Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of lower respiratory tract infection worldwide. Until now, there are no licenced vaccines or effective antiviral drugs against RSV infections. In our previous work, we found 2-((1H-indol-3-yl)thio/sulfinyl)-N-pheny acetamide derivatives (4-49 C and 1-HB-63) being a novel inhibitor against RSV in vitro. Here, we explored the underlying mechanism of 2-((1H-indol-3-yl)thio/sulfinyl)-N-pheny acetamide derivatives to inhibit RSV replication in vitro and disclosed that 4–49 C worked as the inhibitor of membrane fusion and 1-HB-63 functioned at the stage of RSV genome replication/transcription. Yet, both of them could not inhibit RSV infection of BALB/c mice by using RSV-Luc, in vivo imaging and RT-qPCR analyses, for which it may be due to the fast metabolism in vivo. Our work suggests that further structural modification and optimisation of 2-((1H-indol-3-yl) thio/sulfinyl)-N-pheny acetamide derivative are needed to obtain drug candidates with effective anti-RSV activities in vivo.

The tea–vegetable gardens in Longsheng are particular agro-cultural landscapes constructed by the Miao, Yao and Zhuang nationalities, based on the ecological system in which they are located. Herein, we aimed to clarify the traditional agricultural practices of tea planting in Longsheng and explore the value and characteristics of tea agricultural heritage systems. A household survey among the farming communities and a quadrat investigation of different agroecosystems in the study area were conducted. The results revealed that most tea trees in the study area were 50–80 years old, and only a few ancient tea trees – older than 150 years – remained. A total of 35 vegetables belonging to 15 families were intercropped with tea trees. This agroecosystem is an artificial community in which shrubs (tea trees) form the uppermost layer, crops such as Gramineae, Araceae, Paniceae and Cucurbitaceae, make up the intermediate layer, and the bottom layer comprises low-growing crops such as Convolvulaceae and Cruciferae. Indigenous peoples have shown rich experience and high ecological wisdom in the biological combination of a complex ecological agriculture mode, with time and space configuration, and comprehensive management technology. Hence, we suggest that tea–vegetable gardens should be well documented and effectively conserved.

Abstract Background Smartphone addiction bodes adverse consequences, affecting different populations, including medical students. Parental bonding in childhood had been associated with addiction and recovery in later life. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the associations between parental bonding and smartphone addiction among Chinese medical students. Method Binary logistic regressions were used to investigate the associations between parental bonding with mothers and fathers, respectively, and smartphone addiction. Interaction terms of care and protection were included in the models. Results A total of 517 medical students were included in the study. The prevalence of smartphone addiction was 48.16% (n = 249). The estimated effects of maternal and paternal parenting on smartphone addiction differed. Maternal protection was positively associated with smartphone addiction (OR, 1.046;95% CI, 1.005-1.087), and maternal care enhanced the estimated effect of protection on smartphone addiction. Paternal care was negatively associated with smartphone addiction (OR, 0.954;95% CI, 0.919-0.989). Conclusions Chinese medical students with overprotective mothers or with indifferent fathers tended to exhibit traits of smartphone addiction. Further studies on factors influencing the associations between parental bonding and smartphone addiction may pave the way for potential family-oriented interventions for smartphone addiction.

Unexpected ground impacts can seriously affect the stability and operational safety of buried pipelines. In this paper, a full-scale modeling test of the dynamic response of a buried concrete pipeline under falling rock impact based on dynamic sensor testing was conducted. A commercially available reinforced concrete pipeline, buried in a clayey soil site, was used, and a 50 kg concrete ball was used to investigate the impact above the pipeline. Considering the purpose of the test, the falling process of the concrete ball and the surface vibration velocity induced by the touchdown of the concrete ball were monitored using a high-speed camera and a vibration signal tester, respectively. The dynamic response signals of the pipe under surface impact were tested using strain gauges and earth pressure gauges combined with dynamic sensors such as dynamic signal tester, and the dynamic response law was analyzed. The experimental results will provide a basis for the design of the impact resistance of reinforced concrete pipes.

Fruit color affects its commercial value. β-carotene is the pigment that provides color for many fruits and vegetables. However, the molecular mechanism of β-carotene metabolism during apricot ripening is largely unknown. Here, we investigated whether β-carotene content affects apricot fruit color. First, the differences in β-carotene content between orange apricot ‘JTY’ and white apricot ‘X15’ during nine developmental stages (S1–S9) were compared. β-carotene contents highly significantly differed between ‘JTY’ and ‘X15’ from S5 (color transition stage) onwards. Whole-transcriptome analysis showed that the β-carotene synthesis genes 15-cis-phytoene desaturase (PaPDS) and 15-cis-phytoene synthase (PaPSY) significantly differed between the two cultivars during the color transition stage. There was a 5 bp deletion in exon 11 of PaPDS in ‘X15’, which led to early termination of amino acid translation. Gene overexpression and virus-induced silencing analysis showed that truncated PaPDS disrupted the β-carotene biosynthesis pathway in apricot pulp, resulting in decreased β-carotene content and a white phenotype. Furthermore, virus-induced silencing analysis showed that PaPSY was also a key gene in β-carotene biosynthesis. These findings provide new insights into the molecular regulation of apricot carotenoids and provide a theoretical reference for breeding new cultivars of apricot.

Healthcare services and rehabilitation equipment have entered a phase of rapid development driven by user requirements. However, the development of corresponding design models for rehabilitation equipment is lacking. A general framework and development process are urgently needed for neurorehabilitation physiotherapy equipment. To address problems such as inadequate knowledge representation in the design process and difficulties in modeling the functional structure of the product, we combined a decomposition topology model of neurorehabilitation physiotherapy equipment with the modular design method. We proposed a general model for the design of neurorehabilitation physiotherapy equipment comprising the following modules: requirements (R), function (F), principle workspace (W), behavior (B), and structure (S), i.e., the RFWBS model. Using the neurorehabilitation robotic glove as an example for design practice, in terms of kinematics, the mechanism is analyzed by establishing a Lagrangian coordinate system for resolution. The mechanism has three degrees of freedom and can achieve the natural flexion and extension angles of each finger joint. In terms of dynamics, during the entire finger extension, the angular acceleration is almost zero, and the average angular velocity is approximately 30~50°/s. This indicates that the mechanism is suitable for wearable use, validating the scientific and effective nature of the RFWBS expanded model.

Through detailed drill-core description, petrography, cathodoluminescence imaging, and geochemistry analysis, sedimentary deposits with a high content of volcanogenic components (27.6%) were discovered in the Shanxi Formation of the Daniudi Gas Field, Ordos Basin. The volcanogenic components include volcanogenic quartz, lava fragments (dominated by rhyolite fragments), tuff fragments, and tuffaceous matrix. In addition, at least two volcanic ash layers were discovered. Although the metamorphic rocks of the Precambrian succession in the ancient land of Yin Mountain are usually considered the primary source of the Shanxi formation, it is most likely that the volcanogenic components were derived from intermediate-acid volcanic materials that accumulated in the Daqingshan area during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian. Those volcanogenic components are mainly transported by flowing water rather than by air from origin to basin. In addition, the accumulation of volcanic materials in the Daqingshan area was controlled by volcanic eruptions occurring solely in this area, rather than by the Inner Mongolia Orogenic Belt. Those volcanic eruptions were related to the southward subduction of the Paleo-Asian Ocean Plate beneath the northern margin of the North China Plate in the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian. The active continental margin related to the subduction of the Paleo-Asian Ocean Plate lasted at least until the Early Permian, and the closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean must have occurred later than the Early Permian.

