The continuous evolution of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants poses a challenge to determine the optimal updated composition of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine. The present study aimed to investigate the immunogenicity of the Delta monovalent vaccine, the Omicron monovalent vaccine, and the Delta and Omicron BA.1 bivalent vaccine. Three COVID-19 vaccines were designed using the heterologous DNA prime-protein boost strategy, with each vaccine containing either Delta receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein, Omicron RBD, or both Delta and Omicron antigens. Temporal serum antibody binding titers and neutralizing antibody titers induced by the three vaccines in New Zealand White rabbits were analyzed. To further dissect the vaccine elicited antibodies (mAb) responses at the molecular level, a panel of rabbit monoclonal antibodies (RmAbs) was generated by a high-throughput single B cell sorting and discovery pipeline and further comprehensively characterized. The Omicron monovalent vaccine induced higher antibody binding titers and neutralization activities than the Delta and Omicron bivalent vaccine. Four RmAbs with robust neutralization capacity were isolated from rabbits immunized with the Omicron or Delta monovalent vaccine. Notably, 9E11 isolated from the Omicron monovalent vaccine group neutralized all the Omicron subvariants with an IC50 value ranging from 1.5 to 503.6 ng/mL; thus, this vaccine could serve as a prophylactic and therapeutic intervention. Given the increasing incidence of COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant, RBD from the Omicron strain could serve as a candidate immunogen that can induce higher neutralization activities against the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron sublineages.

Flexible dielectric polymers that can withstand high electric field and simultaneously have high dielectric constant are desired for high-density energy storage. Here, we systematically investigated the impact of oxygen-containing ether and carbonyl groups in the backbone structure on dielectric properties of a series of cyclic olefin. In comparison to the influence of the –CF3 pendant groups that had more impact on the dielectric constant rather than the band gap, the change of the backbone structure affected both the dielectric constant and band gaps. The one polymer with ether and carbonyl groups in the backbone has the largest band gap and highest discharge efficiency, while it has the lowest dielectric constant. The polymer without any ether groups in the backbone has the smallest band gap and lowest discharge efficiency, but it has the highest dielectric constant. Polymers that have no dipolar relaxation exhibit an inversely correlated dielectric constant and band gap. Enhancing the dipolar relaxation through rational molecular structure design can be a novel way to break through the exclusive constraint of dielectric constant and band gap for high-density energy storage.

Abstract The practical application of lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs) is severely hindered by the undesirable shuttling of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and sluggish redox kinetics of sulfur species. Herein, a series of ultrathin single‐atomic tungsten‐doped Co3O4 (Wx‐Co3O4) nanosheets as catalytic additives in the sulfur cathode for LSBs are rationally designed and synthesized. Benefiting from the enhanced catalytic activity and optimized electronic structure by W doping, the Wx‐Co3O4 not only reduces the shuttling of LiPSs but also decreases the energy barrier of sulfur redox reactions of sulfur species, leading to accelerated electrode kinetic. As a result, LSB cathodes with the use of 5.0 wt% W0.02‐Co3O4 as the electrocatalyst show the high reversible capacities of 1217.0 and 558.6 mAh g−1 at 0.2 and 5.0 C, respectively, and maintain a high reversible capacity of 644.6 mAh g−1 at 1.0 C (1.0 C = 1675 mA g−1) after 500 cycles. With a high sulfur loading of 5.5 mg cm−2 and electrolyte–electrode ratio of 8 μLelectrolyte mgsulfur−1, the 5.0 wt% W0.02‐Co3O4‐based sulfur cathode also retains a high reversible areal capacity of 3.86 mAh cm−2 at 0.1 C after 50 cycles with an initial capacity retention of 84.7%.

PurposeErythrodermic psoriasis (EP) is a severe form of psoriasis that affects multiple organs, including the cardiovascular system. However, few studies have focused on this condition.This study is aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with heart failure in EP patient, and to the measure the serum concentrations of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23), a potential predictor of chronic heart failure.MethodsWe retrospectively studied patients with EP hospitalized at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2005 to October 2021. The prevalence of heart failure and associated factors was measured. In addition, peripheral blood samples were collected from 17 patients and matched with samples from eight healthy controls, and their serum concentrations of FGF23 were measured by ELISA.ResultsWe studied 225 patients with EP, with a male: female ratio of 2.7:1 and a mean age of 47.6 ± 16.7 years. Twenty-five (11.1%) participants were diagnosed with heart failure during their hospital stay. AbstractEutrophication caused by nutrients and organic matter (OM) pollution is a common problem in the world. The contents of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and OM in sediments were determined in four typical lakes in southeastern Hubei, China, in the spring of 2019, and their pollution status was evaluated by organic and comprehensive pollution indexes to identify pollution sources and provide specific directions for the pollution control in key areas of the lakes. We found the following: (1) Both nutrients and OM in Cihu Lake and Bao’an Lake were relatively high. Cihu Lake had the highest nutrient and OM in both surface and core sediments. TN, TP and OM in the surface sediments of Cihu Lake reached 700.9 mg/kg, 1668.8 mg/kg and 62.8 kg/g, respectively. The contents of nutrients and OM in Daye Lake and Liangzi Lake were relatively low. OM in these two lakes was significantly lower than that in the Cihu Lake (p 0.05). It indicated that the sources of nutrients and OM in sediments were not identical but were affected by many factors. However, the relationship between nutrients and OM was closer in core sediments. In the future, targeted measures should be taken to reduce sediment pollution based on specific pollution sources and pollution conditions in the four lakes, especially Cihu Lake.

AimThe aim of this study is to investigate the quality of life of nurses who collected nucleic acid samples throughout the COVID-19 epidemic's routine management, as well as the factors that may have influenced it.BackgroundAfter the outbreak of COVID-19, normalized epidemic prevention and control throughout China were implemented. Nucleic acid testing has become an effective measure for the early detection of virus-infected individuals. Nurses collecting nucleic acid samples undertake important tasks. Their quality of life is significant to maintaining team stability and containing the epidemic. However, research on their quality of life is still limited.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted on 1,292 nurses who collected nucleic acid samples from five tertiary general hospitals in Xi'an through self-reported electronic questionnaires (including general demographic information, the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale, the Social Support Rating Scale, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Scale). Descriptive, one-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression were performed using SPSS 26.0. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the influencing factors.ResultsThe nurses collecting nucleic acid samples had a modest level of quality of life. Age, marital status, average daily sleep duration, frequency of exercise, psychological resilience, and social support were all influencing factors of quality of life, according to multiple linear regression analysis. Quality of life was found to be significantly related to psychological resilience and social support.ConclusionDemographic characteristics, psychological resilience, and social support are the factors affecting the quality of life of nurses who collect nucleic acid samples. Nursing managers should focus more on these factors to improve the quality of life for nurses.Relevance to clinical practiceNursing managers should realize the importance of the quality of life of nurses who collect nucleic acid samples in maintaining a vigorous nursing team and ensuring optimized epidemic control. Social support should also be provided to nurses to improve their psychological resilience, thereby improving their quality of life.

