The December 1973 Plenum of the CPSU Central Committee posed particularly sharply the question of strengthening the discipline of plan enforcement and improving management of the economy, especially capital construction. Experience persuasively demonstrates that, given a creative approach to the matter and a persistent introduction of the Party style of work, it is possible to achieve considerable successes in this. The journal Sovety deputatov trudiashchikhsia (1974, No. 5) already described the essence of the Orel method of paced completion of housing and urban-improvement construction projects. Recently, the CPSU Central Committee approved the positive experience accumulated in Orel, which has made possible significant improvement in the efficiency of construction. The resolution adopted recommends that it be employed as widely as possible.

Electrochemical dissolution of highly doped (ρ ∼ 1 mΩ·cm, n-type) polycrystalline 3C-SiC in HF/H2O and HF/H2O/ethanol solutions allowed production of porous silicon carbide (por-SiC) and soluble carbon fluorooxide nanoparticles as a byproduct. The por-SiC is a crystalline material with large pore volume, surface area close to 100 m2 g–1, and open mesoporous structure. The surface of por-SiC is covered with a thin carbon-enriched layer, bearing carboxylic acid groups. Depending on the SiC resistivity, etchant composition, and current density, three different types of por-SiC morphology, namely, a macroporous tubular, mesoporous hierarchical, and mesoporous filamentary were revealed. A qualitative physical model of SiC electrochemical dissolution, based on the phenomena of quantum confinement, charge carriers trapping onto the surface defects, and the surface passivation, was proposed, and the model successfully interpreted the dependencies of por-SiC morphology and material balance on the etching condition...

The article is concerned with the methods used in the diagnosis of thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery. It is based on the experience in the examination of 160 patients admitted to the clinic with suspected pulmonary embolism, in 134 of whom the diagnosis was confirmed. The diagnostic possibilities of noncontrast X-ray examination of the lungs, electrocardio- and rheopneumography, catheterization of the heart and angiopneumography, and perfusion scan of the lungs are appraised.

Ultrasonic scanning was used in 115 patients with suspected occlusion of vena cava inferior. Details of ultrasonic diagnosis of non-occlusive and occlusive thrombosis of vena cava inferior and vena cava compression from the outside, monitoring of the thrombosed vena cava and the antiembolic cava filter are discussed.

Analysis of the results of using fibrinolysis activators in 196 patients with massive embolism of the pulmonary arteries was undertaken to choose the optimum method of thrombolytic therapy. High doses of fibrinolysis activators (from 5,000,000 to 7,000,000 U) were used in 127 cases and low doses (from 125,000 to 3,000,000 U) in combination with heparin and disaggregating agents in the remaining 69 cases. A cava-filter was implanted in 161 patients before beginning treatment. Obvious advantages of thrombolytic therapy of massive pulmonary embolism with high doses of fibrinolysis activators were revealed in the process of treatment. They consist in quicker restoration of continuity of the pulmonary arteries, which leads to rapid removal of hypertension in pulmonary circulation and reduction of the number of deaths from acute cardiopulmonary failure. Treatment with such doses does not lead to an increase of the number of hemorrhagic complications, which makes possible surgical prevention of recurrent pulmonary embolism by cava-filter implantation.

107 patients were explored using a radioisotope method. An acute thrombosis of the lower extremities veins postoperatively developed in 71 of them (66.3%). The radioisotope method is considered to be a simple and safe method for early diagnosis of the postoperative venous thrombosis.

A draft scheme for classification of pleurisy is described. It includes (1) pleurisy form, (2) qualitative characteristics of pleural exudate, (3) pleurisy topography, (4) etiology, (5) clinical characteristics of the pleurisy process, (6) residual postpleuritic lesions and (7) functional disorders in the lungs and heart. Brief comments on the classification system are presented.

By the method of ultrasound scanning, 56 patients were examined at the early and 115 patients at the late period after the percutaneous implantation of a cava-filter. Ultrasound scanning was performed in the cross and longitudinal section planes. In 28 patients, the embolic occlusion of the cava-filter was revealed, in 19-thrombosis of infrarenal inferior vena cava (IVC). Neither migration of the cava-filter, nor damage to the IVC wall was revealed. Ultrasound scanning permits to define the thickness of the IVC wall at the zone of the implanted filter.

The article deals with chronic pulmonary hypertension consequent upon thromboembolism of the pulmonary artery. From experience gained in the treatment of 15 patients 4 of whom underwent operation, the authors discuss the pathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic postembolic pulmonary hypertension.
