Er bestaan grote gezondheidsverschillen tussen bewoners met een hoge en lage sociaaleconomische status, zowel tussen regio's als binnen gemeenten. Sinds de jaren 80 is van alles gedaan om te proberen deze gezondheidsverschillen te verkleinen, met name via leefstijlinterventies. Dit heeft echter niet geleid tot kleinere gezondheidsverschillen. Er zijn namelijk allerlei factoren van invloed op leefstijl en gezondheid, waaronder de fysieke leefomgeving.Vanuit het lectoraat Gezonde Stad wordt onderzocht hoe de fysieke leefomgeving kan bijdragen aan een gezondere leefstijl en een betere gezondheid. Hiervoor is een integrale aanpak nodig en samenwerking tussen professionals en bewoners. Het centrale thema van deze webinar is hoe kan worden gestimuleerd dat (aankomend) professionals een integrale aanpak hanteren en hiervoor worden toegerust. En zij hoe bewoners hierbij kunnen betrokken.Sprekers:Lector gezonde stad Jeannette Nijkamp; over de samenwerking tussen het lectoraat Gezonde Stad en het Wijklab Floreshuis. Hierbij leren studenten van uiteenlopende studierichtingen in multidisciplinair verband onderzoek te doen, vanuit het hart van de wijk. Jos Meijers, oprichter van de sociale onderneming Toentje en directielid van de Wijkmakers, vertelt vanuit zijn ervaring als verbinder binnen het sociaal- en voedseldomein en over de recent opgerichte academie voor dorps- en wijkontwikkeling. Hier kunnen wijkontwikkelaars van nu en morgen elkaar ontmoeten, van elkaar leren en samen werken aan oplossingen voor complexe vraagstukken. Middels een leergang wijkontwikkeling en Werkplaats.Cor Wagenaar, hoogleraar Geschiedenis en theorie van architectuur en stedenbouw; over het betrekken van bewoners in Paddepoel bij de herinrichting van hun woonomgeving. Hierbij wordt gebruik gemaakt van virtual reality.

Inspiratiesessie voor medewerkers van de Hanzehogeschool. Zij gaan in gesprek met studenten van de Innovatiewerkplaats Gezonde Stad en het Wijklab Floreshuis, onderzoekers, bewoners en opdrachtgevers en werken samen in een co-creatie sessie aan een gezonde leefomgeving in de wijk. Tussendoor maken zij samen een wijkwandeling langs het Molukkenplantsoen.

The ‘Implementing injury Prevention training ROutines in TEams and Clubs in youth Team handball (I-PROTECT)’ uses an ecological participatory design incorporating the perspectives of multiple stakeholders throughout the project. In het project ‘Leefstijl in de zorg’ van de Preventiecoalitie Foodvalley brengen we ervaringen van zorgprofessionals uit de eerste lijn en de tweede lijn met het bevorderen van gezonde leefstijl binnen het cardiovasculair risicomanagement (CVRM) zorg in kaart en de factoren die dit beïnvloeden vanuit het perspectief van zorgprofessionals uit eerste en tweede lijn. Daarnaast worden mogelijke oplossingen voor de knelpunten geïnventariseerd met de praktijkprofessionals. De resultaten van dit project resulteren in een advies met concrete verbeterpunten voorn het voeren van het leefstijlgesprek en voor de samenwerking tussen professionals.

Het consortium Gezonde Stad (Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Gemeente Groningen, UMCG en VanWonen) heeft een audiotour "Ebbingekwartier Gezonde Stad" gemaakt. Een wandeling door het Ebbingekwartier om te ontdekken dat deze bruisende, stedelijke en culturele wijk ook een gezonde woonomgeving is. Het is een verhaal over het Ebbingekwartier van vroeger, nu en de toekomst.Cultuurliefhebbers, culinaire fijnproevers en sportievelingen: iedereen die van het leven geniet heeft zo de kans om het Ebbingekwartier op een bijzondere manier te ontdekken.

Based on the health-promoting effects of nature, taking clients outdoors into nature is increasingly being used as a complementary approach to traditional therapies, and evidence of their effectiveness is growing. Theories explaining how the combination of general psychological support and outdoor-specific elements can trigger the rehabilitation process in outdoor therapy are often lacking, however, impeding its systematic research.The study aims to develop an intervention and evaluation model for outdoor therapy to understand and empirically evaluate whether and how such an outdoor intervention may work for rehabilitation after burnout.

