The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted face to face education and lead the transition to online education in Turkey, as it happened all around the world. The aim of this study is to describe the feelings, opinions, and experiences of the students of health departments about online education. In this qualitative study, interviews were conducted with 40 students in Turkey. The content analysis revealed five themes: (1) ambivalent feelings, (2) feelings of advantages and disadvantages, (3) differences of online education from face to face education, (4) problems experienced, and (5) recommendations. The students of health departments had various feelings such as happiness and worry in the first days of online education. Throughout the online education, students also could not benefit from applied courses. Moreover, the students experienced problems stemming from themselves, the system, and, even if a little, from the teaching staff.

The purpose of this exploratory study was to examine whether specific attitudes and beliefs among pre-service teachers about the use of computer games in mathematics teaching and learning predict their intention to integrate computer games in future mathematics teaching. Data were collected via a questionnaire from 119 teacher education students in a mathematics methods class at a midwestern USA university. Findings indicate that previous experience of computer gaming, gamer identity, self-efficacy for computer game-based teaching, perceived educational benefits of computer games, and gender stereotypes about computer gaming were significantly related to intention to integrate computer games in future teaching. Multi-level linear regression analysis indicates that self-efficacy, perceived benefits and gender stereotypes did not explain significantly more variance in intention for game integration above and beyond that explained by previous experience of computer gaming and gamer identity. Gender and specialization of the preservice teachers were related to previous experience of computer gaming and gamer identity. The results and educational implications of the study for teacher education and policy making are discussed and limitations of the study are addressed.

The COVID pandemic forced universities worldwide to shift to remote and online formats of teaching delivery. In design education, this shift has impacted Experiential Education (EE) pedagogical approach to studio teaching, an approach that gives students an opportunity to apply theory to a concrete experience in a reflective manner and provides cross-disciplinary learning opportunities. This paper discusses Global Design Studio (GDS), a collaborative cross-disciplinary teaching initiative between three design disciplines across three continents: Industrial Design in Australia, Interaction Design in Canada, and User Experience Design in Germany. The objective was to develop a support framework during emergency situations to facilitate cross-disciplinary EE to design students. This paper discusses the three teaching experiences as case studies that offer opportunity for deep analysis and reflection of challenges and enablers to EE education in the shift from traditional design studio to remote and online delivery. While navigating COVID-19 barriers to EE education, GDS aimed to achieve these objectives by sharing resources, ideas, and expertise across the three universities. Each unit dedicated the entire academic term to a first exploration of GDS through a semester-long project 'Interactive Mannikin for children to learn CPR techniques'. This article discusses the context and outcomes of EE teaching and learning experiences at each unit. This paper also reviews the lessons design educators learned about: inter disciplinarity, inter-intra-cultural issues, group working, timing, remote collaboration, and proposing a GDS model for cross-disciplinary EE.

INTRODUCTION: The malignancy risks of high-risk HPV types like 16 and 18 are well-known. The oncogenic potential of other HPV types, however, remains unclear. This study reevaluates malignancy risks across HPV types, stressing comprehensive colposcopic evaluations in cervical cancer screening. METHODS: Conducted at a tertiary care center (January 2021 - July 2023), this retrospective study included 138 women divided into two groups: those infected with HPV 16/18 and those with other HPV types. We analyzed and compared colposcopic and histopathological outcomes, correlating colposcopic results with biopsy outcomes to assess cervical neoplasia. RESULTS: Significant differences were noted between groups. While HPV 16 and 18 are linked to higher cervical neoplasia incidences, non-16/18 HPV types were also frequently associated with smear abnormalities. The average age of first sexual intercourse was 20.49 +- 4.2 years. Forty-nine percent of the women were smokers, 8% had only primary school education, and 78% were homemakers. High rates of known risk factors like low educational and socioeconomic status, and smoking were also significant. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that non-16/18 HPV types might have a higher malignancy potential than HPV 16-18, highlighting their importance in cervical cancer screenings and colposcopic evaluations. The study's small sample size limits its conclusions, pointing to the need for larger studies to refine cervical cancer screening strategies globally.

