The inclusion of scientific journals in prestigious indexers is often associated with higher citation rates; journals included in such indexers are significantly more acknowledged than those that are not included in them. This phenomenon refers to the Matthew effect on journal citations, according to which journals in exclusive rankings tend to be increasingly cited. This paper shows the opposite: that the inclusion of journals in local indexers ruled by inclusive logic reduces the Matthew effect on journal citations since it enables them to be equally exposed. Thus, we based our arguments on the comparison of 68 Brazilian journals before and after they were indexed in the Scientific Periodicals Electronic Library (Spell), which ranks journals in the Brazilian management field based on local citations. Citation impact indicators and iGini (a new individual inequality analysis measure) were used to show that the inclusion of journals in Spell has probably increased their impact factor and decreased their citation inequality rates. Using a difference-in-differences model with continuous treatment, the results indicated that the effect between ranking and inequality declined after journals were included in Spell. Additional robustness checks through event study models and interrupted time-series analysis for panel data point to a reduction in citation inequality but follow different trajectories for the 2- and 5-year impact. The results indicate that the indexer has reduced the Matthew effect on journal citations.

Little attention has been devoted to whether the impact factor (IF) can be considered a responsible metric in light of bibliodiversity. This article critically engages with this question in measuring the following variables of IF journals included in the 2021 Journal Citation Reports™ and examining their distribution: publishing models (hybrid, open access (OA) with or without fees, subscription), world regions, language(s) of publication, subject categories, publishers and the prices of article processing charges (APCs) if any. Our results show that the quest for prestige or perceived quality through the IF brand poses serious threats to bibliodiversity. The IF brand can indeed hardly be considered a responsible metric insofar as it perpetuates publishing concentration, maintains a domination of the Global North and its attendant artificial image of mega producer of scholarly content, does not promote linguistic diversity, and does not incentivize fair and equitable open access by entrenching fee-based OA delivery options with rather high APCs.

The growing importance and rising influence of the IJPR in its fields of research is mirrored in its ever-growing number of citations, its large number of authors and author affiliated countries/regions and institutions. By comparing the IJPR with its top peer journals, we have demonstrated an ever-improving status of the IJPR over the years when measured against the performance of the top peer journals in the same period. Objectives: There is a world of information at our disposal, and it is increasingly difficult to transform this dull amount of data into knowledge. How to be constantly actualized? This study aims to create an altmetric list of the top 50 articles related to COVID-19 and oral health. Methods: Research of terms COVID-19 and oral health was done using Dimensions app. Results were ranked in altmetric citations and analyzed through Microsoft Excel. Some tables and graphics were created. Graphical illustration of keywords was created using VOSviewer. Results: Some interesting facts can be seen, like growing interest in dental aerosols, perspectives, and virucidal activity of some mouthwashes. Conclusions: Altmetric analysis is a helpful manner to scientific updates, supplementing bibliometric analysis. A terrific manner to see trends. The scientific community goes to great lengths to solve problems with dental aerosols, particularly to reduce contamination. Some adjustments to dental office and the use of barriers are recommended.

The complex APC operation mechanism of open access (OA) journal is generating discussion in the academic community. To understand the prices of APC, this study explored whether APC pricing in medicine is related to journal-related characteristics and journal influence-related indicators. In all,47 medicine-related fields in JCR-SCIE 2017 were collected, among which 3,420 journals had published OA articles and 2,037 OA journals were analyzed, which removal of duplicate titles and picking out fixed APC prices. Results showed that APCs and journal age were not significantly correlated; journals established earlier may have charged lower APCs than those established later. Overall, the majority of OA journals charged approximately US$3,000.APCs and publication frequency were positively correlated, APCs increased with publication frequency. APCs and the number of articles published were negatively correlated, perhaps because hybrid OA journals published fewer articles but charged higher APCs. Regarding journal influence, IF and II values were significantly correlated with APCs. With respect to rankings, for journals ranked in Q1 and Q4, correlations between ranking and APC were significant. This study suggests that future may use questionnaires or conduct in-depth interviews to gain insight into why authors submitted articles to OA journals, their willingness to submit the articles and how prices they were willing to pay in APCs.

