Abstract

Gd54Fe36B10−xSix (x = 0, 2, 5, 8, 10) amorphous ribbons were fabricated by melt-spinning technique. Based on the molecular field theory, the magnetic exchange interaction was analyzed by constructing the two-sublattice model and deriving the exchange constants JGdGd, JGdFe and JFeFe. It was revealed that appropriate substitution content of Si for B can improve the thermal stability, maximum magnetic entropy change and widened table-like magnetocaloric effect of the alloys, while excessive Si will lead to the split of the crystallization exothermal peak, inflection-like magnetic transition and deterioration of magnetocaloric properties. These phenomena are probably correlated to the stronger atomic interaction of Fe-Si than that of Fe-B, which induced the compositional fluctuation or localized heterogeneity and then caused the different way of electron transfer and nonlinear variation in magnetic exchange constants, magnetic transition behavior and magnetocaloric performance. 163. Prediction of Depth Distribution Curve of Dissolution Rates Based on the Undulating Features of Rock Surfaces

Abstract

In karst regions, the drilling into the rock layer is restricted, if the construction site has a thick overburden and a small upper load. The evaluation of karst development features beneath the site becomes a common technical difficulty in building foundation engineering. Drawing on our previous research into the depth distribution features of dissolution rate, this paper collects 1000 plus data on typical karst regions across China, and selects 65 data for detailed analysis. Specifically, the rock surface dissolution features were analyzed on the top and bottom of the strong dissolution zone, and used to set up the control conditions for the top and bottom predictions of the strong dissolution zone. On this basis, the authors provided a prediction method for the depth distribution curve of dissolution rates. The results show that the elevation of 75% dissolution rate can be regarded as the top elevation of the strong dissolution zone at the site, which controls the prediction error within 0.5 m. If the pores and fissures are not so developed at the karst site, the elevation of 15% dissolution rate can be regarded as the bottom elevation of the strong dissolution zone at the site. According to the top and bottom elevations, the authors derived the predicted curve of the depth distribution function for the dissolution rates at each site. The predicted curve basically overlapped the curve and scatterplot of the dissolution rates measured at the site, a sign of reliable prediction. The proposed prediction method for the depth distribution curve of the dissolution rates at karst construction sites mainly applies to the sites with undeveloped to moderately developed pores and fissures. Further research is needed to verify its effectiveness in sites with strongly developed pores and fissures.

Abstract

Highly conductive PPy/graphite nanosheets/rare earth ions (PPy/nanoG/[RE3.sup.+]) composites were prepared via in-situ polymerization with p-toluenesulfonic acid as a dopant and Fe[Cl.sub.3] as an oxidant. The microstructures of nanoG and PPy/nanoG/[RE3.sup.+] were characterized by the SEM and TEM examinations. It was found that nanoG and PPy nanospheres formed the uniform composite with the PPy nanospheres embedded on the nanoG surface and/or filled between the nanoG. The effects of nanoG and [RE.sup.3+] on the electrical conductivity and electrochemical performance of the composites were investigated. The results showed that the nanoG and [RE.sup.3+] as the filler had effect on the conductivity and electrochemical performance of PPy/nanoG/[RE.sup.3+] composites, which played an important role in forming a conducting network in PPy matrix. A specific capacitance of as high as 175 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g was achieved over the PPy/ nanoG/[Gd.sup.3+] composite. Abstract

Fusariumwilt is a common fungal disease in sesame caused by Fusarium oxysporumf. sp. sesami(FOS). To determine the toxin production profiles of the FOSisolates with different pathogenicity levels under various culture conditions, we assessed the content variation of fusaric acid (FA) and 9, 10-dehydrofusaric acid (9, 10-DFA) produced by the four representative FOSisolates. Results indicated that the concentration of FA reached to a maximum of 2848.66 ​μg/mL in Czapek medium, while 9, 10-DFA was mainly produced in Richard and Low-carbon Richard medium. The concentration of 9, 10-DFA on Richard culture medium varied from 0 ​μg/mL to 716.89 ​μg/mL. Of the five culture media used in this study, Czapek culture medium was the most conductive to produce FA. FA production was significantly affected by culture medium, culture time, and their interactions. Results suggest that there is no correlation between toxin production and pathogenicity level of FOSisolates. These findings provide key information for the mechanism analysis of FOS- sesame interaction and pathogen control.