El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo reconstruir y sistematizar el acervo de ideas que constituyeron el antecedente de la reorganización de la educación técnica durante el peronismo, haciendo especial énfasis en los aportes del diputado socialista Américo Ghioldi. Cabe resaltar que, si bien existen algunos estudios en torno a esta temática, los mismos no dan cuenta de los proyectos presentados por ese legislador. Para llevar adelante esta tarea, se realizará un breve recorrido histórico del desarrollo de la señalada modalidad educativa y de las diferentes ofertas existentes -tanto estatales como paraestatales- entre fines del siglo XIX y 1944, año en el cual es creada la Comisión Nacional de Aprendizaje y Orientación Profesional en el marco de la Secretaría de Trabajo y Previsión dirigida por el entonces coronel Juan Domingo Perón. En este sentido, se presentarán los diferentes proyectos realizados por distintos actores interesados en la reorganización de la educación técnica previos al peronismo, entre los que se destacan los partidarios de una educación profesional al interior de las fábricas y aquellos que abogaban por una educación técnica en establecimientos educativos. Finalmente, se expondrá la posición política del legislador socialista Américo Ghioldi quien, a través de dos proyectos de ley presentados en 1941 y 1942, supo sintetizar y conciliar las distintas propuestas en pugna en torno a cómo reorganizar la señalada modalidad educativa durante la primera mitad de los años 40’ en Argentina. Esta investigación se inscribe dentro de la metodología cualitativa y las técnicas de investigación utilizadas son la observación documental y el análisis de contenido de fuentes documentales tanto primarias como secundarias.

The original scale was developed to determine the personal responsibility levels of Chinese university students. This research is very important in terms of determining the personal responsibility levels of Turkish university students.Methods: This research involved university students, who were selected through purposeful sampling, a non-probability sampling method. After the original scale was translated into Turkish, a pilot study was conducted on 165 students and exploratory factor analysis was conducted to reveal the scale structure. The validity and reliability of the determined factor structure was tested on 259 students. Internal consistency was obtained with the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to check the validity of the two subscale structure.Results: To examine the two-dimensional factor structure of the scale, fit indices were examined: X2/df (1.591), GFI (0.949), IFI (0.937), TLI (0.920), CFI (0.936), RMSEA (0.048) and SRMR (0.050) and It was observed that the indices were within acceptable limits. In the analysis results conducted with the multi-group confirmatory factor analysis method for measurement invariance, it was observed that ∆CFI and ∆TLI values among all metrics were less than or equal to 0.010.Conclusion: The Turkish version of the personal responsibility scale for Chinese college students, consisting of 12 items and two subscales, was proven to be a confirmatory and reliable tool to measure university students’ awareness of personal responsibility.Keywords: Turkish adaptation, university students, personal, responsibility, validation, scale

Abstract Background Malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty are age-related conditions that are associated with multiple health-related negative outcomes. However, the complex associations between them remain to be elucidated. The aims of the study were to explore: (1) whether the risk of sarcopenia has a mediator effect on the association between risks of malnutrition and frailty; and (2) whether physical activity (PA) level modulates this mediator effect in community-dwelling older adults. Methods This cross-sectional study involved 593 older adults (62.73% female; mean age = 71.35 ± 5.86 years). The Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF), the SARC-F Questionnaire, and the FRAIL Questionnaire were used to assess the risks of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty, respectively. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF) was employed to assess PA level. Using the Hayes PROCESS macro (Models 4 and 7), mediation and moderated mediation analyses were performed. Introduction: Contrast nephropathy (CN) is characterized by oxidative stress, vasoconstriction, tubular toxicity, and hypoxia of the renal medulla. We aimed to test the therapeutic effects of an α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist, GTS-21, in an experimental CN model. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 40) were divided into 4 groups: saline-treated control, GTS-21-treated control, contrast, and GTS-21-treated contrast groups. Starting on the 1st day, GTS-21 (4 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) or saline was administered twice a day for 3 days. CN was induced on the second day by intravenous injection of indomethacin (10 mg/kg), l-NAME (10 mg/kg), and a contrast agent with high osmolarity (6 mL/kg; Urografin 76%). At the 72nd hour, blood and kidney samples were obtained for the determination of biochemical, histological, and gene expression parameters. Results: Compared to those in control rats, the elevated serum BUN level in the contrast group decreased with GTS-21 treatment, while H&E staining and TUNEL assays showed that contrast-induced renal injury was improved by GTS-21. Moreover, GTS-21 treatment in the CN also increased the antioxidant glutathione level. In the contrast group, a significant increase in IL-6 expression and a decrease in TGF-β expression were observed; however, GTS-21 treatment decreased IL-6 expression and increased TGF-β expression. Conclusion: GTS-21 significantly alleviated renal injury parameters through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic mechanisms in the CN model.

