Purpose We investigated whether social health mitigates the association between weight perception and anxiety and depression 1 year later in a large sample of Canadian youth in a prospective, gender-specific analysis. Methods We used 2 years of linked survey data from 20,485 grade 9–11 students who participated in wave 6 (2017/18) and 7 (2018/19) of the COMPASS study. Mental health outcomes included the Generalized Anxiety Disorder—7 item (GAD-7) scale and the 10-item Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale Revised (CESD-10-R). Social health encompassed students’ perceived relationships with friends, family, teachers, and within schools. Multilevel, prospective, linear models regressed mental health (at wave 7) on social health (at wave 6) and weight perception (at wave 6) while controlling for weight status, ethnicity, and grade (at wave 6). Interaction terms were used to test social health factors as moderators in the association between weight perception and mental health. Results Overweight perceptions were associated with higher anxiety and depression scores among youth; this was more pronounced among females. Social health was associated with lower anxiety and depression scores. Among females only, an overweight perception had the highest predicted scores for significant depressive symptoms. Among males only, underweight perceptions were associated with higher anxiety scores. No social health factors had moderating effects in females, and only two interactions were significant among males: feeling safe at school had protective associations with anxiety scores among those with underweight perceptions while those with overweight perceptions had higher depression scores when they reported rewarding social relationships. Conclusion Overweight perceptions in all youth, and underweight perceptions in males, predicted anxiety and depression symptoms 1 year later. The role of social health should not be discounted as a means of preventing anxiety and depression in youth, although this study suggests it is not sufficient to protect against adverse associations with overweight perceptions for all youth, and underweight perceptions for males. The relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and the stock market has been well documented in other studies. However, thus far, researchers have shown little interest in the role of political connections and Sharia compliance during the pandemic. This study offers novel evidence by investigating the value of both political connections and Sharia compliance during the present pandemic. We use two kinds of analysis. First, using the event-study methodology, we measure the stock market reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, to further sharpen our identification of the value of political connections and Sharia compliance during the current pandemic, we use a pooled regression analysis. We find that there was a stock market anomaly during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia in that the pandemic had a positive impact on the stock market. We also find that there was value for firms in being Sharia-compliant during the pandemic when the government announced tax incentives for firms. Based on these results, we offer insights relevant to policymakers and financial market authorities seeking to enhance the effectiveness of policy measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, our study also has important implications for individual investors.

The objective of the work is to develop an automated emotion recognition system specifically targeted to elderly people. A multi-modal system is developed which has integrated information from audio and video modalities. The database selected for experiments is ElderReact, which contains 1323 video clips of 3 to 8 s duration of people above the age of 50. Here, all the six available emotions Disgust, Anger, Fear, Happiness, Sadness and Surprise are considered. In order to develop an automated emotion recognition system for aged adults, we attempted different modeling techniques. Features are extracted, and neural network models with backpropagation are attempted for developing the models. Further, for the raw video model, transfer learning from pretrained networks is attempted. Convolutional neural network and long short-time memory-based models were taken by maintaining the continuity in time between the frames while capturing the emotions. For the audio model, cross-model transfer learning is applied. Both the models are combined by fusion of intermediate layers. The layers are selected through a grid-based search algorithm. The accuracy and F1-score show that the proposed approach is outperforming the state-of-the-art results. Classification of all the images shows a minimum relative improvement of 6.5% for happiness to a maximum of 46% increase for sadness over the baseline results.

Background Few studies have assessed depression in healthcare workers (HCWs) in Japan owing to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, and no studies have proposed effective interventions to help support their mental health. Aims To test the hypothesis that enhancing access to mental healthcare professionals helps to improve HCWs’ mental health. Methods This cross-sectional study assessed depressive symptoms in HCWs at three hospitals in Osaka prefecture between May and July, 2020. The survey obtained information on HCWs’ mental state and related situations/perceptions. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with depressive symptoms. Results Of the 3291 eligible HCWs, 1269 (39%) completed the survey. Of all HCWs, 87 (7%) were physicians, and 700 (55%) were nurses. A total of 181 (14%) HCWs had moderate-to-severe symptoms of depression. Being a frontline worker was not significantly associated with depressive symptoms (odds ratio: 0.86 [95% confidence intervals: 0.54–1.37], P = 0.50). The unwillingness to consult with anyone was significantly associated with more severe depressive symptoms (1.70 [1.10–2.63], P < 0.01). HCWs who had no opportunity to confide in family/friends (1.66 [1.10–2.52], P < 0.01) or colleagues/supervisors (3.19 [2.22–4.58], P < 0.001) were significantly more likely to have depressive symptoms. Conclusions Being a frontline HCW in a Japanese hospital treating patients with COVID-19 was not significantly associated with having depressive symptoms. The study highlights that encouraging daily communication with close persons (family, friends, colleagues and supervisors), rather than improving access to mental health professionals, might help to prevent depression in HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nowadays, blockchain technology and industry has developed rapidly all over the world, which is inseparable from continuous innovation and improvement on smart contract technology. Therefore, by summarizing the working principle and application research status of blockchain smart contract, this paper analyzes the development and challenges of smart contract. Firstly, we introduce the model and operation principle of blockchain smart contract for the overall architecture, analyze the deployment process of smart contract with Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric and EOSIO, and make a comparative analysis from the technical level. And taking Byteball, InterValue and IOTA platforms as examples, we introduce the deployment process and application potential for DAG-based blockchain smart contract. Additionally, we also summarize the application research of smart contract for international and Blockchain Oracle, and discuss its innovative application and development trend in the future. Secondly, we introduce the application status of smart contract with Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric platforms from the aspects of financial transactions, Internet of things, medical applications, and supply chain, and further discuss EOS (enterprise operation system), Blockchain Oracle and other application fields. Furthermore, we introduce the application advantages and challenges to smart contract for industrial Internet from the fields of manufacturing, food industry, industrial Internet of things and industry 4.0. Finally, we discuss the challenges faced by smart contract with technical issues, analyzes the impact on large-scale applications and mining system on the sustainable development of smart contract, and looks forward to the future research direction of blockchain smart contract.

