ti3 precipitation, dislocations and internal stress, to the transformation temperature and transformation latent heat were clarified through specially designed experiments. Ni evaporation is found to have the most profound effect, followed by precipitation. Increasing scanning speed is found to reduce Ni loss, thus cause less increase in the transformation temperature and transformation heat of the LPBF-NiTi alloys. Increasing scanning speed also increases the microstructure non-uniformity and thus widens the transformation temperature interval. The orientations of residual stress exhibit strong crystallographic stiffness dependence. The LPBF-NiTi alloys with different scanning speeds all exhibited high strains (>13.4%) and excellent shape memory effect. A LPBF-NiTi honeycomb structure exhibited 96% shape recovery rate after a 60% pre-compressive deformation. Besides, there is an optimum scanning speed for minimum porosity and smallest average pore size. However, the pore structure is found to have weak influence on the tensile behaviour of the LPBF-NiTi alloys, possibly due to the high defect tolerance of the martensitic transformation.

Studies have shown that the cholesterol-lowering medicine statins alter the gut microbiome, induce chronic metabolic inflammation, and disrupt glycemic homeostasis. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether effects of atorvastatin (Ator) on gut microbiome and metabolic inflammation could be causally correlated. Mice at 8-week age were fed with high-fat diet (HFD) or HFD with Ator (HFD+Ator) for 16 weeks. 16S rRNA sequencing of stool and RNA sequencing of colon tissue were employed to analyze the intestinal alterations that could be induced by Ator. A human colon carcinoma cell line (Caco2) was used for in vitro experiments on barrier function. Compared to HFD, HFD+Ator induced more weight gain, impaired glucose tolerance, and led to gut microbiota dysbiosis, such as suppressing Akkermansia muciniphila in mice. The expressions of tight junction (TJ) proteins were attenuated in the colon, and the serum LPS-binding-protein (LBP) level was elevated in HFD+Ator mice, so as to transcriptionally activate the intestinal nuclear factor-k-gene binding (NF-κB) signaling pathway. Consistently, Ator impaired the barrier function of Caco2, and treatment of supernatant of A. Muciniphila culture could decrease the intestinal permeability and recover the attenuated expression of TJ proteins induced by Ator. In conclusion, long-term use of Ator with HFD may alter gut microbiota, induce intestinal barrier dysfunction, and hence promote chronic inflammation that contributes to disrupted glycemic homeostasis.

Abstract P‐glycoprotein (P‐gp, MDR1) is expressed at the blood–brain barrier (BBB) and restricts penetration of its substrates into the central nervous system (CNS). In vitro MDR1 assays are frequently used to predict the in vivo relevance of MDR1‐mediated efflux at the BBB. It has been well established that drug candidates with high MDR1 efflux ratios (ERs) display poor CNS penetration. Following a comparison of MDR1 transporter function between the MDR1‐MDCKI cell line from National Institutes of Health (NIH) and our internal MDR1‐MDCKII cell line, the former was found to provide better predictions of in vivo brain penetration than our in‐house MDR1‐MDCKII cell line. This study investigates factors that motivate users of social network sites (SNS) to write responses to support-seeking posts on SNS. In particular, support-seeking message valence and support providers’ efficacy perceptions were examined. An online experiment with 209 participants revealed that participants reported lower support provision efficacy and impression management efficacy when responding to a negative post than a positive post. Message valence and efficacy perceptions impacted word count and emotion words in their responses. Theoretical and pragmatic implications for supportive communication and computer-mediated communication were discussed.

Yellowtail kingfish (Seriola lalandi) is a pelagic marine piscivore with a circumglobal distribution. It is particularly suitable for open ocean aquaculture owing to its large body size, fast swimming, rapid growth, and high economic value. A high-precision genome is of great significance for future genetic breeding research and large-scale aquaculture in the open ocean. PacBio, Illumina, and Hi-C data were combined to assemble chromosome-level reference genome with the size of 648.34 Mb (contig N50: 28.52 Mb). 175 contigs was anchored onto 24 chromosomes with lengths ranging from 12.28 to 34.59 Mb, and 99.79% of the whole genome sequence was covered. The BUSCOs of genome and gene were 94.20 and 95.70%, respectively. Gene families associated with adaptive behaviors, such as olfactory receptors and HSP70 gene families, expanded in the genome of S. lalandi. An analysis of selection pressure revealed 652 fast-evolving genes, among which mkxb, popdc2, dlx6, and ifitm5 may be related to rapid growth traits. The data generated in this study provide a valuable resource for understanding the genetic basis of S. lalandi traits.

