Organised jointly by the Japan Prestressed Concrete Engineering Association and the Japan Concrete Institute, the Congress ran from 13th October to 19th October 2002. 187. Specific HLAgenotypes confer susceptibility to acute necrotizing encephalopathy

Abstract

Acute necrotizing encephalopathy (ANE) is a rare and severe syndrome of acute encephalopathy triggered by viral infections. Cytokine storm is considered as the main pathogenetic mechanism of ANE. ANE is prevalent in East Asia, suggesting the association of host genetic factors. To elucidate the genetic background of Japanese ANE, we examined genotypes of human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-A, C, B, DRB1, DQB1 and DPB1in 31 patients. Significant positive association was observed in both the allele frequency and positivity of DRB1*09:01(P=0.043 and 0.025, respectively), as well as those of DQB1*03:03(P=0.034 and 0.026, respectively). The carrier frequency of DRB1*09:01and DQB1*03:03alleles was higher in the patients (45.16%) than in controls (28.57%). These alleles are more common in East Asian than in European populations, and are reportedly associated with various autoimmune diseases in Japanese patients. Our data provide further evidence that altered immune response based on individual HLAgenotypes may contribute to ANE pathogenesis.

188. Six-Membered Cyclic Carbonate Having Styrene Moiety as a Chemically Recyclable Monomer. Construction of Novel Cross-Linking−De-Cross-Linking System of Network Polymers

Abstract

This article deals with (1) synthesis and anionic polymerization of a six-membered cyclic carbonate having styrene moiety, (2) anionic depolymerization of the obtained polymer, (3) radical cross-linking of the obtained polymer, and (4) anionic de-cross-linking of the cross-linked polymer. The monomer 5-ethyl-5-[(p-vinylphenyl) methoxymethyl]-1,3-dioxan-2-one (St6CC) underwent anionic polymerization with potassium tert-butoxide (t-BuOK) as an initiator in THF to afford the corresponding polycarbonate [poly(St6CC)]. It was confirmed that this polymerization was equilibrium polymerization by the relationships between the polymerization temperature and monomer conversion. Poly(St6CC) underwent anionic depolymerization with t-BuOK (5 mol % vs polymer repeating unit) as a catalyst in THF (0.1 M) at 20 °C for 24 h to recover St6CC in 60% yield. Treatment of poly(St6CC) with a radical initiator afforded the cross-linked polymer. Employment of styrene as the comonomer satisfactorily afforded the corresponding cross-linked polymer. It underwent anionic de-cross-linking with t-BuOK (10 mol % vs polymer repeating unit) in THF at 50 °C for 24 h to afford a THF-soluble polymer. The yield of the THF-soluble part increased as the styrene composition in the cross-linked polymer increased. It was suggested that the de-cross-linking efficiency depended on the cross-linking density.

Abstract

Novel thiophene oligomers containing a redox active hexaarylethane unit have been prepared as a new class of molecular wires having a large electrochemical bistability and definitely characterized by using single-crystal X-ray structure analysis and redox potential measurements. They constitute reversible redox pairs with the corresponding bis(thioxanthyl) dications by undergoing C−C bond making/breaking. They show unique electrochromism and a fluorescence change during interconversion.

190. Controlled Cationic Ring-Opening Polymerization of 1,3-Oxazolidine-2-thione Derived from <SCP>l</SCP>-Serine

Abstract

The cationic ring-opening polymerization of a 1,3-oxazolidine-2-thione derivative (SL) from l-serine was examined. SL was synthesized by the reaction of l-serine methyl ester hydrochloride with carbon disulfide and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of triethylamine. Cationic polymerizations using methyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TfOMe), trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TfOH), and boron trifluoride etherate (BF3·OEt2) as initiators gave polymers with polythiourethane structures in quantitative yields. The obtained polymers showed inverted specific rotations with respect to the monomer, where the large increase of the absolute values suggested the possibility of high-order structures. The molecular weight of the polymer was controlled by the feed ratio of SL to TfOMe and its distribution was constantly narrow (Mw/Mn &lt; 1.14), supporting the controlled character of the polymerization. The reaction mechanism was examined for TfOMe. According to NMR spectroscopic experiments, the polymerization with TfOMe proceeds via an active chain end mechanism in which the protonated cyclic endo iminothiocarbonate 2 is the active species. The propagation step involves a nucleophilic attack of SL to the active species.

192. Training Effects on Aerobic Work Capacity of Middle-and Old-Aged Men by means of Bicycle Ergometer

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of physical training on bicycle ergometer in 6 sedentary middle and old-aged men (aged from 33 to 48). The subjects in this study were performed 30 minutes bicycling a day, two times a week through 12 weeks on the bicycle ergometer. The intensity of training was equivalent to 60% of VO_2 max. Maximum and submaximum aerobic power output were tested before and after the training by means of bicycle ergometer exercise and treadmill walking. Results obtained from this study were as follows : It was obserbed that the increase of endurance time (BE : 16.6%, TM : 8.6%) and VO_2 max (BE : 18.2%, TM : 13.4%) by training were statisticaly significant. The magnitude of maximum heart rate, however, was almost the same before and after training. Maximum ventilation improved significantly with training, and this increase was due to increase of tidal volume and respiratory frequency at exhaustion on treadmill walking., 4, KJ00004190085

Oxygen uptake and integrated EMG from 4 leg muscles were measured in 7 male subjects, age 22-33 years, during submaximal and maximal treadmill and bicycle exercise. 呉国は後漢の統一国家の崩壊した後に出現した三国の一であると共に、江南に拠った六朝の先駆でもある。この国の興亡の過程を三期に分ち政治史的に考察すると共にその基底に横わる注目すべき諸制度、奉邑制 (並に授兵制) 、科法とそれを操った中書系統の官である校事、吏・兵の地位等をとり上げる外、官僚層の構成と帝権との関係、その間からでてくる寒人の進出について省みた。, Wu was one of those three states which were established after the collapse of the Hang Dynasty and came to be the forerunner of Lu-ch'ao (六朝) which was founded south of the Yang-tzū River. The points discussed in the essay are (1) the political history of this Wu to be divided into three stages, (2) its important institutions such as féng-i-chih (奉邑制), shou-ping-chih (授兵制), k'o-fa (科法) and the positions such as chiao-shih, (校事), li (吏), ping (兵), all belonging to chung-shu (中書), (3) the relation between the structure of bureaucracy and the imperial authority, and the promotion of han-jên (寒人).

197. The Relationship between Integrated EMG and Oxygen Uptake during Treadmill and Bicycle Exercise

Abstract

The aim of this study is to measure the integrated EMG in relation to the oxygen uptake during submaximal treadmill and bicycle exercises. Seven healthy adult subjects performed five minute exercise at three different submaximal work intensities on the same day. The EMG activity in right thigh and leg muscles was measured from m. rectus femoris, m. biceps femoris, m. tibialis anterior and m. gastrocnemius by means of four pairs of surface electrodes sealed with collodion to the skin at a distance of 3 cm apart over the belly of muscles. The EMG activity was not likely modified by the possible fatigue during 5 minutes submaximal exercise in this experiment. In the treadmill walking, there was a rectilinear relationship between integrated EMG activity from four muscle groups and percent of VO2max. On the bicycle exercise the correlation coefficient between them was generally lower than that on the treadmill walking. The product of integrated EMG and volume of the same muscle groups was considerably linearly related to oxygen uptake during treadmill and bicycle exercise (the correlation coefficient was 0.945, p < 0.001 in treadmill and 0.710, p < 0.001 in bicycle).
