세포 유전학적 분석은 인간에서의 다양한 종류의 질환을 연구하고 진단하는데 매우 유용하게 사용되고 있다. 지난 수년 동안 세포 유전학적 분석을 통해 매우 의미 있는 결과를 얻을 수 있었으며, 현재 임상검사실에서 일반적인 검사로 확대되어 질병을 진단하고 결과를 평가하는데 매우 유용하게 사용 되고 있다. Microarray는 분자 세포 유전학적인 방법과 기존의 세포유전학적 방법이 융합된 검사방법으로 기존 검사 방법의 단점을 보완하여 유전 관련 질환을 진단하는데 매우 유용하게 사용되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 유전질환 진단에 있어 기존의 일반적인 세포유전학적 방법에서 마이크로어레이를 통한 분자세포유전학적 방법으로 어떻게 전환되어 왔는지, 유전 진단을 하는데 앞으로 이 검사방법들이 얼마나 의미 있게 사용될 것인지에 관하여 고찰하였다.

Synthetic natural gas (SNG) from syngas is considered a promising substitute for fossil fuels because of its environmental advantages; however, its heating value is below the standard heating value (especially in South Korea and Japan). In this study, bimetallic Co-Fe catalysts were developed for the production of C2-C4 hydrocarbons for usage as mixing gases to improve the heating value of SNG. The effect of the process conditions on the catalytic behavior was investigated. Catalyst 5Co-15Fe/γ-Al2O3 showed the best results with 91.2% CO conversion, 28.2% C2-C4 selectivity, and 0.98 paraffin ratio at H2/CO = 3.0 and 300 °C.

Bilayered cell sheets were fabricated with coaxial hydro-nanofibrils for three-dimensional (3D) cultivation in a biomimetic environment. Polycaprolactone (PCL) was electrospun and hydrolyzed to release fragmented nanofibrils (NF) in an alkaline condition. Methacrylated gelatin (GelMA) was adsorbed and phototethered on the surface of the fibrils to prepare coaxial NF composed of hydrophilic shells and hydrophobic cores. GelMA layers on the NF were characterized by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The GelMA showed higher decoration level on NF compared to that on native gelatin. GelMA-decorated NF significantly enhanced cell proliferation rate and phenotypic expression of human dermal fibroblasts when spontaneous formation of cell sheets was observed for 7 days. HaCaT cells were layered on top of the fibroblast sheets and further cultivated in air-water interfaces to prepare bilayered skin sheets. After 21 days of incubation, the top layers of the bilayered sheets showed higher expression of pan-keratin, and the dermal cells showed higher proliferation in the GelMA-decorated NF.

A free-standing, antibacterial hydrogel was fabricated using silver-nanoparticle-immobilized cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and alginate. Surface hydroxyl groups of CNFs were oxidized to carboxylate groups using (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxidanyl (TCNF), followed by the treatment with silver nitrate solution for surface adsorption of silver ions. In situ reduction of silver ions to produce silver nanoparticles was performed for the silver-adsorbed CNFs. Electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopic analysis revealed that higher amounts of silver nanoparticles were immobilized on the surface of TCNF than on the surface of native CNF. Silver-nanoparticle-immobilized TCNF was embedded in alginate gels and silver ions from the matrix were slowly released for 7 days. Silver-nanoparticle-loaded alginate gels showed comparable antibacterial activity to silver-ions-loaded alginate gels, although the former showed a significantly lower cytotoxicity against animal cells. Thus, the antibacterial gels can potentially be applied to various skin surfaces to prevent bacterial infection while minimizing skin damage.