The Beibu Gulf is considered as one of China’s four major fishing grounds, although the substantial overexploitation of fisheries has led to the collapse of many fish stocks, and to changes to spawning grounds in recent decades. Classifying fish eggs is an important way to monitor the recruitment process and identify the spawning sites of fish. However, the lack of a basis for morphological identification and difficulties in correctly identifying fish eggs based on morphological characteristics has limited scientific studies. In the present study, we identified fish eggs using molecular detection of cytochrome c oxidase subunit I and cytochrome b fragments. Ichthyoplankton surveys were conducted in the spring and late autumn–winter of 2020 in the eastern Beibu Gulf. Among the DNA extracted from the 873 chosen fish eggs, we successfully obtained 541 high-quality cytochrome c oxidase subunit I sequences and 41 high-quality cytochrome b sequences. We successfully identified 212 fish eggs (36.4%) from 32 species; 291 eggs (50.0%) showed ambiguous species delimitation, and 79 eggs (13.6%) could not be identified. Among the identified species, we found 25 species in spring and 25 species in late autumn–winter, out of which 18 species occurred in both seasons. We also obtained high resolution photographs of fish eggs at the species level for further morphological analysis and identification. The present study confirms the efficacy of using molecular methods to identify fish species from eggs and provides valuable information for protecting the spawning ground of economically valuable fish and for managing fishery resources.

For aluminized explosive, the charge performance of explosive grenade is very significant for promoting their application. Firstly, the detonation performance of cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (RDX) based explosives with different aluminum powder (0%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, and 40%, respectively) content was investigated. Next, the air blast tests of RDX-based aluminized explosives were carried out. Then, RDX-based explosive grenade charges of L-1 and L-2 where the aluminum powder content was 20% and 25% were selected for air blast and static blasting fragments velocity tests. Finally, the energy release mechanism of the air blast was deduced via calculation. The results show that RDX-based aluminized explosives have higher detonation heat, detonation velocity, and detonation volume when the aluminum powder content is 20%, and the shock wave over pressure as well as impulse keep a high level at the same time within 4.5 m. The air blast performance of L-1 is better than L-2 within 2.2 m. As the distance increases, the air blast energy of L-1 is mainly used for shell rupture and fragment acceleration, while the contribution of L-2 is less than that of L-1. This study demonstrated that the explosion power of RDX-based explosive grenade charge is the most powerful where the content of aluminum powder is about 20%.

Abstract ZrB2-SiBCN ceramics with ZrO2 additive are hot-pressed under a constant applied pressure. The densification behavior of the composites is studied in a view of creep deformation by means of the Bernard-Granger and Guizard model. With determination of the stress exponent (n) and the apparent activation energy (Q d), the specific deformation mechanisms controlling densification are supposed. Within lower temperature ranges of 1300–1400 °C, the operative mechanism is considered to be grain boundary sliding accommodated by atom diffusion of the polymer-derived SiBCN (n = 1, Q d = 123±5 kJ/mol) and by viscous flow of the amorphous SiBCN (n = 2, Q d = 249±5 kJ/mol). At higher temperatures, the controlling mechanism transforms to lattice or intra-granular diffusion creep (n = 3–5) due to gradual consumption of the amorphous phase. It is suggested that diffusion of oxygen ions inside ZrO2 into the amorphous SiBCN decreases the viscosity, modifies the fluidity, and contributes to the grain boundary mobility.

Abstract Three dimensional (3D) printing technology by direct ink writing (DIW) is an innovative complex shaping technology, possessing advantages of flexibility in fabrication, high efficiency, low cost, and environmental-friendliness. Herein, 3D printing of complex alumina ceramic parts via DIW using thermally induced solidification with carrageenan swelling was investigated. The rheological properties of the slurry under different thermally-induced modes were systematically studied. The solidification properties of thermally-induced pastes with varying contents of carrageenan were optimized. The experimental results showed that the optimized paste consisting of 0.4 wt% carrageenan could be rapidly solidified at about 55 °C, which could print inclined-plane more than 60° in vertical without support, resulting in better homogeneity of the green body. A nearly pore-free structure was obtained after sintering at 1600 °C for 2 h.

