If content is not available in a reader’s native language or a language that she can readily understand, access barriers and knowledge gaps are created, threatening Wikimedia’s goal to create knowledge equity among all its projects and their consumers. This article argues for research on the effects of multilingualism and mutual intelligibility on Wikipedia reading behaviour, focusing on the Nordic countries, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Initial exploratory analysis shows that while residents of these countries use the native language editions quite frequently, they rely strongly on English Wikipedia, too. The Scandinavian countries are often seen as a unity. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic striking differences on how the countries approached the crisis became evident. This quantitative-ethnographic (QE) study aimed to understand political and cultural similarities and differences between the three Scandinavian countries -Denmark, Norway and Sweden - through their crisis communications during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, we focused on how the health authorities of the three countries, in their press releases, treated information about COVID-19 and acted in four fields: reorganization of population behavior, containment of viral transmission, preparation of health systems, and management of socioeconomic impacts. As a methodology, the QE tools nCoder and ENA were applied, respectively: to code the press releases and to correlate the treatment of information with the four fields of action.

Today’s smartphone users often use several mobile messaging services alongside each other, even though they typically offer the same features and functionality. Where previous studies have focused on how and why users permanently abandon mobile messaging services and switch to new ones, this study examines the degree to which smartphone users keep switching back and forth between multiple services, and the factors that influence this temporary switching behavior. We used an exploratory research approach in a longitudinal diary study combined with semi-structured interviews. We found that temporary switching behavior is influenced by technological affordances, contextual factors, individual preferences, and the type of conversation. Both positive and negative impacts were identified within these aspects, with some having an indirect influence, revealing the complexity of temporary switching behavior.

Mechanotransduction is elicited in cells upon the perception of physical forces transmitted via the extracellular matrix in their surroundings and results in signaling events that impact cellular functions. This physiological process is a prerequisite for maintaining the integrity of diarthrodial joints, while excessive loading is a factor promoting the inflammatory mechanisms of joint destruction. Here, we describe a mechanotransduction pathway in synovial fibroblasts (SF) derived from the synovial membrane of inflamed joints. The functionality of this pathway is completely lost in the absence of the disintegrin metalloproteinase ADAM15 strongly upregulated in SF. The mechanosignaling events involve the Ca2+-dependent activation of c-Jun-N-terminal kinases, the subsequent downregulation of long noncoding RNA HOTAIR, and upregulation of the metabolic energy sensor sirtuin-1. This afferent loop of the pathway is facilitated by ADAM15 via promoting the cell membrane density of the constitutively cycling mechanosensitive transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 calcium channels. In addition, ADAM15 reinforces the Src-mediated activation of pannexin-1 channels required for the enhanced release of ATP, a mediator of purinergic inflammation, which is increasingly produced upon sirtuin-1 induction.

Health experts and government authorities' actions to combat the coronavirus outbreak are strongly compromised by the misinformation infodemic that evolved in parallel to the COVID-19 pandemic. When people get misled by unscientific and unsubstantiated claims regarding the origin or cures for COVID-19, public health response efforts get undermined and people might be less likely to comply with official guidance and thus spread the virus or even harm themselves. To prevent this from happening, a first step is to reveal the prevalence of misinformation ideas in the public. In this study, we use search log analysis to investigate the extent and characteristics of misinformation seeking behaviour in the US using the Bing Search Data-set for Coronavirus Intent. We train a machine learning model to distinguish between regular and misinformation queries and find that only around 1\% of queries are related to misinformation myths or conspiracy theories. The query term qanon - connecting the conspiracy theory to many different origin myths of COVID-19 - is the most frequent and steadily increasing misinformation-related query in the data-set.

Background New medications for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) have emerged in the last decades, including Disease Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (DMARDs) and biologics. However, there is no known cure, since a significant proportion of patients remain or become non-responders to current therapies. The development of new mode-of-action treatment schemes involving combination therapies could prove successful for the treatment of a greater number of RA patients. Methods We investigated the effect of the Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors (TKIs) dasatinib and bosutinib, on the human TNF-dependent Tg197 arthritis mouse model. The inhibitors were administered either as a monotherapy or in combination with a subtherapeutic dose of anti-hTNF biologics and their therapeutic effect was assessed clinically, histopathologically as well as via gene expression analysis and was compared to that of an efficient TNF monotherapy. Results Dasatinib and, to a lesser extent, bosutinib inhibited the production of TNF and proinflammatory chemokines from arthritogenic synovial fibroblasts. Dasatinib, but not bosutinib, also ameliorated significantly and in a dose-dependent manner both the clinical and histopathological signs of Tg197 arthritis. Combination of dasatinib with a subtherapeutic dose of anti-hTNF biologic agents, resulted in a synergistic inhibitory effect abolishing all arthritis symptoms. Gene expression analysis of whole joint tissue of Tg197 mice revealed that the combination of dasatinib with a low subtherapeutic dose of Infliximab most efficiently restores the pathogenic gene expression profile to that of the healthy state compared to either treatment administered as a monotherapy. Conclusion Our findings show that dasatinib exhibits a therapeutic effect in TNF-driven arthritis and can act in synergy with a subtherapeutic anti-hTNF dose to effectively treat the clinical and histopathological signs of the pathology. The combination of dasatinib and anti-hTNF exhibits a distinct mode of action in restoring the arthritogenic gene signature to that of a healthy profile. Potential clinical applications of combination therapies with kinase inhibitors and anti-TNF agents may provide an interesting alternative to high-dose anti-hTNF monotherapy and increase the number of patients responding to treatment.

