زمینه و اهداف: بعد از گسترش بیماری کرونا و افزایش مراجعات به بیمارستان‌ها،کارکنان نظام سلامت تحت فشار روانی قرار گرفتند. این وضعیت می‌توانست تأثیرات منفی بر عملکرد سازمان داشته باشد. به همین دلیل، پژوهش حاضر با هدف ارتباط بین کیفیت زندگی کاری و سلامت عمومی کارکنان بیمارستان‌ها در دوران پس از کرونا انجام شد. مواد و روش‌ها: این مطالعه از نوع توصیفی همبستگی می‌باشد که به شیوه مقطعی در سال 1401 انجام شد. 344 کارمند شاغل در بیمارستان‌های تحت پوشش دانشگاه علوم پزشکی زابل به روش نمونه‌گیری تصادفی طبقه‌ای انتخاب شدند. ابزار گردآوری داده‌ها، پرسشنامه اطلاعات جمعیت‌شناختی، پرسشنامه سلامت عمومی و کیفیت زندگی کاری بود. تجزیه و تحلیل داده‌ها با استفاده از آمار توصیفی و استنباطی در نرم‌افزار SPSS نسخه 22 انجام شد. ملاحظات اخلاقی در طول نگارش مطالعه رعایت شد. یافته‌ها: بین کیفیت زندگی کاری و سلامت عمومی کارکنان، ارتباط آماری معنی‌داری مشاهده شد (P=0/0001). میانگین امتیاز کل پرسشنامه سلامت عمومی،0/62±1/49 (در حد متوسط) و میانگین امتیاز کل پرسشنامه کیفیت زندگی کاری، 0/71±2/49 (نسبتا متوسط) بود. در مولفه‌های کیفیت زندگی کاری، کمترین و بیشترین امتیاز به ترتیب به مولفه پرداخت منصفانه (0/76±2/19) و فضای کلی زندگی (0/73±3/1) اختصاص یافت. همچنین، در مولفه‌های سلامت عمومی، کمترین و بیشترین امتیاز به ترتیب شامل افسردگی (0/55±1/09) و کارکرد اجتماعی (0/76±1/76) بودند. نتیجه‌گیری: با توجه به ارتباط بین سلامت عمومی و کیفیت زندگی کاری، مدیران بیمارستان‌ها، ملزم به بررسی مداوم این دو عامل به خصوص در شرایط بحرانی و دوران پس از آن هستند. این اقدامات منجر به بهبود عملکرد و ارتقای بهره‌وری بیمارستان‌ها خواهد شد.

Pentamodes (first conceived theoretically by Milton and Cherkaev) are a very interesting class of mechanical metamaterials that can be used as building blocks of structures withdecoupled bulk and shear moduli. The pentamodes usually are composed of double cone-shaped struts with the middle diameter being large and the end diameters being tiny (ideally approaching zero). The cubic diamond geometry was proposed by Milton and Cherkaev as a suitable geometry for the unit cell and has since been used in the majority of the works on pentamodes. In this work, we aim to evaluate the degree to which the base unit cell design contributes to high bulk to shear modulus ratio, also known as Figure Of Merit(FOM). In addition to the diamond unit cell, three other well-known unit cell types are considered, and the effect of small diameter size and the ratio of large-to-small diameter, α, on the FOM is evaluated. The results showed that regardless of the base unit cell shape, the FOM value is highly dependent on the d (the smaller diameter size of double-cone) value, while its dependence on the D (the greater diameter of double-cone) value is very weak. For d/h∝0.05 (h representing the linkage length), figures of merit in the range of 103 could be reached for all the studied topologies.

Public access to genetic information is increasing, and community dermatologists may progressively encounter patients interested in genetic testing for melanoma risk. Clarifying potential utility will help plan for this inevitability. We determined interest and uptake of genetic risk feedback based on melanocortin receptor gene (MC1R) variants, immediate (two weeks) responses to risk feedback, and test utility at three months in patients (age ≥ 18, with a history of nonmelanoma skin cancer). Participants (N = 50) completed a baseline survey and were invited to consider MC1R testing via the study website. Testing interest and uptake were assessed through registration of test decision, request of a saliva test kit, and kit return (all yes/no). Immediate responses to risk feedback included feedback-relevant thoughts, emotions, communication, and information seeking after result receipt; test utility outcomes included family and physician communication and information seeking. Results indicated good retention at both time points (76%; 74%). Half (48%) logged onto the study website, and of these, most (92%) chose testing and (95%) returned a saliva sample. After two weeks, most (94%) had read all the risk feedback information and distress was low (M = 8.81, 7-28, SD = 2.23). Many (69%) had talked with their family about the results. By three months, most had spoken with family (92%) and physicians (80%) about skin cancer risk. Physician communication was higher (70%) in those tested versus those not tested (40%, p = 0.02). The substantial interest and promising outcomes associated with MC1R genetic testing in dermatology patients inform intervention strategies to enhance benefits and minimize risks of skin cancer genetic testing.

