Kontinuierlich steigende Energiekosten, bedingt durch die Endlichkeit fossiler Brennstoffe sowie die durch den Gesetzgeber immer weiter verschärften Grenzwerte für die Emission von CO2, setzen die Automobilindustrie zunehmend unter Druck, dieser Problematik durch die Erforschung und Umsetzung neuer Technologien im Antriebsbereich entgegenzuwirken. Anhand zahlreicher Veröffentlichungen ist ein klarer Trend hin zur Entwicklung rekuperativer Technologien zu erkennen. Neben bekannten Verfahren rückt dabei allmählich die thermische Rekuperation in den Vordergrund, um auch die über das Abgas und Kühlwasser abgeführte Abwärme im Fahrzeug nutzbar zu machen. Als „Bottoming Cycle“ in stationären Anlagen ist der Clausius-Rankine-Prozess bereits Stand der Technik zur Umwandlung von Wärme in technische Arbeit. Die nahezu exponentiell ansteigende Zahl an Veröffentlichungen zum Einsatz des Organic-Rankine-Cycle (ORC) deutet darauf hin, dass diese Technologie einen vielversprechenden Ansatz zur Reduktion des Kraftstoffverbrauchs und Schadstoffausstoßes im Pkw darstellt. Insbesondere durch die Miniaturisierung des ORC sowie unter den transienten Betriebsbedingungen im Pkw und unter Berücksichtigung der zur Zertifizierung relevanten Bedingungen ergeben sich hierdurch Restriktionen, die die Effizienz solcher Systeme mindern. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll anhand theoretischer und experimenteller Analysen von Komponenten zur Effizienzsteigerung ihren Beitrag zur Verbesserung der Wirkungsgrade leisten. Den zentralen Teil stellt dabei die Untersuchung der Komponenten Ejektor, Innerer Wärmetauscher (IWT) und Füllstandkompensationseinheit (FKE) sowie deren Einfluss auf das Druckverhältnis und das Kaltstartverhalten des Systems dar. Das Druckverhältnis als integraler Parameter im ORC nimmt direkten Einfluss auf die erzielbare Leistung und unterliegt im transienten Fahrbetrieb starken Schwankungen. Um die Möglichkeiten der Einflussnahme zu untersuchen, steht zu Beginn der Aufbau eines Versuchsfahrzeugs als Träger eines ORC-Systems zur thermischen Rekuperation der Abgasenthalpie. Hinzu kommt eine theoretische und experimentelle Studie zu Ejektoren und deren Einsatzmöglichkeit zur Wirkungsgradsteigerung des Systems über die zusätzliche Wärmeaufnahme aus dem Kühlwasser. Basierend auf den Erkenntnissen experimenteller Versuchsdurchführungen am Prototypenträger und nach Vermessung des „Basis-Systems“ erfolgt die schrittweise Erweiterung um eine FKE und einen IWT.

BACKGROUND: Echocardiographic determination of ejection fraction (EF) by manual tracing of endocardial borders is time consuming and operator dependent, whereas visual assessment is inherently subjective. OBJECTIVES: This study tested the hypothesis that a novel, fully automated software using machine learning-enabled image analysis will provide rapid, reproducible measurements of left ventricular volumes and EF, as well as average biplane longitudinal strain (LS). METHODS: For a total of 255 patients in sinus rhythm, apical 4- and 2-chamber views were collected from 4 centers that assessed EF using both visual estimation and manual tracing (biplane Simpson's method). In addition, datasets were saved in a centralized database, and machine learning-enabled software (AutoLV, TomTec-Arena 1.2, TomTec Imaging Systems, Unterschleissheim, Germany) was applied for fully automated EF and LS measurements. A reference center reanalyzed all datasets (by visual estimation and manual tracking), along with manual LS determinations. RESULTS: AutoLV measurements were feasible in 98% of studies, and the average analysis time was 8 ± 1 s/patient. Interclass correlation coefficients and Bland-Altman analysis revealed good agreements among automated EF, local center manual tracking, and reference center manual tracking, but not for visual EF assessments. Similarly, automated and manual LS measurements obtained at the reference center showed good agreement. Intraobserver variability was higher for visual EF than for manual EF or manual LS, whereas interobserver variability was higher for both visual and manual EF, but not different for LS. Automated EF and LS had no variability. CONCLUSIONS: Fully automated analysis of echocardiography images provides rapid and reproducible assessment of left ventricular EF and LS.