Abstract Background Abscisic acid-, stress-, and ripening-induced (ASR) genes are a class of plant specific transcription factors (TFs), which play important roles in plant development, growth and abiotic stress responses. The wheat ASRs have not been described in genome-wide yet. Methods We predicted the transmembrane regions and subcellular localization using the TMHMM server, and Plant-mPLoc server and CELLO v2.5, respectively. Then the phylogeny tree was built by MEGA7. The exon–intron structures, conserved motifs and TFs binding sites were analyzed by GSDS, MEME program and PlantRegMap, respectively. Results In wheat, 33ASR genes were identified through a genome-wide survey and classified into six groups. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that the TaASR proteins in the same group tightly clustered together, compared with those from other species. Duplication analysis indicated that the TaASR gene family has expanded mainly through tandem and segmental duplication events. Similar gene structures and conserved protein motifs of TaASRs in wheat were identified in the same groups. ASR genes contained various TF binding cites associated with the stress responses in the promoter region. Gene expression was generally associated with the expected group-specific expression pattern in five tissues, including grain, leaf, root, spike and stem, indicating the broad conservation of ASR genes function during wheat evolution. The qRT-PCR analysis revealed that several ASRs were up-regulated in response to NaCl and PEG stress. Conclusion We identified ASR genes in wheat and found that gene duplication events are the main driving force for ASR gene evolution in wheat. The expression of wheat ASR genes was modulated in responses to multiple abiotic stresses, including drought/osmotic and salt stress. The results provided important information for further identifications of the functions of wheat ASR genes and candidate genes for high abiotic stress tolerant wheat breeding.

Abstract Background This study aimed to investigate the impacts of guar gum and cellulose as the source of dietary fiber during gestation on the reproductive performance of sows. Methods A total of 210 sows (parities 3–6) were randomly allocated into six diets (n = 35) throughout gestation to feed graded levels of dietary fiber (DF), including a corn-soybean meal-based control diet with no wheat bran inclusion (CON, 12.5% DF), a wheat bran-rich diet (DF1, 17.4% DF), and another 4 diets (DF2, 17.7% DF; DF3, 18.1% DF; DF4, 18.4% DF; DF5, 18.8% DF) in which wheat bran were equally substituted by 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% purified FIBER MIX (guar gum and cellulose, 1:4). All sows received similar DE and other nutrients throughout gestation. Abstract The maturation and development of T cells were not completed until T cells were selected in thymus. It was not until the early 1960s that j.f.a.p. discovered the importance of thymus in T cell development. Twelve healthy piglets were randomly divided into two groups, the experimental group (LGG group) and the control group (saline group). The LGG group piglets were given 1 ml LGG (6 × 109 CFU/ml) per day. The saline group was given 1 ml of normal saline per day. The piglets were slaughtered at 30 days and 45 days, respectively, and the MLN, jejunum and ileum PPs, LP of the piglets were taken. The expression of CD3+CD4+ T lymphocytes was detected by flow cytometry, and intestinal villi development was observed by intestinal paraffin section. Abstract Empowered by recent advances of sequencing techniques, transcriptome-wide studies have characterized over 150 different types of post-transcriptional chemical modifications of RNA, ranging from methylations of single base to complex installing reactions catalyzed by coordinated actions of multiple modification enzymes. These modifications have been shown to regulate the function and fate of RNAs and further affecting various cellular events. However, the current understanding of their biological functions in human diseases, especially in cancers, is still limited. Once regarded as “junk” or “noise” of the transcriptome, noncoding RNA (ncRNA) has been proved to be involved in a plethora of cellular signaling pathways especially those regulating cancer initiation and progression. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that ncRNAs manipulate multiple phenotypes of cancer cells including proliferation, metastasis and chemoresistance and may become promising biomarkers and targets for diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Importantly, recent studies have mapped plenty of modified residues in ncRNA transcripts, indicating the existence of epigenetic modulation of ncRNAs and the potential effects of RNA modulation on cancer progression. In this review, we briefly introduced the characteristics of several main epigenetic marks on ncRNAs and summarized their consecutive effects on cancer cells. We found that ncRNAs could act both as regulators and targets of epigenetic enzymes, which indicated a cross-regulating network in cancer cells and unveil a novel dimension of cancer biology. Moreover, by epitomizing the knowledge of RNA epigenetics, our work may pave the way for the design of patient-tailored therapeutics of cancers.

