To mitigate freeze-thaw damage in tunnels located in high-altitude cold regions, insulation layers are implemented to prevent the freezing of surrounding rocks. Currently, the selection of laying methods lacks a solid scientific basis, with the merits and demerits of various techniques remaining insufficiently evaluated. This study seeks to establish a scientifically grounded equilibrium between the anti-freezing efficacy and the construction impact of tunnel insulation in cold regions through the optimization of insulation design via numerical calculations. First, the advantages and disadvantages of the four insulation layer laying methods were summarized. Then, a multilayer media heat transfer model that accounts for the latent heat of phase change was developed, grounded in solid heat transfer and porous media heat transfer theories, and corroborated by typical case studies. Finally, taking Duolong tunnel as a case study, the insulation effect of various laying methods at different positions of the tunnel was analyzed based on the finite element method. The results show that the unfavorable position of the four laying methods is at the inverted arch of the tunnel, and the unfavorable time point occurs when the temperature rises from below 0℃ to above 0℃. Among the four laying methods, off-wall laying exhibits the superior insulation performance at tunnel vault, while sandwich laying has best insulation effect at the arch foot and inverted arch. The research results can provide reference and basis for the thermal insulation and anti-freezing design of tunnels in high-altitude cold regions.

Abstract Objectives We aimed to investigate the role of soluble epoxide hydrolase for hyperglycemia induced‐disruption of blood‐brain barrier (BBB) integrity after diffuse axonal injury (DAI). Methods Rat DAI hyperglycemia model was established by a lateral head rotation device and intraperitoneal injection of 50% glucose. Glial fibrillary acidic protein, ionized calcium‐binding adapter molecule‐1, β‐amyloid precursor protein, neurofilament light chain, and neurofilament heavy chain was detected by immunohistochemistry. Cell apoptosis was examined by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase nick‐end labeling (TUNEL) assay. The permeability of blood‐brain barrier (BBB) was assessed by expression of tight junction proteins, leakage of Evans blue and brain water content. The soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) pathway was inhibited by 1‐trifluoromethoxyphenyl‐3‐(1‐propionylpiperidin‐4‐yl) urea (TPPU) and the nuclear transcription factor kappa B (NF‐κB) pathway was inhibited by pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate and activated by phorbol‐12‐myristate‐13‐acetate in vivo and/or vitro, respectively. The inflammatory factors were detected by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay. Results Hyperglycemia could exacerbate axonal injury, aggravate cell apoptosis and glial activation, worsen the loss of BBB integrity, increase the release of inflammatory factors, and upregulate the expression of sEH and NF‐κB. Inhibition of sEH could reverse all these damages and protect BBB integrity by upregulating the expression of tight junction proteins and downregulating the levels of inflammatory factors in vivo and vitro, while the agonist of NF‐κB pathway abrogated the protective effects of TPPU on BBB integrity in vitro. Conclusions sEH was involved in mediating axonal injury induced by hyperglycemia after DAI by disrupting BBB integrity through inducing inflammation via the NF‐κB pathway.

This research aimed to investigate the effects of protein concentration (0.2 %-1.0 %), ionic strength (100–500 mM NaCl), and heat treatment (temperature: 80 and 90℃; time: 15 and 30 min) on the interfacial and emulsifying properties of coconut globulins (CG). When protein concentration was set at 0.2–0.6 %, the interfacial adsorption increased with the increasing of protein concentration. However, the lowest interfacial viscoelasticity was found when CG concentration was 0.6 %. When the protein concentration was higher than 0.6 %, the dilatational viscoelasticity increased with the increasing of protein concentration. The protein concentration showed positive effect on the emulsion stability of CG. The ionic strength showed positive effect on the interfacial adsorption but negative effects on the interfacial viscoelasticity and emulsion stability. Higher temperature and longer heating time brought worse interface behavior. The heated CG (90℃, 30 min) had the worst interfacial behavior but the best emulsion stability.

Carrimycin is a potential immune-regulating agent for sepsis in patients with tumors. In this study, we investigated its effects on inflammation and immune function in tumor patients with sepsis. In total, 120 participants were randomized to receive either carrimycin treatment (400 mg/day) (n = 62) or placebo (n = 58) for 7 days. The primary outcomes were immune-related indicators. Subsequently, patients were stratified into two subgroups (CD4 < 38.25% and CD8 < 25.195%). Ninety-nine participants were analyzed: 47 and 52 in the carrimycin and placebo groups, respectively. HLA-DR levels were rapidly increased in the carrimycin group; however, the placebo group initially experienced a decline in HLA-DR level at 1 day after administration. In the subgroup with CD4

The SIRT1 epigenetic regulator is involved in hepatic lipid homoeostasis. However, the role of SIRT1 in regulating intramuscular fat deposition as well as the pathways and potential epigenetic targets involved remain unknown. Herein, we investigate SIRT1 function, its genome-wide epigenetic target profile, and transcriptomic changes under SIRT1 overexpression during yak intramuscular preadipocytes differentiation. To this end, we analysed the relationship between SIRT1 and intramuscular fat content as well as lipid metabolism-related genes in longissimus dorsi tissue. We found that SIRT1 expression negatively correlates with intramuscular fat content as well as with the expression of genes related to lipid synthesis, while positively correlating with that of fatty acid oxidation-involved genes. SIRT1 overexpression in intramuscular preadipocytes significantly reduced adipose differentiation marker expression, intracellular triacylglycerol content, and lipid deposition. Chromatin immunoprecipitation coupled with high-throughput sequencing of H3K4ac (a known direct target of SIRT1) and high-throughput mRNA sequencing results revealed that SIRT1 may regulate intramuscular fat deposition via three potential new transcription factors (NRF1, NKX3.1, and EGR1) and four genes (MAPK1, RXRA, AGPAT1, and HADH) implicated in protein processing within the endoplasmic reticulum pathway and the MAPK signalling pathway in yaks. Our study provides novel insights into the role of SIRT1 in regulating yak intramuscular fat deposition and may help clarify the mechanistic determinants of yak meat characteristics.

Platelet secretion requires Soluble N-ethylmaleimide Sensitive Attachment Protein Receptors (SNAREs). Vesicle SNAREs/Vesicle-Associated Membrane Proteins (v-SNAREs/VAMPs) on granules and t-SNAREs in plasma membranes mediate granule release. Platelet VAMP heterogeneity has complicated the assessment of how/if each is used and affects hemostasis. To address the importance of VAMP-7 (V7), we analyzed mice with global deletions of V3 and V7 together or platelet-specific deletions of V2, V3, and global deletion of V7. We measured the kinetics of cargo release, and its effects on three injury models to define the context-specific roles of these VAMPs. Loss of V7 minimally affected dense and α granule release but did affect lysosomal release. V3−/−7−/− and V2Δ3Δ7−/− platelets showed partial defects in α and lysosomal release; dense granule secretion was unaffected. In vivo assays showed that loss of V2, V3, and V7 caused no bleeding or occlusive thrombosis. These data indicate a role for V7 in lysosome release that is partially compensated by V3. V7 and V3, together, contribute to α granule release, however none of these deletions affected hemostasis/thrombosis. Our results confirm the dominance of V8. When it is present, deletion of V2, V3, or V7 alone or in combination minimally affects platelet secretion and hemostasis.