During the course of a peripheral bronchial carcinoma with pulmonary and cerebral metastases a femoral abscess developed in a 49 year-old patient after radio- and chemotherapy. A bacterial strain, which was isolated four times from a deep wound of the left thigh was tentatively identified as a member of the genus Nocardia on the basis of selected phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics. The isolate was confirmed to belong to Nocardia abscessus by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. This species had previously been described as the causative agent of soft tissue infections. Although rare, nocardia soft tissue infections as complication of systemic nocardiosis are typical air born infections of immuncompromised patients and need specific attention. The pursuit of miniaturization in technology has created a wide interest in functional nanostructures at metal-vacuum and metal-liquid interfaces making it one of the hot topics in modern surface science. Widely utilized and promising methods to achieve such a functionalization are the growth of organic molecular assemblies on metal surfaces and the manipulation of atomic structures via the tip of a scanning-tunneling microscope. Alkanedithiol molecules have adopted the role of model systems for the bonding of organic molecules on Au surfaces via two sulfur anchors and the formation of self-assembled monolayers. So far, however, little is known about the details of adsorption geometries and diffusion mechanisms of dithiol molecules on Au surfaces, especially in the presence of two S-Au bonds to the substrate surface. In this work density-functional theory (DFT) calculations have been employed to investigate the adsorption and diffusion characteristics of an archetypical dithiol-metal model-system: 1,4-butanedithiol molecules [BDT: HS-(CH_2)_4-SH], and 1,4-butanedithiol radicals [BDTR: S-(CH_2)_4-S] adsorbed on the unreconstructed Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces. It has been found that dissociation of BDT into H_2 in the gas phase and chemisorbed BDTR on the unreconstructed Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces is preferred over BDT adsorption for energetic and entropic reasons. BDTR forms two strong S-Au bonds, interconnected through an alkane chain, with the Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces. DFT calculations for low total-energy chemisorption geometries have revealed that the interplay between internal degrees of freedom and two S-Au bonds leads to a complicated multivalley potential-energy surface (PES). Local total-energy minima within a few 100 meV of the ground state chemisorption geometry suggest that BDTR/Au diffusion characteristics should be more multifaceted than the diffusion of adatoms or simple molecules with only a single bond to the substrate surface. Diffusion properties of BDTR/Au(100) have been studied by explicitly integrating a master equation for elementary BDTR diffusion hops between neighboring local total-energy minima on the PES. Notably, translational motion of BDTR occurs at a faster rate compared to rotations on the surface. This suggests that subsequent diffusion hops occur back and forth along the same direction on short time scales. If the diffusion of BDTR/Au can be monitored with sufficient temporal resolution, such correlated motion should be accessible to experiments. On longer time scales the numerical diffusion constant obeys an Arrhenius law. Similar diffusion characteristics are also suggested to occur for BDTR/Au(111). Diffusion experiments on electrode surfaces in an electrochemical cell offer the unique feature of varying the electric field present at the solid-liquid interface through an applied external potential. A significant influence of an electric field on the PES has been discovered for BDTR on Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces within an approximative approach. It is suggested that this might render BDTR diffusion properties tunable to a certain degree via an applied external potential in an electrochemical cell. In particular, the diffusivity of BDTR/Au(111) has been estimated to decrease significantly at more positive applied potentials, which is in qualitative agreement with preliminary experimental results by Suto and Magnussen. Beyond BDTR/Au diffusion, this work contains results from collaborations with the group of R. Berndt related to the unoccupied electronic structure of Ag adatoms and clusters on the Ag(111) surface and the group of O.M. Magnussen related to the reversal of c(2x2) Cl/Cu(100) subsurface buckling in an electrochemical environment. Die fortschreitende Miniaturisierung von elektronischen Bauelementen hat zu einem breiten Forschungsinteresse an funktionalisierten Nanostrukturen an Metall-Vakuum sowie Metall-Flüssigkeits Grenzflächen geführt. Diese Bereiche bilden aktuelle Forschungsschwerpunkte der modernen Oberflächenwissenschaften. In diesem Zusammenhang betrachtet man die Adsorption von Dithiolmolekülen auf Goldoberflächen häufig als ein Modellsystem für die Adsorption von organischen Molekülen und Selbstorganisation auf Festkörperoberflächen. Jedoch