A growing number of studies investigate the relative importance of the major deservingness criteria (control, attitude, reciprocity, identity, need) in explaining the perceived welfare deservingness of different social groups. This paper addresses the roles of those criteria in predicting the perceived deservingness of a rarely examined group, single mothers. We conducted a survey in Hungary and compare the responses to direct questions about deservingness to the results of a vignette-based survey experiment in which the deservingness criteria were translated to characteristics of hypothetical mothers. Our results show that in the absence of deservingness cues (direct questions), respondents relied on the attitude, reciprocity/control, identity (measured by traditional family values), and need criteria to the same extent. On the other hand, in the presence of specific deservingness cues (vignette experiment), people disregarded their family values and stereotypes, and the perceived need became the strongest predictor of single mothers' deservingness. These results support the existence of the deservingness heuristic, however, compared to previous literature that emphasized the role of perceived control and reciprocity of recipients, in the case of single mothers, the deservingness heuristic seems to direct people's attention to the perception of need. In the article, based on the analysis of scientific literature and the results of pedagogical studies, the problem of the formation of family values in preschool children is updated. It is noted that the main goal of national preschool education is to create favorable conditions for the personal development and creative self-realization of each child, the formation of his life competence, the development of a valuable attitude towards himself, family, people, nature, culture, and the world. It is emphasized that the family, in cooperation with preschool education institutions, has significant opportunities in forming the concept of a meaningful "family image" in preschoolers, the ways of parents' implementation of the tasks of raising family values in children are presented. It is proven that the formation of family values in preschool children can be effective only if certain pedagogical conditions are observed, which are considered as a system of existing forms, methods, situations or material circumstances that have developed or subjectively created to achieve a specific pedagogical goal. For a more detailed explanation of the problem, the authors present the results of an experimental study conducted on the basis of preschool education institution № 46 «Bzhilka» (Bee) in Poltava. Factors were determined that made it possible to objectively assess the level of formation of family values among preschoolers, to compare the results before and after educational activities, and to draw conclusions as to how successful the formation of family values was in children of the age group. The course and results of the pedagogical experiment are revealed. The effectiveness of the use of the program for the formation of family values in preschool children has been proven. Drawing on signaling theory, we explore the signaling effect of family firm status on firm value in the acquisition context as well as important contingencies influencing the signal's effectiveness. Based on a sample of 486 observations of acquisitions in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain from 2011 to 2019, our empirical results suggest that acquirers purchase family firms at a higher firm value than non-family firms. This relationship is moderated by the target firm's financial performance (i.e., high vs. low) and listing status (i.e., private vs. public) prior to an acquisition, as well as the type of acquirer (i.e., financial vs. non-financial) and the acquirer's geographic location (i.e., cross-border vs. domestic). Our study's findings suggest that family firm value is driven not only by the characteristics of the family firms that become acquired but also by the characteristics of the acquirers as they influence the effectiveness of the family firm signal. LITERATURE reviews ,FAMILY roles ,FAMILY values ,SOCIAL contract ,WELL-being - Abstract
Polycrisis reality has introduced a novel context for examining the evolving values and daily functioning of individuals and families. By juxtaposing the visions of a good life and values of two family generations, the article investigates what young Poles and their parents consider to be important in their lives. The article begins with a literature review dedicated to intergenerational transmission of values and conceptual framings of "good life." Drawing on data from 70 interviews (involving 35 family dyads) conducted in 2021, the empirical analysis focuses on five primary categories that emerged from the participants' narratives regarding "good life" and values, namely: health, self-identity, family and friends, material and financial well-being, and the social contract. The article contributes to identifying the degree of intergenerational similarities and differences, as well as the crucial role of family in transmitting values and shaping visions of a good life. Paternal incarceration can destabilize families due to the disruption and stress that follow. For mothers, maintaining a relationship with incarcerated fathers from home while raising a child can be incredibly difficult. What keeps a relationship from dissolving after a father is incarcerated is not well understood. This study used family stress theory to identify the family capabilities and meanings associated with increased odds of relationship continuity among a sample of 116 families with incarcerated fathers. The findings revealed that families stayed intact when mothers reported a history of paternal incarceration and a positive relationship with the father prior to incarceration. This study shows the value of family meanings over family capabilities in overcoming the risks of relationship dissolution associated with paternal incarceration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MARRIAGE ,GENDER inequality ,FAMILY values ,COMPARATIVE studies ,REVOLUTIONS ,LIVING conditions - Abstract