AbstractIntroduction The tissue stiffness of donor kidneys in transplantation may increase due to pathological changes such as glomerulosclerosis and interstitial fibrosis, and those changes associate worse outcomes in kidney transplantation recipients. Ultrasound elastography is a noninvasive imaging examination with the ability to quantitatively reflect tissue stiffness. Aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of ultrasound elastography for adverse kidney outcome in kidney transplantation recipients.Methods Shear wave elastography (SWE) examinations were performed by two independent operators in kidney transplantation recipients. The primary outcome was a composite of kidney graft deterioration, all-cause re-hospitalization, and all-cause mortality. Survival analysis was calculated by Kaplan-Meier curves with the log-rank test and Cox regression analysis.Results A total of 161 patients (mean age 46 years, 63.4% men) were followed for a median of 20.1 months. 27 patients (16.77%) reached the primary endpoint. The mean and median tissue stiffness at the medulla (hazard ratio: 1.265 and 1.229, respectively), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), and serum albumin level were associated with the primary outcome in univariate Cox regression. Adding mean or median medulla SWE to a baseline model containing eGFR and albumin significantly improved its discrimination (C-statistics: 0.736 for the baseline, 0.766 and 0.772 for the model added mean and median medulla SWE, respectively).Conclusion The medullary tissue stiffness of kidney allograft measured by shear wave elastography may provide incremental prognostic value to adverse outcomes in kidney transplantation recipients. Including SWE parameters in kidney transplantation recipients management could be considered to improve risk stratification.

ABSTRACTLive poultry markets (LPMs) are regarded as hubs for avian influenza virus (AIV) transmission in poultry and are a major risk factor in human AIV infections. We performed an AIV surveillance study at a wholesale LPM, where different poultry species were sold in separate stalls, and nine retail LPMs, which received poultry from the wholesale LPM but where different poultry species were sold in one stall, in Guangdong province from 2017 to 2019. A higher AIV isolation rate was observed at the retail LPMs than the wholesale LPM. H9N2 was the dominant AIV subtype and was mainly present in chickens and quails. The genetic diversity of H9N2 viruses was greater at the retail LPMs, where a complex system of two-way transmission between different poultry species had formed. The isolated H9N2 viruses could be classed into four genotypes: G57 and the three novel genotypes, NG164, NG165, and NG166. The H9N2 AIVs isolated from chickens and quails at the wholesale LPM only belonged to the G57 and NG164 genotypes, respectively. However, the G57, NG164, and NG165 genotypes were identified in both chickens and quails at the retail LPMs. We found that the replication and transmission of the NG165 genotype were more adaptive to both poultry and mammalian models than those of its precursor genotype, NG164. Our findings revealed that mixed poultry selling at retail LPMs has increased the genetic diversity of AIVs, which might facilitate the emergence of novel viruses that threaten public health.

Aquaculture plays an important role in contributing to global food security and nutrition; thus, the intensification and diversification of aquaculture are increasingly considered. However, paralleling the development of the industrial scale in aquaculture, the occurrence of diseases is always an important issue that causes great losses in economics. The finding of approaches that not only improve culture production but also reduce the impact of diseases in cultured animals is crucially essential. Previously, several studies have addressed the potential application of feed additives, such as prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and microbial-derived metabolites (including short-chain fatty acids-SCFAs), in aquaculture. In this review, we provide an update focusing on the health benefits of dietary supplementation with a type of SCFAs, butyrate, and its producer, Clostridium butyricum, including their effects on growth, feed utilization, body composition, intestinal structure and function, antioxidant activity, immune response, and tolerance against stress and infection in aquatic animals. The outcomes of this study may indicate more benefits of the use of C. butyricum than that of butyrate (and its forms). This review provides general knowledge of the efficacy of butyrate and C. butyricum in aquaculture.

ABSTRACTObjectives The relationship between microbiota and HPSCC recurrence and metastasis remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the role of the tumour microbiota in the disease-free survival (DFS) of HPSCC patients.Materials and methods Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumour tissues were collected from 103 patients with HPSCC for 16S rRNA sequencing. We analysed the tumour microbiota in HPSCC patients with recurrence/metastasis and nonrecurrence/metastasis. The linear predictor score (LPS) was calculated based on the Cox regression model to assess the risk of recurrence and metastasis. Then, a time-dependent ROC curve was used to evaluate the prognostic power of the LPS.Results The phyla Bacteroidota, Firmicutes and Proteobacteria were the most abundant bacterial taxa in the tumour tissues. Eubacterium_coprostanoligenes_group (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.289, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.137–0.608, p= 0.001) and Prevotella (HR = 3.744, 95% CI 1.439–9.738, p= 0.007) were independent predictors of DFS. The predicting classifier for recurrence and metastasis risk yielded an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.838 at 3 years and 0.860 at 5 years.Conclusion Our study demonstrated the relationship between tumour microbiota and recurrence and metastasis in patients with HPSCC.

Cyclin D1 is a key regulator of cell cycle progression, which forms a complex with CDK4/6 to regulate G1/S transition during cell cycle progression. Cyclin D1 has been recognized as an oncogene since it was upregulated in several different types of cancers. It is known that the post-translational regulation of cyclin D1 is controlled by ubiquitination/proteasome degradation system in a phosphorylation-dependent manner. Several cullin-associated F-box E3 ligases have been shown to regulate cyclin D1 degradation; however, it is not known if additional cullin-associated E3 ligases participate in the regulation of cyclin D1 protein stability. In this study, we have screened an siRNA library containing siRNAs specific for 154 ligase subunits, including F-box, SOCS, BTB-containing proteins, and DDB proteins. We found that multiple cullin-associated E3 ligases regulate cyclin D1 activity, including Keap1, DDB2, and WSB2. We found that these E3 ligases interact with cyclin D1, regulate cyclin D1 ubiquitination and proteasome degradation in a phosphorylation-dependent manner. These E3 ligases also control cell cycle progression and cell proliferation through regulation of cyclin D1 protein stability. Our study provides novel insights into the regulatory mechanisms of cyclin D1 protein stability and function.

