Thin films of MoO3 deposited on Si(111) and Al2O3(001) substrates by atomic layer deposition have been investigated by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and Raman spectroscopy for detailed characterization of composition and morphology. Comparison of angle resolved x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ARXPS) and XPS depth profiles based on Ar+ sputtering is reported. Sputtering induces a reduction of molybdenum in MoO3 from +IV to metallic Mo as the interface toward Si is approached, whereas ARXPS on a 10 nm thin film shows that Mo(VI) remains outside the interface toward Si where lower valent molybdenum compounds are formed. Upon annealing, the as-deposited amorphous thin films of MoO3 crystallize into β- or α-MoO3 as identified by x-ray diffraction. The current study provides a convenient route toward formation of metastable β-MoO3 and a full crystallization pathway from amorphous to crystalline α-MoO3. Combined AFM and Raman analysis have been performed on thin films of α-MoO3 deposited on Al2O3(001) and prove that the crystallization proceeds via island growth at 600 °C. Nurse practitioners were introduced into Australia in 1990 to improve access to health care in isolated communities where medical doctors are scarce. The slow uptake of nurse practitioners in these areas has largely been the result of legislation not affording them access to provider numbers through the Medicare Australia Act 1973. This has denied nurse practitioners the opportunity to become primary care providers because they cannot prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests at rebated costs. Recently this Act changed, making provision for nurse practitioners. Ironically the enactment of the new legislation still prevents nurse practitioners from practicing effectively. This paper describes the discursive practices in legislation, driven by traditional power brokers, which perpetuate the traditional role of nurses as care givers and fails to support the evolution of nurse practitioners as care providers. These continued practices effectively prevent nurse practitioners from working to their potential, despite government reassurance under recent health care reform in Australia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• When the philosophy of woman-centred care is not maintained, this places a woman with a complex pregnancy at risk of 'falling through the gaps' between maternity services, models of care and health providers. • Professional power differentials provoke professional boundary tensions and create barriers to woman-centred care in maternity services. • Organisational and siloed approaches to maternity care create barriers for midwives to provide woman-centred care. • Midwifery models of care intend to push the marker on the power continuum towards autonomy giving control of childbearing experiences back to the woman. Midwifery philosophy and practice is grounded in providing woman-centred care. The available evidence was reviewed to better understand how to provide Woman-centred midwifery care in complex pregnancy situations. Complexity in this context is defined as psychosocial or biomedical risk factors that place the mother and/or her baby at increased risk for adverse outcomes. A comprehensive integrative review was undertaken to identify peer reviewed research in English over the last 5 years. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme Tool. Published studies which discussed enablers and barriers to woman-centred care for pregnant women with complex needs. 13 papers met the inclusion criteria for this review. This review identifies that Organisational and Professional power differentials create barriers to woman-centred care and provoke professional boundary tensions. For a woman with a complex pregnancy, this places her at risk for 'falling through the gaps' between maternity services, models of care and health providers. Women, birth and midwifery care are still largely constrained within a biomedical model of maternity care. Whilst barriers to woman-centred care have been identified, for women with complexity in pregnancy there appear to be few solutions when care requires multi-specialist input and crossing the boundaries and silos of healthcare. Aim: To stimulate discussion and debate about the inclusion of vulnerable populations in primary research to inform practice change and improve health outcomes. Background: Current research practices to safeguard vulnerable people from potential harms related to power imbalances may in fact limit the generation of evidence‐based practice. Evaluation: The authors draw on their experience working and researching with a recognized group of vulnerable people, incarcerated pregnant women, to provide insight into the application of ethics in both research and clinical practice. In a novel approach, the ethical principles are presented in both contexts, articulating the synergies between them. Suggestions are presented for how individuals, managers and organizations may improve research opportunities for clinical practitioners and enhance the engagement of vulnerable people to contribute to meaningful practice and policy change. Key Issues: Ethical practice guidelines may limit the ability to create meaningful change for vulnerable populations, who need authentic system change to achieve good health outcomes. Conclusion: Inclusive research and practice are essential to ensuring a strengths‐based approach to healthcare and addressing health needs of the whole population. Health systems and models of care recognizing the diverse lives and health needs of the broader population demand practical, sustainable support from clinical managers. Implications for Nursing