The demand for digital technologies has been growing due to a shift in the technological and economic paradigm. The need for online services has increased since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. There are significant disparities between Russian regions in the digital technology accessibility and the development of computer skills. In 2020, the Internet diffused rapidly in most regions, although previously, there had been a slowdown. As markets got saturated with digital services, the digital divide between Russian regions narrowed. Overall, the Internet use patterns are consistent with those of the spatial diffusion of innovations. Amongst the leaders, there are regions home to the largest agglomerations and northern territories of Russia, whereas those having a high proportion of rural population lag behind. Coastal and border regions (St. Petersburg, the Kaliningrad region, Karelia, Primorsky Krai, etc.) have better access to the Internet due to their proximity to the centres of technological innovations as well as the high intensity of external relations. Leading regions have an impact on their neighbours through spatial diffusion. Econometrically, access to the Internet depends on income, the average age and level of education, and its use depends on the business climate and Internet accessibility factors. Regional markets are gradually getting more saturated with digital services and technologies. The difference between regions in terms of access to the Internet is twofold, whereas, in terms of digital technology use, the gap is manifold. In many regions, the share of online commerce, which became the driver of economic development during the lockdown, is minimal. Based on the results of the study, several recommendations have been formulated.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the employee lifecycle management (ELM) sphere, leading to the adoption of new human resource (HR) technologies and policies. This study investigates the impact of megatrends, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and innovation on ELM and human resource management (HRM) policies in China, Russia, and Indonesia. Data were collected through structured interviews and publicly available information from companies in these countries between 2021 and 2022. The study evaluates the effects of artificial intelligence (AI), digital transformation (DT), and innovations on the sustainable development of ELM and identifies differences in technological responses to ELM in companies depending on their level of digital maturity. The results show that the majority of companies have continued the process of ELM digital transformation, but the percentage varies based on the scope of activity, labor, and readiness of the country to implement new technologies. The study reveals that large companies in each analyzed country with over 10,000 employees have a greater need and opportunity to implement HR digital transformation, whereas small companies with up to 100 people can operate without automation. In addition, the findings of this study provide propositions for designing how AI and innovations contribute to ELM. This article contributes to the current debate in the literature by substantiating the positive impact of AI, digital technology, and innovation on ELM and HRM strategies, offering practical applications for companies to improve productivity. Overall, this study highlights the importance of adopting innovative HR technologies in response to global challenges and workplace trends.

Meromictic lakes usually harbour certain prevailing anoxygenic phototrophic bacteria in their anoxic zone, such as the purple sulfur bacterium (PSB) Thiocapsa sp. LSW (hereafter LSW) in Lake Shunet, Siberia. PSBs have been suggested to play a vital role in carbon, nitrogen and sulfur cycling at the oxic–anoxic interface of stratified lakes; however, the ecological significance of PSBs in the lake remains poorly understood. In this study, we explored the potential ecological role of LSW using a deep-sequencing analysis of single-cell genomics associated with flow cytometry. An approximately 2.7 Mb draft genome was obtained based on the co-assembly of five single-cell genomes. LSW might grow photolithoautotrophically and could play putative roles not only as a carbon fixer and diazotroph, but also as a sulfate reducer/oxidizer in the lake. This study provides insights into the potential ecological role of Thiocapsa sp. in meromictic lakes.

The problem of combating forest fires is very relevant to this day. The development of machines designed to extinguish and prevent uncontrolled forest fires, especially in waterless areas, is the most important area of scientific research. The article presents scientific research on simulation modeling of the interaction of a soil-marking drum with obstacles of two types: stones and logging residues. For the study, a simulation method was used in the 3D-CAD environment of the SolidWorks Simulation system, which made it possible to conduct a virtual experiment of a solid model and determine the behavior under static and dynamic loads that occur in emergency situations. The purpose of the work was to develop a 3D model of a soil-throwing drum machine for extinguishing and preventing forest fires to conduct simulation studies on a virtual stand to determine the dynamic loads in contact with obstacles of the soil-throwing drum blades based on the created solid model. For the process of studying the soil-marking drum when encountering obstacles in the form of logging residues and stony inclusions, an imitation virtual stand was created. The paper presents the results of the analysis of data obtained on the basis of simulation modeling.