Abstract Background N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most prevalent RNA epigenetic regulation in eukaryotic cells. However, understanding of m6A in colorectal cancer (CRC) is very limited. We designed this study to investigate the role of m6A in CRC. Methods Expression level of METTL14 was extracted from public database and tissue array to investigate the clinical relevance of METTL14 in CRC. Next, gain/loss of function experiment was used to define the role of METTL14 in the progression of CRC. Moreover, transcriptomic sequencing (RNA-seq) was applied to screen the potential targets of METTL14. The specific binding between METTL14 and presumed target was verified by RNA pull-down and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay. Furthermore, rescue experiment and methylated RNA immunoprecipitation (Me-RIP) were performed to uncover the mechanism. Results Clinically, loss of METTL14 correlated with unfavorable prognosis of CRC patients. Functionally, knockdown of METTL14 drastically enhanced proliferative and invasive ability of CRC cells in vitro and promoted tumorigenicity and metastasis in vivo. Mechanically, RNA-seq and Me-RIP identified lncRNA XIST as the downstream target of METTL14. Knockdown of METTL14 substantially abolished m6A level of XIST and augmented XIST expression. Moreover, we found that m6A-methylated XIST was recognized by YTHDF2, a m6A reader protein, to mediate the degradation of XIST. Consistently, XIST expression negatively correlated with METTL14 and YTHDF2 in CRC tissues. Conclusion Our findings highlight the function and prognostic value of METTL14 in CRC and extend the understanding of the importance of RNA epigenetics in cancer biology.

Abstract In this paper, the one-loop CHY-integrands of bi-adjoint scalar theory has been reinvestigated. Differing from previous constructions, we have explicitly removed contributions from tadpole and massless bubbles when taking the forward limit of corresponding tree-level amplitudes. The way to remove those singular contributions is to exploit the idea of “picking poles”, which is to multiply a special cross ratio factor with the role of isolating terms having a particular pole structure.

Thermo-, pH- and glucose-responsive polymeric nanoparticles are of great interest in developing a self-regulated drug delivery system. The novel core-shell nanoparticles were synthesized by self-assembly of a phenylboronic acid-based block copolymer poly-(N-isopropylacrylamide)-block-poly(3-acrylamidophenylboronic acid) (PNIPAM136-b-PAPBA16) and a fluorescent complex glucosamine-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/Eu(III) (GA-PNIPAM)/Eu(III) based on the cross-linking between PBA- and GA-containing blocks in this work. The nanoparticles can be tuned via thermo-induced collapse or glucose-induced swelling at appropriate pH and temperatures; they had an average kinetic radius was about 80nm, and which showed excellent fluorescence. MTT assays revealed the nanocarriers had no significant cytotoxic response of the micelle when it was observed in the cell line over the concentration range from 0.1 to 1000 μg/ml at any exposure times.

Belt-planting is a novel method for productivity of all wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) varieties, first practiced in China, in which seeds are set on a wide belt (7–12 cm in width) rather than on a conventional line swath ∼3 cm). Belt-planting allows the seeds to be uniformly distributed in the soil and increases the probability of success in establishing desirable stands, spike number per unit area and grain yield. During recent years, belt-planting has been successfully combined with other planting systems. A combination of belt-planting with precision sowing shows the integrated advantages of both technologies. Belt-planting in a strip tillage and direct drilling system has the potential to become an economically viable method for wheat productivity, facilitating the development of environmentally friendly and resource-efficient agriculture. We review the existing literature regarding the potential advantages and underlying mechanisms of belt-planting as a potential method to ensure wheat growth and productivity. We then propose future research directions related to practicing these planting methods to further improve and promote belt-planting-based technologies.

Abstract Background N-myc downstream-regulated gene 1 (NDRG1) has been shown to play a key role in tumor metastasis. Recent studies demonstrate that NDRG1 can suppress tumor growth and is related to tumor proliferation; however, the mechanisms underlying these effects remain obscure. Methods Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect NDRG1 and p21 protein expression in colorectal cancer tissue, and clinical significance of NDRG1 was also analyzed. CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay, flow cytometry, and xenograft model were used to assess the effect of NDRG1 on tumor proliferation in vivo and in vitro. The mechanisms underlying the effect of NDRG1 were investigated using western blotting, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, and ubiquitylation assay. Results NDRG1 was down-regulated in CRC tissues and correlated with tumor size and patient survival. NDRG1 inhibited tumor proliferation through increasing p21 expression via suppressing p21 ubiquitylation. NDRG1 and p21 had a positive correlation both in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, E3 ligase NEDD4 could directly interact with and target p21 for degradation. Moreover, NDRG1 could emulatively antagonize NEDD4-mediated ubiquitylation of p21, increasing p21 expression and inhibit tumor proliferation. Conclusion Our study could fulfill potential mechanisms of the NDRG1 during tumorigenesis and metastasis, which may serve as a tumor suppressor and potential target for new therapies in human colorectal cancer.