Renzo Piano Building Workshop designed a 290,000 sf museum celebrating the artistry and technology of film, becoming the world’s first museum and event space devoted to the Motion Picture. The 388 Mio USD project consist of a six story tall renovated existing building and a dome-shaped iconic new building housing a 1,000-seat theater. Both buildings are linked by several – partially suspended – bridges. The 150 ft diameter dome is a steel grid shell with cable bracing and flat, shingled glass panels on a secondary layer. The single-layered curved structural steel tubes have a diameter of 4 inches only. With an airy and weightless quality, the globe’s structure seems to dissolve into the background. The construction of the steel glass structure was completed in autumn 2019; grand opening of the museum is planned for summer 2020. This pilot study proposes the use of so-called stimulus material during interviews for requirements elicitation as part of the design process of a digital archive. Designing complex systems like digital archives is not straightforward as users of these systems have specific needs and tasks that designers need to be aware of before the implementation phase can begin. Stimulus material can support the requirements elicitation to collect domain- and content-specific user tasks and needs, which might get overlooked otherwise. We supplemented semi-structured interviews with observational sessions in which print-outs of historical pamphlets and office supplies were handed to participants to give them the opportunity for in-depth study of the material. We found that the use of stimulus material helps participants to focus on the task at hand and articulate their actions and workflow steps more easily. Via thematic analysis the participants statements were turned into a coding schema that serves as requirements specification for an initial prototype.

Authorship attribution (AA) is concerned with the task of finding out about the true authorship of a disputed text based on a set of documents of known authorship. In this paper, we investigate the potential of Bootstrap Consensus Networks (BCN) – a novel approach to generate visualizations in stylometry by mapping similarities of authorial style between texts into the form of a network – for large-scale authorship attribution tasks. We apply this method to the freedom of the press writings (Trykkefrihedsskrifter), a corpus of pamphlets published and collected in Denmark at the end of the 18th century. By conducting multiple experiments, we find that the size of the constructed networks depends heavily on the type of variables and distance measures used. Furthermore, we find that, although a small set of unknown authorship problems can be solved, in general, the precision of the BCN method is too low to apply it in a large-scale AA scenario.

Die vorliegende Arbeit soll einen wissenschaftlichen Beitrag zur Forschung hinsichtlich der Unternehmensgründung liefern. Im speziellen sollen Aspekte bei der Gründung von produzierenden Technologieunternehmen beleuchtet werden. Die analysierten Fragestellungen basieren auf der Tatsache, dass die Entwicklung der Neugründungen in der betrachteten Branche sich weniger dynamisch entwickeln als in verwandten Bereichen, insbesondere der technischen Software. Die Arbeit zielt deshalb darauf ab zu analysieren, inwieweit charakteristische Gründungshemmnisse und besondere Herausforderungen bei der Gründung eines produzierenden Technologieunternehmens vorliegen, die möglicherweise in anderen Branchen nicht gegeben sind. Bisherige Studien für vergleichbare Betriebe zeigen, sofern vorhanden, insbesondere einen signifikant erhöhten Ressourcenbedarf. Dies beinhaltet vor allem einen gesteigerten Kapitalbedarf zur Finanzierung von Entwicklung, Investitionen und Produktion. Im Zuge dieser Arbeit sollen diese Erkenntnisse vertieft beziehungsweise ihre Anwendbarkeit auf produzierende Technologiebetriebe in Österreich dargelegt werden. Dazu werden Gründer und Geschäftsführer von in Betracht kommenden Unternehmen befragt um entsprechende Analysedaten zu generieren. Mithilfe dieser soll beantwortet werden, was die größten Herausforderungen bei der Gründung eines produzierenden Technologieunternehmens sind, wie sich junge Technologieunternehmen in den ersten Jahre der Gründungsphase finanzieren und welche Ansätze sie verfolgen, um die Herausforderungen erfolgreich zu meistern. Es zeigt sich dabei, dass erwartungsgemäß der Kapitalbedarf für vielfältigste Kostentreiber eine gewichtige Rolle spielt. Darüber hinaus ergeben sich jedoch auch bedeutende Schwierigkeiten bei der Aufbringung anderer Ressourcen, sei es Arbeitszeit für Entwicklung und Produktion oder Kontakte zu Zulieferern. Aufgrund der Kleinheit im Marktvergleich ergeben sich signifikante Schwierigkeiten hinsichtlich der Stückzahlen, sowohl absatz- jedoch insbesondere einkaufsseitig. Die betrachteten Unternehmen bringen das benötigte Geld in der Regel selbst auf, bekommen Kapital von externen Investoren im Gegenzug für Unternehmensanteile und greifen auf öffentliche Förderungen zurück. Insbesondere die Förderungen spielen eine essentielle Rolle zur Sicherstellung der Liquidität der produzierenden Technologieunternehmen in den ersten Jahren. Um all die Herausforderungen meistern zu können und erfolgreich Unternehmen aufzubauen, agieren die Gründer vermehrt im Team anstelle als Einzelkämpfer. Somit können sie sicherstellen, ein breites Kompetenzspektrum abzudecken. In diesem Zusammenhang spielt auch die universitäre Ausbildung eine bedeutende Rolle. Der Großteil der befragten Gründer hat zumindest in einem Bereich ein Studium abgeschlossen und sich dabei Wissen auf höchstem Niveau angeeignet, wovon er im Zuge der Gründung profitiert. eingereicht von DI Florian Meier, BSc.