In recent years, meroterpenoids have found wide biomedical application due to their synthetic availability, low toxicity, and biocompatibility. However, these compounds are not used in targeted drug delivery systems due to their high affinity for cell membranes, both healthy and in cancer cells. Using the approach of creating supramolecular amphiphiles, we have developed self-assembling systems based on water-soluble pillar[5]arene and synthetic meroterpenoids containing geraniol, myrtenol, farnesol, and phytol fragments. The resulting systems can be used as universal drug delivery systems. It was shown by turbidimetry that the obtained pillar[5]arene/synthetic meroterpenoid systems do not interact with the model cell membrane at pH = 7.4, but the associates are destroyed at pH = 4.1. In this case, the synthetic meroterpenoid is incorporated into the lipid bilayer of the model membrane. The characteristics of supramolecular self-assembly, association constants and stoichiometry of the most stable pillar[5]arene/synthetic meroterpenoid complexes were established by UV-vis spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). It was shown that supramolecular amphiphiles based on pillar[5]arene/synthetic meroterpenoid systems form monodisperse associates in a wide range of concentrations. The inclusion of the antitumor drug 5-fluoro-2′-deoxyuridine (floxuridine) into the structure of the supramolecular associate was demonstrated by DLS, 19F, 2D DOSY NMR spectroscopy.

Turkish lakes Van and its satellite Erchek are located in a climate-sensitive area between the seas Black, Caspian and Mediterranean at the intersection of the atmospheric South-West flow and the Northern branch of the subtropical high-pressure belt. It is shown that the sediments of the adjacent lakes Van and Erchek at a distance of 20 km from each other, synchronously reacted to regional changes in the environment. This work contains high-resolution geochemical data on bottom sediments, which allowed converting them into time series of paleotemperature and lake level fluctuations on an annual-decadal scale. Physical and chemical conditions in model equilibrium systems (solid phase + water + gas) in the real range of external hydro-climatic factors were estimated based on the mineral composition of lake sediments of clay-carbonate type. To create a timescale, we used visual calculations of annual rhythms, as well as seasonal fluctuations in the content of elements. The time series of elements were synchronized with recent changes in weather conditions and with fluctuations in lake levels. So geochemical series calibrated on hydro-meteorological data were transformed by multiple regression approach into numerical reconstructions of natural parameters on a time scale. As a result, quantitative reconstructions of regional temperature were calculated: for Lake Van 1300 and Erchek - 840 years ago, as well as Van level 840 yrs.

Interference studies were carried out, and interference with vanadium and molybdenum was detected. The method of standard additions and traditional calibration curve method were used. Calibration and standard addition curves were fitted with linear and polynomial functions. It was shown that using polynomial function gives better results for the standard additions method for determination of bismuth by acetylene/air flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The calibration curve method was shown to be correct at low (< 10 mg/L) concentration of an interferent. Dynamics of abscisic acid (ABA) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) contents were followed in developing barley caryopses of the ABA-deficient mutant AZ34 and its parental cultivar Steptoe. Distribution of these hormones and HvPIP2 aquaporins (AQPs) was studied with the help of immunohistochemical methods in the roots and coleorhiza of developing embryos. In Steptoe, maturation of the caryopsis was accompanied by vast accumulation of ABA, while this hormone accumulated more slowly in the caryopsis of AZ34 and its content was lower than in Steptoe. Accumulation of ABA was accompanied by a decline in IAA level in the developing caryopsis, the process being delayed in AZ34 in accordance with the slower accumulation of ABA. ABA accumulated to high levels in the coleorhiza cells of Steptoe, while the effect was absent in AZ34. The high level of ABA was likely to be important for maintaining the barrier function of the coleorhiza, preventing germination of seminal roots and enabling seed dormancy, while the absence of ABA accumulation in coleorhiza of AZ34 may be responsible for the initiation of root germination inside the caryopsis. The abundance of HvPIP2 AQPs in the seminal roots was higher at the beginning of maturation of Steptoe caryopsis and declined afterwards, while the levels of APQs increased later in AZ34 in accordance with the delay in ABA accumulation. These results suggest the importance of ABA accumulation in coleorhiza for preventing precocious growth of seminal roots, and suggest regulation of IAA and aquaporin levels by this hormone during maturation of embryos.

