Abstract

The Susceptible-Infected-Susceptible model is a canonical model for emerging disease outbreaks. Such outbreaks are naturally modeled as taking place on networks. A theoretical challenge in network epidemiology is the dynamic correlations coming from that if one node is occupied, or infected (for disease spreading models), then its neighbors are likely to be occupied. By combining two theoretical approaches---the heterogeneous mean-field theory and the effective degree method---we are able to include these correlations in an analytical solution of the SIS model. We derive accurate expressions for the average prevalence (fraction of infected) and epidemic threshold. 180. Peak Detector With an FPGA-Only Solution for Multichannel Ultrafast Signals

Abstract

Peak detection is useful in a wide range of applications. To achieve this task, conventional approaches [including dedicated application specific integrated circuit-based designs] often demand analog readout chains and compulsory add-ons [e.g., additional analogy-to-digital converter (ADC) for peak sampling], rendering them neither compact nor flexible. In this article, we propose a field programmable gate array (FPGA)-only solution to fulfill this task without any external components. Specifically, we achieve peak detection with only a low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) comparator and two general-purpose input/outputs (GPIOs). Therefore, one can flexibly make a practical deployment by a simple routing process, a nontrivial task even for inexperienced engineers. Meanwhile, to further compact the design for peak sampling, we leverage an FPGA-based slope ADC within which, we propose a new resource-efficient and calibration-free time-to-digital converter architecture. The underlying rational is to minimize the nonlinearity problem by squeezing all resources within a single clock region. We have implemented a prototype using Xilinx FPGA and extensively evaluated its performance in rather challenging scenarios. Results demonstrate a peak digitization error of only about 30 mV in a full 1.8 V range for impulses with as few as 10ns pulsewidth. Meanwhile, in a practical deployment that requires a wide range of peak sampling, the achieved energy resolution is only 1.3% worse than a dedicated high-speed oscilloscope.

181. Proton feeding from defect-rich carbon support to cobalt phthalocyanine for efficient CO2electroreduction

Abstract

Electrocatalytic CO2reduction reaction (CO2RR) holds significant promise for sustainable energy conversion, with cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) emerging as a notable catalyst due to its high CO selectivity. However, CoPc's efficacy is hindered by its limited ability to provide sufficient proton for the protonation process, particularly at industrial current densities. Herein, we introduce defect-engineered carbon nanotubes (d-CNT) to augment proton feeding for CO2RR over CoPc, achieved by expediting water dissociation. Our kinetic measurements and in-situattenuated total reflection surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy reveal d-CNT significantly enhances proton feeding, thereby facilitating CO2activation to *COOH in CoPc. Density functional theory calculations corroborate these findings, illustrating that d-CNT decreases the barrier to water dissociation. Consequently, the CoPc/d-CNT mixture demonstrates robust performance, achieving 500 mA cm–2for CO2RR with CO selectivity exceeding 96%. Notably, CoPc/d-CNT remains stability for a duration of 20 h under a substantial current density of 150 mA cm–2. The study broadens the scope of practical applications for molecular catalysts in CO2RR, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy conversion.

Abstract

Purpose: This is a first-in-human study to evaluate the radiation dosimetry of a new prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeted radiopharmaceutical, [18F]AlF-P16-093, and also initial investigation of its ability to detect PSMA-positive tumors using PET scans in a cohort of prostate cancer (PCa) patients. Methods: The [18F]AlF-P16-093 was automatically synthesized with a GE TRACERlab. A total of 23 patients with histopathologically proven PCa were prospectively enrolled. Dosimetry and biodistribution study investigations were carried out on a subset of six (6) PCa patients, involving multiple time-point scanning. The mean absorbed doses were estimated with PMOD and OLINDA software. Results: [18F]AlF-P16-093 was successfully synthesized, and radiochemical purity was > 95%, and average labeling yield was 36.5 ± 8.3% (decay correction, n = 12). The highest tracer uptake was observed in the kidneys, spleen, and liver, contributing to an effective dose of 16.8 ± 1.3 μSv/MBq, which was ~ 30% lower than that of [68Ga]Ga-P16-093. All subjects tolerated the PET examination well, and no reportable side-effects were observed. The PSMA-positive tumors displayed rapid uptake, and they were all detectable within 10 min, and no additional lesions were observed in the following multi-time points scanning. Each patient had at least one detectable tumor lesion, and a total of 356 tumor lesions were observed, including intraprostatic, lymph node metastases, bone metastases, and other soft tissue metastases. Conclusions: We report herein a streamlined method for high yield synthesis of [18F]AlF-P16-093. Preliminary study in PCa patients has demonstrated its safety and acceptable radiation dosimetry. The initial diagnostic study indicated that [18F]AlF-P16-093 PET/CT is efficacious and potentially useful for a widespread application in the diagnosis of PCa patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

185. Structural Elucidation of Glycosaminoglycans in the Tissue of Flounder and Isolation of Chondroitin Sulfate C.

Abstract

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are valuable bioactive polysaccharides with promising biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. In this study, we analyzed GAGs using HPLC-MS/MS from the bone (B), muscle (M), skin (S), and viscera (V) of Scophthalmus maximus (SM), Paralichthysi (P), Limanda ferruginea (LF), Cleisthenes herzensteini (G), Platichthys bicoloratus (PB), Pleuronichthys cornutus (PC), and Cleisthenes herzensteini (CH). Unsaturated disaccharide products were obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of the GAGs and subjected to compositional analysis of chondroitin sulfate (CS), heparin sulfate (HS), and hyaluronic acid (HA), including the sulfation degree of CS and HS, as well as the content of each GAG. The contents of GAGs in the tissues and the sulfation degree differed significantly among the fish. The bone of S. maximus contained more than 12 μg of CS per mg of dry tissue. Although the fish typically contained high levels of CSA (CS-4S), some fish bone tissue exhibited elevated levels of CSC (CS-6S). The HS content was found to range from 10–150 ug/g, primarily distributed in viscera, with a predominant non-sulfated structure (HS-0S). The structure of HA is well-defined without sulfation modification. These analytical results are independent of biological classification. We provide a high-throughput rapid detection method for tissue samples using HPLC-MS/MS to rapidly screen ideal sources of GAG. On this basis, four kinds of CS were prepared and purified from flounder bone, and their molecular weight was determined to be 23–28 kDa by HPGPC-MALLS, and the disaccharide component unit was dominated by CS-6S, which is a potential substitute for CSC derived from shark cartilage.