Belang van niet sporters, barrières en oplossingen

SamenvattingVaker buiten spelen maakt kinderen gezonder. Een actieve leefstijl is van groot belang voor een optimale groei en ontwikkeling van kinderen. De beperkingen als gevolg van het coronavirus maken dit extra zichtbaar. Het professionele netwerk ‘Zicht op Buiten’ bracht de gevolgen van te weinig buiten zijn en beweging voor de gezondheid van kinderen en jongeren in kaart, op het gebied van visus, motoriek, houding, overgewicht, slaap en psychosociale gezondheid. We bevelen sterk aan om 2 uur per dag naar buiten te gaan voor gezonde kinderogen, waarvan ten minste 1 uur matig-intensief bewegen om uithoudingsvermogen, spieren en botten te versterken. Andere leefstijlmaatregelen betreffen het verminderen van sedentair gedrag en regels over schermgebruik, evenals regelmatig afwisselen van zittende activiteiten.

To assess the effects of family nursing conversations on family caregiver burden, patients' quality of life, family functioning and the amount of professional home health care.A controlled before-and-after design.Intervention group families participated in two family nursing conversations incorporated in home health care; control group families received usual home health care. Patients and family members completed a set of questionnaires on entering the study and 6 months later to assess family caregiver burden, family functioning and patients' quality of life. The amount of home health care was extracted from patient files. Data were collected between January 2018-June 2019.Data of 51 patients (mean age 80; 47% male) and 61 family members (mean age 67; 38% male) were included in the results. Family caregiver burden remained stable in the intervention group whereas it increased in the control group. Family functioning improved significantly compared with the control group for patients and family members in the intervention group. No significant effects on patients' quality of life emerged. The amount of professional home health care decreased significantly in the intervention group whereas it remained equal in the control group.Family nursing conversations prevented family caregiver burden, improved family functioning, but did not affect patients' quality of life. In addition, the amount of home health care decreased following the family nursing conversations.Countries with ageing populations seek to reduce professional and residential care and therefore encourage family caregiving. Intensive family caregiving, however, places families at risk for caregiver burden which may lead to increased professional care and admission into residential care. It is unclear to what extent self‐employed choose to become self‐employed. This study aimed to compare the health care expenditures—as a proxy for health—of self‐employed individuals in the year before they started their business, to that of employees. Differences by sex, age, and industry were studied. In total, 5,741,457 individuals aged 25–65 years who were listed in the tax data between 2010 and 2015 with data on their health insurance claims were included. Self‐employed and employees were stratified according to sex, age, household position, personal income, region, and industry for each of the years covered. Weighted linear regression was used to compare health care expenditures in the preceding (year x–1) between self‐employed and employees (in year x). Compared with employees, expenditures for hospital care, pharmaceutical care and mental health care were lower among self‐employed in the year before they started their business. Differences were most pronounced for men, individuals ≥40 years and those working in the industry and energy sector, construction, financial institutions, and government and care. We conclude that healthy individuals are overrepresented among the self‐employed, which is more pronounced in certain subgroups. Further qualitative research is needed to investigate the reasons why these subgroups are more likely to choose to become self‐employed.

Chapter 3 describes the need for T-shaped Sport, Physical Activity and Health professionals. The authors de Jong and Skovgaard give insights on how to stimulate exercise and physical activity behaviour and counter sedentarism from a socioecological perspective. This perspective considers the complexity and systems thinking necessary to promote an active lifestyle for health. Furthermore, recommendations for a T-shaped Sport, Physical Activity, and Health professional that is educated in real-life situations (“Living Labs”) are made. From inside the classroom to outside in practice, the approach is a more congruent way of experiencing and learning how to deal with complex Sport, Physical Activity and Health challenges.

Afgelopen jaren is er groeiende aandacht voor ‘gezondheid als één van de belangrijkste maatschappelijke vraagstukken’. Op verschillende manieren zijn organisaties en hun mensen aan de slag om gezondheid van mensen te verbeteren. De ervaringen en de uitkomsten hiervan zijn niet louter positief. Ondanks jarenlange inzet valt er nog veel te leren als het gaat om de aanpak. Aangejaagd door een steeds bredere kijk op gezondheid – positieve gezondheid – bestaat deze aanpak ook vaker uit een co-creatie met verschil- lende partners. Maar hoe doen we dat eigenlijk, co-creatie? Wat kunnen we leren van verschillende initiatieven uit de regio Haaglanden? Dit artikel schetst eerst twee onderliggende ontwikkelingen: De bredere kijk op gezondheid en het concept co-creatie, een samenwerking van verschillende stakeholders vanaf de start, waarin ieders kennis even waardevol is. Ter illustratie volgt een verkenning van vijf initiatieven in regio Haaglanden. Gesprekken met betrokken professionals en bewoners geven meer inzicht in de manier waarop co-creatie tot stand komt, de waardevolle aspecten van werken in co-creatie en de diverse uitdagingen en aandachtspunten hierbij.