In the era of multi-messenger astronomy, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with known redshifts, especially high-redshift GRBs, are a powerful tool for studying the structure and evolution of the early Universe. We review the background, the history, and the application of measurement methods of GRB redshifts in astronomy. Based on different observation targets, two measurement methods are mainly introduced. One is on GRB afterglow, the other is on GRB host galaxy. There are various processing methods belonging to measurement methods based on afterglow, including spectral measurement method of afterglow and afterglow spectral energy distribution fitting method with improved methods. There are also numerous measurement methods based on host galaxy, such as spectral measurement method of host galaxy, template matching method of host galaxy, some automatic spectroscopic redshift measurement methods, and machine learning methods. We subsequently introduce the principles, effects, and performance of these methods. We enumerate several detection and measurement instruments, which have been used in observation. The characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and applicability of the GRB redshift measurement methods are summarized and analyzed. Furthermore, we provide a data set of 611 GRBs with measured redshift. The data set has been collected since 1997. Analysis and statistics are presented based on this data set. We summarize the characteristics of GRBs such as location, time, and accuracy. Finally, we introduce Space-based multi-band astronomical Variable Objects Monitor (SVOM) mission dedicated to searching high redshift GRBs. We also introduce the application prospect of various redshift measurement methods in SVOM mission.

Background: Patients with schizophrenia (SCH) have deficits in source monitoring (SM), speech-in-noise recognition (SR), and auditory prosody recognition. This study aimed to test the covariation between SM and SR alteration induced by negative prosodies and their association with psychiatric symptoms in SCH. Methods: Fifty-four SCH patients and 59 healthy controls (HCs) underwent a speech SM task, an SR task, and the assessment of positive and negative syndrome scale (PANSS). We used the multivariate analyses of partial least squares (PLS) regression to explore the associations among SM (external/internal/new attribution error [AE] and response bias [RB]), SR alteration/release induced by four negative-emotion (sad, angry, fear, and disgust) prosodies of target speech, and psychiatric symptoms. Results: In SCH, but not HCs, a profile (linear combination) of SM (especially the external-source RB) was positively associated with a profile of SR reductions (induced especially by the angry prosody). Moreover, two SR reduction profiles (especially in the anger and sadness conditions) were related to two profiles of psychiatric symptoms (negative symptoms, lack of insight, and emotional disturbances). The two PLS components explained 50.4% of the total variances of the release-symptom association. Conclusion: Compared to HCs, SCH is more likely to perceive the external-source speech as internal/new source speech. The SM-related SR reduction induced by the angry prosody was mainly associated with negative symptoms. These findings help understand the psychopathology of SCH and may provide a potential direction to improve negative symptoms via minimizing emotional SR reduction in schizophrenia.

Abstract Magnolia sinostellata is one of the endangered species in China and largely suffers light deficiency stress in the understory of forest. However, the weak light response molecular mechanism remains unclear. More importantly, hub genes in the molecular network have not been pinpointed. To explore potential regulators in the mechanism, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was performed to analysis the trancriptome data of M. sinostellata leaves subjected to weak light with different time points. Gene co-expression analysis illustrated that module 1, 2 and 3 were closely associated with light deficiency treatment, which. Gene ontology and KEGG analyses showed that genes in module 1 mainly participated in amino and nucleotide metabolism, module 2 mostly involved in carbon fixation and module 3 mostly regulated photosynthesis related pathways, among which 6, 7 and 8 hub genes were identified, respectively. Hub genes isoform_107196 in module 1 and isoform_55976 in module 2 were unique to M. sinostellata. This study found that light deficiency inhibited photosynthesis and stress tolerance, while improved carbon metabolism and flowering related pathways in M. sinostellata, which can impact its accumulation reserves of growth and reproduction in the next season. In addition, key shade response regulators identified in this study have laid a firm foundation for further investigation of shade response molecular mechanism and protection of other shade sensitive plants.

Abstract Capacitors and sensors based on polymer dielectric materials are key components in electrical systems and electronic devices. Considering the temperature rise during operation, an effective evaluation method for the thermal ageing of polymer matrix is urgently needed. P(VDF‐HFP) film with a thickness of 20 μm is manufactured by solution casting and a thermal ageing experiment up to 1000 h is conducted. Dielectric responses of wide ranges of temperatures and frequencies are measured for samples with different ageing durations. The universal relaxation law and Dissado–Hill dielectric response model are applied to further investigate the results. The characteristics of individual processes are obtained, which demonstrate that the main chain relaxation following the Vogel−Fulcher−Tammann equation and side chain relaxation following the Arrhenius equation both remain unchanged after thermal ageing. However, the activation energies of those two processes change significantly during the process and show different variation trends. The activation energy of the side chain relaxation gets larger monotonically due to the influence of annealing and the breaking of crystalline region. As a result, a non‐destructive evaluation method for the thermal ageing of P(VDF‐HFP) is proposed accordingly.

Abstract Non-Hermitian quantum systems exhibit many novel physical properties of quantum states. We consider a non-Hermtian graphene model based on the tight-binding approximation with the coupling of the graphene and the substrate. We analyze the complex energy structure of this model and its exceptional points as well as relevant topological invariants. We give the analytic complex Berry connection and Berry curvature in the Brillouin zone and investigate numerically the relationships between the complex Berry curvature and the complex energy band structures. We find that the behaviors of the complex Berry curvature depend on the complex energy band structures. The occurrence of the peaks of both real and imaginary parts of the complex Berry curvature corresponds to the exceptional (gapless) points in the Brillouin zone. In particular, the Dirac cone of the imaginary part of the Berry curvature occurs and corresponding to the occurrence of the flat real energy band for the non-Hermitian parameter $$\eta =3$$ η = 3 . These results provide some novel insights to the relationship between the non-Hermitian graphene, geometry, and topological invariants.

