155. Rational Design of Highly Efficient PdIn–In2O3Interfaces by a Capture-Alloying Strategy for Benzyl Alcohol Partial Oxidation

Abstract

Well-dispersed PdIn bimetallic alloy nanoparticles (1–4 nm) were immobilized on mesostructured silica by an in situ capture-alloying strategy, and PdIn–In2O3interfaces were rationally constructed by changing the In2O3loading and reduction temperature. The catalytic performance for benzyl alcohol partial oxidation was evaluated, and a catalytic synergy was observed. The Pd-rich PdIn–In2O3interface is prone to be formed on the catalyst with a low In2O3loading after being reduced at 300 °C. It was demonstrated that the Pd-rich PdIn–In2O3interface was more active for benzyl alcohol partial oxidation than In-rich Pd2In3species, which was likely to be formed at a high reduction temperature (400 °C). The high catalytic activity on the Pd-rich PdIn–In2O3interface was attributed to the exposure of more Pd-enriched active sites, and an optimized PdIn–In2O3/Pd assemble ratio enhanced the oxygen transfer during partial oxidation. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation confirmed that the Pd-rich Pd3In1(111)–In2O3interface facilitated the activation of oxygen molecules, resulting in high catalytic activity.

Abstract

International audience; The reactive adsorption desulfurization is an important and efficient technology for the ultradeep desulfurization of gasoline. The performance of an adsorbent is vital for the efficiency of the reactive adsorption desulfurization process. In the case of Ni/ZnO-Al 2 O 3 adsorbent, the formation of inert ZnAl 2 O 4 spinels is commonly recognized for the deactivation of adsorbents. To solve this problem, in this work, TiO 2 was incorporated in the Ni/ZnO-Al 2 O 3 adsorbent by a wet impregnation method to inhibit the formation of spinel structures during the reaction and regeneration processes. The TiO 2 formed a stable protection layer on the surface of Al 2 O 3 preventing the interaction between Al 2 O 3 and ZnO, which inhibited the formation of ZnAl 2 O 4 spinel phase. The reactive adsorption desulfurization performance of the adsorbents was evaluated in a fixed bed reactor using thiophene in n-octane as a model fuel. Evaluation results indicated that the introduction of TiO 2 could significantly improve the stability of the adsorbents during cyclic hydrothermal treatments, while the sulfur capacity slightly dropped. Characterization results revealed that TiO 2 was homogeneously dispersed on the surface of Al 2 O 3 support and the incorporation of TiO 2 could maintain a certain amount of Lewis acid sites in the adsorbents, which are favorable for the adsorption of organo-sulfur compounds.

Abstract

International audience; Offretite zeolite synthesis in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTABr) is reported for the first time. The offretite crystals exhibited novel hexagonal prismatic shape with high crystallinity after only 72 h of hydrothermal treatment at 180 o C which is considerably faster than the already known synthesis procedure used for the preparation of offretite. The study showed that CTABr has dual-functions during crystallization of offretite, viz. as structure-directing agent and as mesoporogen. The resulting offretite crystals (Si/Al ratio = 4.1) possess more acid sites than the conventional offretite thanks to its high 2 crystallinity and hierarchical structure. The synthesized zeolite is also more reactive than its conventional counterpart in the acylation of 2-methylfuran for biofuel production under nonmicrowave instant heating condition, giving 83.5% conversion with 100% selectivity to the desired product 2-acetyl-5-methylfuran. Hence, this amphiphile synthesis approach offers another cost-effective and alternative route for crystallizing zeolite materials that require expensive organic templates.

167. Role of Al Distribution in CO2Adsorption Capacity in RHO Zeolites

Abstract

Tailoring the CO2adsorption performance of high-aluminum-containing zeolites is typically considered from the perspective of controlling the type and location of extra-framework cations. In this work, using solid-state 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), we show that local order, i.e., the aluminum distribution within the framework of Na,Cs-RHO type zeolites with different Al contents, plays a fundamental role in governing the CO2adsorption capacity and structural flexibility. From this analysis, the cation type and location within the RHO structure as a consequence of the framework Al distribution are not the only parameters that deserve consideration. This is despite their paramount importance in optimizing the adsorption capacity of samples with a fixed Al content. In addition, we observe strong correlations between the 29Si NMR barycenter and ellipticity of the eight-ring pore apertures and the nearest neighbor and next-nearest neighbor framework atom distances. From this analysis, we rationalize that the zeolite framework flexibility can be viewed as a consequence of the distribution of Si species rather than being exclusively a consequence of the type of cation loading only.

