Over the past years, herbarium collections worldwide have started to digitize millions of specimens on an industrial scale. Although the imaging costs are steadily falling, capturing the accompanying label information is still predominantly done manually and develops into the principal cost factor. In order to streamline the process of capturing herbarium specimen metadata, we specified a formal extensible workflow integrating a wide range of automated specimen image analysis services. We implemented the workflow on the basis of OpenRefine together with a plugin for handling service calls and responses. The evolving system presently covers the generation of optical character recognition (OCR) from specimen images, the identification of regions of interest in images and the extraction of meaningful information items from OCR. These implementations were developed as part of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft funded a standardised and optimised process for data acquisition from digital images of herbarium specimens (StanDAP-Herb) Project.

Investigação sobre as relações entre hábitos de consumo de mídia e comportamento político-ideológico a partir de um survey aplicado a uma amostra do eleitorado juizforano. Foram realizadas 398 entrevistas estruturadas que permitiram a categorização dos respondentes quanto ao seu perfil de consumidor de informação e quanto às suas identidades, percepções, e atitudes políticas. O interesse é discutir a midiatização do campo político com foco no cidadão comum, observado, de um lado, como consumidor de mídias e, de outro, como sujeito participante da vida política, verificando quais relações podem ser estabelecidas entre esses dois aspectos da sociabilidade contemporânea. O resultado mostra relações significativas, por exemplo, de perfis atitudinais e comportamentais no âmbito político-ideológico com o consumo de determinados tipos de mídia ou com o nível de acesso dos indivíduos à diversidade de enquadramentos midiáticos da política, além de observar as características socioeconômicas dos entrevistados como fatores de mediação do consumo de mídia e da participação política. Research about relations between media consumption habits and political-ideological behavior from a survey applied to a sample of the Juiz-Forano electorate. A total of 398 structured interviews were carried out, which allowed a categorization of respondents regarding their information consumer profile and their identities, perceptions, and political attitudes. The interest is to discuss about the mediatization of the political area focusing on the common citizen, observed, with a point of view, as consumer of media and, on the other hand, as a participant subject of political life, verifying which relations could be made between those two aspects mentioned of contemporary sociability. The result shows significant relations, for example, of attitudinal and behavioral profiles in the political-ideological area with the consumption of certain types of media or with the level of the individuals's access to various framings of politics by media, besides observing the socioeconomic characteristics of interviewees as factors of mediation of media consumption and of the political participation.

Os autores referem o caso clínico de uma criança de 2 anos, sexo masculino e raça negra, que apresentava estridor desde os 2 meses de idade e na qual foi diagnosticado um linfangioma quístico mediastínico. A remoção cirúrgica levou ao desaparecimento da sintomatologia. É feita uma revisão teórica sobre esta temática abrangendo aspectos epidemiológicos, clínicos e terapêuticos. As cefaleias recorrentes são um problema frequente na prática clínica pediátrica. Os autores fazem um estudo prospectivo para avaliação clínica de um grupo de 51 crianças e adolescentes com cefaleias, seguidos numa consulta do Hospital Dona Estefânia. O diagnóstico foi baseado nos critérios da Sociedade Internacional de Cefaleias (IHS). A enxaqueca foi o diagnóstico mais frequente (n=49), sendo o carácter pulsátil e os sintomas gastrointestinais os elementos mais importantes para o diagnóstico. A unilateralidade das cefaleias só se verificou em 28% dos casos. As cefaleias de tensão embora muito menos frequentes que as enxaquecas também surgem na criança, levantando por vezes problemas de diagnóstico diferencial. OBJETIVE: To describe the reattachment rate and visual acuity results of patients with uncomplicated rhegmatogenous retinal detachment who underwent segmental scleral buckle surgery. METHODS: Prospective case series of 100 patients with visual loss or symptoms (floaters and photopsia) of less than 30 days' duration scheduled for surgery. No patient had a retinal break greater than 30°, a retinal detachment larger than 2 quadrants or proliferative vitreoretinopathy. RESULTS: The 1-week, 1-month, and 6-month anatomical success rates were 93%, 100%, and 100%, respectively. Seven patients underwent one additional retinal detachment surgery (pars plan vitrectomy) after primary failure at 1-week follow-up. The preoperative, 1-month, and 6-month best correct visual acuity were 20/100, 20/80, and 20/50, respectively. This article aims to describe the activities of the League of Gastroenterology, project linked to Dean of Extension Program of UFC and of Inflammatory Bowel Disease(IBD) Program, at University Hospital Walter Cantídeo, in Fortaleza. The League said the walk held annually Cearense for Crohn's and Colitis patients with IBD, for to disseminate information about these diseases, to draw the community's attention to the importance of these diseases, and especially to value our patients and demystify these disorders . It is important to emphasize the great value of health education activities to improve the knowledge of the general population, with a key role in the teaching- learning process between patients and health professionals. O presente artigo objetiva relatar as atividades realizadas pela Liga de Gastroenterologia, projeto vinculado à Pró-Reitoria de Extensão da UFC e pelo Programa de Doença Inflamatória Intestinal(DII) do Hospital Universitário Walter Cantídeo, em Fortaleza. A referida Liga realiza anualmente a Caminhada Cearense para Crohn e Colite com pacientes portadores de DII, a fim de divulgar informações sobre essas patologias, de chamar a atenção da comunidade para a importância dessas doenças e, principalmente, de valorizar nossos pacientes e desmitificar tais afecções. É importante ressaltar a grande valia de atividades de educação em saúde, para o aprimoramento do conhecimento da população em geral, sendo um papel fundamental no processo ensino-aprendizagem entre pacientes e profissionais de saúde.
