In this study, a crystal alignment method, in which imposing duration of a static magnetic field and an alternating current on a material during the solidification is controlled has been experimentally confirmed using a Sn-10% Pb metallic alloy. In the initial stage of the solidification both the magnetic and the alternating current are imposed on the alloy to break dendrites into pieces and to spread them to all the region in the sample. In the next stage, the static magnetic field is continuously imposed on the sample while the alternating current is turned off. The function of the static magnetic field in this stage is not only the rotation of the crystals to magnetically stable direction but also the suppression of the disturbance such as liquid motion. In the x-ray diffraction pattern of the sample solidified with the controlled imposition of the electromagnetic fields, peaks corresponding to theoretically predicted planes are mainly observed.

We successfully replanted five amputated legs in five patients and followed the patients for two years or more (average, six years and three months). Although some patients found it impossible to squat and to run because of joint contractures, muscle weakness, or deformities of the foot, all patients could perform other activities without difficulty. None had important pain or any intolerance to cold, and all were satisfied with the results of the replantation.

This study investigated the cellular response of human lymphocytes to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus crude antigen and 14 molecular weight (MW) fractions. The cells were derived from atopic patients and healthy individuals who were skin test-positive or skin test-negative to mite antigen. When stimulated with crude antigen, the group of patients showed elevated proliferation and production of lymphokine in comparison with the healthy skin test-negative individuals (P less than 0.01). By stimulation with fractions, there was a remarkable variety in the responding patterns to each fraction. However, when expressed as a mean value, the patient group exhibited a sharp and high peak at 95,000 MW, which is different from IgE responses. In the other two groups, no apparent peak response was observed. Lymphokine production by fraction stimulation was studied in six distinct individuals. The most important fractions for inducing lymphokine production differed in each individual tested. Moreover, fractions which induced active lymphokine production were not necessarily the main targets of proliferative response in atopic patients.

Rat-mouse hybridoma cells producing anti-mouse IgE antibodies were intraperitoneally or subcutaneously inoculated into newborn or suckling hamsters receiving rabbit anti-hamster thymocyte globulin from the day of birth twice a week for at least 3 weeks. The hybridoma cells were found to grow in the abdominal cavity of the hamsters as ascites tumor or in subcutaneous tissue as solid tumor without loss of antibody-secreting activities. For the production of ascites, 2-week-old hamsters were preferable to newborn hamsters. In 3-week-old hamsters, the hybridoma cells could scarcely survive. The antibody titers of the ascites were determined to be 10(5)-10(6) in the ELISA and in the ability to neutralize the skin-sensitizing capacity of mouse IgE antibodies. The rat monoclonal antibodies were easily separated from ascites, serum or cell culture supernatant with affinity chromatography using Affigel protein A-Sepharose and anti-hamster IgG-Sepharose columns. The described method could be efficiently applicable for the proliferation of other hybridomas, such as human-human, human-mouse or hamster-mouse, etc.

The possible association of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) with uveitis was investigated in 28 subjects with various types of uveitis. Serum or aqueous humor (AH) EB viral antibodies were measured in 28 uveitis patients and in 28 cataract patients as controls. Significant rises in EBV antibody levels were seen in 3 cases from the uveitis group. There was an 8-fold increase of the serum antibody titer in an infant subject, a 16-fold increase in the AH EB viral antibody titer in an adult subject, and a higher antibody quotient (10.2) compared with the serum and AH antibody titers in another adult case. No antibodies to EBV were detected in the AH in the control group. It appeared that EBV might have been involved in the pathogenesis of these 3 cases of uveitis. The clinical features of these cases were as follows. (1) A common cold-like prodrome was noted. (2) Severe acute anterior uveitis with fibrinous exudate was present at the onset. (3) A transition to chronic granulomatous anterior uveitis was seen in the 2 adult cases. (4) Little vitreous inflammation was present. (5) Marked hyperemia and swelling of the optic discs was noted. (6) At the onset there were no abnormal chorioretinal findings, except slight retinal vasculitis in the infant case. (7) Sunset-glow fundus appeared earlier in comparison with Harada disease in the adults and a retinal pigment epithelium disorder developed in the infant. (8) Bilateral involvement was seen in adults. (9) Good final visual acuity was recognized. (10) No systemic changes occurred in the course of the uveitis. This constellation of clinical features appears to comprise a new entity, i.e., EBV-associated uveitis.