The general bone anabolic effect of photobiomodulation (PBM) is largely accepted. As a result, PBM therapy is expected to be beneficial in the medical fields of dentistry and bone healing. However, most of the previous in vitro studies on PBM and bone metabolism were performed with single-cell cultures of osteoclast-lineage cells or osteoblast-lineage cells. In the present study, the bone-modulating effects of PBM were evaluated in an in vitro osteoblast/osteoclast co-culture system. Mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMMs) and mouse calvarial pre-osteoblasts cells were purified and used as precursor cells for osteoclasts and osteoblasts, respectively. Recently, studies have been reported to synergistically improve the electrical conductivity of polymer composites by simultaneously incorporating hybrid fillers, but systematic studies on filler loading and ratio are still scarce. In this study, a one-step process was proposed to induce the incorporation of uniformly dispersed fillers with a high content, and synergistic improvement in the electrical conductivity of polymer composites was studied by applying two types of carbon fillers: nano-sized multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and micro-sized pitch-based carbon fiber (PCF). Based on the proposed process, it was possible to fabricate a polymer composite in which the filler was uniformly dispersed within 40 wt%. The electrical conductivity of the composite containing up to 10 wt% MWCNT which was the percolation plateau content and 30 wt% PCF was 3940 S m−1, showing the maximum performance. This result was improved by 595% and 586%, respectively, compared to the electrical conductivity of the composite containing only 40 wt% MWCNT or PCF. These findings can contribute to expanding the application of conductive composites in the fields of antistatic or electromagnetic interference shielding by providing insight into the optimal design of hybrid filler systems to improve the electrical conductivity of composites.

Sulfide-based lithium superionic conducting solid electrolytes for all-solid-state lithium batteries have received much attention due to their high safety, ionic conductivity, and compatibility. However, high-temperature treatment over a long time is needed to achieve high ionic conductivity. In this work, we have prepared the dual-halide-based Li7P2S8X type lithium superionic conductors by dry ball mill process and the high ionic conducting phase was achieved by low temperature (200℃) heat-treatment process. High ionic conducting halogen-halogen composition was arrived at through a series of optimization processes. Among the compositions tested, the Li7P2S8Br0.25I0.75 solid electrolyte exhibited a high ionic conductivity value of 6.16 mS cm−1, at room temperature. The ionic radius of the halogen element played an important role in the formation of the high ionic conducting phase. Further, the ionic conductivity of Li7P2S8I0.75Br0.25 solid electrolyte was improved by metal doping at P-site. The Sn-doped Li7P2S8I0.75Br0.25 solid electrolyte exhibited a high ionic conductivity value of 7.78 mS cm−1, at room temperature. The addition of large-sized Sn atoms extended the crystal lattice parameters and increased the Li-ions transport path. The partial substitution of Sn atoms at P-site was confirmed by NMR and Laser Raman analysis. The electrochemical stability of the prepared solid electrolyte was studied by cyclic voltammetry and DC charge-discharge analysis. The addition of a metal atom to the Li7P2S8Br0.25I0.75 solid electrolyte decreased the side reaction with the Li metals. Thus, low-temperature treated metal-doped Li7P2S8Br0.25I0.75 solid electrolytes are highly favourable for the fabrication of high-performance all-solid-state batteries. The fabricated all-solid-state battery using Sn doped Li7P2S8Br0.25I0.75 solid electrolyte exhibited the high specific capacity value of 170 mAh g−1 (0.1C), at room temperature.

BACKGROUND A decreased acromiohumeral distance (AHD) is commonly detected in patients with massive rotator cuff tears (mRCTs). Most studies evaluating fixed humeral elevation have used preoperative or postoperative standardized radiography and not stress radiography. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive role of the preoperative AHD measured using stress radiography (AHD_stress) in rotator cuff healing and function after arthroscopic repair of mRCTs. METHODS The data of 113 patients who underwent arthroscopic repair of mRCTs were analyzed. Postoperative cuff integrity was evaluated using magnetic resonance imaging at 1 year, and shoulder function was evaluated at a mean of 34.9 ± 17.8 months (range, 24-92 months) postoperatively. Forty-seven patients showed healing failure. Propensity score matching (1-1) was performed between the healed group and healing failure group. Thirty-eight patients in each group were matched in the final analysis. The AHD and AHD_stress were defined as the shortest distances from the inferior acromion to the superior humerus on standard anteroposterior radiography and stress radiography (5.4-kg weight applied inferiorly in a neutral position), respectively. The AHD difference (AHD_diff) was defined as the difference between the AHD and AHD_stress values. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine cutoff values for significant variables. RESULTS No difference in the mean preoperative AHD was found between the healed group (7.5 ± 2.0 mm) and healing failure group (6.9 ± 2.2 mm, P = .234). The AHD_diff value was significantly higher in the healed group (4.4 ± 2.1 mm) than in the healing failure group (3.0 ± 2.0 mm, P = .002; cutoff, 3.2 mm). Patients with an AHD_diff value ≥ 3.2 mm showed a lower healing failure rate (28.9% vs. 71.1%, P < .001) and higher functional scores than patients with an AHD_diff value < 3.2 mm. The AHD_diff value was higher in patients with an American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score ≥ 80 (4.9 ± 1.9 mm) than in those with an ASES score < 80 (3.1 ± 2.1 mm, P = .024). Among patients with healing failure, only the postoperative AHD showed a significant difference between those with an ASES score ≥ 80 (7.0 ± 2.5 mm) and those with an ASES score < 80 (4.8 ± 2.1 mm, P = .009; cutoff, 4.8 mm). CONCLUSION A reducible AHD, which increased by ≥ 3.2 mm under stress radiography, can be a favorable predictor of rotator cuff healing and function after arthroscopic repair of mRCTs. Our findings suggest that this new and simple radiologic parameter should be considered preoperatively and would be helpful to determine appropriate treatment strategies.