Objective Groundwater flow in fractured rocks has strong heterogeneity and anisotropy. The discrete fracture network (DFN) method has been internationally considered as one of the most reasonable and effective methods to describe the fracture water transport. Methods In this work, we focused on granite rock from an underground research laboratory site for the geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste. In addition, a high-performance numerical computing system and parallel codes were employed to develop a groundwater flow simulation method in fractured rocks based on the DFN model. Results The results indicated that the proposed method could conduct the groundwater flow simulation of DFN with thousands of mesh elements. This improved the computational efficiency and ability of the parallel codes to deal with complex models. We established the DFN model structure optimization and parameter setting methods of boundary conditions in a complex condition. This could ensure that the hydraulic heads were continuous at different scale models. Furthermore, in the model area, the hydraulic head is distributed as a network structure along fractures. For the connected fractures, the water level was continuous and changed from high to low. However, the water level in the nonconnected fractures was discontinuous. Groundwater flows along the fracture from the high water level area to the low water level area. The connectivity and permeability of the fracture network have an obvious influence on the groundwater flow characteristics. Conclusion Therefore, we could conclude that the parallel groundwater flow simulation method based on the DFN model could more reasonably reflect the groundwater flow in a fractured rock mass. It was of great significance to further improve the simulated prediction ability and deepen the understanding of groundwater flow characteristics in a fractured medium.

Abstract The spread of the threat of climate change has forced countries to try to implement the drivers of green economic growth. In this paper, we seek to explore how green growth is affected by quality language education in 23 Chinese provinces from 2010 to 2021. Employing the ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lag) approach and Pooled Mean Group (PMG) estimator, the findings confirmed that a 1% increase in the quality of language education improves sustainable economic growth in Chinese provinces by 0.69% and 0.01% in the short and long term, respectively. Furthermore, the development of sustainable electricity generation is the increasing factor of green prosperity in Chinese provinces. Moreover, any increase in waste generation will harshly impact the sustainable growth of Chinese provinces by 0.57% and 0.15% in the short and long term, respectively. The volume of green investment positively correlates with sustainable growth in Chinese provinces. As the primary policy implication, it is recommended that the Chinese government expand the education for sustainable development (ESD) program, develop social literacy on participation in sustainable power generation, and improve the SMEs' education for green job creation and sustainable investment.

Abstract Tokamaks are the most promising way for nuclear fusion reactors. Disruption in tokamaks is a violent event that terminates a confined plasma and causes unacceptable damage to the device. Machine learning models have been widely used to predict incoming disruptions. However, future reactors, with much higher stored energy, cannot provide enough unmitigated disruption data at high performance to train the predictor before damaging themselves. Here we apply a deep parameter-based transfer learning method in disruption prediction. We train a model on the J-TEXT tokamak and transfer it, with only 20 discharges, to EAST, which has a large difference in size, operation regime, and configuration with respect to J-TEXT. Results demonstrate that the transfer learning method reaches a similar performance to the model trained directly with EAST using about 1900 discharge. Our results suggest that the proposed method can tackle the challenge in predicting disruptions for future tokamaks like ITER with knowledge learned from existing tokamaks.

Abstract Distributed photovoltaics in living environment harvest the sunlight in different incident angles throughout the day. The development of planer solar cells with large light-receiving angle can reduce the requirements in installation form factor and is therefore urgently required. Here, thin film organic photovoltaics with nano-sized phase separation integrated in micro-sized surface topology is demonstrated as an ideal solution to proposed applications. All-polymer solar cells, by means of a newly developed sequential processing, show large magnitude hierarchical morphology with facilitated exciton-to-carrier conversion. The nano fibrilar donor-acceptor network and micron-scale optical field trapping structure in combination contributes to an efficiency of 19.06% (certified 18.59%), which is the highest value to date for all-polymer solar cells. Furthermore, the micron-sized surface topology also contributes to a large light-receiving angle. A 30% improvement of power gain is achieved for the hierarchical morphology comparing to the flat-morphology devices. These inspiring results show that all-polymer solar cell with hierarchical features are particularly suitable for the commercial applications of distributed photovoltaics due to its low installation requirement.

Abstract Objectives Built on the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework, this study examined how physical activity affected the subjective well-being of adolescents in the multi-ethnic area of southwest China. The mediating role of school connectedness as an external development asset and the moderating role of resilience as an internal development asset were specified and tested within the framework of sport-based PYD. Methods A cross-sectional survey of 3143 adolescents (47.2% boys with mean age = 12.88 and SD = 1.68) was conducted in 2020. A structural equation model (SEM) was developed to estimate the direct effect of physical activity, the mediating effect of school connectedness, and the moderating effect of resilience on adolescents’ subjective well-being. Multi-group comparison was made to investigate differences and similarities across three parental absence subgroups: (1) both parents present, (2) one parent absent, and (3) both parents absent. Results As surmised, physical activity, school connectedness, and resilience all positively and significantly affected adolescents’ subjective well-being. SEM analyses revealed that school connectedness mediated the effect of physical activity on subjective well-being. Moreover, resilience moderated both the direct and indirect effects of physical activity (through school connectedness) on subjective well-being. Finally, the multi-group comparison revealed a moderating effect of parental absence on the moderated mediation model. Limitations This study is a cross-sectional survey, so inference of causal associations among the study variables is impossible. Conclusions Healthy lifestyle behaviors, school-supportive settings, and positive individual development assets can enhance the subjective well-being of adolescents in southwest China, especially those whose parents were absent. Physical activity interventions informed by the PYD framework should be incorporated into public health programs designed to foster the physical and mental health of left-behind adolescents in southwest China.

Abstract Background Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) is a vital pro-oncogenic bacterium. Our previous study revealed that a high abundance of F. nucleatum in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is correlated with poor patient prognosis. However, the impact of F. nucleatum on metabolic reprogramming and tumor progression in HNSCC awaits more exploration. Methods Liquid chromatography‒mass spectrometry (LC‒MS) was applied to analyze the altered metabolites in a head and neck carcinoma cell line (AMC-HN-8) after coculture with F. nucleatum for 24 hrs and 48 hrs. Both univariate and multivariate analyses were used to screen for differential metabolites. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) metabolic pathway enrichment analysis was further used to explore the metabolic changes. Results We observed a significantly altered metabolic profile in AMC-HN-8 cells over time after coculture with F. nucleatum. Among the several enriched pathways, the purine metabolic pathway was the most significantly enriched (P = 0.0005), with downregulation of purine degradation. Furthermore, uric acid, the end product of purine metabolism, significantly reversed F. nucleatum-triggered tumor progression and altered the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level. Moreover, the negative correlation between the serum uric acid level and the abundance of F. nucleatum was verified in 113 HNSCC patients (P = 0.0412, R = − 0.1924). Conclusions Our study revealed obviously aberrant purine metabolism driven by F. nucleatum in HNSCC, which was closely related to tumor progression and patient prognosis. These findings indicate the possibility of targeting F. nucleatum-induced purine metabolism reprogramming in the future treatment of HNSCC.

Abstract We provide mass/energy formulas for the extended thermodynamics, mixed thermodynamics, and holographic conformal field theory (CFT) thermodynamics for the charged and rotating Kerr-Newman Anti-de Sitter black holes. Then for the CFT thermal states dual to the black hole, we find the first-order phase transitions and criticality phenomena in the canonical ensemble with fixed angular momentum, volume, and central charge. We observe that the CFT states cannot be analogous to the Van der Waals fluids, despite the critical exponents falling into the universality class predicted by the mean field theory. Additionally, we examine the (de)confinement phase transitions within the grand canonical ensemble with fixed angular velocity, volume, and central charge of the CFT. Our findings suggest that the near zero temperature (de)confinement phase transitions can occur with the angular velocity of the CFT that solely depends on the CFT volume.