HIV exposure is one of the greatest sexual risks in young people, and condom use is the best protective measure. Despite the preventive efforts, trend in condom use is still unclear. This study examines the trend of condom use by gender in Spanish young people, in different sexual practices (vaginal, oral and anal), relationships (regular and casual) and having sex after drugs consumption during the two past decades (from 1999 to 2020). For this, 14,472 people who ranged from 17 to 40 years old (63.5% women) filled the AIDS Prevention Questionnaire in each year. In general, low condom use remains stable and even gets worse regardless of the type of sexual practice, relationship and the substance consumption. Regarding gender, this trend is worse in women who have been less likely to report condom use than men have. Moreover, older people have reported a minor frequency of condom use than the youngest people have done, except for anal sex. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze why, despite preventive efforts, condom use seems to decrease over time. Preservice teachers' attitudes towards technology integration influence their motivation for and future behavior in teaching, but effective interventions to modify attitudes towards technology integration are scarce in teacher education programs. This quasi-experimental study redesigned and integrated one of the most widely used positive psychology interventions-Best Possible Self (BPS)-for use in a stand-alone technology integration course to measure its effect in improving preservice teachers' attitudes towards technology integration. While results show no statistically significant difference between the control and treatment groups, the treatment group had more positive trends (significant increase in positive attitudes) than the control group (no significant increase in positive attitudes) even under the negative influence of pandemic. The results of this study suggest a need for continued development of and research on this type of activity.

Many empirical exercises estimating demand functions are concerned with estimating dynamic effects of price and income changes over time. Researchers are typically interested in getting estimates of both short-run (SR) and long-run (LR) elasticities, along with their standard errors. This study aimed to contribute with estimations of demand elasticities of world phosphate fertilisers. It answered the research question “How world demand of phosphate fertilisers is affected by its own price changes, cross price changes, income changes and other variables?”. Short and long run elasticities are calculated using an economic model in this paper. The findings indicate that global phosphate demand is price inelastic both in the short and long run. In addition, in both the short and long run, income elasticity, cross price elasticity, and cross yield elasticity are inelastic. Our modeling predicts that phosphate consumption for fertilisers will increase from 45.35 million tons in 2018 to around 59.16 million tons by 2028; which implies that an average annual growth rate of 2.7% of P 2 O 5 will be required every year by phosphate consumers and that additional production capacity may be needed in order to meet this future demand. The results suggest that phosphate prices are forecast to increase, as long as demand continues to rise and no new production facilities are built.

The COVID-19 pandemic is continuously causing serious effects on the mental health of college students due to the series of lockdowns and sudden shifting of face-to-face classes to fully online. The study aims to determine and explore the various themes that play a significant role in the development of this issue by an in-depth study of selected reflection papers submitted in class. These texts were interpreted and analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Findings revealed three major themes: anxiety and depression as serious effects of the pandemic, God/Higher Being as the first and/or last source of support and, the essentiality of self-awareness and self-acceptance in improving mental health. These themes which are contextualized in nature hope to contribute to future research in formulating effective interventions and strategies in the war against the negative effects of the pandemic most especially for the welfare of college students.

As an occupational group, clergy exhibit numerous physical health problems. Given the physical health problems faced by clergy, understanding where physical health falls within the priorities of seminary students, the ways students conceptualize physical health, and how seminary students do or do not attend to their physical health in the years immediately prior to becoming clergy, can inform intervention development for both seminary students and clergy. Moreover, understanding and shaping the health practices of aspiring clergy may be particularly impactful, with cascading effects, as clergy serve as important role models for their congregants. Drawing on 36 in-depth, qualitative interviews with first-year seminary students, this study examines the complex dynamics between religious frameworks related to physical health, explicit intentions to maintain healthy practices, and reported physical health behaviors. Our findings suggest that even students who deploy religious frameworks in relation to their physical health—and who, as a result, possess positive intentions to implement and maintain healthy behaviors—often report being unable to live up to their aspirations, especially in the face of barriers to health practices posed by the seminary program itself. After reviewing these findings, we offer suggestions for physical health focused interventions, including action and coping planning, which could be implemented at seminaries to reduce the intention–behavior gap and improve clergy health. COVID-19 is a public health emergency for human beings and brings some very harmful consequences in social and economic fields. In order to model COVID-19 and develop the effective control measures, this paper proposes an SEIR-type epidemic model with the contacting distance between the healthy individuals and the asymptomatic or symptomatic infected individuals, and the immigration rate of the healthy individuals since the contacting distance and the immigration rate are two critical factors which determine the transmission of COVID-19. Firstly, the threshold values of the contacting distance and the immigration rate are obtained to analyze the presented model. Secondly, based on the data from January 10, 2020, to March 18, 2020, for Wuhan city, all parameters are estimated. Finally, based on the estimated parameters, the sensitivity analysis and the numerical study are conducted. The results show that the contacting distance and the immigration rate play an important role in controlling COVID-19. Meanwhile, the extinct lag decreases as the contacting distance increases and/or the immigration rate decreases. Our study could give some reasonable suggestions for the health officials and the public and provide a theoretical issue for globally controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Parental burnout (PB), a relatively new and under-studied construct, is defined as a condition resulting from chronic parenting stress. While recent research confirmed its negative associations with familial variables, such as relationship satisfaction and positive parenting practices, little is known about the role of intimate partner violence (IPV) and how it relates to parental burnout. The present study, therefore, aimed to extend existing knowledge on chronic parenting stress by 1) testing for the mediational role of couple dissatisfaction in explaining the link from IPV victimization to PB as well as the link from IPV victimization to dysfunctional parenting, and 2) investigating how specialist gender roles and parental responsibilities for child care relate to IPV victimization and PB. Data collection was part of an international collaboration on factors related to parental satisfaction and exhaustion across different countries. Self-report data from Austrian mothers (N = 121) were collected online and analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results indicated that couple dissatisfaction mediates the link from IPV victimization to PB, as well as IPV victimization to dysfunctional parenting. Furthermore, only specialist gender roles were significantly related to IPV, while parental responsibilities for child care did not significantly relate to experiences of violence. Additionally, neither specialist gender roles nor parental responsibilities were significantly associated with PB in the final model. In the last two decades, researchers have increasingly focused on the rich microorganism-based diversity of natural hot spring sources to explore the benefits of thermophiles in industrial and biotechnological fields. Within the scope of this study, a total of 83 thermophilic Bacilli strains were isolated from 7 different geothermal hot springs (at temperatures ranging between 40 and 85 °C) located in the Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Regions of Turkey. The physiological, morphological, biochemical and molecular properties of the isolates were determined. As a result of the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, 5 different species (Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus sp., Bacillus subtilis, Geobacillus kaustophilus, and Weizmannia coagulans,) were identified. B. licheniformis and B. subtilis were the most frequently encountered species among those obtained from the researched hot spring sources. Phylogenetic analysis was conducted to evaluate the phylogenetic relationships of the isolated species. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the groups and the bacteria in terms of the locations or optimum temperatures of the isolates. The bacterial isolates were screened for amylase, cellulase, lipase and protease hydrolytic enzyme activities. The hydrolytic enzyme production potentials among the isolates were identified in 68 (82%) isolates for amylase, 34 (41%) for cellulase, 69 (83%) for lipase and 73 (88%) for protease. All isolates were found to have at least one or more extracellular enzyme activities. Additionally, it was determined that 27 of the existing isolates (32.8%) were able to produce all of the aforementioned hydrolytic enzymes. Objectives Behavioral safety programs have been effective in decreasing injuries across a number of industries. The COVID-19 pandemic is placing stress on the human services field—an industry already noted for its high injury rate. As most organizations resume full operation in the midst of the pandemic, procedures to mitigate the risk of virus transmission are vital. The current manuscript describes the use of a behavioral safety program and its effects on COVID-19 transmission in a school serving setting. Methods This case study consisted of implementing an organization-wide behavioral safety program in a private school that served students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. During the course of the study, 124 to 128 direct care staff were employed by the school and served 168 students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results During the behavioral safety program, there were a variable but continuous number of safety observations. The percent of safe behavior in the classrooms began near 90% and approached 100% at the conclusion of data collection. During the study there were no documented COVID-19 infections traced to the school. Conclusions Behavioral safety programs could be effective in promoting behavior associated with minimizing virus transmission; therefore, these programs may also have utility in preventing communicable diseases in human service settings.