Abstract Background Glaucoma can cause irreversible blindness to people’s eyesight. Since there are no symptoms in its early stage, it is particularly important to accurately segment the optic disc (OD) and optic cup (OC) from fundus medical images for the screening and prevention of glaucoma. In recent years, the mainstream method of OD and OC segmentation is convolution neural network (CNN). However, most existing CNN methods segment OD and OC separately and ignore the a priori information that OC is always contained inside the OD region, which makes the segmentation accuracy of most methods not high enough. Methods This paper proposes a new encoder–decoder segmentation structure, called RSAP-Net, for joint segmentation of OD and OC. We first designed an efficient U-shaped segmentation network as the backbone. Considering the spatial overlap relationship between OD and OC, a new Residual spatial attention path is proposed to connect the encoder–decoder to retain more characteristic information. In order to further improve the segmentation performance, a pre-processing method called MSRCR-PT (Multi-Scale Retinex Colour Recovery and Polar Transformation) has been devised. It incorporates a multi-scale Retinex colour recovery algorithm and a polar coordinate transformation, which can help RSAP-Net to produce more refined boundaries of the optic disc and the optic cup. Results The experimental results show that our method achieves excellent segmentation performance on the Drishti-GS1 standard dataset. In the OD and OC segmentation effects, the F1 scores are 0.9752 and 0.9012, respectively. The BLE are 6.33 pixels and 11.97 pixels, respectively. Conclusions This paper presents a new framework for the joint segmentation of optic discs and optic cups, called RSAP-Net. The framework mainly consists of a U-shaped segmentation skeleton and a residual space attention path module. The design of a pre-processing method called MSRCR-PT for the OD/OC segmentation task can improve segmentation performance. The method was evaluated on the publicly available Drishti-GS1 standard dataset and proved to be effective.

Objective For pelvic ring fractures, screw fixation became a popular technique for its good biomechanical performance. The safe insertion of anterograde the transpubic screw is important for patients with anterior pelvic ring fractures. This paper is to research the anatomical parameters of the anterograde transpubic screw corridor and evaluate the safety of anterograde transpubic screw placement assisted by the assembled navigation template. Methods Fifty subjects with normal pelvic, 25 men and 25 women, age from 20 to 60 were enrolled, and their ilium were 3D reconstructed. The ilium was divided into zone I, zone II and zone III. Zone I and zone III was defined as medial and lateral to the obturator foramen, respectively. Zone II is located between zones I and III. The corridor A is formed by zone I and zone II and corridor B is formed by zone I, zone II and zone III. The diameter and length of the inner circle, the distance from the center of the inner circle to the posterior superior and to the inferior iliac spine of corridor A and corridor B were measured, respectively. Nine patients with pelvic fractures underwent anterograde transpubic screw and transverse sacroiliac screw placement assisted by the assembled navigation template and were retrospectively analyzed. Operation time, blood loss, incision length and fluoroscopy times were recorded. Grading score and Matta score were evaluated after surgery. Results In the 50 subjects, the diameter of corridor A was 11.16 ± 2.13 mm, and that of corridor B was 8.54 ± 1.52 mm. The length of corridor A was 86.39 ± 9.35 mm, and that of corridor B was 117.05 ± 5.91 mm. The surface distance from the screw entry point to the posterior superior iliac spine in corridor A was 109.31 ± 11.06 mm, and that in corridor B was 127.86 ± 8.23 mm. The surface distance from the screw entry point to the posterior inferior iliac spine in corridor A was 91.16 ± 10.34 mm, and that in corridor B was 106.92 ± 7.91 mm. A total of 18 sacroiliac transverse screws and 11 anterograde transpubic screws were inserted assisted by assembled navigation templates for nine patients. The average operation time was 108.75 ± 25.71 min, the blood loss was 141.11 ± 50.21 ml, the incision length was 14 ± 4.62 cm, and the intraoperative fluoroscopy was 17.89 ± 4.01 times. Conclusion Transpubic screw corridor can be obtained by 3D reconstruction. For the majority of patients, the anterograde pubic ramus corridor accommodated a 6.5 mm diameter screw. It is safe to use anterograde transpubic screw placement assisted by an assembled navigation template.

We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of costimulatory molecules in PAAD by generating a CMS. Gene expression data and clinical factors of PAAD patients were obtained from TCGA. The signature was constructed using the survival package progressive Cox risk proportional regression model. Analyses of CMS-related genes, pathways, immune cell infiltration, and somatic mutations were conducted. A five-gene-based CMS was developed, and the risk score for CMS could be an independent risk factor for PAAD patients. Patients were divided into high- and low-risk groups based on the median Y of the CMS model. Differential analysis revealed 341 DEGs between the groups, and KEGG analysis demonstrated that these positively related genes in the high-risk group were mainly involved in chemical synaptic transmission pathway modulation and trans-synaptic signaling pathway regulation. Immune cell infiltration analysis revealed that the high-risk patients had higher proportions of M1 macrophages and T+ CD4 cells, but a lower proportion of M2 macrophages than that of the low-risk group. Mutational analysis revealed that the high-risk group showed a higher proportion of somatic mutations compared with that of the low-risk group. A CMS was developed, and the risk score could be an independent risk factor for PAAD patients.

In this study, we prepared a folic acid-functionalized SMMC-7721 liver cancer cell membrane (CM)-encapsulated paclitaxel nanocrystals system (FCPN) for hepatoma treatment. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization showed that FCPN was irregular spherical shapes with a particle size larger than 200 nm and a coated thickness of approximately 20 nm. In an in vitro release experiment, FCPN indicated a slowly release effect of paclitaxel (PTX). Cell experiments demonstrated that FCPN was taken up by SMMC-7721 cells and significantly inhibited the proliferation of SMMC-7721 cells, which illustrated that FCPN had good targeting ability compared with PN and CPN. According to the results of in vivo animal experiments, FCPN significantly inhibited tumor growth. Tissue distribution experiments proved that FCPN could accumulate significantly in tumor tissues, which further explained why FCPN had good targeting ability. These results clearly suggested that folate-functionalized homotypic CM bionic nanosystems might represent a very valuable method for liver cancer treatment in the future.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious central nervous system disease, and secondary injury, including oxidative stress, the inflammatory response and accompanying neuronal apoptosis, will aggravate the condition. Due to the existence of the blood–spinal cord barrier (BSCB), the existing drugs for SCI treatment are difficulty to reach the injury site and thus their efficacy is limited. In this study, we designed chitosan-modified hollow manganese dioxide nanoparticles (CM) for the delivery of resveratrol to help it pass through the BSCB. Resveratrol (Res), a poorly soluble drug, was adsorbed into CM with a particle size of approximately 130 nm via the adsorption method, and the drug loading reached 21.39 ± 2.53%. In vitro dissolution experiment, the Res release of the loaded sample (CMR) showed slowly release behavior and reached about 87% at 36 h. In vitro at the cellular level and in vivo at the animal level experiments demonstrated that CMR could alleviate significantly oxidative stress by reducing level of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and increasing glutathione peroxidase (GSH) level. Additionally, immunofluorescence (iNOS, IL-1β, and Cl caspase-3) and western blot (iNOS, cox-2, IL-1β, IL-10, Cl caspase-3, bax, and bcl-2) were used to detect the expression of related factors, which verified that CMR could also reduce inflammation and neuronal apoptosis. These results indicated that CM, as a potential central nervous system drug delivery material, was suitable for SCI treatment.