The case occurs on an 86-year-old man. In May 1977, Miles' operation was performed for rectal cancer (papillary tubular adenocarcinoma), together with additional proctostomy. In March 1984, subtotal gastrectomy was performed for an early stomach cancer (moderately-differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma). In September 1985, chemotherapy with 3 courses of CDDP (50 mg x 1) plus VDS (3 mg x 3) and liniac irradiation (60 Gy in total) were performed for pulmonary large cell carcinoma. Restiform shadows and fibrosed foci were left behind, but thereafter only the former was persisted without anticancer therapy. Now in December 1989, he has still been surviving without any sign of local recurrence of remote metastasis. Neither anticancer therapy was tried for the first and second cancers nor a cancer family history was found about him.

Osteosarcoma is the one of the tumors that's prognosis have been improved dramatically by the introduction of chemotherapy consisting mainly of adriamycin, high-dose methotrexate with Leucovorin rescue and cisplatinum. Now, the purpose of the treatment for osteosarcoma are assurance of their life and functional and beautiful limb-sparing. Recently, preoperative chemotherapy for limb saving is given to patients with osteosarcoma of the extremities. The five year survival rate increased to 65% and limb sparing rate became above 50%. It is generally accepted that pre- and post-operative chemotherapy can inhibit pulmonary micro metastasis and prove to be of great significance in improving the survival rate of patients with osteosarcoma of extremities and achieve limb salvage operation.

Ability of Sugi basic protein (SBP)-pullulan conjugate to elicit the Arthus reaction was found to be markedly reduced, about 100 times lower than that of native SBP. To analyze this reduced ability, activation of complement by immune complex consisting of SBP-pullulan and anti-SBP antibodies was studied. Tests for complement consumption, C3 conversion and cleavage of factor B revealed that immune complex formed with SBP-pullulan is incapable of supporting efficient activation of the complement system. Previously, we have shown data suggesting that SBP-pullulan conjugate would be a good candidate for desensitization therapy against cedar pollinosis. The results presented in this paper provide additional support for the suggestion.

We measured anterior chamber O2 tension and intraocular pressure (IOP) in normal, untreated controls and in rabbits treated with transpupillary argon laser cyclophotocoagulation. Normal anterior chamber O2 tension was 35 +/- 6 mmHg in room air and increased slowly when the rabbits breathed 100% O2. Between 3 days and 6 weeks after cyclophotocoagulation, O2 tension dropped 54%. Between 12 and 19 weeks after cyclophotocoagulation, changes in O2 tension were not statistically significant compared with the control. Normal IOP was 12 +/- 1 mmHg. Between 3 days and 6 weeks after cyclophotocoagulation, changes in the IOP were not statistically significant compared with the control. Light microscopy showed laser damage to the capillaries in the ciliary body as well as to the ciliary epithelium, particularly between 3 days and 6 weeks after treatment. We conclude that anterior chamber O2 tension under normal conditions reflects at least uveal vascular delivery of O2 and that cyclophotocoagulation, by destroying the ciliary epithelium-capillary complex, causes a decrease of oxygenation of the aqueous humor in the anterior chamber.

Reports is the case of a 21-year-old student, who received a medical examination at our Department for an abnormal chest shadow that had been detected during a periodic health examination at his university. No special subjective symptoms such as a cough and/or sputa, pyrexia, pectoralgia, and dyspnea were noted. A thyroid tumor was palpable and a 99mTc thyroid scintigram and a 201Tl thyroid tumor scintigram gave cause to suspect thyroid cancer and a metastatic lung tumor. A total thyroidectomy and a right modified neck dissection revealed a tumor (histologically, a papillary cancer), 3.5 cm in diameter, that mainly involved the right lobe. It was found that 131I-100 mCi internal irradiation was very effective for the metastatic lung tumor, and no abnormal shadow was subsequently revealed by chest X-ray. Now, 6 years later, he is alive with no manifestations of a local relapse nor any abnormal chest X-ray findings.