The article analyzes the history of studying the problem of Kazakh women's equality in the framework of changes in society during the formation of Soviet Kazakhstan. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that the study of the transformation of the status of women in the Soviet period allows us to assess the situation in modern Kazakhstan, determine strategies and tactics aimed at implementing the gender policy determined by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The policy of the Soviet Union led to a change in the position and status of women in Kazakhstan, as well as the institution of marriage and family, which subsequently affected the emergence of the problem of the loss of traditional family values. In the course of the analysis of the studies, it was found that when studying the living conditions of the Kazakh people, as a result of Soviet policy, scientists left out sighting the problem of the work of Kazakh women. As a result of the conclusions obtained, the history of the study of the acute women's issue, which began to rise in society after the October Revolution, was divided into several stages and a comparative analysis was carried out. FAMILY values ,ACCULTURATION ,FAMILIES ,MARRIAGE ,LOCAL culture - Abstract
Islam is meant to be universal, with the ability to transform local cultures and traditions according to its own values. The goal in family life in Islam is to create a happy and prosperous family through the realisation of a sakinah (tranquil) household. This article critically evaluates the acculturation of Islamic family values with the local traditions of the Bengkulu community. The analysis in this article reveals that the relationship between Bengkulu people's traditions and Islamic family values are difficult to separate. The assimilation between Islam and the local culture and traditions gave birth to the acculturation of Bengkulu culture. This acculturation covers almost the entire structure of the Bengkulu community, including family life, starting from attitudes, behaviours, and customs that have been coloured with Islamic values. The process has occurred peacefully and respectfully without friction between the two. The construction of Bengkulu community's acculturated tradition in realising a sakinah family covers all aspects of family life, i.e., pre-marriage, in marriage, and after marriage. A total labeling ξ is defined to be an edge irregular total absolute difference k-labeling of the graph G if for every two different edges e and f of G there is wt(e) 6= wt(f) where weight of an edge e = xy is defined as wt(e) = |ξ(e) − ξ(x) − ξ(y)|. The minimum k for which the graph G has an edge irregular total absolute difference labeling is called the total absolute difference edge irregularity strength of the graph G, tades(G). In this paper, we determine the total absolute difference edge irregularity strength of the precise values for some families of graphs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article examines the problems that young families face today on the basis of the theoretical analysis and analysis of empirical data. The relevance of the scientific research is due, firstly, to demographic processes associated, among other things, with a high level of divorces, and secondly, the crisis of the traditional form of a family, the transformation of the system of spiritual and social values, the formation of attitudes towards egocentrism and consumerism. The purpose of the research to identify and characterize the problems of a modern young family. The object of the research is a young family, the subject is the problems of a modern young family.During the study, the method of questionnaire [n=120] and expert survey has been used. Experts from the Orlovsky Crisis Center in the city of Orel (10 people) acted as experts. The study has showed that some of the problems faced by a modern young family are objective, others are objective-subjective.The authors have identified four groups of problems of a young family: the first group consists of problems conditioned by financial situation of a family, the second - problems of a communicative nature, the third - socio-psychological problems and the fourth - problems associated with the personal characteristics of young spouses. The authors note that spiritual and moral education, which includes the formation of family values, is a basic condition for preserving not only a young family, but also the family as a social institution.

Polygamy as a form of family and marital relations, corresponding to Muslim ethics, not only becomes widespread in Dagestan society, but also causes conflicting assessments in the mass consciousness of the inhabitants of the Republic. These assessments have a pronounced gender connotation. In the mass consciousness of the female part of the Dagestan society, this phenomenon is more identified as a negative phenomenon, in contrast to that of the male part of the population. In this regard, the article aims to identify the factors that give rise to polygamous strategies in the family and marital behavior of Dagestan men, as well as various evaluative positions of such marital behavior on the part of the Dagestan population. In this perspective, the practice of polygamy in Dagestan has not yet been the subject of scientific analysis, which determines the innovative nature of the results obtained in the course of the author's empirical study. Based on the results of the author's sociological survey conducted in 2021, a key conclusion was made that a man's right to polygamous marital behavior, actualized in the context of the religious (Muslim) revival in the Dagestan society, diverges from traditional ideas about the family and marital relations among Dagestan women. They, for the most part, regardless of the degree of religiosity, show a negative attitude towards the practice of polygamy. The reason for such an imbalance in attitudes towards polygamy in Dagestan is the nature of this revived family and marital practice, inadequate to modern realities, which has lost its functional content, motivational grounds and behavioral ethics.