Research suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on those already living with mental health problems, though there is also evidence of resilience. However, to date there has been limited in-depth qualitative investigation. We interviewed 15 people living with long-term mental health problems who, before the pandemic, were being supported by third sector organisations, to explore how they experienced lockdowns and accessing services remotely. Template analysis was informed by the Power Threat Meaning Framework and suggested that participants experienced significant threats to their mental wellbeing and recovery which were exacerbated by current or previous powerlessness and inequality. Although participants described positive coping strategies, several described a return of unhelpful behaviours that had contributed to the original difficulties. The findings illustrate the wider contributions of social and economic context to mental health problems and the importance of ensuring that people do not feel abandoned and are proactively supported.

First of all, we study the existence and uniqueness of the global positive solution of the model. Then, we establish a threshold \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$\lambda $$\end{document}λ by investigating the one-dimensional model to determine the extinction and persistence of the disease. To verify the model has an ergodic stationary distribution, we adopt a new method which can obtain the sufficient and almost necessary conditions for the extinction and persistence of the disease. Finally, some numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate our theoretical results.

Purpose The substantial and unexpected increase in “deaths of despair” in the US (e.g., deaths from drug overdose, suicide, and alcohol-related liver diseases) reported by economists Case and Deaton in 2015 raises questions about the number and characteristics of US adults potentially living “lives of despair” with these problems. Methods We used data from the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions Wave III (NESARC-III) to examine population estimates and characteristics of adults with lifetime history of substance use disorder (SUD) and suicide attempt, or either condition alone, as compared to those with neither. Results An estimated 7.2 million adults had both lifetime SUD and suicide attempt and 78.8 million had either. Those with both faced far more psychosocial adversities, familial adverse experiences and psychiatric disorders compared to those with the other two groups, and reported greater mental health service utilization. Multivariable analysis showed that psychiatric multimorbidity and violence were the strongest correlates of having both conditions as compared to neither while those with either condition fell in between. Conclusion A substantial number of US adults live with a lifetime SUD and suicide attempt with a multiplicity of additional socioeconomic, psychiatric and familial problems. While their utilization of mental health care service exceeds those with either or neither conditions, quality of life remained much poorer, suggesting that mental health treatment alone may not be enough to mitigate their sufferings, and a combination of both social policy support and quality mental health care may be needed.

System enactments are co-created phenomena characterized by confounding and emotionally charged multi-person interactions that emerge through the convergence of patients' complex psychopathology, staff vulnerabilities, and the organizational dynamics of the clinical system in which all are embedded. There is ample literature about the psychoanalytic construct of enactment in the therapeutic dyad. Though systems-based clinicians often experience system enactments which transcend the dyad and occur within the projective field of the system, there is no comparable literature that discusses this phenomenon. This paper describes a qualitative study that investigated how psychodynamic clinicians understood the phenomenology and impact of system enactments on clinicians, treatment processes and organizational climate. Major themes were identified through qualitative analysis of the data. The following four key findings were distilled from the resulting themes of the study's two research questions: (1) Clinicians conceptualize system enactments from a classical perspective; (2) System enactments have an experiential impact on clinicians in the domains of affect, cognition, behavior, and physiological arousal, which may be related to secondary traumatic stress responses; (3) Clinicians demonstrate a collapse of mentalizing associated with ruptures in the patient's treatment, conflict in the working relationships between staff, and problematic organizational dynamics; and (4) Interconnected and reciprocal interactions among all levels of the system including patient subsystem, individual staff subsystem, intra-staff subsystem and organizational subsystem, are shaped by the impact of system enactments. A conceptual understanding of system enactmentis outlined, and implications for clinical social work education and practice, organizational policy-making and research are addressed.