The openness and resilience of the global research placed new terms in the post-pandemic academic world. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, a wide variety of scientific articles and research literature have been published in a short period. COVID-19 related research papers in the social sciences focused on the impact of the new disease on social, behavioral or economic outcomes. This paper aimed to explore and understand what the impact and which topics are covered in the papers about COVID-19 in Romanian social sciences ISI journals. As such, the approach highlights that performing the query by the term “covid” in seven Romanian journals indexed in the social sciences ISI database, Amfiteatru Economic registered the highest impact in terms of the number of citations per article. Moreover, most of the papers covering topics on COVID-19 were published in 2021, compared to the previous and current year. The findings also show that journals with a higher AIS and IF have a higher share of cited articles. Results presented in this study, identify as well, the word cloud diagrams for the covered topics in the title of the papers. In such regard, the most frequent words in the corpus made of titles of cited papers are teleworking, workaholism. For the uncited papers, the results suggest that more general terms are frequent

The article discusses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on scientific publishing, specifically in the field of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine. The number of articles related to COVID-19 increased significantly in 2020 and 2021, but has since declined as attention has shifted back to traditional research topics. The impact factor (IF) of many scientific medical journals, including Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM), reached an all-time high in 2021 but has since decreased. Despite this, CCLM remains a leading journal in the field and maintains a high rejection rate, indicating the continued publication of high-quality articles. [Extracted from the article]

This “opinion article” presents the “dialogue”, namely the series of questions addressed to chatGPT and its outputs, on the question of citation index and other metrics associated with scientific publication. The AI is asked to explain basic quantities (citation index, impact factor of journals, h-index, etc) and through different questions, to give outputs on different important problems, mainly related with citation index and its biases. The AI clearly expresses that the citation index alone should not be used for evaluation purposes, and is led to predict that in certain situations a high quality scientific article would be with a low citation index. The AI also replies that the citation index depends on several factors in a complex way, and is probably not defined in an unambiguous way from a mathematical point of view, but it appears unable to explain evolutions in the field of informetrics that occurred following issues with citation index. The article concludes that the citation index is irrelevant as it is not normalized and strongly depends on the publishing journal and databases, and that it is potentially dangerous for science.

The paper aims to detect publication contributions of editorial board members (EBMs) to academic journal ranking as exemplified by Russian LIS serials divided into three groups according to their authority. To reveal the EBMs' contribution in each group, papers by EBMs in their parent journals as well as other sources were studied with comparative analyses of EBMs' papers in parent journals and papers by other authors in the same journals. The Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) was used for collecting indicators that reflect journal ranks and scholarly output of EBMs. We found no relationship between journal ranking and a share of EBMs' papers in a parent journal. Citation analyses of EBMs' papers as well as citations of parent journals made by EBMs from other sources reveals a significant effect of EBMs on the rank of top-tiered and low-tiered journals pointing at active participation of EBMs in the development of parent journals. Zero or even negative impact of EBMs' papers on the journal rank is registered in the middle-tiered group implying formalistic engagement of researchers to join the editorial boards, lack of interest in the journal work, or possible violation of the publication ethics by publishing poorly cited or uncited papers in parent journals due to less strict peer-review processes. The paper adds to a better understanding of the nature of journal ranking, particularly, impact factors, as well as performance of EBMs in the field of LIS publications. The ethics and possible conflict of interests related to publishing in parent journals are discussed. Objective: To determine the impact of different specialized family issues journals indexed in Scopus according to SJR database from 1999 to 2018. Methodology: The selected journals were categorized according to their content in four groups: "medical" journals that publish family health or reproductive health issues; "social" journals that address the family from a legal, historical or sociological perspective; "psychological" journals that publish family issues from the clinical, social or educational psychology perspective; and the group of "financial or economic" journals that address the family from its consumption habits, family economy or business strategies. To determine its impact, this study assesses: the SJR prestige measurement factor, the H index and the number of citations per document in the last two years using the R software version 3.6.1 through the sjrdata version 0.2.0 package. Results: In general terms, the most ranked journals are those in the social area. Likewise, the medical areas host the largest number of journals. On the other hand, the United States and the United Kingdom account for approximately 50% of family magazines in the world. Conclusions: Through this research, various researchers specialized in the