Background and Objective: Artemisinin-based combination therapies are the first-line antimalarial drugs used to treat uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in many endemic countries worldwide. This study was conducted to assess the efficacy and tolerability of two fixed-dose formulations of artesunate-amodiaquine and artemether-lumefantrine for the treatment of Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Chad. Methodology and Results: A two-arm single cohort study was conducted assessing the efficacy artesunate-amodiaquine and artemether-lumefantrine for the treatment of children with uncomplicated falciparum malaria. This study was carried out from December 14, 2019 to March 14, 2020 at the Massakory I Health Center in Chad. Primary efficacy endpoint was day 28, parasitological cure rate. Secondary endpoints were parasite and fever clearance times and tolerability. A total of 113 patients were included, including 56 in the artesunate-amodiaquine arm and 57 in the artemether-lumefantrine arm. In intention to treat these patients, the Adequate Clinical and Parasitological Response on day 28 were 100% for the two groups. No early treatment failure was observed. The drugs were well tolerated and no serious adverse events were noted. Conclusion: Both forms of Artemisinin-based combination therapy were still effective and safe in the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria in Chad. Further studies are warranted in different regions of Chad for monitoring of drug resistance.

Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related death globally. As a preventive measure, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends annual screening of high risk individuals with low-dose computed tomography (CT). The resulting volume of CT scans from millions of people will pose a significant challenge for radiologists to interpret. To fill this gap, computer-aided detection (CAD) algorithms may prove to be the most promising solution. A crucial first step in the analysis of lung cancer screening results using CAD is the detection of pulmonary nodules, which may represent early-stage lung cancer. The objective of this work is to develop and validate a reinforcement learning model based on deep artificial neural networks for early detection of lung nodules in thoracic CT images. Inspired by the AlphaGo system, our deep learning algorithm takes a raw CT image as input and views it as a collection of states, and output a classification of whether a nodule is present or not. The dataset used to train our model is the LIDC/IDRI database hosted by the lung nodule analysis (LUNA) challenge. In total, there are 888 CT scans with annotations based on agreement from at least three out of four radiologists. As a result, there are 590 individuals having one or more nodules, and 298 having none. Our training results yielded an overall accuracy of 99.1% [sensitivity 99.2%, specificity 99.1%, positive predictive value (PPV) 99.1%, negative predictive value (NPV) 99.2%]. In our test, the results yielded an overall accuracy of 64.4% (sensitivity 58.9%, specificity 55.3%, PPV 54.2%, and NPV 60.0%). These early results show promise in solving the major issue of false positives in CT screening of lung nodules, and may help to save unnecessary follow-up tests and expenditures.

The objective of this study is to report a case of severe hypocalcemia secondary to hypoparathyroidism in a pregnant woman. We report a case of a 45-year-old woman who presented for tonico-clonic seizure in the third trimester of gestation. She was diagnosed with idiopathic hypoparathyroidism for the first time during pregnancy. She was successfully treated with calcium and calcitriol in the rest of her pregnancy with resolution of symptoms but her infant was born with hypercalcemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism due to the late maternal presentation. To the best of our knowledge, hypoparathyroidism is a disorder rarely observed during pregnancy, resulting in most cases from surgical thyroidectomy.

Given the current water shortage in North Africa, improving water management to produce more crop per drop is vital. In addition, the introduction of drought-tolerant, less water-consuming crops such as quinoa is of great interest. To understand the response of quinoa to water stress in terms of biomass and grain yield under various irrigation management strategies, the SALTMED model was employed using field measurements during the cropping seasons of 2011 and 2012 at a site in the Marrakech region, south Morocco. Quinoa showed its ability to grow in the south of Morocco and give a good yield under full irrigation. However, the experimental and modelling results showed that under rainfed and deficit irrigation, the grain yield was lower than under the full irrigation treatment and was dependent on water deficit level. The study revealed that a reasonable grain yield of quinoa can only be obtained if it was subjected to moderate water stress conditions. The results indicated that the SALTMED model is able to simulate the quinoa biomass and grain yield under various water deficit levels and that the model can be used in the evaluation of different irrigation strategies.

Fingerprint Based Exam Hall ticket Systems are best solutions for universities, colleges and schools. This system is help faculty in reduce the proportion of cheating by entering only authorized persons into exam hall instead of using ID card and help the students in Identify their seats number and knowing the exam module name. Used fingerprint scanner has memory, which can store up to 200 finger print. In addition this system contain database of student information which updated every semester. This system is achieved with the use of fingerprint module, raspberry pi3 and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) module. When device is switched on to use, student will ask to scan his/her finger, the scanned image will be matched with the stored image to check if its match or not using optical algorithm, the code of fingerprint will be sanded to the SQL database of the raspberry pi.