Background: To determine and understand the factors influencing the willingness to become an organ donor among students of two different academic categories. Methodology: This cross-sectional study involved 100 undergraduate students of two different (50 from MBBS and 50 from information science) courses with a mean age of 22 years. Faculty validated, customized, and close-ended (5-point Likert scale) questionnaire was distributed to the randomly selected participants of both groups. The responses given by them were then analyzed statistically using the SPSS software version 16. Results: Factors that are considered in this study included knowledge, attitude, religious/family values, and perception. Both groups showed no significant differences in knowledge and religious/family values, agreeing that organ donation is a generous act. Significant differences were noted in the attitude level of the students unwilling to donate while alive (P = 0.026), more willing to donate organs after death (P = 0.011), and fear of surgical procedures and disfiguration of the body (P = 0.035). Regarding perception, 80% of nonmedical students were aware that viable organs could be donated upon brain death of an individual and 52% of medical students agreed that after joining the MBBS course, they have become more willing to donate organs. Conclusion: Both groups of students have adequate knowledge of organ donation without the influence of religion or family issues; however, certain attitudes and perceptions indicate that medical students are more likely to be willing candidates for organ donation.

Main goal of the text is a feminist critical analysis of anti-gender discourses in 843 media texts published in Serbia, in the period from January 1, 2019 to October 31, 2022. The media base that includes the largest part of the mainstream media on the territory of Serbia was selected. The analysis was done on a targeted sample by searching for several key terms, characteristic of anti-gender discourses: "gender ideology", "family values" and "traditional values". The research showed that the discourse of the anti-gender movement in Serbia corresponds to the discursive framework and wider action of the international anti-gender movement, confronting feminism, the action of LGBTIQ+ movement and, in general, progressive movements. As in the case of the international anti-gender movement, relying on an essentialist and biological understanding of gender and sexuality and insisting on a traditionalist family structure, based on gender asymmetry and social hierarchies, is part of a broader rejection of ideas and practices of social and human equality. Only in this context it becomes more clear why ideas about the social conditioning of gender and the fluidity of human identities, as well as the equality of different manifestations of sexuality are considered so subversive.

Youth extremism continues to be relevant considering the fluid and changeable character of the contemporary world: new risk factors emerge while social institutions designed to provide social stability malfunction. The article aims at presenting the family attitudes among the youth which are connected to the problem of infantilism (social-psychological maturity), the attitude towards non-traditional gender relations, to the infidelity in romantic relationships, and how the media and TV series may contribute to an increased risk of extremism among the younger generations. The article is based on the data from six original studies on the above-mentioned issues conducted at the RUDN University in 2017-2019 with different sociological methods (questionnaire survey, focus groups and content analysis): a 2017 survey of RUDN students titled “Personal freedom through the eyes of young people” (N = 470); content analysis of four episodes of four Russian TV series in 2017; validation results for the method “Diagnostics of social immaturity in young people” (N = 500); four focus groups on the “Transformation of the contemporary social image of the Russian woman” in 2019; two focus groups with female students on the “Infidelity in romantic relationships” in 2021, and a 2021 survey of Moscow university students on extremism. The broad scope of topics covered in the study in the frame of up-to-date relevant research allowed for several findings which clarified the aspects that should be stressed when implementing the youth and family policy: the conscious parenting training for young families, systematic monitoring of social immaturity of young people in family and everyday life, restoration of the educational system to its former esteem as a counter to the present service sector. Some gradual changes can already be observed in the clear policy on same-sex relationships and attention to the media content at the government level.

Abstract Background Mental health issues are still stigmatized in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), possibly due to cultural reasons. This implies that some mental health conditions (most notably depression and anxiety) are not properly treated, due to resistance to seek help. It is therefore important to assess attitudes towards mental health in the UAE and their possible association with other variables. Results In this study with 201 participants, attitudes towards mental health were assessed. Results came out showing no association with gender, nationality, age, or emirate of residency. A correlation was found with traditional family values, and in turn, this adherence varied across genders, with males having higher levels. Conclusions Mental health issues in the United Arab Emirates are still stigmatized, although some improvement is evident. Given that stronger values predict more negative attitudes towards mental health problem, it is recommended authorities in the United Arab Emirates attempt some cultural progressive reforms in order to remove the stigma from mental health problems.