Background: Neuroblastoma is the most common extracranial solid tumor in children. MYCN gene amplification (MNA) is an independent prognostic factor for rapid tumor progression and poor prognosis, regardless of age and clinical stage. Gain of the MYCN gene locus on the short arm of chromosome 2 can also be found in neuroblastoma.Method: In this retrospective descriptive analysis of genetic alterations in neuroblastoma tumor samples, both before and after standard chemotherapy, we examined the MYCN gene copy number status in 20 neuroblastic tumor samples using the fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) method. We also evaluated its relationship with clinical variables and tumor maturation after standard chemotherapy treatment. Additionally, we compared disease outcomes among different MYCN copy number categories.Results: Among the tumor samples, four (25%) exhibited increased MYCN copy numbers, 20% showed MYCN amplification, and 5% displayed MYCN gain. We observed decreased survival rates in advanced stages of neuroblastoma. Furthermore, in male patients, we noted an association between increased MYCN copy number and metastatic tumors.Conclusion: We found that increased MYCN copy number is moderately associated with an immature phenotype and correlated with lower event-free survival. However, we did not detect a statistically significant difference.

Gamma rays are the most energetic photons in the electromagnetic spectrum, detected with ground-based and space-based detectors in different energy ranges from sources in our galaxy and beyond. Gamma-ray point sources can be identified by special clustering of these photons. The minimum spanning tree (MST) algorithm is a graph-based method in order to find clusters. In this paper, we use the MST algorithm for finding point sources in Fermi gamma-ray space telescope data which is sensitive to photons with energies of 20 MeV up to more than 300 GeV. To this end, we selected eight completely random (10°×10°) fields of Fermi gamma-ray sky and tested the algorithm on the 12-year Fermi-LAT sky (Pass 8) at energy ranges above 3 GeV and above 6 GeV and with different cluster selection criteria. The calculation of Precision and Recall for both fields shows that MST is a useful algorithm in order to identify the point.

Abstract The occurrence of inter‐area oscillations in a power system is challenging to prevent. Thus, it is imperative to dampen inter‐area oscillations due to their potential to cause various instability problems. In this study, the Fuzzy Elman Wavelet Neural Network (FEWNN) was created as a novel neuro‐fuzzy network that combines the beneficial features of the Wavelet Neural Network (WNN), Takagi‐Sugeno‐Kang (TSK) fuzzy model, and cross‐coupled feedbacks inspired by the Elman Neural Network (ENN). Compared to alternative fuzzy wavelet networks, the representations of high‐order nonlinear dynamic systems in the proposed novel FEWNN are more effective, the training speed and computational power are greater, and interval type‐2 fuzzy membership functions are able to manage uncertainties in the power system. This paper uses FEWNN to develop a novel method for damping inter‐area oscillations caused by flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) employing a supplementary damping controller (SDC) based on direct adaptive control theory (DACT). The proposed SDC is integrated into a Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) in a two‐machine two‐area power system and Kundor's four‐machine two‐area power system, as well as a Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) in Kundor's four‐machine two‐area power system. In conclusion, the damping power of the system is compared to that of other SDCs presented in recent studies. The MATLAB/SIMULINK environment was used to conduct all simulations for this work.