area of family will be able to identify the most eligible journals to publish considering their reputation and academic impact. The authors analyze leading management journals of the Academy of Management (the Academy of Management Journal, the Academy of Management Review, the Academy of Management Learning and Education, and the Academy of Management Perspectives, as well as the Journal of Management), collecting and analyzing information on the managerial research assessment tool of impact factor (IF) during two time periods—from 1997 through 2005 and from 2006 through 2019. The authors capture the changing nature of journal strategies, examining the number of references, self-citations, and cross-citations. The study shows a general increase in the number of references used, as well as self-citations and cross-citations, resulting in a corresponding IF gain. The evidence suggests some limitations to adopting performance metrics in academia. The use of bibliometric indicators in research evaluation has a series of complex impacts on academic inquiry. These systems have gradually spread into a wide range of locations and disciplines, including the humanities. The aim of this study is to examine their effects as perceived by philosophy and ethics researchers in Spain, a country where bibliometric indicators have long been used to evaluate research. The study uses a mixed approach combining quantitative and qualitative data from a self-administered questionnaire completed by 201 researchers and from 14 in-depth interviews with researchers selected according to their affiliation, professional category, gender, and area of knowledge. Results show that the evaluation system is widely perceived to affect university researchers in significant ways, particularly related to publication habits (document type and publication language), the transformation of research agendas and the neglect of teaching work, as well as increasing research misconduct and negatively affecting mental health. Social media can help scientific journals to disseminate and increase the social and scientific reach and impact of their publications. With this goal, the journal Biological Invasions has been active on Facebook and Twitter since 2017. Here, we assess for the first time the performance of Biological Invasions' Facebook and Twitter accounts. Twitter is the most widely used channel by scientists. Accordingly, scientists were the main followers of Biological Invasions' Twitter account. The number and geographical diversity of followers and the number of times Biological Invasions was mentioned in social networks were much higher on Twitter than on Facebook. However, Biological Invasions' Facebook account reaches users from different geographical areas than its Twitter account does (i.e., most followers of Biological Invasions' Facebook account were located in Europe and South America, while most followers on Twitter were located in Europe and North America). Certain geographical areas (e.g., Africa, Asia, and Central America) were poorly represented among social media followers on both accounts. Social media activities did not affect the number of reads or citations of Biological Invasions' scientific publications. However, being active on social media is likely to increase the social and scientific impact of the journal and to improve diversity and inclusivity of its scientific publications. Purpose: The rise of New Public Management has created a need for indicators to evaluate scientific performance. This study introduces a novel metric that combines impact factor and citation rate to measure individual scientific output. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology used in this study is Bayesian shrinkage estimation. Findings: The proposed Bayesian citation indicator combines impact factor and citation rate into a single metric, providing a weighted-average measure of scientific impact over the remaining lifespan of a published article. It also considers the uncertainty associated with future citation rates. Conclusions: This study presents a new approach to assessing individual scientific output. The objectives of this study were to determine the degree of citation skew in otolaryngology journals and how article citation distribution affects their impact factors (IFs). Forty‐one "otorhinolaryngology" journals in the Clarivate Journal Citation Reports database were identified and their article citation data from 2017 to 2020 extracted. Article citation frequency was remarkably similar across most journals, consistent with the narrow distribution of IFs (mean [SD], 1.9 [0.9]). Although the percentage of a journal's articles cited more than its IF during the IF citation window (mean [SD] of 32.4% [7.9%] of journals' articles)—reflecting citation skew—was not correlated with IF, the percentage of a journal's articles that were cited at least once (mean [SD] of 62.5% [15.3%] of articles) was highly correlated (ρ = 0.92, P <.001) with its IF. Although citation skew exists, otolaryngology journals' overall portfolios of published works—not a small number of highly cited articles causing citation skew—likely predominate their IFs. Background: & Purpose: The Irish Otolaryngology Society (IOS) conference takes place annually. This conference allows surgeons and surgical trainees from Ireland and abroad an opportunity to showcase research ideas from their respective centres. This allows them to disseminate results, accept critique, and obtain different perspectives. We sought to examine research presented at the IOS meetings over 20 years. We aimed to analyse the publication rates, impact factor of journals, and citation rates of presented abstracts.Methods: All oral presentations from IOS conferences were analysed between 2000 and 2019. Presentation titles and authors were searched using Pubmed, Google Scholar and Research Gate. We identified scientific publications which resulted from the research presented and the characteristics of each publication.Results: Of 703 presentations made at the conferences spanning 20 