Abstract

Based on the data gained from three cruises in frequent Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB)occurrence areas in East China Sea during March and June, 2005, surface distributions of nutrient structures were analyzed. Results showed that in the prophase of diatom bloom, DIN/P and Si/P both showed descending trend from inshore to offshore area, but DIN/Si has a uniform distribution;When diatom bloom decayed and dinoflagellate bloom flourished, DIN/P, DIN/Si and Si/P showed a high level area in 28-30oN. When dinoflagellate bloom decayed, DIN/P and Si/P showed an increasing trend from south to north,but DIN/Si showed decreasing trend from inshore to offshore area.Another result showed that lower DIN/P or higher concentration of PO4-P were propitious to the growth of diatom, while higher DIN/P or lower concentration of DIN were propitious to the growth of dinoflagellate. Lower DIN/Si or higher concentration of SiO3-Si will help diatom to gain an advantage over dinoflagellate in growth.

Abstract

This paper deals with the synchronization of fractional-order chaotic systems with unknown parameters and unknown disturbances. An adaptive control scheme combined with fractional-order update laws is proposed. The asymptotic stability of the error system is proved in the sense of generalized Mittag–Leffler stability. The two fractional-order chaotic systems can be synchronized in the presence of model uncertainties and additive disturbances. Finally these new developments are illustrated in examples and numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract

We theoretically study the properties of a dielectric plate with a modified Hong—Ou—Mandel interferometer. The fourth-order correlation functions are calculated in two regimes, which are divided depending on the relative size between the thickness of the dielectric plate and the one-photon coherence length. When the thickness of the dielectric plate is less than the one-photon coherence length, a novel modulation behavior of the coincidence rate is observed, which has not been discussed before. If the thickness of the dielectric plate is larger than the one-photon coherence length, coalescence and anti-coalescence are observed. The obtained results highlight the effects of a linear optical element on fourth-order interference.

We experimentally observe the counterintuitive absorption peaks in the transition spectra of 5S1/2−5P3/2−4D5/2 and 5S1/2−5P3/2−4D3/2 in a hot 85Rb vapor. These spectra are very different from the spectra observed via double resonance optical pumping or electromagnetically induced transparency in the same transitions. These absorption peaks are from electromagnetically induced absorption due to the two-photon atomic coherence effect. We also investigate the relations between these peaks and the powers of the coupling laser and the probe laser experimentally.

199. Cavity-enhanced bright photon pairs at telecom wavelengths with a triple-resonance configuration

Abstract

We report on the generation of a bright photon source at telecom wavelengths using spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a type II periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate crystal. Simultaneous resonances of the pump and the two down-converted fields are achieved with a properly designed optical cavity. This triple-resonance optical parametric oscillator operates far below threshold, generating photon pairs at 1560 nm wavelength with a bandwidth of 8 MHz. Time correlation measurements produce an estimate of 27.7 ns for the coherence time, and production rate of 134±25  s^−1 MHz^−1 mW^−1 for photon pairs. As photon pairs in the telecom regime are suitable for long-distance transmission, this source may find application in quantum communications.