Background and Aim: Doxorubicin is an effective chemotherapeutic agent. However, use of this drug is limited due to its dose-dependent cardiotoxicity. Activation of apoptotic pathways in myocardial tissue plays an important role in doxorubicin- induced cardiotoxicity. Minocycline is an antibiotic that has anti-apoptotic effects. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of minocycline against doxorubicin-induced cardiac toxicity in male rats. Materials and Methods: Forty two adult male rats were divided into control (normal saline), doxorubicin (2.5 mg / kg), minocycline (45 and 90 mg / kg) and treatment (doxorubicin + minocycline 45 and 90 mg / kg) groups. Minocycline was injected intraperitoneally, once a day for 3 weeks. Ejection fraction (EF) and fractional shortening (FS) were measured using echocardiography. The activity of caspase 3/7 and the expression of Bax and Bcli were measured by biochemical methods. Bax and Bcl-2 genes expression levels were estimated by real-time PCR. Results: In the minocycline-treated groups (45 and 90 mg / kg) the activity of caspase 7/3 and the expression of Bax gene were significantly lower and the levels of EF, FS and Bcl-2 expression were significantly higher than those in the doxorubicin group. Conclusion: Minocycline reduces doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. The anti-apoptotic effects of minocycline may play an important role in its protective effects.

Condensed fermented corn extractives (liquid steep liquor) was assessed as an alternative to organic acids in broiler chicken. This paper comprehensively analyzes advanced Fault Diagnosis and Prognosis (FDP) techniques employed in aerial and space agents such as satellites, spacecraft, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The critical engineering functions of fault diagnostics and prognosis, particularly the emerging field of fault prognosis, emphasize the necessity for further advancement. Integrating these methodologies enriches the system’s capacity to diagnose faults in their early stages. Additionally, it enables the prediction of fault propagation and facilitates proactive maintenance to mitigate the risk of severe failure. This paper aims to introduce diverse FDP methods, followed by a discussion on their application and evolution within single and multisatellite/UAV systems. Throughout this review, eighty-five relevant works are analyzed and discussed and their evaluation metrics are expanded upon as well. Within the works analyzed in this review, it was found that data-driven methods constitute 54% and 7% of the methodologies utilized in single- and multiagent FDP, respectively, which underscores the rise of these methods in the field of single-agent FDP and their unexplored potential in multiagent condition monitoring. Finally, this review is brought to a close with a suggested classification scheme of the utilized methodologies in the field, a quantitative analysis of their contributions to the field, and remarks and mentions of the potential gaps in the area.

This study addresses the impact of urban parks on the self-rated health of office workers under 40, a demographic experiencing significant increases in depressive symptoms during the pandemic. This study in Baise City, China, aims to fill this gap by exploring the relationships between landscape quality, leisure time spent in parks, place attachment, and self-rated health among 411 office workers aged 18 to 40. Structural equation modeling was used to assess these relationships, and multigroup analysis (MGA) in SmartPLS evaluated differences between subgroups. The findings reveal a strong link between urban park landscape quality and leisure time spent in parks, place attachment, and self-rated health. Although the old-fashioned park showed lower overall performance in the study variables compared to the modern park, it had a stronger relationship between landscape quality and place attachment. Leisure time spent in parks did not directly impact self-rated health but was mediated by place attachment. MGA results indicated that while leisure time in parks positively affected self-rated health for single participants, it had a negative effect for married participants. These results underscore the importance of tailoring urban park design and management to accommodate the varying needs of different demographics. This research provides new insights into enhancing office workers’ self-rated health through environmental design and supports the objectives of the Healthy China strategy and Sustainable Development Goal 11.

Learning Objectives: To identify gender-specific needs among female EM residents and develop a curriculum to recognize these challenges and discuss strategies to overcome barriers to equality.Introduction/Background: Women were first admitted to medical school in 1849, yet the discrepancies and disparities experienced by female physicians still persist. The challenges facing women in medicine begin early in the education and training process. A resident-driven “Women in Emergency Medicine’’ curriculum was established at Cook County’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program to address these issues, promote mentorship and foster professional growth.Educational Objectives: The objective of the curriculum was to unveil specific inequities experienced by a cohort of female EM residents and create a resident-led curriculum to address these challenges. The curriculum promoted safe spaces for focused discussions, provided directed mentorship and culminated in an educational retreat featuring speakers and activities based on surveyed needs.Curricular Design: In August 2020, using the Kern model, a needs assessment survey was created and distributed among the 20 female EM residents, with the goal of identifying common obstacles faced by this cohort. Small group discussions were implemented over 7 weeks to address these topics. Based on the initial survey and discussions, the first annual Women in EM Residency Retreat was held in June 2021. The educational retreat included faculty presentations on resident wellness, mentorship, combating micro/macroaggressions, women in leadership, resilience and resume building. Anonymous pre- and post-retreat surveys were distributed for session feedback and evaluation of efficacy.Impact/Effectiveness: The findings demonstrated that 100% of participants felt that a female directed curriculum was crucial for professional and personal development. Interestingly, while 100% of residents felt they had female faculty mentors to support them, only 46% felt similarly about male faculty mentors. This data presents an obligation for department leaders to address allyship needs by male faculty towards female trainees.