Management: Practical suggestions for clinical managers to support point of care research is provided, embedding vulnerable voices in policy, practice development and care provision. Introduction: Nurse Navigators were introduced in Queensland, Australia, in 2016. Nurse Navigators coordinate person‐centred care, create partnerships, improve care coordination and outcomes and facilitate system improvement, independently of hospital or community models. They navigate across all aspects of hospital and social services, liaising, negotiating and connecting care as needed. People stay with Nurse Navigators for as long as required, though the intent is to transition them from high‐care needs to self‐management. Nurse Navigators are a working model in rural and remote areas of Queensland. Objective: To describe where the rural and remote Nurse Navigator position fits within the Rural Remote Nursing Generalist Framework and to define the depth and breadth of the rural and remote Nurse Navigator's scope of practice. Design: Using template analysis, data from focus groups and interviews were analysed against the domains of the recently released National Rural and Remote Nursing Generalist Framework. Navigators working in rural and remote areas across Queensland Health were invited to an interview (n = 4) or focus group (n = 9), conducted between October 2019 and August 2020. Findings: Rural and remote Nurse Navigators are proficient in all domains of the framework and actively champion for their patients, carers and the communities where they live and work. Discussion: This research demonstrates that rural and remote Nurse Navigators are a working model of advanced nursing practice, acting as 'champions' of The Framework. We explore the complex ways in which mothers of visibly physically disabled children manage moments of abjection in their relationships with their children. Two women’s stories are told in order to illustrate the power of their disturbing experiences and the ways mothers strive to share the unsharable, thereby empathically connecting with themselves and their children. We argue that understanding maternal experiences is important in and of itself, and that such experiences offer a model for how others may find ways to embrace disability rather than reject, avoid, or hate it. A model of maternal ambivalence that can show how mothers negotiate the abject may go some way towards thinking about the unthinkable. Biocomposites have emerged as promising alternative materials for the aviation industry. However, there is a limited body of scientific literature addressing the end-of-life management of biocomposites. This article evaluated different end-of-life technologies for biocomposite recycling in a structured, five-step approach applying the innovation funnel principle. First, ten end-of-life (EoL) technologies were compared in terms of their circularity potential and technology readiness levels (TRL). Second, a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) was carried out to find out the top four most promising technologies. Afterwards, experimental tests were conducted at a laboratory scale to evaluate the top three technologies for recycling biocomposites by analysing (1) three types of fibres (basalt, flax, carbon) and (2) two types of resins (bioepoxy and Polyfurfuryl Alcohol (PFA) resins). Subsequently, further experimental tests were performed to identify the top two recycling technologies for the EoL treatment of biocomposite waste from the aviation industry. Finally, the sustainability and economic performance of the top two identified EoL recycling technologies were evaluated through life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic analysis (TEA). The experimental results, performed via the LCA and TEA assessments, demonstrated that both solvolysis and pyrolysis are technically, economically, and environmentally viable options for the EoL treatment of biocomposite waste from the aviation industry. Aims To outline the way the culture of austerity arising from the Global Financial Crisis has been used by Australian and New Zealand governments to maintain and extend healthcare budget cuts, through new public management strategies leading to missed nursing care. Background Ten years on the cost of the Global Financial Crisis continues to be borne by tax payers and those employed by the welfare state, yet analysis shows clearly that it was caused by a failure to adequately regulate markets, particularly the banks and multinational corporations. In health care, one of the impacts is increased workload for nurses leading to missed care. Design/Methods Registered Nurses and midwives ( n = 7,302) completed the MISSCARE surveys between 2012 - 2015, in four Australian states and New Zealand providing quantitative and qualitative responses. The qualitative comments were analysed using a template analysis approach based on key features of New Public Management. Findings Sixty-two qualitative responses identified measures in place directly linked to austerity and new public management strategies that impacted on the quality of patient care and nursing work, as well as contributing to missed care. Conclusion Opportunities for resistance may lie outside public and private health organizations in civil society, in the nurse union movements and other health and nursing professional associations. Aims: This study aimed to understand midwifery care during labour, particularly decision‐making processes, within Australian health systems. Background: Midwifery, founded on a wellness model of motherhood, is at risk of being medicalized. Whilst medical intervention is lifesaving, it requires judicious use. Governance provides oversight to care. Exploring