The 1955 edition of the Promenade Yearbook from Maryville College of the Sacred Heart. The books were named to signify both the strolls around the campus and the "promenade" from freshman year to graduation. The name can be accredited to students Mary Helen Schaeffer (1940) and Margaret Boland (1940). Within this edition, the faculty and staff, graduating class, and the lower classes are photographed and labeled, as well as various clubs and sports teams from Maryville College in 1955. The 1955 Promenade was dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus with the following poem: Heart, in Whose sacred light our own hearts' earth has flowered and for four seasons borne its fruit, We bring the harvest gathered in this book And lay it down in dedication In answer to Your love to which we recognize ourselves as answerable. Embracing that responsibility has thus far ripened us. Pour Your maturing light now on our separate ways. Bring us responsible and trustworthy to fullest growth in You. A new tradition was started in 1955. The first Senior Class tree, a Chinese elm, was planted. While the student body sang the school song, each member of the Religious faculty, a representative of the Lay faculty, and the Seniors added a spadeful of earth to support the tree and to bury a container holding treasured mementos of the Class of '55.