Abstract

International audience; The formation of SAPO-5 molecular sieves is investigated under hydrothermal conditions and templated by a new structure-directing agent, 1-benzyl-2,3-dimethyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium hydroxide ([Bzm]OH). The synthesis was carried out by tuning the synthesis parameters, viz. crystallization temperature, heating time and reactants molar composition (SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , P 2 O 5 , [Bzm] + , H 2 O) so as to study the roles of each synthesis parameter towards the formation of SAPO-5. The results showed that these synthesis parameters had significant influences on the entire crystallization process (induction, nucleation, crystal growth, and Ostwald ripening) and physicochemical properties of SAPO-5 (morphology and crystal size). Moreover, this study also demonstrated a fast hydrothermal synthesis approach where SAPO-5 molecular sieve with hexagonal prism morphology could be crystallized within 10 h instead of days using novel [Bzm]OH heterocyclic template thus offering an alternative route for synthesizing zeolite-like materials for advanced applications.

Abstract

Novel nanocomposites consisting of a water-soluble acrylamide-based photopolymer and colloidal zeolite nanoparticles of zeolite Beta and zeolite A were prepared. The interactions between the photopolymer components and zeolite nanoparticles in the photopolymerizable nanocomposites were characterized for the first time by [sup.13]C nuclear magnetic resonance and visible spectroscopy. It was found that the zeolite Beta nanoparticles (up to 5 wt. %) behave as a noninert additive, resulting in an effective increase in layer thickness, which causes doubling of the diffraction efficiency of the nanocomposite in comparison to that of the undoped photopolymer. On the other hand, the nanocomposite containing zeolite A nanoparticles showed no evidence of interaction with the polymer matrix, had similar values of diffraction efficiency, and--up to a small addition of nanoparticles (up to 2.5 wt. %)--showed slightly higher light-induced refractive index modulation of the grating when compared to the undoped photopolymer. The good optical compatibility between the zeolite nanoparticles and the polymer allows a versatile design of photopolymerizable nanocomposites with different properties by selecting the adequate type of zeolite. The nanocomposite containing zeolite Beta nanoparticles demonstrates selective sensing behavior toward toluene and can be coated in either glass or plastic substrates and exposed directly to the environmental conditions. Abstract

International audience; There is an increasing demand for porous materials able to separate the components of natural gas, mainly CH4 and CO2. Flexible small pore zeolites are interesting candidates due to their high sorption capacity and selectivity of molecules with similar sizes. This selectivity comes from their small pores, large cavities and shapes which can be control by the introduction of different extra-framework cations such as K+, Na+, Cs+. Indeed, the extra-framework cations in specific locations selectively provide access of molecules to pores and cages of the zeolite, depending on the nature of the molecules. The present work reports the characterisation of nanosized low silica CHA-type zeolite during the CO2 adsorption process. It was found that the amount and location of cations combined with the small crystallite sizes had significant influence on the sorption properties of CHA zeolite. Additionally, the in situ FTIR results provide information for the amount of physisorbed vs. chemisorbed CO2 in the CHA samples. Simultaneously the CH4sorption analysis was performed and no evidence for CH4 adsorbed into the CHA cage was found. To structurally elucidate how CO2 are adsorbed in this CHA, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) measurements were carried out on dehydrated and CO2-loaded CHA samples at 623K and 298K. Different amount of CO2 was delivered to a high temperature cell, and the change in the intensity of the Bragg peaks was followed; Rietveld analysis for each particular case was performed. The position of cations in the as prepared CHA samples and position of CO2 molecules in the samples subjected to controlled adsorption and desorption were determined.Further CO2 adsorption cycles on the CHA zeolite were carried out at 298 K. The capacity of the CHA zeolite under 10 continuous cycles was fully preserved; no loss of CO2 capacity was measured by TG. Moreover, the crystallinity is totally preserved, thus proving that the CHA zeolite has excellent stability.

187. Alkali Metal Cations Influence the CO2 Adsorption Capacity of Nanosized Chabazite: Modeling vs Experiment.

Abstract

The CO2 adsorption behavior of nanosized chabazite (CHA) containing different compositions of extra-framework alkali metal cations (Na+, K+, Cs+) with a constant Si/Al ratio of 2.2 was investigated experimentally (adsorption isotherms and in situ Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy) and theoretically by Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) modeling. The CO2 adsorption isotherms were in good agreement with the GCMC modeling in the pressure range of 0–60 kPa for all samples except the Cs+-containing nanosized CHA. The GCMC modeling did not consider the kinetics of adsorption; thus, the CO2 capacity of the Cs-CHA sample was overestimated; the partial blockage of the pores and inaccessibility of CO2 to the free voids of the CHA structure was experimentally observed by recording adsorption isotherms and in situ FTIR study. The FTIR results revealed that CO2 adsorbed mainly physically on all samples with the sorption capacity decreasing in the following order: Na-CHA ≃ K-CHA > Cs-CHA. The Na-CHA demonstrated significant micropore volume compared to the other samples as measured by N2 physisorption due to the inability of Na+ to effectively occupy the eight-membered rings (8MRs). This study implies that the different alkali metal cation forms of the nanosized CHA zeolite are of practical interest for flue gas purification, where a high CO2/N2 selectivity is required.
