162. Introducing Interval Analysis in Fuzzy Cognitive Map Framework.

Abstract

Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) is a graphical model for causal knowledge representation. FCMs consist of nodes-concepts and weighted edges that connect the concepts and represent the cause and effect relationships among them. FCMs are used in complex problems involving causal relationships, which often include feedback, and where qualitative rather than quantitative measures of influences are available. They have used for decision support to determine a final state given a qualitative initial knowledge for nodes and weighted edges. A first study on introducing Interval analysis in the FCM framework has been attempted and it is presented in this work. Here a new structure for FCM is proposed with interval weights and a new method for processing interval data input for FCMs is proposed. Keywords: Fuzzy cognitive maps, Interval analysis. 163. Combining Fuzzy Cognitive Maps with Support Vector Machines for Bladder Tumor Grading.

Abstract

Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCM) is an advanced modeling methodology that provides flexibility on the system's design, modeling, simulation and control. This research work combines the Fuzzy Cognitive Map model for tumor grading with Support Vector Machines (SVMs) to achieve better tumor malignancy classification. The classification is based on the histopathological characteristics, which are the concepts of the Fuzzy Cognitive Map model that was trained using an unsupervised learning algorithm, the Nonlinear Hebbian Algorithm. The classification accuracy of the proposed approach is 89.13% for High Grade tumor cases and 85.54%, for tumors of Low Grade. The results of the proposed hybrid approach were also compared with other conventional classifiers and are very promising. Abstract

Learning is the most important thing that living creatures do. An organism cannot properly animate itself without first learning how to. Knowledge is the basis for all natural and human made systems. Using knowledge to model and control a complex dynamic system (CDS) is considered. Wisdom is carefully reviewed and related to knowledge. Deep Learning (DL) and Wise Learning (WL) are presented and analyzed as two approaches to address the challenging problem of modelling and controlling CDS. Strong and weak issues of both methods are discussed. Future research directions are provided.

175. Using Fuzzy Control Methods for Increasing the Energy Efficiency of Buildings

Abstract

The energy sector worldwide faces significant challenges that everyday become even more acute. Innovative technologies and energy efficiency measures are nowadays well known and widely spread, and the main issue is to identify the more effective and reliable in the long term. In order to do so the decision maker has to compensate many factors. This article investigates the feasibility of the application of new intelligent control methods in modeling and controlling the performance of a building. For the first time a performance comparison of Fuzzy Logic vs Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) theories is performed and interesting results are presented. Multi-level intelligent controllers to manage the various parts of a building's automation and increase its energy efficiency are presented. For the first time the Building Energy Management System has been modeled using FCMs. Simulation studies with real environmental data have been performed and useful results have been obtained and discussed. Challenging future research topics are provided.

Abstract

This paper investigates a hybrid methodology that combines fuzzy logic and neural networks, Fuzzy Cognitive Map (FCM), for modeling and controlling Supervisory Control Systems. A mathematical description of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCM) will be presented and new construction methods will be extensively examined. A Fuzzy Cognitive Map will be developed to model and control a process example and the Supervisor-FCM model characteristics will be discussed. There is a going need for more autonomous and intelligent systems, especially in Complex Systems area, the application of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps for modeling the Supervisor may contribute to develop more sophisticated systems. Abstract

A critical overview of modelling Business and Management (B&M) Systems using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps is presented. A limited but illustrative number of specific applications of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps in diverse B&M systems, such as e business, performance assessment, decision making, human resources management, planning and investment decision making processes is provided and briefly analyzed. The limited survey is given in a table with statics of using FCMs in B&M systems during the last 15 years. The limited survey shows that the applications of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps to today’s Business and Management studies has been steadily increased especially during the last 5-6 years. Interesting conclusions and future research directions are highlighted.

The aim of this paper is to use advanced control theories to model the total energy behavior of an autonomous building for residential or commercial use. The proposed method is using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps to model such intelligent buildings. Two Fuzzy Cognitive Maps are constructed. The energy requirements for a building from the southern part of Greece are being studied in order to construct the aforementioned controllers.

Abstract

In any solar power system where a number of collectors (Photovoltaic or Thermal) of different kinds are used to collect solar energy, shading of collectors by their neighbors could most likely occur during some period of the day, especially near sunrise and sunset. It is desired that any shadow be avoided or be restricted for small periods of time. In this work, a new measure, the shadow efficiency, is defined and determined as a function of the various parameters being considered. The shading effect of collectors for the three possible collectors' orientations, fixed tilt, full-tracking and half-tracking, is investigated.