This study aims to examine the relationship between the levels of hopelessness, loneliness, and spiritual well-being of patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes during the process of COVID-19 outbreak. The study was carried out with diabetic patients living in three different cities that are in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey between the dates of 15 of November and 30 of November 2020. The sample of the study consisted of 500 (Type 1, n = 218, Type 2, n = 282) diabetes patients. Data were collected using a demographic information form, Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS), and Spiritual Well-being Scale (FACIT–Sp). While the mean scores of hopelessness and loneliness of type 1 patients were below the moderate level, the mean scores of their spiritual well-being were found to be above the moderate level. Moreover, while the mean scores of hopelessness and loneliness in type 2 patients were below the moderate level, the mean scores of their spiritual well-being were found above the moderate level. A significant relationship was found between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients' levels of hopelessness, loneliness, and spiritual well-being during the COVID-19 outbreak. It was found that as the spiritual well-being levels of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients increased, the levels of their loneliness and hopelessness decreased. It is recommended that mass communication that includes spiritual care practices can be used effectively to reduce diabetes patients’ levels of loneliness and hopelessness during the pandemic. In addition, while providing care to diabetes patients, it can be suggested that health professionals offer a holistic approach with initiatives that will increase diabetes patients’ spiritual well-being. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature. Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) have been integrating technology into psychotherapy practice for at least two decades, but the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically shifted the primary method of service delivery for diagnostic assessment and therapy to telebehavioral health. By developing telebehavioral health competencies, the 250,000 + LCSWs in the US can ensure and enhance the quality of care both during and after the COVID public health emergency (PHE). This article applies an evidence- and consensus-based, interprofessional telebehavioral health (TBH) competency framework to the field of social work. This framework was developed by the Coalition for Technology in Behavioral Science (CTiBS), initially published in 2017. It has seven competency domains: (1) clinical evaluation and care; (2) virtual environment and telepresence; (3) technology; (4) legal and regulatory issues; (5) evidence-based and ethical practice (comprised of Standards and Guidelines and Social Media); (6) mobile health and apps; and (7) telepractice development. The framework outlines three competency levels (novice, proficient, and authority) covering 49 specific objectives and 146 measurable competencies or practices. The TBH competencies support existing in-person clinical practices and are intended for trainees and practitioners who are implementing TBH in practice. This competency framework can also be used to integrate clinical social work professional development, research, and training. Additionally, considerations for other behavioral health professions regarding licensure, certification, and policy may apply to clinical social work. Future research is needed on implementation and evaluation of the competencies.

Purpose Suicide among hospitality workers has recently attracted attention in the media. To date, little is known about suicide among hospitality workers in Australia. Methods Suicide data were obtained from the National Coronial Information System (NCIS). Occupational suicide rates were calculated using the Australian Bureau of Statistics population-level data from the 2011 census. Negative binomial regression, univariate logistic regression, and multivariate logistic regression were used to estimate the association between suicide and employment as a hospitality worker over the period 2006–2017, compared to all other occupations. A randomized feasibility trial of a parent coaching (PC) intervention was conducted across 16 community agencies in a Canadian province. Parents of toddlers with suspected autism were assigned to either a PC group (n = 24) or an enhanced community treatment (ECT) group (n = 25). PC participants received 24 weeks of coaching support from community service providers trained in the project. Children in both groups also received available community services and supplementary materials. PC children made significantly greater gains in word understanding and PC parents had significantly higher quality of life, satisfaction, and self-efficacy scores. Results are discussed in terms of the challenges of conducting feasibility studies in community settings and the lessons learned in the project. Graphical abstract Transforming growth factor β-induced protein (TGFBIp), as an extracellular matrix protein, is expressed TGF-β in some types of cells. Experimental sepsis is mediated by expressed and released TGFBIp in primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Cornuside (CNS) is a bisiridoid glucoside compound found in the fruit of Cornus officinalis SIEB. et ZUCC. Based on the known functions of CNS, such as the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activities, we tested whether TGFBIp-mediated septic responses were suppressed by CNS in human endothelial cells and mice and investigated the underlying anti-septic mechanisms of CNS. Data showed that the secretion of TGFBIp by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and severe septic responses by TGFBIp were effectively inhibited by CNS. And, TGFBIp-mediated sepsis lethality and pulmonary injury were reduced by CNS. Therefore, the suppression of TGFBIp-mediated septic responses by CNS suggested that CNS may be used as a potential therapeutic agent for several vascular inflammatory diseases, with the inhibition of the TGFBIp signaling pathway as the mechanism of action.

This article reports on a pilot study of a parent-only cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) programme for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and anxiety difficulties. Twenty-one parents of anxious children with ASD (5-11 of age) completed the From Timid to Tiger intervention. Parent outcome measures were assessed at post-intervention and at 3-month follow-up. Analysis indicated significant reductions in both parent and clinician reports of child anxiety symptoms. Specifically, 38% of children were free of their primary diagnosis at treatment end and this increased to 57% when measured at 3-month follow-up. Positive gains were evidenced regarding parents' ability to manage their child's anxiety without accommodating to it. The results provide preliminary evidence of parent-only CBT programs for children with ASD.

In the U.S., overdoses have become a health crisis in both public and private places. We describe the impact of the overdose crisis in public libraries across five U.S. states, and the front-line response of public library workers. We conducted a cross-sectional survey, inviting one worker to respond at each public library in five randomly selected states (CO, CT, FL, MI, and VA), querying participants regarding substance use and overdose in their communities and institutions, and their preparedness to respond. We describe substance use and overdose patterns, as well as correlates of naloxone uptake, in public libraries. Participating library staff (N = 356) reported witnessing alcohol use (45%) and injection drug use (14%) in their libraries in the previous month. Across states surveyed, 12% of respondents reported at least one on-site overdose in the prior year, ranging from a low of 10% in MI to a high of 17% in FL. There was wide variation across states in naloxone uptake at libraries, ranging from 0% of represented libraries in FL to 33% in CO. Prior on-site overdose was associated with higher odds of naloxone uptake by the library (OR 2.5, 95% CI 1.1-5.7). Although 24% of respondents had attended a training regarding substance use in the prior year, over 90% of respondents wanted to receive additional training on the topic. Public health professionals should partner with public libraries to expand and strengthen substance use outreach and overdose prevention efforts.

Test with the sea urchin Echinometra lucunter, to evaluate embryonic development and contamination by the action of silver and titanium nanoparticles in polyethylene nanocomposite films presents new results. The silver nanoparticle’s stability in polymeric materials can be enhanced by adding carriers, such as titanium dioxide and montmorillonite clay (MMT) without to producing one unfriendly material. For this research, low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) were used processed in a twin-screw extruder, followed by gamma irradiation with 25 kGy and characterized by ecotoxicology assays, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM–EDX), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and mechanical properties. The antibacterial properties of the LDPE films were investigated against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The gamma irradiation had an important effect in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles resulting in bactericidal activity and the death of 100% of the tested bacteria. The evaluation of the environment was considered with the ecotoxicological investigation carried out. The results indicated that the polymeric films with silver nanoparticles and TiO2 do not contaminate the environment and neither interfere with the larval development of Echinometra lucunter. The obtained materials can be used in various applications with antimicrobial properties.

