Neste artigo tem-se por objetivo apresentar alguns resultados de uma investigação realizada em torno da temática da escrita reflexiva, que teve como uma de suas intencionalidades analisar escritas reflexivas de futuros professores de Matemática. Foram analisadas escritas reflexivas de estudantes da Licenciatura em Matemática da Universidade Estadual de Londrina, produzidas no 1º bimestre de 2019 e relacionadas a um trabalho em torno das Operações Aritméticas. Por meio desta investigação, foi possível identificar alguns aspectos que podem contribuir para o processo de formação docente: expressão de sentimentos, estabelecimento de relações entre o que já se tinha conhecimento e o que aprendeu, planejamento de estratégias diferentes após reflexão sobre determinada situação.

Abstract Marek’s disease (MD) is a major disease of chickens induced by Marek’s disease virus (MDV) associated to lethal lymphomas. Current MD vaccines protect against lymphomas, but fail to prevent infection and shedding. The control of MDV shedding is crucial in order to eradicate this highly contagious virus. Like pathogenic MDV, MD vaccines infect the feather follicles of the skin before being shed into the environment. MD vaccines constitute excellent models to study virus interaction with feathers, the unique excretion source of these viruses. Herein we studied the viral persistence in feathers of a MD vaccine, the recombinant turkey herpesvirus (rHVT-ND). We report that most of the birds showed a persistent HVT infection of feathers over 41 weeks with moderate viral loads. Interestingly, 20% of the birds were identified as low HVT producers, among which six birds cleared the infection. Indeed, after week 14–26, these birds named controllers had undetectable HVT DNA in their feathers through week 41. All vaccinated birds developed antibodies to NDV, which lasted until week 41 in 95% of the birds, including the controllers. No correlation was found between HVT loads in feathers and NDV antibody titers over time. Interestingly, no HVT DNA was detected in the spleens of four controllers. This is the first description of chickens that durably cleared MD vaccine infection of feathers suggesting that control of Mardivirus shedding is achievable by the host.