ist wenig über die Adsorptionsgeometrien und Diffusionseigenschaften dieser Spezies bekannt. Dies gilt vor allem für Strukturen in denen Dithiolmoleküle über zwei S-Au Bindungen an das Substrat gebunden sind. In dieser Arbeit sind Gesamtenergierechnungen mittels Dichtefunktionaltheorie (DFT) für ein charakteristisches Dithiol-Metall Modellsystem durchgeführt worden: Adsorption und Diffusion von 1,4-Butandithol Molekülen [BDT: HS-(CH_2)_4-SH] und Radikalen [BDTR: S-(CH_2)_4-S] auf unrekonstruierten Au(111) und Au(100) Oberflächen. Ein Vergleich der Adsorption von BDT und BDTR im Gleichgewicht hat ergeben, daß BDT auf beiden Oberflächen aus energetischen und entropischen Gründen in gasförmiges H_2 und chemisorbiertes BDTR dissoziiert. Hierbei ist BDTR durch zwei starke S-Au Bindungen, welche über die Alkankette miteinander gekoppelt sind, auf der Oberfläche chemisorbiert. Das Zusammenspiel beider S-Au Bindungen mit den internen Freiheitsgraden des BDTR führt zu einer komplizierten Gesamtenergiefläche mit vielen lokalen Minima innerhalb von wenigen 100 meV oberhalb des Grundzustandes. Dieser Umstand ist bereits ein Indiz dafür, dass die Diffusion in dem vorliegenden Fall eine deutlich komplexere Dynamik zeigen sollte als die Diffusion von Adatomen und einfachen Molekülen auf Metalloberflächen. Die Diffusion von BDTR/Au(100) wurde durch direkte Integration einer Mastergleichung für elementare Hüpfprozesse zwischen benachbarten lokalen Minima der Gesamtenergiefläche studiert. Insbesondere hat sich gezeigt, daß Translationen entlang ausgezeichneter Richtungen auf der Oberfläche eine niedrigere Diffusionsbarriere als Rotationen besitzen. Aufeinanderfolgende Hüpfprozesse sollten demnach entlang bevorzugter Richtungen erfolgen, was zu einer korrelierten Dynamik auf kurzen Zeitskalen führt. Falls diese Zeitskalen experimentell zugänglich sind, sollte sich diese Korrelation beobachten lassen. Auf längeren Zeitskalen folgt die numerisch bestimmte Diffusionskonstante für BDTR/Au(100) einem Arrheniusgesetz. Die DFT Resultate für die Diffusion von BDTR/Au(111) legen eine ähnliche Charakterisierung der Dynamik nahe. Ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal von Diffusionsexperimenten unter elektrochemischen Bedingungen ergibt sich aus der Möglichkeit, ein elektrisches Feld an der Festkörper-Flüssigkeits Grenzfläche durch eine äußere Spannung zu verändern. Modellrechnungen für BDTR/Au ergeben einen signifikanten Einfluss des elektrischen Feldes auf die Diffusion, wodurch die BDTR Dynamik in gewissen Grenzen extern beeinflussbar wird. Es lässt sich abschätzen, daß die BDTR/Au(111) Diffusion um so langsamer sein sollte, je positiver die angelegte Spannung ist. Dies ist konsistent mit vorläufigen Experimenten von Suto und Magnussen. Über die BDTR/Au Diffusion hinaus enthält diese Arbeit Ergebnisse aus einer Kooperation mit der Gruppe von R. Berndt für die unbesetzte elektronische Struktur von Ag Adatomen und Clustern auf der Ag(111) Oberfläche und aus einer Kooperation mit der der Gruppe von O.M. Magnussen für die geometrische Struktur von c(2x2) Cl/Cu(100) an der Festkörper-Flüssigkeits Grenzfläche unter elektrochemischen Bedingungen.

One form of knowledge that has been proven to be important for companies’ perfor-mance during the recent financial crisis is the understanding of the financial data and information.The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how three Swedish companies – Sto Scandi-navia AB, Swedbank and Axfood SSC – communicate internal financial information to their middle managers. As well as how the companies use knowledge management to leverage their financial communication internally.The study presents an integrated framework of information management and knowledge management based on the works of the leading and often quoted re-searchers in those fields.This study uses 12 semi structured interviews to gather qualitative data about how nine middle managers and three top managers view the communication of financial in-formation at their companies. The interviews were complimented with closed question surveys handed to the nine middle managers.Our analysis concludes that the three companies differ significantly in their approach to communicating financial information. Swedbank uses a wide range of financial in-formation in their daily operations. Further, they have an organized and structured ap-proach to communicating and managing their financial information.Sto and Axfood (SSC) do not use financial information to the same extent in their oper-ations. Additionally they communicate the information in an informal and unstruc-tured way. Although using a less structured approach, the managers at Axfood were more satisfied with how the company uses financial information then the other com-panies. This could be due to the lesser importance given to financial information at SSC compared to Swedbank.We found Sto to be at the verging point from turning from a small company to large company and thus needs to review their current strategy, which has previously been based on the ability of the managers to receive information through informal paths.