The following article is a stylistic analysis of N.V.M. Gonzalez's epistolary short story, The Happiest Boy in the World. Content analysis, specifically documentary analysis, was employed to identify stylistic features embedded in select passages from the text that highlights the character's stream of consciousness. The researcher closely analyzed excerpts from the text under the lens of stream-of-consciousness theory, noting how the narrator expressed his thinking process on the letter he was crafting in the story. In other words, the theory and narrative technique of stream of consciousness was explored in the literary piece of N.V.M. Gonzalez to reveal how the character in the story perceived and processed the reality of poverty that he and his family were experiencing, peeked through the painstakingly written letter to the main character's landlord. Furthermore, the analysis of the stream of consciousness of the main character's son in the story was also explored and analyzed to define the concept of happiness against the backdrop of a typical Filipino rural farmer's family culture and values. Finally, integration and implications to English language learning and literature teaching were made in light of the existing scholarship and findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Let M be a set of positive integers. We study the maximal density μ(M) of the sets of nonnegative integers S whose elements do not differ by an element in M. In 1973, Cantor and Gordon established a formula for μ(M) for |M| ≤ 2. Since then, many researchers have worked upon the problem and found several partial results in the case |M| ≥ 3, including some results in the case when M is an infinite set. In this paper, we study the maximal density problem for the families M = {a, a+1, 2a+1, n} and M = {a, a+1, 2a+1, 3a+1, n}, where a and n are positive integers and n is sufficiently large. In most of the cases, we find bounds for the parameter kappa, denoted by κ(M), which actually serves as a lower bound for μ(M). The parameter κ(M) has already got its importance due to its rich connection with problems such as the "lonely runner conjecture" in Diophantine approximation and coloring parameters such as "circular coloring" and "fractional coloring" in graph theory. We also give some partial results for the general family M = {a, a +1, 2a + 1,..., (s – 2)a + 1, n}, where s ≥ 5 and mention related problems in the remaining cases for future work. We examine how family-ownership influences takeover probability and takeover public announcement abnormal return of Indian publicly traded firms between 2003 and 2019. We find that family ownership has a significantly negative effect on target takeover probability at various levels of family ownership, viz. 20%, 40%, and 51%. Announcement period abnormal returns for target firms are positive at a lower level of family ownership of 20% and negative at a higher level of family ownership of 51%. These results are consistent with the agency cost explanation where family ownership reduces owner-manager agency conflict but exacerbates conflict between majority and minority shareholders. Our results hold for Heckman two-stage model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

How family firms innovate has captivated scholars for over a decade. However, an investigation into the benefits of research and development (R&D) for family firm value under differing economic conditions has received little attention in the family firm innovation or R&D literature. This study examines the relationship between R&D intensity and firm value among listed family firms during the economic recession period of 2007–2010 and nonrecessionary periods (referred to as normal periods) in the US between 1995 and 2013. Based on behavioral agency theory, we evaluate the moderating effects of investments in inward‐looking and outward‐looking corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives on this relationship. We hypothesize that R&D intensity is negatively related to family firm value during a recession period, but outward‐looking CSR positively moderates the relationship between the two. The opposite is hypothesized during normal periods. The results support the assertions that outward‐looking CSR can ease the negative impact brought about by R&D intensity on firm value during a recession period, while inward‐looking CSR investments surprisingly bear no effects. Important implications for research, family firm leaders, and R&D managers are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Species of the Magnoliaceae family are valued for their ornamental qualities and are widely used in landscaping worldwide. However, many of these species are endangered in their natural environments, often due to being overshadowed by overstory canopies. The molecular mechanisms of Magnolia's sensitivity to shade have remained hitherto obscure. Our study sheds light on this conundrum by identifying critical genes involved in governing the plant's response to a light deficiency (LD) environment. In response to LD stress, Magnolia sinostellata leaves were endowed with a drastic dwindling in chlorophyll content, which was concomitant to the downregulation of the chlorophyll biosynthesis pathway and upregulation in the chlorophyll degradation pathway. The STAY-GREEN (MsSGR) gene was one of the most up-regulated genes, which was specifically localized in chloroplasts, and its overexpression in Arabidopsis and tobacco accelerated chlorophyll degradation. Sequence analysis of the MsSGR promoter revealed that it contains multiple phytohormone-responsive and light-responsive cis-acting elements and was activated by LD stress. A yeast two-hybrid analysis resulted in the identification of 24 proteins that putatively interact with MsSGR, among which eight were chloroplast-localized proteins that were significantly responsive to LD. Our findings demonstrate that light deficiency increases the expression of MsSGR, which in turn regulates chlorophyll degradation and interacts with multiple proteins to form a molecular cascade. Overall, our work has uncovered the mechanism by which MsSGR mediates chlorophyll degradation under LD stress conditions, providing insight into the molecular interactions network of MsSGR and contributing to a theoretical framework for understanding the endangerment of wild Magnoliaceae species. In keeping with this premise, Unicef (2018) announced that the sustainable development of the planet requires counting on families; it pointed them