Abstract

Abstract Astrophysics and Cosmology are entering in a new epoch in which an extremely large volume of data is accessible by the researchers. Consequently, the researchers have to modify their procedures for data analysis to adapt them to this new scenario. This requires the incorporation of new scientific computing resources able to maintain, at least, the present scientific production performance. As part of this increment in the data volume, it should be underlined the number of high-quality galaxy spectra produced by the new instruments. Galaxy spectra are important in Astrophysics because of they encode essential information, such as age and metallicity, of the constituent stellar populations, and, therefore the evolutionary history of the corresponding galaxy. In this work, these galaxy spectra are modeled by using Simple Stellar Populations. This mechanism to model the galaxy spectra allows an in-depth understanding of the present state of the galaxy, but also it allows understanding its past evolution. However, this modeling requires to adequately combine more than one Simple Stellar Population to reproduce the galaxy spectral energy distribution. To find high-quality solutions, metaheuristic algorithms are suitable. In this work, a wide portfolio of metaheuristics are evaluated to reproduce the Low-Resolution Spectra Energy Distribution of galaxies: M110, M32, and NGC3190. The final aim of this work is to advance in the evaluation of some metaheuristics for modeling the Spectral Energy Distribution of a galaxy as a combination of predefined Simple Stellar Populations Spectra. Abstract

This article introduces a new variation of a known metaheuristic method for solving global optimization problems. The proposed algorithm is based on the Bat algorithm (BA), which is inspired by the micro-bat echolocation phenomenon, and addresses the problems of local-optima trapping using a special mutation operator that enhances the diversity of the standard BA, hence the name enhanced Bat algorithm (EBat). The design of EBat is introduced and its performance is evaluated against 24 of the standard benchmark functions, and compared to that of the standard BA, as well as to several well-established metaheuristic techniques. We also analyze the impact of different parameters on the EBat algorithm and determine the best combination of parameter values in the context of numerical optimization. The obtained results show that the new EBat method is indeed a promising addition to the arsenal of metaheuristic algorithms and can outperform several existing ones, including the original BA algorithm. Abstract

Differential evolution (DE) is well known for its simple structure and excellent performance among various evolutionary algorithms. Difference vectors have a dominant effect on the evolution progress. But the difference vectors in mutation operators for the conventional DE are simply generated by selecting individuals from the current population without any selective pressure. Besides, the directional information only depends on the existing individuals and hardly exploits the interaction between individuals. Therefore, a novel interactive information scheme called IIN is proposed to overcome this weakness. It attempts to provide more effective directional information during the evolution process and achieve a good balance between exploration and exploitation. In IIN, both the ranking information based on fitness and the interactive information between individuals is fully considered. The interaction between individuals is implemented by the mathematically weight-based combination according to ranking information. Hence, the interactive information inherited from existing individuals acts as a directional vector. In this way, IIN-DE utilizes the directional information to speed up convergence. The proposed scheme can be easily incorporated into different mutation strategies to provide useful directional information. To verify the effectiveness, the proposed IIN is incorporated into the original DEs based on several mutation operators as well as several state-of-art DE variants. 196. Improved representation and genetic operators for linear genetic programming for automated program repair.

Abstract

Genetic improvement for program repair can fix bugs or otherwise improve software via patch evolution. Consider GenProg, a prototypical technique of this type. GenProg’s crossover and mutation operators manipulate individuals represented as patches. A patch is composed of high-granularity edits that indivisibly comprise an edit operation, a faulty location, and a fix statement used in replacement or insertions. We observe that recombination and mutation of such high-level units limits the technique’s ability to effectively traverse and recombine the repair search spaces. We propose a reformulation of program repair representation, crossover, and mutation operators such that they explicitly traverse the three subspaces that underlie the search problem: the Operator, Fault and Fix Spaces. We provide experimental evidence validating our insight, showing that the operators provide considerable improvement over the baseline repair algorithm in terms of search success rate and efficiency. We also conduct a genotypic distance analysis over the various types of search, providing insight as to the influence of the operators on the program repair search problem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

197. Prediction of electricity demand of China based on the analysis of decoupling and driving force.

Abstract

The emerging complex circumstances caused by the essence of the new economic normal and the low‐carbon development of power industry lead to the demand for electricity from the rapid growth phase to a 'new normal' pace for China. To better capture the more and more non‐linear and non‐stationary characteristics of electricity demand, Tapio decoupling model is applied to research the decoupling of electricity demand from economic growth, and T 's correlation degree is used to measure the influencing degree and reveal the role direction of each driver on electricity demand. On these bases, a novel improved particle swarm optimisation‐extreme learning machine (IPSO‐ELM) hybrid forecasting model is proposed to predict electricity demand. In IPSO‐ELM, a mutation operator of genetic algorithm is introduced into standard PSO to ensure the overall convergence and enhance the accuracy of convergence, and the improved PSO is adopted to optimise the input weights and hidden bias of traditional ELM which are randomly generated. Finally, the case study of China demonstrated the efficacy and feasibility of IPSO‐ELM. Simultaneously, the comparisons with ELM, back propagation neural network, support vector machine, GM (1, 1), and logistic model showed that IPSO‐ELM has a better forecasting performance in electricity demand. As the development of deep‐submicron and nano‐technology, leakage power minimisation becomes asimportant as dynamic power reduction in IC design. In order to achieve low‐powerstate assignment for finite‐state machine (FSM) synthesis, a multi‐populationgenetic algorithm (MPGA)‐based state assignment method isproposed. MPGA consists of an outer‐loop and a set of inner‐GAs. In MPGA,inner‐GA is a local search component for finding low‐power state assignment.Selection, crossover andmutation are used to perform variations on individuals.Cost function is defined based on power dissipation formulation of complementarymetal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) gate for dynamic power andleakage power estimation. The outer‐loop is used to optimise the parameters ofinner‐genetic algorithm (GA) through populationvariation schema, intra‐specific competition andnewborn. Twenty‐three FSMs that were commonly used asbenchmarks are employed to test the effectiveness of MPGA and compare differentstate assignment methods.