Background: Adamantane derivatives possess multiple pharmacological activities such as antiviral, anticancer, antimycobacterial, antidiabetic, antiparkinsonian and others. The interest of medicinal chemists in adamantane compounds is due to their unique spatial structure, high lipophilicity, and carbon cage rigidity. As a result, these molecules can easily penetrate biological lipid membranes and often have unique target-specific activity profile. Another pharmacophore studied in this work is pyridoxine (vitamin B6). Pyridoxine plays highly important roles in living cells as a key cofactor of many enzymes. On the other hand, its molecular scaffold is a valuable structural platform which has led to the development of several launched drugs (Pyritinol, Pirisudanol, Cycletanine, Mangafodipir) and a wide number of preclinical and clinical drug candidates. Objective: The objective of this study is a synthesis of pyridoxine-adamantane and pyridoxinecyclooctane dipharmacophore molecules. The underlying idea was to assess the antibacterial and antiviral potential of such dipharmacophores, based on multiple examples of promising antiinfective agents which have in their structures adamantane and pyridoxine moieties. Another specific reason was to explore the ability of pyridoxine pharmacophore to suppress the potential of microbial pathogens to develop resistance to drug molecules. Methods: In this study, a series of pyridoxine-adamantane and pyridoxine-cyclooctane dipharmacophore molecules were synthesized based on reactions of three different cycloalkyl amines with the corresponding electrophilic derivatives of pyridoxine aldehydes, chlorides and acetates. All synthesized compounds have been tested for their in vitro activity against M. tuberculosis H37Rv strain and H3N2 (A/Aichi/2/68) influenza virus. Results: Series of pyridoxine-adamantane and pyridoxine-cyclooctane dipharmacophore molecules were synthesized based on reactions of three different cycloalkylamines with the corresponding electrophilic derivatives of pyridoxine aldehydes, chlorides and acetates. Reaction of cycloalkylamines with pyridoxine derivatives, in which meta-hydroxyl and ortho-hydroxymethyl groups are protected by acetyl groups, represents a useful alternative to reductive amination of aldehydes and nucleophilic substitution of alkyl halides. According to a tentative mechanism, it proceeds via paraand ortho-pyridinone methides which readily react with nucleophiles. None of the synthesized dipharmacophore compounds showed activity against M. tuberculosis H37Rv strain. At the same time, three compounds demonstrated some antiviral activity against H3N2 (A/Aichi/2/68) influenza virus (EC50 52-88 µg/mL) that was comparable to the activity of Amantadine, though lower than the activity of Rimantadine. The results of this work can be useful in the design of physiologically active derivatives of pyridoxine and adamantane. Conclusion: The results of this work can be useful in the design of physiologically active derivatives of pyridoxine and adamantane.

Background. Congenital radial club hand (CRCH) is characterized by longitudinal underdevelopment of the forearm and hand on the radial surface. Underdevelopment can range from hypoplasia to aplasia of the radius. More than 50 methods to correct the forearm deformities, depending on the degree of radius underdevelopment, have been proposed. Aim. We evaluated the results of CRCH treatment using microsurgical technique and external fixation. Methods. We analyzed 16 patients (age, 4.6 0.9 years) with CRCH type II, according to the classification of Bayne and Klug, treated between 1994 and 2017. The patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 were patients undergoing microsurgical autotransplants of the epimetaphyseal second metatarsal bone with growth plate to the position of the radius defect and group 2 were patients treated by lengthening of the radius with external fixation. We analyzed the types of deformities, size of the radius defects, and range of motion in upper limb joints before the stage of the lengthening. External fixation index and number of complications also were determined. The type and number of recurrent deformities and timing of their detection were analyzed. Results. The observation period ranged from 12 months to 10 years (average, 3.8 years). In group 1, good results were obtained in 62.5% of cases. After transplantation of the metatarsal bone growth plate, the work of the growth plate continued, characterized by increasing radius length in the later observation period. In group 2, good results were obtained in 50% of cases. Clinical and X-ray examinations showed recurrent hand deviation and radius shortening, which required repeated radius lengthening. Conclusion. Microsurgical transplantation of the second metatarsal bone with growth plate is accepted more in reconstruction of the radial bone in patients with CRCH type II due to creation of a growth zone in the distal part of the radius. Radius lengthening via external fixation is applicable while maintaining the distal epimetaphysis and normal transverse dimensions of the radial bone.