decision‐making contributes to understanding governance of practices. Method: Straussian grounded theory using semi‐structured interviews. Eighteen Australian registered midwives were interviewed about their practice when caring for women during labour. Results: Midwives were caught between divergent positions; birth as natural versus birth as risk. Experienced midwives discussed focussing on the woman, yet less experienced were preoccupied with mandatory protocols like early warning tools. Practice was governed by midwives approach within context of labour. The final theory: The Coalescence of Perceptions, Practice and Power, comprising three categories: perceptions and behaviour, shifting practice and power within practice, emerged. Conclusions: Coalescence Theory elucidates how professional decision making by midwives during care provision is subject to power within practice, thereby governed by tensions, competing priorities and organizational mandates. Implications for Midwifery Managers: Midwifery managers are well positioned to negotiate the nuanced space that envelopes birthing processes, namely, expert knowledge, policy mandates and staffing capability and resources, for effective collaborative governance. Aim: To investigate the association of unfinished nursing care on nurse outcomes. Design: Systematic review in line with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guideline. Data sources CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Medline, ProQuest and Scopus databases were searched up until April 2020. Review Methods: Two independent reviewers conducted each stage of the review process: screening eligibility, quality appraisal using Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool; and data extraction. Narrative synthesis compared measurements and outcomes. Results: Nine hospital studies were included, and all but one were cross‐sectional multicentre studies with a variety of sampling sizes (136–4169 nurses). Studies had low internal validity implying a high risk of bias. There was also a high potential for bias due to non‐response. Only one study explicitly sought to examine nurse outcomes as a primary dependent variable, as most included nurse outcomes as mediating variables. Of the available data, unfinished nursing care was associated with: reduced job satisfaction (5/7 studies); burnout (1/3); and intention‐to‐leave (2/2). No association was found with turnover (2/2). Conclusion: Unfinished nursing care remains a plausible mediator of negative nurse outcomes, but research is limited to single‐country studies and self‐reported outcome measures. Given challenges in the sector for nurse satisfaction, recruitment and retention, future research needs to focus on nurse outcomes as a specific aim of inquiry in relation to unfinished nursing care. Impact Unfinished nursing care has previously been demonstrated to be associated with staffing, education and work environments, with negative associations with patient outcomes (patient satisfaction, medication errors, infections, incidents and readmissions). This study offers new evidence that the impact of unfinished nursing care on nurses is under investigated. Policymakers can prioritize the funding of robust observational studies and quasi‐experimental studies with a primary aim to understand the impact of unfinished nursing care on nurse outcomes to better inform health workforce sustainability. Abstract Background Nurses are often responsible for the care of many patients at the same time and have to prioritise their daily nursing care activities. Prioritising the different assessed care needs and managing consequential conflicting expectations, challenges nurses' professional and moral values. Objective To explore and illustrate the key aspects of the ethical elements of the prioritisation of nursing care and its consequences for nurses. Design, data sources and methods A scoping review was used to analyse existing empirical research on the topics of priority setting, prioritisation and rationing in nursing care, including the related ethical issues. The selection of material was conducted in three stages: research identification using two data bases, CINAHL and MEDLINE. Out of 2024 citations 25 empirical research articles were analysed using inductive content analysis. Results Nurses prioritised patient care or participated in the decision-making at the bedside and at unit, organisational and at societal levels. Bedside priority setting, the main concern of nurses, focused on patients' daily care needs, prioritising work by essential tasks and participating in priority setting for patients' access to care. Unit level priority setting focused on processes and decisions about bed allocation and fairness. Nurses participated in organisational and societal level priority setting through discussion about the priorities. Studies revealed priorities set by nurses include prioritisation between patient groups, patients having specific diseases, the severity of the patient's situation, age, and the perceived good that treatment and care brings to patients. The negative consequences of priority setting activity were nurses' moral distress, missed care, which impacts on both patient outcomes and nursing professional practice and quality of care compromise. Conclusions Analysis of the ethical elements, the causes, concerns and consequences of priority setting, need to be studied further to reveal the underlying causes of priority setting for nursing staff. Prioritising has been reported to be difficult for nurses. Therefore there is a need to study the elements and processes involved in order to determine what type of education and support nurses require to assist them in priority setting.