out as essential collaborators of governments for the quality of life of future generations. Considered a natural and elemental unit of all modern societies and an educational agent of the first order for the development and psychosocial adjustment of its members, the family is also a primary socialization agent (Fontana-Abad, Gil y Reyero, 2013). It plays a key role in the internalization of prosocial values, such as self-transcendence (care and universalism) and conservation (conformity, safety, and tradition); values closely related to pro-environmental behaviors (Barrera-Hernández, Sotelo, Echeverría y Tapia, 2020). Following this line, this research studies the perceptions that adolescents have about family values, parental support for autonomy, and environmental care practices, according to the 3R rule, in a triple perspective: reduce, reuse, and recycle. It uses a quantitative, descriptive, and relational methodology. The target population was high school adolescents from the city of Cuenca (Ecuador). The sample was made up of 122 adolescents which attended three schools: one private educational unit (36.1 %) and two public (27.9 % and 36.1 %). Of the respondents, 38.8 % were female and 61.2 % were male, and they all were between 15 and 19 years old (M = 16.4; SD = 1.2); 27 % were in their first year of high school (15-17 years), 44.3 % were in their second year of high school (16-18 years) and the 28.7 % were in their third year (17-19 years). Data analysis includes comparison of means, Pearson's r correlation coefficient and simple linear regression. The results indicate that a high percentage of the adolescents in the study carry out at least one of the following environmental care actions (these are organized from highest to lowest frequency): saving water and electricity consumption, using garbage cans, reusing bottles, separating garbage, and participating in actions in favor of environment. Likewise, it is detected that they perceive family as a driving agent for their development as autonomous subjects, and a promising factor for the process of integration of values and the development of competencies for caring for the environment; however, they still recognize the school as the place where their commitment to a sustainable future is most intensely forged. Additionally, the adolescents in the study perceive a high parental support for their autonomy and, likewise, that mothers attach greater importance to the value of helping others, a central axis in the ethics of care that characterizes the paradigm of sustainability. This research corroborated, once again, the ONU's (2015) position when it indicates that the family is a main agent of change for sustainability, with a decisive influence on the preservation of life and ecosystems. It endorses the relevance of promoting educational strategies that promote family-school relations in order to enhance the role of the former in the acquisition of pro-environmental values and, ultimately, its collaboration in the quality of formal education aimed at sustainability. With these results, a path is opened to improve the knowledge on the parental role in relation to the promotion of behaviors of environmental care (pro-sustainability), within the framework of adolescents' and young people's formal education. Purpose: In Switzerland, about one in three children is born by caesarean section (CS). For many women, this means a restricted birth experience, limited observation of the birth process and a restricted involvement. We evaluated an extended gentle CS protocol, which offered early intraoperative skin-to-skin contact and the possibility of observing the delivery of the baby from the abdomen through a transparent drape. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study incorporating data from a purposely tailored questionnaire and clinical routine data. The extended gentle CS protocol was compared with the gentle CS, which does not allow the possibility of observing the delivery. Data were collected online and analysed by multivariable regression for quantitative data and content analysis for all text responses to open questions, respectively. Results: 193 women completed the questionnaire. Of these, 154 had a gentle CS and 39 had an extended gentle CS. Multivariable regression did not reveal a statistically significant difference for extended gentle CS with regard to satisfaction with childbirth, mother-to-child bonding, or breastfeeding duration. Nevertheless, early intraoperative skin-to-skin contact was associated with the fulfilment of birth expectations. Furthermore, most women who experienced an extended gentle CS would prefer the same procedure for any potential future CS. Conclusions: Although our study showed no statistically significant difference in satisfaction from using a transparent drape, most women expressed a preference for this technique. We recommend that the option of an extended gentle CS should be offered to all women for whom CS is indicated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Society's demographic development holds great importance for all social processes: economy, education, science, culture, and others. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the various factors influencing the formation of demographic trends and understand their significance. This paper considers a range of sources influencing the formation of young people's attitudes toward family values, namely: the immediate environment, mass media, media content, literature, social surveys, social advertising, and propaganda, as well as bloggers as a modern element of media communications that has a fairly large influence on the young audience. The paper analyzes Russia's policy of the demographic problem, which is associated with the currently being implemented Concept of the State Family policy in the Russian Federation until 2025 (The Concept) aimed at strengthening and protecting the family as the fundamental basis of the Russian society. The paper presents the results of mass surveys among the Rostov region youth: (1) on the key points of the Concept the sample included 450 young people aged 20-29 and (2) on the youth's preferences for various types of mass media with a sample of 634 respondents aged 16-25. It was revealed that the core foundations of the family culture are sufficiently established in the Russian Federation with the dominance of the marriage relations as free, voluntary, and equal association of men and women, which is consistent with the state policy of support and development of family values. In this article, we extend the notion of the Laplacian spread to simple directed graphs (digraphs) using the restricted numerical range. First, we provide Laplacian spread values for several families of digraphs. Then, we prove sharp upper bounds on the Laplacian spread for all polygonal and balanced digraphs. In particular, we show that the validity of the Laplacian spread bound for balanced digraphs is equivalent to the Laplacian spread conjecture for simple undirected graphs, which was conjectured in 2011 and proven in 2021. Moreover, we prove an equivalent statement for weighted balanced digraphs with weights between 0 and 1. Finally, we state several open conjectures that are motivated by empirical data. - Abstract