The waning humoral immunity and emerging contagious severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants resulted in the necessity of the booster vaccination of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The inactivated vaccine, CoronaVac, is the most widely supplied COVID-19 vaccine globally. Whether the CoronaVac booster elicited adaptive responses that cross-recognize SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VoCs) among 77 healthy subjects receiving the third dose of CoronaVac were explored. After the boost, remarkable elevated spike-specific IgG and IgA responses, as well as boosted neutralization activities, were observed, despite 3.0-fold and 5.9-fold reduced neutralization activities against Delta and Omicron strains compared to that of the ancestral strain. Furthermore, the booster dose induced potent B cells and memory B cells that cross-bound receptor-binding domain (RBD) proteins derived from VoCs, while Delta and Omicron RBD-specific memory B cell recognitions were reduced by 2.7-fold and 4.2-fold compared to that of ancestral strain, respectively. Consistently, spike-specific circulating follicular helper T cells (cTfh) significantly increased and remained stable after the boost, with a predominant expansion towards cTfh17 subpopulations. Moreover, SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells peaked and sustained after the booster. Notably, CD4+ and CD8+ T cell recognition of VoC spike was largely preserved compared to the ancestral strain. Individuals without generating Delta or Omicron neutralization activities had comparable levels of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells responses as those with detectable neutralizing activities. Our study demonstrated that the CoronaVac booster induced broad and potent adaptive immune responses that could be effective in controlling SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Omicron variants.

Pigeon paramyxovirus type 1 (PPMV-1), an antigenic variant of avian paramyxovirus type 1 (APMV-1), mainly infects pigeons. PPMV-1 genotype VI is the dominant genotype infecting pigeons in China. Human infection of avian paramyxovirus was rarely reported, and usually developed mild symptoms, such as conjunctivitis. We detected PPMV-1 in the lower respiratory sample from a fatal case with severe pneumonia; this patient aged 64 years presented cough, fever, and haemoptysis for 8 days and was admitted to hospital on Dec 26, 2020. He developed acute respiratory distress syndrome and sepsis in the following days and died of multiple organ failure on Jan 7, 2021. Sputum and blood culture reported multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (ABA) for samples collected on days 22 and 19 post-illness, respectively. However, clinical metagenomic sequencing further reported PPMV-1 besides ABA in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. The PPMV-1 genome showed 99.21% identity with a Chinese strain and belonged to VI genotype by BLAST analysis. Multiple basic amino acids were observed at the cleavage site of F protein (113RKKRF117), which indicated high virulence of this PPMV-1 strain to poultry. The patient had close contact with pigeons before his illness, and PPMV-1 nucleic acid was detected from the pigeon feather. PPMV antibody was also detected in the patient serum 20 days after illness. In conclusion, concurrent PPMV-1 genotype VI.2.1.1.2.2 and ABA infection were identified in a fatal pneumonia case, and cross-species transmission of PPMV-1 may occur between infected pigeons and the human being.

Abstract To solve the problem of "bridgehead bumping" in the transition section between the road and bridge of an expressway in a collapsible loess area, a lime–soil compaction pile composite foundation is used for the first time in the transition section between the road and bridge of an expressway in China; the loess subgrade is improved by adding lime, and the subgrade is arranged in a multilayer geogrid for the joint treatment of various engineering measures. At the same time, a new type of precision differential pressure settlement meter is used to monitor the long-term settlement of a bridge–subgrade transition section with a small settlement magnitude after the joint treatment, and the distribution characteristics and variation laws of the settlement along the longitudinal direction of the line are obtained. The results show that the effect is better and the differential settlement is smaller when using a lime–soil compaction pile composite foundation; lime improves the loess subgrade backfill, and the multilayer geogrid addresses the bridge–subgrade transition in the collapsible loess area. The differential settlement and settlement rate of the subgrade and abutment increase with increased monitoring time, and the differential settlement increases gradually, while the growth rate decreases gradually and finally tends to be stable. The differential settlement of the transition section is predicted and analysed by using a hyperbolic curve, exponential curve and their combination in a prediction model, and the prediction analysis shows that the combined prediction model has the best prediction effect. These research results can provide guidance and reference for the design and construction of subgrade structures similar to the wet transition section between roads and bridges.

This study aimed to investigate the long-term biocompatibility, safety, and degradation of the ultrathin nitrided iron bioresorbable scaffold (BRS) in vivo, encompassing the whole process of bioresorption in porcine coronary arteries. Fifty-two nitrided iron scaffolds (strut thickness of 70 μm) and 28 Vision Co–Cr stents were randomly implanted into coronary arteries of healthy mini-swine. The efficacy and safety of the nitrided iron scaffold were comparable with those of the Vision stentwithin 52 weeks after implantation. In addition, the long-term biocompatibility, safety, and bioresorption of the nitrided iron scaffold were evaluated by coronary angiography, optical coherence tomography, micro-computed tomography, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry and histopathological evaluations at 4, 12, 26, 52 weeks and even at 7 years after implantation. In particular, a large number of struts were almost completely absorbed in situ at 7 years follow-up, which were first illustrated in this study. The lymphatic drainage pathway might serve as the potential clearance way of iron and its corrosion products.