Humanitarian social enterprises (HSEs) are facing mounting pressure to incorporate social innovation into their practice. This study thus identifies how HSEs leverage organizational capabilities toward developing social innovation. Specifically, it considers how resource scarcity and operating circumstances affect the capabilities used by HSEs for developing social innovation, using a longitudinal case study approach with qualitative data from 12 hunger-relief HSEs operating in the United States. Based on 59 interviews with 31 managers and directors and related documents, several propositions are posited. The findings suggest that resource availability (i.e., scarcity vs. abundance) leads some HSEs to focus on developing social innovation using their collaborative capabilities, while others leverage their absorptive capacity. Further, HSEs adjust their approach to developing social innovation based on whether they are operating in ordinary circumstances (i.e., before the COVID pandemic) or extraordinary ones (i.e., during the COVID pandemic). Interestingly, the findings suggest that the organizational capabilities used by HSEs are adjusted as these enterprises become more familiar with extraordinary operating circumstances. For example, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, resource-scarce HSEs focused on parallel bricolage to develop social innovation. Subsequently, they focused on selective bricolage. The findings offer novel insights by relating the social innovation of social enterprises to crisis management. The COVID-19 pandemic shows to have a huge impact on people's health and countries' infrastructures around the globe. Iran was one of the first countries that experienced the vast prevalence of the coronavirus outbreak. The Iranian authorities applied various non-pharmaceutical interventions to eradicate the epidemic in different periods. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions in managing the current Coronavirus pandemic and to predict the next wave of infection in Iran. To achieve the research objective, the number of cases and deaths before and after the interventions was studied and the effective reproduction number of the infection was analyzed under various scenarios. The SEIR generic model was applied to capture the dynamic of the pandemic in Iran. To capture the effects of different interventions, the corresponding reproduction number was considered. Depending on how people are responsive to interventions, the effectiveness of each intervention has been investigated. Results show that the maximum number of the total of infected individuals will occur around the end of May and the start of June 2021. It is concluded that the outbreak could be smoothed if full lockdown and strict quarantine continue. The proposed modeling could be used as an assessment tool to evaluate the effects of different interventions in new outbreaks.

We evaluated and compared the mammographic density assessment of an artificial intelligence-based computer-assisted diagnosis (AI-CAD) program using inter-rater agreements between radiologists and an automated density assessment program. Between March and May 2020, 488 consecutive mammograms of 488 patients (56.2 ± 10.9 years) were collected from a single institution. We assigned four classes of mammographic density based on BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) using commercial AI-CAD (Lunit INSIGHT MMG), and compared inter-rater agreements between radiologists, AI-CAD, and another commercial automated density assessment program (Volpara®). The inter-rater agreement between AI-CAD and the reader consensus was 0.52 with a matched rate of 68.2% (333/488). The inter-rater agreement between Volpara® and the reader consensus was similar to AI-CAD at 0.50 with a matched rate of 62.7% (306/488). The inter-rater agreement between AI-CAD and Volpara® was 0.54 with a matched rate of 61.5% (300/488). In conclusion, density assessments by AI-CAD showed fair agreement with those of radiologists, similar to the agreement between the commercial automated density assessment program and radiologists. The increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere from human activities traps heat within the climate system and increases ocean heat content (OHC). Here, we provide the first analysis of recent OHC changes through 2021 from two international groups. The world ocean, in 2021, was the hottest ever recorded by humans, and the 2021 annual OHC value is even higher than last year’s record value by 14 ± 11 ZJ (1 zetta J = 1021 J) using the IAP/CAS dataset and by 16 ± 10 ZJ using NCEI/NOAA dataset. The long-term ocean warming is larger in the Atlantic and Southern Oceans than in other regions and is mainly attributed, via climate model simulations, to an increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations. The year-to-year variation of OHC is primarily tied to the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). In the seven maritime domains of the Indian, Tropical Atlantic, North Atlantic, Northwest Pacific, North Pacific, Southern oceans, and the Mediterranean Sea, robust warming is observed but with distinct inter-annual to decadal variability. Four out of seven domains showed record-high heat content in 2021. The anomalous global and regional ocean warming established in this study should be incorporated into climate risk assessments, adaptation, and mitigation.

Despite the tremendous development of various brain-related resources, a large, systematic, comprehensive, extendable, and beautiful repository of 3D reconstructed images of a living human brain expanded to the head and neck is not yet available. I have created such a novel repository and populated it with images derived from a 3D atlas constructed from 3/7 Tesla MRI and high-resolution CT scans. This web-based repository contains 6 galleries hierarchically organized in 444 albums and sub-albums with 5,156 images. Its original features include a systematic design in terms of multiple standard views, modes of presentation, and spatially co-registered image sequences; multi-tissue class galleries constructed from 26 primary tissue classes and 199 sub-classes; and a unique image naming syntax enabling image searching based solely on the image name. Anatomic structures are displayed in 6 standard views (anterior, left, posterior, right, superior, inferior), all views having the same brain size, and optionally with additional arbitrary views. In each view, the images are shown as sequences in three standard modes of presentation, non-parcellated unlabeled, parcellated unlabeled, and parcellated labeled. There are two types of spatially co-registered image sequences (imitating image layers and enabling animation creation), the appearance image sequence (for standard views) and the context image sequence (with a growing number of tissue classes). Color-coded neuroanatomic content makes the brain beautiful and facilitates its learning and understanding. This unique repository is freely available and easily accessible online at www.nowinbrain.org for a wide spectrum of users in medicine and beyond. Its future extensions are in progress. The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic in 2019 has led to a global health crisis. Mutations of the SARS-CoV-2 genome have impeded the development of effective therapeutics and vaccines against SARS-CoV-2. Natural products are important for discovering therapeutics to treat the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In the present study, we investigated the antiviral activity of herbal drug extracts from Polygala Root, Areca, and Quercus Bark and natural compounds derived from herbal drug such as baicalin and glabridin, with IC50 values of 9.5 µg/ml, 1.2 µg/ml, 5.4 µg/ml, 8.8 µM, and 2.5 µM, respectively, against SARS CoV-2 infection in vitro. Certain herbal drug extracts and natural compounds were found to inhibit viral RNA levels and infectious titers of SARS-CoV-2 in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, viral protein analyses showed that herbal drug extracts and natural compounds effectively inhibited SARS-CoV-2 in the various entry treatments. Our study revealed that three herbal drugs are good candidates for further in vivo and clinical studies. Clinically, Taylor spatial frame (TSF) is usually used to correct femoral deformity. The first step in correction is to analyze skeletal deformities and measure the center of rotation of angulation (CORA). Since the above work needs to be done manually, the doctor’s workload is heavy. Therefore, an automatic femoral deformity analysis system was proposed. Firstly, the Hough forest and constrained local models were trained on the femur image set. Then, the position and size of the femur in the X-ray image were detected by the trained Hough forest. Furthermore, the position and size were served as the initial values of the trained constrained local models to fit the femoral contour. Finally, the anatomical axis line of the proximal femur and the anatomical axis line of the distal femur could be drawn according to the fitting results. According to these lines, CORA can be found. Compared with manual measurement by doctors, the average error of the hip joint orientation line was 1.7°, the standard deviation was 1.75, the average error of the anatomic axis line of the proximal femur was 2.9°, and the standard deviation was 3.57. The automatic femoral deformity analysis system meets the accuracy requirements of orthopedics and can significantly reduce the workload of doctors.