years, 30.15% (n = 212) went on to publish their research averaging 19 citations per publication. Median time to publication was 2 years (-1-11). Each year there have been an increasing number of oral presentations with a declining publication rate.Conclusion: The Irish otolaryngology society meeting is a high-quality meeting with comparable publication rates to similar international conferences. Despite this, many presentations do not have any lasting impact as they are not published. The increasing pressure for trainees to rapidly present research projects without emphasis on completion of projects may explain the declining publication rate. Our study highlights the importance of completing high-quality research projects through publication. Surface temperature is one of the most basic requirements for the biosphere's existence on earth. Hence, to evaluate urban ecoenvironmental quality, investigating the characteristics of the spatial and temporal surface temperature is essential. In this study, multisource spatial data were used to invert Urumqi's surface temperature over a large time span. Characteristics of spatial pattern of the surface temperature were quantitatively analyzed using a spatial autocorrelation and standard deviation ellipse. A geo-detector model was used to determine the correlation between the surface temperature and 10 influencing factors. Urumqi's surface temperature exhibited a significant geographical heterogeneity from 2000 to 2019, such that a clear heat island effect was observed in the city. From 2000 to 2010, sub-high temperature, high temperature, and severe high-temperature centroids changed 30° to the northwest; whereas from 2010 to 2019, the temperature centroid shifted 13° to the southwest. Among all the factors, the impervious surface has greatest impact on the urban heat island effect in Urumqi. The relationship between the impervious surface and other parameters was the most visible in the interaction detection. In the different land use categories, building land exhibited the highest average surface temperature. Compared with other studies, this study considers the influence of natural and human factors on urban heat island effect more comprehensively, and also quantitatively analyzes the difference of different land use types on urban heat island effect, which makes up for the defects of previous qualitative analysis. The impact factor of scientific journals and the h-index depend on the citations. Therefore, the citation analysis is a very important part of scientometrics. The paper presents the 2022 ranking list of citation analysis researchers. The ranking is presented primarily according to the h-index of researchers. The advantage the h-index is that it combines both the quantity - number of articles and quality - citations to these articles. A researcher cannot have a high h-index without publishing a considerable number of articles. The h-index favors researchers that publish a continuous stream of articles. Researchers with the same h-index are ranked by the number of citations. The minimum h-index of the 10 ranked researchers is 26. h-index can be determined from the following online databases: Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar and the Publish or Perish program. Purpose – Despite the general recommendation of using a combination of multiple criteria for research assessment and faculty promotion decisions, the raise of quantitative indicators is generating an emerging trend in Business Schools to use single journal impact factors (IFs) as key (unique) drivers for those relevant school decisions. This paper aims to investigate the effects of using single Web of Science (WoS)-based journal impact metrics when assessing research from two related disciplines: Business and Economics, and its potential impact for the strategic sustainability of a Business School. Design/methodology/approach – This study collected impact indicators data for Business and Economics journals from the Clarivate Web of Science database. We concentrated on the IF indicators, the Eigenfactor and the article influence score (AIS). This study examined the correlations between these indicators and then ranked disciplines and journals using these different impact metrics. Findings – Consistent with previous findings, this study finds positive correlations among these metrics. Then this study ranks the disciplines and journals using each impact metric, finding relevant and substantial differences, depending on the metric used. It is found that using AIS instead of the IF raises the relative ranking of Economics, while Business remains basically with the same rank. Research limitations/implications – This study contributes to the research assessment literature by adding substantial evidence that given the sensitivity of journal rankings to particular indicators, the selection of a single impact metric for assessing research and hiring/promotion and tenure decisions is risky and too simplistic. This research shows that biases may be larger when assessment involves researchers from related disciplines – like Business and Economics – but with different research foundations and traditions. Practical implications – Consistent with the literature, given the sensibility of journal rankings to particular indicators, the selection of a single impact metric for assessing research, assigning research funds and hiring/promotion and tenure decisions is risky and simplistic. However, this research shows that risks and biases may be larger when assessment involves researchers from related disciplines – like Business and Economics – but with different research foundations and trajectories. The use of multiple criteria is advised for such purposes. Originality/value – This is an applied work using real data from WoS that addresses a practical case of comparing the use of different journal IFs to rank-related disciplines like Business and Economics, with important implications for faculty tenure and promotion committees and for research funds granting institutions and decision-makers.