Background: Seronegative autoimmune hepatitis in children is a rare but potentially severe disease, sometimes requiring liver transplantation. This type of hepatitis may be associated with various immunological and hematological disorders, ranging from isolated lymphopenia to aplastic anemia. Precise pathophysiological mechanisms are still unknown, but the role of viruses cannot be excluded, either as directly pathogenic or as triggers, responsible for an inappropriate immune stimulation. Having the impression of an increasing number of seronegative autoimmune hepatitis since the beginning of SARSCoV-2 pandemia period, we hypothesized that SARS-CoV-2 virus could be an infectious trigger. Methods: We conducted a retrospective, observational, descriptive study about children with seronegative autoimmune hepatitis, in a tertiary care center, between 2010 and 2022. Results: Thirty-two patients were included. The overall incidence of seronegative autoimmune hepatitis increased 3.3-fold in 2020-2022, during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemia period (16 patients in 2.8 years) compared with 2010-2019 the pre pandemia period (16 patients in 9 years). Patients' clinical and biochemical liver characteristics did not differ between the two periods. Hematological damages were less severe during the pandemia period. Immunological studies revealed a dysregulated immune response. The initiation of immunosuppressive therapy (corticosteroids ± cyclosporine) was earlier during the pandemia period than before. Conclusion: In cases of undetermined acute hepatitis, an immune-mediated origin should be considered, prompting a liver biopsy. If the histological aspect points to an immune origin, immunosuppressive treatment should be instituted even though autoimmune hepatitis antibodies are negative. Close hematological monitoring must be performed in all cases. The 3.3-fold increase of cases during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemia will need to be further analyzed to better understand the underlying immunological mechanisms, and to prove its potential involvement. Background: Physical literacy is a concept used to describe the combined physical, affective and cognitive capacities facilitating an active lifestyle. Physical activity participation is essential for children living with chronic medical conditions, but knowledge of physical literacy among this group is scarce. Methods: An explanatory, sequential mixed methods design was used to comprehensively describe the physical literacies of children with chronic medical conditions (CMCs). Participants were recruited from paediatric cardiology, respirology/cystic fibrosis, neurology, haematology and endocrinology outpatient clinics. All participants completed the Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy (2nd Edition), and those with higher and lower scores were invited to a semi‐structured interview. A deductive‐inductive thematic analysis was applied using Margaret Whitehead's conceptualization of physical literacy. Results: Using normative strata, 80.0% of the 99 children assessed (mean age = 9.97 ± 1.3 years, 48% girls) were considered beginning or progressing in their overall physical literacy (mean score = 56.5 ± 13.8/100). Meanwhile, physical literacy informed participants' approach to new, active experiences and may have contributed to a strong sense of self. There was a significant difference between endocrinology and haematology patients on total physical literacy score (p = 0.03) but not domain scores. Participants scored high on motivation/confidence (mean = 22.9 ± 5.0/30) but obtained low physical competence (mean = 11.8 ± 5.6/30) and daily behaviour scores (n = 72, mean = 15.5 ± 7.1/30). Main themes represent salient experiences of children with CMCs within the domains of physical literacy, including their need to evaluate active contexts, self‐regulate activity intensity and manage physical limitations. Conclusions: Children with CMCs can achieve recommended levels of physical literacy without meeting normative standards for physical competence. Participants would benefit from a physical literacy intervention that targets the development of bodily self‐regulation skills and risk evaluation in active settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photometric completeness affects the photometry of stars in crowded regions such as the cores of star clusters. Some analysis such as deriving the structural parameters of star clusters using radial density profile is heavily affected by photometric completeness and the classical techniques to map this completeness in a given field are very expensive computationally. In most surveys, for example, the large quantity of data makes it impracticable to estimate the completeness using the traditional method for the whole sample due to time and computational requirements. In this work, we present a new method that is significantly faster and results in similar completeness curves and maps as the traditional approach, providing a great first-step completeness estimator for a large sample of data. Using the completeness corrected data for each cluster we built radial density profiles improving significantly the inner portion of the profile; we also fitted the King model to them, determining the clusters' structural parameters based on a more realistic cluster profile. In this preliminary analysis, we derived structural parameters for nine selected clusters covering a range of core radii (5–40 arcesc) and tidal radii (40–180 arcesc) and discuss how the photometric completeness affects the determination of these parameters when we count stars to trace the radial profile of a star cluster. Introduction: Keloid is an abnormal proliferation of scar tissue that grows beyond the original margins of the injury. Even after complete resection, recurrences are common and pose a poorly understood challenge in dermatology. There is lack of large prospective clinical trials; thus, treatment recommendations are based on retrospective analyses and small cohort studies. Superficial radiotherapy is recommended in recurrent keloids; however, the successful treatment rates vary greatly. The aim of this study was to evaluate the keloid recurrence rate after post-excision soft X-ray radiotherapy and the associated factors. Methods: We reviewed retrospective data of all patients, treated with adjuvant post-excision soft X-ray radiotherapy with 12 Gy in 6 sessions at the tertiary referral center, Department of Dermatology, University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland, between 2005 and 2018. We analyzed individual keloids as separate cases. Successful treatment was defined as no sign of recurrence within 2 years. Results: Of the 200 identified patients, 90 met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final analysis. In 90 patients, 104 cases of treated keloids were analyzed. Keloids were mainly located on the trunk (49%) and were mostly caused by previous surgery (52.2%). 50% of the keloids did not relapse within 2 years after therapy. A significant factor leading to recurrence was the presence of previous therapy, with prior topical therapies, such as steroid injections or 5-fluorouracil, leading to most relapses. 69.2% of keloid cases who relapsed were pretreated. Soft X-ray radiotherapy was well tolerated, with posttreatment hyperpigmentation noted in 34% of patients, particularly in patients with non-Caucasian origin (61.3%). Conclusion: Treatment of refractory keloids is difficult. Post-excision radiotherapy is an established adjuvant treatment option; nevertheless, recurrence rates are high, especially in pretreated keloids. Prospective studies determining the exact dosage and fraction of post-excisional radiotherapy are needed to determine the optimal radiation parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background/aim Autophagy is a macromolecular degradation process playing a pivotal role in the maintenance of stem-like features and in the morpho-functional remodeling of the tissues undergoing differentiation. In this work we investigated the involvement of autophagy in the osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells originated from human gingiva (HGMSC). METHODS: To promote the osteogenic differentiation of HGMSCs we employed resveratrol, a nutraceutical known to modulate autophagy and cell differentiation, together with osteoblastic inductive factors. Osteoblastic differentiation and autophagy were monitored through western blotting and immunofluorescence staining of specific markers. Results We show that HGMSCs can differentiate into osteoblasts when cultured in the presence of appropriate factors and that resveratrol accelerates this process by up-regulating autophagy. The prolonged incubation with dexamethasone, β-glycerophosphate and ascorbic acid induced the osteogenic differentiation of HGMSCc with increased expression of autophagy markers. Resveratrol (1 μM) alone elicited a less marked osteogenic differentiation yet it greatly induced autophagy and, when added to the osteogenic differentiation factors, it provoked a synergistic effect. Resveratrol and osteogenic inductive factors synergistically induced the AMPK-BECLIN-1 pro-autophagic pathway in differentiating HGMSCs, that was thereafter downregulated in osteoblastic differentiated cells. Pharmacologic inhibition of BECLIN-1-dependent autophagy precluded the osteogenic differentiation of HGMSCs. Conclusions Autophagy modulation is instrumental for osteoblastic differentiation of HGMSCs. The present findings can be translated into the regenerative cell therapy of maxillary / mandibular bone defects. Graphical abstract