Abstract

Purpose We assessed the ability of bispectral index (BIS) to predict clinical outcome (dead or alive within 2 weeks). Methods In total, 90 coma patients with severe brain injuries underwent BIS monitoring, and serum neuronspecific enolase (NSE) and S100 protein levels were assayed within the first 3 days of admission. Receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to assess the performance of BIS values for predicting death within 2 weeks. A cutoff value was calculated using the Youden index. Results A significant negative correlation was found between BIS value and serum NSE and S100 levels. The area under the curve for BIS value was 0.841 (p < 0.001, 95% CI = 0.751-0.931), and higher than for NSE (0.713) (p = 0.002, 95% CI = 0.582-0.844) or S100 (0.790) (p < 0.001, 95% CI = 0.680-0.899). The optimal cutoff of BIS was 32.5. Serum NSE and S100 protein levels and the mortality rate were significantly lower in patients with a BIS value >32.5 than in patients with a BIS value [less than or equal to] 32.5. Conclusions Bispectral index values may reflect degree of brain injury, and BIS is an objective and noninvasive monitoring method for helping clinicians to predict death in patients with a BIS value [less than or equal to] 32.5. Abstract

The high-temperature MOCVD growth of aluminum nitride films aggravate the gas phase parasitic reaction due to the pre-mixing of reactive gases. In order to weaken the gas phase parasitic reaction, a multi-sector spray structure in MOCVD reactor is proposed. The spray structure is composed of multiple sectors. Each reaction gas is passed into a different sector channel by a carrier gas. The channels of the reaction gas are separated by isolated gas channels. By establishing a three-dimensional model of the reactor structure and a flow field model, the effects of the size of each spray sector and the flow rate of the isolated gas on the flow field distribution under high temperature conditions are studied. It was found that when the angle of each reaction gas sector and the isolated gas flow rate are increased to a certain value, the isolated gas channel has a better isolation effect on the reaction gas, which can significantly reduce the premixing of each reaction gas, weak the parasitic reaction. And contribute to improving the quality of the grown film.

Abstract

Background The high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) being associated with impaired Health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, few studies have assessed the HRQoL of individuals with a high risk of CVD in Inner Mongolia, or even in China. We aimed to assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among individuals in Inner Mongolia with a high risk of CVD and its risk factors, to provide a reference to improve HRQoL in individuals with high CVD risk. Methods From 2015 to 2017, residents of six villages or communities in Inner Mongolia, selected using a multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method, were invited to complete a questionnaire and undergo physical examination and laboratory testing. We selected participants whose predicted 10-year risk for CVD exceeded 10% as those with high CVD risk. HRQoL in individuals with high CVD risk was investigated based on the EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D) scale. The Chinese utility value integral system was used to calculate EQ-5D utility scores, and the Tobit regression model were used to analyze the influencing factors of HRQoL among individuals with high CVD risk. Results Of 13,359 participants with high CVD risk, 65.63% reported no problems in any of the five dimensions; the most frequently reported difficulty was pain/discomfort. The mean utility score was 1.000 (0.869, 1.000). Tobit regression analysis showed that sex, age, education level, residence area, household income, physical activity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia were influencing factors of HRQoL. Conclusion We found that female sex, older age, living in an urban area, lower education level, lower household income, and lower physical activity levels were associated with reduced HRQoL. Abstract

Background: Changes in the abundance of ovarian proteins play a key role in the regulation of reproduction. However, to date, no studies have investigated such changes in pubescent goats. Herein we applied isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry to analyze the expression levels of ovarian proteins in pre-pubertal (n = 3) and pubertal (n = 3) goats. Results: Overall, 7,550 proteins were recognized; 301 (176 up- and 125 downregulated) were identified as differentially abundant proteins (DAPs). Five DAPs were randomly selected for expression level validation by Western blotting; the results of Western blotting and iTRAQ analysis were consistent. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis indicated that DAPs were enriched in olfactory transduction, glutathione metabolism, and calcium signaling pathways. Besides, gene ontology functional enrichment analysis revealed that several DAPs enriched in biological processes were associated with cellular process, biological regulation, metabolic process, and response to stimulus. Protein–protein interaction network showed that proteins interacting with CDK1, HSPA1A, and UCK2 were the most abundant. Conclusions: We identified 301 DAPs, which were enriched in olfactory transduction, glutathione metabolism, and calcium signaling pathways, suggesting the involvement of these processes in the onset of puberty. Further studies are warranted to more comprehensively explore the function of the identified DAPs and aforementioned signaling pathways to gain novel, deeper insights into the mechanisms underlying the onset of puberty.