Girders with corrugated steel webs (CSWs), replacing traditional concrete webs in prestressed concrete box girders, exhibit a unique dynamic behavior due to the accordion effect and the thinner dimension of CSWs. The study aims to investigate the dynamic response of girder bridges with CSWs under moving loads. Utilizing the Timoshenko beam theory and modal analysis method, the analytical formula for the dynamic response, considering shear deformation and rotational inertia, was developed. The proposed analytical formula was validated through finite element simulation. Employing dimensionless parameters, a parametric analysis was conducted to examine the effects of multi-modes, loading position and shear deformation on the dynamic response of girders with CSWs. The results highlight the significant influence of the shear parameter α S and the speed parameter S E1 on the magnitude of the impact factor. Precise calculations for deflection and bending moment only require consideration of low-order modes, whereas accurate estimation of shear force requires attention to higher-order modes. In particular, a high-frequency resonance phenomenon is identified when the speed parameter S E1 and the shear parameter α S conform to the formula "π S E1 α S = 1". The suggested impact factor formulas for midpoint deflection, midpoint bending moment and end shear force have been developed and categorized into three groups based on the magnitude of the shear parameter α S. Against the backdrop of global climate change and the "dual carbon" target, cities have a significant responsibility to achieve carbon reduction targets. As a crucial urban agglomeration in northern China, effectively balancing economic growth with CO 2 emission reduction to achieve high-quality economic development remains a significant challenge that the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region should address both presently and in the future. The objective of this study is to utilize nighttime lighting data and energy consumption information to quantify the CO 2 emissions of diverse cities within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region spanning from 2006 to 2020. The research aims to analyze the spatial progression patterns of CO 2 emissions across these urban centers, identify key determinants and their interrelations, and delve into the underlying mechanisms pivotal for advancing carbon mitigation strategies within urban agglomerations. The results indicate that: with an exception in Beijing where CO 2 emissions slightly decreased compared to 2006, CO 2 emissions increased across cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region by 2020. High-value CO 2 emission areas are primarily concentrated in central of the study area, exhibiting negative spatial correlation characteristics. Based on its urban development positioning, it is imperative for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration to formulate and implement carbon reduction strategies on innovative development, industrial upgrading, and ecological protection among other aspects towards coordinated low-carbon development. Our study aimed to determine the current percentage of gender and sex equity promoting (GSEP) radiology journals, defined as satisfying at least one criterion of the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) checklist, published by the European Association of Science Editors (EASE). A secondary objective was to compare characteristics of GSEP and non-GSEP journals. A cross-sectional analysis between June 24 and July 3, 2023, was conducted. The author submission guidelines of radiology journals with a 2021 Journal Impact Factor (JIF) were assessed according to the SAGER checklist. GSEP journals were defined as satisfying one or more SAGER checklist criteria in their research instructions. Bibliometric data and journal information were collected from the Journal Citation Reports and National Library of Medicine catalogue. Only 39.7 % (52) of 132 journals satisfied at least one SAGER checklist criterion. Median 2021 JIFs were higher in GSEP journals (4.62, IQR: 3.73 – 5.21) than non-GSEP journals (2.70, IQR: 2.32) (p = 0.00). Median 2021 Journal Citation Index (JCI) scores were higher in GSEP (0.64, 0.56 – 0.73) than non-GSEP journals (0.97, 0.83 – 1.10) (p = 0.00). Cited half-life was shorter for GSEP (5.40, 4.80 – 6.50) than non-GSEP journals (6.70, 5.70 – 7.40) (p = 0.05). Elsevier published 33 of 52 of GSEP journals. 60.3% of radiology journals with a 2021 JIF do not meet a single SAGER checklist criterion in their author submission guidelines. GSEP journals had higher impact and source metrics and a shorter cited half-life. ObjectiveTo analyze the status and correlated factors of social support for people with rare diseases in China.MethodsWe conducted an internet- or telephone-based survey among 1 771 self-reported rare disease patients recruited with snow balling sampling during February 2016 in China. The Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey – Chinese Version (MOS-SSS) was applied to measure the social support for the patients. Descriptive statistics and linear regression were employed in data analysis.ResultsThe total score of social support for the patients was 60.37 ± 18.23 and domain scores were 13.40 ± 4.12 for tangible support, 22.99 ± 7.89 for emotional/informational support, 8.42 ± 3.11 for positive social interaction, 8.87 ± 3.21 for affectionate support, and 6.69 ± 1.92 for additional items, respectively. The results of multivariate stepwise linear regression analysis demonstrated that the rare disease patients being married, retired, and being a student were more likely to have a strong social support; while, those at elder age, with the education of primary school and below, unemployed, living in rural regions, and with disease complication were more likely to have a weak social support.ConclusionIn China, the social support for rare disease patients is at a low level and associated with the patients′ age, education, marital status, occupation, residence, and whether having complicated disease.