Alkaline protease, pepsin and trypsin were used to hydrolyze the bones and meat, shell and skirt of Chinese soft-shelled turtle to prepare functional peptides, and their physical and chemical properties such as main conformational changes and particle size were analyzed. The potential bone mineral density-regulating activity of each enzymatic hydrolyzate was evaluated by measuring the effect on proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells. The results showed that the protein content of Chinese soft-shelled turtle shell and skirt dry powder was 54.18%, and the protein content of bone and meat dry powder was 80.38%. After 2 h of enzymatic hydrolysis, the molecular weights of alkaline protease and trypsin hydrolyzed products were concentrated below 1000 Da, and the molecular weight distribution of pepsin hydrolyzed products was relatively uniform. The structure of the enzymatic hydrolysis products was dominated by random coil, and the particle sizes were concentrated in the 20 and 200 nm regions, indicating that the enzymatic hydrolysis was sufficient. The content of essential amino acids such as lysine, valine, phenylalanine, leucine and threonine in the enzymatic hydrolysis products was relatively high, and the content of glycine, alanine and proline in non-essential amino acids was relatively high. Among them, the total amount of essential amino acids after enzymatic hydrolysis of Chinese soft-shelled turtle bones and meat by pepsin reached 39.81%. The results of cell experiments showed that the six enzymatic hydrolysates had a certain pro-osteogenic activity, and the proliferative activities of the enzymatic hydrolysates of shell and skirt were stronger than those of bone meat, and the activity of the shell and skirt products of pepsin enzymatic hydrolysis was the best. The above data showed that the enzymatic hydrolysate of Chinese soft-shelled turtle had potential bone density regulation activity. This research provides feasibility analysis and theoretical reference for deep processing of Chinese soft-shelled turtle products.

Abstract Fibrosing interstitial lung disease (ILD) can cause high mortality and sensitive evaluation of fibrosing ILD could be critical. The aim of this study is to develop a scoring system to predict prognosis of fibrosing ILD. 339 patients with fibrosing ILD were enrolled as a derivation cohort. Cox multiple regression analysis indicated that smoking history (HR = 3.826, p = 0.001), age(HR = 1.043, p = 0.015), CEA(HR = 1.059, p = 0.049),CYFRA21-1(HR = 1.177, p = 0.004) and DLCO% predicted (HR = 0.979, p = 0.032) were independent prognostic factors for fibrosing ILD. The clinical scoring system for fibrosing ILD was established based on the clinical variables (age [A], CEA and CYFRA21-1 [C], DLCO% predicted [D], and smoking history [S]; ACDS). Abstract Background Pulmonary tele-rehabilitation can improve adherence to pulmonary rehabilitation. However, there are few reports on home based pulmonary tele-rehabilitation. We assessed the effectiveness of home based pulmonary tele-rehabilitation under telemedicine system in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods This cohort study enrolled 174 patients with COPD who received home based pulmonary tele-rehabilitation under telemedicine system. The follow-up time was 12 weeks. Patients were grouped according to pulmonary rehabilitation weeks, number of rehabilitation times and total duration time, and when these three data were inconsistent, the two lowest values were grouped: control group (total rehabilitation weeks 0.05). In the 12-week pulmonary rehabilitation program, patients who completed at least 8 weeks, namely those in the PR-3 and PR-4 groups, accounted for 42.5% of the total number. Education, income and response rate to telemedicine system reminders were the main risk factors associated with home based pulmonary tele-rehabilitation. Conclusions Home based pulmonary tele-rehabilitation under telemedicine system for more than 8 weeks can significantly improve the dyspnea symptoms, 6MWD, diaphragmatic mobility during deep breathing, and negative emotions of patients with moderate to severe stable COPD. Abstract. Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) virus infection is an important threat to global health despite the administration of vaccines and the use of antiviral treatments. In recent years, as the prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome has increased, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in patients with CHB has become more common. Both diseases can lead to liver fibrosis and even hepatocellular carcinoma, but the risk of dual etiology, outcome, and CHB combined with NAFLD is not fully elucidated. In this review, we assess the overlapping prevalence of NAFLD and CHB, summarize recent studies of clinical and basic research related to potential interactions, and evaluate the progressive changes of treatments for CHB patients with NAFLD. This review increases the understanding of the relationship and mechanisms of interaction between steatosis and hepatitis B virus infection, and it provides new strategies for the future clinical management and treatment of CHB combined with NAFLD.

Abstract Background Recent publications reported a paradoxical finding that there was an inverse association between the number of standard modifiable risk factors (SMuRFs; smoking, hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia) and mortality in patients with myocardial infarction. However, the current evidence is only limited to those highly developed countries with advanced medical management systems. Methods The China Acute Myocardial Infarction registry is a prospective observational study including patients with acute myocardial infarction from three-level hospitals across 31 administrative regions throughout mainland China. A total of 16,228 patients with first-presentation ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) admitted to hospitals from January 2013 to September 2014 were enrolled in the current analysis. Cox proportional hazard models adjusting for baseline characteristics, clinical profiles at presentation, and in-hospital treatments were used to assess the association of the number of SMuRFs with all-cause mortality at 30 days after STEMI presentation. Results A total of 1918 (11.8%), 11,503 (70.9%), and 2807 (17.3%) patients had 0, 1–2, and 3–4 SMuRFs at presentation, respectively. Patients with fewer SMuRFs were older and more likely to be females, experienced longer pre-hospital delays, and were less likely to receive primary percutaneous coronary intervention and evidence-based medications. Compared with those without any SMuRF, patients with 1–2 SMuRFs and 3–4 SMuRFs were associated with an HR of 0.74 (95% CI, 0.63–0.87) and 0.63 (0.51–0.77) for all-cause mortality up to 30 days in the unadjusted model (P trend < 0.0001). However, after multivariate adjustment, the number of SMuRFs was positively associated with increased mortality risk (HR for 1–2 SMuRFs, 1.15 [0.95–1.39]; HR for 3–4 SMuRFs, 1.31 [1.02–1.68]; P trend = 0.03), and the association was only significant among patients admitted to hospitals beyond 12 h from onset (HR for 1–2 SMuRFs, 1.39 [1.03–1.87]; HR for 3–4 SMuRFs, 2.06 [1.41–3.01]) but not their counterparts (P interaction = 0.01). Conclusions The increased crude mortality risk among patients without SMuRFs is explained by confounding factors related to their poor risk profiles (old age, longer pre-hospital delays, and poor clinical management). After multivariate adjustment, a higher risk-factor burden was associated with poor prognosis among patients with STEMI.

