Na sequência de um texto anterior sobre os principais contributos teóricos das teorias não-representacionais na geografia, o objetivo deste artigo é discutir as implicações metodológicas desta nova perspetiva teórica, e os métodos que têm sido reinventados para alcançar os seus propósitos. Neste artigo, começarei por apresentar o conceito de pensamento em ação que fundamenta as metodologias não-representacionais. De seguida, apresentarei as principais inovações e experimentações ao nível do método. Concluirei o texto com uma breve discussão, na qual se refere as principais contribuições das teorias não-representacionais para a geografia cultural contemporânea, bem como as principais críticas que se podem apontar aos estudos existentes neste âmbito., Finisterra, vol. 53 n.º 107 (2018)

The objective of this paper is to explore how different artistic practices work to alter the distribution of the senses, and consequently, the disposition, processes and practices of the situated surplus of urban places. While it has been acknowledged that artistic performances in public space generate specific appropriations of the urban environment, the role that specific sensorial channels play in these events is still underexplored. Drawing upon fieldwork conducted between 2012 and 2016 in Chiado, our study highlights how dance, music and architecture stimulate, invoke and highlight specific senses while rendering others unnoticed. This causes shifts in bodily rhythms, mood and attention to details in urban space. As certain corporeal isles are enacted through contemplation, the experience and appropriation of urban space is subject to change. A central tension in this matter is the fluctuation between visual and sonic spatialities.

As teorias não -representacionais são incontornáveis na geografia cultural contemporânea, pelo que se justifica uma revisão crítica dos principais contributos que tem fornecido à disciplina. Com isso em mente, o objetivo deste artigo é abordar o desenvolvimento das teorias não -representacionais na geografia, e providenciar uma leitura crítica do seu impacto na geografia cultural. As teorias não -representacionais podem ser caracterizadas como uma perspetiva teórica que foca os aspectos processuais e dinâmicos do quotidiano – as práticas, as experiências, as performances – procurando ir para além de leituras segmentadas da realidade e da experiência humana. Para atingir o propósito do artigo, abordarei as genealogias teóricas das teorias não -representacionais e os seus principais fundamentos em três partes: (i) subjetividade, afetos, e sensações; (ii) materialismo relacional; e (iii) movimento, tempo, e eventos., Non -representational theories are central in contemporary cultural geographies, and for this reason a critical review of its contributions is pertinent. With that in mind, the objective of this article is to approach the expansion of non -representational theories in geography, and to provide a critical reading of its impact in cultural geography. Non -representational theories may be characterized as a theoretical perspective that focuses on the processual and dynamic aspect of everyday life – practices, experiences, and performances – and that seeks to go beyond segmented analysis of reality and human experience. In order to reach this article’s goal, I will approach the genealogy of non -representational theories and their main concepts in three segments: (i) subjectivity, affect, and sensation; (ii) relational materialism; and (iii) movement, time, and events., La Géographie culturelle contemporaine ne peut ignorer les théories non -représentationnelles. C’est pourquoi on présente ici l’évolution de leur usage en Géographie ainsi qu’une lecture critique de leur influence sur la Géographie culturelle. Ces théories apportent une vision nouvelle sur le processus et la dynamique du quotidien, sur les usages, les expériences et leurs résultats. On essaie ainsi de dépasser une présentation parcellaire de la réalité et des expériences humaines. Pour cela, on présente les généalogies de ces théories et leurs bases principales : 1. la subjectivité, l’affect et les sensations, 2. le matérialisme relationnel, 3. le mouvement, le temps, les événements.