The daily influence of new technologies on shaping and reshaping human lives necessitates attention to the ethical development of the future computing workforce. To improve computer science students' ethical decision-making, it is important to know how they make decisions when they face ethical issues. This article contributes to the research and practice of computer ethics education by identifying the factors that influence ethical decision-making of computer science students and providing implications to improve the process. Using a constructivist grounded theory approach, the data from the text of the students' discussion postings on three ethical scenarios in computer science and the follow-up interviews were analyzed. Based on the analysis, relating to real-life stories, thoughtfulness about responsibilities that come from the technical knowledge of developers, showing care for users or others who might be affected, and recognition of fallacies, contributed to better ethical decision-making. On the other hand, falling for fallacies and empathy for developers negatively influenced students' ethical decision-making process. Based on the findings, this study presents a model of factors that influence the ethical decision-making process of computer science students, along with implications for future researchers and computer ethics educators.

The global burden of the endemic mycoses (blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, emergomycosis, histoplasmosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, sporotrichosis, and talaromycosis) continues to rise yearly and these infectious diseases remain a leading cause of patient morbidity and mortality worldwide. Management of the associated pathogens requires a thorough understanding of the epidemiology, risk factors, diagnostic methods and performance characteristics in different patient populations, and treatment options unique to each infection. Guidance on the management of these infections has the potential to improve prognosis. The recommendations outlined in this Review are part of the "One World, One Guideline" initiative of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology. Experts from 23 countries contributed to the development of these guidelines. The aim of this Review is to provide an up-to-date consensus and practical guidance in clinical decision making, by engaging physicians and scientists involved in various aspects of clinical management.

This study investigates the hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of a novel medium entropy alloy subjected to low strain rates and temperatures ranging from 650 °C to 850 °C. The alloy was subjected to hot compression testing under various conditions to observe its response. At all deformation condition, discontinous dynamic recrystallization was the main restoratory mechanism. After full recrystallization, grain sizes ranged from 1 to 5 μm, accompanied by an average hardness of 250 HV. The flow curves demonstrated a typical three-stage work hardening behavior across all deformation conditions, indicative of dynamic recrystallization. It is found that the deformation activation energy (Q) exhibited a negative slope with increasing strain, with an average value of Q = 267.7 kJ/mol. Zener-Hollomon parameter was determined from the experimental results and effectively used to simulate deformation, demonstrating good agreement with experimental findings. Remarkably, following the initial cycle of recrystallization, the deformation process shifted towards grain boundary sliding instead of secondary recrystallization, displaying characteristics reminiscent of superplastic behavior. Further analysis revealed a high strain rate sensitivity (m > 0.3) at 750 °C and 850 °C, with grain sizes lower than anticipated values. In summary, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution in the Fe50-(CoCrMnNi)50 alloy. The findings shed light on dynamic recrystallization, deformation activation energy, and the unexpected shift to grain boundary sliding. These insights are valuable for advancing the knowledge of medium entropy alloys and their potential applications in various industries.

Abstract Hadoop is a framework for storing and processing huge volumes of data on clusters. It uses Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) for storing data and uses MapReduce to process that data. MapReduce is a parallel computing framework for processing large amounts of data on clusters. Scheduling is one of the most critical aspects of MapReduce. Scheduling in MapReduce is critical because it can have a significant impact on the performance and efficiency of the overall system. The goal of scheduling is to improve performance, minimize response times, and utilize resources efficiently. A systematic study of the existing scheduling algorithms is provided in this paper. Also, we provide a new classification of such schedulers and a review of each category. In addition, scheduling algorithms have been examined in terms of their main ideas, main objectives, advantages, and disadvantages.