One reason for non-participation in and drop-out from sports and physical activity participation is sports related injuries where especially knee and ankle injuries contribute to this problem. Therefore, the project MOVE HEALTHY: Improving Health and Sustaining Participation of Youngsters in Sports around Europe seeks to develop free-of-charge education material to effectively support sport coaches and physical educators around Europe to prevent primary lower extremity injuries of the youngsters participating in their sport trainings and physical education (PE) classes. Therefore, MOVE HEALTHY seeks to develop exercise based routines to prevent sports and physical activity related injuries. The routines will be web-based including instruction videos. The routines will be based on the OPTIMAL motor learning theory and Self Determination Theory. It is intended that the consortium develops – by the process of co-creation with sport coaches and PE teachers – functional sports exercises that can be integrated in real world sport training and PE classes. With it, the project directly contributes to an improved sharing of good practices and develops innovative instruments in order to lower the risks of injuries and enhance sports participation in youngsters. The objective is to improve the motor competence of the youngsters, as well as to attitudinal and behavioral changes of the sport coaches and PE teachers during their practice. The ultimate goal of the MOVE HEALTHY project is that the youngsters can enjoy a lifelong, healthy sport participation

This dissertation revolves around the older and younger Chinese immigrants in the Netherlands. Specifically, the topic of study was the wellbeing of the older Chinese immigrants, and cultural elements as filial piety may play part in the in the wellbeing of this population. Comparative studies regarding frailty, loneliness and Quality of Life were conducted in China and the Netherlands, among older Chinese adults. In general, the older Chinese immigrant adults are predominantly socially vulnerable, such as a high prevalence of loneliness, whereas the native Chinese adults report a high prevalence of frailty. A second cross-national study provided insights in the cross-cultural equivalence of the De Jong Gierveld loneliness scale among the native and diasporic older Chinese adults. The cultural element filial piety is found to be relevant both to the first- and second-generation Chinese immigrants in the Netherlands. It is specifically of importance to the mental wellbeing of the older first-generation Chinese immigrants. Moreover, a qualitative study shows that filial piety frames how filial caregiving takes place among the second-generation Chinese immigrants. Lastly, a normative filial piety scale was translated to Dutch and psychometric validated among second-generation Chinese immigrants.These findings indicate that older Chinese immigrants are socially vulnerable. Secondly, filial piety is of relevance to the Chinese immigrants in the Netherlands. It is of importance to consider these aspects for professionals working both with older and younger Chinese immigrants in the Netherlands.

Differences in risk perceptions of public health and food safety hazards in various poultry husbandry systems by various stakeholder groups, may affect the acceptability of those husbandry systems. Therefore, the objective was to gain insight into risk perceptions of citizens, poultry farmers, and poultry veterinarians regarding food safety and public health hazards in poultry husbandry systems, and into factors explaining these risk perceptions. We surveyed risk perceptions of Campylobacter contamination of broiler meat, avian influenza introduction in laying hens, and altered dioxin levels in eggs for the most commonly used broiler and laying hen husbandry systems in Dutch citizens (n = 2,259), poultry farmers (n = 100), and poultry veterinarians (n = 41). Citizens perceived the risks of the three hazards in the indoor systems higher and in the outdoor systems lower than did the professionals. Citizens reported higher concerns regarding aspects reflecting underlying psychological factors of risk perception compared to professionals. Professionals indicated a relatively low level of personal control, which might imply risk denial. Of the socio-demographic characteristics, gender and childhood residence were associated with risk perceptions. The influence of other factors of risks perception are discussed. It is suggested that risk perceptions of all stakeholder groups are influenced by affect, stigma, and underlying values. To adapt current or new husbandry systems that can count on societal support, views of key stakeholders and multiple aspects such as animal welfare, public health, food safety, and underlying values should be considered integrally. When trade-offs, such as between animal welfare and public health have to be made, insight into underlying values might help to find consensus among stakeholders.