Recently, the phenomenon of social acceleration, which has profound impacts on everyday life, has attracted some attention from social scientists. At the same time, an increased engagement with social practices that are related to slowing down has also been highlighted, thereby unveiling an inherent tension between fast and slow times in contemporary societies. However, little attention has been paid to how fast and slow times are spatially dispersed and rooted.This study contributes to current discussions on the pace of life by considering the dynamics of speeding up and slowing down in the everyday life of residents in a neighborhood of an edge city and the role played by local resources in the performance of everyday life practices. We undertook our study in the Colinas do Cruzeiro neighborhood, in the municipality of Odivelas in the North of Lisbon’s metropolitan area, where we conducted 21 in-depth narrative interviews with residents with the purpose of understanding the spatiotemporal organization of their daily lives and the role of the neighborhood’s resources.Our results identify four different timestyles among the interviewees, all of them fluctuating between fast and slow temporalities in different ways. Thereafter, we identify and describe the main practices of speeding up and slowing down in the interviewees’ everyday life and the local resources, which are mobilized in Colinas do Cruzeiro in order to perform these practices. We give some conclusions after a brief discussion of the results. Our main argument is that local resources play a vital role in an individual’s ability to speed up or slow down and therefore more attention must be paid as to how local resources can become temporal advantages.

In this paper, we will present preliminary results of our ongoing study on the soundscapes of vacant lands in Lisbon Eastern Zone (LEZ). Our methodology comprised two stages. Firstly, all the vacant lands of Lisbon municipality were identified and georeferenced using remote sensing methods and high-resolution aerial photography. In the second stage, a field survey with the purpose of characterising the morphology, vegetation, and animal and human occupation of the vacant lands was conducted, along with field recordings of their soundscapes. The results of our study include the classification of vacant lands and of their soundscapes. We argue that listening to the sounds of urban vacant lands defies traditional notions of the urban soundscape as dominated by anthrophonies.

A literatura atual sobre ritmos urbanos divide-se entre abordagens que procuram quantificar e determinar padrões rítmicos em espaços urbanos e perspetivas qualitativas que procuram qualificar a fluidez rítmica da cidade e observar a ecologia dos ritmos humanos, sociais e urbanos. De modo a aproximar estas duas perspetivas, apresentamos o uso de geoetnografias como meio de combinar uma visão de cima com uma visão a partir do terreno que permite analisar os padrões espácio-temporais sem os reduzir a um estado de stasis. A partir de um estudo realizado entre 2012 e 2016 na área do Chiado, em Lisboa, mostramos como a criação de uma geoetnografia nos permitiu compreender os ritmos urbanos no Chiado em profundidade., Literature on urban rhythms is currently divided between approaches that seek to quantify and determine rhythmic patterns in urban spaces and qualitative perspectives which seek to qualify the rhythmic flows of the city and observe the ecology of human, social and urban rhythms. In order to approach these two perspectives, we present the use of geoethnographies as a means to combine an aerial vision with a terrain vision that allows analyzing spacetime patterns without reducing them to a state of stasis. Based on a study conducted between 2012 and 2016 in Chiado, Lisbon, we show that the creation of a geoethnography allowed us to understand Chiado’s rhythms in depth.

For this we used the data model empirically estimated panel, suggested by Hsiao (1986). The sample covered data from a large financial institution in the country every month in 2015, from January to July to 2,093 business units. The main results suggest that risk and control variables affect significantly the "business", the "default" and the "result of the institution." In this line, should seek to identify new indications of operational risk present in the growth of economic activity and new sources of investment and financing with thirdparty funds (read financial institutions) to businesses. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2014-08-28 The theme The Patrimony of affectation in the construction strategies as a mechanism of effectiveness towards the defense of social fundamental right of housing in the private relations was chosen with the purpose to averiguate, after tem years of its regulation by the law n. 10.931, from August 2nd. of 2004, how relevant is this legal institute in the current real estate scenario as one of the means to promote balance and safeness in the juridical relations contracted by the participants in edifications collectively conceived, object of incidence of the construction strategies. Therefore, despite the continuous juridical and social evolution of the property right, worldwide and in Brazil, this essay takes in consideration its various profiles, in its multiple levels and intensity, until it gets to a close connection with the fundamental right to the housing. In the searching of a way to define the contente for the right to the housing, it is possible to notice that it may take, in some situations, a position related to the right of property, in sort to justify an idea of property connected to the social function and the needs of a decente life. Through this debate placed on the righ of housing and its connection to the social function of the real estate property, this dissertation happens to approach the social and historical scenario of the migratory process from country to city happened in Brazil, that associated to the strong territorial urban expansion, happened tom ade the population want to have new ways, which made appear na alternative way of habitation in conglomerates and turned out to presente a quick dissemination in the Brazilian society, having as a legal structure the combining of distinct properties, perfectly individualized, beside the common properties of parts of edification. And it was by the law of condominium and construction strategies, originally released in 1964, that it was presented a whole normative system for this modern housing category. Being this legislation, at that time, elaborated with the purpose to incentivate solutions for the housing déficit and to reduce conflicts deriving of the activity developed by the real estate developer. Despite this, not even the complex system of the real estate register and fiscalization of the construction strategies activity and the contractual dirigisme applied to the negocial relation were enough to protect the rights of the buyers of future real estate units given the possibility of financial colapse of the real estate developer. By this context, the conclusion is that the normative disciplining of the patrimony of affectation puts, without any doubt, the construction strategies in sync with the current concept of the right to property, emphasizing the relativismo f this right and giving effectiveness to its social function. key-words: Construction strategies. A temática O Patrimônio de Afetação nas incorporações imobiliárias como mecanismo de eficácia à defesa do direito fundamental social à moradia nas relações privadas foi escolhida com o propósito de se averiguar, após dez anos de sua regulamentação pela Lei nº 10.931, de 02 de agosto de 2004, qual a relevância jurídica do instituto do patrimônio de afetação no atual cenário imobiliário como um dos instrumentos fomentadores do equilíbrio e da segurança nas relações jurídicas erigidas entre os participantes de edificações viabilizadas coletivamente, objeto de incidência da atividade de incorporação imobiliária. Para tanto, a despeito da contínua evolução jurídica e social do direito de propriedade, no mundo e no Brasil, este estudo leva em consideração os seus múltiplos perfis, em seus diversos graus e intensidades, até aportar em sua intima conexão com o direito fundamental à moradia. Na busca de definição do conteúdo para o direito à moradia, constata-se que este poderá assumir, em certas oportunidades, posição correlacionada ao direito de propriedade, de modo a justificar uma noção de propriedade conectada com sua função social e com as exigências de uma vida digna. E é nesse debate erigido sobre o direito à moradia e sua afinidade com a função social da propriedade imobiliária que este trabalho acaba enveredando pelo retrato histórico e social do processo migratório campo-cidade ocorrido no Brasil, que associado à forte expansão territorial urbana, fez com que novos caminhos fossem almejados pela população, surgindo então uma modalidade alternativa de habitação em conglomerados, que por sua vez apresentou rápida disseminação na sociedade brasileira, tendo como arcabouço jurídico a justaposição de propriedades distintas, perfeitamente individualizadas, ao lado da propriedade em comum de partes da edificação. E, foi através da Lei de Condomínio e Incorporações, originalmente promulgada em 1964, que se delineou toda uma sistemática normativa para esta categoria habitacional moderna. Sendo esta norma, à época, elaborada com o propósito de incentivar soluções para o déficit habitacional e dirimir conflitos oriundos da atividade desempenhada pelo incorporador. Não obstante, nem mesmo a complexa sistemática de registro cartorário e fiscalização da atividade incorporativa e o dirigismo contratual aplicado à relação negocial foram, por si, suficientes para salvaguardar os direitos dos adquirentes de futuras unidades frente à possibilidade de colapso financeiro do incorporador. Por este contexto, a conclusão é de que o disciplinamento normativo do patrimônio de afetação coloca, sem dúvidas, a incorporação imobiliária em sintonia com o conceito contemporâneo do direito de propriedade, enfatizando a relativização desse direito e dando efetividade à sua função social. Este ensaio pretende rever as relações pós-coloniais presentes na obra O Meu Nome é Legião, de António Lobo Antunes, a partir de uma perspetiva geográfica. A narrativa polifónica de Lobo Antunes permite o sobrepor de diferentes representações