Sonuçlar Umman Sultanlığında İngilizce öğretmeni olmak ile ilgili önemli öneriler sunmuştur., Proficiency of the English language has been described as central for determining Non-Native English Speaking Teachers (N-NESTs) selection for joining the profession. The Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman decided to set the score of Band 6 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for accepting the English Language Teaching (ELT) graduates of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) as full-time teachers. The decision has generated significant debate and controversy amongst those involved in the Omani ELT system. This qualitative content analysis study hence triangulates data from interviews and the relevant literature about the different language proficiency measurement devices to determine the selection of SQU graduates to join the ELT force. The findings show that the Ministry of Education needs to rethink the decision of opting for the IELTS as a valid and reliable selection criterion. The results have important implications for setting selection criteria of becoming an English language teacher in the Sultanate of Oman and beyond.

Schizophrenia has been proposed to result from impairment of functional connectivity. We aimed to use machine learning to distinguish schizophrenic subjects from normal controls using a publicly available functional MRI (fMRI) data set. Global and local parameters of functional connectivity were extracted for classification. We found decreased global and local network connectivity in subjects with schizophrenia, particularly in the anterior right cingulate cortex, the superior right temporal region, and the inferior left parietal region as compared to healthy subjects. Using support vector machine and 10-fold cross-validation, nine features reached 92.1% prediction accuracy, respectively. Our results suggest that there are significant differences between control and schizophrenic subjects based on regional brain activity detected with fMRI.

Bu çalışmada, alttaş sıcaklığının Cr2O3/n-Si heteroeklemler üzerine etkisini incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, Cr2O3 ince filmleri 40, 150 and 250 °C alttaş sıcaklıklarında radio frekansı (RF) reaktif saçtırma yöntemi ile n-Si ve cam alttaşlar üzerine büyütülmüştür. Yüksek saflıktaki Cr metali hedef ve oksijen ise reaktif gaz olarak kullanılmıştır. Cr2O3 ince filmlerin optic özellikleri uv-vis verileri ile incelenmiştir. Cr2O3/n-Si heteroeklemlerin elektriksel özellikleri karanlıkta akım-gerilim (I-V) ölçümleri ile incelenmiştir. 250 °C alttaş sıcaklığında büyütülen Cr2O3 ince filmleri ile oluşturulan Cr2O3/n-Si heteroeklemin mükemmel doğrultmaya sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Bu yapının idealite faktörü, engel yüksekliği ve seri direnç gibi elektriksel özellikleri I-V verileri ile hesaplanmıştır. Işık şiddetinin bu yapının fotovoltaik parametreleri üzerin etkiside incelenmiştir. Son olarak, kapasite gerilim ölçümleri ile elde edilen engel yüksekliği değeri I-V ile elde edilen değer ile karşılaştırıldı. The purpose of this study was to see the effects of substrate temperature on Cr2O3/n-Si heterojunctions. For this purpose Cr2O3/n-Si thin films were formed on n.Si and glass substrates at 40,150 and 250 C° by radio frequency (RF) reactive technique. High purity Cr was used as target and oxygen was used as reactive gas. Optical properties of Cr2O3/n-Si thin films were analyzed using Uv-vis data . The band gaps of the films were compared. The electrical properties of Cr2O3/n-Si heterojunction were tested by their current voltage (I-V) measurements in dark. It was observed that the heterojunction which was fabricated by forming Cr2O3 thin film at 250 °C gave better rectification. The characteristics electrical parameters such as barrier height, ideality factor and series resistance were calculated by using its I-V data. The influence of light intensity on photovoltaic effect behavior of the device was also calculated, finally the barrier height value of the structure obtained from capacitance-voltage (C-V) data were compared with the one calculated from I-V measurements. 53

Aims Primary care management of diabetes was examined using the Caribbean Health Research Council (CHRC) guidelines. Methods We retrospectively examined a cross-section of 646 type 2 people with diabetics over 12 months with 1st visit between 1997 and 2005. Results There were more women (65.8%) than men (34.2%) with age range between 29 and 89 years. Blood pressure and weight were evaluated in >95% of patients at each centre. Waist circumference and BMI were not measured at any time and HbA 1 c was infrequently measured (1.6–7%) over the 12 months. Information on family history (87.5%), smoking and alcohol (78.1%), exercise (21.4%), socioeconomic status (19.4%) and education (0.3%), and fasting blood sugar (97.2%), lipid profile (51.8%) and serum creatinine (37.9%) were assessed at the 1st visit. At follow-up patients were advised on treatment compliance (47.2%), diet (34.2%), exercise (18.5%) and rarely on home monitoring of blood glucose (0.3%). Peripheral sensations, pedal pulses (6%), visual acuity (3.3%), fundoscopy (12.1%) and ECG (3.9%) were scarcely examined at the annual visit. Conclusions Current management of diabetes in primary care in Trinidad falls short of Caribbean guideline recommendations. The CHRC and Ministry of Health should jointly educate caregivers of diabetes to implement the guidelines, with annual audits to identify shortfalls in management.