Este trabalho apresenta o relato de uma experiência com o ensino do conteúdo matemático Razão através da Resolução de Problemas, trazendo aspectos das fases de planejamento da aula e da regência em sala de aula. A experiência ocorreu no contexto do Estágio Curricular Supervisionado do curso de Licenciatura em Matemática da Universidade Estadual de Londrina, com 15 alunos do 7º ano de uma escola pública da cidade, no ano de 2017. Teve como objetivo introduzir e explorar a ideia de razão e evidenciou que a escolha da abordagem de ensino, através da Resolução de Problemas, foi potencial para que o objetivo fosse atingido. Ainda, oportunizou que os alunos participassem ativamente da aula, e que os estagiários estudassem o conteúdo de maneira aprofundada, estabelecessem relações entre as diferentes estratégias dos estudantes e aprendessem mais sobre a abordagem de ensino e sobre o conteúdo matemático durante todo o processo, desde a elaboração do plano de aula até o momento da regência.

The global agricultural sector needs to implement good soil management practices, in particular to prevent erosion and to improve water-retention capacity. The introduction of tillage techniques along particular theoretical lines, called keylines, can make a significant contribution to improving the management of the soil and agricultural crops. The keyline system has been around for less than 100 years. With this preliminary work, we performed a comparative analysis of two small river basins (less than 100 ha) before and after keyline application, based on GIS computational models (TWI and SIMWE). The calculation models were elaborated starting from a DTM with 2 m resolution, obtained from a LIDAR survey. The comparative analysis, in qualitative terms, showed a positive effect of the keylines, both in terms of erodibility and infiltration of runoff water. The use of GIS models to verify the effectiveness in the planning phase can constitute a decision support system that guides agronomists, technicians, and farmers.

Luxembourg exhibits strong transnational traits within its skills regime, defying any neat fit with existing educational typologies. It is characterised by its high-skill economy, cross-cultural characteristics, and central location within the European Union. As such, Luxembourg has developed a hybrid strategy of responding to labour market challenges, and by that, to skills development. Our institutionalist analysis finds that Luxembourg is involved in transnational skills development in three complementary ways: (a) employers in Luxembourg extensively recruit skilled workers at the European and global levels, but also (b) heavily rely on the distinct skills sets of cross-border commuters from the neighbouring regions of Belgium, France, and Germany (the Greater Region). Furthermore, (c) Luxembourg combines institutional elements of these neighbouring countries--representing distinct models of capitalism and welfare--within its own education system. In combining the specific strengths of different national skills regimes, institutional bricolage represents a core feature of Luxembourg's highly stratified system of skill formation. Our analytical framework refers to two major comparative political economy perspectives, namely the welfare state and varieties of capitalism approaches, to analyse how Luxembourg has responded to deindustrialisation by creating a domestic transnational labour market.

In 2010, a report was released by the United States Government of Accountability Office stating that students with disabilities were not being provided the same opportunities as were their peers [...], With more individuals with disabilities participating in interscholastic activities, it is important that athletic trainers (AT) understand how to best provide services for all athletes. Sixty-six program directors were surveyed using multiple-choice and open-ended questions to determine what course content related to people with disabilities is currently included in their AT preparation curriculum and what their opinions are related to including this content. Frequency counts and percentiles were calculated based on responses. Seventeen percent of the directors reported including a course on providing care for people with disabilities. Eighty-five programs included some content within a course, though only 55% of the programs cover more than three disabilities. Further findings and their implications are discussed. BackgroundInflammatory factors and low HDL-C relate to CHD risk, but whether inflammation attenuates any protective association of high HDL-C is unknown.ObjectiveInvestigate inflammatory markers' individual and collective impact on the association of HDL-C with incident coronary heart disease (CHD).MethodsIn 3,888 older adults without known cardiovascular disease (CVD), we examined if the inflammatory markers C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) modify the relation of HDL-C with CHD. HDL-C, CRP, IL-6, and Lp-PLA2 values were grouped as using gender-specific tertiles. Also, an inflammation index of z-score sums for CRP, IL-6, and Lp-PLA2 was categorized into tertiles. We calculated CHD incidence for each HDL-C/inflammation group and performed Cox regression, adjusted for standard CVD risk factors and triglycerides to examine the relationship of combined HDL-C-inflammation groups with incident events.ResultsCHD incidence (per 1,000 person years) was higher for higher levels of CRP, IL-6, and the index, and lower for higher levels of HDL-C.