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), commonly known as “superbugs”, is a highly pathogenic bacterium that poses a serious threat to human health. There is an urgent need to replace traditional antibiotics with novel drugs to combat S. aureus. Sortase A (SrtA) is a crucial transpeptidase involved in the adhesion process of S. aureus. The reduction in virulence and prevention of S. aureus infections have made it a significant target for antimicrobial drugs. In this study, we combined virtual screening with experimental validation to identify potential drug candidates from a drug library. Three hits, referred to as Naldemedine, Telmisartan, and Azilsartan, were identified based on docking binding energy and the ratio of occupied functional sites of SrtA. The stability analysis manifests that Naldemedine and Telmisartan have a higher binding affinity to the hydrophobic pockets. Specifically, Telmisartan forms stable hydrogen bonds with SrtA, resulting in the highest binding energy. Our experiments prove that the efficiency of adhesion and invasion by S. aureus can be decreased without significantly affecting bacterial growth. Our work identifies Telmisartan as the most promising candidate for inhibiting SrtA, which can help combat S. aureus infection.

Calcium ions participate in the regulation of almost all biological functions of the body, especially in cardiac excitation–contraction coupling, acting as vital signaling through ion channels. Various cardiovascular drugs exert their effects via affecting the ion channels on the cell membrane. The current strategies for calcium ion monitoring are mainly based on fluorescent probes, which are commonly used for intracellular calcium ion detection (calcium imaging) and cannot achieve long-term monitoring. In this work, an all-solid-state silicone–rubber ion-sensitive membrane was fabricated on light-addressable potentiometric sensors to establish a program-controlled field-effect-based ion-sensitive light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) platform for extracellular calcium ion detection. L-type calcium channels blocker verapamil and calcium channel agonist BayK8644 were chosen to explore the effect of ion channel drugs on extracellular calcium ion concentration in HL-1 cell lines. Simultaneously, microelectrode array (MEA) chips were employed to probe the HL-1 extracellular field potential (EFP) signals. The Ca2+ concentration and EFP parameters were studied to comprehensively evaluate the efficacy of cardiovascular drugs. This platform provides more dimensional information on cardiovascular drug efficacy that can be utilized for accurate drug screening.

To study the impact of nitrogen application on the photosynthetic structure and photosystem activity of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) leaves during the recovery stage after heat stress, the OJIP curve and JIP parameters were determined through a control experiment in an artificial climate chamber. The tomato variety was “Jinfen No. 1”. Four day/night temperature levels (25 °C/15 °C as control CKT; 30 °C/20 °C, lightly high-temperature LHT; 35 °C/25 °C, moderate high-temperature MHT; 40 °C/30 °C, severe high-temperature SHT) were set for a duration of 7 days. Five nitrogen supply levels (N1–N5: 0, 1.3, 1.95, 2.6 and 3.75 g/plant, respectively; 2.6 g/plant is the recommended nitrogen application rate, CKTN4) were applied. The results showed that the O, K, J, I and P phases on the chlorophyll a fluorescence curve were significantly affected by different nitrogen treatments in heat stress recovery. Compared with CKT, with the increase in nitrogen supply, the fluorescence intensity of SHTN2-SHTN5 treatment increased significantly at P, I and J phases, while that of MHTN1-MHTN4 treatment decreased. The fluorescence intensity of SHTN5 and SHTN3 increased by 13.27% and 10.10% in the P phase, 13.52% and 12.1% in the I phase and 20.16% and 26.18% in the J phase, respectively. There were highly significant differences (p < 0.01) in the impact of high temperatures and nitrogen levels on the fluorescence parameters. On the 1st day after short-term heat stress, N had no significant effect on Fv/FM, Fv, Fo and FM; however, their interaction was significant (p < 0.05). On the 8th day, there were no significant interaction effects between HT and N for Fv/Fo, ABS/RC and DIo/RC. Fv/Fo proved to be sensitive to the application of both high temperatures and nitrogen. Under all five nitrogen applications, temperature played a significant role in increasing DIo/RC, especially for N2 and N3. The results indicated that decreasing the nitrogen application under SHT resulted in a higher number of active RCs and an increased value of specific energy flux (ABS/RC, TRo/RC and DIo/RC), indicating the enhanced ability of RC to reduce plastoquinone. The study provides a reference for the diagnosis of nitrogen nutrition under high-temperature stress using chlorophyll fluorescence methods.

Anthracite-associated graphite is an important graphite resource with a wide range of applications besides being used as a fuel. This paper introduces a method for evaluating the graphite equivalent evaluation of anthracite-associated graphite. A series of graphite-anthracite standard samples with known graphite content were prepared, and their Raman spectra were obtained using a Raman spectrometer. By employing peak-fitting analysis to decipher the peak spectrum information of the D peak and G peak, trends in the peak position, peak intensity ratio, half-width, and peak area of the D peak and G peak in standard samples with different graphite contents were obtained. Subsequently, a standard curve and fitting equation were established using the peak area data. The goodness of fit for the equation (R2) was 0.9984. Then the equation was used to evaluate 100 natural anthracite-associated graphite samples with unknown graphite content, obtaining a corresponding graphite equivalent evaluation.

Enhancing public awareness for epidemic prevention is crucial for safeguarding public health. This experimental study investigated the effectiveness of a combined approach involving three persuasive elements in public health advertising. Specifically, the study examined the interplay between emotional appeals (fear messages versus efficacy messages) and spokesperson type on the public’s response to health announcements. The results demonstrated that fear messages were more persuasive when conveyed by real human spokespersons (versus animated spokespersons), whereas efficacy messages were more acceptable when conveyed by animated spokespersons (versus real humans). Furthermore, the study revealed that the impact of emotional appeals and spokesperson type is moderated by benefit appeals (self-benefit or other-benefit). The joint effects of these persuasive variables on individuals’ intention to adopt preventive measures indicated that the interactions significantly differed across the two types of benefit appeal. Taken together, the findings represent a pioneering contribution to the field of health communication by comparing the persuasive effects of different combinations of emotional appeals, spokesperson types, and benefit appeals on public behavior. These findings offer practical guidance for public communicators to design more appropriate health advertisements based on the results of this study, thereby enhancing public acceptance of disease prevention measures.

Controllable bonded prestress represents an innovative advancement stemming from retard-bonded prestress systems, distinguished by its intrinsic controllability in bonding. The controllable bonded binder can be artificially heated and cured rapidly through DC heating after the completion of prestressed tension, allowing for enhanced control over the process. FLUENT simulates controllable bonded prestressed structure’s temperature field, yielding a 1.73% max error validated against measured data. Based on the theory of heat transfer, the maximum error of the calculated temperature field of the controllable bonded test beam under DC heating using the Stehfest numerical algorithm is 1.28%, which exhibits a strong alignment with both simulated and measured results. The parameter analysis identifies current, binder thickness, and steel-strand diameter as key temperature distribution influencers. The relationship between the current and heating time follows a quadratic inverse pattern. Increasing the heating current can significantly reduce the duration of heating. Under identical heating conditions, the temperature of the controllable binder is directly proportional to its thickness. A higher thickness results in a higher temperature. Additionally, larger diameters of steel-stranded wire lead to a lower heating efficiency.