Grain growth can modify the texture orientation and the fraction of different texture component. The thermal stability of two texture component in an extruded magnesium AZ31 alloy was investigated. Three types samples with different texture distribution were prepared. The results show that normal grain growth takes place in the magnesium AZ31 alloy during annealing at 300 °C and 450 °C. But the grain growth does not lead to the strengthening of either texture component. Both the ⊥ED texture and //ED texture components show good thermal stability, without influence of the texture volume fraction. The two different texture component possess comparable boundary migration ability, so grains of the two texture component consume indifferently the other grains, or are equally consumed during annealing. To optimize the energy output and improve the energy utilization efficiency of an aluminized explosive, an explosion device was developed and used to investigate the detonation pressure and temperature of R1 (Al6) aluminum powder and the aluminum powder particle gradation of R2 (Al6+Al13), R3 (Al6+Al24) and R4 (Al6+Al flake) in a confined space. By using gas chromatography, quantitative analysis and calculations were carried out to analyze the gaseous detonation products. Finally, the reaction ratios of the aluminum powder and the explosion reaction equations were calculated. The results show that in a confined space, the quasi-static pressures and equilibrium temperature of the aluminum powder in air are higher than in vacuum. In vacuum, the quasi-static pressures and equilibrium temperatures of the samples in descending order are R1>R3>R4>R2 and R3>R4>R1>R2, respectively. In air, the quasi-static pressures and equilibrium temperatures of the samples in descending order are R1>R2>R4>R3 and R1>R4>R2>R3, respectively. R4 (Al6+Al flake) and R3 (Al6+Al24) have relatively higher temperatures after detonation, which shows that the particle gradation method can enhance the reaction energy output of aluminum during the initial reaction stage of the explosion and increase the reaction ratio by 10.6% and 8.0%, respectively. In air, the reaction ratio of Al6 aluminum powder can reach as high as 78.16%, and the reaction ratio is slightly reduced after particle gradation. Finally, the reaction equations of the explosives in vacuum and in air were calculated by quantitative analysis of the explosion products, which provides a powerful basis for the study of RDX-based explosive reactions. AbstractThe development of sandstone-type geothermal energy is an important part of the development of geothermal resources and has great significance in promoting environmental protection and energy structural transformation. In sandstone geothermal energy development, recharging is the main method to ensure bottom hole pressure. However, the pressure and temperature changes of sandstone reservoirs under recharge conditions have not been extensively studied. It is easy to ignore the hydraulic relationship between the production and the injection wells, which leads to an increased risk of thermal breakthrough. Therefore, a three-dimensional hydrothermal coupling model is established, and simulation studies of different flow rates, well lengths, and well spacings are completed in this paper. Here, we show the numerical simulation results. The low temperature expansion zone and hydrostatic pressure near the injection well increase with increasing flow rate, and the maximum expansion of the low temperature zone is about 350 m. The low temperature expansion area near the injection well has a small relationship with the well spacing, and the increase in hydrostatic pressure is proportional to the well spacing. As the length of the well increases, the increase in hydrostatic pressure near the injection well decreases, indicating that the injected water under the long well section easily enters the reservoir. When no thermal breakthrough occurs and the hydrostatic pressure drops significantly near the production well, it is recommended that the flow rate be controlled at approximately 20–25 L/s, the well spacing should be 600–800 m, and the well length should be greater than 100 m.

Mercury (Hg) brings adverse effects to the environment and human beings and inorganic mercury (IHg) is a typical hepatic toxin. This work studied the impacts of IHg on gut microbes and metabolome together with its damage to liver and gut in rats through gut microbiome, metabolomics and metallomics. Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were orally exposed to 0.4 μg/mL IHg and sacrificed after 24 h. It was found that IHg perturbed greatly on the gut microbiota, such as increased pathogenic bacteria like G. bacillus. In addition, IHg also changed gut-liver axis related metabolites, which was confirmed by the secretion of a large number of inflammatory factors in both the gut and the liver. The changed gut-liver axis related metabolites correlated well to the changes of gut microbiome. In all, besides the direct deposition in liver of Hg, the perturbance to gut microbiome and alteration of gut-liver axis related metabolites by IHg also contributed to its hepatoxicity, which provides new insights about the hepatoxicity of chemicals. The strategy applied in this work may also be used to understand the hepatoxicity of other chemicals.

