Abstract

Multidisciplinary research on human remains can provide important information about population dynamics, culture diffusion, as well as social organization and customs in history. In this study, multidisciplinary analyses were undertaken on a joint burial (M56) in the Shuangzhao cemetery of the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD), one of the most prosperous dynasties in Chinese history, to shed light on the genetic profile and sociocultural aspects of this dynasty. The archaeological investigation suggested that this burial belonged to the Mid-Tang period and was used by common civilians. The osteological analysis identified the sex, age, and health status of the three individuals excavated from M56, who shared a similar diet inferred from the stable isotopic data. Genomic evidence revealed that these co-buried individuals had no genetic kinship but all belonged to the gene pool of the ancient populations in the Central Plains, represented by Yangshao and Longshan individuals, etc. Multiple lines of evidence, including archaeology, historic records, as well as chemical and genetic analyses, have indicated a very probable familial joint burial of husband and wives. Our study provides insights into the burial customs and social organization of the Tang Dynasty and reconstructs a scenario of civilian life in historic China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

174. Defect-Rich, Rose-Shaped Fe2Ni1‑Metal–Organic Framework Nanoarrays for Efficient Oxygen Evolution Reaction.

Abstract

This article reports an important improvement of the design of high-efficiency and economical catalysts to accelerate the four-electron-proton-coupled oxygen evolution reaction (OER), which is a critical half-reaction in renewable electrolytic water systems. Herein, the Fe2Ni1-MOF nanoarrays with various morphologies were in situ-grown on the surface of nickel foam (NF) based on the acetic acid-assisted strategy for oxygen evolution reaction. Under the control of a regulator, the optimized 3A-TDC-MOF nanosheets in OER exhibit superior catalytic activity with an overpotential of 211 mV at 10 mA cm–2 and a Tafel slope of 40.3 mV dec–1, attributing to the rose-shaped nanoarray, abundant defect sites, and Fe-Ni bimetallic synergistic effect. Further analysis shows that the superior electrocatalytic performance depends on the formation of active intermediate metal-oxyhydroxide after the ligand chain 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic is replaced partially by OH–. Abstract

This article presents the theoretical analysis and numerical modeling of various cogging torque suppression methods of the slotted limited angle torque motor (LATM). The relationship between the cogging torque, the output characteristics, and the structure parameters of new methods is revealed by derived equations and finite-element analysis (FEA), which provides a theoretical basis for the optimization of the slotted LATM. The effectiveness of the best suppression method is verified by the prototype experiment. In addition, a method to predict torque distortion caused by armature reaction is proposed and it is verified by the finite-element simulation and prototype experiment.

Abstract

Uncontrollable dendrite growth hinders the direct use of lithium metal anode in batteries even though it has the highest energy density of all anode materials. Li and N atoms have strong interaction and could form Li–N bond, promising for regulating Li-ion flux during the plating/stripping process. Herein, we successfully prepared ultrathin graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets with a thickness of ~ 1 nm and formed a g-C3N4 thin layer over the lithium metal anode. The abundant nitrogen species within g-C3N4 nanosheets could form Li–N bonds to powerfully stabilize the lithium-ion flux and enhance the affinity of electrodes with electrolytes. On top of that, the thin layer could act as an artificial solid electrolyte interface (SEI) to suppress lithium dendrite growth and enable stable Li plating/stripping over 350 h at a high current density of 5 mA cm−2 with a low overpotential of about 50 mV. The reported work demonstrates a promising strategy of the functional artificial SEI design for Li metal anodes.

Abstract

Jack-up rigs typically operate close to long-running jacket platforms. Unfortunately, penetration and extraction of the spudcan under jack-up rigs may impose an adverse influence on adjacent platform piles. In this study, the influence of bucket spudcan and inverted cone spudcan penetration and extraction on the lateral behaviour of adjacent pile were studied comparatively by conducting a series of model tests and numerical simulation in sand. The influence of spudcan-pile distance, pile diameter and pile head conditions on the spudcan-pile interaction were studied. Additionally, the soil flow patterns during penetration and extraction of two types of spudcans were analysed using the CEL. The results show that the pile bending moment and pile head displacement induced by bucket spudcan penetration and extraction are smaller than that of an inverted cone spudcan. It provides an engineering option for dealing with the adverse influence on adjacent piles induced by spudcan penetration and extraction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