13096 Background: Irinotecan is subject to substantial interindividual variability in pharmacokinetic and the occurrence of unpredictably severe toxicities of leukopenia or diarrhea. These toxicities have been reported to be associated with increased levels of SN-38, the active metabolite of irinotecan. ABCC2 and ABCG2, members of adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette transporters, are involved in mediating the elimination of anionic antitumor drugs, such as SN-38 and SN-38G. Recently, Innocenti et al. reported SN-38G AUC and SN-38G/SN-38 AUC ratios were correlated with ABCC2 3972T>C. The variant ABCG2 421C>A was associated with low ABCG2 expression levels and altered sensitivity to several drugs, including SN-38, in vitro as compared with the reference-type protein. Methods: We assessed whether the variants ABCC2 3972T>C and ABCG2 421C>A would be associated with severe toxicity (leucopenia of grade 4 and/or diarrhea of grade 3 or worse) in 120 Japanese cancer patients in which 27 patients experienced severe toxicity. Results: 74 patients (62%) were homozygotes for the reference allele of ABCC2 3972T>C, 39 heterozygous (33%), and 7 homozygous (6%) for the variant, whereas 62 patients (52%) were homozygous for the reference allele of ABCG2 421C>A, 48 heterozygous (40%) and 10 homozygous (8%) for the variant. Logistic regression analysis did not show any significant associations between the occurrence of severe toxicity and carrying these variants (see Table ). Conclusions: It suggests that genotyping of ABCC2 3972T>C and ABCG2 421C>A would not be useful for predicting severe toxicity caused by irinotecan. A method for reducing ghost interference of TV signals is described. As part of a ghost canceler that is designed to eliminate ghost signals inside a signal receiver, the authors developed a ghost cancel reference (GCR) signal as part of the EDTV (extended definition television) system. In this system, a bar signal with a rise waveform of sin x/x is inserted as a reference signal into the vertical blanking period using a special send sequence on the transmitter's side. With this GCR, the ghost canceler built into a TV receiver is able to detect ghost signals with a delay time of about 45 mu s or less (i.e. from the limit of subjective observation to that of objective observation). This GCR method has been adopted as Japan's standard for broadcasting and was introduced in the fall of 1989. >

To clarify possible roles in the pathogenesis of ischemic brain edema, identification and quantitative analysis of hydroxy-eicosatetraenoic acids (HETEs) in rat brains exposed to middle cerebral artery occlusion were carried out using high-performance liquid chromatography. Rat brain sampling was done by in situ freezing 24 and 72 hours after occlusion. Only a small amount of 15-HETE was found in control rat brains. Twenty-four hours after ischemia, 11-HETE appeared, and the amount of 15-HETE tended to increase. Seventy-two hours after ischemia, when brain edema reached its maximum, 5-, 8-, 9-, 11-, 12-, and 15-HETEs were identified, and the amounts of all HETEs except 8- and 12-HETE were significantly increased. The detection of 5-HETE in ischemic rat brain indicates the simultaneous production of leukotrienes in the same brain area. The above results support the view that lipoxygenase products may play significant roles in the formation of ischemic brain edema.

Various carboxylic esters including functionalized ones are prepared in good yields from equimolar amounts of free carboxylic acids and alcohols under mild conditions by the use of 2-chloro- or 2-bromopyridinium salt, a new and efficient coupling reagent.

The ability of UV-treated splenic adherent cells (SAC) to induce T cell-mediated immunity and suppressor T cells was analyzed in the 4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenyl acetyl (NP) system. UV irradiation of 0.88 KJ/m2 decreased the capacity of NP-coupled SAC to induce delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) responses by about 50%. The ability of uncoupled UV-treated SAC to induce allogeneic DTH response was also imparied, indicating that UV-treated SAC are inefficient at inducing DTH in these systems. TS1 induction by UV-treated NP-SAC was evaluated TS1 induction by UV-treated NP-SAC was evaluated by using adherent cells that were subjected to the same dose of UV irradiation that impaired DTH induction. Intravenous administration of 10(3) or 10(4) UV-treated NP-coupled SAC induced TS1 cells with the same efficiency as non-UV-irradiated cells. The TS1 cells induced in this fashion were antigen specific. Furthermore, to establish that the antigen was not reprocessed by the host, I-J-mismatched, UV-treated NP-SAC were unable to induce TS1 cells. The population of antigen-presenting cells responsible for TS1 induction appear to express both I-A and I-J determinants. TS2 induction by UV-treated accessory cells was also analyzed. TSF1 inducer suppressor factor was pulsed onto graded numbers of either normal or UV-treated adherent cells. The same levels of antigen-specific suppression were induced with normal and UV-treated cells. Finally, TS3 induction by UV-treated NP-SAC was analyzed. UV-treated and normal NP-SAC (3 X 10(3] induced antigen-specific suppression of NP DTH responses. I-J-mismatched, UV-treated NP-SAC failed to induce suppression, suggesting that the hapten was not reprocessed by the host under these experimental conditions. The accessory cell population responsible for TS3 induction appears to express both I-A and I-J determinants. Thus, there are at least two functional distinctions between the antigen-presenting cells that induce immunity vs those that induce suppressor cells. First, UV treatment selectively impairs the antigen-presenting cells, which activate the positive limb of the immune response. Second, I-J determinants appear to be specifically associated with the SAC, which induce suppressor T cells. Although these criteria can be used to distinguish the accessory cells involved in suppressor cell pathways from those controlling helper T cell induction, there were no discernible phenotypic differences among the accessory cells that induce the TS1, TS2, and TS3 subsets.