The article discusses the resource potential of Russian federal districts involved in processes of modernization. The theoretical framework draws from Russian and international studies of economic potential, stability and efficiency in regional development and regional imbalances. Methodologically, the research relies on a series of relative indicators of innovation, which can be used to measure federal districts’ modernization potential by applying methods of mathematical statistics. The proposed set of criteria allows us to take into consideration both the current situation and the dynamics of innovation development in Russian regions. The selected indicators characterize the returns from innovation investment in socio-economic systems, the degree of regional differentiation within districts and trends of regional development regarding the efficiency of innovation processes. The proposed approach can be used to measure the efficiency of human capital use. To test the above-described methodology, we decided to focus on the Central Federal District, which has a significant resource potential necessary to meet the demands of intensive modernization. Statistical comparison of the actual and limit values has revealed significant underused resources in this district. These resources can be accessed by stimulating the lagging regions. The described methods and results of this study can be used by research organizations, higher education institutions, regional authorities and policy-makers in the process of preparation, adjustment and monitoring of strategic programs of socio-economic development. В статье рассматривается ресурсный потенциал федеральных округов России, вовлеченных в процессы модернизации. Теоретическая основа статьи построена на российских и международных исследованиях экономического потенциала, региональных дисбалансов, стабильности и эффективности регионального. Методологически исследование опирается на ряд относительных показателей инноваций, которые можно использовать для измерения модернизационного потенциала федеральных округов путем применения методов математической статистики. Предложенный набор критериев позволяет учитывать как текущую ситуацию, так и динамику инновационного развития в российских регионах. Выбранные показатели характеризуют отдачу от инновационных инвестиций в социально-экономические системы, степень региональной дифференциации по районам и тенденции регионального развития в отношении эффективности инновационных процессов. Предложенный подход может быть использован для измерения эффективности использования человеческого капитала. Чтобы проверить вышеописанную методологию, мы решили сосредоточиться на Центральном федеральном округе, который обладает значительным ресурсным потенциалом, необходимым для удовлетворения потребностей интенсивной модернизации. Статистическое сравнение фактических и предельных значений выявило значительные недоиспользованные ресурсы в этом районе. К этим ресурсам можно получить доступ, стимулируя отстающие области. Описанные методы и результаты данного исследования могут быть использованы исследовательскими организациями, высшими учебными заведениями, региональными органами власти и политиками в процессе подготовки, корректировки и мониторинга стратегических программ социально-экономического развития.