Abstract In this study, the magnetic photocatalyst Scendesmus/Fe3O4/TiO2 was synthesized, and its sonophotocatalytic properties in relation to the degradation of the Red195 dye were evaluated. Particles were characterized using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier's transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and a vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM). At a pH of 5, a photocatalyst dosage of 100 mg, an initial R195 concentration of 100 mg/l, an ultrasound power of 38W, and an exposure time of 20 min, the maximum Red195 removal efficiency (100%) was achieved. After five cycles of recycling, the composite's sonophotocatalytic degradation stability for R195 remains above 95%. Experiments on scavenging indicate that electrons (h+) and hydroxyls (OH-) are indispensable decomposition agents. The removal of R195 by Scendesmus/Fe3O4/TiO2 is consistent with the pseudo-first-order kinetic, Freundlich, and Henderson's isotherm models, as determined by kinetic and isotherm investigations. The negative activation enthalpy of the standard (ΔH°) illuminates the exothermic adsorption mechanism. The increase in standard Gibbs activation free energy (ΔG°) with increasing temperature reveals the process is not spontaneous. As indicated by the negative value of the standard entropy of activation (ΔS°), activation of the reactants resulted in a loss of freedom.

The filtration rate is one of the physiological indices in bivalves that indicates the degree of the effectiveness of the filtration function in exposure to contaminants. In this study, the changes in filtration rate of Dressina poly morpha were investigated after 7 and 14 days of exposure to silver nanoparticles. Bivalves were removed from the natural environment and transferred to the laboratory. The distribution of nanoparticles in water tanks was tested with the DLS device. Bivalves were exposed to concentrations of 0.25, 2.5 and 25 ppm of nanoparticles for 14 days. The results showed the highest filtration rate for the control group (96 ± 47.74 ml min-1 g-1DW). On day 7, the highest filtration rate was observed in the first treatment (88.58 ± 64.38 ml min-1 g-1DW) and the lowest filtration rate was observed in treatment 3 (47.67 ± 11.81) ml min-1 g-1DW), no significant difference was observed in the filtration rate betwen first treatment and control (P >0.05), but the filtration rate in the third treatment was significantly (P

Abstract Major depressive disorder is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in the world. It is essential to study and use effective, available, and affordable psychotherapy methods along with drug therapy to manage the symptoms of this disease. Therefore, the current study aimed to determine the effect of mobile phone-based logotherapy on depression, suicidal ideation, and hopelessness in patients with major depressive disorder by using a mixed-methods approach. In the first phase of this mixed-methods study, 70 patients completed the quantitative phase (control group = 35, intervention group = 35). The intervention group received an 8-week mobile-based logotherapy program via WhatsApp (one 180-min module per week) combined with sertraline, while the control group received just sertraline plus education about pharmacotherapy. Data was collected before, immediately after the intervention, and 3 months later using the Beck depression inventory short form items (BDI-13), the Beck hopelessness scale (BHS), and the Beck scale for suicide ideation (BSSI). Then, a qualitative study on the intervention group was conducted to explain the findings of the quantitative phase. Abstract Introduction Iran is host to one of the world’s largest and longest-standing refugee populations. Although Iran has initiated a basic health insurance scheme for refugees throughout the country since September 2015, the population coverage of this scheme is very low, and various factors have caused a significant percentage of refugees to still lack insurance coverage and often face financial hardships when receiving health services. In response, this study aimed to understand barriers to insurance coverage among refugees in Iran and propose effective policies that can address persistent gaps in financial protection. Methods This qualitative study was conducted in two phases. First, a review of policy documents and interviews with participants were conducted to investigate the common barriers and facilitators of effective insurance coverage for refugees in Iran. Then, a systems thinking approach was applied to visualize the common variables and interactions on the path to achieving financial protection for refugees. Results Findings showed that various factors, such as (1) household-based premium for refugees, (2) considering a waiting time to be eligible for insurance benefits, (3) determining high premiums for non-vulnerable groups and (4) a deep difference between the health services tariffs of the public and private service delivery sectors in Iran, have caused the coverage of health insurance for non-vulnerable refugees to be challenging. Furthermore, some policy solutions were found to improve the health insurance coverage of refugees in Iran. These included removing household size from premium calculations, lowering current premium rates and getting monthly premiums from non-vulnerable refugees. Conclusions A number of factors have caused health insurance coverage to be inaccessible for refugees, especially non-vulnerable refugees in Iran. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt effective policies to improve the health financing for the refugee with the aim of ensuring financial protection, taking into account the different actors and the interactions between them.