A mechanism responsible for the induction of NP-specific first order (inducer) suppressor cells (TS1) is described. TS1 cells are induced by i.v. administration of hapten-coupled splenic cells. Their activity is assessed by the adoptive transfer of NP-specific suppression during the afferent phase of the contact sensitivity response. NP-coupled firmly adherent, FcR+, I-A-bearing macrophages induce TS1. The antigen-presenting cells required for TS1 induction lack the Thy-1 and Lyt-1 markers, and are resistant to 500 R irradiation and to cyclophosphamide treatment. NP-coupled dendritic cells fail to induce TS1 activity. The induction of TS1 cells is genetically restricted by genes that map in the I-J region of the H-2 complex. The NP-coupled antigen-presenting cells must share at least one I-J allele with the TS1 donor for effective induction of TS1 activity. To minimize allogeneic effects in these studies, the activity of the TS1 population was assessed by adoptive transfer into syngeneic recipients. The present results are compared with the mechanisms required for the induction of second and third order suppressor cells.

Retinal interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP) is a potent uveitogen in Lewis rats, producing experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) reproducibly at doses lower than those of S-antigen (S-Ag). In contrast, IRBP was found to be poorly uveitogenic in three strains of guinea pigs, inducing only minor changes in a small proportion of these animals. On the other hand, S-Ag was found to induce EAU in the majority of immunized guinea pigs, with changes more severe than those induced by IRBP. Unlike the difference in their uveitogenicity, IRBP and S-Ag induced similar levels of specific immune responses in the immunized guinea pigs. The poor uveitogenicity of IRBP in guinea pigs resembles that of A-antigen (A-Ag). The two proteins are also similar in other features and were found in this study to be antigenically identical. It is proposed that IRBP and A-Ag are one and the same protein.

Volunteers form the backbone of the American hospice movement. By providing a critical mass of caregivers and office assistants, volunteers have enabled many hospice programs to grow and develop over time. Although hospice volunteerism is generally viewed positively, administrators arc becoming increasingly open about the frustrations they experience using volunteers. Major areas of concern include the recruitment, retention, training, and reliability of volunteers. This article examines issues concerning volunteer-staff dynamics. Specifically, the authors focus on volunteers' training, assessment, stress, and working relationships with hospice staff. On the basis of an exploratory study of 17 volunteers and 25 staff, the researchers found statistically significant differences between staff and volunteers across a variety of factors, including role perceptions, responsibility expectations, training requirements, and work satisfaction. Third-order (Ts3) suppressor cells are generated after conventional immunization. These cells, however, will not mediate suppressor cell function unless specifically triggered by an activating signal, termed TsF2. This report analyzes the mechanism of this TsF2-mediated triggering event. TsF2-mediated suppression is genetically restricted by genes in the I-J and Igh-V regions. The target of the I-J restrictions is a firmly adherent accessory cell, which appears to express I-J-related determinants. These accessory cells are sensitive to cyclophosphamide treatment and 500 R irradiation. In contrast, the target of the Igh-V restriction of TsF2 appears to be the Ts3 cell, which carries antigen-specific, idiotype-related receptors. The mechanism of suppressor cell activation appears to involve two stages. Presentation of I-J-restricted TsF2 by I-J-compatible presenting cells and a second step involving idiotype-anti-idiotype interactions between TsF2 and the Ts3 cell. I-J compatibility is not required with the accessory cell for Ts3 activation. Finally, we hypothesize that the anti-idiotypic determinants expressed on TsF2 can serve as an internal image of antigen, thereby permitting specific targeting of the factor.