Abstract Setting the cosmological constant to be dynamical, we study the bulk and boundary thermodynamics of charged Anti-de Sitter black holes. We develop mass/energy formulas in terms of thermodynamic state functions for the extended thermodynamics, mixed thermodynamics, and boundary conformal field theory thermodynamics. We employ the residue method to study the topological properties of the phase transitions. Our analysis reveals that the bulk and boundary thermodynamics are topologically equivalent for both criticalities and first-order phase transitions in the canonical ensembles, as well as for the Hawking-Page(-like) phase transitions in the grand canonical ensembles. Additionally, those three kinds of phase transitions are shown to be distinguished by their unique topological charges. Our results exemplify the gravity-gauge duality in terms of topology.

Abstract Background In clinical practice, reducing unnecessary biopsies for mammographic BI-RADS 4 lesions is crucial. The objective of this study was to explore the potential value of deep transfer learning (DTL) based on the different fine-tuning strategies for Inception V3 to reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies that residents need to perform for mammographic BI-RADS 4 lesions. Methods A total of 1980 patients with breast lesions were included, including 1473 benign lesions (185 women with bilateral breast lesions), and 692 malignant lesions collected and confirmed by clinical pathology or biopsy. The breast mammography images were randomly divided into three subsets, a training set, testing set, and validation set 1, at a ratio of 8:1:1. We constructed a DTL model for the classification of breast lesions based on Inception V3 and attempted to improve its performance with 11 fine-tuning strategies. The mammography images from 362 patients with pathologically confirmed BI-RADS 4 breast lesions were employed as validation set 2. Two images from each lesion were tested, and trials were categorized as correct if the judgement (≥ 1 image) was correct. We used precision (Pr), recall rate (Rc), F1 score (F1), and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) as the performance metrics of the DTL model with validation set 2. Results The S5 model achieved the best fit for the data. The Pr, Rc, F1 and AUROC of S5 were 0.90, 0.90, 0.90, and 0.86, respectively, for Category 4. The proportions of lesions downgraded by S5 were 90.73%, 84.76%, and 80.19% for categories 4 A, 4B, and 4 C, respectively. The overall proportion of BI-RADS 4 lesions downgraded by S5 was 85.91%. There was no significant difference between the classification results of the S5 model and pathological diagnosis (P = 0.110). Conclusion The S5 model we proposed here can be used as an effective approach for reducing the number of unnecessary biopsies that residents need to conduct for mammographic BI-RADS 4 lesions and may have other important clinical uses.

Abstract Background Deep learning has been extensively used in digital histopathology. The purpose of this study was to test deep learning (DL) algorithms for predicting the vital status of whole-slide image (WSI) of uveal melanoma (UM). Methods We developed a deep learning model (Google-net) to predict the vital status of UM patients from histopathological images in TCGA-UVM cohort and validated it in an internal cohort. The histopathological DL features extracted from the model and then were applied to classify UM patients into two subtypes. The differences between two subtypes in clinical outcomes, tumor mutation, and microenvironment, and probability of drug therapeutic response were investigated further. Results We observed that the developed DL model can achieve a high accuracy of > = 90% for patches and WSIs prediction. Using 14 histopathological DL features, we successfully classified UM patients into Cluster1 and Cluster2 subtypes. Compared to Cluster2, patients in the Cluster1 subtype have a poor survival outcome, increased expression levels of immune-checkpoint genes, higher immune-infiltration of CD8 + T cell and CD4 + T cells, and more sensitivity to anti-PD-1 therapy. Besides, we established and verified prognostic histopathological DL-signature and gene-signature which outperformed the traditional clinical features. Finally, a well-performed nomogram combining the DL-signature and gene-signature was constructed to predict the mortality of UM patients. Conclusions Our findings suggest that DL model can accurately predict vital status in UM patents just using histopathological images. We found out two subgroups based on histopathological DL features, which may in favor of immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Finally, a well-performing nomogram that combines DL-signature and gene-signature was constructed to give a more straightforward and reliable prognosis for UM patients in treatment and management.

Recently, high-performance thin-film lithium niobate optical modulators have emerged that, together with advanced multiplexing technologies, are highly expected to satisfy the ever-growing demand for high-capacity optical interconnects utilizing multiple channels. Accordingly, in this study, a compact lithium-niobate-on-insulator (LNOI) photonic chip was adopted to establish four-channel wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) transmitters, comprising four optical modulators based on ultracompact 2 × 2 Fabry-Perot cavities and a four-channel WDM filter based on multimode waveguide gratings. The fabricated chip with four wavelength channels has a total footprint as compact as 0.3 × 2.8 mm2, and exhibits an excess loss of ~0.8 dB as well as low inter-channel crosstalk of < –22 dB. Using this LNOI photonic chip, high-capacity data transmissions of 320 Gbps (4 × 80 Gbps) on-off-keying signals and 400 Gbps (4 × 100 Gbps) four-level pulse amplitude signals were successfully realized with the ultra-low power consumption of 11.9 fJ/bit.

Abstract Background Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, it is unknown whether the ratio of forced vital capacity (FVC) to diffusing lung capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) can identify PH in the patients with COPD and predict its prognosis. Methods The study population I included 937 COPD patients who were admitted to inpatient treatments from 2010 to 2017, and finally 750 patients were available to follow-up the 5-year all-cause mortality (study population II). Clinical characteristics of the study population were recorded. Results COPD patients with PH had a higher FVC/DLCO value compared with the patients without PH. The threshold for FVC/DLCO to identify PH in COPD patients was 0.44 l/mmol/min/kPa. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that FVC/DLCO was a significant predictor for PH in the patients with COPD. The study population II showed that the 5-year all-cause mortality of COPD patients was significantly higher in combined with PH group than without PH group. Compared with the survivor group, FVC/DLCO value was significantly increased in non-survivor group. The threshold for FVC/DLCO to predict 5-year all-cause mortality was 0.41 l/mmol/min/kPa. Kaplan–Meier survival curves showed that 5-year cumulative survival rate for COPD patients were significantly decreased when the value of FVC/DLCO was ≥ 0.41 l/mmol/min/kPa. Multivariate cox regression analysis showed that FVC/DLCO was an independent prognostic factor for 5-year all-cause mortality in COPD patients. Conclusion FVC/DLCO could identify PH in the patients with COPD and was an independent predictor for 5-year all-cause mortality of COPD.