Abstract Background Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder is one of the most severe complications after transplantation, caused by uncontrolled proliferation of Epstein–Barr virus-positive B-cells in the setting of chronic immunosuppression. As one of the biggest transplant centers worldwide, we observed a potential increase in the number of patients with posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms in 1 year, during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. There is limited information about dysregulation of the immune system following coronavirus disease 2019 infection, which may lead to Epstein–Barr virus reactivation in Epstein–Barr virus-positive B-cells and development of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder. Furthermore, there is no consensus in literature on a modality that can help in early diagnosis of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder with nonspecific gastrointestinal presentations before late and fatal complications occur. Case presentation Our case series includes five Iranian (Persian) patients, three female (2, 2.5, and 5 years old) and two male (2 and 2.5 years old), who developed gastrointestinal posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder after liver transplantation. All of our patients were on a similar immunosuppressant regimen and had similar Epstein–Barr virus serologic status (seronegative at time of transplantation but seropositive at time of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder diagnosis). Four patients had either a positive coronavirus disease 2019 polymerase chain reaction test or exposure within the family. Although all of our patients presented with nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms, four patients developed late posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder complications such as bowel perforation and obstruction. All five patients with gastrointestinal posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder received chemotherapy, but only two survived and currently are continuing the therapy. In one of the surviving patients, prompt endoscopic investigation resulted in early diagnosis of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder and a better outcome. Conclusion Since 80% of our patients had exposure to coronavirus, a potential relationship might be suggested between the two. Furthermore, as we witnessed in one case, urgent endoscopic investigation in immunocompromised patients presenting with gastrointestinal symptoms can improve the clinical outcomes and therefore should be considered for early diagnosis of posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder.

IntroductionAcute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which appeared in 2019, has been classified as critical and non-critical according to clinical signs and symptoms. Critical patients require mechanical ventilation and intensive care unit (ICU) admission, whereas non-critical patients require neither mechanical ventilation nor ICU admission. Several factors have been recently identified as effective factors, including blood cell count, enzymes, blood markers, and underlying diseases. By comparing blood markers, comorbidities, co-infections, and their relationship with mortality, we sought to determine differences between critical and non-critical groups.MethodWe used Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases for our systematic search. Inclusion criteria include any report describing the clinical course of COVID-19 patients and showing the association of the COVID-19 clinical courses with blood cells, blood markers, and bacterial co-infection changes. Twenty-one publications were eligible for full-text examination between 2019 to 2021.ResultThe standard difference in WBC, lymphocyte, and platelet between the two clinical groups was 0.538, -0.670, and -0.421, respectively. Also, the standard difference between the two clinical groups of CRP, ALT, and AST was 0.482, 0.402, and 0.463, respectively. The odds ratios for hypertension and diabetes were significantly different between the two groups. The prevalence of co-infection also in the critical group is higher.ConclusionIn conclusion, our data suggest that critical patients suffer from a suppressed immune system, and the inflammation level, the risk of organ damage, and co-infections are significantly high in the critical group and suggests the use of bacteriostatic instead of bactericides to treat co-infections.

Abstract Background Thyroid cancer (TC) is the predominant malignancy within the endocrine system. However, the standard method for TC diagnosis lacks the capability to identify the pathological condition of all thyroid lesions. The metabolomics approach has the potential to manage this problem by identifying differential metabolites. Aims This study conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis of the NMR‐based metabolomics studies in order to identify significant altered metabolites associated with TC. Methods A systematic search of published literature in any language in three databases including Embase, PubMed, and Scopus was conducted. Out of 353 primary articles, 12 studies met the criteria for inclusion in the systematic review. Among these, five reports belonging to three articles were eligible for meta‐analysis. The correlation coefficient of the orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis, a popular model in the multivariate statistical analysis of metabolomic data, was chosen for meta‐analysis. The altered metabolites were chosen based on the fact that they had been found in at least three studies. Results In total, 49 compounds were identified, 40 of which were metabolites. The increased metabolites in thyroid lesions compared normal samples included lactate, taurine, alanine, glutamic acid, glutamine, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, serine, tyrosine, valine, choline, glycine, and isoleucine. Lipids were the decreased compounds in thyroid lesions. Lactate and alanine were increased in malignant versus benign thyroid lesions, while, myo‐inositol, scyllo‐inositol, citrate, choline, and phosphocholine were found to be decreased. The meta‐analysis yielded significant results for three metabolites of lactate, alanine, and citrate in malignant versus benign specimens. Discussion In this study, we provided a concise summary of 12 included metabolomic studies, making it easier for future researchers to compare their results with the prior findings. Conclusion It appears that the field of TC metabolomics will experience notable advancement, leading to the discovery of trustworthy diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.