Prolonged incompatibility with a spouse in a marriage will trigger conflicts that can destabilize marital harmony. Before marriage, each prospective partner should identify the personal needs and characteristics of his or her potential mate so that the individual becomes the best version of himself and is fully responsible for fulfilling his needs. This research aims to analyze the effect of family values, adult attachment, and mating intelligence on preferences in mate selection among young adults. The research was conducted in Indonesia with 250 young adults who were selected using a voluntary sampling technique. A series of questionnaires were distributed online using Google Forms, which were shared through social media. Then, the data were analyzed using descriptive tests, independent sample t-tests, correlation tests, and path analysis. Results revealed that secure attachment mediated family values and mating intelligence. Mating intelligence mediated secure attachment and kindness/dependability preferences. Mating intelligence mediated secure attachment and education/intelligence preferences. Mating intelligence had an effect on status/resource preferences. Avoidant attachment affected the preferences of kindness/dependability and religiosity/chastity. Family values affected preferences for kindness/dependability, attractiveness/sexuality, status/resources, education/intelligence, and religiosity/chastity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper undertakes an analysis of publicly posted videos sharing debtors' strategies for responding to overzealous credit collection agencies during the earliest stages of the pandemic lockdown. It examines how Chinese debtors and credit collection callers responded to the uncertainties surrounding the handling of personal debts when the debtors' economic activities are heavily restricted. Both parties invoked different imagined collectivities to establish their own moral justifications with regards to debt obligations, state regulations and family values. The paper argues for a recognition of the capacity of debt to collectivize people through loose discursive formations that remoralize debt, recasting the defaulter status as morally acceptable and reshaping their defaulter identities. The imaginative and discursive space built upon debt's collectivizing potential presents a valuable analytical tool for understanding the social dimensions of debt and the dynamic emerging of financial subjectivities in the contemporary era. Previous studies on individual-level gender ideologies in Russia have produced conflicting results, with some suggesting re-traditionalisation and others noting increasing egalitarianism. This research explores changes in the Russian population's views on gender division of labour between 1994 and 2012, moving beyond unidimensional conceptualisations of gender ideology that juxtapose traditionalism with egalitarianism. The findings evidence highly class-specific gender-ideology trajectories. Only lower classes increased their support for separate spheres. Amongst the more educated and affluent, 're-traditionalisation' instead entailed increased endorsement of both joint breadwinning and gender-essentialist views of women's caring roles at the expense of support for the housewife/male-breadwinner model and for egalitarianism. Values accepted by society have an important role in people's behaviors and thoughts. Children receive education about values from their families, environments or other institutions. The study aims to determine whether the advertisements, which are known to be effective on children, reflect the values specified by theMinistry of National Education and called the ten root values, and which values are highlighted in the reflected advertisements. In line with the purpose of the study, "Are ten root values included in children's advertisements?", "Which values are most processed in children's advertisements?" and "Which discourses or visuals reflect the ten Root Values to be examined?" Three research questions were determined. In the study, purposeful sampling method was used to determine the sample, and content and discourse analysis was used in the analysis of the advertisements. As a result of the study in which four advertisements of the Eti brand were examined; It has been determined that the values of being hardworking, determined, friendship and love are at the forefront in the advertisements examined. The concept of respect is described as respecting nature and peers rather than respecting an older person. In the advertisement, which especially emphasizes the necessity of keeping nature clean, it is emphasized that no one has the right to respect the environment and animals and not to pollute their living spaces. We explain how the spectral curve can be extracted from the W -representation of a matrix model. It emerges from the part of the W -operator, which is linear in time-variables. A possibility of extracting the spectral curve in this way is important because there are models where matrix integrals are not yet available, and still they possess all their important features. We apply this reasoning to the family of WLZZ models and discuss additional peculiarities which appear for the non-negative value of the family parameter n, when the model depends on additional couplings (dual times). In this case, the relation between topological and 1/N expansions is broken. On the other hand, all the WLZZ partition functions are τ-functions of the Toda lattice hierarchy, and these models also celebrate the superintegrability properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There is a growing focus in political science on right-wing populist parties. But few comparative studies address