The key to ensuring the economic feasibility of EGS mainly includes two points. On the one hand, it is necessary to ensure the connectivity of the artificial fracture network; on the other hand, it is necessary to determine the most efficient geothermal energy exploitation mode. Most previous studies have only focused on one of the points. To restitute the entire geothermal energy development process, the two parts should be combined to conduct research. In this study, a random fractured medium model was established based on the TOUGH2-BIOT simulation program and the whole process of reservoir stimulation was analyzed. According to the results of reservoir stimulation, different geothermal energy exploitation schemes are set up, and the heat transfer efficiency of the conventional double vertical wells, the horizontal wells, and the double-pipe heat exchange system are comparatively analyzed. The results show that reservoir reconstruction is mainly divided into three stages: In the first stage, the hydraulic aperture of the conducting fractures reaches the maximum value; in the second stage, the non-conductive fractures overcome the in situ stress and become conducting fractures; in the third stage, the rock in the reservoir undergoes shear failure, the fractures expand and connect, and finally, a fracture network is formed. After each stage, the volume of the enhanced permeability area is approximately 10,000, 21,000, and 33,000 m3, respectively. After 30 years of exploitation, the outlet temperature and thermal power output of conventional double vertical wells are the highest, while the horizontal wells have the highest heat extraction ratio. The temperature of a production well in the conventional double vertical wells model, horizontal wells, and double-pipe heat exchange system is 101 °C, 93.4 °C, and 91.6 °C, a decrease of 41.2%, 45.7%, and 46.7%, respectively. The thermal power output is 6.67 MW, 6.31 MW, and 6.1 MW, a decrease of 39.4%, 42.6%, and 44.5%, respectively. The heat extraction ratio of the horizontal wells is 2% higher than the double-pipe heat exchange system and 6.5% higher than the conventional double vertical wells.

During the operation of an enhanced geothermal system (EGS), the non-equilibrium temperature, pressure, and hydrochemistry caused by fluid injection intensify water–rock interactions, induce the mineral dissolution and precipitation in the reservoir near an injection well (also referred to as the near-well reservoir), and change reservoir permeability, thus affecting continuous and efficient geothermal exploitation. Based on the investigation of the M-1 injection well of the EGS in the Matouying uplift of Hebei Province, China, a THC reactive solute transport model using the TOUGHREACT program was established in this study to explore the mineral dissolution and precipitation laws of the near-well reservoir and their influencing mechanisms on the reservoir porosity and permeability in the long-term fluid injection of this well. As indicated by the results, the dissolution of primary feldspar and chlorite and the precipitation of secondary minerals (mainly dolomite and illite) occurred and water–rock interaction significantly reduced the porosity and permeability of the near-well reservoir in the long-term continuous injection process. Appropriate reduction in the injection flow rate, injection temperature, and the Mg2+ and K+ contents in the injected water can help inhibit the formation of secondary minerals and delay the plugging process of the near-well reservoir.

Optimal kernel size and shape were critical in improving the wheat yield potential and processing quality. A traditional and conditional QTL analysis for kernel-related traits was performed using 152 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between Zhongkemai 138 (ZKM138) and Kechengmai 2, whose kernel size showed significant differences. A total of 48 traditional QTLs (LOD: 3.69–14.20) were identified, with twenty-six QTLs distributed across five genomic regions. Each had at least one major stable QTL for kernel-related traits. We deduced from the co-location and conditional QTL analysis results that R3D and R4B.1 primarily controlled kernel shape, while R4D, R6A, and R6D2 primarily contributed to kernel size and the final thousand-kernel weight, potentially providing the genetic basis for the ZKM138’s high TKW and large-kernel performance. R4D may be involved with Rht2, and the possible regulatory effects of the other four QTL clusters are more likely to be influenced by unknown genes. The KASP markers validated their effect on kernel-related traits, and they were used to analyze the transmissibility and distribution of superior genotypes in ZKM138 derivatives and global wheat cultivars, respectively. These findings may serve as a reference for future genetic improvement of the ideal kernel morphology.

Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing is a widely used nondestructive testing (NDT) method for the inspection of ferromagnetic materials. This review paper presents the basic principles of MFL testing and summarizes the recent advances in MFL. An analytical expression for the leakage magnetic field based on the 3D magnetic dipole model is provided. Based on the model, the effects of defect size, defect orientation, and liftoff distance have been analyzed. Other influencing factors, such as magnetization strength, testing speed, surface roughness, and stress, have also been introduced. As the most important steps of MFL, the excitation method (a permanent magnet, DC, AC, pulsed) and sensing methods (Hall element, GMR, TMR, etc.), have been introduced in detail. Finally, the algorithms for the quantification of defects and the applications of MFL have been introduced.

Dystonia is the third most common movement disorder, after essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease. However, the cause for the majority of cases is not known.

We designed the present study to access the roles and mechanisms of PSMC5 in colorectal cancer (CRC). Transcriptomic and clinical data from public datasets and our center were retrospectively analyzed. Functional assays were performed to investigate the effects of PSMC5 on CRC cells. The results showed that PSMC5 was significantly higher in cancer than normal tissues. Moreover, patients with higher expression of PSMC5 showed poorer prognosis. Silencing of PSMC5 dramatically suppressed the proliferation and invasion of CRC cells, while overexpression led to the opposite. In addition, we screened downstream targets and found that PSMC5 regulates multiple pathways including epithelial–mesenchymal transition, hypoxia, and immune response. Consistently, we found that PSMC5 was negatively correlated with levels of CD8 + T cells and B cells while promoting infiltration of macrophages and neutrophils. Collectively, these findings suggested that PSMC5 was a promising biomarker and target for immune therapy for CRC.

Catalysis-based chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is an emerging cancer treatment strategy which uses a Fenton-like reaction to kill tumor cells by catalyzing endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into a toxic hydroxyl radical (⋅OH). The performance of CDT is greatly dependent on PDT agent. Herein, mitochondria-targeting Pt nanoclusters were synthesized using cytochrome c aptamer (CytcApt) as template. The obtained CytcApt-PtNCs can produce ⋅OH by H2O2 under the acidic conditions. Moreover, CytcApt-PtNCs could kill 4T1 tumor cells in a pH-dependent manner, but had no side effect on normal 293T cells. Therefore, CytcApt-PtNCs possess excellent therapeutic effect and good biosafety, indicating their great potential for CDT.

Both zearalenone (ZEA) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) can induce oxidative stress, and even apoptosis in bovine mammary epithelial cells (MAC-T), but not much attention has been given to the synergistic effect of ZEA and LPS. In this study, we treated MAC-T cells with different concentrations of LPS (1, 10, 50, and 100 μg/mL) and ZEA (5, 15, and 30 μM) to induce cell damage. Previous results show that MAC-T cell viability decreases with increasing LPS concentration. Meanwhile, 1 µg/mL LPS and ZEA were selected for combined treatment in subsequent studies. It was found that co-treatment with ZEA and LPS increases the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA), decreases mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and reduces glutathione (GSH). ZEA and LPS are found to activate endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress by increasing the expression of glucose-regulated protein 78 kDa (GRP78), activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) and C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP). It increases cell apoptosis by suppressing the expression of the anti-apoptotic protein B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2), indicated by up-regulation of Bcl2-associated X protein (Bax) and Cysteinyl aspartate-specific proteinases 3 (caspase-3) expression. The above results suggest that the synergistic effect of ZEA and LPS aggravate cytotoxicity.

This paper proposes a method of injected alternating current-field measurement (IAC-FM) for detecting orthogonal cracks in the piston rod of a hydraulic cylinder in a gate hoist. Using this method, both longitudinal and transverse cracks can be detected at the same time. An alternating magnetic field is produced inside the steel rod by axially injecting an alternating current into the rod. The longitudinal crack perturbs the circumferential magnetic field, whereas the transverse crack perturbs the current in the axial direction. Analyses of the behaviors of the magnetic field in the vicinity of the cracks were proposed, using a three-dimensional finite element software. An experimental setup was built and validation experiments were performed. The effects of the operating frequency and scan path were also studied. The results verified the feasibility of the IAC-FM method and showed great potential for the inspection of in-service hydraulic cylinders of gate hoists.