BackgroundPrevious studies have indicated that nitric oxide synthase 2 (NOS2) genetic variations are involved in delayed fracture healing and fracture non-union. Whether these genetic variants associate with the development of osteomyelitis (OM) remains unclear. Here, we analyzed the potential relationships between NOS2 genetic variations and the risk of developing post-traumatic OM (PTOM) in a Chinese Han population.MethodsAltogether 704 participants, including 336 PTOM patients and 368 healthy controls, were genotyped of rs2297514 and rs2248814 of the NOS2 gene using the SNaPshot genotyping method.ResultsOutcomes showed that the frequency of allele C of rs2297514 in the patient group was significantly lower than that in the control group (48.7% vs. 54.5%, P = 0.029, OR = 0.792, 95% CI 0.642 – 0.976). In addition, significant associations were found between rs2297514 and susceptibility to PTOM by the recessive model (P = 0.007, OR = 0.633, 95% CI 0.453 – 0.884), and the homozygous model (P = 0.039, OR = 0.648, 95% CI 0.429 – 0.979). Moreover, patients with the CC genotype of rs2297514 had lower inflammatory biomarkers levels than the TT genotype, especially for the C-reactive protein (CRP) level (median: 4.1 mg/L vs. 8.9 mg/L, P = 0.027). However, no significant relationship was noted between rs2248814 and the risk of developing PTOM.ConclusionIn this Chinese cohort, rs2297514 is correlated with a decreased risk of PTOM development, with genotype CC as a protective factor.

PurposeTo retrospectively evaluate and compare treatment effectiveness and safety between transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with molecularly targeted agents plus immune checkpoint inhibitors (TACE+T+I) and TACE combined with molecularly targeted agents (TACE+T) for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC).MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the data of patients with unresectable HCC from January 2018 to June 2022. The patients were screened based on the inclusion criteria and were divided into the triple combination group (TACE+T+I) and the double combination group (TACE+T). The primary outcomes were overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and adverse events (AEs). The secondary outcomes were objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR). Risk factors associated with PFS and OS were determined by Cox regression analysis.ResultsA total of 87 patients were enrolled in this study, including 42 patients in the TACE+T+I group and 45 patients in the TACE+T group. Over a median follow-up of 29.00 and 26.70 months, patients who received TACE+T+I therapy achieved a significantly longer median OS (24.00 vs. 21.40 months, p = 0.007) and median PFS (9.70 vs. 7.00 months, p = 0.017); no grade 4 AEs or treatment-related death occurred in the two groups. Grade 3 AEs attributed to systemic agents in the two groups showed no significant difference (19.0% vs. 15.6%, p = 0.667). Patients in the TACE+T+I group demonstrated better tumor response when compared with patients in the TACE+T group, with an ORR of 52.4% vs. 17.8% (p = 0.001). No significant difference was observed in DCR between the two groups (83.3% vs. 77.8%, p = 0.514). Cox regression analysis showed that only the treatment method was an independent factor of OS, and both age and treatment method were independent factors related to PFS.ConclusionCompared with TACE plus molecularly targeted agents (TACE+T), the triple therapy (TACE+T+I) could improve survival and tumor response in unresectable HCC with manageable toxicities.

Abstract Extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their cargo constitute novel biomarkers. EV subpopulations have been defined not only by abundant tetraspanins (e.g., CD9, CD63 and CD81) but also by specific markers derived from their source cells. However, it remains a challenge to robustly isolate and characterize EV subpopulations. Here, we combined affinity isolation with super‐resolution imaging to comprehensively assess EV subpopulations from human plasma. Our Single Extracellular VEsicle Nanoscopy (SEVEN) assay successfully quantified the number of affinity‐isolated EVs, their size, shape, molecular tetraspanin content, and heterogeneity. The number of detected tetraspanin‐enriched EVs positively correlated with sample dilution in a 64‐fold range (for SEC‐enriched plasma) and a 50‐fold range (for crude plasma). Importantly, SEVEN robustly detected EVs from as little as ∼0.1 μL of crude plasma. We further characterized the size, shape and molecular tetraspanin content (with corresponding heterogeneities) for CD9‐, CD63‐ and CD81‐enriched EV subpopulations. Finally, we assessed EVs from the plasma of four pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients with resectable disease. Compared to healthy plasma, CD9‐enriched EVs from patients were smaller while IGF1R‐enriched EVs from patients were larger, rounder and contained more tetraspanin molecules, suggestive of a unique pancreatic cancer‐enriched EV subpopulation. This study provides the method validation and demonstrates that SEVEN could be advanced into a platform for characterizing both disease‐associated and organ‐associated EV subpopulations.

IntroductionEnvironmental temperature and nitrogen (N) fertilizer are two important factors affecting the sugar and organic acid content of tomato fruit. N is an essential nutrient element for plant growth and development, and plays a key role in regulating plant growth, fruit quality and stress response. However, the comparative effect of different N fertilizer levels on the accumulation of soluble sugar and organic acid in tomato young fruit under high temperature stress and its mechanism are still unknown.MethodsThree N fertilizer levels (N1, N2, N3) combined with two temperatures (28/18°C, CK; 35/25°C, HT) were used to study the effects of N fertilizer, HT and their interaction on the soluble sugar and organic acid components, content, metabolic enzyme activity and the expression level of key genes in tomato young fruit, revealing how N fertilizer affects the sugar and organic acid metabolism of tomato young fruit under HT at physiological and molecular levels.ResultsThe content of soluble sugar and organic acid in tomato young fruit under HT exposure was increased by appropriate N fertilizer (N1) treatment, which was due to the accumulation of glucose, fructose, citric acid and malic acid. High N (N3) and HT exposure had a negative impact on soluble sugar and reduce sugar accumulation. Further studies showed that due to the up-regulation of the expression of sucrose metabolizing enzyme genes (CWINV2, HK2, SPS, PK) and sucrose transporter (SUT1, SUT4, SWEETs) in tomato, N fertilizer increased the accumulation of soluble sugar by improving the sucrose metabolism, absorption intensity and sucrose transport of fruit under HT exposure. Due to the increase of PEPC gene expression, N fertilizer increased the accumulation of citric acid and malic acid by improving the TCA cycle of fruit under HT exposure.DiscussionNitrogen fertilizer can improve the heat tolerance of tomato young fruits by improving sugar metabolism under HT exposure. The results can provide theoretical support for the correct application of N fertilizer to improve the quality of tomato fruit under HT exposure.

BackgroundProtecting and improving the personal health of healthcare workers is critical to improving the efficiency and quality of care. To effectively meet the needs of the emergency service system, emergency physicians need to be in a good state of health. However, due to the special characteristics of work in the emergency department, emergency physicians have to face various psychosocial pressures, which may bring them physical and mental distress. Therefore, this study aims to explore the emergency physicians' self-rated health status and its related factors, to provide an empirical study for the improvement of emergency physicians' self-rated health status.MethodA cross-sectional survey of emergency physicians was conducted in China between July and August 2018. The questionnaires contained items on demographic characteristics, behavioral lifestyle and job-related factors, as well as self-rated health. The generalized ordinal logistic model was used to identify related factors of emergency physicians' self-rated health status.ResultsOnly 14.4% of Chinese emergency physicians considered themselves in good health status. Abstract Cell invasion/migration through three‐dimensional (3D) tissues is not only essential for physiological/pathological processes, but a hallmark of cancer malignancy. However, how to quantify spatiotemporal dynamics of 3D cell migration/invasion is challenging. Here, this work reports a 3D cell invasion/migration assay (3D‐CIMA) based on electromechanical coupling chip systems, which can monitor spatiotemporal dynamics of 3D cell invasion/migration in a real‐time, label‐free, nondestructive, and high‐throughput way. In combination with 3D topological networks and complex impedance detection technology, this work shows that 3D‐CIMA can quantitively characterize collective invasion/migration dynamics of cancer cells in 3D extracellular matrix (ECM) with controllable biophysical/biomechanical properties. More importantly, this work further reveals that it has the capability to not only carry out quantitative evaluation of anti‐tumor drugs in 3D microenvironments that minimize the impact of cell culture dimensions, but also grade clinical cancer specimens. The proposed 3D‐CIMA offers a new quantitative methodology for investigating cell interactions with 3D extracellular microenvironments, which has potential applications in various fields like mechanobiology, drug screening, and even precision medicine.

