Abstract

We study whether and how pay disparities between chief executive officers (CEOs) and chief financial officers (CFOs) affect corporate policies. Consistent with the tournament theory, we find a positive association between the CEO–CFO pay disparity and aggressiveness in corporate financial and investment policies. Specifically, a firm with a large CEO–CFO pay disparity tends to have an aggressive capital structure and tilt toward high‐risk investments. Furthermore, we test the impact of the CEO–CFO pay disparity on firm value and show that the pay disparity is positively associated with firm value. Overall, we conclude that CEO–CFO pay disparities provide CFOs with tournament incentives to not only adopt aggressive corporate policies but also select better investment projects. Our research highlights the career‐enhancing and value‐creating effects of CEO–CFO pay disparities as well as the important role of CFOs' incentives on the treasurer side of their duties. Abstract

A hollow billet Expanding-Reducing Extrusion (ERE) wheel hub forming process was carried out with AZ80 magnesium alloy. The effects of ageing on Low-cycle fatigue (LCF) properties were investigated, and the microstructure was characterized with scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). The LCF testing results exhibited that the stress amplitude increased with increasing ageing time, while the plastic strain decreased with increasing ageing time. Cyclic softening followed by hardening was observed for 0 h and 16 h aged samples; however, there was no obvious cyclic softening or hardening for 36 h aged sample. The tension-compression asymmetry were not obvious due to the low strain, precipitation and the non typical basal texture. Fracture observations indicated that the fatigue cracks were initiated on the surface, and the crack propagation area decreased with increasing ageing time. Thus, it can be concluded that ageing has strong effects on the fatigue life for the studied magnesium alloy.

Abstract

Due to the low density and high specific strength, aluminum alloys have been considered for automotive and aerospace applications. The aluminum components usually service in the conditions of low temperature and dynamic loading. Therefore, the research on the low temperature fatigue performances of Al alloys has great significance. The lowcycle fatigue tests for the extruded Al-7Zn-2Mg-1.5Cu-0.2Sc-0.1Zr alloy subjected to solution plus aging treatment have been conducted at 25°C and -40°C, respectively. The strain ratio and cyclic frequency applied in the low-cycle fatigue test were -1 and 0.5Hz, respectively. The experimental results show that at 25°C, the alloy exhibits the cyclic hardening at the total strain amplitudes of 1.0% and 1.2%, and the cyclic stabilization at the total strain amplitudes of 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8%. At -40°C, however, the cyclic stability is observed during whole fatigue deformation at the total strain amplitudes of 0.4%, 0.5%, 0.6%, 0.7% and 0.8%. The relationship between the elastic strain amplitude, plastic strain amplitude and reversals to failure can be described by Basquin and Coffin-Manson equations, respectively. In addition, the observation results of fatigue fracture surfaces reveal that the cracks initiate at the free surface of fatigue specimen and propagate in a transgranular mode.

Abstract

According to the meteorological requirements of maize and potato, using the data of meteorological observations and soil moisture of Pengzhou City, the agricultural climatic resources of spring maize and spring potato planting and the advantages of agricultural climatic resources of their intercropping were analyzed. The suitable sowing dates for spring maize and spring potato are late March to early April, early February to early March, respectively. During the growth period, the heat resources are abundant, the soil moisture is sufficient, the precipitation and overall distribution are suitable, and the sunshine is still sufficient, which can meet the needs of each growth period. The overall configuration of agricultural meteorological resources is coordinated, which is suitable for the planting of the two. Spring maize-spring potato intercropping can make the most of land, time and space, improve light and heat utilization, reduce pests and diseases, and increase output per unit area, thereby maximizing economic benefits.

Abstract

Sulfidation has been considered as a primary detoxification process for metal and metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs). Copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuSNPs) are deemed relatively non-toxic to aquatic wildlife due to their low solubility in water. However, dissolution of CuSNPs in water with hypochlorite, a common disinfectant used for wastewater treatment, may potentiate risks to aquatic life and humans. We therefore measured the effect of hypochlorite disinfection on the chemical stability of CuSNPs and assessed the aggravated toxicity of CuSNPs viahypochlorite-induced NP dissolution. Our results revealed that the chemical stability of CuSNPs was reduced through hypochlorite oxidation. Subsequently, the dissolved copper became more bioavailable in zebrafish embryos. Zebrafish embryos were not impacted by CuSNPs at an environmental-related level, while the mixture exposure of CuSNPs and hypochlorite induced significant developmental toxicity in early staged zebrafish. The aggravated toxicity of the mixture of CuSNPs and hypochlorite in zebrafish embryos through induction of oxidative stress and membrane damage was confirmed by both metabolomics and in vivoexperiments. Our findings demonstrate that CuSNPs may have aggravated toxicity to aquatic organisms through hypochlorite-induced NP dissolution and highlight that the impact of the transformation of NPs in the water treatment process should be considered when studying nanotoxicology.
