Abstract

Recently, the application of restorative materials containing metacrilate monomers in the conservative and paediatric dentistry has focused on the possible negative effects due to the use of these composites. In particular the release of monomers from reconstructions as a result of an insufficient polymerisation, can spread along the mucosal and dental tissues with potential immunological ed cytotoxic effects. Regarding to the importance of this issue, the aim of this study is to provide a descriptive review of the literature on potential local and systemic interactions of metacrylic and acrylic monomers with the immune system, both in vitro and in vivo.The most highly used monomers in composite materials applied in conservative dentistry include: 2-hydroessietil- methacrylate (HEMA), triethylene glycol-dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), bisphenol A glycidyl-methacrylate (BisGMA) and urethane- dimethacrylate (UDMA). Different investigations have been performed for better understanding of the potential side effects of metacrylic monomers on immune system cells. Different factors such as cell population, exposure time and parameters more strictly connected to these materials, such as molecular weight, chemical composition and mechanical characteristics, seem to be directly involved in these reactions.

Abstract

The paper describes the development of a semi-automatic gluing machine to be adopted to glue the shoe upper to its sole. The experimental machine consists in a cartesian robot that drives a glue gun and by a vision system that can recognize the sole placed on a worktop allowing the planning of the glue gun trajectory. In this paper it is first described the machine hardware assembly and the developed procedures that allows the object recognition and the robot planning trajectories. Then, there are reported the results of several tests to check to procedure goodness.

Abstract

A new experimental technique is proposed for estimating hot spot size produced by ionizing particles in Josephson tunnel junctions. The proposed approach is capable of examining hot spot dynamics without bias current-induced heating effects. Critical current measurements during alpha-particle irradiation and with trapped Abrikosov vortices permit the identification of critical current change rates.

Abstract

A study was conducted on the influence of intense proton beam irradiation on the properties of Josephson junctions and junction arrays. The Josephson devices were developed using state-of-the-art full-Nb technology, with the thicknesses and materials of common Josephson digital circuit designs. Radiation induced damages on the Josephson junction properties were not observed.

Abstract

Fluxon resonances known as zero-field steps in current-voltage characteristics of long Nb/A1-A1Ox/Nb Josephson junctions made in a window of a stripline is measured with battery-powered current sources for the bias current and magnetic field. Results indicate the appearance of fine structure resonances in fluxon resonant steps and an increase in the effective fluxon propagation velocity. The findings are in agreement with previous measurements.

Abstract

YBCP step-edge junction direct current superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) are fabricated LaAlO3 substrates using the Inverted Cylindrical Magnetron Sputtering method. The SQUIDs are then studied for their Josephson current versus magnetic field and current versus voltage characteristics. Results show that the SQUIDs are capable of operating up to 77 degrees Kelvin without any degradation in their electrical performance.

Abstract

Integration of Josephson tunnel junctions (JTJ) in various configurations, suitable for nuclear detection, is achieved using a fabrication technology and technological problems are absent in the fabrication of particular configuration. Early saturation is resulted for junctions at low temperature. Preliminary measurements on Nb-based JTJ detectors with alpha particle irradiation shows that the phonons generated by the alpha particles in the Si substrate influence detector performances.

Abstract

Trucks operating as mobile operation centers are equipped with cabinet-racks containing equipment sensitive to accelerations that must be preserved from mechanical shocks and vibrations. Therefore, racks on-board vehicles are often isolated to reduce the acceleration and the relative displacement amplitude to avoid impacts with surrounding bodies. Racks inertial characteristics may change over time due to the replacement of the items; therefore, it is desirable to have an adjustable isolation system to guarantee the same isolation efficiency and the correct attitude of the isolated body. In this paper, it is considered an isolation system constituted by air springs whose characteristics can be adjusted through the air pressure; it also includes wire rope stabilizers, to reduce pitch and roll oscillations, and magneto-rheological dampers to compensate the air spring low damping and to provide the ability to control the damping level in real time. After the description of the isolation system, the results of the experimental characterization, conducted on each isolation component, are reported. These results were adopted to evaluate numerically the system isolation efficiency. Finally, the preliminary experimental tests conducted on a rack test rig are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
