Eating disorders and difficulties in regulating emotions are frequent among adolescents and serve as risk factors for several health issues. Nonetheless, the relationship remains ambiguous; investigating this connection will not only elucidate the associations between the two illnesses. Nevertheless, it will offer theoretical backing for interventions targeting the pertinent illnesses. This study seeks to examine the relationship between emotion management and disordered eating while assessing the moderating influences of Body Mass Index (BMI) and gender to enhance future interventions for eating disorders. We conducted a search in April 2024 and updated it in November of the same year, encompassing literature published from 2010 to November 2024 across five English and Chinese databases. A random effects model was conducted to analyze research outcomes. This meta-analysis encompassed 23 research, demonstrating a medium positive connection between difficulties in regulating emotions and disordered eating (r = 0.418). Subgroup analyses revealed medium positive relationships between difficulties in emotion regulation and disordered eating (r = 0.428), loss-of-control eating disorders (r = 0.410), and emotional eating (r = 0.370). The meta-regression analysis revealed that gender significantly moderates this association, but BMI does not. The present study indicated that adolescents or young adults with difficulties in emotional regulation are susceptible to displaying symptoms of eating disorders in both sexes; however, in females, emotional regulation issues are more likely to be associated with eating disorders. Future longitudinal or experimental researches are needed to reveal the causal relationship between the two variables and the similarities and variations between genders during adolescence and early adulthood. Plain English Summary: This study explores the connection between difficulties in managing emotions and disordered eating in adolescents and young adults. Eating disorders, such as binge eating and emotional eating, are common among teenagers and young adults and those who have a harder time controlling their emotions are more likely to experience disordered eating. By analyzing data from 23 studies involving over 8,500 participants, this study also found that though both genders showed a significant connection between emotional regulation and eating behaviors but this link was stronger in females. The study also examined whether body weight (measured by BMI) influence this relationship. However, due to the absence of the overweight population, BMI did not significantly impact the connection between emotional difficulties and eating behaviors. Future research should investigate how these patterns change as people grow older and whether improving emotional regulation can lead to healthier eating habits. Controlled-release blended fertilizer (CRBF) and densification can increase rice yield and nitrogen (N) efficiency. However, the effects of CRBF combined with densification on rice yield, N absorption, economic benefits of fertilization, and ammonia volatilization loss remain unclear. A 2-year field experiment was conducted using five treatments: no N (control, CK), conventional N application (farmer's fertilization practice, FFP), optimal N application (OPT), single basal application of CRBF (CRBF), and CRBF combined with densification (CRFDP). Moreover, rice yield, N absorption and use efficiency, economic benefit, and ammonia volatilization loss were evaluated. CRBF and CRFDP significantly increased rice dry matter, N use efficiency by 11.6%–30.5% and 90.2%–160.0%, finally increased the yield by 33.3% and 26.1% in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Compared with FFP, CRFDP with 16.7% reduction of N input significantly increased yield by 33.3% and 26.1% and economic benefit by 46.9% and 38.3% in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Compared with CRBF, CRFDP increased the total yield by 2.7% and 15.2%, economic benefit by 3.5% and 7.6%, and N absorption efficiency by 10% and 8.3% in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Compared with FFP, CRFDP reduced ammonia volatilization intensity by 62.5% and 60.8%, cumulative ammonia volatilization loss by 46.3% and 50.3% and also lowered NH4+-N of surface water by 69.0%–93.8% and 57.8%–89.7% in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The combination of CRBF and densification could improve the rice yield, economic benefit, and N use efficiency and reduce ammonia volatilization. ERF56, a member of the APETALA2/ETHYLENE-RESPONSIVE FACTOR (AP2/ERF) transcription factor (TF) family, was reported to be an early nitrate-responsive TF in Arabidopsis. But the function of ERF56 in nitrate signaling remains not entirely clear. This study aimed to investigate the role of ERF56 in nitrate-dependent plant growth and nitrate signaling. We confirmed with reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) that the transcription of ERF56 is quickly induced by nitrate. ERF56 overexpressors displayed decreased nitrate-dependent plant growth, while erf56 mutants exhibited increased plant growth. Confocal imaging demonstrated that ERF56 is localized into nuclei. Assays with the glucuronidase (GUS) reporter showed that ERF56 is mainly expressed at the region of maturation of roots and in anthers. The dual-luciferase assay manifested that the transcription of ERF56 is not directly regulated by NIN-LIKE PROTEIN 7 (NLP7). The transcriptome analysis identified 1038 candidate genes regulated by ERF56 directly. A gene ontology (GO) over-representation