their discourses and politics relating to family values, especially when involved with policy-making. Moreover, many comparative works about populism focus on a single region – often Western and Eastern Europe. This paper adopts a definition of populism with two different dimensions: the vertical (inclusive), which regards elites, and the horizontal (exclusive), which addresses 'foreigners'. The use of family values in political discourse and policy pertains to the two axes of populism. On the one hand are elites who are accused of being uncommitted to traditional values and morally corrupt. On the other hand are demographic concerns regarding declining birth rates among native populations and immigrants with large families. The stress on family values can also originate from a value orientation – or merely a tactical move – engendered by political competition. This paper specifically examines the politics of family values in the context of policies concerning gender equality, family planning and LGBT rights in three countries: Israel, Italy and Turkey. Background. The sirtuins (SIRTs) family is a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) family of dependent deacetylases, which includes SIRT1-7. This family is related to the development and progression of various tumors. However, a comprehensive analysis of the role of SIRTs in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is still lacking, and there are few reports on the inhibitory role of SIRT5 in ccRCC. Methods. We used immunohistochemical analysis, and several bioinformatic databases to perform an integrated analysis of the expression and prognostic value of SIRT5 and other SIRT family members in ccRCC along with the associated immune cell infiltration. These databases include TIMER, THPA, cell culture, UALCAN, cBioPortal, WebGestalt, Metascape, DiseaseMeth, STRING database, and Cytoscape. Results. The protein expression of SIRT1, 2, 3, 6, and 7 were upregulated in ccRCC for the Human Protein Atlas database, whereas the expression of SIRT4 and SIRT5 was decreased. The expression based on tumor stage, and grade followed a similar trend. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that high SIRT4 and SIRT5 expression was positively related to better overall survival (OS), whereas SIRT6 and SIRT7 expression was positively related to worse OS. Further, high SIRT3 expression was related to worse relapse-free survival (RFS), whereas high SIRT5 expression was related to better RFS. To explore the mechanism underlying the function of SIRTs in ccRCC, we also used several databases to perform the functional enrichment analysis and explore the relationship between infiltrating immune cells and seven SIRT family members in ccRCC. The results showed that several SIRT family members, and particularly SIRT5, are correlated with the infiltration of some important immune cells. The protein expression of SIRT5 was significantly lower in tumor tissue compared to normal tissue and was negatively related to the age of the patient ccRCC individual tumor stages, and grades. In human ccRCC samples, strong IHC staining expression of SIRT5 was displayed in adjacent normal tissue than in tumor tissues. Conclusion. SIRT5 may be a prognostic marker and a novel strategy for the treatment of ccRCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we calculate a family of geometric constants for Morrey spaces, small Morrey spaces and discrete Morrey spaces. This family of constants measures uniformly non-squareness of the associated spaces. We obtain that the value this family of constants for the aforementioned spaces is 2

The estimation of Peak Flood Discharge (PFD) for a specific return period is of paramount importance in hydrological studies for the planning, design, and management of civil and hydraulic structures. This research investigates the evaluation of probability distributions through statistical tests, viz., the Chi-Square, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, and D-index. These tests aid in estimating the PFD using the Flood Frequency Analysis (FFA) approach for the Tapi River at Prakasha Barrage. In this analysis, various distributions from the extreme value family such as Extreme Value Type-1, Extreme Value Type-2, Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), and Pareto, were employed in the FFA. The distribution parameters are determined by standard techniques, such as the method of moments, Maximum Likelihood Method (MLM), and the Method of L-Moments (LMO). A qualitative assessment, along with the D-index value, was employed to select the most suitable distribution for the analyzed data. This study demonstrates that among the four distributions adopted in FFA, the GEV (LMO) distribution exhibits the best fit. Furthermore, this research suggests the use of PFDs derived from the GEV (LMO) distribution for design purposes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article focuses on the social differences in the attitudes toward female and male voluntary childlessness in Bulgaria and their dynamics over time. The analysis is based on data from the European Social Survey conducted in 2006 and 2018 in Bulgaria. By the means of multinomial logistic regression, we test the effect of the period, gender, age, marital status, number of children, education, employment, minority status, and religiosity on attitudes toward childlessness. The results reveal a decrease in negative attitudes and a strong increase of neutral stances. However, higher age of respondents is still associated with an increase in negative attitudes toward voluntary childlessness rather than neutrality. Women are significantly more likely to accept voluntary childlessness than to be neutral compared to men. Respondents who are married, parents, lowly educated, jobless or economically inactive, people belonging to ethnic minority groups, and highly religious people are more likely to disapprove of voluntary childlessness. Perceptions on female or male voluntary childlessness are significantly correlated with attitudes toward extramarital fertility, cohabitation, divorces when children are under twelve years old, and full‐time female employment when children are below the age of three. The analysis of variance reveals that the individuals who accept or are neutral to voluntary childlessness have stronger non‐conformist attitudes emphasizing self‐expression, the idea of “having a good time,” and rejection of traditional authorities compared to the respondents with negative attitudes.