IntroductionHeavy metal-associated isoprenylated plant proteins (HIPPs) play vital roles in metal absorption, transport and accumulation in plants. However, so far, only several plant HIPPs have been functionally analyzed. In this study, a novel HIPP member OsHIPP17, which was involved in the tolerance to copper (Cu) was functionally characterized.MethodsIn this study, qRT-PCR, Yeast transgenic technology, Plant transgenic technology, ICP-MS and so on were used for research.ResultsOsHIPP17 protein was targeted to the nucleus. The Cu concentration reached 0.45 mg/g dry weight due to the overexpression of OsHIPP17 in yeast cells. Meanwhile, the overexpression of OsHIPP17 resulted in the compromised growth of Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) under Cu stress. The root length of Oshipp17 mutant lines was also significantly reduced by 16.74- 24.36% under 25 mM Cu stress. The roots of Oshipp17 rice mutant showed increased Cu concentration by 7.25%-23.32%. Meanwhile, knockout of OsHIPP17 decreased the expression levels of OsATX1, OsZIP1, OsCOPT5 or OsHMA5, and increased the expression levels of OsCOPT1 or OsHMA4. Antioxidant enzyme activity was also reduced in rice due to the knockout of OsHIPP17. Moreover, the expression levels of cytokinin-related genes in plants under Cu stress were also affected by overexpression or knockout of OsHIPP17.DiscussionThese results implied that OsHIPP17 might play a role in plant Cu toxic response by affecting the expression of Cu transport genes or cytokinin-related genes. Simultaneously, our work may shed light on the underlying mechanism of how heavy metals affect the plant growth and provide a novel rice genetic source for phytoremediation of heavy metal-contaminated soil.

BackgroundThe accuracy and sensitivity of conventional microbiological tests (CMTs) are insufficient to identify opportunistic pathogens in patients with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs). The study aimed to assess the usefulness of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) vs. CMTs for the diagnosis of pulmonary infections in patients with SARDs receiving immunosuppressant therapy.MethodsThe medical records of 40 patients with pulmonary infections and SARDs treated with immunosuppressants or corticosteroids were reviewed retrospectively. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples were collected from all patients and examined by mNGS and CMTs. Diagnostic values of the CMTs and mNGS were compared with the clinical composite diagnosis as the reference standard.ResultsOf the 40 patients included for analysis, 37 (92.5%) were diagnosed with pulmonary infections and 3 (7.5%) with non-infectious diseases, of which two were considered primary diseases and one an asthma attack. In total, 15 pathogens (7 bacteria, 5 fungi, and 3 viruses) were detected by CMTs as compared to 58 (36 bacteria, 12 fungi, and 10 viruses) by mNGS. Alveolar epithelial cell (AEC) senescence is a key driver of a variety of chronic lung diseases. It remains a challenge how to alleviate AEC senescence and mitigate disease progression. Our study identified a critical role of epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs), downstream metabolites of arachidonic acid (ARA) by cytochrome p450 (CYP), in alleviating AEC senescence. In vitro, we found that 14,15-EET content was significantly decreased in senescent AECs. Exogenous EETs supplementation, overexpression of CYP2J2, or inhibition of EETs degrading enzyme soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) to increase EETs alleviated AECs' senescence. Mechanistically, 14,15-EET promoted the expression of Trim25 to ubiquitinate and degrade Keap1 and promoted Nrf2 to enter the nucleus to exert an anti-oxidant effect, thereby inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and alleviating AEC senescence. Furthermore, in D-galactose (D-gal)-induced premature aging mouse model, inhibiting the degradation of EETs by Trifluoromethoxyphenyl propionylpiperidin urea (TPPU, an inhibitor of sEH) significantly inhibited the protein expression of p16, p21, and γH2AX. Meanwhile, TPPU reduced the degree of age-related pulmonary fibrosis in mice. Our study has confirmed that EETs are novel anti-senescence substances for AECs, providing new targets for the treatment of chronic lung diseases.

After the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheath crack, the hanger steel wires of large-span suspension bridge are prone to corrosion under the erosion of the marine rainfall environment. This study investigates the influence of the outer rust layer on the impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) and the corrosion behavior of hanger steel wires. The corrosion morphology and corrosion products of the wire are analyzed by SEM and XRD. The result shows that in the simulated marine rainfall environment, both ICCP and removal of the outer rust layer can reduce the corrosion rate of hanger steel wires. Especially the removal of the outer rust layer can significantly improve the cathodic protection efficiency. Removing the initial outer rust layer on the surface before applying ICCP is a benefit for forming a complete and dense corrosion product layer. In addition, it contributes to the generation of Zn5(OH)8Cl2H2O and Al2O3 with stable structures in the corrosion products. These corrosion products benefit to forming a passivation film, which helps isolate the iron matrix from harmful substances.

Abstract Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) has been suggested to purpose threats to health of mankind. Alcoholic hepatitis (AH) is a life‐threatening acute and chronic liver failure that takes place in sufferers who drink excessively. During the epidemic, AH has an increasing incidence of severe illness and mortality. The intrinsic relationship of molecular pathogenesis, as well as common therapeutic strategies for two diseases are still poorly understood. The transcriptome of the COVID‐19 and AH has been compared to obtain the altered genes and hub genes were screened out through protein–protein interaction (PPI) network analysis. Via gene ontology (GO), pathway enrichment, and transcription regulator analysis, a deeper appreciation of the interplay mechanism between hub genes were established. Finally, gene‐disease and gene–drug analysis were displayed to instruct the clinical treatments. With 181 common differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of AH and COVID‐19 were obtained, 10 hub genes were captured. Follow‐up studies located that these 10 genes typically mediated the diseases occurrence by regulating the activities of the immune system. Other results suggest that the common pathways of the two ailments are enriched in regulating the function of immune cells and release of immune molecules. The top 10 drug candidates have been chosen primarily, some of which have been proved effective in treating AH sufferers infected with COVID‐19. This study reveals the common pathogenesis of COVID‐19 and AH and assist to discover necessary therapeutic targets to combat the ongoing pandemic induced via SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and acquire promising remedy strategies for the two diseases.

ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to screen for latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) using the T-SPOT.TB assay and to identify factors affecting the assay results. SLE patients were enrolled from 13 tertiary hospitals in eastern, central, and western China from September 2014 to March 2016 and were screened using the T-SPOT.TB assay to detect LTBI. Basic information about the subjects was collected, including gender, age, body mass index (BMI), course of disease, evidence of previous tuberculosis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI-2K) score, and the use of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants. Univariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression were performed to identify factors affecting the results of the T-SPOT.TB assay. In all, 2,229 SLE patients were screened using the T-SPOT.TB assay, of whom 334 patients tested positive, yielding a positivity rate of 15% (95% confidence interval [CI], 13.5% to 16.5%). The positivity rate was higher in male than female patients and had an increasing trend with age. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that patients over 40 (odds ratio [OR], 1.65; 95% CI, 1.29 to 2.10) and with evidence of previous tuberculosis (OR, 4.43; 95% CI, 2.81 to 6.99) were more likely to have positive T-SPOT.TB results, while patients with a SLEDAI-2K score of ≥10 (OR, 0.61; 95% CI, 0.43 to 0.88), a glucocorticoid dose of ≥60 mg/d (OR, 0.62; 95% CI, 0.39 to 0.98), leflunomide (LEF) treatment (OR, 0.51; 95% CI, 0.29 to 0.88), or tacrolimus (FK506) treatment (OR, 0.40; 95% CI, 0.16 to 1.00) were more likely to have negative T-SPOT.TB results. ObjectivesBoth burdens of tuberculosis (TB) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in China are ranked as top three in the world. SLE patients are at high risk for TB, but so far, there are no guidelines for TB prevention and management targeting this population in China. This study aims to investigate the incidence of active tuberculosis (ATB) and to explore the risk factors for developing ATB in SLE patients, and to provide evidence for TB prevention and management for SLE patients in China.MethodsA multi-center prospective cohort study was conducted. SLE patients were enrolled from clinics and wards of 13 tertiary hospitals in Eastern, Middle, and Western China from September 2014 to March 2016. Baseline demographic features, TB infection status, clinical information, and laboratory data were collected. ATB development was examined during follow-up visits. Kaplan-Meier method was applied to plot survival curves, and Log-rank test was used to evaluate differences. Cox proportional-hazards model was used to explore the risk factors for ATB development.ResultsWith a median follow-up time of 58 months [interquartile range (IQR): 55-62], 16 out of 1361 SLE patients developed ATB. BackgroundDepression escalating public health concern and the modest efficacy of currently available treatments have prompted efforts to identify modifiable risk factors associated with depression symptoms. Physical inactivity, poor nutrition, or other lifestyle behaviors are among the potentially modifiable risk factors most consistently linked with depression. Past evidence regarding the single effect of physical activity (PA) or dietary quality (DQ) on reducing the risk of depression symptoms has been well-documented. However, the association of the joint effect of PA and DQ on depression symptoms has never been investigated in a representative sample of adults. ObjectiveThis study investigates the association between PA and depression symptoms and between DQ and depression symptoms, and their combined effects on US adults. MethodsData were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007 to 2018 cycles. The primary exposures were DQ and PA, measured using the Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2015 and the metabolic equivalent (MET) minutes per week reported in questionnaires, respectively. Depression symptoms were defined as a 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) score of ≥10. We created 4 lifestyle categories: healthy diet and active individuals, unhealthy diet but active individuals, healthy diet but inactive individuals, and unhealthy diet and inactive individuals. Participants were considered to have a healthy diet if they fell within the 60th percentile of the HEI-2015 or to be active if they met the current guidelines for PA. A survey-multivariable logistic regression approach was used to model adjust the variables relevant to the associations, and an age-adjusted prevalence for depression symptoms was calculated following the NHANES guidelines. ResultsIn total, 19,295 participants represented a weighted number of 932.5 million adults aged 20 to 80 years in the noninstitutionalized US population. The total age-adjusted prevalence of depression symptoms among all respondents was 7.08% (1507/19,295). Of the respondents, 81.97% (15,816/19,295) met the PA recommendation and 26.79% (5170/19,295) scored at or above the 60th percentile on the HEI-2015. Depression symptoms were inversely associated with a higher level of PA (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 0.819, 95% CI 0.716-0.938) and healthy DQ (AOR 0.809, 95% CI 0.701-0.931), respectively. A healthy diet combined with recommended PA was associated with a significantly lower risk of depression symptoms (AOR 0.658, 95% CI 0.538-0.803) than those who consumed an unhealthy diet but were physically active (AOR 0.890, 95% CI 0.765-1.038) or consumed a healthy diet but were physically inactive (AOR 1.077, 95% CI 0.817-1.406). ConclusionsOur findings indicate that people with a healthy diet and recommended PA have a lower risk of depression symptoms than those with an unhealthy diet and a low level of PA. A healthy dietary habit and regular PA are potential precautions against depression.

Ta-10W alloy has great potential in the aerospace and nuclear industries due to its good formability, high melting point and excellent high-temperature strength. The purpose of this study was to experimentally research the tribological behaviors of Ta-10W at elevated temperatures and the effects of temperatures on the friction coefficient and the wear rate of Ta-10W in sliding wear. It was found that the main wear mechanism of the material at 100°C was abrasive wear, as well as adhesive wear and slight oxidative wear occurred at 200°C and 300°C. The friction coefficients increased as the temperature rose, which was attributed to the increase in metal viscosity at elevated temperatures. The wear rate gradually decreased with the temperature rising, such that there was a conversion from severe wear to light wear. At 200°C and 300°C, a large amount of stable oxide film covered the scar surface, resulting in decreased wear rate.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are commonly associated with poor prognosis and are primarily caused by germline mutations in the SMARCB1/INI-1 gene. However, these tumors are rarely found in the spine. This case report presents the case of a 3-year-old boy diagnosed with a lumbosacral dumbbell-shaped epithelioid MPNST, an extremely uncommon manifestation. Immunohistochemistry revealed the complete absence of the SMARCB1/INI-1 protein, and genetic testing identified a novel germline mutation in the SMARCB1/INI-1 gene in both the patient and his father, suggesting a “second-hit loss.” One year of follow-up after the tumor's radical resection revealed no suspected metastasis. This case report offers novel genetic research results regarding spinal dumbbell-shaped MPNSTs. Six studies, including 13 cases associated with spinal dumbbell MPNST, were included in the literature. The range of age of these patients varied from 2 to 71 years. Of the 12 known patients diagnosed with spinal dumbbell MPNST, only one received radiation therapy, while the rest underwent surgery. Two patients who underwent partial resection had metastases after surgery, while one of the five patients who underwent complete surgical resection alone had no distant metastases and a good prognosis, indicating that radical resection is more likely to be effective in inhibiting distant metastasis and improving the prognosis.

Making tea from jujube leaves changed the chemical composition and aroma composition of jujube leaves. Here, Through LC-MS, GC-IMS, and GC-MS technology, we have revealed the effect of jujube leaf processing changes on metabolites. LC-MS identified 468 non-volatile metabolites, while GC-IMS and GC-MS detected 52 and 24 volatile metabolites, respectively. 109 non-volatile metabolites exhibiting more pronounced differences were screened. Most lipids and lipid-like molecules, organic acids, amino acids, and flavonoids increased significantly after processing. GC-IMS and GC-MS analysis revealed that the contents of aldehydes and ketones were significantly increased, while esters and partial alcohols were decreased after processing into jujube leaf tea. The main flavor substances of fresh jujube leaf and jujube leaf tea were eugenol and (E) - 2-Hexenal, respectively. Furthermore, amino acids and lipids were closely linked to the formation of volatile metabolites. Our study provided new insights into the changes in metabolites of jujube leaves processed into jujube leaf tea, and had great potential for industrial application. It laid a foundation for further research on fruit tree leaf tea.