sociais e espacialidades, construindo uma imagem complexa da condição pós-colonial lisboeta do Século XXI. Neste romance, é visível como as fronteiras mentais do colonialismo são transpostas para o espaço urbano metropolitano e moldam o mesmo. As relações sociais das personagens oscilam entre a alteridade e o hibridismo em espaços que são simultaneamente fronteira e heterotopia. Começaremos por debater estes quatro conceitos para, de seguida, refletirmos sobre algumas constantes na escrita de Lobo Antunes em relação às temáticas pós-coloniais. Numa segunda fase passar-se-á à análise do texto em si, caracterizando-se as representações sociais e geográficas das várias personagens da obra., This essay intends to review the postcolonial relationships present in António Lobo Antunes’s O Meu Nome é Legião. The polyphonic narrative of this work allows an overlapping of different social representations and spatialities, creating a complex image of the postcolonial condition in 21st century Lisbon. The novel shows how the mental borders of colonialism are transposed into the metropolitan urban space and how they shape it. The social relationships of the characters oscillate between alterity and hybridism in spaces that fluctuate between border and heterotopia. We will begin by discussing these four concepts and then proceed to reflect upon postcolonial aspects that are recurrent in Lobo Antunes’s writings. In the second part of the essay, we will focus on the novel itself, analysing the social and geographical representations of the characters.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of concentrate supplementation by dairy farmers from Alvinópolis, Minas Gerais State. The study included 30 dairy farmers from a total of 256 associates of the Cooperativa de Produtores Rurais de Alvinópolis . Data set was obtained by using a structured questionnaire and a data bank of the Cooperative. Most herds were formed by crossbred cows (European x Zebu). Herds were formed in average by 39 cows, where 71.8% were lactating. Average daily milk production was 9.8 kg/cow. A larger proportion of farmers used formed pasture, with approximately 50% of natural and formed pasture together. Brachiaria sp. predominates among the grasses implemented that represented 47.7% of the pasture. Other grasses represented 1.8% of the total pasture formed. The average size of the farms was 47.6 ha, where 39.8 ha and 7.8 ha were used to pasture and production of supplemental forage, respectively. Sugarcane was the main supplemental forage. Most farmers (93.3%) informed they use sugarcane during a certain period of the year. Corn and sorghum silages represented the next most used forages. The concentrate supplementation did not follow a well-defined nutritional criterion. During the dry season the mean price of liter of milk received by farmers was superior to the price of kilogram of concentrate, but this was not the case for the rainy season. The results show there was a variation in the use of concentrate according to milk production and the season of the year (dry or rainy), with a major impact of the use of concentrate during the rainy season. The average costs of concentrate impacted the milk gross income to the farmers of Alvinópolis by 34.5%. O estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar a utilização da suplementação concentrada por produtores de leite de Alvinópolis. Utilizaram-se os dados de 30 produtores de um total de 256 associados à Cooperativa de Produtores Rurais de Alvinópolis. Os dados foram obtidos por intermédio de questionário e informações disponíveis no banco de dados da Cooperativa. A maioria dos rebanhos era formada por animais mestiços com composição racial Europeu x Zebu. A média dos rebanhos era de 39 vacas, com 71,8% em lactação e 28,2 % não lactantes. A média de produção era de 9,8 litros/dia para as vacas em lactação. Foi encontrada maior proporção de pastagens formadas nas propriedades avaliadas em relação à Zona da Mata MG, com revestimento aproximado de 50% para pastagens formadas e naturais. As gramíneas do gênero Brachiaria predominaram entre as gramíneas implantadas (47,7% das pastagens). As formadas por outras gramíneas perfizeram apenas 1,8% do total das pastagens. A área média das propriedades era de 47,6 ha, sendo 39,8 e 7,8 hectares de pastagens e volumosos para suplementação, respectivamente. A predominância entre os volumosos era de cana-de-açúcar, sendo que a maioria dos produtores (93,3%) informou que utilizavam cana com ureia durante algum período do ano. As silagens de milho e sorgo representavam a segunda opção do volumoso mais utilizado. As formas de utilização de concentrado não obedeceram a critérios nutricionais definidos. Durante o período da seca, observou-se que os preços médios recebidos pelo litro de leite foram superiores ao preço do quilograma de concentrado. Isto não se repetiu durante o período das águas. Pelos resultados apresentados, notou-se variação na utilização de concentrados de acordo com a produção e época do ano e o maior impacto nas despesas, com uso de concentrados, ocorreu no período das águas. Os custos médios dos concentrados impactaram a receita bruta aferida com o leite aos produtores de Alvinópolis em 34,5%.