Background. In modern society, family values coexist with material values and self-realization values. The position of family values in the general structure of young youths’ values is the most important marker of the state of the family institution. The purpose of the research is to study the youths’ structure of values in Penza region, as well as to determine the place of family values in the general hierarchy. Materials and methods. To study the value orientations of young people, we used the data of the author’s research (Penza region, 2022, n = 616), as well as data from all-Russian sociological surveys and studies in individual regions (Volga, Siberian, Ural, Central districts). Results. Family values occupy a priority position in the value structure of the youth of Penza region, and the values associated with health and material well-being are also important for young people. However, in forming the desired value structure for their children, young people do not choose family values as the most important. Conclusions. Family values are important for the youth of Penza region. At the same time, for transmission to future generations, young people choose values associated primarily with personal physiological, spiritual and material well-being. At the same time, the importance of family and childbearing is recognized, but not a priority for a happy life.

Background: The peroxiredoxin family, a crucial regulator of redox reactions, is strongly associated with various tumorigenesis. However, the role of peroxiredoxin4 (PRDX4) in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) remains poorly understood. Methods: Multicenter databases, including GEPIA, HPA, UALCAN, cBioPortal, cancerSEA, STRING, CCLE, and LinkedOmics, comprehensively analyzed transcriptional expression, prognostic value, genetic alterations, signaling pathways, and associated genes of the PRDXs in COAD patients. Colony formation, transwell, flow cytometry, sphere formation, and xenograft assays were performed to validate further in vitro and in vivo. Results: Members of the PRDX family were differentially expressed in COAD, with each member showing varying degrees of genetic alterations. Intriguingly, only PRDX4 significantly correlated with COAD prognosis and stage. The single-cell sequencing suggested that PRDX4 is positively correlated with proliferation, apoptosis, and invasion, whereas negatively correlated with stemness. Moreover, PRDX4 involved in a series of critical biological processes, such as cell growth. Furthermore, in vivo and in vitro analyses indicated that knocking down PRDX4 inhibits the proliferation and invasion of HCT116 cells while promoting apoptosis and stemness. Conclusions: We identified PRDX4 expression as a novel potential prognostic marker in COAD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

What is, or should be, the role of solidarity within the (transnationally adoptive) family? In Spain, solidaridad is a prized value in family life, political organization, and humanitarian action, yet adoption professionals actively discouraged its use as a motivation for transnational adoption. This article offers a genealogy of the concept of solidaridad, a consideration of its enduring currency in kinship discourse in Spain, and a critical analysis of case studies from our respective research projects. We show that kinship and humanitarianism are considered very differently in terms of their temporalities and entailments—the terms, and specificities, of their engagements. We argue that solidaridad's multivocality within the transnational adoptive family context has broader significance for kinship, both adoptive and nonadoptive, as well as for social and political engagement across inequality. Solidaridad's exclusions from transnational adoption reveal how kinship and humanitarianism both involve the work of identifying, accommodating, and resolving social difference. This article examines cultural responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece during the first wave in spring 2020 approaching such responses not only as resulting from the fear of the virus but also as outcomes of larger historical processes. Analysing media material, surveys and discourses by politicians and health specialists the article argues that although Greece had a limited number of cases, most Greeks embraced the lockdown seeing COVID-19 as a threat. The government's communication strategy highlighted popular values such as family and downplayed the class dimensions of the pandemic. This strategy proved effective and increased the popularity of the government and health experts at that stage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores how family intimacy and traditional values interplay in the return of rural interprovincial migrants in the Philippines, in response to entreaties made by family members. Specifically, it looks at how Filipino behavioural patterns for social acceptance underlie interprovincial migrants' decision to return. Jacqui Gabb's concept of family intimacy and Virginia Miralao's discourse on Filipino family and traditional values provide a theoretical framework to further understand the complexities of family practices and interprovincial migration in the country. Ethnographic narratives and observations were collected to highlight family intimacy and the cultural foundation of 'pa-uli na' entreaties. By unravelling the different forms of entreaties and patterns of the decision to return, this article conceptualizes family as an affective space of intimacy that constitutes the socio-cultural context for the analysis. This article explores the online construction of masculinity and fatherhood in contemporary Greece. Through a digital observation of five celebrities' Instagram activities that identified with the image of family man and affectionate father, the article argues that self-representations of affluent and involved masculinity and fatherhood represent a popular media trend. The article analyzes such self-representations as the outcome of historical transformations in gender and family politics, economy, and media that go back to the 1980s, the 1990s and the 2000s. It also argues that the acceptance of such imagery by wide audiences demonstrates the persistence of the male archetype of breadwinner, the value of the family, and the nostalgic survival of elements of earlier prosperous consumer aesthetics throughout the Greek economic crisis of the 2010s.