Abstract Background Hoverflies (Diptera: Syrphidae) including Eupeodes corollae are important insects worldwide that provide dual ecosystem services including pest control and pollination. The larvae are dominant predators of aphids and can be used as biological control agents, and the adults are efficient pollinators. The different feeding habits of larvae and adults make hoverflies a valuable genetic resource for understanding the mechanisms underlying the evolution and adaptation to predation and pollination in insects. Results Here, we present a 595-Mb high-quality reference genome of the hoverfly E. corollae, which is typical of an aphid predator and a pollinator. Comparative genomic analyses of E. corollae and Coccinellidae (ladybugs, aphid predators) shed light on takeout genes (3), which are involved in circadian rhythms and feeding behavior and might regulate the feeding behavior of E. corollae in a circadian manner. Genes for sugar symporter (12) and lipid transport (7) related to energy production in E. corollae had homologs in pollinator honeybees and were absent in predatory ladybugs. A number of classical cytochrome P450 detoxification genes, mainly CYP6 subfamily members, were greatly expanded in E. corollae. Notably, comparative genomic analyses of E. corollae and other aphidophagous hoverflies highlighted three homologous trypsins (Ecor12299, Ecor12301, Ecor2966). Transcriptome analysis showed that nine trypsins, including Ecor12299, Ecor12301, and Ecor2966, are strongly expressed at the larval stage, and 10 opsin genes, which are involved in visual perception, are significantly upregulated at the adult stage of E. corollae. Conclusions The high-quality genome assembly provided new insights into the genetic basis of predation and pollination by E. corollae and is a valuable resource for advancing studies on genetic adaptations and evolution of hoverflies and other natural enemies.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID) via the inner border of the inferior pedicle approach for downmigrated disc herniation. Methods Seventeen patients who had downmigrated disc herniation were included in this study from May 2020 to February 2021. After PEID via the inner border of the inferior pedicle approach, a retrospective study was conducted on all patients. Radiologic findings were investigated, and based on the level of migration seen on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), participants were divided into two types (high-grade and low-grade migrations). Preoperative, 1st post-operative day, 3rd post-operative month, and the final follow-up visual analogue scale (VAS) assessments for back and leg pain and preoperative, 3rd post-operative month, and the final follow-up Oswestry disability index (ODI) evaluations were performed. The clinical effects at the final follow-up were assessed by the modified MacNab criterion. Results All patients successfully completed surgery. There were 10 males and 7 females in the group. These patients were 42 years old on average (range, 25–68 years). Four and 13 patients had downmigrated disc herniation with high-grade and low-grade, respectively, on MRI. The mean follow-up duration was 10.47 ± 1.84 months (range, 8–14 months). The mean VAS score for back and leg improved from 5.18 ± 0.81 preoperatively to 1.35 ± 0.49 at the final follow-up (P

Abstract Phosphorus (P) deficiency is the main hurdle in achieving sustainable crop production ps especially in calcareous soils. Using bio-fertilizers like phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) could be a useful approach for sustainable P management as they improve P availability in soil via dissolution, desorption and mineralization reactions. In addition, application of organic amendments with PSB could further ameliorate soil conditions for sustainable management of immobilized nutrients in calcarious soils. Therefore, we performed pot experiment to study the role of PSB in nullifying antagonistic effects of liming (4.78, 10, 15 and 20%) on P availability from poultry manure (PM), farm yard manure (FYM), single super phosphate (SSP) and rock phosphate (RP) in alkaline soils. PSB inoculation improved wheat growth, P availability and stimulated soil acidification over control regardless of P sources and lime levels. Soil calcification adversely affected plant growth, P nutrition, induced soil salinity and alkalinity, however, PSB and manures application potentially nullified such harmful effects over mentioned traits. Individually, organic sources were superior than mineral sources however, the performance of mineral fertilizers with PSB was at par to sole application of manures. Furthermore, application of RP with PSB proved as effective as sole SSP. Therefore, using PSB as bio-fertilizer has huge potential for improving P availability in calcareous soils.

ABSTRACT The increased transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) has raised questions regarding the environmental stability of these viruses. Although a prolonged survival time has been reported for SARS-CoV-2, how long new variants can persist on contaminated surfaces and how environmental factors affect the persistence time are not fully characterized. The present study provides a comprehensive assessment of the stability of Omicron variants BA.1 and BA.5, which are currently circulating strains, on the surfaces of widely used transport packaging materials. By monitoring viable virus detection over a 7-day period under different environmental conditions, it was found that the environmental stability of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants depended heavily on the surface type, temperature, and virus concentration. In addition, virus nucleic acid exhibited high stability on the material surface independent of whether viable virus was detected. These findings provide useful information for logistics practitioners and the general public to appropriately deal with transport items under different conditions to minimize the risk of epidemic transmission. IMPORTANCE This study shows the environmental stability of SARS-CoV-2 Variants Omicron BA.1 and BA.5 on surfaces of widely used transport packaging materials. The findings demonstrate that the environmental stability of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variants varies based on material type. The viability of SARS-CoV-2 on material surfaces depends heavily on temperature and viral titer. Low temperatures and high viral titers promote virus survival. Moreover, in contrast to virus viability, virus nucleic acid exhibits high stability on the surfaces of widely used materials, making the detection of virus nucleic acid unsuitable for evaluating the risk of epidemic transmission.

ObjectivesTo examine national trends in unhealthy lifestyle factors among adults with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the United States (US) between 1999 and 2018.MethodsWe analyzed data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a nationally representative survey of participants with CVD who were aged ≥20 years, which was conducted between 1999 and 2000 and 2017–2018. CVD was defined as a self-report of congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, angina, heart attack, or stroke. The prevalence rate of each unhealthy lifestyle factor was calculated among adults with CVD for each of the 2-year cycle surveys. Regression analyses were used to assess the impact of sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, race/ethnicity, family income, education level, marital status, and employment status).ResultsThe final sample included 5610 NHANES respondents with CVD. The prevalence rate of their current smoking status remained stable among respondents with CVD between 1999 and 2000 and 2017–2018. BackgroundThe evaluation of liver fibrosis is essential in the management of patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). We aimed to establish and validate an easy-to-use nomogram to identify AIH patients with advanced liver fibrosis.MethodsAIH patients who underwent liver biopsies were included and randomly divided into a training set and a validation set. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression was used to select independent predictors of advanced liver fibrosis from the training set, which were utilized to establish a nomogram. The performance of the nomogram was evaluated using the receiver characteristic curve (ROC), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA).ResultsThe median age of 235 patients with AIH was 54 years old, with 83.0% of them being female. Six independent factors associated with advanced fibrosis, including sex, age, red cell distribution width, platelets, alkaline phosphatase, and prothrombin time, were combined to construct a predictive AIH fibrosis (AIHF)-nomogram. The AIHF-nomogram showed good agreement with real observations in the training and validation sets, according to the calibration curve. The AIHF-nomogram performed significantly better than the fibrosis-4 and aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio scores in the training and validation sets, with an area under the ROCs for predicting advanced fibrosis of 0.804 in the training set and 0.781 in the validation set. DCA indicated that the AIHFI-nomogram was clinically useful. The nomogram will be available at http://ndth-zzy.shinyapps.io/AIHF-nomogram/as a web-based calculator.ConclusionsThe novel, easy-to-use web-based AIHF-nomogram model provides an insightful and applicable tool to identify AIH patients with advanced liver fibrosis.