The hypothesis that overall satisfaction with life is influenced by one's financial situation vis-a-vis significant others was tested. Respondents compared themselves financially to the relative, friend, and neighbor to whom they felt closest. Data from a 1980 community survey of persons 60 years of age and older showed that the better off financially respondents perceived themselves to be compared with the relative to whom they felt closest, the greater the life satisfaction. This effect was independent of functional health, age, sex, race, marital status, education, income, household size, and social participation. These findings suggest that life satisfaction reflects not only one's location in the broader stratification system but also one's location in a rather limited network of significant others.

Comparing males admitted to treatment for drug use in 1976 with a sample of users, never treated, both first and repeat admissions are found to be dependent on the frequency of use and a person's social resources. Adjusting for differences in the frequency of consumption, single males were treated more often than the married, and men of lower occupational and educational attainment were admitted in greater proportions than were men of higher status. Social resources not only have significant main effects but they interact among themselves and with consumption frequency to influence admission probabilities.

High neutrophil chemotactic activity was detected in the culture medium from Oesophagostomum aculeatum larvae in vitro using blind-well chambers with Millipore filters, and guinea pig leucocytes as indicator cells. Neutrophil chemotactic activity was also detected in the extract from larval worms in a dose dependent fashion. This activity was detected in the low molecular weight fractions adjacent to a sodium chloride marker by gel filtration on Sephadex G200. These results were further confirmed with monkey neutrophils. The possible role of this activity in the formation of granulomatous lesions rich in neutrophils found in O aculeatum infections in the Japanese monkey is discussed.

The IgG anti-DNP antibody response to DNP-POL was explored in mice in an adoptive transfer system. The adoptive secondary IgG anti-DNP response required the presence of T cells. The IgG anti-DNP response to DNP-POL could be obtained in the irradiated recipients transferred with DNP-primed B cells if the recipients had been primed with either carrier or unrelated antigens 5 days before the cell transfer. Passive transfer of DNP-primed B cells plus T cells activated by carrier resulted in a high IgG anti-DNP response to DNP-POL. Passive transfer of DNP-primed B cells plus either T cells activated by unrelated antigens or unactivated T cells also resulted in a low but appreciable IgG anti-DNP response. Moreover, there are qualitative differences among these IgG anti-DNP responses. The IgG1, IgG2a, and IgG2b responses to DNP-POL were induced only in the carrier-primed recipients given DNP-primed B cells. By contrast, the IgG3 response to DNP-POL could be induced in the KLH-primed recipients receiving DNP-primed B cells. These results indicate that the IgG anti-DNP responses to DNP-POL are induced through at least two different pathways; one involves a collaboration between carrier-specific T cells and hapten-specific B cells, and the other involves an interaction between noncarrier-specific T cells and hapten-specific B cells.

It has been suggested that macrophage-like accessory cells are involved in suppressor T cell (Ts) induction. To further analyze this issue, we obtained several cloned macrophage hybridoma cell lines by somatic cell fusion of the macrophage tumor P388D1 of DBA/2 (H-2d) origin with splenic adherent cells of CKB mice (H-2k). Several cloned lines displayed the serological and functional characteristics of macrophages. We evaluated the ability of these hybridomas to induce third order or effector Ts (Ts3) to suppress the contact sensitivity response against the hapten 4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenyl acetyl (NP). In contrast to the parental P388D1 and two other macrophage hybridomas, one macrophage hybridoma clone, termed 63, when conjugated with NP, induced Ts3, which suppressed contact sensitivity responses against NP but not DNFB, showing that the Ts3 were antigen specific. Macrophage hybridoma 63 could specifically induce Ts3 activity in either H-2k, H-2d, or H-2k/H-2d heterozygous hosts. Thus, macrophage hybridoma 63 functionally expressed major histocompatibility complex-related restricting determinants, and the fusion with cells from a H-2k macrophage donor caused a functional complementation of H-2d-related, Ts-inducing elements. The genetic restriction governing induction of Ts3 was controlled by genes that mapped to I-J region. Furthermore, NP-conjugated macrophage hybridoma 63 could serve as a target for elicitation of suppressor responses after administration of I-Jk, but not I-Jb, restricted suppressor factor. The data suggest that macrophage hybridomas represent a means to dissect heterogeneity within the macrophage population. The data also imply that the I-J determinants expressed on macrophages represent a ligand for the antigen receptor of Ts.