Wijkverpleegkundigen en poh’s hebben een belangrijke rol in zorg voor voeding. Eén van de taken daarin is het bevorderen van gezond voedingsgedrag door middel van het geven van voorlichting. Bij het geven van voorlichting kunnen verschillende materialen gebruikt worden. Het doel van deze rapportage is het in kaart brengen van ervaringen met voorlichtingsmaterialen door wijkverpleegkundigen en poh’s. In deze rapportage is te lezen welke materialen gebruikt worden, hoe deze materialen ingezet worden en wat de ervaringen zijn met de verschillende materialen. Daarnaast zijn de behoeften naar tools bij de begeleiding van zorgvragers rondom het bevorderen van gezond eetgedrag in kaart gebracht. Deze punten worden apart weergegeven voor poh’s en vervolgens voor wijkverpleegkundigen.

Jeannette Nijkamp onderzoekt hoe de fysieke leefomgeving gezonder kan worden ingericht. Doel is het bevorderen van de gezondheid van stadsbewoners en het verkleinen van gezondheidsverschillen. Dit is een complex vraagstuk, dat vanuit verschillende invalshoeken kan worden belicht en waarbij van alles komt kijken. Samen met de gasten Erik Buskens (UMCG), Miranda Venekamp-Brandt (VanWonen) en Marieke Zwaving (gemeente Groningen) gaat zij hierover in gesprek, onder leiding van host lector Mark Mobach.

Nederland voldoet sinds 2016 niet aan de gewenste vaccinatiegraad van 95% voor de infectieziekten uit het Rijksvaccinatieprogramma. Met de dalende vaccinatiegraad stijgt de kans op epidemieën. De overheid heeft de taak om de gezondheid van kinderen te beschermen en de volksgezondheid te bevorderen. In veel Europese landen zijn kindervaccinaties wettelijk verplicht. Dit kan een botsing met godsdienstvrijheid opleveren. Inmenging in een grondrecht is gerechtvaardigd als dit bij wet is voorzien, een legitiem doel dient (zoals het beschermen van de gezondheid) en noodzakelijk is in een democratische samenleving. Nederland heeft geen wettelijke grondslag voor een vaccinatieverplichting. Er is wel constitutionele ruimte om deze grondslag te creëren. Om te bepalen of dit noodzakelijk is weegt het EHRM de ernst van de inbreuk op het grondrecht af tegen de ernst van de infectieziekte. Vaak moet het individuele recht wijken voor het beschermen van de gezondheid. De oproep aan de politiek is om het parlementaire debat over een vaccinatieverplichting te voeren. Er zijn twee overwegingen die een vaccinatieplicht wenselijk maken: Men laat de gezondheid van het kind zwaarder wegen dan de godsdienstvrijheid van ouders en men stelt het belang van de samenleving als geheel boven het individu. Na een periode van individualisering kan een scheutje sociale solidariteit geen kwaad.

Ondanks de groeiende welvaart in Nederland en de toegenomen sociale mobiliteit blijken sociaaleconomische gezondheidsverschillen een hardnekkig fenomeen. Hoe komt dat nu, en wat kunnen we daar aan doen? Verschillende lectoraten van Platform Stad en Wijk doen hier al jaren onderzoek naar. In het digitale magazine ‘Gezondheidsverschillen’ bundelen we deze kennis. Deze publicatie is een samenwerking van zestien lectoraten van elf verschillende hogescholen die samenwerken in het Platform Stad en Wijk. Deze onderzoeksgroepen van hogescholen verschaffen inzicht in en dragen oplossingen aan voor maatschappelijke vraagstukken in stad en wijk. Met name gericht op participatie en veerkracht.

Observational learning is considered powerful to promote (implicit) motor learning. While it is a common tool in practice, little is known about the effects of video instructions on movement execution. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of watching biomechanically optimal (OPT) and suboptimal (SUBOPT) sidestep cutting (SSC) video instructions on movement execution. Ten male basketball players (age 15.5 ± 1.2 years, height 189.9 ± 3.1 cm, mass 75.4 ± 7.1 kg) from a Regional Talent Center performed anticipated 45° SSC tasks in baseline (BASE) followed by two counterbalanced experimental conditions. Subjects watched expert videos (matched by sex and height) of OPT and SUBOPT movement executions and were asked to imitate this to the best of their ability.