This study investigated the in vitro antioxidant and anticancer properties of the Fomitopsis pinicola extract (EMFP). The antioxidant activity of EFMP was analysed via free radical scavenging (DPPH, ABTS and Hydroxyl radicals) assay and a protein oxidation assay. EFMP effectively scavenged free radicals and exhibited remarkable protection against protein oxidation. The proliferation of EMFP-treated HepG2 cells was remarkably decreased. EMFP effectively increased the reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, depleted the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and promoted the apoptosis of HepG2 cells. In addition, EMFP increased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content and reduced the activities of SOD, CAT and GPx in HepG2 cells. Using UPLC-Triple-TOF-MS, 2 phenolic compounds and 14 triterpenes were identified. These compounds may be the primary contributors to the antioxidant and anticancer capacities of EMFP. Together, these findings highlight the possibility of exploiting EMFP for its desired pharmaceutical ingredients.

ABSTRACT Rational engineering of gas-fermenting bacteria for high yields of bioproducts is vital for a sustainable bioeconomy. It will allow the microbial chassis to renewably valorize natural resources from carbon oxides, hydrogen, and/or lignocellulosic feedstocks more efficiently. To date, rational design of gas-fermenting bacteria such as changing the expression levels of individual enzymes to obtain the desired pathway flux is challenging, because pathway design must follow a verifiable metabolic blueprint indicating where interventions should be executed. Based on recent advances in constraint-based thermodynamic and kinetic models, we identify key enzymes in the gas-fermenting acetogen Clostridium ljungdahlii that correlate with the production of isopropanol. To this extent, we integrated a metabolic model in comparison with proteomics measurements and quantified the uncertainty for a variety of pathway targets needed to improve the bioproduction of isopropanol. Based on in silico thermodynamic optimization, minimal protein requirement analysis, and ensemble modeling-based robustness analysis, we identified the top two significant flux control sites, i.e., acetoacetyl-coenzyme A (CoA) transferase (AACT) and acetoacetate decarboxylase (AADC), overexpression of which could lead to increased isopropanol production. Our predictions directed iterative pathway construction, which enabled a 2.8-fold increase in isopropanol production compared to the initial version. The engineered strain was further tested under gas-fermenting mixotrophic conditions, where more than 4 g/L isopropanol was produced when CO, CO2, and fructose were provided as the substrates. In a bioreactor environment sparging with CO, CO2, and H2 only, the strain produced 2.4 g/L isopropanol. Our work highlighted that the gas-fermenting chasses can be fine-tuned for high-yield bioproduction by directed and elaborative pathway engineering. IMPORTANCE Highly efficient bioproduction from gaseous substrates (e.g., hydrogen and carbon oxides) will require systematic optimization of the host microbes. To date, the rational redesign of gas-fermenting bacteria is still in its infancy, due in part to the lack of quantitative and precise metabolic knowledge that can direct strain engineering. Here, we provide a case study by engineering isopropanol production in gas-fermenting Clostridium ljungdahlii. We demonstrate that a modeling approach based on the thermodynamic and kinetic analysis at the pathway level can provide actionable insights into strain engineering for optimal bioproduction. This approach may pave the way for iterative microbe redesign for the conversion of renewable gaseous feedstocks.

Zn dendrite growth and water-related side reactions have been criticized to hinder actual applications of aqueous Zn-ion batteries. To address these issues, a series of Zn interfacial modifications of building solid/electrolyte interphase (SEI) and nucleation layers have been widely proposed, however, their effectiveness remains debatable. Here, we report a boron nitride (BN)/Nafion layer on the Zn surface to efficiently solve Zn problems through combining the hybrid working mechanisms of SEI and nucleation layers. In our protective layer, Nafion exhibits the SEI mechanism by blocking water from the Zn surface and providing abundant channels for rapid Zn2+ transmission, whilst BN nanosheets induce Zn deposition underneath with a preferred (002) orientation. Accordingly, dendrite-free and side-reaction-free Zn electrode with (002) deposition under the protective layer is realized for the first time, as reflected by its high reversibility with average Coulombic efficiency of 99.2% for > 3000 ​h. The protected Zn electrode also shows excellent performance in full cells when coupling with polyaniline cathode under the strict condition of lean electrolyte addition. This work highlights insights for designing highly reversible metal electrodes towards practical applications.

Summary: Coronavirus porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is classified in the genus Alphacoronavirus, family Coronaviridae that encodes the only accessory protein, ORF3 protein. However, how ORF3 contributes to viral pathogenicity, adaptability, and replication is obscure. In this review, we summarize current knowledge and identify gaps in many aspects of ORF3 protein in PEDV, with emphasis on its unique biological features, including membrane topology, Golgi retention mechanism, potential intrinsic disordered property, functional motifs, protein glycosylation, and codon usage phenotypes related to genetic evolution and gene expression. In addition, we propose intriguing questions related to ORF3 protein that we hope to stimulate further studies and encourage collaboration among virologists worldwide to provide constructive knowledge about the unique characteristics and biological functions of ORF3 protein, by which their potential role in clarifying viral behavior and pathogenesis can be possible.

Illicium difengpi (Schisandraceae), which is an endemic, medicinal, and endangered species found in small and isolated populations that inhabit karst mountain areas, has evolved strategies to adapt to arid environments and is thus an excellent material for exploring the mechanisms of tolerance to severe drought. In experiment I, I. difengpi plants were subjected to three soil watering treatments (CK, well-watered treatment at 50% of the dry soil weight for 18 days; DS, drought stress treatment at 10% of the dry soil weight for 18 days; DS-R, drought-rehydration treatment at 10% of the dry soil weight for 15 days followed by rewatering to 50% of the dry soil weight for another 3 days). The effects of the drought and rehydration treatments on leaf succulence, phytohormones, and phytohormonal signal transduction in I. difengpi plants were investigated. In experiment II, exogenous abscisic acid (ABA, 60 mg L−1) and zeatin riboside (ZR, 60 mg L−1) were sprayed onto DS-treated plants to verify the roles of exogenous phytohormones in alleviating drought injury. Leaf succulence showed marked changes in response to the DS and DS-R treatments. The relative concentrations of ABA, methyl jasmonate (MeJA), salicylic acid glucoside (SAG), and cis-zeatin riboside (cZR) were highly correlated with relative leaf succulence. The leaf succulence of drought-treated I. difengpi plants recovered to that observed with the CK treatment after exogenous application of ABA or ZR. Differentially expressed genes involved in biosynthesis and signal transduction of phytohormones (ABA and JA) in response to drought stress were identified by transcriptomic profiling. The current study suggested that the phytohormones ABA, JA, and ZR may play important roles in the response to severe drought and provides a preliminary understanding of the physiological mechanisms involved in phytohormonal regulation in I. difengpi, an endemic, medicinal, and highly drought-tolerant plant found in extremely small populations in the karst region of South China.