A "race interaction" hypothesis would suggest that factors important to the life satisfaction of whites may not be important to the life satisfaction of blacks. In this paper we suggest that dummy variable regression with interaction terms allows an assessment of differential effects by race. Using data from 438 white and 219 black elderly respondents, it is shown that most factors influencing life satisfaction of elderly people have similar effects among blacks and whites. Although greater numbers of impairments lead to lower life satisfaction for both races, the negative effect is considerably stronger among black than among white respondents.

We have previously described a genetically restricted suppressor factor (TsF3) that suppresses the terminal phases of the contact sensitivity response. The activity of TsF3 is restricted by genes in the H-2 (I-J) and Igh complexes. This report analyzes the mechanisms responsible for these genetic restrictions. One cellular target of TsF3 is an I-J-bearing antigen-presenting cell population that is sensitive to low doses of cyclophosphamide. To elicit suppression I-J homology is required between this antigen-presenting cell population and the TsF3 donor. In contrast, the Igh-linked genetic restriction exists between TsF3 and an unprimed cell population present in the recipient. These findings suggest that under these experimental conditions TsF3 acts by bridging the APC with cells of the host. Finally, we demonstrated that nonspecific bystander or cognate suppression can be mediated by TsF3, provided specific antigen is present in the site of the ongoing T cell response.

Extensive experience with replantation and transplantation surgery has accrued since the development of microvascular surgery. However, circulation often fails to return to a tissue after a temporary period of vascular obstruction, even if the vascular anastomoses are perfect. This circulation failure is known as the "no-reflow phenomenon." The authors investigated the effectiveness of fluorocarbon (FC) in preventing this condition using the free epigastric flap of the rabbit. When the flaps were immersed in oxygenated FC during the ischemic period, the survival rate of the flap was 100% and 80% in 12 and 24 hours of ischemia, respectively. These survival rates were higher than those in control animals (20%). Although further studies are necessary for clinical application, it is suggested that the FC immersion technique has a definite potential for prevention of the no-reflow phenomenon in tissue transplantation and replantation surgery.

Since 1971, we have treated 76 patients with metastatic bone tumor. Forty-eight of 76 cases were treated surgically. In 34 cases, removal of metastatic foci of the spine was attempted from the anterior and/or posterior approach. In the remaining 14 cases, resection of the tumor with or without prosthetic replacement, osteosynthesis, or amputation was performed according to the site of bone metastasis. In cases of spinal metastasis, if foci were located anteriorly, resection and replacement of vertebral body by ceramic spacer and/or bone cement was effective for both relief of pain and reduction of paralysis. If foci were located posteriorly, however, the results of simple laminectomy were poor, and those of spinal instrumentation in addition to laminectomy were satisfactory. In the treatment of metastatic foci of pelvis, scapula and long bone, the results of orthopedic surgery were satisfactory, because relief of pain and maintenance of function were achieved in almost all cases. From the standpoint of prolongation of life, 15 out of 76 cases (20%) were alive with or without disease; 13 of them were treated not only surgically but also by radiation and/or chemotherapy.

Malignant granular cell tumor closely associated with the radial nerve in the left upper arm, was found in a 34-year old man. The tumor increased rapidly in size, was locally invasive and showed recurrence and metastases to lymph nodes and the lungs. The tumor was composed solely of granular cells and its histological features were very similar to those of benign granular cell tumors. However, considerable variation of cellular size and shape, hyperchromatic plump nuclei, and some disordered cellular arrangement were thought to be significant indications of malignancy. Ultrastructural study of the tumor revealed many lysosome-like dense granules in the cytoplasm. The presence of a few axon-like cytoplasmic processes between granular cells and the intimate anatomical association of the tumor with the radial nerve seemed to support the concept of peripheral nerve origin of the malignant granular cell tumor.