Background Chronic periodontitis (CP) and allergic rhinitis (AR) have attracted wide attention as global public health problems with high incidence. Recent studies have shown that circulating interleukin-27 (IL-27) is associated with the risk of CP and AR. The aim of this study is to analyze the causal effect between them using Mendelian randomization (MR)Methods Bidirectional MR analyses were performed with the use of publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) data. Summary data on circulating IL-27, CP, and AR published in genome-wide association studies were collected. Instrumental variables (IV) were extracted using assumptions of correlation, independence and exclusivity as criteria. Inverse variance weighting (IVW) was used as the main method, combined with weighted median method (WM) and MR-Egger and other MR Analysis methods for causal inference of exposure and outcome. Cochran’s Q and MR-Egger intercept were used for sensitivity analysisResults The IVW study showed a causal effect between increased circulating IL-27 levels and increased risk of CP (OR = 1.14, 95%CI = 1.02–1.26, p = .020). Similarly, the increase of circulating IL-27 level had a causal effect on the decreased risk of AR (OR = 0.88, 95%CI = 0.80–0.97, p = .012). In addition, IVW study found that there was a causal between the increased risk of CP and circulating IL-27 level (OR = 1.05, 95%CI = 1.01–1.10, p = .016). However, there was no significant causal relationship between the risk of AR and circulating IL-27 levels (OR = 0.97, 95%CI = 0.91–1.02, p = .209). no significant heterogeneity or horizontal pleiotropy was found in sensitivity analysis.Conclusions There is a causal effect between circulating IL-27 level and CP, AR, which will help to find new ideas and methods for the diagnosis and treatment of CP and AR.

AbstractThis study reviews the literature to determine how cognitive factors affect consumers’ value perception and video streaming platform subscription intentions. This study analyses 20 Scopus and Web of Science peer-reviewed articles to examine the complex relationship between cognitive factors, perceived value and users’ decision-making. The cognitive factors perceived quality, content relevance, variety, enjoyment, cost-benefit ratio, and personalization help explain how users value video streaming platforms. Analyzing these factors can reveal the complex mechanisms that influence users’ platform subscriptions. This has practical implications for industry professionals. The research shows that technical dependability, tailored content suggestions, a variety of content, emotionally engaging content, clear benefit communication, and adaptable experiences shape users’ value perceptions. The above implications are especially relevant in dynamic digital environments influenced by the global pandemic and technological advances. This study also advances consumer behavior theory. This study applies existing models and frameworks to video streaming platforms, adding to the literature. The findings of this study enhance perceived value theory, technology adoption models, personalization theories, and engagement frameworks. These findings improve our understanding of digital user behavior. The study’s narrow focus on cognitive factors and self-reported data are limitations, but it provides valuable insights. These limitations allow future research to explore unexplored areas and use new methods.

ABSTRACTTo investigate the HPV vaccine coverage and post-vaccination adverse reactions in Gansu Province, Western China, from 2018 to 2021. Data on suspected adverse reactions to HPV vaccines were collected from the Chinese Vaccine Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI). Estimate the incidence rates of Common Adverse Reaction and Rare Adverse Reaction. HPV vaccine coverage among females in different age groups was calculated using data from the Gansu Provincial Immunization Information Platform. The first-dose HPV vaccine coverage rate among females aged 9 to 45 was 2.02%, with the lowest rate of less than 1% observed in females aged 9 to 14. From 2018 to 2021, the incidence rates of Common Adverse Reaction and Rare Adverse Reaction reported in females after HPV vaccination were 11.82 and 0.39 per 100,000 doses, respectively. Common Adverse Reaction included fever (5.52 per 100,000 doses), local redness and swelling (3.33 per 100,000 doses), fatigue (3.15 per 100,000 doses), headache (2.76 per 100,000 doses), as well as local induration and nausea/vomiting (1.97 per 100,000 doses). Adverse reactions mainly occurred within 1 day after vaccination, followed by 1 to 3 days after vaccination. The HPV vaccine coverage rate among females aged 9 to 14 in Gansu Province is remarkably low, and there is an urgent need to enhance vaccine coverage. From 2018 to 2021, the incidence of Adverse reaction Following Immunization HPV vaccination fell within the expected range, indicating the vaccine’s safety profile.

AbstractReservoir impoundment is the main factor inducing reservoir landslides, it is essential to obtain the dynamic landslide susceptibility by considering hydraulic factors. In this paper, we proposed the use of the original and revised logistic regression models (machine learning methods) to analyze the landslide susceptibility after the second stage of reservoir impoundment. Data of active unstable slopes before the first stage of reservoir impoundment were used to train the models. The results indicated that the two models both performed well with high accuracy. The revised logistic regression model performed better than the original logistic regression model in two aspects. Firstly, TPR and AUC of the revised model is 0.771 and 0.906 which is obviously higher than the original model of 0.743 and 0.896. Secondly, the revised model can predict the unstable slopes after reservoir impoundment which the original model can’t predict. The former could be used to obtain the dynamic landslide susceptibility in reservoir areas after different stages of reservoir impoundment and predict the potential reactivated unstable slopes more precisely due to hydraulic factors.

Abstract A high geological background can increase the ecological and health risks associated with crop production; therefore, it is essential to assess the heavy metals and their impact. In this study, ecological and health risk impacts of heavy metal contamination, in combination with positive matrix factorization was assessed for an area with high geological background with wheat–maize cropping system, to provide a quantitative understanding of the effects of heavy metals, enabling its prevention and control. This study revealed that the comprehensive ecological risk (RI wheat–maize ) is 56.21 (low), with industries being the biggest contributors (34.22%). Comprehensive health risk (non-carcinogenic) assessment showed that industrial (40.98–49.30%) and natural (23.96–37.64%) factors were the primary (particularly of Cd and Zn) and secondary (particularly of Cr and Ni) contributors, respectively in eastern China. Comprehensive health risk (HI wheat–maize ) for children and adults were 0.74 and 0.42, respectively, indicating that non-carcinogenic risks were at an acceptable level. Soil ingestion was the primary pathway for health risks (62.23–73.00%), especially for children. Based on soil heavy metal sources and crop systems, source-ecological risk assessment and source-health risk assessment were used to provided valuable insights on making strategies to protect human health in high geological background areas.

Abstract To understand how stover incorporation affects the levels of soil carbon and its biogeochemistry process, we examined soil carbon and amino sugar carbon (AS‐C). Activity of N‐acetylglucosaminidase (NAGase) and the abundance (real‐time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, RT‐qPCR) and communities of the bacterial chitinase‐encoding gene (chiA) were monitored. We implemented a maize cropping system, which included four treatments, i.e., chopped maize stover returned directly (SD), compost produced by maize stover (SC), biochar produced by maize stover (BC), and stover removal (CK). The results showed that BC and SD enhanced soil organic carbon (SOC), microbial biomass carbon:SOC, total AS‐C, glucosamine carbon, galactosamine carbon, NAGase activity, and chiA gene abundance significantly. There were significant positive correlations between the abundance of the soil chiA gene and NAGase activity. Biochar and stover treatments increased the number of total operational taxonomic units (OTUs), unique OTUs, and the chao 1 and ACE richness indices, but decreased the Shannon and Simpson diversity indices. The dominant chiA‐harboring bacterial phyla were Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidetes. Some detectable genera in Actinobacteria had high relative abundance, including Streptomyces, Actinoplanes, and Amycolatopsis. PLS‐DA and CCoA revealed that the chiA community in the BC or SD plots was significantly different from that in the CK plots, and differences between BC and SD were not significant. Similar soil properties, diversity, and the abundance of chiA were observed between SC and CK. Greater abundance and diversity of the chiA gene with BC incorporation were associated with higher pH, SOC, and TN concentration. Soil pH was related to the composition and abundances of the chiA‐harboring microbial communities (CCA).