Abstract Background and aim Prognosis determination is essential for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patient management and treatment planning. The current study aimed to evaluate the prognosis performance of NLR, ALBI, and the combination of NLR-ALBI in determining the overall survival (OS) of HCC patients under curative hepatectomy. Methods 144 primary HCC patients with curative hepatectomy were recruited in the retrospective study. The clinicopathologic characteristics and OS were compared between stratified groups. The predictive performance of NLR, ALBI, and the combination of NLR-ALBI was explored by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the risk factors of OS. Results AUC determined NLR cutoff > 2.60 for predicting prognosis. The univariate analysis indicated pathological differentiation, tumor size, AFP, TNM stage, NLR score, and ALBI grade were significant indicators of OS. However, only TMN grade, AFP, NLR score, and NLR-ALBI score were identified as independent predictors of OS in the multivariable analysis. The AUC of NLR, ALBI and the combination of NLR-ALBI was 0.618(95%CI 0.56–0.710), 0.533 (95%CI 0.437–0.629), 0.679 (95%CI 0.592–0.767) respectively. Patients with higher NLR-ALBI scores presented worse outcomes than those with lower NLR-ALBI scores. Conclusion NLR is an independent prognostic factor of HCC and a reliable biomarker in predicting the OS of HCC patients. The combination of NLR-ALBI showed a better prognostic performance than using NLR or ALBI alone, implicating the effectiveness and feasibility of combining multiple risk factors for postoperative prognosis assessment.

The exposure of ethanol increases the risk of head and neck inflammation and tumor progression. However, limited studies have investigated the composition and functionality of laryngeal microbiota under ethanol exposure. We established an ethanol-exposed mouse model to investigate the changes in composition and function of laryngeal microbiota using Metagenomic shotgun sequencing. In the middle and late stages of the experiment, the laryngeal microbiota of mice exposed to ethanol exhibited obvious distinguished from that of the control group on principal-coordinate analysis (PCoA) plots. Among the highly abundant species, Salmonella enterica and Mycobacterium marinum were likely to be most impacted. Our findings indicated that the exposure to ethanol significantly increased their abundance in larynxes in mice of the same age, which has been confirmed through FISH experiments. Among the species-related functions and genes, metabolism is most severely affected by ethanol. The difference was most obvious in the second month of the experiment, which may be alleviated later because the animal established tolerance. Notable enrichments concerning energy, amino acid, and carbohydrate metabolic pathways occurred during the second month under ethanol exposure. Finally, based on the correlation between species and functional variations, a network was established to investigate relationships among microbiota, functional pathways, and related genes affected by ethanol. Our data first demonstrated the continuous changes of abundance, function and their interrelationship of laryngeal microbiota under ethanol exposure by Metagenomic shotgun sequencing. Importance: Ethanol may participate in the inflammation and tumor progression by affecting the composition of the laryngeal microbiota. Here, we applied the metagenomic shotgun sequencing instead of 16 S rRNA sequencing method to identify the laryngeal microbiota under ethanol exposure. Salmonella enterica and Mycobacterium marinum are two dominant species that may play a role in the reconstruction of the laryngeal microenvironment, as their local abundance increases following exposure to ethanol. The metabolic function is most evidently impacted, and several potential metabolic pathways could be associated with alterations in microbiota composition. These findings could help us better understand the impact of prolonged ethanol exposure on the microbial composition and functionality in the larynx.

In order to address the challenges of resource utilization posed by construction waste, the substitution of natural aggregate (NA) with public fill (PF) contents was investigated for load reclamation and road grassroots applications. A comprehensive assessment of road performance for the recycled mixture was conducted, focusing on parameters such as unconfined compressive strength, splitting strength, compressive resilience modulus, dry shrinkage, and frost resistance. Additionally, the impact of incorporating PF at various types and replacement ratios on the microstructure of cement-stabilized aggregate (CSA) was analyzed. The results indicated that the unconfined compressive strength of cement-stabilized recycled mixture with varying PF contents meets the base strength requirements for heavy, medium, and light traffic pavement on secondary and sub-secondary roads in China. Notably, the unconfined compressive strength and resilience modulus follow a similar pattern, reaching their peak at a 25% PF content. Microscopic examination reveals that an appropriate PF content leads to the predominant formation of C(N)-A-S-H, hydrotalcite, Ca(OH)2, and CaCO3 as paste reaction products. As the replacement of public fill increases from 0% to 25%, there is a gradual stacking of gel products, which enhances the compactness of the microstructure by cementing together unreacted particles. Consequently, this process reduces dry shrinkage strain and effectively mitigates the formation of reflection cracks. Applying large quantities of public fill to road construction can effectively deal with various waste accumulation problems and produce a novel road material with significant social, economic, and environmental benefits.

During the landing and taxiing process of aircraft, the frame-type landing gear (FTLG) usually generates large pitch vibrations under external excitation. Excessive vibration increases localized loads on the landing gear, which may lead to localized failure of the structure. To minimize this undesirable vibration, a passive oil–pneumatic pitch-stabilizing buffer (PSB) is designed in this paper to provide pitch damping. This paper applies the basic principles of dynamics to establish a dynamic model of FTLG considering the influence of PSB. And based on the design of experiments (DOE) method, by changing the filling parameters and structural parameters of PSB, the results of the changes of the frame vibration angle, angular velocity, and landing gear load are obtained, so as to analyze the effects of different parameters on the dynamic performance of the landing gear in the landing and taxiing process. The results demonstrate that increasing the oil damping coefficient of PSB and decreasing the installation angle of PSB on the main strut during the landing period resulted in less frame vibration and lower wheelset load ratios, but increased the landing overloads of landing gears. In the taxiing phase, increasing the PSB air spring stiffness can effectively reduce the frame vibration caused by the uneven road surface. The PSB structural parameters have little effect on the dynamic performance of FTLG.

Bone marrow lesion (BML) volume is a potential biomarker of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) as it is associated with cartilage degeneration and pain. However, segmenting and quantifying the BML volume is challenging due to the small size, low contrast, and various positions where the BML may occur. It is also time-consuming to delineate BMLs manually. In this paper, we proposed a fully automatic segmentation method for BMLs without requiring human intervention. The model takes intermediate weighted fat-suppressed (IWFS) magnetic resonance (MR) images as input, and the output BML masks are evaluated using both regular 2D Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of the slice-level area metric and 3D DSC of the subject-level volume metric. On a dataset with 300 subjects, each subject has a sequence of 36 IWFS MR images approximately. We randomly separated the dataset into training, validation, and testing sets with a 70%/15%/15% split at the subject level. Since not every subject or image has a BML, we excluded the images without a BML in each subset. The ground truth of the BML was labeled by trained medical staff using a semi-automatic tool. Compared with the ground truth, the proposed segmentation method achieved a Pearson’s correlation coefficient of 0.98 between the manually measured volumes and automatically segmented volumes, a 2D DSC of 0.68, and a 3D DSC of 0.60 on the testing set. Although the DSC result is not high, the high correlation of 0.98 indicates that the automatically measured BML volume is strongly correlated with the manually measured BML volume, which shows the potential to use the proposed method as an automatic measurement tool for the BML biomarker to facilitate the assessment of knee OA progression.