Tin (Sn) is a metal that is commonly used in our daily life. With the rapid development of lithium-ion battery in the past decades, Sn and its alloy, such as Sn-Cu[1], and Sn-Ni[2], Sn-Co[3] and Sn-Fe[4] have been used as anode for lithium-ion battery because they can undergo alloying/dealloying process with lithium ions and exhibit high capacity and suitable working voltage of about 0.4 V vs. Li/Li+. Sn can also undergo an oxidation reaction to Sn2+, with an electrode potential of about -0.14 V vs. SHE. It is therefore possible to also use Sn as a cathode material. Herein, we are first to demonstrate a metal-metal battery made up of Sn metal as the cathode and Li metal as the anode in organic electrolyte (see Fig. a). Sn foil and Li foil are simply assembled with 3M LiTFSI in dimethoxyethane/propylene carbonate (DME/PC) electrolyte in an Ar-filled glove box to form a pouch cell. During charging, Sn will give out two electrons and dissolves into the electrolyte as Sn2+, while during discharging, the metal ions will be re-deposited onto the cathode. Thus, the energy is stored in the form of Sn2+ in the electrolyte. The charge-discharge curves in Fig. b show that the operating voltage of the battery is about 2.8 V. Since Sn2+ that is dissolved into the electrolyte from the cathode has higher potential than the Li metal anode, any Sn2+ ions cross-over to the anode will be spontaneously reduced, decreasing the efficiency of the battery. To suppress such self-discharge process, an anion exchange membrane based on poly(ionic liquid) polymer coated on common polypropylene separator is adopted. The Sn-Li battery with the modified separator tested in a current rate of 0.2 mA cm-2 with a capacity limitation of 0.1 mAh cm-2 gives an average Coulombic efficiency about 99.5% and can be cycled for more than 1500 cycles(See Fig. c). We found that the stripping/deposition of Sn on the cathode, and its polarization depend strongly on the type of electrolyte used. With 3M LiTFSI in DME/PC electrolyte, the discharge voltage is lowered by about 0.05 V when the current density is increased from 0.2 mA cm-2 to 1 mA cm-2. Most of Earth’s bacteria have yet to be cultivated. The metabolic and functional potentials of these uncultivated microorganisms thus remain mysterious, and the metagenome-assembled genome (MAG) approach is the most robust method for uncovering these potentials. However, MAGs discovered by conventional metagenomic assembly and binning are usually highly fragmented genomes with heterogeneous sequence contamination. In this study, we combined Illumina and Nanopore data to develop a new workflow to reconstruct 233 MAGs—six novel bacterial orders, 20 families, 66 genera, and 154 species—from Lake Shunet, a secluded meromictic lake in Siberia. With our workflow, the average N50 of reconstructed MAGs greatly increased 10–40-fold compared to when the conventional Illumina assembly and binning method were used. More importantly, six complete MAGs were recovered from our datasets. The recovery of 154 novel species MAGs from a rarely explored lake greatly expands the current bacterial genome encyclopedia., Chen and colleagues develop a workflow for assembling high quality metagenome-associated genomes for microbial species using long and short reads, in this case from a meromictic lake. A full, detailed workflow is provided in for use by the community.

The synthesis of new phenothiazine derivatives, analogs of Methylene Blue, is of particular interest in the design of new drugs, as well as in the development of a new generation of agents for photodynamic therapy. In this study, two new derivatives of phenothiazine, i.e., 3,7-bis(4-aminophenylamino)phenothiazin-5-ium chloride dihydrochloride (PTZ1) and 3,7-bis(4-sulfophenylamino)phenothiazin-5-ium chloride (PTZ2), are synthesized for the first time and characterized by NMR, IR spectroscopy, HRMS and elemental analysis. The interaction of the obtained compounds PTZ1 and PTZ2 with salmon sperm DNA is investigated. It is shown by UV-Vis spectroscopy and DFT calculations that substituents in arylamine fragments play a crucial role in dimer formation and interaction with DNA. In the case of PTZ1, two amine groups promote H-aggregate formation and DNA interactions through groove binding and intercalation. In the case of PTZ2, sulfanilic acid fragments prevent any dimer formation and DNA binding due to electrostatic repulsion. DNA interaction mechanisms are studied and confirmed by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy in comparison with Methylene Blue. The obtained results open significant opportunities for the development of new drugs and photodynamic agents.

For the first time, a series of catechol-containing Schiff bases, tetrasubstituted at the lower rim thiacalix[4]arene derivatives in three stereoisomeric forms, cone, partial cone, and 1,3-alternate, were synthesized. The structure of the obtained compounds was proved by modern physical methods, such as NMR, IR spectroscopy, and HRMS. Selective recognition (Kb difference by three orders of magnitude) of copper (II) cation in the series of d-metal cations (Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+) was shown by UV-vis spectroscopy. Copper (II) ions are coordinated at the nitrogen atom of the imine group and the nearest oxygen atom of the catechol fragment in the thiacalixarene derivatives. High thermal stable organic-inorganic copper-based materials were obtained on the base of 1,3-alternate + Cu (II) complexes.