Immigrants are a special group in society, and their health is of great concern. Few studies have targeted this population in China. A cross-sectional descriptive correlational study was conducted from July to August 2018 in Hubei Province, China. Chi-square tests, Z-tests and multivariable linear regression analysis were performed to analyze the data using SPSS 24.0. A total of 1068 questionnaires were distributed. The results showed that the variables that affected the mental health of the immigrants with chronic diseases included gender, annual income, life events (L), negative emotion (NE), negative coping styles (NC) and objective support (OS) (p ≤ 0.05). Future research should focus on the physical and mental health of different immigrant groups and design effective, individualized interventions to improve the health status of immigrants, especially those with chronic diseases.

Aims In the UK, deaths associated with COVID-19 have occurred in two waves. Evidence has shown an increase in 30-day mortality for hip fracture patients co-infected with COVID-19. However, there are no studies analysing mortality trends between the first two waves of the UK pandemic. Additionally, hospital versus community acquired COVID-19 infection between the two waves has not been analysed. Furthermore, predictive factors of 30-day mortality have not been fully evaluated. Methods Data from two audits conducted by the CHIP collaborative group were used: a published regional audit in England of nine hospitals providing the COVID-19 negative cases and an unpublished UK national audit of 43 hospitals, which provided the COVID-19 positive cases. Data collection for the COVID-19 positive cases was from 23 March to 31 December 2020. September 1, 2020 was used to define the transition between the two waves. Results There were 517 COVID-19 positive hip fracture patients and 1445 COVID-19 negative hip fracture patients. Purpose To evaluate the usefulness of compressive ultrasound (CUS) for the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients with SARS-CoV-2-related infection. Methods 112 hospitalized patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were retrospectively enrolled. CUS was performed within 2 days of admission and consisted in the assessment of the proximal and distal deep venous systems. Lack of compressibility, or direct identification of an endoluminal thrombus, were the criteria used for the diagnosis of DVT. Pulmonary embolism (PE) events were investigated at computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) within 5 days of follow-up. Logistic binary regression was computed to determine which clinical and radiological parameters were independently associated with PE onset. Results Overall, the incidence of DVT in our cohort was about 43%. The most common district involved was the left lower limb (68.7%) in comparison with the right one (58.3%) while the upper limbs were less frequently involved (4.2% the right one and 2.1% the left one, respectively). On both sides, the distal tract of the popliteal vein was the most common involved (50% right side and 45.8% left side). The presence of DVT in the distal tract of the right popliteal vein (OR = 2.444 95%CIs 1.084–16.624, p = 0.038), in the distal tract of the left popliteal vein (OR = 4.201 95%CIs 1.484–11.885, p = 0.007), and D-dimer values (OR = 2.122 95%CIs 1.030–5.495, p = 0.003) were independently associated with the onset on PE within 5 days. Conclusions CUS should be considered a useful tool to discriminate which category of patients can develop PE within 5 days from admission.

In response to the growing importance of environmental issues, more and more consumers are turning to anti-consumption by reducing, rejecting, or avoiding consumption. Covering the intersection of sustainable consumption and anti-consumption, previous studies relied on socio-cognitive models to explain this decision. In order to extend their findings, we consider the moral and emotional perspectives to examine reducing consumption for environmental reasons in a particular context, i.e. air travel. It is against this backdrop that we propose a conceptual model that includes moral foundations as the main antecedent, followed by anticipated guilt and personal responsibility, while intention to reduce consumption (i.e. air travel) for environmental reasons, positive word of mouth about reducing air travel (WOM) and environmental activism represent the outcomes. The proposed model is tested on a sample of 511 respondents from a UK online consumer panel. Our results confirm the importance of moral foundations, anticipated guilt and personal responsibility and their interplay in the prediction of intention to reduce consumption for environmental reasons. Anticipated guilt influences WOM, while personal responsibility influences activism. In addition, intentions to reduce consumption for environmental reasons have a positive impact on WOM and environmental activism. There are several implications for public policy makers and NGOs that fight against climate change that derive from these findings, as well as research opportunities for academics interested in this topic.

This paper presents a time-series analysis of SO2 air concentration and the effects of particulates (either PM2.5 and PM10) concentrations and meteorological conditions (relative humidity and wind speed) on SO2 trend in Tehran for the period from 2011 to 2020. The source data were obtained from 21 monitoring stations of Air Quality Control Company and meteorological stations in Tehran. To predict the status of future concentration of SO2, PM2.5 and PM10, a Box–Jenkins ARIMA approach was used to model the monthly time series. Considering the whole period of ten years, a somewhat downward trend was noted for SO2 air concentration, even though a slight rising trend was observed in 2020 year. Monthly sulfur dioxide concentrations showed the lowest value in June and the highest value in January. Seasonal concentrations were lowest in spring and highest in winter. Then, in the ArcGIS software, the IDW method was used to obtain air pollution zoning maps. As a result, the highest average concentration of SO2 occurred in the north and southwest of Tehran. In the last step, Relations between the SO2 concentration and particulate matters and relative humidity and wind speed were calculated statistically using the daily average data. We finally concluded that the combined effect of particulate matters and relative humidity with the increasing role of Sulfur dioxide overcomes the decreasing role of wind speed. This study can contribute to a better understanding of the SO2 air pollution in Tehran affected by meteorological conditions and the rapid urbanization and industrialization, followed by the possible combustion of fuel oil in power plants and health problems.