Water shortage is a critical problem touching plant growth and yield in semi-arid areas, for instance the Mediterranean región. For this reason was studied the physiological basis of drought tolerance of a new, drought tolerant crop quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) tested in Morocco in two successive seasons, subject to four irrigation treatments (100, 50, and 33%ETc, and rainfed). The chlorophyll a fluorescence transients were analyzed by the JIP-test to transíate stress-induced damage in these transients to changes in biophysical parameter’s allowing quantification of the energy flow through the photosynthetic apparatus. Drought stress induced a significant decrease in the maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry (Φpo = Fv/Fm), and the quantum yield of electron transport (Φeo). The amount of active Photosystem II (PSII) reaction centers (RC) per excited cross section (RC/CS) also decreased when exposed to the highest drought stress. The effective antenna size of active RCs (ABS/RC) increased and the effective dissipation per active reaction centers (DIo/RC) increased by increasing drought stress during the growth season in comparison to the control. However the performance index (PI), was a very sensitive indicator of the physiological status of plants. Leaf area index, leaf water potential and stomatal conductance decreased as the drought increased. These results indicate that, in quinoa leaf, JIP-test can be used as a sensitive method for measuring drought stress effects.

To understand the logics of the constitutionalization of the Islam in the Arab world,this study suggests, at first, highlighting the continuity of the constitutional influence of theIslam. Indeed, all the constitutions of Arab states, with the exception of that of the Lebanon,refer to the Islam. The important constitutional role of that religion actually affects thestructure and organization of the state, but also the determination of the protection offundamental liberties of man, especially that relating to freedom of religion.Secondly, it is advisable to highlight the ways which allow Arab States to overtake thetheological vision of the constitutional law. The accent is put on two trends: the progressivesecularization of the political power through the marginalization of the religious referent andthe consecration of the state power on one hand, and the constitutional rationalization throughthe strengthening of the role of the constitutional justice and the awakening of the civil societyon the other hand. After all, these developments put the keys of understanding of the legal andpolitical current events. At the time of the "Arab Spring", these two referents, Islam andConstitutional law, are linked to form the political and legal life of the Arabic peoples. Theirdialogue seems necessary or obvious especially as the Revolutions did not end in theconsecration of a laic model and the place of the Islam is maintained, even strengthened., Pour comprendre les logiques de la constitutionnalisation de l'Islam dans les paysarabes, cette étude propose, dans la première partie, de mettre en évidence la permanence del'influence constitutionnelle de l'Islam. En effet, toutes les constitutions des Etats arabes, àl'exception de celle du Liban, se réfèrent à l'Islam. La place prééminente qu'occupe cettereligion dans les textes fondamentaux arabes influe effectivement sur la structure etl'organisation de l'Etat, mais également la protection des droits fondamentaux, en particuliercelle relative à la liberté religieuse.Dans la seconde partie, on a essayé de mettre en exergue les voies qui permettent aux Etatsarabes de dépasser la vision théologique sur laquelle repose leur droit constitutionnel.L'accent est mis sur deux tendances : la sécularisation progressive du pouvoir politique àtravers la marginalisation du référent religieux et la consécration du pouvoir étatique d'unepart, et la rationalisation constitutionnelle à travers le renforcement du rôle de la justiceconstitutionnelle et l'éveil de la société civile d'autre part. En définitive, ces développementsposent les clés de compréhension de l'actualité juridique et politique. A l'heure du« Printemps arabe », ces deux référents, Islam et Droit constitutionnel, s'imbriquent pourformer la trame de la vie politique et juridique des peuples arabes. Leur dialogue semblenécessaire ou évident d'autant plus que les Révolutions n'ont pas abouti à la consécrationd'un modèle laïc et la place de l'Islam se trouve maintenue, voire renforcée.

International audience; The 'bottom-up' nanofabrication of hybrid materials via self-assembly appears as an interesting way to obtain organized metallic nanoparticles (MNPs). The wide usage of these MNPs as a plasmonic materials in many applications including electronics, photonics, catalysis, biological imaging, drug delivery, sensors and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)illustrate the light on the need to use a simple, easy and cheap method of fabrication taking into consideration the influence of physicochemical parameters on the dimensional characteristics of the hybrid nanostructures. A new approach for surface nanostructuring was innovated by means of metallic nanoparticles organized in a thin homopolymer film (PMMA) on a silicon substrate. The originality of this simple self-assembling is that structuring was fabricated in one step, in addition that no reducing agent was used nor preliminary functionalization of the surface was done. The mixture containing PMMA, metallic salt and solvents was deposited on the semi conductive substrate by using spin coating. After the complete evaporation of solvents, a film of polymer drilled by metallic nanoparticle (MNP) rings was obtained. A wide range of Metallic salts “Mn+ (NO3-)n (M: Ag, Au, Mn, Mg, Cr, Cu, Ni, Eu, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Tb, Dy, Tm, Ca, Zr, Fe, Co, Zn, Al,…) were introduced to the PMMA film using the same method. The key parameters of this new method were defined and the mechanism of this synthesis which takes place on the substrate surface was explained by studying the influence of various physicochemical parameters (solvents, speed of evaporation, and nature of surface) on the organization of the MNPs.