The properties of xanthan gum protein gels composed of quinoa protein (XG-QPG) and ultrasound-treated quinoa protein (XG-UQPG) were compared for the preparation of high-quality quinoa protein gels. The gel qualities at different pH values were compared. The gels were used to produce eggless bread. Microscopically, the secondary structure of the proteins in XG-QPG (pH 7.0) was mainly α-helix, followed by random coiling. In contrast, the content of β-sheet in XG-UQPG was higher, relative to the viscoelastic properties of the gel. Moreover, the free sulfhydryl groups and disulfide bonds of XG-QPG (pH 7.0) were 48.30 and 38.17 µmol/g, while XG-UQPG (pH 7.0) was 31.95 and 61.58 µmol/g, respectively. A high disulfide bond content was related to the formation of gel networks. From a macroscopic perspective, XG-QPG (pH 7.0) exhibited different pore sizes, XG-UQPG (pH 7.0) displayed a loose structure with uniform pores, and XG-UQPG (pH 4.5) exhibited a dense structure with small pores. These findings suggest that ultrasound can promote the formation of a gel by XG-UQPG (pH 7.0) that has a loose structure and high water-holding capacity and that XG-UQPG (pH 4.5) forms a gel with a dense structure and pronounced hardness. Furthermore, the addition of the disulfide bond-rich XG-UQPG (pH 7.0) to bread promoted the formation of gel networks, resulting in elastic, soft bread. In contrast, XG-UQPG (pH 4.5) resulted in firm bread. These findings broaden the applications of quinoa in food and provide a good egg substitute for quinoa protein gels.

Rotary machines commonly use rolling element bearings to support rotation of the shafts. Most machine performance imperfections are related to bearing defects. Thus, reliable bearing condition monitoring systems are critically needed in industries to provide early warning of bearing fault so as to prevent machine performance degradation and reduce maintenance costs. The objective of this paper is to develop a smart monitoring system for real-time bearing fault detection and diagnostics. Firstly, a smart sensor-based data acquisition (DAQ) system is developed for wireless vibration signal collection. Secondly, a modified variational mode decomposition (MVMD) technique is proposed for nonstationary signal analysis and bearing fault detection. The proposed MVMD technique has several processing steps: (1) the signal is decomposed into a series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs); (2) a correlation kurtosis method is suggested to choose the most representative IMFs and construct the analytical signal; (3) envelope spectrum analysis is performed to identify the representative features and to predict bearing fault. The effectiveness of the developed smart sensor DAQ system and the proposed MVMD technique is examined by systematic experimental tests.

The self-supervised learning (SSL) technique, driven by massive unlabeled data, is expected to be a promising solution for semantic segmentation of remote sensing images (RSIs) with limited labeled data, revolutionizing transfer learning. Traditional ‘local-to-local’ transfer from small, local datasets to another target dataset plays an ever-shrinking role due to RSIs’ diverse distribution shifts. Instead, SSL promotes a ‘global-to-local’ transfer paradigm, in which generalized models pre-trained on arbitrarily large unlabeled datasets are fine-tuned to the target dataset to overcome data distribution shifts. However, the SSL pre-trained models may contain both useful and useless features for the downstream semantic segmentation task, due to the gap between the SSL tasks and the downstream task. To adapt such pre-trained models to semantic segmentation tasks, traditional supervised fine-tuning methods that use only a small number of labeled samples may drop out useful features due to overfitting. The main reason behind this is that supervised fine-tuning aims to map a few training samples from the high-dimensional, sparse image space to the low-dimensional, compact semantic space defined by the downstream labels, resulting in a degradation of the distinguishability. To address the above issues, we propose a class distinguishability-enhanced self-training (CDEST) method to support global-to-local transfer. First, the self-training module in CDEST introduces a semi-supervised learning mechanism to fully utilize the large amount of unlabeled data in the downstream task to increase the size and diversity of the training data, thus alleviating the problem of biased overfitting of the model. Second, the supervised and semi-supervised contrastive learning modules of CDEST can explicitly enhance the class distinguishability of features, helping to preserve the useful features learned from pre-training while adapting to downstream tasks. We evaluate the proposed CDEST method on four RSI semantic segmentation datasets, and our method achieves optimal experimental results on all four datasets compared to supervised fine-tuning as well as three semi-supervised fine-tuning methods.

It has been rarely reported that a stuck optical coherence tomography (OCT) catheter can lead to longitudinal stent deformation (LSD). This complication can result in incomplete stent apposition and dissection after stent implantation. In this study, we present a case where a bailout stent was implanted in the distal segment of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) after longitudinal stent deformation caused by a stuck OCT catheter. This approach was taken to prevent acute stent thrombosis, subacute stent thrombosis, in-stent restenosis (ISR), and death. The patients were followed up for one year, and no adverse events were observed.

The full Poincaré (FP) beam, encompassing all possible polarization states in its beam cross-section, has demonstrated advantages in various applications. However, conventional FP beams are typically considered as spatially fully coherent, rendering them sensitive to disturbances in the propagation path and susceptible to speckle effects. In this work, we propose an alternative approach to synthesize the optical beam with a FP polarization state through the spatial coherence engineering of a partially coherent beam. In this process, the FP polarization state is initially encoded into the spatial coherence structure of the beam source. We demonstrate that during the encoding process, the vector nature of the beam transitions from the FP polarization state to the spatial coherence structure of the source. However, during the propagation of the partially coherent beam, the vectorness reverts to the polarization state, resulting in the re-emergence of the encoded FP polarization in the output plane. We illustrate that the synthesized FP polarization state, achieved through spatial coherence engineering, is highly robust against obstructions in the propagation path. Furthermore, we examine the effect of the spatial coherence area of the beam on the quality of the recovered FP polarization state. The findings of this work can have valuable applications in optical trapping and optical imaging in complex environments.

A variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders have recently been shown to be highly associated with the abnormal development and function of oligodendrocytes (OLs) and interneurons. OLs are the myelin-forming cells in the central nervous system (CNS), while interneurons are important neural types gating the function of excitatory neurons. These two types of cells are of great significance for the establishment and function of neural circuits, and they share similar developmental origins and transcriptional architectures, and interact with each other in multiple ways during development. In this review, we compare the similarities and differences in these two cell types, providing an important reference and further revealing the pathogenesis of related brain disorders.

With the increasingly strict limitations on emission standards of vehicles, deep desulfurization in fuel is indispensable for social development worldwide. In this study, a series of hybrid materials based on SiO2-supported polyoxometalate ionic liquid were successfully prepared via a facile ball milling method and employed as catalysts in the aerobic oxidative desulfurization process. The composition and structure of prepared samples were studied by various techniques, including FT-IR, UV-vis DRS, wide-angle XRD, BET, XPS, and SEM images. The experimental results indicated that the synthesized polyoxometalate ionic liquids were successfully loaded on SiO2 with a highly uniform dispersion. The prepared catalyst (C16PMoV/10SiO2) exhibited good desulfurization activity on different sulfur compounds. Moreover, the oxidation product and active species in the ODS process were respectively investigated via GC-MS and ESR analysis, indicating that the catalyst can activate oxygen to superoxide radicals during the reaction to convert DBT to its corresponding sulfone in the fuel.