The bibliometric analysis was conducted to evaluate the publication characteristics of Journal of Dental Sciences (JDS) from ScienceDirect Online between 2009 and 2020. The most common published article type in JDS was original articles. The top four highest number of published articles were related to oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontology, endodontology, and oral pathology. The most productive geographic region for articles was Asia. Taiwan ranked in the highest country in terms of successful publication in JDS. The impact factor of JDS ranged from 0.107 in 2009 to 2.080 in 2020. As compared with years between 2009 and 2014, there was a significant increase in impact factor during 2015–2020 (P = 0.026). By this bibliometric analysis, JDS needs to attract more audience outside the Asia to gain the higher international influence.

Medicine is an ever-changing science, and the pace of this change has been rapid in recent years. A researcher in an academic institution is now obliged to publish their research work for career advancement with recognition, access to grants, fellowships, etc., as secondary objectives. Besides, it is paramount for anyone engaging in active clinical practice to remain up to date with recent advances in the field. Hence, it is the author's responsibility to publish authentic data with integrity as it helps modulate opinions on a wide platform globally in today's digital age. While the pressure to publish is immense, it is vital to have a system of checks and balances before publishing and adhere to good research practices because a wrong step may bring lasting discredit to the authors. This article attempts to provide an overview for novice researchers regarding how to select an appropriate journal for publication, evaluate it in view of its reach and relevance, and how to avoid predatory journals. The article also briefly outlines the various databases available, peer-review process, important journal metrics such as impact factor and indexing, and the concept of open access in a simple language to enable young authors to select the best journal for publishing their work.

Abstract Purpose To examine a series of papers from top ranked orthopaedic journals with respect to the number of citations over a 10‐year observation period to identify factors that lead to high citation rates. Methods The Web of Science database was consulted to identify all published papers from the first‐year term of 2010 (January‐May) from four top orthopaedic journals: AJSM, Arthroscopy, JBJS Am and KSSTA. The database was used to analyze and compare the papers with respect to their characteristics and citations up to 2019. Basic information for each paper was collected including the author, country, study type and average citations per year (ACY). The most (Top20%) and least (Bottom20%) frequently cited papers were identified and differences were extracted. Results Five hundred sixteen papers were included with a total of 19,261 citations. Most of the published papers were from the United States (n = 245). On average, a paper received 37.3 citations over the 10‐year observation period. The most cited paper was cited 322 times. The most cited study type was randomized controlled trial (RCT) (Ø80.8). The Top20% papers were cited 37 times more often than the Bottom20%. Among the Top20%, the largest group was cohort study (n = 20) followed by case series (n = 19). Scientific publishing has seen many changes in its ~350 years of existence. Nonetheless, the changes currently underway may be among the most radical. The five major biogeography journals (Diversity and Distributions, Ecography, Frontiers of Biogeography, Global Ecology and Biogeography, and Journal of Biogeography) are indicative of the major undercurrents in publishing today: two are society owned, three are owned by a private publisher; two are open access, three are reader-pays; four are published by a for‐profit publisher, one is not; three are double-blind review, two are the traditional single blind. Despite these differences, we serve as editors-in-chief for these journals for one common reason: to make sure there is a healthy publishing ecosystem available to communicate biogeographical research. With that goal in mind, here, we provide a brief potted history of scientific publishing to contextualize the modern publishing environment. We consider what current trends may mean for the future of scientific publishing. And we highlight a suite of factors that we recommend be considered when choosing a venue in which to publish your research. We particularly wish to emphasize one point: while editors-in-chief may guide journals, and editors and reviewers shape the science that is published, all journals depend ultimately on the manuscripts that authors choose to submit. For this reason, authors have great power over the future of the publishing landscape. To ensure a healthy landscape, we feel it is critical that all authors—but especially we senior and mid-career authors—are educated about today’s complex world of publication and make informed choices about where to submit, which signals to publishers the criteria that our community values. Authors’ choices now have potential to shape a sustainable publishing environment that better serves current and future generations of biogeographers.