This study examined Assemblies of God pastors in the USA (n = 874) on role identity, well-being, religious coping, and attitudes toward seeking professional counseling. Overall, 14.1% had depression at moderate or higher severity based on the PHQ-9 scale (score of 10 or above), with an additional 25.7% in the mild category (score of 5-9). On the Clergy Spiritual Well-Being scale, 9.2% had poor spiritual well-being in everyday life, while 18.1% showed poor spiritual well-being in ministry (score below 15 on each respective subscale). About 20% of the sample scored in the high range (above 10) on the Clergy Occupational Distress Index. Male role norms, occupational distress, and positive religious coping were predictive of help-seeking attitudes. Those who were married, younger, more highly educated, female, or had more close friends had more positive attitudes toward seeking counseling.

U.S. HIV incidence is threefold higher among Latino individuals than non-Latino Whites. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake remains low among Latino men. Most HIV studies view Latino communities as a monolithic group, ignoring racial and sexual diversity. This analysis examines PrEP-related outcomes including eligibility, first prescription, and second prescription across race and sexual identity in a sample of Latino cisgender men (n = 8271) who sought services from a healthcare network in Chicago in 2012-2019. Logistic regression was used to calculate adjusted odds ratios. Latino-only participants had lower odds of PrEP eligibility and first prescription compared to White-Latino participants. No other significant differences by race were detected. While bisexual participants had equivalent odds of PrEP eligibility, they had lower odds of first PrEP prescription compared to gay participants. Heterosexual participants also had lower odds of PrEP eligibility and initiation. Future research should address unique factors shaping PrEP-related outcomes among diverse Latino populations.La incidencia del VIH en los EEUU és 3 veces mayor entre las personas latinos que entre los blancos no latinos. La iniciación de la profilaxis previa a la exposición (PrEP) sigue siendo baja entre los hombres latinos. La mayoría de los estudios sobre el VIH ven a las comunidades latinos como un grupo monolítico, ignorando la diversidad racial y sexual. Este análisis examina los resultados relacionados con la PrEP, incluida la elegibilidad, la primera prescripción y la segunda prescripción según la raza y la identidad sexual en una muestra de hombres latinos cisgénero (n = 8.271) que buscaron servicios de una gran red de servicios de salud en Chicago 2012–2019. Se utilizó la regresión logística para calcular las razones de momios ajustadas. Diabetic retinopathy is a chronic condition that causes vision loss if not detected early. In the early stage, it can be diagnosed with the aid of exudates which are called lesions. However, it is arduous to detect the exudate lesion due to the availability of blood vessels and other distractions. To tackle these issues, we proposed a novel exudates classification from the fundus image known as hybrid convolutional neural network (CNN)-based binary local search optimizer–based particle swarm optimization algorithm. The proposed method from this paper exploits image augmentation to enlarge the fundus image to the required size without losing any features. The features from the resized fundus images are extracted as a feature vector and fed into the feed-forward CNN as the input. Henceforth, it classifies the exudates from the fundus image. Further, the hyperparameters are optimized to reduce the computational complexities by utilization of binary local search optimizer (BLSO) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). The experimental analysis is conducted on the public ROC and real-time ARA400 datasets and compared with the state-of-art works such as support vector machine classifiers, multi-modal/multi-scale, random forest, and CNN for the performance metrics. The classification accuracy is high for the proposed work, and thus, our proposed outperforms all the other approaches.

Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of diseases primarily involving chronic inflammation of the spine and peripheral joints, as evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Considering the complexity of SpA, we performed a retrospective study to discover quantitative/radiomic MRI-based features correlated with SpA. We also investigated different fat-suppression MRI techniques to develop detection models for inflammatory sacroiliitis. Finally, these model results were compared with those of experienced musculoskeletal radiologists, and the concordance level was evaluated. Examinations of 46 consecutive patients were obtained using SPAIR (spectral attenuated inversion recovery) and STIR (short tau inversion recovery) MRI sequences. Musculoskeletal radiologists manually segmented the sacroiliac joints for further extraction of 230 MRI features from gray-level histogram/matrices and wavelet filters. These features were associated with sacroiliitis, SpA, and the current biomarkers of ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CRP (C-reactive protein), BASDAI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Activity Index), BASFI (Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index), and MASES (Maastricht Ankylosing Spondylitis Enthesis Score). This study examined the association between spiritual quality of life (QoL), spiritual coping, emotional distress, and personality during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in a convenience sample of Croatian adults (n = 2, 860, 80.6% women). Participants completed an online questionnaire that collected information on sociodemographic characteristics, distress (the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale 21), spiritual coping and spiritual QoL (the WHO Quality of Life- Spirituality, Religiousness, and Personal Beliefs), and personality (the International Personality Item Pool). The hierarchical regression analysis demonstrated that personality traits, especially emotional stability, were the most significant predictors of mental health outcomes. Spiritual coping styles were a predictor of worse, while spiritual QoL of better psychological outcomes. Results demonstrate the complex relations between different aspects of spirituality/religiosity with personality and emotional outcomes and suggest that distress motivates the engagement of spiritual coping in times of disaster.