Surface roughness prediction is a pivotal aspect of the manufacturing industry, as it directly influences product quality and process optimization. This study introduces a predictive model for surface roughness in the turning of complex-structured workpieces utilizing Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) informed by vibration signals. The model captures parameters from both the time and frequency domains of the turning tool, encompassing the mean, median, standard deviation (STD), and root mean square (RMS) values. The signal is from the time to frequency domain and it is executed using Welch’s method complemented by time–frequency domain analysis employing three levels of Daubechies Wavelet Packet Transform (WPT). The selected features are then utilized as inputs for the GPR model to forecast surface roughness. Empirical evidence indicates that the GPR model can accurately predict the surface roughness of turned complex-structured workpieces. This predictive strategy has the potential to improve product quality, streamline manufacturing processes, and minimize waste within the industry.

The adsorption and diffusion of oxygen at the B2(110)[1¯11]||O(001)[11¯0] interface in Ti2AlNb alloys were investigated via first-principles calculations. Only a 2.6% interfacial mismatch indicates that B2(110)–O(001) is basically a stable coherent interface. The calculated adsorption energies and diffusion energy barriers show that oxygen prefers to occupy the Ti-rich interstitial sites, and once trapped, it hardly diffuses to other interstitial sites, thus promoting the preferential formation of Ti oxides. Under the premise of a Ti-rich environment, a Nb-rich environment is more favorable for oxygen adsorption than an Al-rich environment. The electronic structures suggest that O 2p orbitals mainly occupy the energy region below −5 eV, bonding with its coordinated atoms of Ti, Al, and Nb. However, Al 3p and Nb 4d orbitals near the Fermi level couple with sparsely distributed O 2p orbitals, forming anti-bonding, which is not conducive to oxygen adsorption. Because Nb 4d electrons are more localized than Al 3p electrons are, Nb–O anti-bonding is weaker. O–Ti has almost no contribution to anti-bonding, suggesting good bonding between them. This is consistent with the experimental observations that TiO2 is the main oxidation product.

To analyze the effect of static eccentricity on the air ingestion distribution and vibration damping properties of the SFD, a numerical simulation study of SFDs considering two-phase flow was carried out based on CFD using a transient solution method and dynamic mesh technique. The results show that the angle between the static eccentricity direction and the circumferential direction of the oil supply hole increases and the air ingestion area in the oil film expands. In contrast, the oil film damping decreases, and the larger the static eccentricity distance, the greater its effect on the air ingestion area in the oil film. When the circumferential angle is small, the oil film damping increases with the increase of static eccentricity distance, and when the circumferential angle is large, the oil film damping decreases with the increase of static eccentricity distance and then increases. With the increase of static eccentricity distance, the air ingestion area at both ends of the oil film increases. At the same time, studying the effect of dynamic eccentricity shows that as the dynamic eccentricity increases, the oil film damping first decreases and then increases, and the air ingestion area increases. Comparing the 1 hole, the 2 hole, and the 3 hole oil supplies, the air ingestion area is significantly larger in the 1 hole oil supply than in the 2 hole or the 3 hole oil supplies, and the oil film damping of the 1 hole oil supply is smaller than the oil film damping of the 2 hole or the 3 hole oil supplies. It can be seen from the present study that in the actual installation of the SFD, when the circumferential angle is less than 60°, the static eccentricity can be increased appropriately. When the circumferential angle is greater than 60°, the static eccentricity can be appropriately reduced.

In our research on naturally occurring sesquiterpenes, eight shizukaol-type dimers, one chlorahololide-type dimer, and one sarcanolide-type dimer were isolated from the roots of Chloranthus fortunei. As the project was implemented, we accidentally discovered that shizukaol-type dimers can be converted into peroxidized chlorahololide-type dimers. This potential change was discovered after simulations of the changes in corresponding shizukaols showed that three peroxide products were generated (1–3), indicating that peroxidation reactions occurred. HPLC-HR-MS analysis results obtained for the shizukaol derivatives further demonstrate that the reaction occurred, and the type of substituent of small organic ester moieties at positions C-15’ and C-13’ of unit B were not decisively related to the reaction. Quantum chemical calculations of the mode dimer further demonstrated this phenomenon. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO)–lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy of the precursor and production revealed the advantageous yield of 4β-hydroperoxyl production. Additionally, the potential reaction mechanism was speculated and validated using the free energy in the reaction which successfully explained the feasibility of the reaction. Finally, the anti-inflammatory activity of the precursors and products was evaluated, and the products of peroxidation showed better anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract Background Giant hepatic hemangiomas are rare and can cause serious complications that contribute to a high risk of perinatal mortality. The purpose of this article is to review the prenatal imaging features, treatment, pathology, and prognosis of an atypical fetal giant hepatic hemangioma and to discuss the differential diagnosis of fetal hepatic masses. Case presentation A gravida 9, para 0 woman at 32 gestational weeks came to our institution for prenatal ultrasound diagnosis. A complex, heterogeneous hepatic mass measuring 5.2 × 4.1 × 3.7 cm was discovered in the fetus using conventional two-dimensional ultrasound. The mass was solid and had both a high peak systolic velocity (PSV) of the feeding artery and intratumoral venous flow. Fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a clear, hypointense T1-W and hyperintense T2-W solid hepatic mass. Prenatal diagnosis was very difficult due to the overlap of benign and malignant imaging features on prenatal ultrasound and MRI. Even postnatally, neither contrast-enhanced MRI nor contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) was useful in accurately diagnosing this hepatic mass. Due to persistently elevated Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), a laparotomy was performed. Histopathological examination of the mass showed atypical features such as hepatic sinus dilation, hyperemia, and hepatic chordal hyperplasia. The patient was ultimately diagnosed with a giant hemangioma, and the prognosis was satisfactory. Conclusions When a hepatic vascular mass is found in a third trimester fetus a hemangioma should be considered as a possible diagnosis. However, prenatal diagnosis of fetal hepatic hemangiomas can be challenging due to atypical histopathological findings. Imaging and histopathological assays can provide useful information for the diagnosis and treatment of fetal hepatic masses.