A phytoalexin polyphenolic chemical, resveratrol, can be found in a variety of foods, including cereals, peanuts, grapes, strawberries, and raspberries. It is also known that resveratrol protects the body against cardiovascular diseases as well as various types of cancer. In addition to these health issues, resveratrol is currently the subject of research since it helps treat and prevent a number of illnesses. More clinical research is needed to validate resveratrol’s potential as a therapeutic agent, despite the plethora of in vitro and in vivo evidence to support this. When the literature data are evaluated, the fact that resveratrol has a therapeutic effect in these studies, but it is known to be subject to rapid metabolism despite its low bioavailability and oral absorption of approximately 75%, has directed the studies to resveratrol derivatives, especially piceatannol. Based on recent studies, 4 types of resveratrol derivatives were assessed in this work: hydroxylated compounds, methoxylated compounds, glycosides, and oligomers. Because of their advantageous bioactivities, methoxylated, hydroxylated, and halogenated derivatives have drawn the most interest among these classes. However, as a result of these studies, more studies should be conducted to better understand whether resveratrol derivatives can be recommended as therapeutic agents.

Spastic paresis is a progressive neuromuscular disease that usually occurs in calves at the age of 3-5 months. The material of this study was a 3.5-monthold female Simmental calf, weighing 87 kg, brought to Selcuk University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Large Animal Hospital in May 2023 with a complaint of lameness in the right hind leg. Clinical examination revealed contraction and hyperextension in the right hind limb of the calf. There was no swelling or pain in the tarsal or genu joints or other anatomical regions. Radiological examination showed no evidence of degenerative joint disease. A diagnosis of progressive spastic paresis was made on the basis of the clinical findings. Partial neurectomy of the tibial nerve was made to treat the calf with spastic paresis. A 15 cm incision was made over the semimembranous and gluteobiceps muscles to access the area. The tibial nerve innervating the gastrocnemius muscles was then identified and a 1 cm section was resected. This de-innervated the gastrocnemius muscles of the limb and the weight was transferred to the flexor digitorum superfisialis. Postoperatively, the patient was treated with antibiotics and analgesics. In conclusion; in the case of spastic paralysis, pain and contractions related to muscle spasms disappeared after the partial tibial neurectomy operation and the life welfare of the calf increased.

Abstract Background Although Türkiye (Turkey) hosts the largest number of Syrian refugees, studies on food insecurity are limited. This study examined the prevalence and risk factors of food insecurity among Syrian refugees living in Istanbul, which has the highest number of refugees in Türkiye. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted among Syrian refugees in Istanbul between September 2021 and March 2022. The main income earners of 103 households were interviewed by a research dietitian, with the assistance of an Arabic speaking interpreter through hour-long face-to-face. Data on sociodemographic characteristics (age, gender, nationality, marital status, educational status, the family income, the major source of family income, and the number of family members living in the household etc.) and household food insecurity status were collected. Household food insecurity status was assessed with the eighteen-item Household Food Security Survey Module. Results The household food insecurity rate was 90.3%, and those of adults and children were 88.4% and 84.8%, respectively.