Abstract Background The aim of the present work was to cross-culturally adapt the Postpartum Depression Literacy Scale (PoDLiS) and use a descriptive cross-sectional design to evaluate its psychometric properties in Chinese perinatal women. Methods Brislin’s translation theory was applied to translate the PoDLiS, with subsequent cultural adaptation. The reliability and validity of the PoDLiS were determined using a questionnaire in 635 Chinese perinatal women. Results Good internal consistency was found (omega coefficient, 0.894) for the Chinese version of the Postpartum Depression Literacy Scale (PoDLiS-C), with omega coefficients of the six dimensions of 0.865, 0.870, 0.838, 0.777, 0.837 and 0.794, and a test–retest reliability coefficient of 0.874. The item-level content validity index (CVI) ranged from 0.8 to 1 while the scale-level CVI was 0.968. Moreover, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) determined satisfactory construct validity of the PoDLiS-C, with the six-factor model explaining 60.76% of the total variance, demonstrating good model fit (likelihood ratio χ2/df, 1.003; goodness-of-fit index, 0.916; adjusted goodness-of-fit index, 0.901; comparative fit index, 0.999; incremental fit index, 0.999; root mean square error of approximation, 0.003; and standardized root mean square error of approximation, 0.0478). Conclusions The PoDLiS-C has adequate psychometric properties. This tool could be used to assess the postpartum depression literacy of perinatal women in Chinese-speaking populations.

Abstract. Background:. The impact of sex on the clinical manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were diversely reported in the literature. The Chinese Registry of rhEumatoiD arthrITis provides a platform for the investigation of this issue in Chinese patients. Methods:. Demographic and clinical parameters were collected from all enrolled patients with RA and from patients with early RA (disease duration ≤6 months). The differences in data regarding disease activity, comorbidities, and medications for RA were compared between men and women. The proportions of patients who achieved remission and low disease activity were compared at enrollment and during 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-up visits. Results:. A total of 11,564 patients were enrolled, 83.6% of whom were female. In all the enrolled patients and patients with early RA, C-reactive protein (CRP, 12.0 vs. 6.7 mg/L), pain visual analogue scale (4.8 vs. 4.5), patient's and physician's global assessment (4.9 vs. 4.5 and 4.9 vs. 4.5), 28-joint disease activity score using DAS28-CRP (4.3 vs. 4.0) simplified disease activity index (21.9 vs. 19.9), and clinical disease activity index (19.3 vs. 18.0) were significantly higher in men than in women. Additionally, the swollen joint count/tender joint count and DAS28 using erythrocyte sedimentation rate were higher in male patients than in female patients with early RA. More female patients with early RA reached the treatment target at baseline than male patients (23.4% vs. 18.2%, assessed by CDAI). At 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months, the proportion of remission and treatment target achievement was similar in both sexes. Coronary artery disease (CAD) and stroke were more frequent in men than in women. Conclusions:. In Chinese patients with RA, men were found to have more active disease, as well as more cases of CAD and stroke. Therefore, sex should be carefully considered during the personalization of RA treatment.

Abstract Background Nitrogen is considered the most limiting nutrient element for herbivorous insects. To alleviate nitrogen limitation, insects have evolved various symbiotically mediated strategies that enable them to colonize nitrogen-poor habitats or exploit nitrogen-poor diets. In frugivorous tephritid larvae developing in fruit pulp under nitrogen stress, it remains largely unknown how nitrogen is obtained and larval development is completed. Results In this study, we used metagenomics and metatranscriptomics sequencing technologies as well as in vitro verification tests to uncover the mechanism underlying the nitrogen exploitation in the larvae of Bactrocera dorsalis. Our results showed that nitrogenous waste recycling (NWR) could be successfully driven by symbiotic bacteria, including Enterobacterales, Lactobacillales, Orbales, Pseudomonadales, Flavobacteriales, and Bacteroidales. In this process, urea hydrolysis in the larval gut was mainly mediated by Morganella morganii and Klebsiella oxytoca. In addition, core bacteria mediated essential amino acid (arginine excluded) biosynthesis by ammonium assimilation and transamination. Conclusions Symbiotic bacteria contribute to nitrogen transformation in the larvae of B. dorsalis in fruit pulp. Our findings suggest that the pattern of NWR is more likely to be applied by B. dorsalis, and M. morganii, K. oxytoca, and other urease-positive strains play vital roles in hydrolysing nitrogenous waste and providing metabolizable nitrogen for B. dorsalis.

Abstract In modern era, the maintenance of public infrastructure often takes up a large share of financial budget for a city. The management of these urban assets is supported by a frequently updated inventory reflecting facility conditions. Traditional methods relying on inspection staff or sensors are faced with two main challenges: comprehensive and standardized data collection; quick and automatic assessment process. In this technical note, we introduce a unified method for condition assessment, purely based on street views and machine learning to develop perception quantification models with pairwise labeling datasets. In this way, the two problems could be solved with automatic and scalable processes, updatable algorithms, and affordable costs The method has been tested in the city of Ulaanbaatar, in which a benchmark covering the assessment of eight types of urban infrastructure (roadway, road curbs, road markings, road signs, sidewalks, catch basins, guardrails, and manholes) is demonstrated.

Refill friction stir spot welding (RFSSW) of high strength aluminum alloy has a wide application prospect. However, there are few studies between the microstructure and macroscopic corrosion behavior, causing a significant impediment in corrosion protection of the joint. Therefore, the microstructure and corrosion behavior of 7050 aluminum alloy RFSSW joint was investigated in this paper. Due to the difference of microstructure, the joint can be divided into five zones, namely stir zone (SZ), thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ), heat affected zone-I (HAZ-I), heat affected zone-II (HAZ-II) and base metal (BM). Therein, the grain size and the micron-sized second phase particles of SZ were fine, while other areas were coarse. And they were mainly Al2CuMg and Al7Cu2Fe. After intergranular corrosion and exfoliation corrosion tests, it was indicated that the grain morphology and second phase particles did not significantly affect the corrosion susceptibility, but the continuous degree of intergranular nano-precipitates was the key factor. A coefficient r was defined to quantitatively characterize the continuous degree of intergranular nano-precipitates. The HAZ-II and TMAZ exhibited high corrosion sensitivity with a high value of r, while HAZ-I and SZ exhibited low corrosion sensitivity with a low r. The corrosion mechanism was also briefly discussed.