Background Sequelae of COVID-19 can be severe and longlasting. We compared frequencies of fatigue, depression and cognitive dysfunction in survivors of SARS-CoV-2-infection and sepsis. Methods We performed a prospective cohort study of 355 symptomatic post-COVID patients who visited our out-patient clinic for post-COVID-19 care. We compared them with 272 symptomatic patients from the Mid-German Sepsis Cohort, which investigates the long-term courses of sepsis survivors. Possible predictors for frequent clinical findings (fatigue, signs of depression, cognitive dysfunction) in post-COVID were investigated with multivariable logistic regression. Results Median age of the post-COVID patients was 51 years (range 17–86), 60.0% were female, and 31.8% required hospitalization during acute COVID-19. In the post-COVID patients (median follow-up time: 163 days) and the post-sepsis patients (180 days), fatigue was found in 93.2% and 67.8%, signs of depression were found in 81.3% and 10.9%, and cognitive dysfunction was found in 23.5% and 21.3%, respectively. In post-COVID, we did not observe an association between fatigue or depression and the severity of acute COVID-19. In contrast, cognitive dysfunction was associated with hospitalization (out-patient versus in-patient) and more frequent in post-COVID patients treated on an ICU compared to the MSC patients. Conclusion In post-COVID patients, fatigue and signs of depression are more common than in sepsis survivors, independent from the acute SARS-CoV-2-infection. In contrast, cognitive dysfunction is associated with hospitalization. Despite the differences in frequencies, owing to the similarity of post-COVID and post-sepsis sequelae, this knowledge may help in implementing follow-up approaches after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Cosmopolitans, statists and liberal nationalists disagree over the relevance of regulating substantive inequalities at the global level. This paper aims to resolve the dispute among these three schools of thought. I show firstly that cosmopolitans, statists, and liberal nationalists all aim to motivate people to give in support of distributive justice at the global level. However, cosmopolitans lack a substantive theory of how to develop sufficient motivation to give globally. Secondly, the statists’ account of the motivation to give is deficient because it fails to recognise the motivational force of a common national identity among people. Thirdly, Miller’s account is more plausible than the statists’ but fails to facilitate a dynamic process whereby people’s national identities could be extended to the global level in order to support the cosmopolitan project. This needs to be supplemented by the statists’ understanding of democratic process—one which incorporates the principles of Habermas’s communicative action as a mechanism for developing social solidarity among people. I endorse an account that recognises the motivational force of national identity and the possibility of extending it beyond nation state through democratic participation at the global level.

This study explores the relationship among spirituality, self-efficacy, COVID-19 anxiety, and hopelessness. The participants are comprised of 418 individuals (282 females and 136 males) in Turkey whose ages range between 18 and 61 years old. The participants completed the following surveys: The Coronavirus Anxiety Scale, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Beck Hopelessness Scale, and the Spiritual Orientation Inventory. The relationships among the variables have been examined using path analysis. According to the results, spirituality, self-efficacy, and COVID-19 anxiety have direct effects on hopelessness. The analysis also shows self-efficacy to mediate the relationship between spirituality and hopelessness. The proposed model has good fit indices. The findings are discussed in the context of the literature on COVID-19, spirituality, self-efficacy, and hopelessness, with practical implications for mental health professionals being provided.

Background Parent–child interactions are crucial for child development. The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively affected mental health and increased parenting challenges impacting parent–child functioning. Objective This study examined parent factors related to more and less enriching child activities during the pandemic through Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems framework. Methods A convenience sample of parents (N = 708), primarily mothers (n = 610; 87.4%) aged 35.59 years old (SD = 5.59; range = 21–72), with children ages 2–8 years completed an online questionnaire between April 14-June 1, 2020. Participants mostly resided in Canada, had an income of > $100,000, and identified as White (82.4%). Parent–child activities were measured as total weekly time and combined time across activities within two categories: hands-on play and screen time. Bivariate correlations informed blockwise linear regression models. Results For families with childcare needs, parental anxiety was associated with higher total hands-on play, combined hands-on play, and combined screen time. Families without childcare needs indicated parenting stress was associated with lower total hands-on play and combined hands-on play, and higher supervised screen time. Family structure and indices of socioeconomic status were also predictive of activities across childcare needs and child ages. Conclusions To promote high-quality parent–child interactions and positive developmental outcomes during the pandemic, childcare needs and parent wellbeing should be supported, while evidence-based guidelines for child screen time should be further researched in this context.

Schools are the most common venue in which children and youth receive mental health services. To organize delivery of mental health care to such a large number of children, use of school teams is often recommended. Yet, there is limited empirical literature about the composition of school mental health teams or teams’ relations to service provision. This study investigated team composition, including team multidisciplinarity (number of different types of professionals) and the presence of a community provider, and the relations of these two variables to service provision at Tier 1 (mental health promotion), Tier 2 (early intervention) and Tier 3 (intensive treatment) for 386 schools representing different school sizes, locations, and urbanicity. Results suggested team multidisciplinarity and the presence of a community provider were related to more frequent endorsement of service provision at schools. Practice and research implications are discussed including possible application to hiring decisions and further research with longitudinal data and information on service quality. Circular economy (CE) literature discusses the need for cooperation between different stakeholders to promote a CE; there is also an assumption regarding the benefits of loop closing on a local or regional scale. However, the potentially conflicting priorities, understandings, and expectations of the stakeholders involved have not been sufficiently addressed. Regional (or local) authorities have a responsibility to promote prosperity for stakeholders in their administrative region, within the constraints of national policy; conversely companies can have financial imperatives associated with stakeholders who may be globally distributed. Evidence of these conflicting priorities, the various positions stakeholder take, and their expectations of each other can be seen in the language choices regional actors make in their public-facing policy and report documents. The aim of the paper is to consider the challenges for creating a regional-scale CE that might arise from the differing priorities and values of companies and public agencies relating to specific places. It uses discourse analysis (including critical approaches) to examine how policy and business documents represent the stakeholders of the CE, their place in it, their priorities, and, importantly, the relationship between CE actors, focusing on the case of North Humberside on the North East coast of England. The plans set out in these reports are designed for external stakeholders and allow us to gain an insight into company and policy thinking in relation to CE developments in the coming years, including how they view each other’s roles. Findings indicate a shared motivation across scales and sectors for the CE as a means towards sustainable growth within which business plays a central role. However, there is a critical double disjuncture between different visions for implementation. First, between policy scales, a regional-scale CE is prioritised by regional policymakers, who have an interest in economic advantage being tied to a specific place and call for national scale support for their actions. Second, between regional policymakers and business, companies focus on their own internal operations and potential supply chain collaborations, with little attention given to the regional scale. This can be seen in the way organisations represent the actors of a nascent CE differently. In addition, a hegemonic business-focused growth discourse excludes other visions of the CE; the public are relegated to a passive role primarily as consumers and recipients of under-specified “opportunities” of wealth creation. CE theorisations need to incorporate and address these critical perspectives in order to support the development of strategies to overcome them.