Walnut protein is a high-quality vegetable protein with promising applications in the food industry; however, its potential is hindered by low solubility and associated properties. We utilized various physical modification techniques (cold plasma; ball milling; superfine grinding; ultrasound; wet ball milling; and high-pressure microjet) to enhance walnut proteins’ physicochemical and functional properties. The changes in particle size, microstructure, surface hydrophobicity, fluorescence, solubility, foaming, and emulsification were investigated. Cold plasma and ultrasound treatments minimally affected particle size and morphology. Cold plasma increased the particle size D4,3 from 145.20 μm to 152.50 μm. Ultrasonication reduced the particle size D4,3 to 138.00 μm. The variation was within ±10 μm, while the particle size of walnut protein significantly decreased after the other four modification treatments. The greatest variation in particle size was in the superfine grinding, with the D4,3 being reduced to 23.80 μm. Ultrasound treatment converted the β-sheet into an α-helix, while the other methods transformed the α-helix into a β-sheet. The dispersion stability notably improved after wet ball milling and high-pressure microjet treatments, which was accompanied by a significant increase in solubility from 6.9% (control) to 13.6% (wet ball milling) and 31.7% (high-pressure microjet). The foaming and emulsification properties were also enhanced through these modifications (foaming improved from 47% to 55.33% and emulsification improved from 4.32 m2/g to 8.27 m2/g). High-pressure microjet treatment proved most effective at improving solubility in the functional properties of walnut protein. These findings are expected to help broaden the potential utilization of walnut protein in the food industry, including in beverages and emulsions.

This paper develops a flexible power regulation and limitation strategy of voltage source inverters (VSIs) under unbalanced grid faults. When the classical power theory is used under unbalanced grid faults, the power oscillations and current distortions are inevitable. In the proposed strategy, the extended power theory is introduced to compute the power feedbacks together with the classical power theory. Based on the combination of the classical and extended power theory, the proposed strategy can achieve the sinusoidal current provision and the flexible regulation between three common targets, i.e., constant active power, balanced current, and constant reactive power. Meanwhile, the proposed strategy is associated with a power limiter, which is capable to keep the currents under the pre-defined threshold and to compute the maximum apparent power for better utilization of the inverter capacity. With this power limiter, the rated inverter capacity is fully used for both the active and reactive power provisions under unbalanced grid faults. Using the proposed power regulation and limitation, the VSI can avoid overcurrent tripping and flexibly regulate its power under unbalanced grid faults. All the conclusions are verified by the real-time hardware-in-loop tests.

Abstract We construct two and three-line shifts for tree-level amplitude with massless and/or massive particles, and provide a method to construct general multi-line shifts for all masses. We choose the massless-massive BCFW shift from these shifts and examine its validity in renormalizable theories. Using such a shift, we find that amplitudes with at least one massless vector boson are constructible. This reveals the importance of gauge theory in the construction of amplitudes with massive particles. We also find that this kind of amplitudes have a cancellation related to group structure among different channels, which is essential for constructibility. Furthermore, we show that in the limit of large shift parameter z, the amplitude with four massive vector bosons, which can include transverse massive vector particles, have structures proportional to the amplitude with shifted vector particles replaced by Goldstone bosons in the leading order. This is responsible for the failure of massive-massive BCFW recursion relations in the amplitudes with four massive vector bosons.

ABSTRACT: Objectives: Multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB) result in nosocomial infections and a substantial disease burden for hospitalised patients worldwide. However, strategies to control drug resistance at the hospital level are lacking. In this study, we aimed to find important indicators for risk assessment and predicting MDRB infections in the hospital. Methods: Using real-world data and machine learning models, we conducted a retrospective study from 2010 to 2020 in a teaching hospital to analyse the trends and characteristics of MDRB infections. Combining 39 hospital indicators, we used a random forest model and cross-correlation analysis to explore the important factors affecting MDRB and their predictive power. We built a decision tree model to predict the number of hospitalised patients with MDRB infection. Results: The number of hospitalised rescues and rate of rational perioperative antibacterial drug use in type I and II incision operations were correlated with the number of patients with MDRB infection after 1–2 months. The number of hospitalised operations and rate of antibiotics use in emergency patients had an effect on current MDRB-susceptible patients. The indicators, including hospital operation volume and antibacterial drug use, had a positive or negative quantitative relationship with the number of patients with MDRB infection, and their thresholds could be fit to the MDRB prediction model. Conclusion: Surgical, emergency, and hospitalised rescue patients showed the highest risk of MDRB infection. Standardised indicators such as clinical pathway rate and rational antibiotic use rate could be used to control the development and spread of MDRB infections in the hospital.

Objective: Multiple myeloma (MM) remains incurable with high rates of relapse. New therapeutic drugs are therefore urgently needed to improve the prognosis. JaponiconeA (JA), a natural product isolated from Inula japonica Thunb, has shown good anti-MM potential. A comprehensive study should therefore be conducted to identify both the in vitro and in vivo mechanisms of the anti-MM effects of JA. Methods: CCK8 assays and flow cytometry were used to detect the proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle of MM cell lines when treated with JA. In vivo experiments were conducted using subcutaneous xenograft mouse models. We also identified possible targets and the mechanism of JA using RNA-seq and c-Map databases, and identified the specific targets of JA in bortezomib-sensitive and -resistant MM cell lines using CETSA, DARTS, and rescue experiments. Furthermore, JA and bortezomib were used separately or together to characterize their possible synergistic effects. Results: In vitro, JA inhibited proliferation, and induced apoptosis and G2/M phase arrest in MM cell lines, and selectively killed primary CD138+ MM cells. In vivo, JA also demonstrated a strong anti-tumor effect with no observable toxicity. In addition, JA showed synergetic effects in combination with bortezomib, and enhanced the anti-tumor effect of bortezomib in bortezomib-resistant cells. CETSA and DARTS confirmed direct binding of JA to NF-κB inhibitor kinase beta (IKKβ), and overexpression of IKKβ or knockdown of IκBα partially rescued the apoptosis induced by JA. Conclusions: JA exhibited strong anti-tumor effects in MM. It sensitized myeloma cells to bortezomib and overcame NF-κB-induced drug resistance by inhibiting IKKβ, providing a new treatment strategy for MM patients.