Abstract Background Pituitary dysfunction (PD) is a common complication after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). The prevalence of PD varies widely at a global level and no recent meta-analysis is available. Therefore, the aim of our systematic review and meta-analysis was to summarize the updated estimates of worldwide prevalence of PD after aSAH. Methods Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and PubMed databases were used to comprehensively search the appropriate literature and a random-effects meta-analysis on the results of the available studies was performed. The heterogeneity in the prevalence estimates was evaluated by subgroup analysis in terms of types of PD, and acute and chronic phases of aSAH. The onset of PD within 6 months after aSAH was considered as acute, while that after 6 months was considered as chronic. Results Twenty-seven studies with 1848 patients were included in this analysis. The pooled prevalence of PD in the acute phase was 49.6% (95% CI, 32.4-66.8%), and 30.4% (95% CI, 21.4-39.4%) in the chronic phase. Among the hormonal deficiencies, growth hormone dysfunction was the most prevalent in the acute phase, being 36.0% (95% CI, 21.0-51.0%), while hypoadrenalism was the most prevalent in the chronic phase, being 21.0% (95% CI, 12.0-29.0%). Abstract Black hole echo is an important observable that can help us better understand gravitational theories. The non-linear electrodynamic black holes can admit multi-horizon, and the destruction of outer horizons does not violate the weak cosmic censorship, which leads to the multi-peak effective potential for the scalar perturbations and give rise to the echoes. Putting the initial wave packet released outside the peaks, we find that the time-domain profile of the echo will split when the peaks of the effective potential change from two to three. This is a distinctive phenomenon of black hole echo and it might be possible to determine the geometric structure of the non-linear electrodynamic black hole. We also analyse the properties of echo produced by different kinds of effective potentials.

Abstract Air pollution is an important issue affecting sustainable development in China, and accurate air quality prediction has become an important means of air pollution control. At present, traditional methods, such as deterministic and statistical approaches, have large prediction errors and cannot provide effective information to prevent the negative effects of air pollution. Therefore, few existing methods could obtain accurate air pollutant time series predictions. To this end, a deep learning-based air pollutant prediction method, namely, the autocorrelation error-Informer (AE-Informer) model, is proposed in this study. The model implements the AE based on the Informer model. The AE-Informer model is used to predict the hourly concentrations of multiple air pollutants, including PM10, PM2.5, NO2, and O3. The experimental results show that the mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE) values of AE-Informer in multivariate prediction are 3% less than those of the Informer model; thus, the prediction error is effectively reduced. In addition, a stacking ensemble model is proposed to supplement the missing air pollutant time series data. This study uses Henan Province in China as an example to test the validity of the proposed methodology.

The mechanisms that regulate the specificity and maintenance of chicken muscle fiber types remain largely unknown. In mammals, CSRP3 has been shown to play a vital role in the maintenance of typical muscle structure and function. This study investigated the role that CSRP3 plays in chicken skeletal muscle. First, the antibody against chicken CSRP3 protein was prepared, and the expression levels of the mRNA and protein of the CSRP3 gene in four chicken skeletal muscles with different myofiber compositions were compared. Then the effects of CSRP3 silencing on the expression profile of chicken myoblast transcriptomes were analyzed. Poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) are promising candidates used as solid electrolytes because of their excellent electrochemical properties and improved processability. Introducing light-sensitive groups to PILs appears as an attractive strategy for developing novel smart PIL-based electronic devices. In this work, a new photoresponsive PIL-based solid electrolyte was prepared by blending PILs containing coumarin groups (COU-PILs) with polyvinylidene fluoride hexafluoropropylene. It was found that the ionic conductivity of COU-PIL solid electrolytes (COU-PIL SEs) can be reversibly modulated upon alternative 365 and 254 nm light irradiation. In particular, the COU-PIL SEs exhibit a highly reversible and repeatable manipulation of ionic conductivity with a maximum conductivity modulation of 95%. This reversible control over ionic conductivity is attributed to the photodimerization/photocleavage behavior of the coumarin groups.

Abstract Background Interspecific hybridization plays vital roles in enriching animal diversity, while male hybrid sterility (MHS) of the offspring commonly suffered from spermatogenic arrest constitutes the postzygotic reproductive isolation. Cattle-yak, the hybrid offspring of cattle (Bos taurus) and yak (Bos grunniens) can serve as an ideal MHS animal model. Although meiotic arrest was found to contribute to MHS of cattle-yak, yet the cellular characteristics and developmental potentials of male germline cell in pubertal cattle-yak remain to be systematically investigated. Results Single-cell RNA-seq analysis of germline and niche cell types in pubertal testis of cattle-yak and yak indicated that dynamic gene expression of developmental germ cells was terminated at late primary spermatocyte (meiotic arrest) and abnormal components of niche cell in pubertal cattle-yak. Further in vitro proliferation and differentially expressed gene (DEG) analysis of specific type of cells revealed that undifferentiated spermatogonia of cattle-yak exhibited defects in viability and proliferation/differentiation potentials. Conclusion Comparative scRNA-seq and in vitro proliferation analysis of testicular cells indicated that not only meiotic arrest contributed to MHS of cattle-yak. Spermatogenic arrest of cattle-yak may originate from the differentiation stage of undifferentiated spermatogonia and niche cells of cattle-yak may provide an adverse microenvironment for spermatogenesis.

Analysts' earnings pressure not only drives corporate managers to improve short-term financial performance but also encourages them to engage in myopic decisions detrimental to environmental performance. However, evidence on whether analysts' earnings pressure affects environmental information disclosure of firms is limited. Hence, we explore the effect of analysts' earnings pressure on corporate environmental information disclosure using panel data on environmental information disclosure of Chinese listed firms covering from 2013 to 2019. The results suggest that firms with higher analysts' earnings pressure have lower levels of environmental information disclosure. The abatement of environmental expenditure is the main mechanism of the negative effect of analysts' earnings pressure on environmental information disclosure. Furthermore, firms with lower pressure-sensitive institutional ownership and ownership concentration and higher proportions of independent directors and securities background directors are less likely to reduce the levels of environmental information disclosure in response to analysts' earnings pressure. Our results not only facilitate recognizing the hindering factors of corporate environmental information disclosure but also provide insights for urging firms under earnings pressure to disclose high-level environmental information and realize sustainable green development.

Abstract Genomic studies have demonstrated a high frequency of genetic alterations in components of the SWI/SNF complex including the core subunit SMARCA4. However, the mechanisms of tumorigenesis driven by SMARCA4 mutations, particularly in colorectal cancer (CRC), remain largely unknown. In this study, we identified a specific, hotspot mutation in SMARCA4 (c. 3721C>T) which results in a conversion from arginine to tryptophan at residue 1157 (R1157W) in human CRC tissues associated with higher-grade tumors and controls CRC progression. Mechanistically, we found that the SMARCA4R1157W mutation facilitated its recruitment to PRMT1-mediated H4R3me2a (asymmetric dimethylation of Arg 3 in histone H4) and enhanced the ATPase activity of SWI/SNF complex to remodel chromatin in CRC cells. We further showed that the SMARCA4R1157W mutant reinforced the transcriptional expression of EGFR and TNS4 to promote the proliferation of CRC cells and patient-derived tumor organoids. Importantly, we demonstrated that SMARCA4R1157W CRC cells and mutant cell-derived xenografts were more sensitive to the combined inhibition of PRMT1 and SMARCA4 which act synergistically to suppress cell proliferation. Together, our findings show that SMARCA4-R1157W is a critical activating mutation, which accelerates CRC progression through facilitating chromatin recruitment and remodeling. Our results suggest a potential precision therapeutic strategy for the treatment of CRC patients carrying the SMARCA4R1157W mutation.
