The paper reports a rare case of intranasal meningoencephalocele in a 64-year-old female, simulating clinically a nasal polyp. A histological investigation of the removed polyp showed that it was composed mainly of malformed brain tissue with meninx vasculosa. The authors suggest a congenital nature of this formation.

A 47-year-old man had ulcero-necrotic pharyngitis examined and treated without effect in various Moscow hospitals for 3 months. The diagnosis was established after histologic and bacteriologic examination of the biopsy.

A clinically unclear case is described of stomatitis with a long duration in a male of 28. Exfoliations in the region of the mouth angle were observed resembling pemphigus vegetans. Biopsy examination revealed a thick plasma cell infiltration which was considered to be an extramedullary plasmacytoma. However, a polyclonal composition of plasmacytes was found immunomorphologically producing immunoglobulins A, M and G with predominant production of IgG. This allowed rejection of neoplastic nature of the infiltrate, confirming its inflammatory origin and specific character. Serological tests (Wassermann, immunofluorescence test, in vitro immobilization test) confirmed the diagnosis of secondary recurring syphilis. Differential diagnosis of plasma-cell syphilid of skin and mucosal extramedullary plasmacytoma is under discussion.

An analytical method has been developed and used to study the variation in polymer molar mass and molar mass distribution due to changes in the mode of polymerization. The potential of the method, which enables one to influence within certain limits the molecular weight distribution of a polymer prepared in a throughflow tubular reactor, is illustrated using the example of polyisobutylene.

Control of molecular weight characteristics of a polymer product is of special importance in the case of fast and ultrafast polymerization processes (kp⩾105 1./mole·sec) such as polymerization of isobutylene, vinyl butyl ether etc. The width of the molecular weight distribution of the product, in particular of polyisobutylene, reflects the non-uniformity of the temperature field in the reaction zone. Polyisobutylene can however be polymerized under nearly isothermal conditions in a cascade of tubular reactors, each provided with a separate, continuous supply of initiator, if an efficient external heat exchange is ensured.

It is found that the main wear-prone elements in machines for firing pellets are the coolers; changing these requires stopping the machine every 70–90 days on average, interrupting the normal course of the technological process. Repairs revealed the efficiency of the guniting method for repair of linings of firing machines, in comparison with poured concrete. The lifetimes of gunite concrete linings were 2–3 times greater: 220–240 days.

Reaction of aqueous solutions of salts of acrylic acids with thioepi chlorohydrin affords thietyl acrylates, which on hydrolysis give 3-hydroxythietane, and on oxidation with hydrogen peroxide give 3-hydroxythietane 1,1-dioxide. The diene synthesis was carried out with these acrylates, and also with acryloyl and methacryloyl isothiocyanates.

We consider a dynamic of spherically symmetric clumps of scalar field n Newtonian approximation. The possibility to form a hidden mass of the Universe is discussed. Numerical solution of the system of interacting scalar and gravitational fields is used to obtain the mass of a clumps.

In 14 days after the intraperitoneal infection of mice with 30% brain emulsion of white mice or of newly-born rats in the peritoneal liquid there were found spores of Nosema sp. 5.37 plus or minus 0.88 x 3.04 plus or minus 0.07 in size. The subsequent attempts to passage this organism on the mice by adminestering into them the suspension from the brain and internal organs of infected animals yielded ho results. The material for diagnosing on microsporidians of mammals is being discussed.

Cytochemical study of NAD-diaphorase and acid phosphatase (mitochondria and lysosomes markers) in the cells of the abdominal cavity exudate with aseptic inflammation and additional action of polyvinylpyridne-N-oxide with molecular weight in the range of from 2000 to 150 000 formed a background for demonstrating the possibility of stabilizing by means of the latter compound of mitochondrial and lysosomal membranes of macrophages, neutrophils and lymphocytes. The most pronounced stabilizing effect is produced by polyvinylpyridine-N-oxide with a molecular weight of 50 000 with its intramuscular introduction in a dose of 100 mg/kg.