Abstract Background Adolescent obesity has been reported to have deleterious consequences but is considered a promising modifiable risk factor. We aimed to investigate the optimal intervention for obese and overweight children and adolescents. Methods We searched the Medline (PubMed, 1946–December 2020), PsycINFO (Ovid, 1927–December 2020), Cochrane library (1966–December 2020), Web of Science (1900–December 2020), Embase (1974–December 2020), CINAHL (1937–December 2020), Chinese Biomedical Literature (1978–December 2020), and ClinicalTrials.gov (December 2020) databases. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting the association between various interventions and obese/overweight children and adolescents. The quality of the included studies was judged by two independent reviewers using the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Tool. A Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted to summarize the comparative effectiveness of interventions based on several outcomes. Results We included 118 RCTs comprising 71,064 participants in our analyses. Based on the outcome of the body mass index (BMI), face-to-face physical activity (FTF PA) combined with dietary intervention (DI) (mean difference [MD] = − 0.98; 95% credible interval [CrI] − 1.19, − 0.77), FTF multi-lifestyle intervention (MLI) (MD = − 0.95; 95% CrI − 1.14, − 0.75), and mobile health (MH)-delivered MLI (MD = − 0.87; 95% CrI − 1.63, − 0.09) showed significant benefits over the named control group (NCG). For the outcome of BMI z-score, FTF PA+DI (MD = − 0.10; 95% CrI − 0.15, − 0.04) and MH-delivered PA+DI (MD = − 0.09; 95% CrI − 0.14, − 0.04) were more effective than the NCG. Wire-based additive manufacturing (AM) shows a promising prospect in fabricating large-scale titanium aerospace components at a high deposition rate and low cost. The currently used wire-based AM processes commonly utilize a lateral feeding method with an acute angle to form a deposit, which reduces the flexibility and increases the difficulty of control in making complex components. In this work, a novel coaxial laser metal wire deposition (LMWD) process was used to fabricate the most widely used titanium alloy, Ti6Al4V. The coaxial wire feeding was achieved by a coaxial laser head through a vertically fed wire surrounded by an annular shape beam at focal plane. The surface quality, microstructure and mechanical properties of the deposited Ti6Al4V were examined. To show the characteristic of the coaxial LMWD process, conventional lateral LMWD was also conducted for comparison. The deposited Ti6Al4V wall showed a high surface quality and a microstructure with a mix of equiaxed β grains and columnar prior-β grains rather than coarse prior-β grains. The refined microstructure resulted in a low anisotropy in mechanical properties. The mechanism of the equiaxed β grains formation was also discussed. The combined effect of the reduced thermal gradient and the heterogeneous nucleation from the coaxial wire feeding played an important role in determining the refined microstructures in coaxial LMWD.

Abstract To solve the problem of the mismatch of the wideband underdetermined direction of arrival (DOA) estimation under the condition of the On‐grid model, this paper extends the narrowband Off‐Grid model to wideband and proposes a new DOA estimation algorithm for Off‐Grid sources based on group sparsity. The proposed algorithm first obtains the preliminary estimation result under the current predefined discrete grid through the group sparsity wideband DOA estimation algorithm. Then, the Off‐Grid optimisation problem is adopted to calculate the Off‐Grid deviation vector. It is also assumed that the off‐grid deviation vectors of each frequency subband are exactly the same, thereby reducing the number of parameters to be estimated. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can not only maintain similar or even better estimation accuracy but also greatly reduce the computational complexity. Finally, simulation is conducted and the results verify the effectiveness and performance of the proposed method.

Abstract Background Maternal anxiety induced by neonatal jaundice has adverse effects on maternal and infant health, but there was no specific tool to identify the anxiety level of mothers. This study aims to develop a Maternal Anxiety for Neonatal Jaundice Scale (MANJS) and to validate it in the target population. Methods An initial 11-items MANJS was developed through literature review, expert panel consultation, and a pilot-test. Subsequently, mothers of neonates with jaundice were recruited from the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hainan Province, China, from June to December 2018, for a formal questionnaire survey. Based on the data collected, the scale was validated for construct validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, content validity, and internal consistency reliability after the items screening. Results The reliability and validity of MANJS were validated in 1127 mothers of jaundiced neonates. After the item with cross-loadings was removed using exploratory factor analysis, MANJS consisted of two dimensions and 10 items, with a cumulative variance contribution of 74.36% and factor loadings above 0.6 for all items. The confirmatory factor analysis identified three items with cross-factor loading or error correlation and then they were removed orderly. The further confirmatory factor analysis showed a good construct validity for the 7-item MANJS, with standardized root mean square residual (SRMR) = 0.029, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.068, comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.961, Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.937, incremental fit index (IFI) = 0.961, normed fit index (NFI) = 0.954, goodness of fit index (GFI) = 0.998, adjusted goodness of fit index (AGFI) = 0.996, respectively. The average variance extracted values (AVE) of the two factors were 0.80 and 0.72, and the combined reliability (CR) were 0.94 and 0.88, respectively. Cronbach’s alpha was 0.90 for the MANJS, and split-half reliability was 0.72. Conclusions MANJS was demonstrated to have satisfactory reliability and validity in evaluating maternal anxiety caused by neonatal jaundice among Chinese postpartum women.

Abstract The streamer dynamics and charge self‐erasing of two counter‐propagating plasmas generated by repetitively pulsed surface dielectric barrier discharge are investigated using electrical and optical diagnosis, and a two‐dimensional fluid model. Three distinct discharge phases of primary, transitional and secondary streamers are identified in a single‐pulse discharge through the time‐resolved plasma images. Moreover, a merging phenomenon of the two opposing primary streamers is observed at the middle position of the discharge gap. Compared to the first pulse, a low streamer propagation velocity of the primary streamer is measured during the subsequent discharge process due to the limitation of residual surface charges left by the previous discharge. No significant differences of the transferred charge and the deposited energy are obtained in the sequential pulses at a discharge gap of 9 mm. Numerical simulations show that a reduction for the plasma intensity of the approached two primary streamers is attributed by the accumulated charge on the dielectric surface and gathered positive charges in the streamer head. Numerical and experimental studies indicate that the residual charges can be erased by the secondary streamer through the drifted electrons, namely that a phenomenon of charge self‐erasing can be realized in the individual pulse.

Abstract This study aimed to explore the association between types and numbers of comorbidities and stigma among breast cancer survivors (BCSs). A cross-sectional study was conducted among 937 BCSs in Shanghai Cancer Rehabilitation Club. All participants were asked to fill in an online questionnaire including Stigma Scale for Chronic Illnesses 8-item version (SSCI-8) and questions on sociodemographic characteristics and health status. Multivariate linear regression was used to analyze the association between comorbidities and stigma, adjusting for confounding factors. Results showed that nearly 70% of the participants had one or more comorbidities. The participants with stroke, digestive diseases or musculoskeletal diseases had significantly higher stigma than those without the above comorbidities. In addition, stigma was higher among survivors in the group with a greater number of comorbidities. Thus, it is important to strengthen the management of stigma in BCSs, especially for those with comorbidities.

AIM: To explore whether nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase 2 (NOX2) is expressed in fungal keratitis in mice and investigate its role in this disease. METHODS: NOX2 expression was detected in C57BL/6 mice. After testing the inhibitory effect of diphenyleneiodonium chloride (DPI) on NOX2, its impact on clinical performance, myeloperoxidase levels, the number of colonies forming units, the level of H3, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the release of cytokines [NF-κB, interleukin-17A (IL-17A), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), Nrf2, IL-10, and TGF-β] were compared. A one-way ANOVA and an unpaired, two-tailed Student's t-test was used to determine the statistical significance. RESULTS: NOX2 expression was significantly increased after Aspergillus fumigatus injection in corneas and that this increase could be reduced by treatment with DPI. DPI treatment produced more severe inflammation and resulted in higher clinical scores, more neutrophils infiltration, a weakened ability to clear fungi, the release of fewer ROS and the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps. Treatment with DPI increased the expression of the proinflammatory cytokines NF-κB, IL-17A, IL-6, and TNF-α and decreased the expression of the anti-inflammatory cytokines Nrf2, IL-10 and TGF-β compared to their expression levels without DPI treatment. CONCLUSION: NOX2 plays an important role against Aspergillus fumigatus in the mouse cornea through killing fungi and limiting the degree of inflammation.