SiO2,MgO-codoped Al2O3−Ce:YAG composite ceramics with different Ce3+ doping concentrations (0.05-0.3 at%) have been fabricated via reactive vacuum sintering, for the purpose of high power white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). Optical and luminescence characteristics of color converters were investigated by transmittance spectra and photoluminescence examinations. It is found that WLEDs based on synthesized phosphors with 0.05-0.1 at% Ce3+ doping have an optimal balance between high color-rendering index, luminous efficacy and appropriate correlated color temperature values.

In this article, the authors analyze the secondary literature on the topic to review the key factors of modern competition and provide insights for Russian industrial enterprises. The paper critically examines the key document of Russian federal policies on increasing the competitiveness of industry from a methodological point of view. The authors determine the key methodological shortcomings and propose an aggregated index for assessing the level of industry competitiveness. The authors argue that a set of target indicators could analyze the state of competitiveness of an industry more accurately, capturing any specific industry a researcher wants to focus on. Thus, the proposed index allows for a systematic view on the current state and development trends to be formed regarding the competitiveness of Russian industry.

The living standards in any country largely depend on how developed is this country’s business sector. The latter, in its turn, relies on the availability and efficient use of resources. The problem that arises in this respect and that this study seeks to address is how to measure the resource potential available for the development of small businesses in order to choose the optimal strategy of stimulating this sector for this or that region. Research objective. The aim of this research is to study resources available to small businesses and their use in Russian regions. Data and methods. The set of indicators used in our analysis helps us measure the activity of small businesses in Russian federal districts. The key elements of the assessment are based on the official statistics and include the following: average labor productivity of small businesses, the unit turnover per small enterprise, the number of small firms per 10,000 people. Each of these indicators was analyzed by using the methods of mathematical statistics according to the three criteria: stability (S); average values (M); and the variability of the results (V), which characterizes interregional differentiation within a federal district/country. Results. The article proposes a system of indicators for diagnosing small business development based on the concentration and performance of small-sized enterprises. The quantitative results of such analysis can be used for choosing strategies of small business development. Conclusion. There was a significant decline in entrepreneurial activity during the post-crisis period of 2017–2018 in Russia, which could be explained by the impact of foreign sanctions and the difficult economic situation in the country (inflation, a sharp rise in the price of resources, difficulties in communication with international partners, and the difficulty or even impossibility to adopt efficient technologies in a short time). As our analysis has shown, some of the Russian territories still have underutilized resource potential that can be used for stimulating small business development. Актуальность. Уровень жизни в любой стране во многом зависит от того, насколько развит деловой сектор этой страны. Последнее, в свою очередь, зависит от доступности и эффективного использования ресурсов. Проблема, которая возникает в этой связи и которую пытается решить данное исследование, заключается в том, как измерить ресурсный потенциал, доступный для развития малого бизнеса, чтобы выбрать оптимальную стратегию стимулирования этого сектора для того или иного региона. Цель исследования. Целью исследования является изучение ресурсов, доступных малому бизнесу, и их использования в регионах России. Данные и методы. Сформированная в работе серия относительных индикаторов направлена на выявление активности малого бизнеса по федеральным округам страны. Базовыми элементами оценки на основе данных официальной статистики выступают: средняя производительность труда в малом бизнесе, удельный оборот на одно малое предприятие, число малых фирм на 10000 населения. Каждый из указанных индикаторов проанализирован с помощью применения методов математической статистики по 3-м критериям: устойчивости (S); средним значениям (M); вариативности результатов (V), отражающей степень межрегиональной дифференциации в пределах Федерального округа/страны. Результаты. В работе предложена система показателей для диагностики деятельности сектора малого предпринимательства на основе системы показателей «концентрация-эффективность» и их статистических характеристик. Количественные значения полученных результатов служат основой для выбора направлений развития малого бизнеса в конкретной социально-экономической системе. Выводы. В посткризисный период 2017–2018 гг. в России наблюдался значительный спад предпринимательской активности, что можно объяснить влиянием внешних санкций и сложной экономической ситуацией в стране (инфляция, резкое удорожание ресурсов, трудности в общении с международными партнерами, а также сложность или даже невозможность внедрения эффективных технологий в короткие сроки). Как показал проведенный нами анализ, на некоторых территориях России все еще имеется недоиспользованный ресурсный потенциал, который может быть использован для стимулирования развития малого бизнеса.