Summary: The impact factor is used to rank the quality of scientific journals but has been criticised for a number of reasons. The aim of the study was to investigate sleep researchers' perceptions of sleep journals to determine whether subjective rankings of journals were in line with the journals' impact factors. Clarivate's Journal Citation Reports website was used to identify journals containing the words 'sleep' or 'dream' in the titles with an impact factor since 2018, resulting in 12 journals. A survey including questions about how the respondent would rank these journals (e.g., three most prestigious journals) was developed. A total of 122 sleep researchers completed the survey. Sleep, Sleep Medicine Reviews and Journal of Sleep Research were ranked as the three most prestigious sleep journals, in line with the impact factors of the journals. The Three-River Headwaters Region (TRHR) is an important part of the ecological barrier of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. Understanding the TRHR's major ecosystem service trade-offs and synergies is important for scientifically integrating and optimizing ecosystem services. We studied the spatial–temporal changes, trade-offs and synergies of the TRHR's water retention (WR), soil retention (SR), windbreak and sand fixation (WD) and forage supply (FS) services from 2000 to 2019. The results showed that: (1) The TRHR's WR, SR and FS services gradually decreased from east to west in space, and showed an increasing trend between years; the WD service gradually decreased from west to east in space, and showed a downward trend between years. (2) The synergistic relationship was the dominant relationship between the TRHR's grassland regulation and provision services. Future research on ecosystem service trade-offs and synergies should consider both the type of ecosystem services and the ecosystem's multifunctionality. (3) The improvement of the TRHR's ecosystem services in the future needs to focus on improving the fraction vegetation coverage (FVC) through ecological engineering measures in Maduo, and other areas near the 400 mm precipitation line, and enhancing the synergy of ecosystem services. (4) The restoration of TRHR FVC needs to consider the difference in natural endowments. It is recommended to adopt near-natural restoration in the northwest of the TRHR, and avoid setting too high restoration targets. Planting high-quality pastures in the southeast of the TRHR with good water and heat conditions and rationally allocating grassland ecological and production functions are recommended measures. (5) The TRHR's grassland should give priority to the development of the ecological functions of natural grasslands, and then give full play to its production functions. In order to evaluate the dynamic response of common continuous girder bridges under vehicle-bridge coupling in detail, this paper uses numerical simulation method to establish the finite element model of five-span continuous girder bridges with general drawings of bridges and culverts, and analyzes its dynamic responses under vehicle loads: deflection, stress. The corresponding dynamic amplification factor is calculated, and the variation law of dynamic amplification factor under the influence of vehicle frequency, bridge frequency and disturbance frequency is compared. The research shows that the fundamental frequency of the continuous beam bridge in the general drawing is 4. 44 Hz. When the vehicle frequency is close to the fundamental frequency of the bridge, the resonance effect will be produced and a larger dynamic amplification factor will be produced. The variation law and numerical value of the dynamic amplification factor at the middle position of the middle span and the middle position of the secondary side span obtained from the calculation are close to each other, but there are some differences with the dynamic amplification factor at the middle position of the side span, which shows that the structure with one end simply supported at the side span has a great influence on the dynamic amplification factor here. Vehicle frequency, bridge frequency and driving disturbance frequency all affect the dynamic amplification factor, so the impact coefficient in the bridge specification is only a function of the fundamental frequency of the bridge, which is far from the reality and needs to be improved. Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the publication delays and correlative factors of peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals. Methods: The ophthalmology journals listed in the Journal Citation Report 2020 were retrieved from the Web of Science database. The first original research article of each journal issue from January to December 2020 was extracted, and its submission, final revision, acceptance, and publication dates were obtained. Information on impact factors, advance online publication (AOP) status, open access (OA) rate and acceptance rate in 2020 was also collected. The correlations between publication delays and potential associated factors were analyzed. Results: A total of 58 ophthalmology journals were included and information on 685 articles was collected. The median times from submission to acceptance, from acceptance to publication, and from submission to publication were 118.0 (IQR, 74.0-185.0) days, 31.0 (IQR, 15.0-64.0) days, and 