154. Influence of thermal growth of Au nanoparticles in the coupling efficiency of Au/SiO2 nanocomposite grating coupler.

Abstract

The Au/SiO2 nanocomposite grating coupler with a period of 600 nm was fabricated by implantation of 140 keV Au ions at a fluence of 6 × 1016 ions·cm−2 in combination with subsequent electron-beam lithography and ion beam etching. The thermal evolution of Au nanoparticles and its influence on the vertical coupling efficiency of the prepared grating coupler has been investigated in detail. The results clearly show that the coupling efficiency of the nanocomposite grating coupler could be affected by the thermal evolution of Au nanoparticles, which increases in the annealing temperature range up to 800 °C, and then decreases at 900 °C and above. Theoretical calculation demonstrates that the change of the coupling efficiency should be closely related to the synergistic effect of the scattering effect and the variation in the volume fraction of Au nanoparticles due to the thermal growth. Abstract

The microstructure and corrosion behavior of a high‐strength Al–Zn–Mg–Cu–Mn alloy friction stir welded (FSWed) joint were investigated using scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, open‐circuit potential test, and potentiodynamic polarization. The weld nugget zone and heat‐affected zone (HAZ) of the FSWed joint showed diverse microstructural characteristics including micron‐scale intermetallic particles and nanoscale precipitates, leading to different localized corrosion sensitivities. The results of electrochemical tests confirmed the regional difference of corrosion in FSWed joints. Detailed research on the corrosion process revealed that micron‐scale Al(Fe,Mn,Si) particles promoted the dissolution of the vicinal matrix to induce pitting corrosion. The directionally distributed intermetallic particles and grain boundary precipitates in HAZ conduced to the development of intergranular microcracks into exfoliation. The matrix precipitates affected the localized corrosion tendency due to regional variation of the redissolution degree. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Purpose To investigate the optimal starting time point of sorafenib therapy in suppressing the tumor-promoting effects of VEGF up-regulation, which is frequently found after local therapy in clinical practice. Methods VEGF was intravenously injected to imitate the evaluated expression after local tumor therapy, such as TACE. A total of 40 SD rats bearing hepatic tumors were randomly divided into four groups and sorafenib was administered at different timepoints: (A) control group: VEGF injection only; (B) initiating sorafenib 72 h prior to VEGF injection; (C) initiating sorafenib simultaneously with VEGF injection; (D) initiating sorafenib 72 h post-VEGF injection. The rate of tumor growth, median survival time, expression of VEGF, and microvessel density (MVD), as determined by immunohistochemical (IHC) examination, were compared. Abstract

Volume Bragg grating with 96% diffraction efficiency (DE) was efficiently formed by holographic photopolymerization in blend syrup of photocurable trimethylolpropane triacrylate monomer and nematic liquid crystal. The formation dynamics of the composite gratings was quantitatively characterized under the frame of one-dimensional reaction-diffusion model with a revision of individual decay constants for monomer diffusion and reaction. Initial parameters of diffusion and reaction were analytically determined from the measured first order DE at the beginning stage. Abstract

A method of visualizing a paraelectric Mn:KNTN crystal and measuring its Kerr electrooptic coefficient by digital holographic interferometry is presented. Digital holograms of the crystal with different voltages are recorded; a series of sequential phase maps of the KNTN crystal is numerically reconstructed from the holograms in different states to visualize the refractive index distribution. The spatial distribution of the induced refractive index change can be obtained by subtracting the phase of different voltages, and the effective electrooptic coefficient is calculated by means of the refractive index change. We obtain the Kerr coefficient of the Mn:KNTN crystal with R11 = 11.260 ×10-16 m2/V2 and R12 = -1.351 ×10-16 m2/V2 near its phase-transition temperature, and the research results show that the method presented in this paper is successful and feasible.

Abstract

Load mitigation is one of the most important control objectives in the wind turbine control. Generally, an individual pitch control (IPC) could be used to solve this problem. However, due to an accurate wind turbine model which is essential is hardly obtained, it's hard to design an IPC method in both the classical and the modern control. In this paper, a new IPC algorithm is proposed by using a radial basis function (REF) neutral network with online training. Simulation results from GH-Bladed show that proposed control algorithm can mitigate the loads effectively. The algorithm provide a practical reference for the design of wind turbine controller.

Abstract

The 3-dimensional couple equations of magneto-electro-elastic structures are derived under Hamiltonian system based on the Hamilton principle. The problem of single sort of variables is converted into the problem of double sorts of variables, and the Hamilton canonical equations are established. The 3-dimensional problem of magneto-electro-elastic structure which is investigated in Euclidean space commonly is converted into symplectic system. At the same time the Lagrange system is converted into Hamiltonian system. As an example, the dynamic characteristics of the simply supported functionally graded magneto-electro-elastic material (FGMM) plate and pipe are investigated. Finally, the problem is solved by symplectic algorithm. The results show that the physical quantities of displacement, electric potential and magnetic potential etc. change continuously at the interfaces between layers under the transverse pressure while some other physical quantities such as the stress, electric and magnetic displacement are not continuous. The dynamic stiffness is increased by the piezoelectric effect while decreased by the piezomagnetic effect.

Abstract

By combining different plasmonic nanostructures with conventional sensing configurations, chemical/biosensors with significantly enhanced device performance can be achieved. The fast development of plasmon-assisted devices benefits from the advance of nanofabrication technology. In this review, we first briefly show the experimental configurations for testing plasmon enhanced sensing signals and then summarize the classic nanogeometries which are extensively used in sensing applications. By design, dramatic increment of optical signals can be obtained and further applied to gas, refractive index and liquid sensing.