analysis showed that ERF56 is involved in the processes of water transport, inorganic molecule transmembrane transport, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, and cell wall organization. Background and aims: Over the past decade, numerous studies investigating the relationship between breakfast consumption frequency and handgrip strength and standing long jump have produced conflicting evidence, leading to uncertainty regarding this association. This study aimed to provide further clarity on the relationship between breakfast consumption frequency and handgrip strength and standing long jump. Methods: A comprehensive search of the literature up to September 15, 2023, was conducted on Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, MEDLINE, and CNKI. Six studies related to grip strength and three studies related to standing long jump performance were included in the meta-analysis. For studies defining breakfast consumption frequency as an ordinal variable, the effect sizes of the lowest and highest frequency groups were analyzed. Results: No significant differences in handgrip strength were found between the highest and lowest breakfast consumption groups. Furthermore, unlike in men, women with the highest frequency of breakfast consumption showed significantly higher handgrip strength levels than women with the lowest frequency of breakfast consumption. No significant positive associations were found between breakfast intake frequency and standing long jump levels. Conclusion: These results suggest that while regular breakfast consumption may enhance handgrip strength in women, it does not influence standing long jump performance in both sexes. Germplasm innovation is the cornerstone of breeding, so the X-rays generated by electron accelerators was as a mutagenic tool to explore and optimize the application strategies of breeding materials. Initially, through meticulous adjustments, the semi-lethal/semi-dwarf dose thresholds were established for diverse treatment subjects. Subsequently, fine-tuning of irradiation intensities was performed to elicit genetic variations, and the treated materials maintained high survival rates. Furthermore, the optimal timing and approach for material treatment were explored to maximize the efficiency of irradiation-induced mutations. The irradiation treatments were implemented on a wide range of crops, achieving notable preliminary successes. Maize plants exhibited pronounced dwarfing after irradiation, and the degree of dwarfing was positively correlated with the treatment intensity. After irradiation, soybean plants exhibited reduced plant height and enhanced insect resistance, indicating the induction of favorable traits through irradiation. Quinoa treated by irradiation manifested extensive genetic variations of multiple traits, including plant height, leaf color, flower color and panicle morphology. Through specific irradiation treatments and screening, rice plants with significant herbicide resistance were successfully bred, offering a novel strategy for weed management. Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a significant cause of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), posing a serious threat to healthcare workers (HCWs). All touching behavior data were from a clinical skills competition of a medical school in Hong Kong; more than 12,000 touches involving 3 patients (infusion, critically ill, and agitation) and 25 HCWs were collected. A fomite transmission model considering real touch behaviors was established to simulate the MRSA transmission in an emergency room, then the MRSA exposure risk of HCWs and effectiveness of interventions were analyzed. HCWs had a low touch frequency of facial mucous (doctors: 1.7 times/h; nurses: 1.1 times/h). The MRSA intake fractions for doctors were 2–4 times higher than those for nurses. Handwashing twice per hour could reduce the MRSA intake fraction by 7%. Effectiveness of disinfecting only the top 10 high-risk public surfaces was 83% to 98% of the efficiency when disinfecting all public surfaces. MRSA mainly transferred via hand contact contributed over 89% of pathogen transmission. Therefore, disinfecting public surfaces or replacing them with antimicrobial surfaces was not effective. The findings highlight the importance of prioritizing hand hygiene among HCWs and optimizing interventions to enhance infection-control protocols in emergency rooms. Lattice dynamics (LD) enables the calculation of mode-resolved transmittance of phonons passing through an interface, which is essential for understanding and controlling the thermal boundary conductance (TBC). However, the original LD method may yield unphysical transmittance over 100% due to the absence of the constraint of energy conservation. Here, we present a robust LD algorithm that utilizes linear algebra transformations and projection gradient descent iterations to ensure energy conservation. Our approach demonstrates consistency with the original LD method on the atomically smooth Si/Ge interface and exhibits robustness on rough Si/Ge interfaces. The evanescent modes and localized effects at the interface are revealed. In addition, bottom-up analysis of the phonon transmittance shows that the anisotropy in the azimuth angle can be ignored, while the dependency on the frequency and polar angle can be decoupled. The decoupled expression reproduces the TBC precisely. This work provides comprehensive insights into the mode-resolved phonon transmittance across interfaces and paves the way for further research into the mechanism of TBC and its relation to atomic structures.