Introduction: Keratoacanthoma (KA) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are two cutaneous conditions with morphological resemblance, which can complicate the diagnosis in some cases. Using immunohistochemistry staining of biomarkers could be beneficial in resolving this obstacle. Objectives: we investigated a variety of biomarkers assessed in different studies in order to find the most important and helpful biomarkers for differentiation between SCC and lesions capable of spontaneous regression. Methods: PubMed medical literature and Google Scholar database were used to identify relevant literature up to 15 June 2022. The aim of our analyses was to determine the capability of biomarkers to distinguish SCC from lesions capable of spontaneous regression using calculated individual and pooled OR and 95% CI and I2 tests. Results: Six potential biomarkers are CD10 with pooled OR= 0.006 (95% CI 0.001 to 0.057) and I2=0%; COX-2 with pooled OR=0.089 (95% CI 0.029 to 0.269) and I2=17.1%; Elastic Fibers with pooled OR= 6.69 (95% CI 2.928 to 15.281) and I2=0%; IMP-3 with pooled OR=0.145 (95% CI 0.021 to 1.001) and I2=44.5%; P53 with pooled OR=0.371 (95% CI 0.188 to 0.733) and I2=55.9%; AT1R with OR=0.026 (95% CI 0.006 to 0.107). Conclusions: We suggest the utilization of the following IHC biomarkers for discrimination between lesions with spontaneous regression such as KA and SCC: CD10, COX-2, and Elastic Fibers.

Reverb-Resonate: Sounding the Affective Frequencies of Migration operates at the intersection of art, science, and technology to articulate an emotional landscape of migration and exile. Rooted in the methodology of research-creation (RC) and grounded in the interdisciplinary field of Art, Science, and Technology Studies (ASTS), the project transcends conventional disciplinary boundaries to offer speculative possibilities through human-machine listening. Drawing on the body is an already augmented site, the project makes audible physiological sensors that capture micro-level intricacies responsible for stress regulation. Listening, is, thus, foregrounded as the core public engagement strategy, creating a layered sound collage that interweaves somatic registers of recorded breathing samples and physiological sensor values with machine listening to recreate new forms of sound. Engagement with ASTS is, hence, in the form of a method that traverses transforming sensor application, generating technicized sound and composing an acoustic experience capable of affective engagement. Through machine learning—a subfield of artificial intelligence—the notion of ‘machine listening’ extends beyond human hearing limitations, introducing non-normative structures to challenge and expand habitual forms of human listening. Reverb-Resonate, hence, leverages artistic strategies and techno-augmentations to address the crisis of imagination that hinders opening up to realities far from the familiar and the personal to imagine ‘what could be’ as a way of future-making. It underscores the critical edge of RC and ASTS in addressing complex critical issues, proposing a speculative space where the human-machine hybrid puts forth a socio-technical assemblage of listening to understand 'otherly' experiences. The project, thus, advances a critical inquiry into the mediation and augmentation of listening to imagine new possibilities for embodied engagement with unfamiliar emotional spaces and experiences.

Tinea capitis is a chronic fungal infection of the scalp occurring commonly in children of school age, especially in developing countries. It is caused primarily by the dermatophyte members of genera Microsporum and Trichophyton. Here we report presence of free-living mycelial stage of dermatophytes, a stage of fungal growth which form in culture medias, around affected hairs and skin scrapings of scalp lesions in a 3-year-old boy presenting with alopecia and multiple scaly, non-erythematous plaques. On direct microscopy examination using 10 % potassium hydroxide, the fungal hyphae and arthrospores were detected in ectothrix form. In addition, we also observed numerous multicellular, thick-walled spindle-shaped macroconidia around hairs and skin scrapings. To our knowledge this is the first study reporting dermatophyte's macroconidia directly seen on clinical samples. Species level identification of the dermatophyte isolate growing on Mycosel™ agar was confirmed by PCR-sequencing of internal transcribed spacer of ribosomal RNA as Microsporum ferrugineum. The patient was successfully treated with systemic itraconazole combined with topical ketoconazole shampoo.