161.0 (IQR, 111.0-232.0) days, respectively. A higher impact factor was correlated with shorter delays of acceptance and publication (P < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between acceptance rates and publication delays (r = 0.726, P = 0.007). Forty-seven (81.03%) journals provided AOP. There was no statistically significant difference for impact factors and publication delays between journal with and without AOP (all P > 0.05). No correlation between OA rate and publication delays or impact factors was detected (all P > 0.05). Conclusions: Journals with higher impact factors and lower acceptance rates tend to have quicker publication processes. Background: Traditional measures of evaluating scholarly output do not capture the impact social media can provide in disseminating and promoting research. We sought to better understand the level of online attention that high-quality hand research received. Methods: Scientific manuscripts published from 2017 in Journal of Hand Surgery (American Volume) (JHS-A), Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume) (JHS-E), and HAND were recorded. Manuscript characteristics were determined, including the number of citations. Altmetric Attention Score (AAS), a measure of a manuscript's online attention and impact, was determined, as well as Twitter mentions, Facebook mentions, and news outlet mentions. Spearman rho (ρ) correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the relationship between the number of citations and AAS. Multivariable linear regression analysis was performed to determine which manuscript factors were associated with AAS. Results: A total of 323 manuscripts were identified. There was a weak positive correlation between the number of citations and AAS; however, this relationship did not exist for each individual journal. Publication in HAND and JHS-E were associated with lower average manuscript AAS when using JHS-A as the reference group. Two additional factors were also associated with increased manuscript AAS: (1) being a clinical study focused on a specific upper extremity anatomical location; and (2) increasing number of institutions on a study. Conclusions: Publication in HAND and JHS-E were associated with lower manuscript AAS when using JHS-A as the reference group, suggesting that HAND and JHS-E have room for improvement in using social media to share their high-quality hand surgery scientific articles. Impact factor is amplification factor of vertical dynamic effect produced by vehicles. It is a main parameter of bridge design and an important index of dynamic load effect evaluation. In order to study the influence of structure and excitation factors on the impact factor of highway bridges, and then obtain the real impact factor of the continuous beam arch composite bridge, taking a three-span arch bridge made with continuous composite concrete filled steel tube beams as an example, considering the vehicle-bridge coupling vibration effect, the spatial beam element model of the bridge and the half vehicle model with the three-axis are established by using ANSYS. The impact factor of different parts of the main beam and different responses affected by the deck surface roughness, the vehicle speed and the number of vehicles are analyzed. The binary regression formula of impact factor is obtained by taking the vehicle speed and the roughness of bridge deck as independent variables. Finally, the formula is verified by the measured data of two bridges with similar fundamental frequencies. The results show that the impact factor calculated by the current code is generally small for the bridge structure with complex structure and relatively low frequency, such as arch bridge made with continuous composite concrete filled steel tube beams. The impact factor is most affected by the roughness of bridge deck. When the roughness of bridge deck reaches grade B or above, the impact factor exceeds the specification value, and the maximum impact factor can reach 5.42 times of the specification value. For the main beam, the impact factors of different external excitation, different responses and different parts are not the same, and some impact factors exceed the specification value. This study evaluated the factors influencing loyalty to an online clothing shop among college students. A survey was first conducted, and responses were compared. The main factors were identified and screened, and a sample of college students was selected. Likert-scale questionnaires were distributed, and the scores were calculated. The total score associated with the attitude of each respondent was ultimately determined. The strength of the respondents'attitude towards each topic was extracted and calculated, and the results were measured to determine the factors affecting loyalty to online clothing shops among college students. The top three influencing factors identified were as follows: the prices of the items sold by clothing stores, the fashion popularity of clothing, and clothing comfort. Compared with the female respondents, the male ones paid more attention to the matchability of clothing in stores and the fashion popularity of the goods sold. Compared with the males, the females paid more attention to clothing comfort, quality, the merchant's logistics speed and customer service attitude. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