To induce uniform dispersion and excellent interfacial properties, we adopted a strategy of combining both polyamide 6 (PA6) grafting for multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and reactive extrusion of PA6 matrix, based on anionic ring-opening polymerization of &epsilon, caprolactam (CL). Compared to &ndash, COOH and &ndash, NCO treatments of MWCNTs, enhanced MWCNT dispersion and tensile properties of the composites were achieved using the applied strategy, and the tensile strength and modulus of the PA6-grafted MWCNT-filled PA6 composites were 5.3% and 20.5% higher than those of the purified MWCNT-filled PA6 composites, respectively. In addition, they were almost similar to the theoretical ones calculated by the modified Mori&ndash, Tanaka method (MTM) assuming a perfect interface, indicating that the tensile properties of MWCNT-filled PA6 composites can be optimized by PA6 grafting and reactive extrusion based on the anionic ring-opening polymerization of CL due to uniform MWCNT dispersion and excellent interfacial property.

Surface initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) documented a simple but efficient technique to grow a dense polymer layer on any surface. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) give a broad surface to immobilize sulfhyryl group-containing initiators for SI-ATRP, in addition, AuNPs are the major nanoparticulate carriers for delivery of anti-cancer therapeutics, since they are biocompatible and bioinert. In this work, AuNPs with a disulfide initiator were polymerized with sulfoethyl methacrylate by SI-ATRP to decorate the particles with anionic corona, and branched polyethyeleneimine (PEI) and siRNA were sequentially layered onto the anionic corona of AuNP by electrostatic interaction. The in vitro anti-cancer effect confirmed that AuNP with anionic corona showed higher degrees of apoptosis as well as suppression of the oncogene expression in a siRNA dose-dependent manner. The in vivo study of tumor-bearing nude mice revealed that mice treated with c-Myc siRNA-incorporated AuNPs showed dramatically decreased tumor size in comparison to those with free siRNA for 4 weeks. Furthermore, histological examination and gene expression study revealed that the decorated AuNP significantly suppressed c-Myc expression. Thus, we envision that the layer-by-layer assembly on the anionic brushes can be potentially used to incorporate nucleic acids onto metallic particles with high transfection efficiency.

We study the displacement operators within the framework of quantum white noise calculus. The displacement operators are characterized by implementation problems which are equivalent to linear differential equations associated with the quantum white noise derivatives for white noise operators. Then the displacement operators are applied to study a generalization of the Cameron-Martin-Girsanov theorem. More precisely, we prove that the affine transform, with an isometric dilation and a regular drift, of a Brownian motion is again a Brownian motion with respect to a new probability measure which is derived explicitly in terms of the displacement operators.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of noninvasive electrical stimulation (ES) using transcutaneous direct current on facial nerve crush injury by assessing in vitro cellular responses including proliferation and differentiation using PC12 cells as well as by performing in vivo functional and morphological assessments. Compared to the non-treated cells, the cells subjected to ES treatment showed clear in vitro neurite outgrowth and enhanced expression of differentiation genes. In this animal model, functional assessment of recovery was performed using vibrissa movement orientation and electrically stimulated muscle action potential. Moreover, histological observation was performed using a transmission electron microscope. A higher score of recovered vibrissa movement and more significant reduction of the threshold of electrically evoked muscle action potential were observed in the ES group than in the control group. Furthermore, histomorphometric evaluation showed that the experimental group had statistically significantly higher axon counts than did the control group. Regenerative nerve fibers were prominent in the distal segments of the ES group.

In this paper, we mainly to evaluate the newly formed bone using the Calcium deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHA)/collagen-based bio-ceramic scaffold as Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 (BMP-2) carrier in rat calvarial critical-sized bone defect. In the real-time PCR analysis, the CDHA/collagen scaffold loaded rhBMP-2 group showed significantly enhanced results of bone-related gene expression (p 0.05). In the in vivo study, the micro-CT showed that the main bone formation parameters of percent bone volume and trabecular number of the two experiment groups (CDHA/Collagen (CDHA) group, BV/TV: 14.21 ± 3.20, Tb.N: 2.37 ± 0.50; CDHA/Collagen/rhBMP-2(BMP) group, BV/TV: 14.51 ± 3.12, Tb.N: 2.75 ± 0.65) were significantly higher than those of the control (Blank, BV/TV: 3.25 ± 1.25, Tb.N: 0.57 ± 0.20) group (p 0.05). Although there was no significant difference between the two experimental groups, the BMP group results were slightly higher than those of the CDHA group (p 0.05). Moreover, the histological results also supported the micro-CT results. The scaffold of CDHA/collagen seems to be a suitable bio-ceramic carrier loaded rhBMP-2, and appears to enhance new bone formation and bone regeneration in bone defect after implantation.

Background:Previous studies have indicated that people with social anxiety disorder (SAD) often experience spontaneous, recurrent images (SRI). It was assumed that Koreans with interdependent self-views may contain more features related to social contexts in their self-images than those reported in Western cultures.Aims:In the present study, we aimed to explore the prevalence and content of SRIs in individuals with SAD in Korea. Furthermore, we investigated the relationship between features of SRIs and variables of SAD.Method:Sixty-four individuals with SAD (27.00 ± 7.42 years, 64.1% female), diagnosed with SAD, completed self-report questionnaires related to social anxiety. Afterwards, a semi-structured interview was used to assess features and content of the individuals’ SRI.Results:Thirty (47%) of the participants reported experiencing SRIs in social situations. The content of the SRIs were classified under three themes: negative self-images, negative images of others, and abstract images. The distress level of SRIs was positively associated with social phobia scales (r = .385, p < .05) and physical anxiety symptoms (r = .478, p < .05). Frequency of SRIs was positively associated with avoidance scores (r = .402, p < .05).Conclusions:The results demonstrated differences in the prevalence and content of the SRIs between Western and non-Western cultures. Fewer individuals with SAD in Korea reported having SRIs, and the content of these SRIs involved people other than the self. Some features of SRIs were associated with variables of SAD.

Numerous studies have been reported on thermal interface materials based on synergistic hybrid effects, however, most of them contain only fragmentary experimental results and the related model has been rarely proposed to explain the effects exactly. Herein, the thermal conductivities of the composites were systematically evaluated according to various filler contents and ratios. It was found that the fraction of the secondary filler inducing the maximum synergistic effect decreased as the total filler content increased. In addition, when the fraction was higher than the optimum fraction, the anti-synergistic effect occurred. At the optimum fraction, effective phonon transfer was induced due to the improved filler network formation of graphene nanoplatelet (GNP)-carbon nanotube (CNT), thereby achieving high thermal conductivity of 7.69 W/m·K at fGNP = 27.69 vol% and fCNT = 0.57 vol%. Moreover, the Kim-Jang-Lee (KJL) model for the synergistic effect was proposed by introducing filler-ratio variables into the critical percolation equation reported previously, and the KJL model for the anti-synergistic effect was proposed based on the rule of mixture of composites filled with the optimal connected filler network and filled with the excessive secondary filler.
